More relationship issues continue on this episode of “The Big Bang Theory,” Howard and Raj came to kidnap Leonard for his bachelor party. They said they were taking him to a surprise location for the weekend. Sheldon then found out Howard borrowed a van from a scientist that Sheldon was obsessed with. Howard said they were going to Mexico and staying in the scientist’s beach house.

Amy came to Penny’s apartment and brought cookies shaped like male genitals. She asked Penny how married life was and she said it was good but she wanted her and Leonard to live together. Amy said she might pierce her ears now that she and Sheldon have broken up. Penny offered to pierce Amy’s ears at home. After she did it, Amy said she was pleased with the results.

On the way to Mexico one of the tires blew out on the van. Bernadette mentioned that Amy hadn’t yet changed her relationship status on social media. Bernadette asked Penny if she had done so and she said she hadn’t because her family didn’t know she and Leonard got married. Amy said she hadn’t yet told her mom she and Sheldon broke up. Penny then said she was calling her parents to tell them she got married. When she told her dad he said he was happy for her and he understood maybe telling them that was hard for Penny. Her dad then said he accidentally backed over Penny’s pet pig and killed him.

Amy then called her mother and told her she and Sheldon broke up. Penny grabbed the phone and told Amy’s mom about the breakup and that Amy brought her penis shaped cookies.

Howard tried to fix the tire and Raj stepped in to help. Leonard and Sheldon tried to help too. They determined they needed to find something to use as a lever, because the tires were stuck in the mud. Eventually Leonard got hold of a lever and they went to work on the tire. They set a tortilla chip on fire to try and unearth the tire from the ground. Sheldon gathered rust and aluminum to use to fix the problem with the tire. Howard accidentally set the van on fire.

When they got back early, Penny asked Leonard and Sheldon what happened to them. Sheldon said they blew up a van and Leonard said he had spent the night in Mexico with Sheldon. Penny decided that topped her dad killing her pet pig.

Among those returning from suspension is Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Greg Hardy, who has missed every game since the beginning of last season with the Carolina Panthers over a domestic violence incident.

“In the last two seasons, it’s been a blur,” said Hardy when asked about his return to the game. “Now that I’m back, I don’t reminisce. I don’t look back. I need to get to progress. I hope I come out guns blazing…I’m very excited to get out there and see what I can do.”

Hardy isn’t coming back into the best situation in Dallas. Tony Romo and Dez Bryant are both out for multiple more weeks, Lance Dunbar now has a torn ACL, Sean Lee is concussed, and the team as a whole just can’t seem to catch a break.

Despite all the issues, and the reports of locker room altercations with teammates when he originally arrived in Texas, Hardy wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

“I hope it lasts 12 years,” said Hardy when reminded that he only has 12 games left on his contract with the Cowboys. “I feel like this is the most awesome period of my life. I’m a Dallas Cowboy.”

That’s not an easy gig to land, and it’s definitely not something to take for granted. After all, Terrell Owens has been trying to say that again since he left the team.

Nonetheless, Hardy will be tested right off the bat when the Cowboys meet the New England Patriots and Tom Brady this Sunday. Surprisingly, Hardy isn’t worried about the rust a normal player would have after sitting out 19 games.

In fact, when asked how he sees the upcoming return against Brady, Hardy touted back, “The same way I did last time I saw him, hopefully on the ground.”

But sacking Brady isn’t the only thing Hardy likes about the reigning Super Bowl MVP.

“I love seeing Tom Brady. You seen his wife? I hope she comes to the game. I hope her sister comes to the game.”

If Hardy’s history with women is an indicator, Brady should probably warn Gisele and her siblings to keep her distance.

The media outlet reported that the usually extravagant star was notably dressed down, missing her entourage and much more at ease than she has been in previous interviews.

E! News said that the interview was much more of an interview with New York native Stefani, rather than her alter-ego international pop-star Lady Gaga.

Right away, Gaga opened up and revealed that she is feeling a lot more “normal” and vulnerable; thanks to the relationships she has formed on set of AHS and with its creator, Ryan Murphy. In the interview, Gaga deems Murphy her “soul mate,” even though she is engaged to actor and model Taylor Kinney.

Gaga went on to explain her former experiences with fame, saying, “I do know isolation because I’m famous and it’s hard to go be normal all the time. And when you meet people in public, 99 percent of the time, people aren’t that interested in getting to know me. There’s sort of a wall between us that they think something of me that I’m not. I’m really just a human being that makes this…stuff.”

Gaga went on to explain how grateful she is for the people she has met on set of the FX series. She said, “I’m happier than I’ve ever been now, because the people that I work with really, really care that my life is different and really, really work to make sure that I feel as normal as possible- so that I can have a great time and just be a normal girl, and just be a woman for Ryan on film….”

Gaga will be featured as The Countess on the new season of AHS. Her character is a 100-year-old woman who is a hemophiliac. Early reviewers of the show have already been impressed with Gaga’s portrayal of the role and say she “slays” in the first episode.

However in a new interview with DailyMail.com, Chelsea claims that she didn’t run away in August, rather Rosie kicked her out of the house.

Chelsea commented on her mother saying, “I find [Rosie] not genuine a lot of the time. When we’d go out, she was a completely different person in public than at home and I had a hard time with that. It’s like two different people.”

She went on to reveal, “[Rosie] would drink beer when we were growing up but after her heart attack she couldn’t. Now I think she drinks wine…I mean, she smokes weed – not around us – but the whole house smells like it.”

Chelsea revealed the dynamic between her and Rosie got worse when she split from her wife, Kelli Carpenter.

Regarding the August incident, Chelsea claimed that her mother told her “to leave and take [her] dog.” Going on to say, “Rosie said that I was almost 18, and she got all this crap from work, and she didn’t want to have to deal with that at home too.”

After Rosie announced Chelsea was missing in August, she claimed that her daughter was suffering from a mental illness. However, Chelsea told the DailyMail.com that this claim was “really hurtful” and inaccurate.

That’s how ingrained speech recognition was in the future in getting computers to get things done. In the future, interfacing with computers wasn’t done through the GUI but by talking to them. We’ve been fascinated with talking to computers since the 1960s in Star Trek. We’ve seen plenty of other futurist movies and TV shows where people talk to computers all the time and a mouse is nowhere to be seen. It’s because no ordinary person would want to be subjected to the keyboard and the command line especially back then. Talking to computers was the next best thing. But the mouse seems to have overtaken us at some point and everyone got obsessed with grids of icons and overlapping screens. Now, icons and screens seem dated and have taken a toll at our eyes and it also happens that not everyone can actually use the GUI or graphical user interface. The real thing, the true user-friendly way everyone can interact with computers and other machines is by voice and language recognition. We have one foot at the door. Let’s see what else is behind it.

At this point, we seem to have reached an impasse with regards to the GUI to the point that we’re just switching things around and redesigning icons, menus, screens and borders. Windows went from flat to a 3D look, then to glossy and then back to flat again. iOS followed suit. With Linux and Android, there’s a plethora of styles to choose from. When it comes to Windows, we may have seen it all and when Microsoft said that 10 is the last version, they may have the same thought. But what the GUI did was to improve our relationship with computers. It eased the ordinary person and even the technophobes into the realm of computing. The GUI however was not for everyone as the blind can’t see it nor can paraplegics manipulate it.

Again, the next logical step wherein everyone, including the blind and paraplegics, can interact with computers and devices is by voice. Voice recognition technology has been around for quite some time so when Siri came out on the iPhone 4S, it seemed like a novelty as voice recognition for the consumer back then was clunky at best and with a very limited vocabulary. The best ones were very expensive and required training the system. But the Siri demos were quite convincing and most of the time, Siri could get things right as long as the sentence was simple enough. Ask Siri for the time, ask Siri for the weather, ask Siri what’s next in the schedule and ask Siri for the nearest restaurant. Siri has the answer. Ask Siri for something more complex, she’ll come up with a web search. Ask Siri for something unconventional, she’ll respond with a witty joke or sarcasm. Siri is as close as we got to conversational interaction with a computer. Thanks to Siri, we became one step closer to actually talking to our devices. As Siri took off, it started a race for the best intelligent personal assistant. Microsoft now has Cortana on its Windows Phone and Windows 10 operating systems. Cortana is as intelligent and witty as Siri. Google has Google Now, Amazon Echo has Alexa (a sexier name than Siri or Cortana) and Facebook will soon have M.

But what would make the best intelligent personal assistant? One that can properly recognize its owner’s speech patterns and understand more complex sentences. Most people have a quirk in their speech which often elicits the question, “Come again?” These quirks, like their accent, speech impediments and other factors like background noise can sometimes mess up even the simplest of queries or sentences often due to misspelling of what the computer ‘heard’. Conditions like rhotacism can be a problem. So if something like, “Siwi, pwease show me to the neawest westawant,”doesn’t translate to launching a nuclear warhead, we’re okay. Improving on speech quirks is the next step to really allow users to communicate to computers by voice.  Another is improved understanding of what was said or context. And another is the ability to cascade or understand successive queries or sentences which is closer to actual conversation. Hound, by Soundhound Inc. has been relatively successful in these areas. Hound can determine whether the next statement by the user is related to the previous query. So complex questions such as which car dealer in New York offers the newest Chevy Camaro at the lowest interest rate can be answered through successive mini questions. Hound is currently available on Android as an alternative to Google Now. It wouldn’t be a far-fetched idea for either Apple or Microsoft to purchase Soundhound and apply the technology for Siri or Cortana. The first to do so would be one significant step above the other.

As we move forward to the Internet of Things (currently the turf of Alexa of Amazon’s Echo), speech recognition technology becomes more important since attaching keypads to a toaster or coffee maker would be rather awkward. With Echo, users can tell Alexa to turn the lights on or off, set the thermostat, among other things. Like the Jetsons’ Rosie except less mobile with Siri already in charge of the TV. Cortana controlling the shower’s water temperature would probably complete the home of the wealthy nerdy bachelor.

But seriously, with or without Soundhound, Apple is already working on improving Siri and Microsoft is doing the same with Cortana. Nest and Amazon’s echo proves that IoT is upon us. Google and Apple are also close to releasing their respective driverless cars; and they better understand their drivers correctly or hit the town fountain in case of drivers like Sylvester Stallone. The next decade should be interesting.

Just what the doctor ordered for many teams. Here are a few of the key players who will be seeing their first minutes of the season this week:

Greg Hardy & Rolando McClain—Yeah, two of the Dallas Cowboys best defensive players were serving suspensions while their two best offensive players were recovering from injury. Hardy and McClain couldn’t have picked a better time either. Half of the Cowboys roster seems to be recuperating from something, and Sean Lee has a concussion, so the return of one of the top pass rushers in the league and a commanding linebacker should be just what the Cowboys need to…well, not lose to teams like the New Orleans Saints.

Sheldon Richardson—Richardson is still dealing with that whole resisting arrest and child endangerment thing, but unless the NFL says otherwise he is eligible to take the field this week. Saying that Richardson is an immediate improvement to a New York Jets defense which has already been relatively scary is an understatement. Tom Brady better get ready.

Martavis Bryant—Y’all didn’t forget about Antonio Brown’s little brother, did you? The Pittsburgh Steelers speedster couldn’t have picked a better time to come back (well, unless not getting suspended counts as an option…) with Michael Vick taking the reins at quarterback for the injured Ben Roethlisberger. Bryant was on the verge of becoming a top-tier receiver last season, so hopefully he can help Vick rather than be hindered by him.

Antonio Gates—Somewhere Philip Rivers is crying with joy at the thought of having his old buddy back on the field with him. Stevie Johnson is having hamstring issues and Malcolm Floyd has a concussion from this past Sunday, so Gates is another player that couldn’t have had better timing. Rivers desperately needs his go-to tight end back on the field, and assuming Gates still has it in him, it isn’t too late for the Chargers to bounce back from a sloppy 2-2 start.

That’s what’s happening with a textbook written and published by Mcgraw-Hill. A Texas mother called them out about whitewashing the realities of slavery by renaming it something far less offensive while making it all the more wrong.

In her son’s world geography textbook, African slaves are called “workers” and “immigrants,” language that is both unsettling and untrue. Are you f-ing kidding me right now?

No matter how you look at this situation, that is exactly what is being done. My question still remains…why? No one can go back and change it, and we have definitely come a long way so why not tell the narrative from that angle?

Calling Africans brought to America via the slave trade to work on white plantations workers implies that they got paid for the labor in which they toiled. It implies that they had access to a certain group of rights that enabled them to have what every other person living in America had. The word worker garners the notion of adequate working conditions, adequate pay and adequate respect for the work that they did.

It implies that they believed that America would be better for them than staying in their native tribe on the motherland, and thus they willingly left all that they knew to make a new white washed land their home.

You see, whatever it is that McGraw-Hill meant or was trying to say in the verbiage they chose to use in these text books is wrong. They cannot take away what was done to black people for hundreds of years.

The thing about renaming; therefore, in a way redefining something as important in our history as slavery is that it is positioned in the minds of those learning it as something that “wasn’t so bad.” Children are impressionable and they take what adults and books say and create something that their minds can understand. Calling African slaves immigrant workers is putting a white washed veil on a time in our country that is shameful and ugly.

It makes it okay to children what happened to slaves in America. It is less threating and, therefore, is framed as an event in our history that was necessary to the survival of our new nation. Because the “workers” wanted to be here and saw it best to work for the white man and move his family on his master’s land so it would be easier to get to and from their jobs. Bull shit.

The whitewashing of African American’s history in the United States is just as bad as the blatant racism that white people still openly display. Just recently a white man named Gerod Roth posted a selife to his Facebook page of himself and a little black boy who happened to be the child of a co-worker. The comments made by his friends on the picture are purely upsetting and filled with privilege.

“I didn’t know you were a slave owner.”

“Help feed this pour child today.”

“But Massuh, I dindu nuffin.”

Who the hell says these things about a child? The fact these individuals felt it was okay to say these things is disgusting, and shows that white washing and privilege is alive in well. To them, it was joking and having a laugh. To the mother of the child, millions of others and myself it was degrading, unbelievable and enraging.

Is this the result of white washing in America? Children are taught that slaves willingly gave their lives away and white folks on social media calling a black child feral? There is a connection here.

These things are not okay. Did you hear me? They are not okay! McGraw-Hill said it believes they can do better, and they are making edits to the textbook for the next printing, as well as updating the online version of the book immediately. But that isn’t good enough. They honestly should recall all the books and replace them. Drastic measures? Yes. But running the risk of children of all races, backgrounds and ethnicities being taught a white washed lesson about slavery and conducting their lives as such is a greater risk.

How often do people in the spotlight actually live by the morals in which they have? Well I guess all the time if they don’t have any, but what about the ones that do?

Singer Omarion definitely knows how to follow the moral compass he has set for himself. He recently took a stand against a London nightclub who refused to let some black people in because they were “too dark.”

The story goes, a young lady and four of her friends tried to get into the DSTRKT club back in September and she was told by the promoter that she and her friends were “too dark” and some of them are “overweight.” She took to social media and of course the situation got some attention. Well fast forward to Friday October 2 when Omarion was slated to perform at the club but canceled because of what happened.

“I will not be attending #DSTRKTLondon tonight period.”

Way to go O. People are calling for black folks to boycott the club and honestly, I don’t blame them. What they did is not only offensive and wrong, it is a clear indication of the way in which other raceS view black people. “Too dark” are you fucking kidding me?

Omarion is a major hero for standing up and pulling out of his appearance/show. Hopefully more people will follow suit with his example (although Karrueche Tran still made an appearance at the club after the incident).

Can other celebs please get onboard and understand that money is not everything.

And just when you thought she could not get any worse, she and her followers have stooped even lower.

Davis recently said that she had a personal private meeting with the Pope during is visit to the U.S. In her comments she mentioned how happy she was to have the Holy Father’s validation and that she knows she has made and continues to make the right decision.

But what she says happened and what the Vatican and other persons involved in the situation are saying happened are not the same. In a statement released by a Vatican spokesperson, they are pretty much saying that no such private meeting took place. Davis and her husband were invited by the Apostolic Nunciatrue in DC along with “several dozen persons who had been invited by the Nunciature to greet Pope Francis as he prepared to leave Washington for New York City.” Hmmm, you don’t say?

The statement further says that Pope Francis met privately ONLY with a former student of his, who happens to be gay, and his partner.

This kind of spinning by Kim Davis and her supporters is the very reason why it is hard to believe in anything she says. Her arrogance masked by humble mumblings is not too hard to see when you look at the situation for what it is. And the thing that gets me and probably a lot of people is her, “I’m just a nobody…it was really humbling to think he would want to meet and know me.” Please just cut the crap!

Now, while it is true that Davis’ lawyer has been behind a lot of the asserting of what went on in the meeting, it just goes to show that what they are doing is not about standing for something that they believe is right. It is about fame, money and keeping this “15 minutes” for as long as they can. They are opportunists.

Also, their boasting about the Pope showing his support about her decision to deny gay couples marriage licenses in the Kentucky county in which she is a clerk is propaganda. We all know the Pope is a nice guy and his people made it also clear in their statement as well.

“Such brief greetings occur on all papal visits and are due to the Pope’s characteristic kindness.”

I just love the way they word things.

Roma registered an emphatic 4-2 win over Palermo on Sunday, courtesy of a strike each from Miralem Pjanic and Alessandro Florenzi and a brace from Gervinho. The win has moved the Italian capital outfit to fourth in the standings as rumours rise of Carlo Ancelotti taking charge of the club from Rudi Garcia.

A late goal from Massimo Maccarone was enough to hand Empoli a 1-0 win over Sassuolo.

The evergreen Antonio Di Natale had put Udinese ahead in the 47th minute of their clash against Genoa, but they won a penalty that was duly converted by Diego Perotti in the 76th minute to salvage a point. Udinese are now 14th, while Genoa dwell in 15th in the league table.

Alvaro Morata, Paulo Dybala and Sami Khedira were on the scoresheet as reigning Italian champions and 2015 Champions League finalists Juventus finally looked like they are coming into their own in the league as they registered a convincing 3-1 win over Bologna.

They have been thoroughly convincing in the Champions League, having registered wins over Premier League table toppers Manchester City and reigning Europa League champions Sevilla, but were struggling in the domestic league. Massimiliano Allegri will hope that their result against Bologna turns out to be a harbinger of good things to come in the season as they attempt to secure their fifth successive Scudetto and make another deep run in the elite European competition.

The Old Lady are now 12th in the league table, while Bologna are rock bottom with just three points from their first eight league games.

Keita Balde Diao and Filip Djordjevic struck a goal apiece for Lazio to hand them all three points against newly promoted Frosinone. The win lifts Lazio to third, while Frosinone slip to 19th.

Lorenzo Insigne was in inspired form for Napoli as he grabbed a brace against AC Milan, while Allan gave an early lead to the Partenopei and Rodrigo Ely’s own goal completed a humiliating 4-0 loss for the Rossoneri at the San Siro. The loss has seen Milan down to 11th, while Napoli now move to sixth.

Josip Ilicic, Borja Valero and Verdu scored once each to help Fiorentina to a 3-0 win over Atalanta that has moved La Viola to the top of the Serie A standings.

amber rose slut walk goes deep for womenThere is something about owning the very thing that people refuse to you forget. For some of us, it’s our weight. For others it’s our behavior. For Amber Rose, it is her past and she is no longer allowing people to hold her to it.

Amber Rose’s Slut Walk was not about deviant behavior or fighting for the right to, ya know, be a slut (well kind of). It was about standing up to a society that has allowed a culture of sexual misconduct that puts the blame on the victim. It was about standing with women who’s past is kind of shady and no one will let them live it down. It was about embracing a woman’s right to be whoever the hell she wants to be on her terms and by her definition.

I have to really hand it to Amber Rose. She is using her fame and connections to do more than get ahead (or another famous baby daddy) and that is commendable. One thing about me, I give props where props are due, regardless if I have shared a less than favorable opinion about you in the past.

A lot of people are getting it wrong when describing what the event was about. The name can probably be misleading to some but that’s when looking past the surface and seeing the deeper meaning in things comes into play. Rooted in the notion that “sluts are women too” (What a motto!), it was a special time.

Although Saturday’s event was not the first of its kind, it was the first to be heavily backed by a celebrity’s name. Amber Rose’s Slut Walk is actually an international movement started by Sonya Barnett and Heather Jarvis who didn’t like the fact that a Toronto police officer, while speaking at a university about campus rape, actually said, “…women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized.” And therein lies one of the founding principles of the walk.

Amber is really the perfect person to do this for many reasons and her realization of that is what made it happen. She is no stranger to being called a bitch, a slut, a whore and more and many times she has been publicly shamed for her past as a stripper and video girl.  She shared how she has been “slut shamed” since the age of 14 and how she really felt when her ex-husband Wiz Kahlifa writing a song about her saying she’s “nothing but a stripper.”

“He went on to make a song saying that he ‘fell in love with a stripper, but fell out of love quicker’…As you can imagine, him being the love of my life, regardless of us going through a separation or not, it was extremely hurtful.”

amber rose slut walk deep 2015 imagsShe also said she’s moving on from her ex-boyfriend Kanye West (who said he had to take 30 showers after being with her) and his hurtful comments.

“”I want to forgive Kanye about what he said about me. I want to let all of that negativity go.”

At the event, she spoke about what she has gone through and gave a tear filled speech about the fact that her past has nothing to do with the kind of mother she is or the fact that she deserves to be treated with respect.

The walk was definitely a cathartic moment for Rose seeing so many people come out and support the movement.

The rally was more of an empowerment affair than anything else. Her mother Dorothy was there as well holding a sign that said, “Fuck yo 30 showers” and a shirt with this quote,

“Just because I’m a sexual being doesn’t mean I want to have sex with you.”

You never know what kind of healing people really need. Sometimes the facades that that people put up have to come down and all it takes is giving back to others what you yourself need to find that place of peace.

It is not every day that someone with Amber’s past and present does something this deep and open for others who have experienced what she’s experienced. The slut walk is not a walk of shame but a walk of freedom, declaration and hope. And I am here for it.

THE VOICE 905 Ready For Battle Bots

the voice blind 905 recap 2015 imagesIt was the fifth and final round of blind auditions for season 9 of The Voice. This season’s coaches – Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton, Pharrell Williams and Adam Levine – finished recruiting and finalized their teams for next week’s battle rounds.

Of course, the episode started with Adam saying that this year’s talent is better than ever before; A comment that the show gets at least one of the coaches to say at the beginning of each season.

Since the show packed in some real contenders in the last 2 hours of blind auditions, here is a recap of some of the most notable performances of the night:

  1. Dustin Christensen

“Downtown Train” by Tom Waits

Four chairs turned – ended up on Team Blake

35-year-old Utah native Dustin Christensen was the first audition of the night. He definitely started things out with a bang, as he navigated his vocals perfectly throughout his audition. He has a particularly soulful voice that was undoubtedly appealing to all four coaches. Several of the judges pointed out that Dustin’s voice had a lot of similarities to Neil Diamond, which is something they haven’t really had on The Voice so far.

Blake tries to win Dustin over by pointing out they are both “jeans and boots” guys, which is a tactic that Blake has resorted to on numerous occasions. Ultimately, Blake wins Dustin over.

This means that Blake only has one more spot on his team.

  1. Dustin Monk

“Bright Lights” by Gary Clark Jr

Two chairs turned – ended up on Team Adam

Dustin grew up with his single mom in a small town in Georgia. Unfortunately, after a back injury his mother got addicted to prescription pain meds. Although she was able to recover, Dustin vowed to never drink or do drugs. While his vow is admirable, I am not sure he needed to get a “Drug Free” tattoo sprawled across his neck.

Nonetheless, at 19-years-old Dustin moved to Jacksonville and joined a pop-punk bank ironically called “We Still Drink.” He ended up splitting from the band and getting a job as a barber. However, he has always wanted to pursue music and that is how he ended up at The Voice auditions.

Dustin’s audition starts off relatively slow, but it is clear he has a strong rock-oriented voice. About halfway in, he began hitting high notes and that’s when he got the attention of both Adam and Blake.

  1. Chase Kerby

“The Scientist” by Coldplay

One chair turned – ended up on Team Gwen

Chase Kerby is a 30-year-old musician who works at his family-owned candy store. Although he loves working with his parents, his true passion is music. He has already been in 3 bands, one of which opened for the All American Rejects.

Chase’s soft voice is the perfect match for his audition song, and Adam even complements his song choice. While his audition was tame throughout, he did have impressive control and was still able to showcase his range.

  1. Shelby Brown

“Stars” by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

Four chairs turned – ended up on Team Adam

16-year-old Shelby Brown is from Elberta, Albama, which is a small town with about 2000 people in it. Shelby goes into the audition saying she is hoping to get on Blake’s team.

Once Shelby starts singing, it is clear she a front-runner in the competition. Her voice is incredibly mature-sounding and polished. The second she begins belting the chorus of her song, all four judges turn. Although Shelby sings country, some of her vocal qualities reminded me of Adele.

Her talent had all four of the judges in a fierce battle, trying to convince her to join their team. She tells Gwen that she “is a country singer,” which Adam quickly responds, “but you like other things too” in attempt to keep her away from his fellow judge and in-house country legend, Blake Shelton.

Surprisingly, Adam is able to sway Shelby and she ends up choosing him as her mentor. At this point, Adam’s team is officially full.

“Dream a Little Dream of Me” by Doris Day

Three chairs turned – ended up on Team Pharrell

Amy is a 26-year-old musician and painter living in New York. Her soft, folk-like vocals are definitely unique and it will be interesting to see her take on songs with faster tempos. She ends up getting all of the judges (who still have room on their teams) to turn their chair.

  1. Blaine Mitchell

“Drops of Jupiter” by Train

Two chairs turned – ended up on Team Blake

Blaine Mitchell is a 24-year-old from Fortworth, Texas. Although he grew up surrounded by country music, his true passion lies with alternative rock. Blaine was able to bring his own artistry to the popular Train song. Even though he leans more towards the alternative rock genre, he still has a noticeable country twang to his voice.

Unsurprisingly, Blake plays up the fact that Blaine is from Texas and ultimately is able to win him over to his team. Therefore, Blaine fills out Blake’s team as we enter the battle rounds.

  1. Summer Schapell

“Strawberry Wine” by Deana Carter

Two chairs turned – ended up on Team Gwen

Summer has already established herself as singer. She recorded her first album at 14 and even opened for such acts as Little Big Town and LeAnn Rimes.

Unfortunately, Blake’s team is already full, as Summer seems like the perfect complement to his country roster. However, her voice is crystal clear and is able to garner the attention of both Pharrell and Gwen.

Ultimately, she grabs the last spot on Team Gwen.

  1. Sydney Rhame

“Photograph” by Ed Sheeran

One chair turned – ended up on Team Pharrell

16-year-old Atlanta native Sydney Rhame first started singing in front of an audience at age 8. Currently, she teaches kids guitar to save money for college.

The young singer acts much older than she truly is and this follows into her singing voice. Her voice is incredibly precise and she was able to showcase her impressive lower and upper registers. Unsurprisingly, Pharrell gives her the last spot on his team. I think Sydney will definitely be one to watch as the season progresses.

Tomorrow night will be the recap episode of the 5 rounds of blind auditions. You can catch it on NBC at 8/7c.

Next week, the battle rounds will begin, where teammates will be pitted up against each other in attempt to win a spot in the knockout and live rounds.
