DeAndre Hopkins Channels His Inner Jerry Rice for Record-Setting Pace

0

deandre hopkins channels hiss inner jerry rice 2015 nfl imagesWho are the best wide receivers in the NFL right now? The first names that come to mind for most of you are probably Julio Jones, Odell Beckham Jr, Antonio Brown, Dez Bryant, maybe still Calvin Johnson.

Here’s a fun fact: while these five guys are all household names, they’re all playing second fiddle to DeAndre Hopkins right now.

But that’s the intriguing part of Hopkins and the season he’s had so far. He’s never been a superstar. Sammy Watkins was always the go-to guy when they were teammates at Clemson. Hopkins was a late first round draft pick back in 2013, and after being drafted by the Houston Texans he continued to be No. 2, now behind Andre Johnson.

Well, Johnson is gone, and now Hopkins is to the Texans offense what J.J. Watt is to their defense—a seemingly unstoppable force.

Hopkins is sitting on 52 receptions, 726 receiving yards, and five touchdowns over the course of the first six games of this season. That’s more than most starting receivers in this league will finish the season with. That’s also just the right pace for Hopkins to have the greatest season a wide receiver has ever had in the NFL.

Right now, Hopkins is set to finish with 138 catches for over 1,900 yards and about 13 touchdowns.

Only Hall of Famer Jerry Rice is even close to these numbers. Rice finished the 1995 campaign with 122 receptions, 1,848 yards, and 15 touchdowns, and there’s no one even close behind him. Of course, Calvin Johnson had that fantastic 2012 with 122 catches for a single-season record 1,964 yards through the air, but only five out of those 122 times did he find the end zone.

So what’s his secret? It can’t be easy to succeed on a team whose quarterback is whoever head coach Bill O’Brien deems the lesser of two evils that week between Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett.

To answer the question, it’s a lot of hard work. I mean A LOT of hard work. Hopkins knows the ins-and-outs of five different positions in the Texans offensive scheme. Basically, the only position he would struggle at is center or maybe left tackle, but he would probably find some way to make that look easy too.

“To be able to line up at F, line up at Y, line up at Z, line up at X, that’s four positions to know,” said O’Brien. “Sometimes we put him in the backfield. To be able to know four or five positions, it’s very difficult. It’s not easy to do that, and it takes a lot of hard work, studying on your own and things like that. I think if we called any play in our offense right now, he would be able to tell what every receiving position has to do on that play. That’s a testament to him and the time he’s put in to learn our offense.”

It’s definitely hard to ignore the fact that Hopkins lines up all over the field on any given play. It’s a lot to learn, of course, but that results have been apparent.

“I put the hard work in the offseason,” said Hopkins. “So I expected to be where I am. Not a lot of people expected me to be in this position. I don’t blame them. All the work I put in the offseason.”

Are you starting to see a reoccurring theme here? Hopkins works. Hard. And a lot. And that’s why he’s easily one of the top five receivers in the game right now. Hell, if you factor in quarterback(s), you could make an argument that he’s top three.

Hopkins has never made a Pro Bowl, never was a first-team All-American, he wasn’t even on the NFL’s Top 100 Players List for 2015.

DeAndre Hopkins isn’t a household name. Yet.

‘Goosebumps’ Movie Review 2015

If you were a kid of the nineties, you grew up reading Goosebumps books. If were are a kid of the nineties, you have got to see the Goosebumps movie. It is nostalgic, and it is relatable and just an all around fun film.

Before I got on, let me tell you that there are some spoilers in this review but not any major ones, so keep reading.

Goosebumps is clever, fun and frightening which his exactly what the series is. Believe me when I say you will not be disappointed.

The way that they tell the story is excellent. Jack Black stars at R.L Stine (1st spoiler) and his portrayal is enjoyably unique. I mean actually using Stine as a character (he also make a cameo), whose storyline propels the plot of the movie forward is a great idea and it works very well. In that, Stine is set up as a man who learned to escapes the dullness and loneliness of his life by writing these stories on a special typewriter, and because he does so, they come to life when the original manuscript is opened. And as you have probably already figured, that’s exactly what happens.

It is so cool to see all of his stories come to life on the big screen. From the Abominable Snowman of Pasadena to the movies real antagonist Slappy from Night of the Living Dummy, it is a thrill to watch.

And therein lies Goosebumps draw. For those who were avid followers of the book series, you get to relive what you have read and imagined in your mind a million times over. For those who know the name but have never read any of the books, you are entertained by the fact that you can maybe connect some of the stories your friend or siblings told you about to what you see on the screen. And if you have never read any of the books, it is a brand new experience that you can enjoy for the first time. For these reasons and so many more, Goosebumps is a must-see movie.

Along with R.L Stine’s character, the movie tells the story of Zach (Dylan Minnette from Scandal), a New York native who moves to Madison, Delaware thanks to his mother’s new job as vice principal of the local high school. Their new home in next door to a mysterious house with a girl that captivates Zach’s attention. Hannah, played by Odeya Rush, is a dark-haired beauty who spends her days being homeschooled by her father- R.L. Stine.

Due to Zach being a loner not really wanting to be in his new town, he finds adventure with a fellow classmate Champ (played by Ryan Lee) on the night of the school dance. He’s at home because he didn’t want to go and bored with his Aunt. So he occupies himself with the task of finding out what is going on at Hannah’s house as he heard screams. And that’s when the adventure starts.

Along with the twists and turns, I am very impressed with the amount of truly terrifying moments the movie possesses. Aside from being chased by a huge praying mantis or nearly being killed by a super scary snowman, the part of the movie that sends chills down your spine has to be, for me, the walk through the cemetery. Yes, there is a dark, scary, creepy cemetery scene that has all the thrills and screams you would imagine.

The ending is satisfying as well and serves as the most obvious solution to a situation as big as the one the kids and Stine got themselves into. This movie is just as much for adults (especially since most grown folks today were children when the first book was published in 1992) as it is for kids. Regardless your age, you will get a kick out of Goosebumps and all that it has to offer.

There isn’t anything bad I can say about this movie. It is a great narrative about a beloved young adult series that is the cornerstone of so many lives. I give it four out of five stars.

‘Modern Family’ 705 The Verdict Recap

modern family 705 verdict recap 2015 imagesThe latest antics of the “Modern Family” crew is filled with firsts, trust and showing people’s who’s the boss.

Gloria is excited about the possibility of serving as a juror. Jay tells her that jury duty is not a gift, but she sees it as her American right. Jay then has to take her place at Joe’s school, a task he really doesn’t want to do.

She goes to the jury selection but does not make it because she is too outspoken and thinks she can read the accused better than the judge. This crushes her because she really wanted to exercise her rights as an American citizen.

At the Dunphy’s house, Claire is excited that she gets to be the boss at the office since her dad is doing dad stuff. It is also “bring your daughter to work day” but Haley nor Alex is willing to go.

They end up having to go anyway because Claire is determined to show her daughters that she can be the boss. But we find out very quickly that things aren’t what they seem. Namely, the employees don’t really care too much for Claire, especially when she acts like the boss.

Cam and Mitch run into one of their friend’s Raymond, who recently broke up with his boyfriend. He catches them shopping for a party, and they deny it, not wanting to invite him. As they are out of the woodwork because Raymond walks away, Mitch tells him to come, and Cam looks at him in silent disapproval.

Phil leads Luke and some other neighborhood boys in a volunteer project that turns into numerous opportunities for “lessons of the day.” In particular, a man sees Phil while they are cleaning up who approaches him. He doesn’t give his name, nor does he address Phil by his. In fact, everything this guy does is suspicious because he tells Mr. Dunphy that he lost his wallet and phone and asked to borrow money. Phil happily gives him $50 and sees it a lesson to the boys about helping others. Luke sees the man never mentioning anyone Phil knows by name as a scam.

Jay spends the day at Joe’s “school” and brings an assistant. Joe’s teacher tells Jay that’s not how it works and tells the lady to leave, which means Jay is on his own.  He eventually warms up to the idea of being there and interacting with the kids and even reads them a book. Then one of the children tells him he’s old, so Jay calls him big ears.

Back at their house, Cam presses Mitch to disinvite Raymond. Since Gloria was cut from being a juror she plays the part of a lawyer to help them get to the bottom of the Cam’s issue. Mitch confesses, thanks to Gloria, he is afraid Cam will be like Raymond (the one all the friends don’t want to be around) if they were ever to break up.  Way to have faith in your relationship Mitch.

At the park, the guys continue to clean when they see the same man talking to another man using the same “Hey Mr” intro. This causes Phil to think Luke is right, so they dump all the trash they collected in the man’s convertible car. He comes up to them livid at what they are doing. Phil tells him it serves him right since he is scamming people. They find out that he is actually Dr. Monty, the pedestrian who delivered Luke 15 years ago and thus was not scamming them. Phil is devastated… and embarrassed.

At the office, Claire is really going through. From hitting her eye, nearly breaking her finger, picking the wrong cake for Herm’s retirement party (a mint chocolate ice cream cake I might add) and falling in front of everyone, she is having a horrible day. Haley and Alex rush to her and tell her that she doesn’t have to prove anything. At this point, though, because we know Claire, she has to finish. She then proceeds to give a going-away speech to the wrong Herm.

In the end, Joe tells Jay that he loves having him come to his school, which makes him feel good about it and makes him return… to only continue his feud with “big ears” who leaves Jay stuck on a slide because he couldn’t hear him.

Kids these days.

Can Kanye West Survive the Kardashian’s Man Destroyer Machine?

can kanye west survive kardshians destructive ways 2015 gossip imagesThe Kardashians are no strangers to the spotlight. In fact, they are excellent creators of opportunities to shine for the whole world to see. With the most recent “family crisis” involving Khloe Kardashian’s no longer estranged NBA player husband Lamar Odom, they have been and will continue to be in the news even more.  This storyline can easily give them the ratings bump the show has needed for some time now.

Considering everything that has happened in the last nine days, countless articles have been written about the Kardashian women’s track record when it comes to men. If I am being honest here, they have a horrible track record that always seems to end with the men in their lives being entangled in scandals that call into question their sexuality, among a host of other salacious revelations. Bruce Jenner lasted the longest of men in their lives, but it wasn’t until he transitioned in Caitlyn Jenner that he was able to be free from their grasp and control.

The jokes abound. Kris turned Bruce into a woman, Khloe drove Lamar to drugs, Kourtney made Scott an alcoholic, Kim emasculated Kris Humphries (we don’t really know about her first husband Damon Thomas), and Kylie is dating a man who has been allegedly known to get down and dirty with a transsexual here and there.

Considering all the men that have come and gone in their lives and that are still present, Kanye West stands, for now, as the only one that has not fallen prey to the Kardashian women’s lust for control and fame. How has he survived falling into their destructive pattern?

Kanye seems to hold his own against them, especially Kris Jenner who is known for being an “at any cost” woman when it comes to her lifestyle, career, and her girls’ ability to rack in the dough. One nanny, Pam Behan, even paints Kris as a temper tantrum throwing adult child who becomes belligerent when she doesn’t get her way. “She does not take no for an answer.”

According to Radar Online, Pam had this experience:

“Kris gave me a shopping list and told me to go to the grocery store. When I got home, Kris said, ‘Where is the broccoli?’ I told her broccoli was not on the list. She immediately lost her temper, yelling, ‘I can’t fucking believe you fucking forgot the fucking broccoli!”

These kinds of stories lead me to believe that she is the source of all the issues men have with the K Club. And considering the Kardashian/Jenner women’s high profile relationships are filled with scandals, Kanye is the only one that has gone untouched. Here’s why.

Kanye was his own man before being with Kim K., and he will be after. West was raised by a single mother, and she was an educated woman who had her shit together, so she instilled in him what it means to be a man. That mixed with his arrogance, gives him an uncanny sense of self. And it is that sense of self that enables him to hold his own and not get embroiled in the Kardashians’ mess.

Think about it. Lamar came from an extremely broken background and even admitted to being somewhat weak. The Kardashians gave him something he never had before; a sense of family, and once you get a taste of that, you will hold on to it by all means.

Tyga is nothing but a joke and needed to maintain the little bit of fame he has, so he latched on to whoever would give him the time a day, which turned out to be the baby of the family. I can’t really put my finder on Kris Humphries getting involved with Kim but whatever the reason, it wasn’t good enough for him to stay. He didn’t want to tow the family line and wound up forcing one of the producers of the show to state in a deposition that some of it was manufactured.

Scott Disick has children with Kourtney, so that complicates it for him. He wanted to be in their lives so he tried to play nice as long as he could, which as we have seen, has finally gotten the best of him. These men lack what is needed to put the attention whoring family of women in their place. I mean, they even destroyed the men of their family so much so that they don’t want to be around them.

Kanye has men around him like Jay-Z, who keeps him in check (supposedly) like “Kim isn’t good for your brand. They go way back, so Kanye is going to listen to what Jigga has to say. Aside from that, Kanye is an artist- pretentious, cocky, rude- but still an artist. He doesn’t have time for reality TV shows and made up storylines because he actually makes good music that people like.

Kanye is clear on his brand and how to make money, which is what all of this comes down to; being indebted to the Kardashians because of money. He knows how to make it so there is nothing that Kris or Kim can hold over his head. His brand is not dependent or furthered by them, and that’s why he hasn’t fallen into their man-eater web.

Can you imagine being a part of a family that puts their fame above everything? It comes at a price and in their case, the causalities of the war they fight are men. And they don’t care.

Does this mean he can’t one day succumb to their venom? No man is immune from a woman’s ways, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

Cameron Wake & Ndamukong Suh Bring Life Back To Miami Dolphins

0

cameron wake ndamukong suh come to life 2015 nflThe Miami Dolphins are back!

Okay, let’s not get too excited. They played the Tennessee Titans, so we’ll have to wait till their first game against a real team under interim head coach Dan Campbell. But let’s also not ignore how much improved this team looked in Week 6.

The big difference? The defensive line. That nine-figure line actually gave fans their money worth Sunday, sacking quarterbacks Marcus Mariota and Zach Mettenberger six total times, surrendering only 63 total yards on the ground, and snagging two interceptions.

Well, the interceptions were Reshad Jones and Brent Grimes, but you get the point. Mariota and Mettenberger actually felt the pressure that this line was supposed to be dishing out all season.

“They were feeding off us, so don’t give those guys our credit,” joked wide receiver Jarvis Landry after the game. “No, man, it was good to see the turnovers. Reshad, Brent, the fumble, Cam Wake, seeing the D-line really getting after it. It was amazing to see all those guys stepping up and doing their part.”

To give credit where credit is due, the Dolphins offense also looked spectacular. 38 points is a lot to put up on anyone, and only giving up 10 is no small task either.

Oft-criticized defensive end Cameron Wake and infinitely-more-oft-criticized defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh played a large role in the beating. Suh did his part in stopping the run and clogging up the middle of the field; Wake, on the other hand, was untouchable on the pass rush side, finishing with four of the Dolphins’ six sacks.

Wake received a good deal of doubt this season while playing on a nagging hamstring injury. He made it clear Sunday that there is no longer a problem there.

“Cam Wake is back,” said Campbell after the game. “Not that he was ever gone, but I’ll tell you what, the bye week did him well…He was feeling it; he had four sacks, and he probably should have had two more. He’s all over the field; he’s one of our leaders, and he’s an impact player that those guys look up to and will play for.”

The Dolphins may not be Super Bowl contenders all of a sudden, but one thing’s for sure, Campbell has done a fantastic job of revitalizing the team and the fans in Miami.

‘Empire’ 205 Be True: Baptism & Kidnapping Recap

This week on Empire, get ready for a dip in the baptismal water… with sharks.

So Vernon’s dead body showing up in DA’s Ford car miraculously makes her and the judge drop the case, and Lu is a free man. Wow. Andre is back at Empire and ready to work.

We see Cookie working with Tiana, and she’s looking good. While getting help with her phone, they see a video of Lu telling everyone that he was set up, and justice has prevailed. Hakeem brings in his new girl Laura and introduces her to Tiana. He asks T to show her around. She does, and she also makes her think that Hakeem brings girls to the studio all the time to make them “a star.”

Cookie and Hakeem have a conversation about what really happen to Vernon. “Mom you think Vernon really offed himself.” She lets her youngest know that where she’s from if snitches don’t kill themselves, someone else will. They share a moment, which shows the progress of their relationship.

Lu throws a party back at Empire equipped with girls twerking, working and putting it on pretty much everyone. André is given the royal treatment and named the head of Gutter Life an old label Lu use to run.

Dre later goes to see his pastor, Reverend Price, who tells him Lu is just testing him. Andre says he needs protection, which means baptism. The pastor tells him to confess all his sins to his family so that he can have his conscious clean and Dre laughs. “My family only goes to church for a funeral.”

Jamal is in the studio taking direction from his father on his latest song. Lu tells him to sing the song this way, but Jamal asks Ne-Yo, who makes a cameo, what he thinks. Lu tells them that they should do a song together since they know what works best. Just then Michael walks in and is introduced to Ne-Yo. When he finds out the singer is going on the road with Jamal, he is ecstatic, and Lucious doesn’t like it. Mike leaves out, and Lucious tells his son “You don’t bring your girlfriend on the road.” How did we not see that coming?

Tiana waits for her ride after practice and two “fans” come in wanting a picture. They end up robbing her and taking her purse. She falls to the ground screaming for help. Um yea, she went out like a real punk here. I’m just saying.

She goes back inside Dynasty and Cookie is pissed knowing what this could do to her business. Then, the girls who took her purse put a video on YouTube pretty much extorting Tiana, but Cookie is not having it.

The artist who painted Jamal tells him, in front of Michael, that he shouldn’t bring his relationship on the road. Moments later, they are walking, without Michael for some reason, and he comes on to Jamal. I mean like pushes him up against the wall and at the same time unzips his pants come on to him. Like Whaaaaat? Jamal tells him about himself and says that he could never do that to Michael how happens to show up right as all of this is finishing up.

Dre shares his plans to get baptized with Rhonda, and she’s like “Um, okay.” She tells him that he doesn’t have to confess anything to his family as they will not understand. We find out too that their sex life is suffering as she wants to have sex right then and there in the office, but he tells her, “not now.”

Cookie and Lu meet at a mortuary to discuss what to do with Vernon. “So did you off him or did you get one of your goons?” He denies it as he tries to get some. She tells him “you better not be behind Tiana’s purse snatching” and, of course, he says he’s not.

Back in the studio, Jamal gets advice from Ne-Yo since he can’t seem to focus during the session. The singer/producer tells him he should bring Michael and after realizing he’s right, Jamal belts out the song perfectly.

Later that night, after making his decision to bring his man with him, at a party at their house, the artist who tried to suck Jamal off ends up going down on Michael instead… and he lets him most likely in retaliation for walking in on them. Jamal walks out on them (they were on the balcony). And doesn’t really do anything. Michael doesn’t say a word either. I’m so confused. We don’t really know what happens there as it is not mentioned or referred to the rest of the episode.

Cookie and Laz, the promoter she hired for Dynasty’s first tour, spend some time together in her office when they catch two guys stealing her masters. They pull guns on them. When Cookie asks, “Who sent you,” they tell her “Thirsty.” Lucious you dirty dog.

At Jamal’s house the next morning, Dre meets with his brothers to confess his sins, one of which is coming clean about sending thugs to jump Jamal and letting Hakeem take the blame. He asks them to be there for his baptism. Hakeem is down, but Jamal is concerned how the pastor feels about his lifestyle.

Dre then goes to see his father who tells him to “check your faith at the door.” Dre lets his dad know that he can’t do that. He then confesses to him that he almost committed suicide in Lu’s studio because he thought he hated him so badly and felt that would hurt him. He asks father to come to his baptism, and Lu tells him no because, “There I no God, you just need to man the hell up.”

Jamal offends Laura. She tells him, “I’m not that kind of girl” as he pushes up on her leaves. The next day he finds her walking to her bus stop to go home and apologizes. She forgives him because all she’s ever wanted to do was sing.

The day of Dre’s baptism, his momma is there to help him get ready. He confesses to her, “I’m not a good person mom… I’ve done horrible things.” She tells him “God knows your heart, now keep your mouth shut. I don’t need to know what you did nor does anybody else.”

His brothers, mother, and wife are there to support him…and so is his daddy. Way to go Lu showing up for your son. He walks into the church, and there is a hush that falls over the crowd. “Speak the devil’s name and he will walk right in,” his ex-wife affectionately says. He introduces himself to Reverend Price and Dre tells him, “Thanks for coming pop, I love you.” Lu, the loving father he is, tells him, “I know you do.”

During Dre’s baptism, Lu and Cookie argue back and forth, and Rhonda tells them to “hush.” As Dre goes down, Lu has flashbacks of his mother drowning him as a child, and he can’t take it. He walks out right as Dre comes up from the last dip.

In the end, Hakeem is kidnapped during a run in the park (in broad daylight), and we are left swimming in a pool of wonderment and exhaustion.

‘Paranormal Witness’ 409 The Fireplace & Witchery Recap

paranormal witness 409 the fireplace witchery 2015 imagesIt’s all about ‘The Fireplace’ on this episode of “Paranormal Witness,” as a pregnant woman named Linda and her daughter named Amanda moved into a new apartment. While washing the windows, the woman still couldn’t get sunlight to come into her apartment through the windows. In the evening, the woman said the apartment felt uneasy, but she assumed she was just lonely in a new place and was always wondering about her daughter Amanda’s dad. While reading her daughter a bedtime story, she heard heavy breathing near her left ear. She then sent Mandy into her bedroom because the heavy breathing was making her nervous.

The woman’s cousin Jeanne came to visit, and Linda saw Mandy having a conversation with someone Linda couldn’t see. Linda assumed it was just Mandy’s imaginary friend that she was talking to. Then Linda noticed her bedroom door was shut and when she went to open it she couldn’t. Mandy was her in the bedroom alone and was calling out for her. When she finally got the door open, she saw that Mandy’s bed had been wedged against the door, and that’s why it wouldn’t open. The next morning she heard a creaking noise coming from her boarded up fireplace, followed by a popping sound. The sound stopped and Linda let it go, assuming it was the breeze or a bird had fallen down the chimney.

A couple days later Linda’s boyfriend called her, and she told him about the strange things happening in her apartment. He told her it was just her imagination, but she knew he was wrong. Linda set up Mandy’s new bedroom and kissed her goodnight. At midnight, she heard a horrible scream she described as blood-curdling. She ran into Mandy’s room, and the child was violently shaking and screaming. Linda grabbed her and tried to protect her. She got Mandy onto the couch and then started hearing sounds from the fireplace. The wood was popping and pushing outwards.  Linda took Mandy and went back into the bedroom. She said she knew something paranormal was going on in her house and that she thought she might be going crazy. Linda had no one to call late at night to come rescue her and Mandy. The next morning she went into Mandy’s bedroom, and everything was calm. Linda said she closed the bedroom door and never went back into it. She said she wanted to leave but had invested in the apartment.

Linda invited her sister Audrey to the apartment, and she began to experience the same things Linda had been. Something grabbed Audrey and Linda fought until that something let her go. Linda gave birth to a baby boy and brought him home to the apartment. She said everything was peaceful and calm, and she felt like she had turned a corner. Then the popping and scratching coming from the fireplace started happening again. Linda called Jeanne and told her. Jeanne came over and said when she walked in Linda told her the apartment was haunted. Jeanne said she wanted to be there for Linda since she was raising two kids alone. Jeanne tried to screw the fireplace shut again. She then had a feeling of dread and heard a voice. The voice told her to get Linda’s kids out of the apartment. Jeanne then told Linda they needed to move out and come with her but Linda said she couldn’t. Jeanne took the baby home with her overnight and said she felt bad leaving Linda there. Then Linda went to bed, and she knew something wasn’t right. Suddenly something was on top of her, and all she could do was pray. It then released Linda, and she thought maybe she might have had a bad dream. When Linda got her baby boy back, she was getting angry at the kids’ father for not taking them out of the situation. Linda invited her friend Becky over for dinner. She said she felt safer with a friend there. They heard a crash and dishes were being removed from cabinets and thrown on the floor. The bedroom door was shaking, and the baby was in the room at the time. Sh eventually got into the room and got the baby. There was blood in the baby’s crib, and Linda couldn’t figure out where it came from. The baby had no cuts or open wounds.

A priest came to the apartment and read blessings from the Bible. Then there was a muffled sound coming from the fireplace. Something hit Audrey’s leg and went around a table in the living room of the apartment. They heard a hitting sound coming from inside the wall. It then went up the chimney, and the sun started to shine through the windows. Linda had the fireplace boarded up again. That night the phone rang and the priest called and said the paranormal being was still in the apartment. Linda felt sick to her stomach because something was trying to break through the boarded up fireplace again. Linda told Mandy to pack her stuff so that they could go to Audrey’s house. Two weeks later Linda was packing and moving out of the apartment. Jeanne came over to help her and found a thing hanging in one of the closets. Jeanne asked Linda what the thing was, and Linda said it was something she saw when she moved in. Jeanne said it looked like an evil Pentagram. Linda said she then realized that when she was a kid a witch had lived in the same apartment she had been living in. Linda moved out of the apartment and never had to deal with a paranormal again.

‘Survivor: Second Chance’ 3105 A Snake In the Grass Blindside Recap

survivor second chance 3105 a snake in grass 2015 imagesIt’s a major blindside on this episode of “Survivor: Second Chance.” At the Angkor camp Abi said she didn’t like feeling that she owed people anything. Monica commented that crabbing was something she and the others like to do. Kimmi said she wanted to eat all the clams she found in the water. Monica told Kimmi she was depleting the ocean by taking so many clams. Kimmi said if Monica is her biggest problem in the game she is doing OK. She said she wasn’t used to getting unwelcome opinions.

For this week’s rewards challenge, 3 members from each tribe were tied together to roll a barrel with another tribe member in it. They had to chase balls along the way and get those six balls into six holes; the first two tribes to find them all would get a reward. The first place tribe would get comfortable chairs, pillows, blankets and a tarp to use at camp, as well as refreshments. The second-place tribe would only get a tarp.  Ta Keo was the first place tribe, and Angkor was the second place tribe.

Back at camp, the Ta Keo the enjoyed fresh fruit and talked about catching fish to go with the fruit. Keith said he didn’t hook up with his fellow tribe members last time, but this time was different. Spencer said it seemed like their tribe kept winning immunity but losing rewards challenges. Spencer said he watched the guys fish last time, but he never did those things with them because he felt like he was an awkward geek. He said now he felt like he was living the Survivor dream.

Woo said the victory for Angkor was great for them. He said he was using his mom as inspiration to push forward in the game. He explained his mom had died despite a heart transplant. Woo said he was playing the game for her and for everyone who voted for him to get a second chance. Abi said Woo was using his mom story so get people to work with him and get along with him. Tasha said Woo and Abi were like night and day and that it took everything in her just to be around Abi, but Woo took orders easily. Tasha called Abi a time bomb but said she had kept her in the game.

For this week’s immunity challenge, the tribes had to go through a series of obstacles to the top of a tower where they had to launch bean bags and hit their targets. Angkor and Ta Keo both won the challenge. Spencer said it was between him and Wigglesworth as to who would be going home this week.

Jeremy was trying to decide whether to trust Jeremy or Wigglesworth. Spencer said he was used to being on the bottom of the tribe. He also said he wanted to make sure voting off Wigglesworth was the plan for that night at Tribal Council.

Monica said it might benefit her game to keep Wigglesworth in the game. Jeremy questioned Monica’s actions in the game. Stephen said if they took out Monica it could screw up the trust they had for each other.

That night at Tribal Council Stephen said this game is based on trust, but you have no way of knowing when to trust. Wigglesworth said her actions would hopefully keep her in the game. Spencer said that he had a unified tribe for the first time. Jeremy said Kelly was loyal and worked hard for the tribe. Monica said she thought tonight’s vote was locked in. Kimmi said it stinks to squash someone else’s hopes and dreams. Stephen said strategy is based on emotions and bonds were needed to form alliances. The tribe then cast their votes, and Jeff Probst tallied them and announced that Monica was voted out.

‘Black-ish’ 205 Churched Recap

blackish 205 churched recap images 2015This week on “Black-ish,” the Johnson family tackles parents being “no people” and church.

Bow and Dre are okay with saying no to their children, who point out tot them all the opportunities they miss to be normal kids. Their two youngest ask them to start saying yes more, so they do. Jack and Diane are invited to the Coopers’ child’s birthday party, which means Bow and Dre have to attend too. They find that they actually have a great time and agree that they should start saying “yes” more often. At the party, The Coopers feel so comfortable with the Johnsons they invite them to attend church with them. “Church?” Dre is taken aback.  For him, Sundays are all about the kids’ sports and Diane’s court ordered therapy. And without Bow by his side, he tells them, “Yes.”

Back at the house, the Johnson kids protest and grandma Ruby is offended since she has been trying to get them to attend church with her for years. She’s even had to tell the people at her church that Dre’s absence is due to him fighting the Taliban. Oh, Grandma Ruby. During this time too, somehow the fact that the twins have never been baptized. “Sweet Lord holy Jesus keep me near the cross.” Needless to say, she is making plans to get her babies right with the Lord and she also tells her twin grandchildren that they are going to hell.

At the Coopers church that Sunday, it is rocking. The Johnsons love the contemporary music, the messages and the free cupcakes. Bow tells her husband, “Is it crazy this is one of the best Sundays of my life.”

The Coopers find them after church and the Johnsons express how glad they are they came. So what do their neighbors do? Invite them to come next week and because they are on a newfound “yes” way of life, Bow and Dre agree.

The next day, Dre goes into work very chipper, and his co-workers are excited for him, but they tell him to be careful with going to church because, “You get locked in.” At home, he asks Bow if they are “getting all churchy “ and she says no. “I think the Coopers church really could be our church.”

Scene switch, and everything they loved about their first visit bothers them. Dre wants to leave right in the middle but as they get ready to they can’t… because as found his place amongst the musicians on stage- he plays the tambourine. After service, wanting to think of a way to get out of having to come back, they tell the Coopers that “culturally speaking” the church is just not for them. Because the Coopers are so understanding, they offer to attend church with the Johnsons, who say, “Yes.” This should be good.

Dre goes to his mother telling her he’s ready to finally come back to church, and she calls him out. “I heard about them snowflakes inviting themselves to my church… them white folks are more than welcome. Black Jesus doesn’t see color.”

That Sunday, the Johnsons dress up. Grandma Ruby even buys Junior the black man’s church outfit- a pimp suit. This scene is great because it is a perfect representation of what goes on in a black church. Since the Johnsons are not used to church, they become restless. The Coopers, however, seem to enjoy the overly long service, with their son saying “amen.” Dre realizes the Coopers are better at “black church” than them.  Four hours and 57 minutes later, church is over, and the Johnsons are ready to confess about their lack of church attendance but they don’t have to because the Coopers use the same “culturally speaking” bull crap as to why the will stay at their own church.

The next Sunday, while they lye in bed after a few Sundays having to be up and ready for church, Bow and Dre actually miss going to church. As they talk about the possibility of looking for one that fits them, Ruby comes in to announce that she baptized Diane and Jack in the pool. Bow and Dre have no words and just look at each other.

Grandmas are the best, aren’t they?

‘Law & Order SVU’ 1706 Maternal Instincts Recap

law orders suv 1706 maternal instincts 2015 imagesThis was a rather twisty but intense episode of “Law & Order: SVU,” as Rollins’s mom came to NYC to help Rollins with her pregnancy. The Deputy Chief brought the new sergeant to meet Benson. They went to a Manhattan hotel after a woman was attacked in her room. The woman said a man barged into her room and covered her mouth, pushed her to the ground and raped her. The woman said she passed out after the rape. She said she knew her rapist, Anton. They went to Anton’s hotel room, and Anton told them he just called the police because his flute had been stolen. Sonny and Finn brought him to the station for questioning. Anton said he had a drink with the woman at the hotel bar and went back to his room and passed out. Anton denied attacking the woman. The new sergeant brought video footage to Rollins and Benson of Anton breaking into the woman’s room.

Rollins got a message that Anton’s flute had been taken to a pawn shop. Rollins’s sister Kim was the one that took it there. After seeing footage of her doing so, Rollins lied to Finn and said she wasn’t able to access it. Rollins took Finn into the break room and showed him the video on her phone. Finn said Rollins had to tell Benson about this, but she wouldn’t. Rollins said her mother must know where Kim was.

Rollins called her mom asking where Kim was. She told her that Kim had been working as a prostitute. When Rollins’ mom hung up the phone, she looked at Kim and asked her if she had done anything wrong, but Kim denied any wrongdoing. Benson found out Anton found Kim on Craigslist. Rollins and Kim met up at a cafe and Rollins told her she was in serious trouble. She said she didn’t drug Anton and that he gave her the flute. Then Rollins’s mom came over, and Rollins tried to shoo her away. Rollins said if Kim didn’t come with her willingly she would arrest her. Kim then left and said to tell their mother goodbye.

Sergeant Mike was interrupted by Benson when they found out that they had proof Anton raped the woman in the hotel room. Kim had a pimp that led her to Anton, and Sergeant Mike questioned the pimp about the case.

Benson brought Rollins and Finn in to question Rollins about knowing her sister pawned the stolen flute and not saying anything. Rollins’s mother was brought in to talk to Benson, Rollins and Sergeant Mike about Kim. He told their mom there was an outstanding warrant for Kim and that if she knew where Kim was but wouldn’t say she would be arrested. Rollins’s mom then called Kim and Kim called back a minute later. Her mother told her to stay where she was. Kim was at Rollins’s apartment at the time, so Benson and the team went there and arrested her. Finn went into her apartment and found that Kim had assaulted her pimp, and the pimp was then arrested.

At the station, their mom showed up and saw Kim in handcuffs. Benson sent Rollins and her mother home. She told Kim to be quiet until she got a lawyer. When she did, her lawyer said she acted in self-defense. Kim said she was given money to go to school and help her sister when her baby is born.

In court, Anton was charged with first-degree rape but his lawyer filed a not guilty plea for him. His lawyer tried to say he was drugged. Anton was remanded without bail. Kim was charged with grand larceny and assault. Kim pleaded not guilty on all charges. The judge remanded her to Riker’s until her trial. Rollins’s mother said Rollins used her to set up Kim but Rollins said Kim’s pimp could have killed her. Rollin’s mother said she was leaving New York until Kim’s trial started. Rollins then almost passed out and was taken to the hospital. She was checked out and told her blood pressure had spiked.

Sergeant Mike went into Olivia’s office and she apologized for not knowing the escort in this case was Rollins’s sister. Sergeant Mike said he wanted Benson to know that what happens at SVU stays at SVU.

At Riker’s Island, Rollins went to visit Kim. Kim told Rollins her lawyer was going to get a plea deal for her in court and that he thought she would be out of jail in less than a year. She also said she thought once she got out of jail he was going to ask her to marry him.

Kris Jenner Not Letting Khloe Kardashian Break From KUWTK & Drake’s Rip Off Report

Momager Kris Jenner isn’t letting Khloe Kardashian take a break from filming KUWTK, Wale chips in on Meek Mill/Drake beef, and people are calling foul on Drake’s Hotline Bling claiming it rips off another song.

kris jenner not letting khloe kardashian take break from kuwtk 2015 gossipKris Jenner Not Letting Khloe Kardashian Take Break From “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.”

Sources are already calling BS on part of this story as it’s being claimed that Khloe Kardashian wants to take an open-ended break from filming “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” while she takes care of her husband, Lamar Odom. We’ve already heard that this isn’t true as Khloe hasn’t even mentioned taking a break although other ‘sources’ are saying that the rumors are coming from the Kardashian camp. At the rate ‘sources’ are claiming that Lamar is walking, talking, dancing, etc. in his recovery, she may not even have to worry about a break.

Momager Kris Jenner has put a nix on this idea whether it was true or not as she will hold her daughter up to the contract obligation she made to the show. This part of the story definitely sounds like a Kris move, but once again, the Kardashians are hogging the media spotlight as the premiere of their upcoming season comes closer. Most people have forgotten that Lamar was a basketball star as the press has reduced him to another tragic reality star story gone wrong.

wales weighs in on meek mill drake 2015 gossipWale Gives His Two Cents on Meek Mill/ Drake Beef

It is interesting that this is still a very relevant story. I guess people just can’t get enough of rap’s latest beef. Wale, who is Meek Mill’s label mate, weighed in on it during a recent visit to the Breakfast Club. He apparently was shocked that Meek would start something with Drake.

According to Rap-Up, Wale said:

“I can’t tiptoe around this one,” he admitted. “Somebody probably be off the drink right now. It’s not a good look. It’s not a good thing you’re doing.”

He goes on to say that he tried to call his friend on several occasions when everything happened but was never able to get through.

“I ain’t talk to him—I called him several times since that… I don’t know what’s going on.”

As far as he is concerned, he gets how guys can be and believes that everything going on with Meek at the time (touring, his relationship with Nicki) may have caused him to speak before weighing the outcome.

“I talk a lot to dudes at Dreamchasers, everybody cool and whatever, but when he did that I was just like, alright, somebody be off the drink. A little testosterone on tour. You know, you’re wit’ your girl. I don’t know what’s going on, but it’s not the right decision.”

We feel you, Wale.

amber rose not happy with bitchy gq 2015 gossipAmber Rose Check’s GQ for Horrible Labels

When you are a woman with a reputation like Amber Rose, people label you. Once referred to as a stripper, and oft times called a slut, the labels that really seem to get under the model’s skin are “infamous ex” and “baby mama.”

GQ has gotten a mouthful from Rose after an article in their publication made mention of her and used both of those labels.

“Amber Rose wrote the book on it. No seriously: Kanye’s infamous ex, Wiz Khalifa’s baby mama, America’s toughest bad babe since Sigourney Weaver in Alien 3 is about to publish a book of life lessons called How to Be a Bad Bitch.”

Rose was not feeling what their writers thought was clever. She took to her social media to set the record straight.

“Really @gq??? I’m so much more then Kanye’s Ex or Wiz’s baby’s mama. Damn, why the fuck did u guys reach out to me for this article and photoshoot? To dumb me down? I talked about feminism and my Slutwalk… expected so much more from u guys and I’m so disappointed. I was so excited to be featured in GQ not realizing I was shooting for a tabloid. My Slutwalk was for ignorant shit like this. Oh “Her beautiful dark twisted journey to the top”? Nice pun. Negative af. Thx for nothing.”

Good for her.

drake hotline bling 2015 gossipDrake’s Hotline Bling Rip Off?

You have to really watch it when you have as much power as Drake and people like him. You begin to think that anything goes and that you can do and take from whomever whatever you want. That’s exactly what people are saying about Drake’s new song, Hotline Bling.

Yes, people are making fun of his dancing in the video, but that is overshadowing the fact that the track sounds a lot like indie Virginia rapper D.R.A.M’s 2014 single “Cha Cha.” And the really screwed up thing about it is that Drake is not giving credit where credit it due.

Fans of D.RA.M are calling the Canadian rapper out about it saying that the upbeat and warm feel of Hotline Bling comes from the energetic feel of the original.

After listening to both of the songs at the same time, there are some similarities. And by some similarities I mean pretty much everything except for the words. But you know how these things go, if Drake did rip D.R.AM and didn’t give him credit, he’s wrong but that usually doesn’t mean anything. Indie artists have it the hardest.

zendaya fixes doctored photo 2015 gossipZendaya Slam Magazine for Photoshopping

It is so refreshing when a young superstar like Zendaya Coleman speaks out about the way in which Hollywood tries its damnedest to make women feel horrible about themselves.

The actress slammed Modeliste magazine for Photoshopping her cover photo, which clearly promotes unrealistic body and beauty ideals.  I mean come on; Zendaya is beautiful and already exudes the ideal body type according to societal standards (thin and fair skinned). Why oh why did they alter her body? She, of course, is not having it.

“These are the things that make women self-conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have.”

Zendaya hits it right on the nail because truth be told, her pictures don’t need to be retouched… ever! Plus they didn’t even do a good job as her legs look deformed.

Kudos to her for saying something about it.

Who Will Win 2015 FIFA World Coach of the Year?

0

who will win fifa world coach 2015 soccerFIFA has announced the names of ten managers that are vying for the World Coach of the Year award, the winning manager will be presented on the same night as the Ballon d’Or winner. Here’s the ten-man shortlist released by FIFA: Massimiliano Allegri (Italy/Juventus), Carlo Ancelotti (Italy/Real Madrid), Laurent Blanc (France/Paris Saint-Germain), Unai Emery (Spain/Sevilla FC), Pep Guardiola (Spain/FC Bayern Munich), Luis Enrique (Spain/FC Barcelona), Jose Mourinho (Portugal/Chelsea), Jorge Sampaoli (Argentina/Chilean national team), Diego Simeone (Argentina/Atletico Madrid), Arsene Wenger (France/Arsenal).

We will look at some of the selected once with the best chance of taking the prestigious trophy home.

Massimiliano Allegri

The Italian tactician was appointed the manager of Juventus in a surprise move last summer, following the resignation of Antonio Conte. The way Allegri’s last job at AC Milan had turned out it wasn’t the best endorsement for his coaching credentials and the Old Lady faithful let their new boss know that when they protested on his first appearance as their club coach. However, the Italian silenced all critics with a splendid campaign that yielded a domestic double – something that even Conte couldn’t achieve – and almost led them to the treble. Allegri is one of the strongest candidates for the award.

Unai Emery

The Spaniard worked wonders on a meagre budget at Sevilla and helped them to a second successive triumphant Europa League campaign. His team got the better of Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in the final in Poland to retain the trophy they won the previous season – an exceptional feat considering the fierce nature of the second-tier European competition. He also enjoyed a successful domestic campaign as he led the Sevillistas to a respectable fifth spot in the table.

Pep Guardiola

Last term, the Catalan was in his second season at the Allianz Arena and led them to another successful domestic campaign. They won the league title at a canter but exited the DFB Pokal at the semi-final stage after losing to fierce rivals Borussia Dortmund. However, the biggest blemish on Guardiola will be the way his side folded up in the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.

Luis Enrique

The Asturian will be odds on favourite to win the award as he led Barcelona to an uber-successful campaign in which they collected a treble of the league title, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey. It is an exceptional feat for any manager, let alone someone in his first season at a club. It is hard to see anyone else grabbing the award other than Enrique.

Jose Mourinho

The Portuguese won Chelsea their first league title in five years in his second year of second spell at Stamford Bridge. Not just that, he made it a double by also winning the League Cup. Although his side’s round of 16 exits from the Champions League will count against him, but there is no doubt about the fact that his place in the shortlist is well deserved.

Jorge Sampaoli

The Argentine created history with the Chile national team earlier this summer as he led them to a successful Copa America campaign and in the process won Chileans their first ever major international trophy. The 55-year-old, who has been at the helm of the Chileans since 2012, may just clinch the award ahead of his more illustrious rivals.
