LAW & ORDER: SVU Ep 1620: System of Perverted Justice

On this week’s episode of Law & Order: SVU, Noah had a dedication ceremony at a church. One of the women, Michelle, in the church where the christening was held confessed to the priest that her father, Derek, was in prison because she had lied to the cops. Michelle then went to the prison where Derek was being held. She confessed to him that she had told the police he never raped her after all, which is what he was in prison for.

Olivia showed pictured of Noah’s dedication to her priest and told him that if everything went well she would be done adopting Noah within one month. The two talked about Michelle’s case and Olivia found out her mother pressured Michelle to accuse her father of raping her when he didn’t. Olivia was asked to investigate the case.

Olivia briefed the detectives on the case and said that they were reopening it. Olivia met with Cragen about the case. Michelle then told Olivia what had happened surrounding the allegations. She said her mom, Audrey and dad, Derek, were screaming at each other the night her mom told her to accuse her dad of rape. Michelle told Olivia that her mom put it into her head that Derek molested her, to the point where Michelle agreed to say that he did.

Sonny then went to talk to Michelle’s mom. The woman said Michelle and her brother were messed up because of Derek. Derek told the detectives that the police in the case had convinced him he molested his daughter.

Olivia went to talk to one of the detectives that were a part of the original court case. Sonny and Rollins went to talk to the lawyer that argued the case and found out she was no longer practicing law.

A hearing was scheduled to determine whether or not Derek could still be legally held in prison now that Michelle confessed she had been pressured to lie. Just before the hearing was scheduled to start the judge presiding over it was changed. The judge said he thought the appeal was only connected to Michelle recanting her claim that Derek molested her 20 years ago. He then denied the motion and sent Derek back to prison. Michelle profusely apologized to Derek and said she was angry she had trusted their lawyer.

Cragen brought in Ted, a detective who was involved in the original case and Ted talked to Detective Amoto. Ted said Audrey was trying to protect her kids from a pedophile. He also said Derek had a history of slapping Audrey and his kids. They determined Derek was sleeping with Ted’s wife and that’s why Ted arrested him for a crime he supposedly didn’t commit.

Olivia talked to Michelle and her brother about Ted. Michelle said when she met Ted it was because her mom had called 911 on her dad after he hit her. Michelle was horrified to find out her mom was supposedly dating Ted when Derek was in jail, prior to the start of his trial.

The case went back in front of a judge where it was argued Ted and Audrey were together and that Derek’s defense was handled all wrong. The judge then declared Derek was going to go on trial again. The DA tried to offer Derek a deal that involved him having to admit guilt. Derek was told he could be in prison the rest of his life if he didn’t plead guilty to lesser charges.

During the retrial Audrey testified that she knew Ted because he responded to her domestic violence calls. She testified that she had been on a vacation with Ted before Derek’s original trial. Audrey said that she was drunk the night she argued with Derek and accused him of molesting Michelle.

Derek testified that he tried his best to raise his kids but Audrey got too caught up in drugs and alcohol to raise them right. He then said he did not sexually assault Michelle when he was accused of having done so. The DA implied that Derek told Michelle to lie to the court. Michelle testified that she was afraid of her mom and that is why she originally testified that Derek molested her. The DA then implied Derek had convinced Michelle that things had happened to her that never did. Michelle said she didn’t remember Derek doing anything bad to her on the night in question. When they asked Michelle if she knew Derek raped her she said she didn’t know because she was only six years old at the time. Michelle told her lawyer in open court that she thought the DA intimidated her into saying things that weren’t true and that her mom had done the same thing to her. Michelle confessed that she tried to tell her teacher Derek didn’t do anything to her, but her teacher didn’t believe her.

The jury then announced they found Derek not guilty of rape in the first degree. The judge thanked the jury for their service and told Derek he was free to go home.

Fabio Fognini Defeats Grigor Dimitrov: 2015 Rome Masters Open

Fabio Fognini scored his 200th career win with a 7-6(9), 4-6, 6-0 victory over tenth seed Grigor Dimitrov at the 2015 Rome Masters Open on Wednesday. This was a highly anticipated rematch between the two players which lasted quite a while and put on a great show. Dimitrov was only able to scrape up eleven points in the third set, and it seemed he had completely run out of steam by then. He will move on to the third round where he faces Tomas Berdych.

Fognini lost two matches to Dimitrov in Masters series tournaments over the past month, but started strongly on home ground, breaking his opponent’s serve to take a 4-2 lead in the first set, only to be broken right back.

In the tie-break, he had two set-points, but Dimitrov surged back and looked poised to continue his string of strong performances against the Italian. But several errors and one daring surge to the net later, Fognini closed the first frame 7-6 (11-9).

In the second set, the two opponents exchanged breaks of service early – smashing three racquets in the process – before Dimitrov held serve to win 6-4 despite going down 0-40 in the game.

But in the final frame, Dimitrov’s service appeared to fall into a black hole as he went 6-for-14 on first serve and 1-for-6 on second serve, making it the second time this year that he lost a decisive set with a bagel (the loss to Ryan Harrison in Acapulco being the other).

Dimitrov is not scheduled to play in either of the final two tournaments before the French Open, in Geneva and Nice next week, and will next take to the courts at Roland Garros, where he made a surprising first-round exit last year after being defeated in straight sets by Ivo Karlovic.

National League Baseball Week 5 Winners & Losers 2015

national league week 5 winners losers mlb 2015 images

The question many wondering entering the 2015 Major League Baseball season is which team in the National League could contend for the World Series. Now after five weeks of the season we have a few teams as well as players who stand out as winners while the rest of the league is on the losing end.

One of those clubs on the winners list is the Los Angles Dodgers who continue win going 8-2 over their past 10 games. That includes winning four of their six games last week after Saturday’s game was postponed. The Dodgers picked up a split with the Milwaukee Brewers before sweeping the Colorado Rockies in a shortened two game series.

While the Dodgers have been one of the winners around Major League Leage Baseball the Rockies have found themselves on the losers list. That comes despite having one of the games top lineups that features Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki. That being said the team has had trouble limiting opposing teams from scoring as they have been outscored by 48 runs in the there first 28 games this season.

Here are the rest of the winners and losers around the American League.

Winners:

bryce harper national league nationals winner week 5 mlb 2015

Bryce Harper, Washington Nationals: No need to beat around on who should be the first name on the winners list. That spot belongs to the Nationals outfielder after an impressive six home run streak in a three game stretch including a walk off homer on Saturday. Harper ended up going 10 for 22 in his six games last week with one double, six home runs, 13 runs batted in and three walks. The hot streak also helped to increase his batting average nearly 50 points over the six game stretch.

Washington Nationals: The teams recent success could be contributed to the success Harper has been having on the field. The Nationals played to a 5-1 record last week nearing the gap between them and the first place New York Mets in the National League East division. After opening up the week winning two of three over the Miami Marlins, the Nationals were able to pick up a three game sweep at home over the Atlanta Braves.

Milwaukee Brewers: After a disappointing start to the season, the Brewers are slowly turning it around despite still sitting at the bottom of the National League Central Division. The team managed to play to a 4-3 record last week after splitting a four game series with the Lost Angeles Dodgers. The Brewers then would take two of three against the Chicago Cubs.

mets bartolo colon national league winner week 5 2015 mlb

Bartolo Colon, New York Mets: Colon continues to put together an impressive 2015 campaign for the Mets. His success along with the teams other top starters like Matt Harvey has positioned them atop the National League East division. Colon improved his season record to 6-1 after picking up wins over the Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies last week. In his first start of the week, Colon went 7.2 innings with just one earned run against the Orioles before allowing four against the Phillies over the weekend.

Losers:

Colorado Rockies: When we start to look at this Rockies lineup on paper from top to bottom we couldn’t really understand how they could be this bad. Then we looked at the teams rotation and noticed where the teams problems exist. This team features some big name stars such as Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki along with the likes of some younger stars like Nolan Arenado. The team managed to lose all four of their games last week after having two postponed against the Diamondbacks to start the week and a third postponement on Saturday against the Dodgers. In two of the teams four loses the team managed to score only two runs.

phillies chad billingsley national league loser week 5 mlb 2015

Chad Billingsley, Philadelphia Phillies: The Phillies starter made his first two starts of the season last week. The end result was two back to back losses to start the week including an earned run average of nine in just two starts. His first start of the season came against the Atlanta Braves as he managed to go five innings allowing five earned runs to go with two home runs. Billingsley couldn’t  ounce back in his second start as he finished allowing five earned runs over five innings.

Chicago Cubs: After a solid start to the 2015 Major League Baseball season, the Cubs have slowly starting to fall in the National League Central division. That includes a  rough stretch over the past week as they managed to pick up just two wins in the teams seven games. The struggles started last Monday as the team fell to the Cardinals 10-9 one the road. The Cardinals would go on to win three of four in the series. The Cubs struggles continued over the weeked as the Brewers managed to take the final two of a three game series after losing game one. The teams one bright spot over the past week came off the bat of Kris Bryant who connected on his first career home run of his career.

mets lucas duda national league loser week 5 mlb 2015

Lucas Duda, New York Mets: The Mets recent struggles have a bunch to do with the teams lack of success at the plate. That includes the teams first baseman Lucas Duda who managed to pick up just three hits last week in 19 at bats with zero runs batted in and six strike outs. Duda lowered his batting average from .304 to .279 after the bad week at the plate.

rockies carlos gonzalez national league loser week 5 mlb 2015

Carlos Gonzalez, Colorado Rockies: Gonzalez’s slow start and the teams pitching woes has the Rockies in the bottom of the NL West division. The Rockies All-Star outfielder picked up just one hit in four games last week with zero runs batted in and four strike outs. On the season, Gonzalez is hitting just .196 with two home runs.

American League Baseball Week 5 Winners & Losers 2015

american league week 5 winners losers 2015 images

The American League is slowly taking shape after five weeks of action. That being said not every team that was expected to compete has played as well as the experts have thought. The same can also be said about a few of the teams that have outperformed expectations including teams like the Minnesota Twins and Houston Astros.

As we start to take a quick look around baseball one team that continues to struggle is the Baltimore Orioles. After a 2014 campaign that finished with an American League East crown, this past week as well as the previous four have been a struggle. The team has dealt with key injuries to JJ Hardy and Matt Wieters to start the season followed by a loss of Kevin Gausman last week due to an arm injury and Ryan Flaherty just a few weeks back.

Another team in the AL that lands on a losers list after a terrible week five performance is the Oakland A’s. The A’s finished last season second in the American League West and took home one of the two playoff spots. That same team hasn’t showed up this year as they sit in the bottom of the division winning just three of their last ten games.

Here are the rest of the winners and losers around the American League.

Winners:

felix hernandez mariners winner of the week american league mlb 2015

Felix Hernandez, Seattle Mariners: One of the games top starters notched both of his starts this week for the Mariners. Hernandez opened the week up with a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels after going seven innings allowing just one earned run while striking out eight. The Mariners ace followed that win up with his season his sixth win in the clubs 4-3 win allowing just two earned run while striking out six. Not only did Hernandez win his six game he also joined an elite pitchers group with over two thousand strikeouts.

Minnesota Twins: Just a week ago the Twins looked as if they were in for a long season for their fans, team and manager Paul Molitor. Since that point the club has turned it around winning eight of their past ten games including going 5-2 last week with series wins over the Oakland A’s and Cleveland Indians. The team’s success could be contributed to the play of outfielder Torri Hunter’s play.

ny yankees michael pineda winner of american league mlb 2015

Michael Pineda, New York Yankees: The Yankees starter made two starts last week picking up wins in each game against the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays. Pineda went eight innings against the Blue Jays in the first outing striking out six while allowing zero runs. The success continued to roll in on Sunday as Pineda struck out 16 Orioles in the Yankees 6-2 win while allowing just one run in seven innings.

Toronto Blue Jays: While the Yankees currently sit on the top of the American League East, the Blue Jays were able to play themselves back to a five hundred record after going 4-2 in six games. That included winning two of three over the Yankees before picking up the first two against the Blue Jays before losing on Sunday. In the teams four wins the Blue Jays pitching allowed just three earned runs while the team allowed 12 runs in the two losses

Losers:

Baltimore Orioles: The first team on our loser list is the Baltimore Orioles after another disappointing week. After a week the team had to play as the home team in Tampa Bay, the team continued to struggle last week. The team posted just a 1-5 record after losing both games to the New York Mets followed by three of four against the Yankees. Despite a lack of top tier pitching performance to date much of their failures last week dealt with the teams scoring. In six games, the Orioles managed to score 18 runs that includes a six run outburst on Saturday in the teams only win. If it didn’t get any worst the team also set a new record for the club with 18 strikeouts on Sunday including 16 against Michael Pineda.

Oakland A’s: While the O’s are struggling out on the East coast, the A’s continue to struggle on the West coast. The A’s might be playing some of the worst baseball in either league after going 1-6 last week including being swept over the weekend by the Seattle Mariners on the road. The team also lost three of four to start the week against the Minnesota Twins managing to score just 14 runs in a four game series with seven coming in game two. Currently the A’s sit in dead last but they still have an outside chance as three of the other four teams in the division also sit under the .500 mark.

bud norris feel up american league orioles loser week 5 mlb 2015

Bud Norris, Baltimore Orioles: The Orioles starter continues to struggle this season after take the loss in both his outings last week. The week started with a solid seven inning performance against the Yankees but the three runs allowed were enough to lead the Mets to a 3-2 victory. The Struggles continued on Sunday as Norris managed to get through only 3.1 innings allowing four earned runs. Norris is now just 1-4 on the season with a 9.88 earned run average.

corey cluber indians american league week 5 loser mlb 2015

Corey Kluber, Cleveland Indians: Kluber only made one start last week but his season struggles have continued. The reigning American League Cy Young award winner allowed five runs in 5.2 innings on Thursday as the Indians fell to the Kansas City Royals 7-4. Kluber now has allowed at least four earned runs in each of his last four starts moving his earned run average up to 5.04 on the season.

A Majority Viewpoint Of Edward Snowden

a majority view of edward snowden 2015

We had our other tech writer Marius do an article on Edward Snowden as we were wanting to have differing viewpoints on his actions as in the United States, he is still considered a traitor while being hailed as a hero around the rest of the world. While Marius was seeing Snowden more in the light of someone freeing information that should be free, David has written this one which takes more of a centrist view. You can read both and see if you find yourself agreeing with one or the other or maybe finding valid points in both articles.

Edward Snowden is a system administrator who has worked in numerous roles and for companies including Dell as well as the central intelligence agency (CIA).

He is perhaps most famous for his disclosure of thousands of classified documents that he managed to access whilst working for the NSA. Edward released these documents through various media channels in June 2013. After these acts he became one of the worlds most wanted men and had some difficult times ahead attempting to evade capture by various authorities.

He now lives in an undisclosed location in Moscow, Russia but is still actively seeking asylum in Europe.

This particular topic as with any topic that centres on privacy is a very controversial one and there are many different opinions about what Snowden did and whether it was justified.

edward snowden nas whistleblower 2015

On one side of the argument there is the argument against the violation of our private data as members of the public – there was tremendous uproar when some of these secrets were leaked detailing what the NSA and other security agencies had been up to. One of the key points that were leaked in these documents was the amount of private companies that the NSA and other security agencies had agreements with in terms of information provision. For example the fact that the NSA had direct access to data stored on servers owned by top tech giants such as Google, Facebook and Microsoft.

Of course this is a potential invasion of privacy and it’s easy to be very affronted by these revelations – how could the NSA do this with a clear conscience? In addition it became apparent that the NSA even had tools that have been built to make the acquisition and searching of all this data seamless – basically providing them with an all-encompassing window into the Internet and almost all of the data that it contains – website data, user search history, email access and much more. It is very scary to think that almost anything we do on the Internet can be easily tapped into and accessed and it’s not difficult to be insulted by this fact.

On the other side is the argument that transparency is crucial for national security and even for our safety as a society. It is also fair to say that as an individual, if you are not doing anything illegal then there should be no reason why you would worry about what you do being observed – for example if you are surfing the internet, shopping, sending emails to friends etc. why does it matter if it’s possible that this information could be viewed by security agencies?

These two arguments would put the actions of Edward Snowden in very different lights – if you believe that data privacy is crucial and fundamentally disagree with the activities of the NSA and other security agencies then Edwards leaking of these documents would seem just – it could well be considered a very good thing that the documents were made public, people were made aware of these practices and the NSA and other agencies were made to stand up and be accountable for their actions. In fact this did happen and there have been some positive changes since these leaks – The NSA are now being much more public about their requirements for data monitoring and are requesting so called front door access to the data held by companies such as Google. This more transparent approach is perhaps something that Snowden was aiming for when he leaked these documents in the first place.

Edward Snowden shows surveillance nsa at work 2015

If on the other hand you look at the national security element of the leaks and believe that it is important for security agencies to have access to public data in order to protect the country as a whole then the leaks made by Snowden could be viewed in a very different light and in fact could well be considered a breach of national security and of detrimental value to all of us.

I actually find it a very difficult situation to take sides on – I do find the content of the leaked documents very interesting and I can see that there has been some good to come from the leaks – having more transparency and communication from the security agencies such as the NSA can only be a good thing as it will educate the public as to their efforts and ultimate goals.

Having said that I can fully understand the national security agencies need to have access to data and to be able to look at all communications in the interests of national safety.

I always look at these things from a purely technical point of view – if I were in the position of the NSA and responsible for national safety, tasks with protecting society from criminals (which is ultimately their job) then of course I would do everything in my power to action this task. I would consider any private data, encrypted communications and social media records to be barriers to my job and of course I would want my view of all of this information to be as transparent as possible. So from that point of view I tend to stand on the side of the security agencies – ultimately because I know that I would do exactly the same thing in their situation – in fact probably more so.

Because of this opinion I would also tend to disagree with the leaking of this information by Edward Sowden, Ultimately I believe that the practices carried out by the NSA – whilst not necessarily always legal or morally right – were undertaken with the best intentions and therefor what Edward Snowden did simply acted to pervert good intentions and this is what I fundamentally don’t agree with. If you assessed the situation from a very simplistic view of good and bad then the NSA were trying to stop bad things from happening and Edward was essentially acting for the other side when he made the leaks.

Having said that, I do understand the arguments on both sides of this debate and I would love to hear some views from readers of this article.

Big Brother Doesn’t Like Encryption

big brother not happy with encryption pgp 2015 images

Few in the general population use encryption or are expected to use encryption software. In fact, most people today are open books. One could write down a simple biography of a person from their posts in Facebook right down to what they ate for dinner for a particular date night and their itinerary for their trip to Paris from their Twitter posts. All this data, including emails, phone calls, and what they bought from eBay or Amazon are apparently collected by various security and law-enforcement agencies worldwide to monitor their citizens. These authorities bat an eyelash the moment that data from someone they know to be an average Joe suddenly becomes unreadable.

encryption humor for big brother

Now what would some convenience store clerk at a local 7-11 want with that recently bought encryption app? What is this encrypted attachment he sent to this gas attendant a couple of blocks away? What could he be hiding? One day they’re using ordinary SMS now they’re using Snapchat! Seems like genuine questions in light of today’s terrorist infested world. Never has it been more important today to monitor persons of interest especially when tomorrow, they could be holding guns to someone’s head over in Syria or shoot a bunch of schoolchildren while dressed in full battle gear. But these authorities cry foul when tech companies encourage ordinary citizens to use encryption or any other software to secure their files and transmissions. In today’s world of rampant hacking, credit card or identity theft and online robberies, isn’t securing one’s self standard operating procedure even for the average Joe? In today’s world of online banking, online shopping, hacking industrial espionage and malware, shouldn’t we be making ourselves more secure through efficient anti-viruses, firewalls and even encryption? If celebrities had the ability to encrypt their nude selfies before uploading to the cloud, would they have been embarrassed in the first place? Wouldn’t we all need such a thing in case we have sudden abnormal bouts of narcissism?

big brother doesn't like encryption pgp 2015

Apparently securing one’s self by using an efficient firewall or encryption program makes life difficult for the nice people who collect our data and online activities for free. It ticks them off if they can’t read our data. We might be up to no good. They’re actually blaming tech companies for promoting better security. What’s their problem? The problem is if the average citizen is able to effectively hide the content of their transmissions from authorities, what’s to stop some man or woman with homicidal urges from joining some terrorist group and blow some people up? To avoid this, Dilbert needs to share his algorithms to Snoopy!

“It can be set up in a way which is friendly to terrorists and helps them … and creates challenges for law-enforcement and intelligence agencies. Or it can be set up in a way which doesn’t do that.”

— Mark Rowley, Assistant commissioner for specialist crime and operations, London Metropolitan Police

“It’s [encryption] become perhaps the biggest problem for the police and the security service authorities in dealing with the threats from terrorism…” “It only adds to our problems in getting to the communications of the most dangerous people that are abusing the internet…” “…[Technology companies] are doing it, I suppose, because of a commercial imperative driven by what they perceive to be consumer demand for greater privacy of their communications.”

Rob Wainwright, Director, European Police Office

Their arguments do sound compelling but security is still a must especially for business and even for individuals, who value their privacy and financial security. Of course tech companies are in it for the money as well as the apparent demand due to all the hacking and snooping. Now should Dilbert share his algorithms with Snoopy? Perhaps, but he’d be breaking constitutional law as well as his customers’ confidence. The thing is, there is really a need for increased security for both businesses and individuals because of the bad guys who are after our data. Unfortunately this increased security also makes it difficult for the ‘good guys’ to get our data and for them to get data from the extreme bad guys. The ‘good guys’ have to live with it or find some ways around it, take out their decoder rings and put in the extra effort. Whoever said spying was easy? According to Edward Snowden, the ‘good guys’ are pretty well equipped for the job and if it weren’t for them we wouldn’t need to encrypt our communications in the first place would we?

Roger Federer vs Kevin Anderson after ousting Pablo Cuevas: 2015 Rome Masters

roger federer wins at 2015 rome masters open vs kevin anderson

Roger Federer made sure not to repeat himself from the 2015 Madrid Open by defeating Pablo Cuevas in two sets in less than ninety minutes 7-6, 6-4. The Swiss maestro moves into the third round of the 2015 Rome Masters Open to face South African player Kevin Anderson. Anderson had it a little easier after Philipp Kohnschreiber retired in their second round match.

You can be sure he won’t get that easy treatment from Federer, who’s looking to get the one title he’s not won yet.

florian mayer loses to kevin anderson 2015 rome masters open

Federer started the match slowly, upping the ante as the match unfolded. Both players held their ground solidly, without any problems whatsoever and the opening set remained on serve, despite the Uruguayan facing a break point on his serve, leading to the tie-break to break the deadlock.

Both players kept hitting hard from at the back of the court, exchanging most shots to each other’s backhands, and interspersing it with occasional forays – more so, for Federer – into the net to finish the points. Cuevas matched Federer, almost point-for-point, shot-for-shot and what he didn’t, Federer’s errors saw to it that the Istanbul finalist remained an active participant in the match proceedings. In the tie-break, it was the Swiss’ experience that finally prevailed, helping him to clinch the opening set.

Cuevas found himself under pressure in the first game of the second set, with two break points on his serve. But he did well to save one with an ace and the other, by drawing out an error from Federer. The Istanbul finalist held his nerves to hold onto his serve thereafter. Cuevas wasn’t however able to save the next two break points on his serve, in the fifth game, and it gave Federer, the first break of serve for the match. One, he followed up with a quick consolidation.

roger federer beats pablo cuevas at 2015 rome masters open

Cuevas’ next game was held by him and Federer served out the match in the 10th game to reach the third round in the Italian capital.

Both players had no double faults in the match. Federer had eight aces, while Cuevas hit five. In terms of first serve points won, Federer won a high margin of points on his first serves at 92%. In comparison, Cuevas could only manage to win 66%. Federer had 31 winners to Cuevas’ 19. Both players however had the same number of unforced errors: 21. Federer won 17 points coming in at the net, from a possible 19. Cuevas, on the other hand, was able to win only six points in the 12 attempts to the net. Federer had no break points on his serve, while Cuevas saved three of the four break points on his serve.

The only two titles Federer hasn’t won in his arsenal is the Rome Masters and Monte Carlo Open. He has reached the final here in Rome three times in 2003 where he lost to Mantilla, 2006 where he lost to Rafael Nadal and 2013 where he again lost to Nadal. If he and Nadal reach the final, it will be an interesting game with one soon to retire legend going for that missing title and the other struggling to overcome himself.

Our wonderful reader Joy pointed out that as both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are on the same side of the draw, seeing the two in this final is just wishful thinking. That is a match we would all love to see as Federer would be fighting to not let Rafi get a third win from him here.

Andy Murray 2015 French Open Betting Odds Keep Plummeting

andy murray french open betting odds plummet 2015

Being a sure thing is great for your tennis rankings like Andy Murray, but it’s causing the betting odds on him for the 2015 French Open to drop and drop. Once the British tennis star hit the clay, odds were pretty high, but after his surprising back to back wins, they’ve dumped by nearly half now. After he beat somewhat favorite Rafael Nadal at the 2015 Madrid Open, everything went into freefall.

Having never previously won a clay-court title, the Scot secured his second successive victory on the red dirt as he beat Rafael Nadal 6-3 6-2 in Sunday’s Madrid Masters final.

That win also represented his first over the ‘King of Clay’ on the surface and saw his French Open odds tumble to 8/1, having been as long as 25/1 before his nine-match winning run.

Murray has leapfrogged Roger Federer and Kei Nishikori, who he beat in the semi-final in Madrid, in the betting, while Nadal has drifted out to 3/1.

andy murray wins keep his betting odds low for 2015 french open

The Spaniard has endured a well below-par campaign, with his only title coming at the 250 event in Buenos Aires, and has slipped down to seventh in the world rankings.

That fall means he could face world no 1 Novak Djokovic as early as the quarter-finals as he looks to land an unprecedented 10th title in the French capital.

Djokovic is marginally odds-on to win the season’s second Grand Slam at 10/11, having already won the Australian Open and three Masters title before sitting out Madrid.

He is also considered clear favourite for the Rome Masters this week, where 17 of the ATP’s top 20 players will be in attendance as they look to head to Paris in top form.

Many bookers are saying: “There’s no doubt that Djokovic and Nadal are the men to beat at the French Open but Murray is considered the most likely candidate to stop them following his impressive run.

“Djokovic is now rated a tougher opponent for the Scot, even on clay, given his seven successive defeats, but his odds are only likely to really tumble again if he can avoid both in the draw.

“It will be interesting to see how seriously Murray takes Rome given his gruelling schedule, especially given the French Open is the most physically demanding event on the calendar.”

SURVIVOR WORLDS APART Ep 10: Tyler Heads To Jury

On this week’s episode of Survivor there was speculation that Dan and Tyler tried to vote each other out last week. The six remaining contestants all had a meeting together following the Tribal Council where Shirin was eliminated from the competition. Dan said when he got two votes Will and Tyler flinched so he knew they voted against him. Tyler said he felt Dan was gullible and he was going to try and vote him out again.

Rodney’s birthday fell on the 30th day of the game and he said he hoped he would get a reward since it was his birthday. He said if he didn’t get a reward the game would completely change for him. Of course, he turned into a big cry baby whining and showing his ass which he always seems to do anyway.

This week’s rewards challenge out two teams against each other in an obstacle course that included untangling a ribbon and getting a ball into each of the course’s five targets. The winner of this challenge would get supplies to deliver to children in a local orphanage. An afternoon barbecue for the winning team was part of the reward as well. Dan became the captain of one team and Caroline became the captain of the other team which included Mike and Sierra.

Will sat out of the challenge so the two teams would be easily matched. Rodney caused a huge time loss for his team by leaving behind the balls that had to land in the desired targets, causing him to go back to the beginning get the balls and complete the obstacle course with them in his possession. It came down to Mike vs Dan in the end and Mike won the challenge. Jeff said Rodney was still being shut out of the rewards. Rodney said that it was sad that no one would give him their reward. Will, Tyler, Rodney and Dan were sent back to camp while the winning team went to go enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Mike said he felt like a big kid playing with the children from the orphanage that the team got to feed as a reward for winning the challenge. Caroline said Rodney would be angry with her with not giving up her reward for him, but she was on Survivor and she was doing what she had to do. She also said she saw Mike in a different light and that he has a lot of power in this game between his history with winning challenges and his hidden immunity idol.

Rodney complained he was washing dishes on his birthday. He said he felt neglected and that the other contestants were not the family he thought they were to him. Rodney said he was pissed off at Caroline for denying him a reward on his birthday. Dan said he understood why Rodney was upset but it was a bit much to deal with. Rodney said Mike was going to go home this week and Tyler said Rodney had lost it and he couldn’t rely on Dan. Tyler said he knew Mike wanted him gone from the competition.

Rodney then tried to make everyone think that he wanted them to vote him off at the next Tribal Council because he wanted out of the game. Mike said he knew they were trying to make him feel safe so he wouldn’t play his idol but that he was smarter than that.

Tyler said he trusted Caroline and you had to trust others in order to advance in the game. Caroline said she felt like was currently in charge of the game.

This week’s Immunity Challenge was to balance on a small perch while holding onto a rope that they had to keep moving down the length of every five minutes. The last person standing would win the challenge. During the challenge Rodney said he had the worst birthday of his life. Will and Dan were the first two eliminated from the Immunity Challenge. Sierra and Rodney were then eliminated from the challenge. Caroline, Mike and Tyler were the last three survivors of the challenge. Mike then lost his grip and got eliminated, quickly followed by Tyler. This left Caroline as the winner of individual immunity for the week.

Dan said he, Mike or Tyler was probably going home that night but that he knew everyone saw Tyler as a threat. Tyler said Mike, Caroline and Dan all had advantages going into that night’s Tribal Council. Tyler talked about sending Dan home that night. Caroline said Mike was gunning for Tyler and it might be her only opportunity to side with him but she didn’t know if that was the right move to make. Caroline said she and Tyler had a bond but he was the only one who knew she had an idol.

That night at Tribal Council the jury was brought in. Hali, Joe, Jenn and Shirin were the four jury members. Dan said he was very concerned he would be going home that night. Tyler said he touched base with everyone after last week’s Tribal Council. Caroline said advantages were somewhat of a threat at this point in the game. Tyler said he would be surprised if he was the one voted out. Jeff then took the votes and tallied them up and told the remaining contestants if anyone had a hidden immunity idol they could play it. Mike then stood up and played his idol. Jeff read the votes and announced that Tyler was going home.

CSI: CYBER Ep 110 Recap: That Poisonous Click

On this week’s episode of CSI: Cyber in Cleveland, Ohio a man, Carl Bruno was ordering coffee at a shop when he began to feel dizzy and experience blurred vision. His phone rang, but he wasn’t able to see what was on the screen. He abruptly left the coffee shop, where someone banged into him and spilled his cup of coffee. The man stumbled into traffic and got hit by a car.

Carl was killed in the accident and the FBI was informed of his death and given the results from the medical examiner’s autopsy. A prescription bottle of pills was found near Carl’s body, bringing the FDA into the investigation of his death, as well as the FBI. The medicine had been purchased from an online pharmacy based in Canada. The FDA had been tracing the pharmacy because many of its customers had complained about it. It was suspected that fraudulent ads were placed on a pharmacy’s website and that had something to do with what led to Carl’s death. Agent Ryan said Carl’s death was a homicide.

Daniel took a closer look at the ads on the website and found harmful codes in them. Nelson tested out the website by inputting symptoms he had and as a result, the website told him he had cancer that he did not have. Carl’s widow then showed up at FBI headquarters to talk to Deputy Sifter and Agent Ryan about her husband’s death. She then told them that she was responsible for the death of Carl. She told them she bought the prescription medication for him that ended up killing him. They tracked the delivery of the prescription medication to Carl’s house by the zip code it came from.

Daniel and Nelson were then told to take that information and find the machine that stamped the package to be mailed to Carl. Through deduction, they narrowed it down to four possibilities. They then narrowed it down to the IP address associated with the machine that stamped the package. They determined the package’s beginnings in Texas and agents Ryan and Mundo went there. At the address, they found a man named Paul who surrendered to them. Agent Ryan determined he was the middle man in the scheme, rather than the boss of it. She said Paul had taken the job to gain access to cancer medication he thought would help him. Paul told them he met a man online who had access to black-market pills and he started working with the man. Paul becomes so emotional upon finding out that Carl had died that he collapsed feet from the agents.

Deputy Sifter went to the corporate office of the website where the fraudulent ads were placed that led people to this illegal Canadian online pharmacy. He told the company’s boss to publically warn people that their website was directing people to the pharmacy.

Using traffic footage agents Ryan and Mundo were able to figure out where Paul had gone to pick up drugs to mail on behalf of the pharmacy. Through detective work Daniel found Randall Fung, who was also involved in the distribution of the medication. The agents went there and arrested Fung. He turned out to be the chemist behind creating the medication that killed Carl. Detective Sifter ran into the head of the company that had posted the ads and Sifter told the man to apologize to the public.

It was determined that Paul and Randall had been using an online casino to get their destructive ads on the internet to target innocent people and get them to buy drugs they didn’t need that ended up being placebo pills anyway.

Agent Ryan told Sifter she needed $250,000 to go on the poker site and tempt Randall and Paul to fall into her trap so she could prove they were involved in illegal activities. Ryan told Daniel and Nelson about her plan to trap the hacker in this case. She then took the $250,000 and used it to order drugs from the Canadian pharmacy. All of a sudden the hacker placed a $250,000 bet at the online casino Paul and Randall had been using.

While the target was playing at the online casino the team tried to track him down and stop him, but they were unsuccessful. They then found out where the target’s bank was located and that meant they would be able to find and apprehend him.

The target then went to his bank and closed out the account because he knew the FBI was on to him. After closing the account he left the bank in a hurry, shoving people out of his way. However, agents Mundo and Ryan were there to apprehend him. They identified the man as Shawn Morris and said that the last laugh was on him now that he had been caught. Afterwards the team went to a bar to celebrate having caught Morris. They determined Morris had been an experienced black hat hacker.

The website that carried the fraudulent ad was on the news and the head of the company went to the media to tell them that from now on the company was going to help protect web users from coming across and clicking on harmful ads on their website and other websites as well.

big bang theory season 9 updates 2015

Now that most of you Big Bang Theory fans have most likely seen the surprise scenes from the season finale and had that watery eye moment, (if you haven’t go watch it now), here are a few updates that will be happening in Season 9 so you’re not left hanging all summer.

penny leonard riding to las vegas big bang theory season 9

Season 8 left viewers hanging a little with Penny and Leonard heading to Las Vegas, but then of course, Leonard came clean about kissing another woman on the way there. This was a kiss from five years ago when he was on a research trip (or summer hiatus for the show), and while Penny may have said it was okay…it’s definitely not going to be okay.

When Season 9 returns, this will still be a big elephant in the room for Leonard and Penny and will be addressed before the wedding takes place. From the sound of it, next season might continue right where this one left off.

The bigger shocker of the finale was Amy breaking it off with Sheldon ending #Shamy for now. She felt that their relationship was moving much too slow and that Sheldon wasn’t taking it as seriously and putting in as much effort as she was. We see after her talk with him, how much the theoretical physicist is hit with this news.

amy farrah fowler returning to big bang theory season 9 2015

For those wondering if the brilliant Mayim Bialik will be returning, yes, she is a season regular so Amy Farrah Fowler will still be around. As we know in long-time series, things need to be shaken up a bit to keep a show from stagnating so the writers are considering having Leonard and Penny living together or short-term with Sheldon to help transition him. Since the show has two more season at least, this can be a great move forward for the show or sent it into chaos as sometimes the introduction of a baby can kill a show faster than an advertiser boycott.

This shakeup could be rather interesting as it could force Sheldon to move in with Stuart or open a path for he and Amy. We know they’ll wind up together, but they need a little dusting off to get back on track. I’m hoping a little creative moving around can work as I could already feel a sense of complacency in this season. I love the show, but it’s time to bring it back to live again.

Update: Big Bang Theory showrunner Steven Molaro has said “We don’t know exactly where they are but after five years, I think the answer is in the question. They have been dating, this is the fifth anniversary of their first date, and she can’t even get through a make-out session without him thinking about television, so I understand her frustration.

“At the same time, I understand his side, which is: How much faster do you think I can go with this? It’s an interesting place for them to be; it seems very real and I think it’s exciting that we’re shaking things up,” he added.

The Showrunner also talks one the questions all TBBT fans are asking, how long was Sheldon planning on proposing?

“I don’t know how long he’s had that.” he teased adding, ” I have an idea but I’m not going to tell you! (Laughs)”

“I don’t know if the length of time matters so much as the situation where Amy has taken a legitimate step back that he was not expecting. That’s really the headline here that we’ll be digging into.”

The producer also teased that Sheldon will work to win Amy back in season 9

Molaro dished, “I don’t know exactly what’s going to happen but he’s clearly fond of her. I don’t think they’re done speaking by any means. He’s so fond of her,  something is going to happen between them, I’m sure.”

BIG BANG THEORY Ep 824: Break Time For Sheldon & Amy Shamy

On the season finale of the Big Bang Theory, Amy and Sheldon kissed on his couch and then talked about how they had been dating for five years. They then began to argue because Sheldon changed the subject to a TV show he wanted to start watching.

At the comic book store Stuart told Raj and his girlfriend that he was closing the store early because he wanted to get home to Howard and Bernadette’s for a meatloaf dinner. Penny and Leonard arrived back at Leonard’s apartment after going to a farmer’s market. In the apartment Sheldon asked Penny for advice on why Amy was mad at him for caring more about a TV show than their dating anniversary. Penny said that Amy felt like she was being ignored because while Sheldon was kissing her he was thinking about his TV show.

Back at Howard and Bernadette’s house Raj was visiting and talked to them about Emily and whether or not she had seen his evil side. Raj then said Emily wanted to have sex with him in a graveyard. Bernadette said she didn’t see the harm in two consenting adults going to a graveyard to have sex. Raj speculated about whether or not he should break up with Emily. Howard said that Raj has never broken up with anyone before and Raj shot back that Howard didn’t like Stuart living in their house yet he hadn’t bothered to ask him to leave either. Raj said he didn’t want to hurt Emily’s feelings and that he didn’t think Howard wanted to hurt Stuart’s feelings.

Penny and Sheldon talked about how his relationship with Amy is moving very slow and that it might be moving too slow for her. Penny also pointed out that in the five years Amy and Sheldon have been together they have never slept together. Sheldon then shot back that Penny and Leonard weren’t moving forward in their relationship either. He pointed out that they had been engaged for more than a year and still hadn’t set a wedding date yet.

Bernadette then talked to Howard about possibly asking Stuart to move out. They then agreed that when Stuart got home that night they would ask him to move. Howard then told Bernadette she would have to be the one to bring up the subject to him.

Leonard asked Penny why they hadn’t chosen a wedding date yet and Penny said they were busy with other things and that their relationship was going very well. Leonard then asked Penny if she still wanted to marry him and she confirmed that she did. They then argued about the logistics of planning their wedding.

Raj and Emily spent part of their night sitting in a cemetery. Emily poured a glass of wine for each of them and asked Raj if being in a cemetery after dark was scary to him.

Sheldon apologized for causing Leonard and Penny to argue about their wedding. He then brought up the fact that they hadn’t yet chosen a wedding date and Penny asked Leonard if he wanted to get married that night. When Leonard asked if she was serious she told him Las Vegas wasn’t very far away from them. Leonard then said he wanted to do it and the two kissed.

stewart move out of howard and bernadette big bang theory 824 ep 2015

Howard and Bernadette prepared to ask Stuart to move out. Howard then ran upstairs, but Bernadette called him back down. When Stuart got home he said he had to put away the yogurt he had bought for Bernadette since he had eaten all of hers. He also bought a box of Crunch Berries for Howard. Bernadette told Howard to not let that sway him. When Stuart got back into the living room Bernadette told him they needed to talk. At the cemetery, Raj said the same thing to Emily.

Raj told Emily that he cares about her a lot but they are very different people. She then asked Raj if he was breaking up with her and Raj denied it. Emily told Raj to be honest with her and if he wanted to end the relationship he could just say so but that she wasn’t going to do it for him. Instead, Raj told Emily he loved her and then he kissed her.

At Howard and Bernadette’s house, Stuart said that it was his birthday upon getting a phone call from his father. Howard and Bernadette then gave Stuart a cupcake with a candle in it and reluctantly sang him happy birthday.

On the way to Las Vegas, Penny was looking up wedding chapels and found one at a Las Vegas Denny’s restaurant. Penny said that they could get on with their relationship without regrets but Leonard was hesitant to say the same thing. Leonard then said there was one thing he needed to tell Penny. He confessed that a couple years ago when he was on a research mission in the North Sea he kissed another woman. Leonard said it still bothered him that he had done that and that he wanted Penny to know he had. Penny asked Leonard why he was telling her this now. She then said she felt like by telling her this information now he was trying to sabotage the two getting married. She said she wasn’t happy that it had happened but that she thought she could get past it because they weren’t engaged when she did.

sheldon dealing with amy breakup big bang theory finale 2015

Amy and Sheldon had a video call where Amy told Sheldon that even though she loved him she needed to step back and take a break from their relationship. She then said goodbye to Sheldon and ended the video call. He closed his laptop and looked at a Gollum figure on his desk. He asked Gollum what he should do with the ring he had bought for Amy.

That’s it for this season of the Big Bang Theory. Viewers will have to wait and see what happens next.
