5 young soccer players to watch for in bundesliga 2015 imagesLeroy Sane

The Schalke forward is an exceptionally gifted attacking player who gave the first glimpse of his talent at the highest stage when he struck a fantastic goal against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie last season to ensure a 4-3 win for the Royal Blues. The 19-year-old has been getting increasing first team exposure this season and has already netted two goals as well as provided a solitary assists thus far in the league. He was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, and if he keeps progressing at the same rate, soon enough he will be plying his trade for one of the European giants.

Hakan Calhanoglu

The Turk has been fast making a name for himself for his dead ball skills, but there is more to his game than just his dexterity with free-kicks. The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is blessed with ample talent and has become an indispensable member of Roger Schmidt’s first team at the Bay Arena.

The 21-year-old has continued his stellar form in the 2015/16 season and has already netted five goals from his first ten games across all competitions. Bayer Leverkusen have been drawn in a Champions League group that consists of Roma and Barcelona, meaning Calhanoglu will have plenty of opportunities to showcase his prowess at the highest stage against quality opposition.

Jonathan Tah

The Bayer Leverkusen starlet has moved from Hamuburg this summer and manager Roger Schmidt has featured the youngster in all six of their games thus far, showing the faith he has in the defender’s abilities despite his tender age.

Timo Werner

The 19-year-old is a product of the VfB Stuttgart youth academy. The youngster joined the club as a six-year old and rapidly progressed through the ranks to the first team. He made his senior debut for Stuttgart in 2013 at a tender age of 17 and has been on the up ever since. He has gone on to score eight goals and provided as many assists from his 73 appearances across all competitions so far and has earned comparisons with Bayern Munich stalwart Thomas Muller for his playing style. Although he has played through the centre for the Merecedez-Benz Arena outfit, but his adaptability has also enabled him to be employed on the left side of a three-pronged attack. He is one of the hottest talents in the German league to look out for.

Max Meyer

The Schalke academy is renowned for producing exceptionally talented players over the years. Julian Draxler was one of the best players to have come out of the Royal Blues youth system and now that he has moved to Wolfsburg this summer, the Rhine outfit do not have to look much farther for an able replacement. In Meyer they have one of the highly-rated midfielders in the game. It is just a matter of time before he catches the attentions of some of the giants of the European game.

THE VOICE 903: Manny Cabo & Marriage

the voice 903 marriage proposal 2015It is week 2 of season 9 of The Voice. This week the judges – Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams – continue recruiting their team in blind auditions.

So here’s a recap of some of the highlight performances (good and bad) of the night:

Morgan Frazier

I Want You to Want Me” by Cheap Trick

Two chairs turned – ended up on Team Blake

Morgan was the first performer of the night. She took a unique twist on the classic song “I Want You to Want Me,” adding her obvious country-flare.

Her slowed down version of the hit garnered the attention of both Blake and Gwen, but she inevitably choose fellow country singer Blake Shelton to be her mentor.

Amanda Ayala

“Mississippi Queen” by Mountain

Three chairs turned – ended up on Team Adam

The 17-year-old grew up in a rock n’ roll household. The singer joined her first band when she was 12-years-old, where she shocked audiences with her performances of classic rock songs. To me, her vocals didn’t feel strong enough to carry the ambitious song, however she was able to get three judges to turn their chairs

Jeffrey Austin

“Lay Me Down” by Sam Smith

One chair turned – ended up on Team Gwen

Jeffrey was spot-on when he decided to sing a Sam Smith ballad for his audition. He has a very Sam Smith-esque voice. He delivered a strong performance, while ensuring to add his own personal touches to the hit song.

Lyndsey Elm

“Lips Are Movin’” by Meghan Trainor

Four chairs turned – ended up on Team Gwen

Lyndsey works full-time in her family-owned pest-control business. Although she enjoys working with her family, her true passion lies with music.

Lyndsey definitely added her own flare to the pop song.

Finally, The Voice delivered on a truly unique sounding artist, who obviously has a strong understanding of music. It was not all too surprising that she got all four judges to turn and caused a battle between them in attempt to recruit her.

Ultimately girl power prevails and Lyndsey joined Team Gwen!

Joe Maye

“Word Up” by Cameo

No chairs turned

Although the singer has the looks, he unfortunately didn’t deliver enough in his vocal performance. Joe tried to conquer a clearly high-energy song, but quickly became out-of-breath and unable to fully showcase his singing abilities.

the voice 903 recap many cabo 2015 imagesManny Cabo

“Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake

Four chairs turned – ended up on Team Adam

The 45-year-old photographer took to the stage to prove it’s “never too late” to pursue your passion. Manny reveals that he has been in countless bands in the past – ranging from R&B to Spanish-influenced groups.

Barely a line into the song, Manny gets Adam to turn (who is obviously a fan of his song choice). His well-polished, seasoned vocals had all four judges turn their chairs. Adam was even seen standing on top of his chair, giving Manny a standing ovation. Needless to say, Adam was able to convince Manny to join his team.

Madi Davis

“its Too Late” by Carole King

Two chairs turned – ended up on Team Pharrell.

At a young age, the singer found out she needed reconstructive surgery for her eardrum. After getting the procedure, she found a new appreciation for sound and music.

The singer has a very distinctive, folk-sounding voice. She quickly gets both Gwen and Pharrell to turn their chairs.

Madi is definitely one of the only singers so far in the blind auditions that I may actually remember come the battle rounds.

Chris Crump

Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran

Four chairs turned – ended up on Team Blake

Chris is a 31-year-old musician from Texas. He grew up playing in a band with his family. He chose the Ed Sheeran hit “Thinking Out Loud,” as he is a newlywed and felt he could truly “connect” to the song.

Seconds into his performance he peaked the interest of all four of the judges. He gave a soulful, but more tame performance of the song. Therefore, I am a bit confused to why he caught the judges’ attention so quickly.

Jubal and Amanda

Seven Bridges Road” by The Eagles

Two chairs turned – ended up on Team Pharrell

The night closed out with an act that does something that “has never been seen before on The Voice stage,” as Carson Daly gladly hyped throughout the show. Amanda and her boyfriend Jubal are both music lovers and own a kids music school together.

While the couple doesn’t offer too much more than a well rehearsed country performance of the song, they “floor” the judges when Jubal gets down on one knee and proposes to Amanda.  Of course, on national TV she says yes.

So while mentors Gwen and Blake are in the midst of divorces, The Voice attempts to establish itself as not the wrecker of all marriages, by fostering a new one.

So how many spots are left?

Adam has 5 spots, while Blake, Gwen and Pharrell have just 4 spots left.

And that concludes tonight’s blind auditions. You can catch the next series of auditions tomorrow night on The Voice on ABC at 8/7c.

Julio Jones Emerging Top Wide NFL Receiver Making Atlanta Falcons Top Contenders

0

julio jones emerging wide receiver nfl falcons 2015

The Atlanta Falcons weren’t exactly the most talked about team heading into this season, but at 3-0 they’re starting to make headlines—especially wide receiver Julio Jones.

The former Alabama superstar is sitting on 440 yards and four touchdowns so far this season, including 164 yards and two touchdowns on 12 receptions this past week against the Dallas Cowboys. The craziest part is Jones was held to three catches for 27 yards in the first half by Morris Claiborne.

Things didn’t go Dallas’s way so much after halftime.

“They put him in different spots,” said Claiborne. “They got him underneath. A lot of pick routes. A lot of guys in the way to get him open.”

In the second half, Jones had some more favorable defensive matchups, and a few big plays later, including a 45-yard touchdown on an inside slant, the Falcons came back from an 11-point halftime deficit to top the Cowboys 39-28 and improve to 3-0 on the season.

So the Falcons are undefeated, and Jones now holds the NFL record for most receptions over the first three games (34) and became the first Falcons player to record three 100-yard performances to start the season.

So does this mean the Falcons are legit? Well, that’s hard to say. Julio Jones is legit, that much we know for sure. But I think you’ll understand my skepticism of the team as a whole. After all, the Falcons have only won 10 games over the past two seasons, the sixth-worst record in the league over that time frame.

Sure, the Falcons are already sitting on 50 percent of their win total from last season, but they’ve all been very close games against two teams that haven’t been so hot and then the Cowboys who were without Dez Bryant and Tony Romo.

On top of that, all three of Atlanta’s wins required fourth quarter comebacks. Yes, that says a lot about Matt Ryan and the return to form of Matty Ice, but it also makes you question why they weren’t doing that for the first three quarters of the game.

Unfortunately, the world may never know. The Falcons have arguably the easiest schedule in the NFL, with only the Carolina Panthers and Minnesota Vikings having winning records. As a result, we will have to wait until December 13th when the Falcons travel to Carolina to see if they actually have what it takes to make the playoffs.

Well, maybe the Indianapolis Colts will get it together. Then we’ll find out around Thanksgiving.

Until then, let’s just appreciate the greatness that is Julio Jones.

Keeping Friends Close with the Judicial Redress Act

0

keeping friends close judical redress actWhen a country doesn’t take its citizens’ privacy very seriously, it would be a surprise if its guest fared any better. Poor Ed Snow really did a number on foreign relations when he disclosed classified NSA data to the media. Aside from spying on American citizens, the National Security Agency was also busy spying on foreign nationals, including esteemed guests. One of biggest names to come out of this expose’ was German Chancellor Angela Merkel. She shouldn’t feel so bad though. It’s any security agency’s job to monitor foreign visitors. The same might be true back in Germany. Besides, if the NSA was spying on the country’s own citizens, she shouldn’t expect any less. The practice continues but a new bill is currently in the works that should protect foreign nationals especially from allied countries should their collected records be inappropriately disclosed.

It’s an open secret. All foreign visitors should be monitored for their security and the country’s. What’s embarrassing is for any visitor’s name to be disclosed in the news as if they can’t be trusted. It’s actually embarrassing to both sides; that the country is spying on allied diplomats like Merkel and that Merkel and party are being monitored for any suspicious activity. It’s a necessary evil as long as the whole thing is kept under wraps. If you’d remember the scenario in Olympus Has Fallen. Hidden North Korean terrorist operatives within the South Korean delegation combined with possible sleeper cells managed to take over the White House. Highly unlikely but possible. Monitoring foreign officials, visitors and non-US citizens is a necessity as nowadays, everyone wants a piece of the US. Remember the Tsarnaevs?

It’s been years since the unpleasant revelation and the US is still doing damage control. One measure to somewhat dampen the situation is to extend privacy rights to non-US citizens. Not that they’d be obviously, actively monitored but to a point that they‘re allowed to view the collected data and that they’d have the right to seek legal measures if the records are disclosed or misused. Americans and permanent residents apparently have such rights under the Privacy Act of 1974. The act allows them to check their records, correct any mistakes and sue any agency that misuses those records. The new act mostly applies to important allies of the US, especially the European Union. Merkel would be pleased.

The proposal known as the Judicial Redress Act has the approval of many tech firms as it’s another step towards privacy to their foreign customers. These customers were highly affected when the Snowden scandal came out. American firms are now hard-pressed to win the trust of potential foreign customers and ensure that services will be discreet. In fact, Microsoft is currently embroiled in a legal tussle with the government involving the disclosure of a customer’s Hotmail account based in Ireland. Microsoft earned some unlikely allies in this case like Apple and the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

“…that degradation of trust has translated into significant negative commercial consequences for U.S. firms, with global consumers choosing technology solutions from other providers…Additionally, the revelations have led a number of foreign governments to consider proposals that would impede the borderless nature of the internet – the very characteristic that has permitted the Internet to thrive,”

— Business Software Alliance, Consumer Electronics Association and other tech groups

The proponents of the Judicial Redress Act include Facebook, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo. These are tech firms without borders. These companies also believe that the Privacy Act of 1974 should also be updated to cope with the borderless nature of the internet. The JRA needs to be enacted as soon as possible if US citizens expect the same treatment abroad and will also aid in the data exchange agreement with the EU for terrorist and criminal investigations. The passing of the bill should also help in the long-debated measure of sharing passenger manifests between the US and the EU vice-versa, which could really help in case any unsavory chaps should smuggle themselves to and from both continents.

The bill, if passed will be good news to foreign citizens on American soil that they can at least be able to defend themselves in case government spying goes south. With regards to being monitored, any guest knows the host has an eye out for them. It all depends on how extensive and intrusive it gets. After all, the host can only direct guests to the restroom, not go in after them.

Kim Davis Gets Pope’s Support & Drake Declares Meek Mill Dead

Here we are on the start of the work week and I’ve got some gossip and news highlights to get you through because ya know, we all need a break from reality sometimes. Kim Davis has got a supporter in Pope Francis, Drake kills off Meek Mill and Momma Dee was wrongfully arrested, according to her.

pope francis supports kim davis 2015 gossipPope Francis Lends Support to Kim Davis

The Pope may have rustled some feathers with his comments that clearly support the woman everyone has grown to hate. He told reporters aboard his plane as he made his way home from his visits to the U.S. and Cuba that he believes people like Kim Davis have a right to violate governmental laws if they interfere with their conscience.

While he didn’t directly reference Kim Davis, when asked “Do you … support those individuals, including government officials, who say they cannot in good conscience, their own personal conscience, abide by some laws or discharge their duties as government officials, for example when issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples” he has this to say.

“”I can’t have in mind all the cases that can exist about conscientious objection … but yes, I can say that conscientious objection is a right that is a part of every human right. It is a right. And if a person does not allow others to be a conscientious objector, he denies a right.”

His stance should come as no surprise as he has been clear on what he feels is right when it comes to gay marriage. It should also come as no surprise that his answer spoke to various issues. He is a master at telling people what they don’t want to hear in a non-threatening way which I am convinced is the reason why so many love him.

drake kills off meek mill beef 2015 gossipDrake Disses Meek Mill, Beef Still Going?

So when you are Drake or someone with his caliber, you can almost do no wrong, right? If he is not making hit records, trendy mixtapes or dating the likes of Serena Williams, he’s saying whatever the hell he wants. And if that means dissing Meek Mill…again… then so be it.

If you don’ know about Drake and Meek Mill’s beef, seriously, where have you been the whole summer. Meek dissed him first on Twitter, Drake responded with two diss tracks, Meek eventually responded with one diss track which was like he didn’t respond at all (yea it was pretty wack).

It seemed that the beef was over, with Meek finally saying after being made fun of so badly, that he doesn’t have time for the bull crap but Drake may have reignited the flame during a concert over the weekend.

While performing at the Landmark Music Festival in D.C. the crowd started chanting, “fuck Meek.” Drake let them and then clued them into this.

“Don’t worry about it; he’s already dead.”

Damn Drake I thought it was all said and done why you still throwing shade? Maybe it still has something to do with Nicki Minaj since everyone pretty much figured she was the cause of the beef in the first place. But he’s with Serena Williams now so IDK what Drake is doing.

He probably feels so big and bad that he just doesn’t care.

momma dee arrested 2015 gossipMomma Dee of LHHATL Arrested for Skipping Restaurant Bill?

You know how it is. You go out to eat, you get a little carried away you run up the bill, it’s too much so you bounce. Oh you’ve never done that? Oh… Me neither. But apparently Momma Dee of Love and Hip Hop Atlanta does.

She was arrested for supposedly not paying her $500 restaurant bill but she claims she was not at fault. The incident happened in Milwaukee and “fraud on inn keeper-nonpayment” was cited as the offense. The story goes she was celebrating her birthday with a group of friends but no one paid the bill so she was arrested and later released on $250 bail. Momma Dee of course is calling the whole situation a misunderstanding.

According to her, she was a part of a dinner party that happened to leave while she was in the bathroom and thus the managers of the restaurant thought they dined and dashed and called the police since she was the only person left when the smoke cleared.

This is one interesting situation for sure. I mean, how long was she in the bathroom and what kind of friends does she have that they would just leave her with the bill like that? That’s some pretty messed up shit. Especially since it was her birthday.

Can we do a go fund me or something for Momma Dee to get some new friends?

NFL Winners & Losers Week 3 2015

0

nfl winners losers week 3 2015 images julio jonesWeek three in the NFL saw some good games early, but three lopsided games in the afternoon. The SNF game was more competitive with Denver relying on their defense once again for a win, handing Detroit their third loss of the young season.

My Falcons came back from the dead to shock Cowboys fans who likely got really drunk at halftime to celebrate the greatness of their run game and Brandon Weeden.

Kam Chancellor made his 2015 debut after a wasted holdout.

Tom Brady added more accolades to his brilliant career. Why even keep stats on Brady? It would be simpler if we only tracked his numbers in the Super Bowl appearances, which are close to half of an NFL season at this point.

It was another great Sunday of NFL balling. Here’s a look at the most notable winners and losers.

NFL Grown Man of the week: Julio Jones has 34 catches in just three games. That’s a record if you are into that kind of thing. Jones is being fed the ball like crazy, which is what should happen when the best wide out in the game is on your roster. Best in the game, just as I said in the preseason.

NFL Child of the Week: Hopefully Kam Chancellor never sees this post. He’s got a mean disposition. Don’t these guys who hold out have any pride at all? Every single one of them eventually caves after their holdout fails to work. NFL players need their paychecks just like the average guy working a blue collar job. Kam didn’t come back to save his 0-2 Seahawks. He came back to pay his bills.

Winner: Tom Brady is more about winning than he is about numbers. However, getting to 400 TD throws is a nice stat to have under your belt, even if you are Tom Brady, he of four Super Bowl wins.

Loser: Teddy Bridgewater. I tried to go against the grain with Teddy in a big money tournament on DraftKings to beat the odds with an outlier. He had an ownership rate of .3%. That is a little too contrarian to work apparently. Teddy looked good in the preseason and in week one, but has slipped the past two weeks.

Winner: Le’Veon Bell picked up right where he left off last year. He only managed 62 yards rushing, but added 70 as a receiver. Kid is one of the top three most dangerous offensive players in the NFL.

Loser: Big Ben is out for at least four weeks after spraining his knee. Mike Vick takes over a high powered offense and lucky for him Le’Veon Bell is back after his suspension.

Winner: Devonta Freeman took advantage of his opportunity against Dallas on Sunday. He had been an afterthought early this year with Tevin Coleman running so well, but Freeman went off for three scores, 141 yards rushing, and added 52 receiving yards for Atlanta.

Loser: Chicago may be the worst team in the NFL with Jay Cutler healthy. Without him, they are absolutely the worst and now sit at 0-3.

Winner: Why is Steve Smith retiring? The old man is the best (only) weapon Baltimore has this year and is a weekly highlight reel. He could start for any team in the NFL and make an impact at least one more year after 2015.

Loser: The Miami Dolphins look really bad and their only win is over the Redskins. This team was supposed to compete with New England for the AFC East with an improved defense. Looks like the Bills and the Jets will have to challenge New England and that went badly for Buffalo last week.

Winner: Andy Dalton had a big day with four touchdowns and his #1 receiver AJ Green went off as well. These two are a lethal combo and with the Bengals defense it’s hard to imagine this team not going deep into the playoffs. We have thought that before however.

Loser: Marshawn Lynch left the Bears game with a hamstring injury and did not return. It doesn’t look like Lynch will be out an extended amount of time according to Pete Carroll so that’s good news for Seattle fans. Lynch last missed a game in 2011.

Winner: Brandon Weeden had a big first half for Dallas as he filled in for Tony Romo. He completed his first nine passes and led his team to 28 first half points.

Loser: Brandon Weeden. Had the Boys won this game, all the talk would have been about how Weeden stepped up when his team needed him. In the loss we can see how Weeden’s stats didn’t really help his team in the second half, in which the Dallas offense was shut out. Most of his passes were short dump offs to backs to make sure he didn’t turn the ball over. His one turnover was a costly one that set the Falcons up for a quick score in the first half that kept the game close.

Winner: Adrian Peterson is just as good as he was before being suspended for the spanking incident. He rambled for 126 yards in a beat down of San Diego.

Loser: Colin Kaperknick is not a good NFL quarterback. He may go off for a huge game here and there as the season develops, but as a passer he is below average. Being a good fantasy QB because of his legs will not help San Francisco in the win column this year. He threw four picks against Arizona, two of which were returned for TDs.

Winner: Tyler Lockett is going to be the bright spot on special teams in the League for 2015. Kid has crazy speed and a knack for not getting touched on kick returns, he torched Chicago for a 105 yard TDon Sunday. Not bad for a rookie.

Loser: Detroit dropped to 0-3, making their playoff hopes almost nonexistent. Only five teams have made the playoffs in NFL history after an 0-3 start and I would not bet on Detroit making it six.

La Liga Midweek Review

0

la liga midweek review ronaldo soccer 2015Real Madrid

Rafael Benitez took Los Blancos to the San Mames for their fifth round of La Liga action. Athletic Bilbao are always formidable opponents and they play even better in front of their cheering home fans. Benitez’s men are currently enjoying rich vein of form and heading into their clash against the Basque giants, they were on a four-match winning streak across all competitions.

At the San Mames, a defensive error allowed Karim Benzema to open the scoring for the visitors, who looked by far the better side, despite the heavy pressing employed by Ernesto Valverde’s men. They eventually pulled one back in the second half, but Real Madrid secured all three points when Benzema scored his second of the night towards the fag end of the match.

The win has put Real Madrid on top of the league standings early in the season and if their squad depth is anything to go by, they look primed to take the league title from Barcelona this season.

Barcelona

Just like Real Madrid, Barcelona, too, had a difficult away fixture to negotiate as they went to Balaidos to take on high-flying Celta Vigo. The Catalans headed in to the match on the back of a 100 per cent record in the league matches, but their record was in danger as Celta Vigo have enjoyed a prolific run of form themselves and were at home against the Catalans.

The match started at a breakneck speed and the hosts made Barcelona suffer with their relentless pressing and quick movement and passing across the turf that threatened to break the deadlock in the early exchanges. Barcelona were forced to make many last ditch clearances and tackles to keep parity. And the hosts’ perseverance finally paid off when Nolito struck beautifully over Marc Andre ter Stegen to put his team in front.

The front duo of Iago Aspas and Nolito created all sorts of problems for the visitors and on the other hand, the trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez looked completely off colour. The match ended in a 4-1 loss for the reigning Spanish champions and their loss has handed the initiative to Real Madrid in the title race.

Atletico Madrid

Diego Simone’s men were up against Getafe, who they hosted at the Vicente Calderon in their fifth league match of the season. Apart from their home loss to Barcelona, Los Rojiblancos have looked irrepressible this season and were expected to get all three points against the unfancied visitors.

Antoine Griezmann, who was linked with a move to Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea in the summer and has started the season in prolific form, scored in the fifth minute of the match to put his team ahead early on. He struck again in the 90th minute to seal all three points for the hosts and swelled his personal tally for the season to five goals in all competitions.

These are still early days in the league season, but all three top La Liga teams are showing great potential to take the race for the league title down to the wire.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City Soccer 2015

0

tottenham hotspur vs manchester city soccer 2015 imagestottenham hotspur vs manchester city soccer 2015 imagesIn the biggest match of the seventh round of the 2015/16 Premier League season, Tottenham Hotspur will play host to title contenders and current league leaders Manchester City at White Hart Lane.

The Citizens have enjoyed a prolific start to their Premier League campaign as they look to wrest the title back from Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea. They won their first five games on the trot and not just the wins, but the manner in which they went about their business must have made their opponents nervous.

However, their domestic form didn’t translate into European football as they lost 2-1 to reigning Italian champions and 2015 Champions League finalists Juventus in their opening match of the 2015/16 Champions League at the Etihad Stadium. That loss followed another 2-1 reverse, this time at the hands of West Ham United in the Premier League, thereby destroying the Citizens’ perfect start to the league season.

They recovered in the midweek and defeated Premier League strugglers Sunderland 4-1 in the third round of the League Cup at the Stadium of Light to get back some semblance of form back.

Ominously for Tottenham Hotspur, summer signing Kevin De Bruyne has not taken much time to get acclimatised to his new team and has already netted twice – once in the defeat against West Ham United and then against Sunderland in the League Cup win. Raheem Sterling has been causing problems on the left wing and will likely wreak havoc at White Hart Lane.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have experienced contrasting fortunes in their Premier League start. They began their league journey with a loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford and then endured three successive draws – one of which was against Stoke City when they let go off a two goal lead to allow the Britannia Stadium outfit back in the game and eventually secure a solitary point.

However, they have won their last two league games against Sunderland and Crystal Palace, albeit with a narrow 1-0 margin.

The Lilywhites played a high-voltage fixture in north London derby when they came up against Arsenal in the midweek in a League Cup encounter. The Gunners inflicted a 2-1 defeat and eliminated their bitter rivals out of the domestic cup competition.

Pochettino faces the daunting task of regrouping his charges for another difficult game and will be hoping that they rise up to the challenge of facing the current league leaders on Saturday.

Spurs’ summer signing Heung-Min Son has started his White Hart Lane career on a bright note as he netted a brace against Qarabag in a Europa League clash and followed it up with a solitary strike against Crystal Palace that gave his side a narrow 1-0 win over the Eagles.

Nevertheless, the north Londoners are still waiting for Harry Kane to get on the scoresheet in the Premier League as the form of their leading striker is essential if they are to challenge for a spot in the top four and more immediately, if they are to get past Manchester City this weekend.

FEAR THE WALKING DEAD 105 Cobalt Recap

Well we got a look at the military headquarters this week on “Fear the Walking Dead.” It was about what I had expected, a basic detention center. A death camp if you will. Crazy Doug is pinned up with a salesman who is a little off himself, but seems to be pretty shrewd as well. Doug is a sobbing mess and sales guy isn’t helping the situation by telling him how Dougie’s wife will be OK if she trades her body for protection during this apocalypse.

Just what you want to hear while sitting in a cage. Little Nick is in the same cell that is apparently for those with loose screws or drug dependencies.

Back at the subdivision, Ofelia Salazar is tripping. She has commenced throwing bottles and bricks at the fence, shouting at the military patrol there. She wants to see her mom and she is pissed! Her “boyfriend” soldier tries to calm her down to keep the peace. It becomes apparent these soldiers are stressed to the max and dissent is setting in as well.

Chris is upset with his mommy being gone so Travis has to handle him, not to mention Maddie is still not pleased with her dope head son being snatched up by the military. Travis could use a vacation. Dealing with a zombie uprising and all these family issues has got to be taking a toll on the guy. I imagine alcoholism would rise greatly in a real national meltdown.

We later see Travis trying to get the military commander to bring their people back. Silly request. Lt. Moyers is all business and besides, he had the people taken in the first place. He’s not just going to change his mind. He does tell Travis he will take him to headquarters to see his people though.

The Lieutenant tells Travis, “I can do anything I want to, I’ve got guns.”

Daniel Salazar has taken matters into his own hands and plans on getting his wife back with different tactics. Maddie finds Salazar and his daughter in the basement with her boyfriend soldier tied to a chair. This is going to go badly for all involved I would guess. I know it’s going to end badly for the young man duct taped to a chair by a barber with lots of sharp instruments.

It doesn’t take long for this National Guardsman to spill the beans. He tells Daniel lots of information long before any torture has begun. Kid just wants up from that chair.

Travis’ trip to the medical center / death camp is quite an adventure. These soldiers have made a sport out of killing the walkers. Lt. Moyers forces Travis shoot a poor bug eyed walker they spot during their drive. He is about to go through with it, but backs out when he sees the girl’s name tag. Travis can’t get over the fact that these creatures are, or at least were, humans.

It seems like there should be more walkers around than we are seeing. If not more walkers, more survivors. Maybe they are all concentrated in the downtown area where the riots were happening.

Daniel is getting plenty of intel from his hostage. The young man has been sliced up pretty good by the brutal barber and has told him about some nasty duties he and his fellow Guardsmen have been a part of. “Cobalt” has been a big keyword on the radios and Daniel wants to know what it means.

While the adults are getting stuff done, the kids are playing dress up. Chris and Alicia are going through a nicer home in the neighborhood and eventually start smashing all the nice vases, china, and destroying the entire interior. This beautiful home is wrecked in a hurry, just like the society these teenagers were a part of just weeks ago.

I don’t know what the salesman, Strand, thinks he is getting by saving Nick from being tossed in the sickly area of the medical facility. He thinks he is obligating Nick to help him when the time comes, but we have seen Nick is just out for himself. But Stand thinks being a heroin addict is going to be useful. It may well be in a weird way since the drug addict is good at sneaking around and getting in and out of places to get his fix by stealing.

Travis’ little road trip ends when the reckless soldiers get over run and two of them leave their buddies behind. They tell Travis they are headed out of town to their families and will drop Travis off near his house.

Oh and Cobalt is the code name for an operation that has the military evacuating the area the next morning. Just the military! All the civilians will be left behind, at best. Terminated in a humane way, at worst.

Liza finds Griselda Salazar with her foot whacked off and very sick with septic shock. Mrs. Salazar is rambling about the devil and maybe God too as death approaches her. Once she expires, Dr. Exner brings out the live stock killing tool. Daniel is not going to be happy about his soul mate being killed like a dimwitted cow. It might make him do some real nasty stuff…..well he’s already crossed that bridge.

The episode wraps with Daniel coming up on the arena where so many walkers are locked inside. The soldier had told him about how they locked over 2,000 infected folks in there when things got out of hand. Inside were people not yet sick too when the military locked them in. It’s a bad scene behind those doors.

I’m not sure if that was Staples Center or not. Seems like there would be more than 2,000 people in a place that big, but it sure resembled it.

Next week will wrap up the first season of Fear the Walking Dead. I’ve enjoyed this mini season. I don’t know if these characters can stand up to the standard set by Rick Grimes, Michonne, Carol and Daryl in the original WD series. But to be fair it took more than one season for these characters to develop into ones that we know and care about.

It’s hard to see Travis being the leader that Rick is, but Rick went through quite a bit to become the type of man willing to go to any extreme to keep his people alive.

The rest of the characters do have me interested with their diversity. A barber with no conscience, a heroin addict, and newly introduced slick salesman are just a few people that will make this series compelling.

See ya next week for the finale and be nice to your hair stylist.

Justin Bieber Gets Complex & Gigi Hadid Takes On Cyber Bullies

justin bieber complex interview selena gomez 2015 gossipJustin Bieber is featured in the latest issue of Complex Magazine. In the magazine, the 21-year-old pop star opens up about his past relationship with ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez.

Bieber candidly reveals that he now feels that Selena was “way too much, way too early” in his life.

Justin explains, “We were so in love. Nothing else mattered. We were all about each other. But when it’s like that and you get your value from that, people will always disappoint you. Your girl or your dude, they’re always going to disappoint you. Your full identity can’t be in that person. My identity was in her. Her identity was in me.”

Although Bieber acknowledges that his relationship with Selena ended in heartbreak, he also said it was a good learning experience for him. He notes, “I learned a lot. I moved in with my girlfriend when I was 18. Started my own life with her. It was a marriage kind of thing. Living with a girl, it was just too much at that age.”

justin bieber complex 2015 gossipHe goes on to say, “When stuff would happen, I would lose my freakin’ mind and she would lose her mind, and we would fight so hard because we were so invested in each other. Love is a choice. Love is not a feeling. People have made it seem in movies that it’s this fairy tale. “

In the interview, Justin also comments to Complex about his 2013 incident, where he was caught “pissing in a bucket” while at a nightclub. Justin noted, “Honestly, I think pissing in the bucket wasn’t as big as people made it seem…honestly, imagine, you hear f**king Ozzy Osbourne pisses backstage. Immediately, ‘Oh, he’s a freaking rock star!’ As soon as I do it, ‘He’s a brat.’”

Justin then calls out the cop who pulled him over in 2014, while he was reportedly speeding and drag racing in Miami. Justin explains, “The police, they just wanted press; they wanted attention. I never was speeding; I never was drag racing…the cop supposedly wanted to be famous for arresting celebrities, and someone had heard him say that prior to [my arrest].”

gigi hadid goes after cyber bullies 2015 gossipSupermodel Gigi Hadid decided to stand up for herself, after cyber bullies decided to attack the model’s figure following her appearance in New York Fashion Week.

As the 20-year-old jets off to rule the runway at Paris’ Fashion Week, she decided to send a message in an Instagram post directed at her haters. The post reads:

“So many people are so quick to comment negative opinions this month. Yes, judgment on social media comes from people who, 99% of the time, have no idea what they’re talking about, but I’m human, and I’m not going to lie, I did let the negativity get to me a little…I came to a realization that when one gets to this point, it’s important to rethink why you’re doing what you do. What your message is. What you have to say.

No, I don’t have the same body type as the other models in the show. No, I don’t think I’m the best at any given show. Yes, I want to have a unique walk but I also know I have to improve. No, I’m not the first or the last model of my type in this industry. You can make up all the reasons you think I am where I am, but really, I’m a hard worker that’s confident in myself, one that came at a time where the fashion industry was ready for a change. I’m just doing my job. I represent a body image that wasn’t accepted in high-fashion before, and I’m very lucky to be supported by the designers, stylists, and editors that I am…Yes, I have boobs, I have abs, I have a butt, I have thighs, but I’m not asking for special treatment. I’m fitting into the sample sizes. Your mean comments don’t make me want to change my body…”

BACK TO THE FUTURE 30th Anniversary Time Travel Thoughts

0

This post brought to you by Universal. The content and opinions expressed below are that of Movie TV Tech Geeks.

With the 30th anniversary of the hit movie Back to the Future approaching, Universal is re-releasing the movie on blu-ray on October 21, 2015. This is the date is particularly special as it is that day that Doc Brown and Marty McFly visit in Back to the Future Part II, as they try and prevent Marty Jr. from going to jail.

In addition, the animated series will also be released for the first time ever on DVD and the movies will be screened in theaters to mark the anniversary.

So in the theme of Back to the Future, I thought about what I would do with the ability to time travel.

One event I would travel to would be Apple’s initial public offering on December 12, 1980.  I would definitely invest as much as I could, knowing that in the next 30 years the stock’s value would increase by over 10,000%. The company is worth billions of dollars now and an investment of about $5000 back in 1980 would have yielded over $1.5 million today. On top of that, I would probably also look at buying some properties, as I now know just how much housing and lot prices have gone up in value in the next few decades.

In addition, I think I would also travel back to when I was about 4-5 years old. Now looking back I regret wanting to be a teenager or older the whole time. I definitely would want to relive my elementary school years having realized that those are probably the most carefree time in our lives.

After some traveling to the past, I would also love to travel into the future. First, I think I would want to go forward about 50 years and see where the world is going to be when I am older. Hopefully, there will be lots of innovation in cures of diseases and also inventions that allow us to lead more sustainable lives on Earth.

Next, I would also want to travel very far into the future, like 1000-2000 years. I am curious to see if the recent claim saying that we are entering the Earth’s latest extinction has any truth to it. The study that was published in Science Advances journal stated that humans have accelerated the loss of species in the past few hundred years and that with the loss of biodiversity, we are bound to be facing extinction in the relatively near future. Therefore, I would be interested to see if humans will be able to stop this natural process. And if we are still living happily on Earth then, I wonder how we are able to maintain some sort of standard of living since I assume that our population has continued to grow larger and larger.

Going far into the future would also have me wondering about where we are in space travel. As our space endeavors become more and more adventurous, it wouldn’t be that hard to believe that there were people inhabiting other planets or that space travel had become a public service.

This far forward, I can’t even begin to imagine what our methods of communication would be like. Will we still be talking through devices? Or will we be holograms that can pop up in front of whoever we want to communicate with?

In conclusion, I think the idea of time travel really presents itself with so many opportunities. I would love to go into the past to be part of events that I know will forever be crucial parts of history. I would also love to go into the future to see the innovations of tomorrow and what humans are capable of creating as technology and our knowledge base advances. However, the future is a bit unknown considering the current unsustainability that plagues many industries in the world. It would be interesting to know whether we continue to expand our knowledge or if our negative impacts on the world (i.e. specie extinction, global warming, etc.) begin to limit where humans are able to go in the future.

Nonetheless, if I have learned anything from Marty McFly, it is definitely that you have to be careful when playing with your past and future because you never know just how it will affect the present.

Be sure to check out the anniversary release pack of Back to the Future, which includes all 3 movies, additional content and more.

If you could travel to a specific moment in time, which would you choose?

Peyton Manning & Gary Kubiak Relationship Getting Rocky in Denver

0

petyon manning gary kubiak relationship broncos nfl 2015The Denver Broncos are a very sloppy 3-0 right now after a number of close calls and a handful of great defensive plays. In fact, the Broncos are traveling to Ford Field to take on the Detroit Lions at the bottom of the barrel in total yards. Definitely not something we’ve come to expect from a Peyton Manning led offense.

Sure, Peyton is getting older, but if the second half of the Thursday Night Football matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs is an indicator, he hasn’t slowed down too much—that is, when he’s allowed to run the offense his way.

First-year head coach Gary Kubiak came in with the intention of working his system around the Broncos’ star quarterback. So far we haven’t seen much of that. The Week One outing against the Baltimore Ravens didn’t give much hope for the future as Manning was sacked four times and only able to complete 60 percent of his passes for 175 yards and a pick-six. It took a matching Aqib Talib pick-six on Joe Flacco to win that game.

The Chiefs game started out just as poorly. Manning couldn’t get anything going, C.J. Anderson was no help in the run game, and the offensive line was still atrocious. At halftime, Manning said enough is enough and convinced Kubiak to switch to a shotgun-based offense. Manning had three touchdowns after the switch including a game tying drive and touchdown with less than a minute left in the game.

Despite the proven success of Manning’s leadership and offensive style for the Broncos both this past Thursday and over the past three seasons, Kubiak announced this week that they would be sticking with his conventional scheme.

“You stay committed to what you believe in,” said Coach Kubiak. “You don’t run away from something, you keep working at it.”

The Broncos aren’t in a rebuilding stage yet. They will be after Manning retires. Maybe you should stick with what works, Gary. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.
