NFL Winners & Losers Week 9

0

nfl winners losers week 9 2015 imagesWhile I could dedicate every single Loser section to Greg Hardy and Jerry Jones, I will resist. The Boys did lose another game, so that’s a win from me and the rest of you all with some sense of morality.

Cam kept rolling as he and Brady appear to be the top candidates for MVP this year.

My Falcons ended up losers again to some team that used to be great but is now led by Blaine Gabbert.

Lots to get to so I can’t dwell on what happened in Levis Stadium. Here are the winners and losers from week nine.

NFL Grown Man of the Week: Eagles’ center Jason Kelce, who had the stones to say what the big name talking heads should have the courage to say about POS Greg Hardy.

“There are three (types) of people I have zero respect for in this world,” center Jason Kelce told the Philadelphia Daily News. “It’s people who hit women, people who molest children, and rapists. I’m glad he didn’t have a good day and … I don’t know. I think it’s a joke a guy like that is able to play this quickly.”

NFL Child of the Week: This could go to the Eagles DBs, who let Dez climb over them to snatch that touchdown pass, but let’s give it to someone more deserving. Greg Hardy’s little Twitter apology didn’t help his image. He is the same guy who caused the damage shown in the photos that popped up this week on DeadSpin.

Winner: Dez Bryant made his return to the field in dominant fashion even without a real quarterback to throw it to him. He had a “rip the ball away from a child catch” in the end zone and ended the game averaging 20 yards per catch. Of course, his Cowboys still lost but Dez is back! X

Loser: Aaron Rodgers won’t be in this category much, but boy did he miss a wide open Randall Cobb in the end zone on fourth down at the end of the Carolina game. It was a good marketing moment for Microsoft’s Surface Pro as Rodgers slammed the tablet thingy down in disgust after the play as it showed him his error in full HD.

Winner: Jason Pierre-Paul finally made it back to the field after his awful fireworks injury cost him part of his hand. It was easy for people to clown this NFLer, but it really could have happened to anyone. Nobody respects fireworks even though they are mini-explosives people!

Loser: Denver is no longer among the unbeaten. They lost to of all teams, the Colts, who spent more time filling out unemployment papers than game planning last week.

Winner: Antonio Brown went off on Sunday with 17 catches and racked 284 yards against the Raiders. He pushed his Steelers past a good Oakland team as Big Ben went down in the second half.

Loser: Big Ben will miss another few weeks after spraining his foot in the fourth quarter against Oakland. Jarvis Landry replaced him, and the Steelers managed to get the win by three.

Winner: Just call Cam Newton boss. He would win the MVP this year if Tom Brady wasn’t alive. He got his Panthers up big on Green Bay before the Pack came back at the end to make it a game. Newton is powering the offense and having a helluva good time doing it. While I find his antics a bit annoying, he does seem to enjoy the game more than most other players, especially QBs.

There’s something to having your QB get pumped up. It works for Brady who has always appeared to be one of the guys. Cam is a football player first and a QB second.

Loser: Dan Quinn. Coaching ain’t so easy, is it now? Damn. How can you not go for it on fourth down with under three minutes left and down four points. If you fail, you can still hope for a defensive stop with time left on the clock. That’s what the Falcons had to hope for anyway after kicking a useless field goal.

They lost 17-16 to Blaine Gabbert (he’s a real NFL QB believe it or not) and the 49ers. Now I’m about to jump on the Patriots’ bandwagon once again. Did I say Damn already? Damn,,,,,Damn, Damn!

Winner: The New England Patriots. They drafted Tom Brady in 1999. Congratulations. They beat Washington like Ronda Rousey beat Holly Holm next Saturday night.

Loser: Green Bay’s defense who ended up in a sideline shoving match. They got pummeled by Carolina’s offense and took their frustrations out on each other. It’s not a good look, but at least they didn’t shove around a special teams coach like Greg Hardy did a couple weeks ago.

Winner: The poor Packers fan who had his banner ripped up by Cam Newton who thought it didn’t belong in Panther Stadium. The guy cried about his $500 banner being destroyed by Newton, but I look at it as a win. How often can you have your property vandalized by an NFL MVP candidate? The fan has money, or he wouldn’t have been able to travel from Green Bay to Charlotte, NC to watch a 3 1/2 hour football game.

I’m big on personal property, but it was in Cam Newton’s house technically. Maybe Judge Judy can settle the dispute if it lingers after this week.

Loser: Todd Gurley had a good game but failed to reach 100 yards for the first time in five weeks. Adrian Peterson outshined the rookie as AP racked up 125 yards in the Vikings’ win over the Rams.

Winner: Marcus Mariota had a four touchdown game in his first start since getting hurt. He led his Titans to a win over New Orleans and has them alive in the woeful AFC South at 2-6.

Loser: Aqib Talib with his eye poke on the Colts’ Dwayne Allen after a shoving match that he wasn’t even involved in. The guy just rushed up on Allen and delivered the Three Stooges move in a most cowardly fashion. Talib went on to say Allen was milking it by acting like he was seriously hurt. Even if Allen was dong so, it was smart since it could have gotten one of the best DBs in the NFL ejected…and rightly so.

Winner: The Bengals’ TE Tyler Eifert laid waste to the Cleveland defense on TNF gathering up three more touchdowns. He now has more receiving TDs than any player in the League. The guy is a tight end!

In a recent interview on an Australian radio show, Rebel Wilson expressed her distaste for Kylie and Kendall Jenner. She said that she was asked to present an award with them at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, but she declined. Wilson stated her reason for saying no was that what the two stand for are things she is completely against. She also called the sisters superficial and said their respective careers don’t seem to be based on talent. Geez Rebel, tell us how you really feel. Some people truly do live up to their name.

Wrapping up this week’s celebrity gossip, Leah Remini recently gave Howard Stern an interview where she said both she and Tom Cruise were equal in the world of Scientology.

‘CSI Cyber’ 206 Gone in 6 Seconds Recap

It’s Fast and Furious time on this week’s episode of CSI: Cyber, where the police broke up an illegal street race in L.A. In an attempt to run from one police one of the cars in the race hit a car head on. When the police looked in the race car, there was no driver. Brad Harper, the man driving the car that was hit head-on was killed instantly. Agent Ryan said someone had been playing Grand Theft Auto in real life.

Daniel determined that the self-driving car was hacked into, and the hacker was driving it remotely. Nelson downloaded data from the self-driving car’s black box. Agent Mundo found the black box and took it. Raven watched news reports of the crash and the death of Harper. His father asked the media to stop running footage of the incident. Raven analyzed the black box and said she thought the self-driving car deliberately crashed into Harper’s car.

Agents Ryan and Mundo went to a repair shop where the self-driving car was taken after the crash. They had found out that the repair shop was owned by a group involved in a huge drug ring. A woman there told him a driver went by the name smokescreen, and no one in the group knew his real name.

A man, Steven, stuck in traffic noticed his car was acting weird. When the traffic light change and he accelerated, he found he no longer had the ability to stop the car or even slow it down. The incident made national news and Russell and Raven saw the report. Agents Ryan and Mundo, as well as Nelson, then went to the scene to talk to Steven, who said the car seemed possessed and didn’t slow down until police showed up. They found a black box in this car too. They went to the repair shop and found a car hacking tool in one of the cars in the shop. Two of the people working there were arrested. Agent Ryan found out that of the two people, one named Carmen was working undercover for the LAPD. She told Agent Ryan she was going to blow their sting operation. She gave him information on Paul, the other person working at the repair shop that was under suspicion.

Raven realized one of the cars that was hacked into had a mirror in it that puts the car back in its lane when it veers away. Daniel logged activity in both the cars that had been hacked. He traced activity to a Los Angeles car wash. One of the guys working at the car wash was putting a tracking device in a car. Agents Ryan and Mundo suspected smokescreen worked at the car wash and told the owner they needed to talk to the employees. The guy that had put the tracking device in the car then left the car wash without telling anyone.

They figured out that a man confined to a wheelchair was a former drag racer that was the one hacking into other people’s cars. Mundo met with Carmen and said they needed her to race the suspect in the case so they could prove he was guilty. Carmen got the hard drive from Paul’s laptop and gave it to Mundo.

Smokescreen was revealed to be using ToggleFly to hack into cars. Agent Ryan said they had to find the cell number the car hacking tool was using to help the hacker find new victims. Daniel said he was going to control a self-driven car and have it race Smokescreen’s car. He hacked into the car Nelson rented in Los Angeles so he could steer it himself.

At FBI headquarters, they had a live feed of the car race between Nelson’s rental car and Smokescreen’s car, which he controlled remotely. Nelson was supposed to be out of the rental car before the race started, but he was in the car when Daniel started remotely driving it from D.C. They tracked the hacker’s phone and found out he was five minutes from where they were. Nelson disabled the computer and managed to stop the car before anyone was hurt or killed. Then Agent Ryan caught Smokescreen and confronted him about what he did. He was then arrested by FBI officials. Mundo found the original self-driving car but had to fight off Paul after he discovered Carmen tied up in the car’s trunk.

Winners & Losers From College Football: Week 10

winners losers from college football week 10 2015 imagesIt was a wild weekend in college football. It was the first to be played after the release of the College Football Playoff rankings, which tends to always bring about a long series of ‘what-ifs’. Several of those what-if scenarios were answered as four previously unbeaten teams – TCU, Michigan State, Memphis, LSU – lost on Saturday. While there were plenty of upsets over the weekend, there were several winners. Here’s a look at them as well as the big losers from Week 10.

WINNERS

In the first CFP poll, Clemson stood alone at No. 1. It was somewhat surprising, but the Tigers would have the chance to prove that they belonged when they faced No. 16 Florida State on Saturday. After losing to the Seminoles the last three seasons, head coach Dabo Swinney’s Tigers rose to the challenge and defeated FSU, 23-13. After giving up a 75-yard run to Dalvin Cook on the game’s second play, Clemson and QB Deshaun Watson took over. Watson completed 28-of-42 passes for 297 yards and a touchdown. He also ran 16 times for 107 yards as the Tigers rolled up 215 yards on the ground. Clemson now has a straight shot to the ACC title. They will face Syracuse and Wake Forest to close conference play and then take on South Carolina in the annual rivalry game.

Leonard Fournette got all the press, but it was Alabama running back Derrick Henry who showed up the Heisman Trophy favorite as Alabama defeated LSU, 30-16. Henry rushed 38 times for 210 yards and scored three touchdowns clearly outplaying Fournette. The LSU running back was frustrated all night by an Alabama defense that would yield nothing. Fournette finished with 31 yards on 19 carries and LSU as a team rushed for just 54 yards.

Can anyone cover Oklahoma State wide receiver James Washington? In the Cowboys 49-29 upset of No. 8 TCU, Washington had five catches for 184 yards and three touchdowns. He caught touchdown passes of 48 and 50 yards in the fourth quarter. In his past two games, Washington has nine receptions, five of them for touchdowns.

The biggest winner in Week 10? College football fans. They were treated to the Oklahoma State upset of TCU, a thrilling and controversial finish in which six-loss Nebraska beat undefeated Michigan State, a Navy upset of Memphis, and the day’s finale in which Alabama dominated LSU. The great thing for fans is that it only gets better as the college football season heads down the stretch.

LOSERS

Ole Miss controlled its own destiny in the SEC West Division. Win out and the Rebels would play in the conference championship. Head coach Hugh Freeze and the Rebels defense forgot that they were supposed to play defense on 4th-and-25 in overtime, though. Arkansas would convert that fourth down on one of the wackiest plays of the season and go on to defeat Ole Miss 53-52 on Razorbacks QB Brandon Allen’s two-point conversion run. Now, Freeze and the Rebels must beat LSU and hope that Alabama loses to either Mississippi State or Auburn…or both.

The American Athletic Conference had a shot, a slim one, but a shot at being represented in the College Football Playoff. That all came to an end in Week 10. Navy’s triple option destroyed Memphis to the tune of 45-20 ending a 15-game win streak. Memphis had beaten Ole Miss earlier in the year, but that win doesn’t look as impressive now that the Rebels lost to Arkansas. Temple lost to Notre Dame last week to knock the Owls from the ranks of the unbeaten. The AAC’s last remaining undefeated team is Houston. The Cougars did beat Cincinnati (5-4) on Saturday but had to hold off a comeback to win 33-30. Houston plays Memphis this Saturday, but most likely doesn’t have the types of big wins to earn a shot at a berth in the four-team playoff.

Penn State couldn’t run out the clock to preserve a victory against No. 21 Northwestern. The Nittany Lions had come back from a 13-point deficit to take the lead 21-20, but quarterback Christian Hackenberg and the Penn State offense couldn’t produce when they needed it most. Northwestern kicker Jack Mitchell hit a 35-yard field goal with just nine seconds left in the game to give the Wildcats the 23-21 win. The Nittany Lions, now 7-3, might not win again. They have an off week before they face Michigan and Michigan State to close the season.

If Alabama running back Derrick Henry was a winner in Week 10, LSU’s Leonard Fournette was a definite loser. The Heisman candidate found the going tough against an Alabama front seven that was just relentless. Time and again, Fournette was hit prior to or at the line of scrimmage. He would finish with just 31 yards, 18 of which came on a one-fourth quarter carry. It was Henry with his 210 rushing yards against a pretty solid LSU defense that looked more like the Heisman candidate.

Missouri Football Players Strike

missouri football players strike 2015 imagesI won’t pretend to know all the details concerning the Missouri football team’s black players going on strike to protest the university president’s lack of action over several racist acts on campus. These athletes are pissed and want Missouri president Tim Wolfe removed from his position.

The players have vowed not to participate in any football related activities until their demands are met.

What I do know is that this could be the blueprint needed for change at every single university in the nation where college athletes are exploited for profit.

We saw what happened when Northwestern’s football team tried to unionize in order to have a larger say in how they are treated by their schools. They were not allowed to become a union by the powers that be. No way the good ole boys club was gonna let a bunch of “dumb athletes” come together to flex their collective muscles against the establishment.

While I admired what Northwestern tried to do, I knew it would be a failure. They were asking permission from the masters to be set free. You don’t ask for freedom. If you don’t like the rules, you simply stop playing the fucking game!

That’s what the Missouri football players are doing now. They aren’t begging anyone to let them unionize officially. They have come together as a group to enforce some change. They need no piece of paper to make them legitimate.

The lack of a football team taking the field next week will make their protest as legit as any official union. People will notice. Action will be taken.

Funny how folks sit up and pay attention when money is involved. Little protest signs are cute, but empty seats in a D1 football stadium? That will get folks fired.

As I said, I don’t know the full backstory that has led to Missouri football players wanting their university president removed from the job. I just know that striking college football players is a very good thing.

I have called for player strikes for years. I thought there should be a playoff setup years ago, and that football players should sit out bowl games until a playoff system was crafted.

I then realized that college athletes should be paid in a capitalist society like we have in America. I wanted a strike then so players could earn what they were worth. A scholarship was nice 50 years ago, but the trade doesn’t balance out now.

Tim Tebow should have been a millionaire coming out of Florida just as Julio Jones should have been when he exited Bama.

I find it shameful that some are calling for the Missouri players to lose their scholarships if they continue the strike. I thought football was just an extracurricular activity for student athletes? I could see punishing employees for not showing up to work, but these football players aren’t workers…are they?

Of course they are! They are generating income for the university.

Maybe the first school to follow suit should be Northwestern. They could show the powers that be that they don’t need any official recognition to form a solid union. Just refuse to play next week, hell the rest of the year. See how the people in charge like that.

Whatever demands Northwestern may have would be met pretty soon.

This Missouri strike could open up a lot of doors for college athletes. We may finally see some real change in college athletics.

The players have the power to make those changes happen. They are a cog in the machine, but a very important one. ESPN isn’t going to pay billions to show Mark Richt adjusting his microphone on the sidelines with no team on the field.

Fox won’t be interested in televising Nick Saban in his Khakis walking around the field all pissed off with no Bama players blowing up opposing running backs.

It would be a dream come true for me to see next weekend with multiple college football team strikes taking place. I love college football, but I hate the system that doesn’t properly reward the most important part of the game, the athletes.

Missouri is laying the groundwork for college athlete strikes for different reasons than the financial changes I want to see. But the word “strike” is the key here. If any team can’t see that they can do the same to get better treatment from the NCAA and their own universities then I guess those teams deserve the table scraps that they will keep getting.

‘The Walking Dead’ 605: Now Alexandrians Gets A Real Taste Of Life

Ever had a family member bring a bunch of friends over and you felt like you needed to hide your wallet and other valuables? That thought times a million must have been going through the heads of the Townies of Alexandria when Rick led a half hurd of flesh-eaters home on “The Walking Dead,” where they got a taste of real-life beyond the walls.

Deanna is in complete shock. Her peaceful image of a new world is all but gone and here comes Rick with a thousand supper guests who don’t care for canned beans.

After Rick makes it safely inside the walls of the city, he tries to get the group settled, telling them they have to stick together and that the walls will hold. Daryl and company will return and lead the half herd away soon enough he says.

Our boy Aaron backs Rick and fesses up about losing his backpack which brought the Wolves to their door quite literally. He can feel guilty but losing the pack could have happened anytime. He was out in the world trying to do good when he lost it, so it’s not like he was looking for a strip club and heroin when he dropped the pack with pictures of Alexandria.

The Alexandrians are all shook up, and the are not down with the new food rations, even though most of the Townies look like they could use some time away from the dinner table.

Deanna’s other son Spencer makes a nice speech about how they all can’t just fall apart because of the terrible events of late. He then proceeded to steal extra food and alcohol for himself. He believes just like the rest of the terrified Townies that the world is near the end with Roamers leaning on their walls.

Spencer turns out to be a big baby, telling his mom it’s her fault everyone in the town is weak. She made everyone’s life easier, and they loved it, but now that shit hit the fan they wanted tough love? Grow up, boy!

So we have two groups that want to go on a suicide mission to hunt loved ones. Carl’s plan to look for Enid is foiled when Ron (Jessie’s son) says he will snitch on him to save his life. Maggie is determined to look for Glenn and Aaron is going along no matter how much she protests.

We got more medical horror with the worst doctor left in America as she sits and pouts as her patient is dying of an infection. Tara tries to boost her confidence, but they need a Tony Robbins type to get her going. Hopefully, Tony survived the initial apocalypse, but we can’t be sure.

Jessie had the easiest zombie kill ever as she shanked one through the eye with the door cracked open. She then went into a mini Tupac speech about how they have to “Ride or Die.”

Check that….”fight or die.” Either would work, though. Pac had a good message for a normal world or the jacked up one Jessie inhabits.

The Townies start painting names of the fallen on the wall as Aaron and Maggie make their way through a tunnel under the wall and past the half herd. It might have been a good idea to tell the others about the escape tunnel just in case.

These two had the best, yet nastiest scene when they went up against some slimy water logged Walkers. Maggie had a hard time with the kill as she got her arm caught inside the rib cage of the poor bastard that had been underwater for a long time.

Aaron ended up killing both creatures, proving that Maggie did need his help. No one is safe out in the world, no matter how skilled they are at killing. There are dangers at every turn, and it only takes one slip up to get bit.

Our poor excuse for a doctor got a tiny win as she figured out how to remove some of the infection from her remaining patient’s leg. More small successes would help her with bigger issues. Cure a headache, bandage up a finger, etc.

Ron can’t be trusted. He ratted out Carl for his own good according to his story, but he has ulterior motives. He has bad intentions and learning how to shoot from Rick will only make him more dangerous….to Rick.

The big surprise of this week’s Walking Dead was….wait for it…..Maggie is pregnant! Wow….who cares.

This isn’t some played out sitcom that needs a baby infused into the story line to keep viewers interested. What’s a baby going to do?

The same thing Judith does. Nothing. We are interested in the story as it is. No need for this. Sure it makes it sadder that Glenn has been splattered in front of a nasty dumpster, but other than that I don’t look forward to a fat Maggie slowing the group down.

Maybe Daryl gets to name this kid too, and that will be a plus, but other than that I’m out on adding a toddler to the mix.

Anyway, the tunnel is a failure since it’s too close to the Walkers after all. Maggie and Aaron have to turn back. Maggie ends up taking Glenn’s name off the wall. Hope is all she has left of him now.

Deanna is still freaked out and is not the same woman she was when she first appeared on TWD. She has aged 15 years and is now on the brink of a nervous breakdown. She went completely psycho on a Walker Wolf with a broken bottle before Rick finished the thing off.

She knows Rick is the leader needed at the moment. She feels like a failure, yet her vision of a new world could work out in the future. They all just need Rick to make sure they survive long enough to build that world. It will come in stages.

Stage one involves trusting nearly no one, killing any possible threats and never relaxing. Stage 15 will involve Deanna’s best ideas, and they can get back to sipping wine and reading the classics on a front porch.

This episode saw plenty of efforts by Grimes’ group trying to boost the confidence of the Townies. Rosita told Spencer that he saved the town with his shot on the Wolves truck driver that was headed to destroy the walls.

Jessie and Rick found some bliss as they stood on the edge of the end of the world. She’s fully onboard with the sheriff and could wind up being the next pregnant character in a couple of seasons. Maybe by next week the way things were headed in that garage. That’s not a suggestion Scott Gimple.

At the end of the episode, I’m not sure if Deanna fully snapped or if she has come to grips with the reality of monsters being just a few feet away from her town. It looks like the latter as she patted the fence with the silhouette of Walkers as if to say, “I accept you are here, and we will deal with you in this moment.”

There’s only three episodes left so next week will deal with Daryl and his tiny group. I doubt we will see much info on Glenn until the half season finale. And I’m guessing it will only be a hint of his fate.

Maybe he can still be some kind of father to Maggie’s child even if he is a Walker. If Michonne can remove his jaw and arms, he would be rendered pretty harmless even to a baby. His visits would still need to be supervised, though. Let’s not be reckless.

Greg Hardy Gets Ray Rice Back In News

0

greg hardy gets ray rice back in news 2015 nfl imagesDallas Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy and NFL free agent running back Ray Rice both made their (not-so) triumphant returns to our television sets this weekend. Well, in Rice’s case it was actually relatively positive.

The former Baltimore Ravens star is still waiting on his chance to get back to playing, but if he never gets that opportunity, he would like to work with the league in order to spread his story and prevent other players from making the same mistakes as him.

“I totally understand what my visual did and the effect it had on society and the survivors of domestic violence,” said Rice. “So, for me, to never be forgiven…I understand those things, and I totally take full responsibility for my actions. The one thing I can say is…I have made a lifelong decision to raising awareness about this.”

Good to see Rice is getting back on track and trying to encourage people to not screw up the way he did. If only he had gotten to Hardy a little sooner.

The photos from the police investigation into Greg Hardy’s domestic assault case were leaked this past week, and the world was reminded why a picture is worth a thousand words. Hardy didn’t have anything to say about it other than a few tweets about how the past is the past, but the rest of the NFL and sports world had no problem chiming in on the situation.

“I’m a father of three daughters so any man that beats a woman, I think that’s hard for me to swallow, but the Cowboys did make their choice,” said Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett. “They have had a bunch of players before that had a couple things. As a teammate, I’m not sure I would want [Hardy] in the locker room, especially as a distraction when you’re already losing. It’s one of those things that would have to be up to the organization.”

The Cowboys did drop another one Sunday Night to the Philadelphia Eagles in overtime. Hardy was shown on camera an estimated (by me) 47 times during the game.

If nothing else, Jerry Jones needs to cut him, so we don’t have to listen to everyone’s two cents on the situation all week.

One Million Moms Consider Hate A Family Value

0

one million moms consider hate a family value 2015 opinionI remember growing up in Los Angeles. We had nothing. Not a car, not a house; in fact, we lived on top of a dry cleaning business in a studio apartment, and I pulled my twin size bed out of the closet every night. Out of all the things we didn’t have, the resounding constant in me and my brother’s lives was love from our parents. While I may not have gotten that easy bake oven I asked for every year at Christmas; I got as much love as my mom and dad could give us.

Growing up without the material things other kids had sucked. But imagine growing up in foster care where you not only go without your wants, but without your needs. You know, safe living spaces, a blanket to cover yourself at night when it gets cold and the love of adults in your life that no matter what is going on in the world, when you look at them, you know you’re going to be alright. I imagine that any child in that position would not care if the couple who finally adopt them are two gay men of a different race. So why the hell does anyone else give a shit?

Recently, a young black girl named Amaya Scheer and her parents, Rob and Reece Scheer, was featured in an American Girl Magazine article. The writer of the piece focused on Amaya’s experiences in the foster care system, a situation she was in for several years along with her brother (the men adopted him too). She told the magazine about her hobbies and what she, as an 11-year-old girl, liked to do. While most people have been touched and inspired by this harrowing story with a happy ending, One Million Moms (OMM), a watchdog group are not. They have chosen to turn this beautiful tale of loving individuals wanting to change the lives of foster children into an ugly, disgusting and hate filled headline about what they consider to be sin and the deteriorating moral compassion this country is experiencing on its way straight to Hades.

For the record, to hell with people who think that gay and lesbians are not fit to adopt, raise and have children. I am tired of hearing the bogus ass, lame ass, ignorant ass excuses why they believe children are better off in a system that leaves them vulnerable to abuse and mental health issue than in an environment that offers them stability, love and a chance at having a real family. No, having two moms or dads does not mean the child will be gay and by no means, I mean none at all, does it mean that the people seeking to give these children homes have ulterior, sinister motives. Grow the fuck up!

One Million Moms are calling for a boycott of Mattel, the toy company that produces the dolls and the magazine, is like one great big walking Kim Davis/Mike Huckabee monster. They tout their religion on their sleeve instead of allowing their faith, or whatever you want to call it, to show through works that help improve other’s quality of lives.

Yes, OMM is criticizing American Girl for their “poor judgment” in choosing a family that desensitizes “our youth by featuring a family with two dads.” Oh and because homosexuality is “wrong,” they claim, “The magazine also could have chosen another child to write about and remained neutral in the culture war.

How can a group of women who are considered to be the core of all humanity be so heartless? How can they not look at this story and their first response not be, “Thank goodness those children are safe and cared for?” How can they proudly criticize bringing awareness to an American issue that so desperately needs a solution? These people are delusional, and the spewing of their anti-gay conservative agenda is helping no one.

News flash conservative bigots who pick and choose who they deem worthy of a moral pass: there is nothing, you hear me, not one damn thing you can do about homosexuality, gay marriage or anything to do with gay people, in this country. Nothing. Stop criminalizing individuals who are just trying to live their lives and make the world a better place. Stop hating on people (and justifying your hate) who don’t fit into your warped, elitist, good ole boy train of thought.

This group of women, who is an extension of the American Family Association, made no mention of the fact that Rob Scheer started a non-profit organization called Comfort Cases that provides supplies for underprivileged children, specifically foster children. They didn’t mention that the Scheers adopted another sibling duo. As Rob Scheer said,

“It’s about kids in foster care that are carrying trash bags with their belongings.”

This is not about getting on one’s high horse for the sake of hearing yourself speak or needing to check a box on your agenda.

OMM is doing what conservatives and narrow-minded religious zealots do- sensationalizing stories for the purposes of furthering their own twisted program. They want to call American Girl out for trying to “desensitize children” to the reality of homosexuality, but I call them out for wasting our time and insulting our intelligence. There are far more important issues that need the kind of energy they are putting into battering American Girl and its story on the Scheers. If they really are “tired of all the negative influences, our children are forced to contend with” they should reconsider what they are doing because this little hissy fit they are throwing seems pretty negative to me.

Their insensitivity and total neglect for the real point of the story leaves me speechless. To wage an online attack on a publication that brought awareness to an American problem all because two “sinners” are mere players in this story is not very American of them. In fact, it is downright shameful.

Anytime a loving couple that can provide a positive childhood experience to children longing to have the stability of a secure family life have the opportunity to do so; it should not matter who they love.

Could Japan’s ‘Motobot’ turn into Robocop?

0

could japans motobot turn into robocop 2015 tech imagesYamaha, one of Japan’s premier motorcycle producers just came up with Motobot. A motorcycle-riding robot during the recent Tokyo Motor Show. The Motobot is a humanoid looking robot rider that rode an unmodified 1000cc R1M motorcycle. The bike was unmodified except for elevated training wheels on the sides. The purpose of Motobot was to design better safety systems for its motorcycles. But can this robot be applied to other fields such as law enforcement?

Motobot is basically a robot equipped with systems that enable it to ride, balance and control a real motorcycle as humans do. The unit was pre-mounted on the motorcycle and is shaped like a humanoid rider for additional flair. The motorcycle itself is launched during the test and has training wheels as Motobot himself could not walk like Honda’s Asimov, mount the vehicle and ride away. Though its performance as a rider, balancing a large bike and completing a lap around the track was excellent. Many are probably expecting Yamaha to take a page from modern bipedal robotics designs and create a better riding Android in the near future.

But the true purpose of Motobot is not only to demonstrate that Yamaha can create a robot that can ride a motorcycle. Motobot is the modern equivalent of a crash test dummy for motorcycles. An expensive crash test dummy that doesn’t really need to crash but rather take various readings while riding that may not be possible using a real human rider. That’s for those who might ask the question as to why not slap a dozen sensors on a real rider? Yamaha might crash Motobot anyway later in the future to get proper readings on that too. The readings will be used to design various rider-support systems for rider safety.

“We want to apply the fundamental technology, and know-how gained in the process of this challenge to the creation of advanced rider safety and rider-support systems and put them to use in our current businesses, as well as using them to pioneer new lines of business,” –Yamaha

Though successful in the venture, Yamaha feels like it has some long ways to go…

“…The task of controlling the complex motions of a motorcycle at high speeds requires a variety of control systems that must function with a high degree of accuracy…” –Yamaha

But the technology to create a robotic rider has now been proven, and as mentioned, Yamaha might be able to create a full-blown humanoid robotic rider in a few years. One that can mount a bike, and ride away to some unknown destination. Japan has been going all out with Android technology recently, creating humanoid receptionists, waiters and bartenders. Motobot could even be your next mail carrier, messenger or courier by fully taking advantage of GPS and mapping technology and deliver messages and parcels much like Amazon’s drones. In Japan, they like things more respectful and professional and the drone could take a bow before handing over its cargo.

Possible application in law-enforcement may not be far behind too. Look up the film Chappie, where robots are used for law enforcement. With law-enforcement, quick response is a must and giving a Chappie robot the ability to ride a motorcycle can put it in league with Robocop. We’re going a bit over the top here as there’s still some debate regarding autonomous robots and drones acting as cops and soldiers. But robots, under the remote control of a person as with Chappie could save the lives of police officers. They can be used in crowd dispersal, shootouts, and quick bomb disposal as well as search and rescue. The ability to ride a motorcycle should quickly get them to places where they’re needed real quick in lieu of shipping them via van or truck.

But that old premise of using robotics and drones to save actual lives. We’ve heard that one with Terminator, Iron Man 2, Robocop, I Robot and other AI flicks. Hopefully, it doesn’t need to come to that. Even the greatest minds in science like Stephen Hawking warn us not to plunge into that rabbit hole. Motobot simply gives us the possibility of sending a humanoid drone to perform various tasks quickly by having the ability to ride a bike. Delivering parcel, it may be okay to be completely autonomous but when dealing with human lives, someone still needs to be behind the wheel.

The Facebook Vampire

0

facebook vampire 2015 tech imagesWe love vampires but only in movies. We love our iPhones also. We can watch those movies on our phones this Halloween in case we’re on a trip or stream those movies on the iPhone to our TVs. And lastly, we love Facebook as a social media platform. But the iPhone, vampires and Facebook technically don’t mix well.

For me, the best vampire movie so far was Bram Stoker’s Dracula by Francis Ford Coppola. Second to that was Interview with the Vampire starring Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Antonio Banderas. No offense to the late Aaliyah and no pun intended, but the sequel sucked big time. Dracula Untold is also worth watching and the only part of Twilight I liked was the last movie’s big battle. But that’s not what this is really about. While we like vampires in movies, we don’t want them on our iPhones.

We also love our iPhones, these sleek, versatile but costly things have one problem. Limited battery life. They hardly last a day before needing another charge and if you’re someone important to the company, you’ll need to keep it plug in lest you miss something. You might even need a battery pack, abominations that they are. And lastly, we love Facebook, admit it! Even though Facebook is a life-sucking, time-sucking social website. But that’s not its only vampiric aspect. It’s guilty of sucking out your iPhone’s battery life much faster.

If you’ve noticed recently how more often you’re grabbing your charger or battery pack, it may be because of Facebook. If you’re the type that doesn’t slide up an app when you’re finished, Facebook sucks your battery life while it’s supposed to sleep in the background. It’s supposed to be in the background to do constant notification checks so you’ll know what your friends are having for dinner or enjoying a European vacation while you’re stewing in your cubicle. But recently, it’s draining your battery faster than usual. Facebook admitted the problem and of course made a public apology.

Users often attribute Facebook’s bloodsucking as coming from constant notification and GPS location checking. As per Facebook’s engineers, the app was supposed to do so. That it’s not the guilty feature. You may have noticed that videos play automatically if you have a fast connection but has no sound. Unfortunately, this ‘feature’ continues to work even when the app is in the background. Now that’s not good. We all know that video is a terrible battery sucker.

“If you leave the Facebook app after watching a video, the audio session sometimes stays open as if the app was playing audio silently. This is similar to when you close a music app and want to keep listening to the music while you do other things, except in this case it was unintentional and nothing kept playing… The app isn’t actually doing anything while awake in the background, but it does use more battery simply by being awake.”

— Ari Grant, Facebook Engineering Manager

That’s one serious bug. If you know what’s good for you, swipe up your Facebook after using. Another reason is as annoying as little kids in the backseat of the car known as CPU Spin.

“…’CPU spin’ in the app’s network code – which works kind of like a never-ending feedback loop so the app is never really sleeping…A CPU spin is like a child in a car asking, ‘Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?’ with the question not resulting in any progress to reaching the destination… The version released today has some improvements that should start making this better.”

— Ari Grant, Facebook Engineering Manager

It’s great to know they’re working on a fix. Update your app as soon as the update’s available. Blood is the stuff of life and so is your iPhone’s battery. Make it a habit to slide up your apps on your iPhone and Android when no longer in use.

Belfort vs Henderson: MMA Weekly Recap

Outside of two exciting fight cards, this week held a good deal of interesting news for MMA fans to digest. While not all of it was positive, there were some bursts of sunshine in these developments, to say the least. Let’s take a look at what the MMA world had to offer this week!

Edmond Tarverdyan—A Bum?

While the above headline might seem like a bit of an exaggeration, this week’s news has provided a pretty large indication that there might be some truth to the charge. Ronda Rousey’s longtime coach, Edmond Tarverdyan, filed for bankruptcy earlier this year (although the news was just now revealed), citing over $700,000 in debts! While some fans are quick to jump on those encountering hard times in the MMA world, these same fans may be very correct in jumping here; to amass such a debt while coaching the most profitable fighter in the UFC really is ridiculous—to the point of being almost difficult to achieve. Fans can reach their own conclusions, of course, but it appears as though Ronda Rousey’s mother—who came off (according to some) as a bit too harsh in her criticism of Tarverdyan prior to this story being released—may have been correct.

The NSAC (Partially) Caves

Many fans were happy to hear that the large movement from the MMA (and non-MMA) community in voicing their disproval of the Nick Diaz suspension paid off. The NSAC and Diaz’s team are actively engaged in talks that could reduce his original suspension to one holding a sixteen-month competition hold and a $100,000 fine. While this is certainly better than the original sentencing, a minority of fans (myself included) were still upset with this “negotiated” verdict. Sixteen months and one hundred grand are nothing to scoff at—certainly too much for a violation of this nature. Nevertheless, this is a (partial) step in the right direction.

Two MMA Veterans Retire

The week also featured the retirement of two solid MMA competitors, in Bellator vet Brett Cooper and UFC veteran Alan Belcher. Belcher last competed against Michael Bisping at UFC 159 in April of 2013, losing a (coincidentally enough, as Bisping would later require eye surgery as well) Unanimous Technical Decision in the third round after suffering a debilitating eye poke. “The Talent” retires with a 9-6 UFC record, and fans won’t be forgetting his well-composed, first-round triumph over Rousimar Palhares anytime soon.

Bellator veteran Brett Cooper also retired this week, on the heels of a first-round loss to fellow Bellator veteran Maiquel Falcao. During his time with Bellator (and even after his departure), “Fudoshin” fought some of the best around. Fans won’t soon forget his tough-nailed second encounter with Alexander Shlemenko, nor his second-round finish over Kendall Grove. Still under thirty years of age, the future looks bright for Cooper, both in the sport of MMA and otherwise.

The Injury Bug Strikes, but is Unable to Ruin a Fight

The injury bug struck yet again inside the UFC, as Matt Brown was forced to withdraw from his scheduled main event tilt against Kelvin Gastelum at The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 2 Finale on November 21st, and was replaced by Neil Many. A bout that is this close to Thanksgiving and scheduled to go down outside of the US is a tall order for any athlete on under one month’s notice, but Magny even OK’d the main event continuing forward with the originally scheduled five-round duration; talk about a tough (and company-minded) athlete! This is a best-case replacement for the fans, as well as Gastelum, as this newly scheduled fight rivals the quality of the Matt Brown bout. By taking this fight, Magny will tie former UFC fighter Roger Huerta for the most Octagon appearances in a year, with five fights.

Bellator 145: Vengeance Delivers Solid Fights, Interesting Announcements

Bellator 145: Vengeance delivered some solid action for fans attending live in St. Louis, Missouri, as well as every fan watching live on television. Although, outside of the initial main-card bout between two up-and-coming prospects in Justin Lawrence vs. Emmanuel Sanchez there weren’t any major upsets, the fights were largely competitive and interesting. Certainly, the main event stole the show, as Daniel Strauss defeated Patricio Freire to secure the Bellator Featherweight Championship in an absolutely thrilling affair. With that victory, Strauss has cemented an ultra-interesting circle of top-level featherweights vying for the belt, in him, Pat Curran, and Freire. It will be interesting to see who fights for the title next, to say the least.

The event also featured some interesting (undeniably, these announcements piqued the interest of fans; whether or not this was a good thing will depend on who one speaks to!) announcements about Rizin, as well as a future tent-pole Bellator event.

The largest surprise and takeaway from these announcements is that Bellator will pit Kimbo Slice against Dhafir Harris (Dada 5000) in the co-main event of a February 19th event in Houston while Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie will clash in the main event. At the time of the bout, the two main-event competitors will hold a combined age of over one hundred years!

Many fans were angry, many were intrigued, and many typically casual fans were alerted—perhaps justifying the announcements. While most fans are, at the very least, curious about the results here, the promotion will need to really stack the rest of the card with solid, top-level matches (much like the fights that Vengeance supported) to truly interest hardcore fans. However the rest of the card fills out, the fact remains that the action will be live and free—it really is hard to complain about for that price!

UFC Fight Night 77: Belfort vs Henderson 3 Goes-Off as Expected

The UFC delivered a solid card this weekend, headlined by a rubber match between longtime veterans Dan Henderson and Vitor Belfort. Much like the Bellator 145 card, the event featured solid fights that were more competitive than the final results would indicate—with minimal upsets, similarly. In fact, the only upset on the televised preliminary and main card portions of the event came when Clay Guida was defeated by Thiago Tavares via first-round submission.

The largest takeaways from the event were likely just how dangerous Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira is, the legitimacy (and ever-improving nature of) Thomas Almeida, and the still-dangerous strikes of Vitor Belfort. Certainly, these weren’t the only things that stood out during the event, but they were perhaps the most noticeable.

The fights and news were solid for MMA fans this week, and the upcoming events indicate that the fights, at the very least, will be solid in the near future. The UFC returns next on November 15th (Saturday night in the US) with UFC 193: Rousey vs. Holm. Bellator will hold its next show on November 20th as Hisaki Kato competes against Melvin Manhoef. The World Series of Fighting will hold its heavily anticipated eight-man, one-night lightweight tournament at WSOF 25, also on November the 20th (fans will need to be quick to switch channels!). More immediately, ONE Championship will hold its Pride of Lions event on Friday the 13th, featuring an anticipated rematch between welterweight champ Ben Askren and Luis Santos. Finally, as usual, AXS TV will deliver some outstanding live and free MMA action, as Legacy Fighting Championships 48 takes goes down in Louisiana (also on the 13th).

There’s a lot to look forward to here for MMA fans; enjoy the fights!

Lionel Messi unlikely to be fit for the season’s first El Clasico

0

lionel messi unlikely to be fit for el clasico 2015 soccer imagesLionel Messi is losing the fitness battle to face the league leaders, Real Madrid. In the 2015/16 season’s first El Clasico, Barcelona will be without their best player and the whole responsibility in the attack will be on the attacking duo of Neymar and Luis Suarez.

Messi suffered a knee ligament injury in the 2 – 1 victory over Las Palmas in September. The four-time Ballon d’Or winner was initially ruled out for two months, but he hasn’t resumed training till now. Barcelona’s clash against Rafa Benitez’s men on November 21 will be the first big test of the season for both the teams and the odds are stacked against Barca.

The former head of medical services at Barcelona Jordi Ardevol told Goal: “He will only be able to be on the pitch if he takes part in some entire training sessions. We need to be careful and if he is not accomplishing the minimum [medical] requests, the best thing to do is not play because he could easily relapse on his injury.”

Luis Enrique isn’t expecting his best player to return any time soon and hasn’t set any particular date. He said: “There is no set recovery date for Messi. The most important thing for him is to be 100 per cent fit again. It does not matter when he returns. The season is still long.”

Messi will also miss the World Cup qualification matches against Brazil and Colombia in mid-November.

The Brazilian forward and the Uruguayan have stepped up in absence of the Argentine genius. Neymar, 23, has netted 15 goals in as many appearances in all competitions for club and country this season. The former Liverpool striker, Luis Suarez, has scored 12 goals in 13 appearances. Neymar is at the top of the goal scorers chart in the La Liga with nine goals, while Suarez has taken the second spot. The usual suspect – Cristiano Ronaldo – isn’t much farther from the top and is level with Suarez and Real Sociedad’s Imanol Agirretxe, both on eight goals.

The Catalan giants have lost two matches out of ten while Real Madrid has drawn thrice in the league so far. Both these Spanish giants have accumulated 24 points each, but Los Blancos are ahead of their fierce rivals on goal difference. The former La Liga champions, Atletico Madrid, are four points behind the top two and are fourth in the league while Celta Vigo have currently occupied the third spot on the table with 21 points.
