Preview: Manchester United vs Liverpool [Premier League Game Week 5]

0

manchester united vs liverpool premier league week 5 soccer 2015Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United will invite Liverpool for a crunch tie at Old Trafford on Saturday. Both the teams have a similar points tally in the league so far with two wins, one draw and one loss.

Last time these two sides met at Old Trafford, the Manchester giants beat their Merseyside rivals 3 – 0. Mata, Van Persie and Rooney were on target in the win in December 2014. Both the teams will have a point to prove this weekend and they’ll want to send a statement to the other contenders for the top four spot. Most importantly, both Brendan Rodgers and Van Gaal, would want to bounce back to winning ways after losing in Game Week 4. Liverpool were humbled down by Slaven Bilic’s West Ham at Anfield while United lost 2 – 1 to Garry Monk’s Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

David de Gea could be back into the starting line-up for Manchester United after his move to Real Madrid collapsed on the very last day. The Spaniard will reportedly sign a new contract with the Red Devils, despite his imminent move to Spain next year. According to many reliable sources, the contract talks have already started at the club.

This week De Gea was involved with Spain’s squad and he was involved in his first competitive match of the season against Macedonia.

“I felt good,” said De Gea after keeping the clean sheet against Macedonia.

He added: “I really wanted to play. Now I need to keep working and see if I have some good fortune at my club as well.”

“My future will be the same as now: remain calm, keep working and improving. In concrete terms, enjoy my football. I am happy.”

Wayne Rooney will return to the team with a bit more confidence. The Three Lions skipper became England’s all-time top goal scorer beating Sir Bobby Charlton’s record of 49 goals. Rooney hasn’t opened his Premier League tally till now and it can’t be a better time and opposition to kick start his season. The Englishman would also have a new center forward pairing from now on. Anthony Martial could make his debut for the 20-time English champions after completing a big money move from AS Monaco last week. The 19-year-old is being compared to the French legend Thierry Henry.

Brendan Rodgers will miss one of the best players in his squad. Phillipe Coutinho got his marching orders in the match against West Ham. The Brazilian midfielder looked sharper than ever in the opening four games and is definitely one of the biggest game changers at BR’s disposal. The Reds boss will be turning to Christian Benteke, who is more than capable of splitting United’s defense on his good day.

All in all it will be an interesting fight at the weekend. So Mark your calendars for September 12th as it will be a fiery clash like always. Manchester United seem to be the favorites to win this one.

Tablet Wars, the Enterprise Awakens

0

tablet wars enterprise 2015 techTablet technology has matured enough that businesses are starting to recognize their use. Microsoft already has a foot at the door with its Surface tablets especially the much-praised Surface Pro 3. Apple is now gearing up to launch a 12-inch iPad Pro in order to prove that the iPad has what it takes to be a serious business tool. Until the September reveal, the iPad Pro specs are mostly rumors and speculation. Will Apple’s tablet make the cut against the Surface Pro which was designed for the enterprise from the get-go?

Microsoft has been previously criticized for trying to bring Windows into the modern tablet race and not come up with a completely different OS like Apple with iOS and Google with Android. Microsoft did make a tablet OS in the form of Windows RT which unfortunately backfired on the company. Windows 8 didn’t do so well either until Microsoft followed up with a more acceptable Windows 8.1. But sticking with Windows is currently paying off for Microsoft when it comes to the enterprise. Windows Surface tablets and similar hybrids from Lenovo, Asus and Acer are doing well in businesses and many users stand by their purchases. Windows tablets are lighter and more portable than conventional laptops. They’re basically full-blown PCs within a tablet, able to do the same business work as their larger counterparts. They can run the most of the same apps ordinary PCs can. Android tablets and iPads, not so much.

Microsoft has been in the tablet business shall we say, before it was cool. Windows XP Tablet PC Edition ran on a myriad of convertibles in the early 2000s. But tablets back then were as heavy as their Sumerian/Eblaite mud counterparts with costs as high as the Tower of Babel. Tablet PCs were then left in limbo in the advent of slimmer and more powerful laptops, smartphones and netbooks. Then came the iPad. A ridiculously named device that took mobile computing by storm. Android tablets followed shortly. Blackberry tried to follow suit but failed. Despite being a pioneer in tablet computing, Microsoft missed the casual party and came in a colorful business attire. Years later, tablets flooded the market like Pong consoles and saturated the consumer market. The next logical step for everyone is the enterprise.

This time, the party seems to be over and its back to business and Microsoft is the one dressed for it. Right from the start, the Microsoft Surface line, including the Surface RT has trumpeted its ability to use Microsoft Office, the inclusion of a touch keyboard cover and a stylus. These devices, with keyboards attached were designed to function as mini-laptops, ready to create content as well as consume them. The Surface line has matured with the Surface Pro 3 and Surface 3 and come October, the Surface 4. Microsoft’s gamble with Windows 8.1 and now Windows 10 has paid off and through the Surface line, created the hybrid form factor now mimicked by major manufacturers like Lenovo, Asus and Acer. These Windows hybrids are more acceptable for business users than the iPad. Many business users praise the recent surface tablets and let go of their iPads altogether. With Windows 10, the atmosphere for Windows-based tablets have also improved.

Now back to the iPad Pro. Aside from a larger screen, Apple brings to the table a rumored USB type C slot, iOS 9’s split screen ability, a 64GB starting capacity and force touch. Hopefully, the USB slot will be used as an expansion option which is sorely lacking in previous models. A base 64 GB capacity should enable it to store and process plenty of content. The split-screen ability will allow the iPad to perform true multitasking where users can see two full iPad screens at the same time when the device is oriented horizontally. Force touch should allow the user to easily perform formerly awkward maneuvers such as right-click, cut, copy and paste. Office for iPad should enable users to work alongside their Windows-based counterparts.

Apple however has no rumors of a keyboard companion for the device remaining dependent on touch for content entry. It’s assumed that third parties would fill in the gap. But then, Steve Jobs might haunt Tim Cook and say, “the device won’t be pure” (or pure Apple). Microsoft doesn’t really include their touch keyboard covers by default by they presented it in a way that it should be one with the device, but cleverly sold separately. The Surface does feel naked without them. Microsoft says, “You go buy this puppy and the little chain for it too.”

Aside from MS Office and iWorks, the iPad offers little else for business use despite its hundreds of thousands of apps. Provided one takes his/her iPad Pro naked, creating content for it would take some getting used to. Before Microsoft offered MS Office for the iOS and Android platforms, office suites were a pain to use, even with wireless keyboards. In this case, the app problem tables are turned. Windows-based tablets (except for RT) has tons of existing Windows-based business software at their disposal. Security won’t be a nightmare as security policies can be applied to these devices. If users don’t like Office 365, they can always install older versions.

Apple is confident that a larger screen equates into enterprise use. But for a larger iPad to enter the enterprise, even Apple fans argue that Apple would be better off using OSX instead of iOS. One major drawback for iOS is its unstructured file system where special tools or the dreaded iTunes would be needed to access files and documents created from every app. Users would have to heavily rely on a wireless connection to share or even gain access to their office documents. With OSX, the iPad Pro would have all the benefits enjoyed by Macbooks including all the productivity apps available for the platform. Now those who know what they’re doing can make the iPad Pro work for them, but for ordinary users, an out of the box enterprise experience could turn ugly. If Apple insists on iOS for the iPad Pro, Microsoft wins the enterprise.

Top 8 Most Underrated Players In College Football 2015

most underrated college football players 2015 images ncaaTCU quarterback Trevone Boykin, Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott, and a host other players enter the 2015 college football season on everyone’s radar. There are a number of others though who will make a name for themselves this season far away from the headlines. These are college football’s unsung heroes, the most underrated players in the nation.

Keenan Reynolds, QB Navy

Reynolds will most likely become college football’s all-time career leader in rushing touchdowns. The senior QB will be a four-year starter running one of college football’s toughest offenses to defend, the triple option. After taking over as a freshman and going 6-2 that season, Reynolds has led Navy to 21 victories over three seasons. As a sophomore, Reynolds rushed for an NCAA record for rushing TDs by a quarterback with 31. He added 23 last year and is just 13 behind current leader Montee Ball. The 5-11, 195-pounder has led the Midshipmen to three consecutive bowl games and is poised to do it again in Navy’s first year in the American Athletic Conference.

Zach Terrell, QB Western Michigan

The Western Michigan football program was in disarray until a young, energetic head coach named P.J. Fleck took over. Fleck led one of the biggest turnarounds in college football as the Broncos went 8-5 last year and a big reason was the play of their junior quarterback. Terrell, 6-1 and 205 pounds, was sixth in the nation in passer rating (164.4) in 2014 while throwing for 3,443 yards and 26 touchdowns. Terrell completed 68 percent of his passes and was helped by a solid running game that featured freshman running back Jarvion Franklin who rushed for 1,551 yards. Terrell should flourish once again in the Broncos offense.

Tyler Matakevich, LB Temple

It is hard to believe, but Temple had one of the best defenses in the nation yielding just 17.5 points per game to finish fourth in the country in scoring defense. One of the big keys was the play of linebacker Matakevich, who had his third straight season of 100-plus tackles. The senior has 355 career tackles and has also recorded double-digit tackles for loss in consecutive seasons. He is a ball-hawking run stuffer who sometimes gets lost in the shuffle because he is not a big pass-rush specialist nor does he make many big plays in the secondary.

Paul Perkins, RB UCLA

How often does a running back lead his conference in rushing while playing for a team that is ranked in the Top 10 and not make his All-Conference team? Welcome to Paul Perkins, the 5-11, 198-pound junior, who led the Pac-12 with 1,575 rushing yards, the second-highest total in UCLA history. Perkins was often overlooked by NFL-caliber quarterback Brett Hundley and two-way star Myles Jack. While Jack is still around, Hundley is gone and true freshman Josh Rosen takes over at QB. Perkins will help take some of the pressure off of the freshman with his running abilities.

Brandon Allen, QB Arkansas

Face it. Arkansas football under head coach Bret Bielema is based on a strong defense and a power running game. The quarterback will not routinely be asked to throw for 300 yards in a game. Allen can do so, if asked. Last year, the 6-3, 210-pound senior threw for 2,285 yards and 20 touchdowns. He threw just five interceptions in his 339 attempts. Allen does exactly what he is told, does not make mistakes, and makes throws when asked. He is a big reason why the Razorbacks are expected to surpass last year’s win total of seven.

Tajae Sharpe, WR UMass

One of the most unheralded receivers in the nation, Sharpe was an All-MAC selection last season after catching 85 passes for 1,281 yards and seven touchdowns. He should benefit from having senior QB Blake Frohnapfel healthy in 2015. Sharpe is a lanky (6-4, 200) receiver with great hands and good ball skills. He is on the Biletnikoff Award watch list and is creating some NFL Draft buzz as well.

Drew Hare, QB Northern Illinois

The Huskies have produced some of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the history of college football and this season is no different. In his first full season as the starter, Hare ran the Northern Illinois offense to near perfection leading the Huskies to an 11-3 record. Hare threw for 2,322 yards and 18 touchdowns while throwing just two interceptions. He added another 900 yards on the ground and eight more scores. He will likely do the same in 2015 bringing back images of Chandler Harnish and Jordan Lynch.

The Wisconsin Offensive Line

Year in and year out, the Badgers are one of the top rushing teams in the nation and they do not run the triple option. Teams like Navy and Georgia Tech typically lead the nation in rushing because the triple option is a big part of what they do. Wisconsin lines up in power formations, using a fullback and multiple tight ends to play smashmouth football. Last season, the Badgers averaged 320 rushing yards per game to finish third in the country. While Wisconsin returns just two starters to the offensive line, the three new members – freshman Michael Delter, sophomore Hayden Biegel, and senior Ray Ball – will most likely keep the Badgers in the top 10 in rushing during the 2015 season. Corey Clement takes over for Melvin Gordon at running back and will likely run for well over 1,000 yards…all because of his offensive line.

Real Madrid: Cristiano Ronaldo will cost PSG €1 billion

0

cristiano ronaldo cost psg real madrid soccer 2015 imagesThe Portuguese star player Cristiano Ronaldo has been the best player at the club since the day he set his foot in Madrid. Real Madrid understands the value of their priced asset who is being lured by the French giants Paris Saint Germain.

Florentino Perez, the Real Madrid President, cleared the intentions of the club regarding the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo. According to him, Ronaldo will only be released if any team pays his massive release clause.

“He [Ronaldo] is under contract and we want him to stay on in the future,” the Blancos supremo told Cadena COPE.. “But nothing in life is guaranteed. Right now, a Real Madrid without Cristiano Ronaldo is unthinkable. He’s the best and most-emblematic player in the world.

“If they [PSG] want him, they face an uphill struggle. They’ll have to meet his one billion Euro release clause to sign him.”

When asked who Ronaldo’s opponents for the Ballon d’Or might be, Perez went for Real Madrid’s creme de la creme: “Right now I can see Cristiano Ronaldo competing for the trophy again, followed by Bale, Benzema and James. I admire them all.”

Although Perez didn’t close the doors on any offers arriving after next year’s transfer window. He claimed that they won’t sell the former Manchester United man in 2016 and his contract is set to expire in 2018.

“No-one is a prophet in football but we don’t want to sell him in 2016. There are still three years left on his contract.”

According to many rumors, Ronaldo wants to finish his career in the United States. The Major League Soccer is believed to be the final destination after his long and illustrious career.

Florentino also shed some light on the biggest transfer saga of this transfer window. He revealed that the club won’t be bidding for Manchester United’s David de Gea in the January transfer window.

“We will certainly not sign De Gea in January,”

When asked why Real Madrid were willing to pay such high fee for the Spanish keeper if they could get him for free next summer, he replied, “They don’t become free. The great players are never free. The ones that arrive for free and that are available are mediocre players.”

Perez also stated that the ten-time European champions aren’t concentrating on De Gea’s situation anymore.

“Right now, we don’t contemplate this,” he said. “We have three magnificent goalkeepers.”

Manchester United are set to offer De Gea a new contract which could make him the highest paid goal keeper in the world. It is believed that Jorge Mendez, De Gea and the club are currently working on a deal which could extend his stay in England by five more years. A buyout clause will also be introduced in his contract, which will help United take away the best value for their star player.

Perez suggested that De Gea would agree an extension, saying: “It’s difficult that a player will remain a year without playing. De Gea has to do what is best for his career.

“I have not spoken to him, not now and not on the 31st [transfer deadline day]. [Real general director] Jose Angel Sanchez did.”

BIG BROTHER 1735: Vanessa Keeping the Power

big brother 1734 vanessa in charge recap 2015It was a calmer night on this episode of “Big Brother,” Vanessa said she adores the twins but its better for her if at least one of them is gone. Liz said if she leaves the game she is leaving with integrity. Vanessa said John seemed to think it would be better if Julia went home than Liz. Julia said if Liz stays in the house she has a better chance of winning than Julia does. Austin said he wanted to keep Liz because he knows that’s what she and Julia want. Vanessa said it seemed scary to leave Liz in the game.

At the jury house Meg showed up. She said she was surprised she got evicted because she wasn’t a threat in competitions. James then surprised the girls in the house. James said he’d be happy to keep aggravating Meg in the jury house. Shelli said she was still rooting for John and Steve but that Vanessa deserved to make it to the final two.

Liz said she was shocked she and Julia made it this far and that they have learned a lot about each other in this game. She also said no man or any amount of money would become between her and her sister. She said whoever stays is fighting for both of them. Julia said she and Liz have always done everything together. She said she was proud of the way Liz has been playing the game.

big brother 1734 julia evicted liz stays 2015 imagesAustin, Vanessa and John voted to evict Julia. Julia told Julie Chen Liz has been playing an incredible game and that she deserves to stay in it. She said Liz is a fierce competitor and she has Austin on her side. Julia said Austin is a great guy and she loves him and supports his relationship with Liz. Julia said Austin and Liz could make a relationship work and that they may end up married eventually.

This week’s head of household competition is called Under the Rainbow. They had to move eggs through a course, over the rainbow and into a pot. The luxury holder rewards the one who wins it with getting to temporarily leave the Big Brother house. Naturally, we have to wait until Sunday to find out who wins the HOH, but Austin was in the lead when it left off.

SPOILER ALERT: HOH FINAL WINNER

This could be another interesting week as poker player Vanessa won the HOH leaving her with some big decisions. Will she be smart and cut up Austin and Liz or give up her chance of the big money going with John or Steve? Her choice will be extremely important as she won’t be able to play in the final HOH leaving her only with the PoV to save herself if needed. If she makes it to the final two, she’s easily got the win as everyone in the jury house really respects her game.

Kevin De Bruyne can reach Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo level says former coach

0

kevin de bruyne reach messi cristiano ronaldo levels soccer 2015 imagesKevin de Bruyne recently completed his big money move to the Premier League giants Manchester City. The Belgian midfielder was Bundesliga Player of the Year last season as he led Wolfsburg to a second place finish behind the champions Bayern Munich.

The former Belgian coach, Georges Leekens gave De Bruyne his first international cap five years ago. Leekens also worked with the 24-year-old in the youth development at RAA Gent. Leekens discusses his protégé’s talent and also concludes that he can also reach Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi’ level one day.

“I think he can go to the highest level.” Leekens said.  “I mean on the Messi, Ronaldo and Hazard level. He has already shown what he can do.

“He will grow. Wolfsburg are a good club but Manchester City is bigger and now it’s the big jump. He’s at the age now where he can start a big career at club and international level.”

“Sometimes you can think you take one step back, but I don’t think it was a step back for him,” he continued.

Leekens believes that De Bruyne’s spell at Wolfsburg was god experience for him and his decision to leave Chelsea was the right one.

“It was good to experience another kind of football in Germany and now he will prove he can play in England at the highest level. He went to Wolfsburg after Chelsea to prove himself and he will fight to be successful [at City], of that I’m sure. He’s that kind of player.

Jose Mourinho sold De Bruyne to the Bundesliga outfit but the Portuguese couldn’t have seen this coming. The Manchester City player will now line-up alongside Aguero and Silva whenever they face the West Londoners in the league next. The former Chelsea player will have a point to prove to his former boss.

“Financially Chelsea did a very good job, but maybe Kevin was not ready at the time or they had players in that position.

Leekens remarked on De Bruyne’s shortcomings too. According to the Belgian coach, his protégé lacks patience, which eventually led to his move out of Chelsea.

“I know Kevin, he’s not patient. He will not wait until he gets a chance. He likes to get that chance today, he doesn’t wait until tomorrow and that’s Kevin’s character.

“I remember him at RAA Gent and he was like this, he knows what he wants and he likes to play. He was 14 at Gent but then he went to Genk. We knew that we had a big player but we didn’t have the money to hold on to him.

“At that moment he was good but, following his moves, I think he’s excellent and now he will show he’s world class in England. He likes to play, he never thinks about money. He always thinks about playing and that’s one of his biggest qualities.

“I hope that he adapts as soon as possible with Manchester City because they’re doing well and they’ll get some more quality. That I’m sure.”

“Whether it’s £40 million or £70 million, it’s a lot but the players don’t have to think about this. It’s the outside world, it’s the price depending on the market. He’s not a player who will make problems in the headlines about this price.

“I think his adaptation to Manchester City will be very easy because Vincent Kompany is there.

“He is skillful, has a good mentality and is very intelligent – he reads the game very well. You need intelligence to be at the highest level.

“He’s a player who can play a few positions. He can play on the outside, inside, the No.10 role and he can go from box-to-box and is very decisive.

“He’s very independent too, very sure of himself but he will stay the same normal guy. He’s very aware about his qualities and he knows he has to work hard, and he does.”

SENSE8 112 Finale Recap: I Can’t Leave Her Until Season 2

sense8 112 recap images cant leave her 2015 imagesThe first season of Sense8 was mainly filled with the more individual stories of the eight strangers. The show is marketed to be surrounding the connection that intertwines these characters together, however most of the show seemed like a sequence of slow-paced dramas that were tossed together.

Unlike most sci-fi shows Sense8 decided to ignore the details behind the connection and just allow the viewer to make assumptions and try and develop their own story to why these characters are able to travel across the world to both “visit” one another and to “share” their ideas, emotions, and experiences.

The twelfth and final episode “I Can’t Leave Her” decides to takes its last chance to try and throw the characters together. The episode is centered on the seven other sensates banding together to try and save their fellow “cluster”-mate Riley, who was captured by the BPO while in the Icelandic hospital.

The sensates now realize that if the BPO and head agent Whispers are able to perform the lobotomizing procedure on Riley, they will all be at risk. As we see the BPO transport Riley to their own research facility, we realize the sensates don’t have much time in order to save themselves.

Before diving into this storyline, the episode concludes Wolfgang’s storyline. In the previous episode, we see Wolfgang entering his uncle’s house where he wants to settle the score (as his Uncle was very abusive towards Wolfgang).

Just as Wolfgang walks into his uncle’s luxurious home, his uncle’s security frisks him and realizes he has a gun with him. Quickly, Wolfgang gets hold of his gun and shoots everyone in the room. Wolfgang is then “visited” by Will, who “shares” the sound of the bullets, and decides he wants to step in.

Will notices that the bodyguard’s gun is missing. It is then revealed that Wolfgang’s uncle, Sergei, is not dead and has the gun. Sergei begins shooting, as Wolfgang replaces Will in his perspective and escapes into the kitchen.

Wolfgang then gets another “visit,” this time from Kala, who uses the tools in the kitchen to make a makeshift bomb. Wolfgang is intrigued by her brilliance and kisses her as he lights the fuse and throws it through the door, killing the remainder of Sergei’s bodyguards.

In one of the goriest scenes of the show (rivaling Silas cutting his former employees hands off in front of Corpheus), Wolfgang shoots Sergei several times in the face. Kala watches and is noticeably distraught from the violence of Wolfgang’s actions. The shoot-out ends with Wolfgang telling Kala “that’s why you should marry Ragan,” as he realizes that even though there is a connection between them, they are from very different worlds.

Now, back to Riley’s storyline, which is the one that truly connects all the sensates. With everybody’s help, Will takes the lead in the rescue efforts. Firstly, Will distracts the guards at the BPO facility by pulling the oil line on his car. He then uses Nomi and Amanita’s hacking abilities to forge an ID badge to get into the facility.

Once Will is in, he is unsure where to locate Riley, which is when Lito puts his abilities to work. Lito, using his acting skills, puts on a doctor’s jacket, flirts with one of the nurses, and successfully obtains Riley’s room number.

However, now that he is able to locate Riley’s room, he realizes that there is no way he can get past the four guards blocking the way in. This is where, once again, Sun puts her fighting skills on display and is quick to get rid of the four guards.

After getting in, Will is unable to carry Riley out and therefore must wake her. This is when Kala “visits” with her pharmaceutical knowledge. She is able to safely shock Riley’s system back to life.

Just as Will gets out to a waiting ambulance, he makes eye contact with Whispers, which Jonas explained before means that Whispers can now hear and see everything Will sees.

Next up is Corpheus, who “visits” Will and Riley just as they realize their escape ambulance didn’t have any keys. Corpheus’ experience with his bus service enables him to figure out how to jump the ambulance.

sense8 112 finale 2015With help of Wolfgang, Will and Riley make their way up in the mountains. However, this leads both to become overwhelmed by Riley’s recollection of the loss of her family. However, Whispers is closing in on them and Jonas “visits” and tells them there best bet is to kill themselves to protect the rest of the cluster.

Will refuses Jonas’ suggestion and comes up with a plan to knock himself unconscious, closing the connection with Whispers.

Will wakes up momentarily with Riley holding him, surrounded by the other sensates, and expresses his appreciation for all the help from everyone.

sense8 season 2 ending 2015Although the final episode did center on all of the characters coming together, it felt superficial, as I had predicted. Yes, they throw in the unique skills of each character, but it feels rushed and overly jam-packed.

There are options for a second season, as Whispers is still out there and Jonas is still in prison. However, with the slow-pace of the first season, I don’t think they have captured enough of an audience at this point to justify a second installment, but of course, I’ve been proven wrong as season 2 is all set to hit Netflix next June.

My 2015 Fantasy Football Blueprint. Watch Me Turn $100 into $0

fantasy football blueprint 2015The 2015 fantasy football season is staring me right in the face. I’m just a few hours away from the beginning of my journey toward fantasy infamy this year. I won’t be alone. Millions of other idiots looking to cash in on daily fantasy football will join me.

Hopefully I can find the right leagues to make my experience much better. That entails finding players that have lower fantasy IQs than me. Those leagues proved elusive last year as I struggled during my rookie season on FanDuel and DraftKings.

I usually do pretty good in season long leagues….if I don’t lose focus and forget to set lineups, miss injury reports, or just take wild swings on inconsistent players when desperation sets in.

Daily fantasy football is a whole new ball game. I found that out the hard way last season. I actually did better with NBA action than I did with the NFL. That’s pretty sad considering how much time I spend on NFL news.

But successful fantasy campaigns are more about individual player number crunching than knowing which team to bet on. So this season I plan to dig deeper into the stats instead of trusting my gut. Whether that works better remains to be seen.

Last year I even paid for a monthly subscription to use fantasy experts’ advice so I could maybe do better. That helped with NBA games, but not to the point where I was profitable. So this year, no subscription service. I’m going at it alone, except for all the free articles and tips I can fit in my schedule.

What I’m going to do is show you all how to turn $100 into $0. That may sound negative. Well that’s because it is negative. I’m going to lose my $100 deposit. The good news is that you all can benefit from my fantasy ignorance. There are plenty of websites that will tell you the right moves to make. Those are a dime a dozen and some $24.99 a month!

My fantasy football blueprint is going to be free to use. Just make sure and do the opposite of what I do. That’s your best bet. Even if I win a few contests in a row I wouldn’t suggest doing what I do. Even a dumbass can win a 50/50 league on occasion.

Now, if I happen to get lucky and win a huge guaranteed pot in the $100,000 range, I guess you should have followed my lead on that weekend. Don’t copy me after that though, because I assure you, my fantasy luck will have run out at that point.

You’re probably thinking, “Damn he can’t even win 50/50 leagues consistently enough to come out ahead?” No, I can’t actually. If I thought I could then I wouldn’t be doing this ten week tutorial on how to lose $100 on DraftKings.

Yes, I’m going with DraftKings over FanDuel. The user interface is much better on DK. I’d like to try Yahoo’s new daily fantasy football out too, but my gambling funds are a bit limited. If you folks want to pool your cash together and send me $99, I’ll put in another dollar and do the same tutorial for Yahoo Daily Fantasy.

Watching me flounder on two different platforms on a weekly basis may be worth it to some of you who enjoy watching others suffer.

Even though I’m expecting to piss away $100 over the next ten weeks I think I will make that money back in my season long league. There is enough money on that pot to more than make up for losses on DraftKings.

And yes, I’m confident in winning that season long league. Judging by the chat room during the draft last night, I’d say 50% of the guys were drunk at the start, 10% were drunk by the end, and 20% couldn’t log in properly while sober! I like my chances against this crew.

I’m just kidding (sorta), in case any of the fellas from that league happen upon this post.

I’m not set on how I will waste my money each week. I want to leave some flexibility there. It may be more fun for you all to watch me crash and burn in each and every type of contest. I plan on playing $10 per week for ten weeks. If I get lucky and still have funds at the end of week 10, then that means there is a glitch over at DraftKings.

Glitch or not, I will keep going until I have exhausted the original $100 set aside for this bizarro fantasy football tutorial.

Now, if I happen to do something really dumb like bet more than $10 on a given week, I will stop the tutorial early if I hit $0 before week 10. That scenario is much more likely than the extended scenario I mentioned previously.

OK, enough talk. I’m going to walk the walk. Below are my fantasy picks for week one. Pay close attention and try to do the exact opposite of what I do. You should find great success with that system.

I’m gonna flip $100 into $0 and you’re gonna reap the rewards. If you have any helpful fantasy football tips, please leave them in the comment section. I won’t be needing them. I know exactly what I’m doing, but others will appreciate your help.

Next week I’ll post the breakdown of my results.

One Italian website could be hosted in Texas or some US drug lord’s email account could be stored as far off as Ireland. Recently, many large websites branch out to countries that they serve and are also hosted there. The content also changes accordingly. The same isn’t true for old data and smaller and recent websites. For example, I have two Yahoo email accounts about five years apart. The older one defaults back to the US Yahoo homepage after logging out while the one I set up in Singapore puts me back to the Singapore homepage. Cloud storage and infrastructure could be either way. To cut costs, companies like Microsoft or Amazon could set up their infrastructure in other countries. This now opens up the question: could data be extradited by a country for investigative purposes if it’s stored in another country? Does data stored in another country share the same privacy as Swiss bank accounts? Does data have a nationality? This is now a problem being faced by Microsoft as the US Justice Department seeks to open an email account stored in a data center in Ireland.

This case has some similarities to problems involving The Piratebay and other torrent sites. US Copyright owners could not prosecute them directly for copyright infringement when their sites are hosted in another country wherein they would have to coordinate with that country and its copyright laws. This buys torrent sites the time to continue their operations until their host country becomes aware of their existence and the time for them comes to move on. In the case of Microsoft and the “Irish” Hotmail account in question, the case opens up issues on privacy and sovereignty.

“The power to embark on unilateral law enforcement incursions into a foreign sovereign country – directly or indirectly – has profound foreign policy consequences. Worse still, it threatens the privacy of US citizens.”

–Microsoft

“Microsoft has contested the decision on the grounds that the records are stored in a data centre in foreign country, not owned by Microsoft but rather by the email user, and that the order entails a conflict of laws and the impermissible exercise of extraterritorial authority.”

–Center for European Policy Studies

Microsoft is not defending the suspected felon that owns the account but its customers as a whole and that the data is protected by the host country’s laws. The government seeks to get the data from the company itself, Microsoft since the account is Hotmail instead of coordinating with the host country’s law department since it’s a much easier channel. Otherwise, it will be the same as going after The Piratebay. In the government’s point of view, it’s simple for Microsoft, an American corporation, whose headquarters lie in Washington State, to just grab the data from any of its foreign servers.

“We have formal mechanisms for this. They are cumbersome, and we fully support expediting them and appropriating more money to make that thing work, but at the end of the day it’s like saying: ‘Gee, we shouldn’t have to get a search warrant because it’s a pain in the ass.’”

–Lee Tien, senior staff attorney, Electronic Frontier Foundation

Microsoft even made some unlikely allies in this case such as Apple, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Verizon, Fox News, eBay, the Guardian and the Irish government (which is very touchy with their sovereignty). Should the government win, data privacy through cloud computing could be in jeopardy. In a customer’s point of view, they would rather invest in their own infrastructure rather than allow any host country to rummage through their sensitive data on demand. If the US can do it, so can countries like China.

“…It will force companies to look for more ways to encrypt data and not retain the keys. Partner with non-US companies so that non-US companies have the servers. None of which will be helpful to the US,”

–Brad Smith, Microsoft lawyer

The whole thing would be also bad for the US, should the courts win. Not only on a privacy standpoint but in business as well. If the scenario Mr. Smith described happens, it will be much tougher for the US to get the data it needs in case it does manage to pass a proper law that can subpoena data. While Microsoft has much to lose since it recently invested a lot of time and money in its own cloud business, it does recognize the importance of privacy and international sovereignty. Cloud computing is an increasingly competitive business that will get flushed down the drain when confidence in it drops; because its hosts can’t be trusted to keep its data discreet.

Fantasy Football Sit ‘Em Start ‘Em Week 1: Chris Ivory & Steve Smith Sr.

steve smith sr sit em start em fantasy football 2015Football is finally back, and I’m borderline crying from excitement, so I decided to start the season on a positive note. Instead of ragging on Sammy Watkins or Alfred Morris and why you shouldn’t start them, I’m going to hit on a few guys you need out on that fantasy field come Sunday.

Start—Chris Ivory, New York Jets: Okay, sure, drafting anyone on the Jets probably wasn’t your smartest move, but things can’t be terrible forever! Ivory led the Jets last season with 821 yards and six touchdowns. On top of that, Chris Johnson is gone, leaving Ivory as the go-to guy in the Jets’ offense (or lack thereof).

With Ryan Fitzpatrick starting for the broken-jawed Geno Smith, there should be a good amount of rushing early in the season. Oh, and they play the Cleveland Browns this week, who finished dead last in rushing yards allowed in 2014.

Ivory is a solid start, especially over someone like Alfred Morris who will be trying to break through the new-and-improved Miami Dolphins defense.

Start—Steve Smith Sr., Baltimore Ravens: Smith may be getting older, but he’s not letting it slow him down. I was a big proponent of Smith last year (especially in his matchup with the Carolina Panthers), and he finished out the season with over 1,000 yards and 79 catches to lead the time. That’s right, he beat out Torrey Smith. With the younger Smith out of town, Smith Sr. is once again Joe Flacco’s top option.

The Denver Broncos defense is supposed to be better this season, but with T.J. Ward suspended for the first game, they’ll have a hard time trying to stop Smith down the stretch. Who’s going to guard him? Aqib Talib? He doesn’t really guard anyone anyways.

For Smith, 36 is the new 24.

2015 US Open Semi-finals: Djokovic vs Cilic & Federer vs Wawrinka for Grand Slam finish

us open djokovic vs cilic federer 2015 tennis imagesThe quarterfinal round at the 2015 US Open is complete and this year the semifinalists will be made up entirely of former Grand Slam champions. Novak Djokovic, Marin Cilic, Roger Federer, and Stan Wawrinka have compiled 29 singles Grand Slam titles between them and each booked their spots in the final four at Flushing Meadows with two blockbuster semifinals to come on Friday. Perhaps not surprisingly, this year’s semifinalists are nearly identical to the semifinalists from a season ago – save Wawrinka who replaces Kei Nishikori. Here’s a recap of how the four quarterfinals went as well as quick preview of the upcoming semifinal match-ups.

On Tuesday night, Djokovic faced what can only be called a mild challenge in his quarterfinal match-up. The 2011 champion had drawn Feliciano Lopez, a player who was enjoying his career best US Open.

But Djokovic stopped the Spaniard from advancing further with a four-set victory. The line score in the match ended at 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(2). As a result of that match and the other men’s match played on Tuesday the World No. 1 will next face the US Open’s defending champion.

Marin Cilic, having won his maiden Slam twelve months ago in New York, won the third Grand Slam quarterfinal of his career on Tuesday, defeating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in a what was a match that featured many momentum swings. After both of the opening sets went Cilic’s way, Tsonga swung himself back into the match – saving multiple match points en route. However the Frenchman was not able to complete the comeback and the Croat will now look to advance to the US Open final for the second straight year.

On the bottom half of the draw the quarterfinal matches on Wednesday were very non-competitive. Wawrinka dismissed a tired Kevin Anderson routinely, defeating the South African in three sets without the need for a tiebreaker. The line score in that match ended with the Swiss No. 2 taking away eighteen games to Anderson’s eight, 6-4, 6-4, 6-0.

roger federer vs stan wawrinka us open semi finals 2015Arguably Anderson entered the quarterfinal on much better form than Wawrinka. Not only did the service giant defeat Andy Murray in the fourth round but the South African had numerous match-wins in the last couple of weeks additional to that victory. For example, Anderson won five matches en route to a title in Winston-Salem in the week immediately prior to the 2015 US Open. Wawrinka, inconsistent at times at Flushing Meadows this season, appeared ripe for the pickings.

However perhaps the quarterfinal result shows that it’s a bad idea to contest an event in the week immediately prior to a major: Anderson appears to have simply ran out of gas.

Wawrinka, despite advancing, now only appears ripe for the pickings for Federer. The Swiss Maestro had drawn a talented opponent in the quarters in Richard Gasquet. However Federer ripped through the Frenchman in what has to be called a very poor showing for Gasquet. The line score in the easy victory for Fed ended at 6-3, 6-3, 6-1.

The semifinals appear very likely to produce a Djokovic vs. Federer final. After all, the Serb is undefeated against Cilic in thirteen matches, one of the more lopsided head-to-head series among active players. While Federer has a trio of losses to Wawrinka overall the Swiss No. 1 is 16-3 against the Swiss No. 2. Furthermore, Federer’s form in both New York and Cincinnati has been so impressive that perhaps he should be regarded as the true tournament favorite, especially with Murray losing in the middle round.

The semifinals for the men’s tournament go on Friday. Of the two favorites, arguably it is Djokovic that is more at risk than Federer. If the latter can rattle off two more victories in Flushing Meadows he will become not only the eldest player to ever win the US Open but the most senior to have ever won any major.
