Lance Briggs Retiring From NFL For Chicago Bears TV Gig

0

lance briggs retiring for chicago bears 2015 nflAfter 12 NFL season, seven Pro Bowl selections, and 1,177 career tackles, former Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs has decided to retire from football despite reported interest from the San Francisco 49ers.

Briggs, the 68th pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, played every down of his career for the Bears, helping bring the defense in Chicago back to the form of their glory days not too long ago. Brian Urlacher and Briggs were the leaders of Lovie Smith’s new “Monsters of the Midway” which reached its zenith around the middle of last decade.

Urlacher, Briggs, safety Mike Brown, defensive tackle Tommie Harris, and cornerback Charles Tillman were actually so perfect together that they were able to lead the Bears past the New Orleans Saints in the 2006 NFC Championship Game and all the way to a Super Bowl XLI appearance against Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts…with Rex Grossman at quarterback.

I know, amazing.

Unfortunately, the Bears history of subpar quarterbacks kept closed the championship window that the defense was so desperately trying to pry open.

Although he never won that ring, Briggs still accomplished a lot. Briggs is retiring second in Bears’ history in tackles and fifth in games played. Briggs also holds the NFL record for the most stuffs—tackling a rusher for a loss—in league history at 83.5.

The 34 year old won’t just be sitting at home counting his money however, as he has already accepted a job with Comcast SportsNet Chicago as a TV analyst for the Bears.

“This was the right decision for me,” said Briggs. After suffering through injuries and missed games over the past few seasons, Briggs knew it was about time.

Will it be considered bad educate for a linebacker to make fun of his former quarterback? Then again, it’s gotta be hard to find something good to say about Jay Cutler these days.

Elizabeth Hasselbeck Not Much For Black Lives & Idris Elba’s Street Bond Appeal

The hump day gossip round up is here and there are some pretty juicy highlights to dish out. Former “View” co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck seems to find that Black Lives don’t Matter and should be a hate group instead. RHOA Cynthia Bailey might get demoted for kicking Porsha Williams and Idris Elba is considered ‘too street’ to play James Bond by white writer Anthony Horowitz.

Cynthia Bailey Possibly Demoted on Real Housewives of Atlanta

In the world of reality TV, it doesn’t always pay to be mean and nasty. It seems that Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member Cynthia Bailey may learn that the hard way.

Reports are flying in that Bailey may possibly be demoted after a scuffle between her and RHOA fellow cast member Porsha Williams went down where she supposedly kicked Williams in the stomach.

So now she runs the risk of losing a lot of money. All of this drama before season eight even starts is a lot to swallow. A part of me wonders if it is all for the sake of getting more ratings or keeping fans who vowed not to watch the show now that NeNe is leaving tuning in.

Either way, kicking her in the stomach, if that is what she did, is not very classy now is it? And all because Porsha called her a bitch? Hmmmmm, I don’t think losing your spot on a show that is your bread and butter is worth it CB.

idris elba too street to play james bond 2015 gossipAnthony Horowitz Apologizes for calling Idris Elba Too Street to play Bond

Let’s get one thing straight. Idris Elba is not “too” anything (except maybe sexy) for anything. So what exactly was on the mind of writer Anthony Horowitz’s when he said that the chocolate actor is “too street” to play James Bond?

Of course there are those who speculate that it is race issue. I personally didn’t want to go there in trying to fathom what would cause Horowitz to fix his mouth to say what he said.

To say that Elba is not smooth enough, handsome enough or swaggalious enough is a total mistake, so the only thing left to ascertain is that he’s not white enough… in that he is not white at all… right? But if you ask Horowtiz, who was tasked with taking over 007 books by the creator Ian Fleming, it’s not a race thing at all.

In an apology on twitter, he expressed his remorse in causing offence as he feels that his comments were taken out of context.

“I’m really sorry my comments about Idris Elba have caused offense… I chose the word ‘street’ as Elba’s gritty portrayal of DCI John Luther was in my mind but I admit it was a poor choice of word.”

During the interview, along with saying the Luther is “tooo street” he said, “Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better.”

I don’t know. Idris is a pretty damn good actor, and he’s just… pretty. He’d def do the role justice but that’s just my humble opinion.

elisabeth hasselbeck black lives matter 2015 gossip

Elizabeth Hasselbeck Wants Black Lives Movement Classified as Hate Group?

There are some people who I can’t understand for the life of me why they continue to have a public platform to even speak. The latest idiot to speak on things they don’t understand is Elizabeth Hasselbeck who suggested that the Black Lives Matter Movement is a hate group.

“Kevin, why has the Black Lives Matter movement not been classified as a hate group? How much more has to go in this direction before someone actually labels it as such?”

That’s the questioned she posed to her guest, conservative black writer Kevin Jackson who agreed with her!

“Well they should do it, but unfortunately it’s being financed by the leftists … Ironically it’s people that have nothing, really no concern at all about black lives.”

The conservative personality, whom we all remember used to get her card read all the damn time when she was a co-host on The View, is totally out of her league and is the perfect example of the how white America does not get it. I mean she was a contestant on survivor and not she’s a political commentator? For her to even have this train of thought is disturbing.

Literally, I can’t because there are just no words.

jay z wants criinal past out of civil trial 2015 gossipJay Z Wants Money and Criminal Past to be Left Out of Song Rights Civil Trial

If you didn’t know, Jay Z is going to court for a civil trial in which he and producer/rapper Timbaland are being sued for sampling Egyptian artist’s Baligh Hamdi’s 1960 song Khosara, Khosara for Jay’s song “Big Pimpin.” Timabaland believed that he bought the rights to the song at the time of his sampling.

With that, he has asked a California federal judge to bar testimony about his current lifestyle and his past criminal activity. Jay’s lawyers question why Hamdi’s lawyers just requested this information last month when the case was first brought against the Roc Nation boss in 2007.

“Plaintiff has not identified the purpose of offering Defendants’ criminal histories, let alone articulated how the probative value of such evidence substantially outweighs their prejudicial effect. Nor can he: the criminal record is entirely irrelevant and poses an overwhelming risk of biasing the jury against Defendants.”

Hamdi’s lawyers believe that Jay’s money and his past are relevant to show that he would have had the resources available to investigate the title but he just chose not to do so.

Jay’s lawyers believe that the plaintiff just wants to bias the jury in order to “emphasize their wealth, and artificially inflate the size of a potential damages award.”

AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR 714 Vegas Finals Stage 1 Recap

american ninja warrior neil craver vegas finals 2015What happens in Vegas….is a hell of a lot different than what happens on other American Ninja Warrior courses. This was my first look at the National Finals so I’m loving the faster pace. Two and a half minutes is all the runners get to finish stage one in Las Vegas.

Half the finalists ran in this episode. The rest will go at it next Monday night. This was the most fun I had all year covering the event.

There was less time spent on each course runner, but the action was non-stop. Here’s what happened to the elite athletes who were fortunate enough to make it to the city and course that never sleeps.

Like Doc Holiday in Tombstone, Paul Kasenmire was “rolling,” right up until Iseman jinxed him with “he’s gonna finish.” On the contrary, the course finished him.

One of the strangest athletes from this season of ANW, Nicholas Coolidge, took his shot at stage one. This guy lives in his van and even dumpster dives to stay alive and to make time to be a Ninja Warrior. That’s dedication…and clearly crazy. He was not prepared for the Jumping Spider though. He got all wet and headed back to his van.

There were more than a few early exists on stage one before the show got going good. The Propeller Bar was no joke and highlighted several nasty spills from on high.

The Godfather David Campbell has the best nickname and one of the smoothest styles on ANW. He didn’t look that smooth last night though as he was so cautious after failing on stage one the past three years. It happened again in 2015. This time it was the Coin Flip that knocked the veteran out of the running. That obstacle appears easy, but is like a Mario Bros. section that will end your game if you look past it.

Gordon White has to take his time as a dog trainer, but he should have sped up for stage one. He would have ran out of time anyway, but the cargo net at the end flipped him into the water. Got to follow John Wooden‘s advice when it comes to the Finals, “Be quick, but don’t hurry.”

We finally heard the buzzer go off when Tremayne Dortch finished the course after a couple nightmarish years in Vegas. He squashed the Jumping Spider and made up lots of time on the last few obstacles to finish with just over a second left!

american ninja warrior vegas finals images 2015The speed aspect just makes the show better. Through the “regular season” of American Ninja Warrior they have plenty of time to plan and pace themselves. That’s helpful as it readies the runners for each new round. The Vegas course requires a flow that only the best can manage.

One of the biggest disappointments on the night was James McGrath. He was really down on himself and the crowd was shocked as he slid down the Spider Wall. Wet shoes were part of the issue there. Use that towel my man!

Akbar continued to amaze me with his commentary, calling Neil Craver “so goofy.” Craver is a bit out there, but the guy is an artist so that’s expected. The Goofy Ninja finished the game and is set up for stage two.

I love the guys that quit work to train full time. That makes me want to be a Ninja Warrior, mainly to retire early. I just need a sponsor, even the most corrupt company….I can be bought. Brian Arnold quit his job and it paid off. For the fourth straight year he is through stage one and closer to the million dollar prize. I wonder if you can get unemployment while training?

Michelle Warnky had a slow start and even with her dad firing up the crowd for her, she could not complete the Jumping Spider.

I was hyped to see legendary Sam Sann make his run. This longtime Ninja competitor had plenty of trouble in the past with sections involving a trampoline. It got him again on the Propeller Bar. He just can’t crack the code on that leap. He needed to go higher to grab on with his arms fully, not just the hands. Me telling Sam Sann how to do a course. Wow.

My odds on favorite to win this year is Geoff Britten. Even though he admitted stage one was not his strong suit and he was very cautious at the start, he managed to make it to the buzzer. Though counter intuitive, stage two should be easier for him.

One of my favorite stories this season has been P.J. Granger. The concrete worker from Bedford, Indiana quit drinking and stood online for over 150 hours to get his shot! Incredible dedication that could not have happened without a very supportive wife. He got bit by the Jumping Spider, but had a hell of a run to get to the Finals. I have a feeling he got much more out of ANW than just a chance to compete. Dude changed his very life.

Love Flip Rodriguez. He’s all business now. He ended up with one of the fastest runs on the night with his silky smooth style. Kid could have got a bye for stage one. It was made for him. Too good, too quick, just fluid motion through stage one.

Gym owner David Yarter better work on his cardio next chance he gets. Can’t be winded halfway through stage one! The elite runners shouldn’t even break a sweat at that point. To his credit he paced himself just right and hit the buzzer with just half a second left. It would surely suck to get to the last platform and run out of time after conquering all the obstacles. Got to beat the clock too.

Ben Melick won. Not on the course. He flamed out on the Sonic Curve. He did win his GF over with a marriage proposal right after getting out of the water. His lady said yes. Lucky him, they seemed like a good fit.

Ryan Statis and Danile Gil are polar opposites. Statis is a maniac with a beard, and Gil is an opera singer with long curly hair. Both made it through the course and will move on to stage two. Gil had the second fastest time on the night even though he is the most #unlikelyninjaever.

Chalk one up for us old guys. Travis Rosen is the oldest Ninja through stage one ever and he finished fourth overall!

Big Jessie Graff fan. She has “it.” She’s bubbly, beautiful, and charismatic. Hopefully ANW has done wonders for her career. She made an awesome save on Sonic Curve to stay alive. She was ecstatic after landing the Spider Jump. The hardest part is the stick…walking the wall is easy. She was not able to get up the Warped Wall however, so her night ended there.

Got to start at the top of the platform on the Warped Wall. No idea why she and others walked to the bottom. Maybe the rules weren’t clear? Obviously more momentum is gained from the starting at the top.

5′ 2″ powerball Dustin McKinney is still alive. He is maybe my favorite competitor to watch. He has confidence, but told Kristine Leahy he was just “having fun.” Whatever works!

You want to talk confidence. Kevin Bull looks like he was born on a obstacle course. No fear, no hesitation. His wild run ended the night with Bull at the number one spot with a time of 1:40.26. That was a great time, ten seconds ahead of another guy who may be just as confident, Daniel Gil.

The top five finishers are an impressive list and it’s hard to imagine next week’s class being better, but we’ll wait and see.

The top five runners (with times) this week were:
1 Kevin Bull  1:40.26
2 Daniel Gil     1:51.56
3 Flip Rodriguez  2:01.14
4 Travis Rosen  2:04.14
5 Geoff Britten  2:05.34

Roger Federer Retirement Plan Match Preview: 2015 US Open

0

roger federer retirment plan match preview us open images 2015Roger Federer, a five-time champion at Flushing Meadows, is on the order of play for Tuesday at the 2015 US Open. The Swiss Maestro, who last won the title in New York in 2008, will face Leonardo Mayer of Argentina in the last match of the morning set. The contest could be a tricky one for Federer however the World No. 2 still enters as a huge favorite (ie. -6600 with bet365) following so much previous success at the US Open.

Firstly, it should be pointed out that Mayer is hardly a slouch on tour. The World No. 34 barely missed being seeded at this year’s final Grand Slam, something he has to be lamenting as a seed, even a low one, would have guaranteed a softer early-round draw than the one he has got. If Mayer had been ranked just a little bit higher at the time of seeding, he might be thinking about trying to negotiate his way to the third or fourth round in New York. Things as they are, last year’s champion from Hamburg appears for a first-round exit.

The probability of Mayer losing seems all the more likely given that Federer has not actually lost a first-round match at Flushing Meadows. Federer has been a mainstay in the tournament’s third round since debuting at the event back in 2000.

Furthermore, between 2004 and 2009 inclusive, Federer was a mainstay in the final as well. In those finals, which were played during the peak of his career, he compiled a 5-1 record.

But since losing the 2009 final to Juan Martin del Potro, Federer has not returned to a championship match in New York. He still has 22 match-wins between 2010 and 2014, coming very close to making the final in two of those seasons. Mayer, conversely, has just six match-wins at Flushing Meadows in his entire career.

Federer turned 34 years old in early August and, as he ages, questions of retirement have increasingly buzzed around. However any current question of how long Federer will play has to be due to mere curiosity, not a reference to poor play. Federer, most recently, claimed the Cincinnati Masters through both Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. In many ways, the Swiss Maestro enters Flushing Meadows 2015 looking as sharp as ever.

With unquestionable desire and a clear competitive edge, even in his mid-thirties, you have to think that Federer will be at Flushing Meadows for a few more seasons still. He could probably keep his ranking high enough to stay seeded in the event even as late as 2018 or 2019.

In terms of competing, let’s not forget that Jimmy Connors, a former World No. 1 who has to be judged as a lesser-talent than Federer, made the US Open semifinals at the age of 39. If anyone on tour over 30 right now is a threat to match that achievement in the decade ahead, it is Federer.

But first things first.

A good draw for Federer at this year’s US Open probably would not have placed a player like Mayer, a champion on tour and a well-ranked player, right beside the World No. 2 in the first round. Additionally, I think Federer might have liked his luck a little better if he had shared a semi with Kei Nishikori instead of Murray.

However if Federer gets by Mayer in the first round then it should be pretty smooth sailing all the way to the quarters. Tomas Berdych or Richard Gasquet appear to be the most credible threats to Federer ahead of the semifinals, keeping in mind that the former has defeated Federer in Grand Slam quarterfinals before.

I don’t think future US Opens will be smooth sailing for Federer, but I still think he’ll compete in them as best he can. It’s the way he’s made and his drive does not appear to be dissipating.

Beware Fantasy Football Busts: Tight End Julius Thomas & Running Back Joique Bell

joie que bell fantasy football busts 2015 nflThere’s always a few. Toby Gerhart and Jay Cutler would be examples from 2014. No one wants to draft a fantasy bust, but someone has to. Here’s a few potential busts for 2015, so you can try and avoid being that guy. If you’ve already drafted them, better try and make a trade:

Julius Thomas, tight end, Jacksonville Jaguars: This should be pretty obvious, but for some reason he went relatively early in my leagues. The bottom line is Thomas will not and cannot be nearly as good in Jacksonville as he was in Denver. I still don’t understand his thought process in deciding to leave a championship competitor and Peyton Manning to play with…well, Blake Bortles. Sure, Thomas may still be a top 10 tight end because of the lack at that position, but a top 10 tight end is hardly worth drafting.

If you’re a huge Jags fan and insist on having him, just be sure to wait till the ending rounds.

Joique Bell, running back, Detroit Lions: Really, you can just generalize this and say avoid all Lions running backs. Bell has had a lot of issues with injuries, and the rookie Ameer Abdullah has been pretty impressive. There’s a very high chance that Abdullah will take a good portion of carries, especially as the year progresses, and Zach Zenner and Theo Riddick may even take a few downs.

So to recap, Bell is an injury risk, Abdullah will probably have some growing pains as his playtime increases, and Riddick and Zenner simply won’t be on the field enough to warrant even picking them up on waivers.

Honorable mentions for running back busts include the injury-prone C.J. Spiller, the fading Joseph Randle, and of course Doug Martin who is just perpetually unreliable.

Indie Horror POD Trailer Looks Like Misdirection

0

pod movie horror 2015POD is one of those indie horror/sci-fi film that, from the looks of the trailer below, could be either something fun or just pure torture to watch. It’s odd when a trailer leaves you like that since they’re meant to be a selling point. Sadly, sometimes the filmmakers are way too close to their project and want to include everything they feel is important and wind up with a convoluted mess. That’s what we mean in our title about the misdirection because it feels like this could be a really crappy movie that wants you to think it’s about one thing, and then you shell our your money and wind up pissed off with what you get.

Here’s what we get from the trailer, along with the synopsis of the POD. After receiving a rather creepy cryptic message from their war veteran brother, estranged siblings Ed and Lyla are brought together to check on him. Knowing that he’s holed up on their isolated family lake house make them realize that something’s going down, and it’s not about to be anything good.

The trailer doesn’t let us know what the message says, but you know it’s something bad if the brother sister who don’t like each other are quick to jump in a car and drive out there to either stage an intervention or talk brother Martin down.

Having a mentally disturbed brother would have been much more welcomed compared to what they discover is lurking in the family lake house. When they get to the cabin, their brother tells them there’s a pod down in the basement that holds something sinister in it. The trailer doesn’t give you much of a glimpse inside what’s in the POD. You really don’t know if it’s an alien, a demon or what the hell it is.

The siblings don’t seem convinced right away that their brother is telling the truth. Of course, they think the POD is just a manifestation of PTSD and his deteriorating mental state. Hopefully this won’t be that type of indie horror that draws it out making us wonder if Martin is crazy or there really is a POD in his basement. We, the audience, know it’s there so here’s hoping they get right to the crazy horror action.

From the looks of the trailer, the acting is your typical indie horror bad. Sometimes the blandness of the acting can make the horror feel more real or just destroy it completely. While not an original plot, it’s one that, in the right hands, can be brought to life with a different spin.

The trailer compares it to The X-Files, which is a mighty high bar to live up to, plus it lets us know there’s definitely going to be an alien in that POD. It’s dark with your usual shades of grey, blue and grainy whites with people running around in the snow, letting you know of how isolated this place is. Also, we realize how alone these people are too.

pod movie trailer images 2015Thankfully, the trailer makes the film feel like the bulk of the action will be inside so you’ll have that great claustrophobic feel which makes horror so creepy.

It came out recently, but it seems like one that will be on Netflix pretty quick.

Directed by Mickey Keating, POD stars Lauren Ashley Carter, Dean Cates, Brian Morvant, Larry Fessenden and John Weselcouch.

Windows 10: When Piracy Seeks Privacy

0

windows 10 privacy setting fumbles on piracy 2015 images techWindows 10, being a new Windows version, has to set itself apart from its predecessors through a lot of new features both external and internal. Windows 10’s most prominent features include the return of the Start Menu, its new browser Edge, the Action Center and Cortana. There are also plenty of internal features designed to make things easier and to make the most of the internet. But to do that, Microsoft needs to collect user data or allow other parties to collect user data, a lot of user data like location, search habits and typed URLs. With the world getting more concerned with security and privacy, Microsoft needs to be as transparent as it could as to what data it collects as well as what data the operating system allows other companies to collect. Windows 10 gives users an idea and a level of control within the Settings category aptly named Privacy.

But many privacy-concerned parties think that these controls are limited. That despite these controls, Windows 10 continues to send out data to Microsoft about a user’s web habits that are none of Microsoft’s business. That using Windows 10 out of the box without messing with the privacy settings exposes the user like that emperor with the apparel as transparent as Rose McGowan’s VMA dress. And many ordinary users expect Windows 10 to work out of the box and won’t bother messing with any setting other than the operating system’s appearance. Now, one of these privacy concerned parties are owners of private or elite torrent sites. These sites aim to ban or have already banned users of Windows 10. This puts the adoption of Windows 10 in a bind as many people frequent torrent sites for content, legitimate or otherwise. Users who want to download gigabytes of data from a database backup, the latest pirated movie or the Ashley-Madison data dump will have to stick with Windows 8 or lower.

A vague clause in Microsoft’s EULA, which many don’t really care to read, is partly to blame:

“We may automatically check your version of the software and download software updates or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the Services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorized hardware peripheral devices.”

Reading it as plainly as torrent site admins, this says that Microsoft will scan users’ systems without consent and adjust or configure the system to ensure continuous use of Microsoft’s services and will prevent users from playing counterfeit games and perhaps other pirated content and will prevent users from using hardware it deems unauthorized or unsupported. Sounds pretty fascist. The ITS torrent group even claims that Microsoft following the NSA’s footsteps by tracking the contents of users’ hard drives and goes as far as disclosing these contents to MarkMonitor, an anti-piracy group. Sounds pretty creepy. We know what happened to some individuals who were made examples of for illegally downloading MP3s. It’s somewhat terrifying since at one time or another, a user may engage in consuming pirated content or using pirated software even without actively acquiring them.

windows 10 privacy scares off pirate bayIn a positive light, the clause simply says (IMO) that Microsoft will ensure the operating system runs smoothly by scanning and updating the system by keeping out illegal and unsupported software, hardware and including perhaps, media content. The clause still sounds ominous even when viewed positively. On a more legitimate cause, a user could end up not being able to use his trusty and rusty dot matrix printer because Microsoft deems it deprecated. As for the bit regarding counterfeit games, it’s mostly Microsoft’s way of protecting it’s XBOX interests as XBOX will be more integrated in Windows 10 and that such a scan will focus only on XBOX games. The scan may also put unknown 3rd party XBOX peripherals like controllers at risk.

Still, many users will contend that whatever they’ll do with their Windows and Xboxes after purchase is their business and that Microsoft should keep their noses out. However, nowhere in the clause does it say that Microsoft will download, collect or keep the scanned information. ITS and company doesn’t think so.

With all the mounting paranoia regarding Windows 10 and privacy, users can still play with Windows 10’s privacy settings and turn then on or off without fear of turning their systems into expensive doorstops. Users can easily reach these settings by clicking the Action Center or swiping the desktop to the left and then clicking on All Settings then clicking on Privacy. There are a lot of options but we’ll just go through the ones in General, Camera and Locations:

  • Let apps use my advertising ID for experiences across apps – the purpose of which is for Microsoft to personalize ads in apps. Easily turned off since we don’t care much for ads nor want ads in the first place.
  • Turn on SmartScreen Filter to check out web content URLs that Windows Store apps use – is actually a useful feature like that found in Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. Few store apps actually make use of URLs but its better safe than sorry.
  • Send Microsoft info about how I write to help us improve typing and writing in the future – is aimed at improving auto-correct, auto-URL and auto-text-completion features. Auto-URL completion is quite handy but many suspect this as a keylogger. It’s safe to turn this setting off.
  • Let websites provide locally relevant content by accessing my language list – this one is a shoe-in for English users to turn off but non-English users could find this useful.
  • In the Location Tab, this simply tracks the user’s location in order for Windows and apps to easier provide relevant content. But who wants to be tracked? Unless you have apps that depend on your current location, it’s okay to turn this off.
  • Let apps use my camera – for those paranoid that their webcams are used to passively spy on them, by all means turn them off if not Skyping. The same goes with the microphone.

Feel free to mess with these settings and if you break something, there’s always Microsoft support—or Google. But if you absolutely need to use torrent sites that ban Windows 10, there’s no shame in not upgrading. It’s a free country.

Preseason Week 3 NFL Winners & Losers

0

nfl preseason week 3 winners losers matt ryan images 2015Funny how there are more losers every week than winners in the League. Also curious how one former Heisman winner manages to end up in the loser bracket.

There is some redemption for a certain courtroom artist. So that’s a positive.

Week three in the NFL’s preseason saw more cuts, among those a few bigger names. It’s no fun to be fired and that is just what’s happening to these players. Many will find other teams and hang on another year or so. But for some this is the end of the line. They will have to get real jobs that will more than likely suck. Join the rest of the world fellas, sorry.

NFL Grown Woman of the Week: You know Jane Rosenberg right? Of course not, but you have seen her handy work. She is the courtroom sketch artist that got lambasted for making Tom Brady look like an extra on The Walking Dead. Today she had a better rendition of Tommy and got in some shots at the idiot fans that were actually mad at her.

“I couldn’t deal with all the media attention,” Rosenberg said of the initial backlash, according to ESPN.com. “If only I had a (PR) public relations person. I had a very rough time for a few days, and I got a lot of people sending me nasty e-mails. I can’t figure out why they even bothered.”

They bothered because these fans have empty lives and would cut off their own mother’s right arm if Brady was in need of a new limb.

NFL Child of the Week: John Harbaugh. It’s not nice for these NFL head coaches to bully bigger name sideline reporters. But to do it to a guy that isn’t very high on the ladder like Ravens sideline reporter Brent Harris is pretty shameful. Harbaugh was fired up. I get that, but no need to punish a guy that’s just doing his job by asking questions. I’m sure Harris would rather be talking to someone else at that moment too John. What would your mama think?

Winner: Tyrod Taylor. This guy has been a career backup, but now gets the vote of confidence from Rex Ryan. Taylor will get the start on opening day for Buffalo. This guy got his share of criticism on the few occasions he has gotten into games. I’d like to see a happy ending for a guy that has stuck with it, when so many others would have given up at this point.

Loser: Tim Jennings. The Bears got rid of a two time Pro Bowler after he failed to impress in 2014. The Bears are looking to go younger and gave him a heads up in the offseason. This kid was a great UGA Dawg once upon a time. Every player has a ticking clock though and his time in Chicago is up. No parades, no big deal. Just like most send offs for NFL players. Not many guys get sent off into the sunset with the crowd chanting their names.

Winner: Redskins fans.

Loser: RGIII. I’m not picking on this guy, I swear. He just manages to be on the negative side of the news feed each and every week. He has been demoted now that Kirk Cousins has been named QB1. There are also rumors floating about that has Griffin being cut!

Winner: America. U.S. District Judge Richard Berman will decide whether Tom Brady will start the season on the bench or under center. No settlement was reached so Berman says he will decide the fate of Tom Brady by Friday, maybe sooner. If DeflateGate is put behind us for good, we should have a freaking parade. Maybe even overturn some cars to celebrate.

Loser:  The Patriots. They were without Tom Brady during Monday’s practice. He was in a New York Federal court house. No settlement was reached of course so the quarterback’s time was wasted once again.

Winner: Julio Jones. I don’t wish I was Julio. I just wish I was the guy’s agent. I don’t care to go through training camp and get popped over the middle by angry grown men. I would just like a percentage of that $47 million that is guaranteed the Falcons stud receiver. That’s could be close to a million five in case you’re curious.

Loser: Matt Ryan. Julio Jones got a fat new deal. Ryan got put on his ass three times as his o-line was dominated by Miami’s defensive line. Upsetting game film for Bird watchers.

Winner: The first four teams facing the Steelers in the first part of the schedule. Martavis Bryant is out for violating the substance-abuse policy. That suspension should make things easier for those opponents. Fantasy players take note.

Loser: Fred Jackson may finally have lost to Father Time. The guy seems like he has been in the league since it was legal to actually hit quarterbacks. Yes, that long! Buffalo finally cut the running back that has been with them since 2007. He wasn’t Barry Sanders, but he was there when the Bills needed him.

Loser: Trent Richardson. Kid, I hope you have a rich uncle that has a job waiting for you. Now that the Raiders have cast this once talented player aside, he may be finished for good in the League. Maybe he ends up playing football for pay somewhere outside the NFL, but it won’t be for much money obviously.

Loser Tweet: NFL loses when concussion talk goes even more mainstream. Will Smith is about as mainstream as it gets. #majorfilm

Winner Tweet : Steve Smith. Love this guy. Tough as nails and does not give a damn about what people think of him. Get ejected from an exhibition game, so what’s the next logical move? Watch said game with your kid in the stands. #ejectednstyle

2015 US Open First Round Tennis Report Card

0

us open tennis first round report card kei nishikori 2015 imagesThe 2015 US Open first round of tennis is over for men’s singles at Flushing Meadows and it’s time to issue a report card in consideration of the results. Starting with the Fs for fails and moving to the A-pluses, here’s my take on who makes what grade following the first two nights of action from New York.

Kei Nishikori: F-

Nishikori entered the 2015 US Open as one of the core favorites however his tournament is already over. The only high seed to see elimination from the men’s draw in round one, Japan’s top star squandered match points against Frenchman Benoit Paire before losing to him in five sets. Nishikori, who had made the final last season, will lose some 1190 ranking points with the post-US Open rankings update. That should see him drop down to at least fifth in the world and it’s fair to say that he’s lost some momentum.

Elias Ymer: F

The young qualifier from Sweden is a player few will be familiar with. Ymer, who is just nineteen years old, is still very much looking for his footing on tour. I expected that he would find some having drawn Diego Schwartzman but instead it was the Argentine who blasted Ymer off the court 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

Leonardo Mayer: D-

Mayer drew Roger Federer in the first round and that’s been doom for every such player over the years at Flushing Meadows. But Mayer was so flat in the match that he still has to be given a terrible grade following his performance. Fortunately Grand Slams are one-and-done so, in theory, we won’t be subject to such horrible play again in the near future.

Sam Querrey: D

Querrey was playing in the biggest tournament that his country has to offer and he drew Nicholas Mahut in the first round. That probably should have been a dunk for the American however Querrey, in front of a supportive crowd, fell in straight sets.

[pdf-embedder url=”http://movietvtechgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/us-open-2nd-round-draw-schedule.pdf”]

Stan Wawrinka: C+

Wawrinka got through his first round match and he even won in straight sets. However with nine double faults and forty-five unforced errors he may only be through to the second round due to a lucky first-round draw. Wawrinka’s future opponents may not be so lenient with mistakes as Albert Ramos-Vinolas was on Tuesday.

Hyeon Chung: B-

The baby-faced South Korean won the first Grand Slam singles match of his career. It was only against James Duckworth so there’s not a ton to write home about. However Chung, who is only 19 years old, was still very efficient in winning in straight sets and in just over 90 minutes.

Rafael Nadal: B-

Nadal had a tricky opening round opponent in Borna Coric and the Spaniard won in four sets. Following some of the problems that Nadal has had this season, he has to feeling positive about the result.

Andy Murray: B+

Murray, who defeated Nick Kyrgios, almost deserves an “A” as the World No. 3 had a very difficult first-round opponent. However the Scot did drop a set and that kept him on court for about three hours in total. Nonetheless, Murray has to feel great about advancing and putting a very difficult first-round opponent to bed.

Roger Federer: A

Simply put, Federer made the World No. 34 look like the World No. 340.

Novak Djokovic: A+

Djokovic did not have a tough opening round opponent however with no double faults and only seven unforced errors, the Serb was as sharp as ever. He only needed 71 minutes to defeat Joao Souza 6-1, 6-1, 6-1.

Robert Griffin III & Trent Richardson’s NFL Futures Fading Rapidly

0

robert griffin iii trent richardson nfl future fades football 2015It’s not looking good for 2nd and 3rd overall picks in the 2012 NFL Draft. Andrew Luck is doing pretty well, but Robert Griffin III and Trent Richardson may be starting at the end of their careers after being benched and cut this week, respectively.

For Richardson, there is almost certainly no coming back. After being drafted to the Cleveland Browns, things just went downhill. The Browns gave up four picks to move up one slot and pick up the star running back, and after a decent rookie season, the Browns dealt him to the Indianapolis Colts for a 1st round pick.

The change of scenery didn’t help Richardson, and he continued to struggle even on a solid offense. The Colts eventually had enough and just cut the former Alabama back.

While, in typical Oakland Raiders fashion, they picked up the draft-bust with $600,000 in guaranteed money hoping to stabilize the running back position with uncertainty surrounding Roy Helu and Latavius Murray.

Surprise, surprise, things didn’t work out in Oakland. Richardson just can’t produce. He hasn’t been able to since his rookie season. If you watched the Raiders play the St. Louis Rams, you probably noticed the goal line situation in which Richardson missed a huge hole opening to the end zone and ran into a wall of bodies instead.

Some things you just can’t teach.

Things aren’t much better for RGIII. Of course, the Washington Redskins also gave up a good amount to jump up to the Rams’ spot and draft the Heisman Trophy winner, and now they aren’t even going to play him.

Hard to blame them. After a fantastic rookie season, Griffin has been a running joke amongst football fans. He’s basically a less-popular Tim Tebow. He sucks, but you still have to hear about him every time you turn on a TV.

Jay Gruden finally had enough of the subpar performances, and named Kirk Cousins the starter for 2015.

Sure, Cousins may not be a drastic improvement, but Gruden seems to think he has a better hold on the team. After another horrible season in the nation’s capital, it really can’t hurt.

Unlike Richardson who could very likely end up unemployed for a few weeks until injuries start to pile up, RGIII doesn’t have to worry about job security. He’s a pretty big name, after all. Even if the Redskins were to cut him, he would have no problem finding a cushy backup job to “scare” a team’s starter into working harder.

Sounds like something the Jets would do.

Kylie Jenner Is More Than & Lauren Conrad Talks Heidi Montag

kylie jenner more than anti bullying 2015 gossip18-year-old Kylie Jenner decided to launch a campaign against bullying, in hopes of combatting the issue that many people her age face. On Instagram, Kylie announced her excitement in launching an Instagram-based campaign called #IAmMoreThan.

Along with a picture saying #IAmMoreThan, the young reality star shared a caption saying:

“I am so excited to launch my new @Instagram campaign #IAmMoreThan. For the next six days, I will be sharing stories of 6 incredible people who have become heroes in their own way by taking #bullying and turning it into something positive. I’ve gotten to talk and bond with all of these people whose stories you will see on my page. I think you will all fall in love with them just like I did. I want to encourage you, my fans, to share something positive about yourselves. I’ll be reading as much as I can so that some of you can be apart of this as well! Kylie Jenner, Instagram Post:

Kylie has had a tough year of criticism herself, following her confession where she admitted she had gotten temporary lip fillers. In addition, she has also received ample backlash for her mature appearance and her relationship with 25-year-old rapper Tyga.

The 18-year-old opened up to her fans in June, admitting she has been bullied since she was 9 (when she began appearing on Keeping Up with the Kardashians). In a series of SnapChat Videos, the star talked about her experiences with bullying and stated, “The only opinion that really matters is yours.”

lauren conrad cosmopolitan spread for heidi montag 2015 gossipThe October issue of Cosmopolitan features former The Hills and Laguna Beach star Lauren Conrad.

In the spread, Lauren opens up about her experience on the MTV reality shows saying, “when I did television, scandal was always around me and I think one of the best things [about that] for me is that your life becomes more big-picture. You have to develop a thick skin really quickly. It toughened me up, which is good.”

Lauren was part of the infamous feud with Hills co-star Heidi Montag. This feud begun when Lauren believed that Heidi’s boyfriend at the time (now her husband), Spencer Pratt started a rumor that Lauren had a sex-tape with her ex-boyfriend Jason. In addition, Lauren felt that Heidi was aware of Spencer’s malicious actions. However, both Spencer and Heidi denied their involvement in the rumor, but eventually this caused the deterioration of Lauren’s friendship with Heidi (and subsequently Spencer).

Although both stars have moved on from the fall out in their friendship, it was all brought back up in 2013 when Heidi was featured on WE’s Marriage Boot Camp. During the show, Heidi engaged in a role-playing exercise where she reflected on her friendship with Lauren saying, “I was the best friend you’ve ever had. Lauren, I forgive you for being so insecure in your life and so frustrated for everything that you went through that you felt like you had to blame it on me because that was easier, I forgive you for trying to ruin my life.”

However, Lauren decides to take the high road in her Cosmo spread and declined commenting on Heidi’s stint on Marriage Boot Camp. Lauren added, “I’m not really involved in that anymore. I don’t think it has anything to do with me. You just have to focus on the good people in your life. Focusing on what you lose is only going to make you sad.”

Later in the spread, Lauren admits that being a TV star was “sort of an accident,” and she felt no passion for it. However, she now is much more satisfied with her career in the fashion business and hopes to continue on her current path.

Kaspersky Labs: Home of Alleged Overzealous Anti-Virus

0

kaspersky accused of faking malware anti virus 2015 techDon’t people get tired of creating computer viruses, worms, Trojans and malware when there are so many other productive things to do with their time? Why are there so many? They just keep coming so Anti-virus makers continue to make a killing by seeking out and collecting malicious code and selling software that kills these codes. I’ve been told more than once that maybe, these same companies are responsible for some of these viruses in the first place in order to get ahead or stay in the game. Seems possible since you can’t fight a war without making enemies. Now one of these companies, Kaspersky Labs, maker of the award-winning Kaspersky Internet Security no less, is being accused of spreading malware that fools the competition into identifying important system files as malicious.

Kaspersky is being accused by two former employees as being responsible for crippling the computers of people that use non-Kaspersky security software. Considering the source, this could either be dismissed as a simple case of disgruntlement or the real possibility of the horrible practice previously mentioned done by the security industry. It’s a horror story involving some disgruntled hospital nurse or psychotic physician injecting substances into unsuspecting patients causing anaphylactic shock or a cytokine storm.

The alleged Kaspersky malware works in a way that it inserts bad code into ordinary files used by the system. If a user has this malware and uses an anti-virus other than Kaspersky, their anti-virus detects the files as malicious and could either delete the files or send them to quarantine where by the time it will be used by the system, that system can’t find them and won’t be able to print, connect to the network or the system could simply crash.

Kaspersky Labs, one of the world’s biggest security companies of course strongly denies such a practice as would any reputable security company like Symantec, Trend Micro or McAfee. Kaspersky did admit that in 2010, they intentionally spread ‘bad rumors’ about ten harmless files they created themselves created to see if it would slide down the grapevine without anyone checking. Like any other hot scandal, the ten ‘malicious’ files found their way into the lists of other products of Kaspersky’s competitors. Kaspersky did the stunt to prove a point that the competition wasn’t doing any genuine effort in detecting bad code but just following the lead of others which is embodied in the famous Jurassic Park quote by Dr. Ian Malcolm:

“…I’ll tell you the problem with the scientific power that you’re using here, it didn’t require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn’t earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don’t take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you patented it, and packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox…”

The former employees did say that co-founder Eugene Kaspersky was ‘pissed’ that the competition was just copying the company’s efforts instead of developing their own technology. This ten-file misleading by Kaspersky is clearly justifiable but the other accusations have a profound impact at how people will look at security companies.

To sabotage or mislead the competition is one thing, but intentionally creating debilitating malware to stay in business is a very serious matter to which Kaspersky Labs is now accused of. According to the former employees, Eugene created a task force to reverse-engineer the code shared by his competitors to find out what makes them tick and use it in order to sabotage them by making them think some important system files are malicious. So basically, Kaspersky made malware. For the longest time many people have wondered about the non-stop onslaught of computer viruses, worms and Trojans, whether or not they came out of some dark basement born out of some obnoxious nerd’s imagination or the anti-virus makers themselves. After Polio gets eliminated, pharmaceuticals need to come up with some new strain to stay in business, right? It’s also strange that an HIV vaccine is just around the corner but we’re still stuck with the common cold.

It’s a possibility that some security companies may be guilty of creating their own monsters to fight, but there are still tons of real threats out there now, and many of them are not borne out of someone’s sick sense of humor or a psychotic can-do attitude. Many viruses, worms, Trojans and other malware are now after the bottom line. They’re after important information like a user’s credit card information or passwords and credentials that lead to thousands of credit card information. There are malicious bits of code waiting to enter one’s PC that enable other people to take control of it or hold it hostage in exchange for money. So there’s still a very real need by the general population for security software. If there’s going to be any malicious code sabotage done by security companies, it would be amongst themselves but woe is the user caught in the crossfire.

As mentioned, despite the conspiracy theory and paranoia, there are real threats out there and there’s no one else to protect our systems but these security companies. If we can’t trust them, there’s no one else.
