NBA Recap: Golden State & Steph Curry In Charge

0

nba recap golden state steph curry in charge 2015 imagesThe weekend of action is over in the National Basketball Association with the Golden State Warriors, the defending champions this season, remaining undefeated. The Warriors, playing on their home court this weekend, were forced to make a fourth quarter comeback on Saturday against the Brooklyn Nets. After doing so, GS protected their undefeated status in overtime, and they have separated themselves by at least two games from the other strong teams in the NBA.

Sitting atop the Pacific Division, Golden State are an amazing 11-0, a record that makes them clear front-runners in their division. The Los Angeles Clippers sit second in the Pacific. However, they are a four-loss team already this season. The Warriors appear as though they are going to be so stingy with their losses that a four-game lead, even this early in the season, looms very large.

In the Western Conference, the other division leaders are both Oklahoma City and San Antonio, two teams that are 6-4 and 7-2 respectively. In the Eastern Conference, the division leaders at this point are Toronto in the Atlantic (7-4), Cleveland in the Central (8-2), and Atlanta in the Southeast (8-4).

A major reason for Golden State’s success thus far has clearly been the play of Steph Curry. Last year’s MVP is making a strong case to repeat for the coveted award. Through 11 games, Curry is averaging an incredible 33.4 points per, a five-point margin on James Harden of the Houston Rockets. Curry is doing so in part behind a three-point percentage mark of 45.2%, a conversion rate that is good enough for near-best in the association so far.

While Lebron James was considered the favorite for the MVP Award during both the pre-season and the early going of the regular season, it is Curry’s play that has won people over thus far. For example, in late October, Curry was 6 to 1 to win the MVP Award with Betway for the best price; the guard is now 8 to 5 with another firm (SportingBet). At least one writer has argued that Curry, and not James, should be regarded as “the best basketball player on the planet” now (Cork Gaines; trove.com).

Other statistical leaders include Andre Drummond of the Detroit Pistons, a player who is averaging 19 boards per game. However, the Pistons, after a hot start, have regressed in the Central Division as they are now just 5-5.

Russell Westbrook is currently leading the league in assists with 10.3 per game. His Thunder are not off to a great start. However, they are still in the lead in their division.

Intriguing games this upcoming week include one on Tuesday. The Toronto Raptors will travel to Oakland to face Golden State in what will be a game between division leaders. On Thursday, the Warriors will travel down to Los Angeles to face the Clippers. On Friday, the Chicago Bulls will be at Golden State while the weekend games will include a match-up between Atlanta and Cleveland, two division leaders at the moment.

‘The Walking Dead’ 606 Daryl’s Back with Always Accountable

the walking dead 606 daryls back with always accountable 2015 imagesThis week’s “The Walking Dead” recap is brought to you by Milford Memorial Funeral Home, who reminds you to make sure your dearly departed are completely dead before placing flowers at their side.

Where should I start with this week’s Walking Dead recap? Daryl‘s double cross and a new deadly group on the horizon? Or maybe I should jump right into the sexual tension between two crazy members of Team Grimes, Sasha and Abraham.

Let me open with Daryl getting separated from Sasha and Abe when they are all attacked by several gun-wielding humans. The herd is now roaming with no car or motorcycle to follow. So is that the last we see of the giant herd or is there more to come next week? Seems kind of inhumane to leave a herd of Walkers with no clear direction. I feel as though that group was on the verge of getting their undead lives back on track.

The setting that Daryl found himself in was a burnt forest, and he ends up captured by a guy and two women. They apparently took part in the burning of the forest. These three survivors have their “own code”, and that does not involve any kneeling, which is apparently a prerequisite for staying in the good graces of the larger group that shot at Daryl and company.

It didn’t take long for Daryl to escape the non-threatening threesome. He bounced as soon as they were distracted, but being the good guy he did return to them to hand over their insulin kit. Good deeds are rarely rewarded in this world, though.

As Daryl was trying to do the right thing, Sasha and Abraham were hold up in the building waiting on the tracker to find them. Sasha is very smart and leaving breadcrumbs for Daryl was the right play in the end.

She had to keep Abraham in check as he is determined to live on the edge. The big red head didn’t care for her psychoanalysis, mostly because she was very accurate.

This episode did two things:

  • Introduce us to the next group of advisories for Team Grimes.
  • Open up the possibility of a romance between Abe and Sasha….what about Rosita?

Daryl got caught up in survivor drama as he returned their medical supply. He had to help them escape from the group led by some dude named Wayne. This Wayne had the line of the night when he told his comrade to “walk it off,” right after he had to amputate his buddy’s arm. Dude was probably a hard-ass high school wrestling coach back in the real world.

I’ve got a feeling that Rick and company will put the RPGs Abe found to good use in the near future. Those cigars will never be shared, though. Those may be the only things that keep Abe from going completely over the edge. Maybe his face to face talk with the zombie stuck on a metal pole was his low point, and Abraham can get back to 100% mentally after this little outing.

Once again we see the carnage caused by Team Grimes. Isn’t it ironic that all these survivors have actually survived all this time…until they run into one of Rick’s people. The threesome Daryl ran into all appeared relatively healthy, but within a few hours of running into Mr. Dixon, one of them is dead!

For all the survival knowledge that Team Grimes likes to espouse, it would have been a good idea for Daryl to advise the young girl not to lean down beside her dead friends in that little shed. He didn’t do any warning, and she became a quick meal.

Events like that are not exactly a good recruiting model for him and Aaron.

Near the end of the episode, Daryl gets double crossed by the remaining two survivors. They jack his bike and crossbow but don’t harm him otherwise. The lady says she’s sorry, and Daryl responds with, “You’re gonna be.” Nice line and, of course, he’s dead on.

Somehow a giant fuel truck survived the forest fire, and Daryl uses it to get back to Sasha and Abraham. They are headed back to Alexandria I assume, but still no sign of the herd. I have a feeling this new group is going to follow them back to the city and set up a future attack. Or maybe Rick decides to take the offensive after Daryl informs him of the group once he, Abe and Sasha return to the safety of the walls.

Episode six flew by as it had plenty of action. I’m not too excited about the crazies in love storyline, but Daryl can carry any episode in which he is the focal point.

I do hate that they have left us hanging with the herd lingering. I wanted to know where they would eventually lead them. Maybe Rick’s plan was just to lead them far enough away so they would never find their way home.

I guess I was just hoping for a big payoff like having the herd walk off a giant cliff or being trapped in a tunnel somehow.

No big deal. There’s always next week and another big problem to deal with….like the Wolf on house arrest inside Alexandria, any remaining Wolves on the outside,  this new big group, and the the babysitting of the Townies of Alexandria.

‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ 1101 That Was Then, It’s Now Recap

keeping up with the kardashians 1101 that was then 2015 imagesThe 11th season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians kicked off tonight. In the premiere episode, the Kardashian-Jenners attend the ESPYs, while Kourtney struggles with her new status as single and Khloe bares it all for Complex magazine.

At the end of the last season, fans got to see the immediate aftermath of the photos that surfaced showing Scott Disick cuddling up to another girl. In the new season, it is revealed that Kourtney officially broke up with Scott (which many of us already know).

At the beginning of the episode, Kim discusses Scott with her mom Kris. Kim says that she read online that Scott is doing fine and is happily telling people he is single.

Kim and Kris go over to Kourtney’s house to try and make sure she is okay. Although Kourtney remains strong, she is obviously struggling with being single after nine years of dating Scott. While Kim and Kris tell her that she is going to find that special someone, Kourtney says she doesn’t want to care for anyone else and is looking to focus solely on her three young children.

Later in the episode, Khloe confronts Kris about her relationship with Corey Gamble. Kris reveals that she is still in a committed relationship with Corey and is doing a lot better than she was at the end of last season. Kris was openly struggling with her ex Caitlyn Jenner’s transitioning. However, it looks like she is in a much better place.

Next, Kim is shown trying to convince Khloe to do a sexy photo shoot to show off her incredibly toned body. Khloe discusses being called the fat, ugly sister in the past and how people continue to bring up unflattering pictures from her past. Kim tells her she should shoot a whole bunch of new photos so that they can replace all of the bad pictures from Khloe’s past. However, Khloe is hesitant about showing off her body and is much more private when it comes to bearing her assets on the cover of a magazine than her sister Kim is.

Ultimately, Kim winds up calling Complex magazine and getting them to offer Khloe the cover. After some convincing Khloe decides to do the shoot, even though she continues to be nervous about the whole situation.

At the shoot, everyone raves over how amazing Khloe looks. The shoot ended up being massively successful and got incredible amounts of attention and coverage in the media.

The episode also shows a glimpse of the younger sisters, Kylie and Kendall Jenner. The two are shown being very nervous about the ESPY event, which marks the first public appearance that their father Caitlyn Jenner is speaking at as a woman. Unfortunately, their nervous energy triggers a fight between the two sisters, as Kylie refuses to lend Kendall any of her (millions of) dresses. Nonetheless, the two sisters get over their spat and walk the ESPY carpet together.

All of the five sisters (Khloe, Kim, Kourtney, Kendall and Kylie) invite Kris to dinner after the ESPYs, as they want to ensure that she doesn’t feel isolated from the family. Since they all went to the ESPYs to support Caitlyn, they wanted to also show their support for Kris. At dinner, Kris says that she thought Caitlyn’s speech was really well done and brave.

The next day, Kendall tells Kourtney and Kim that her dad was mad at her for skipping the ESPY after party and going to dinner with Kris instead. She goes on to tell Kourtney and Kim that Caitlyn refused to talk to her after the incident. Kendall says she feels like her parents are making her choose sides and it’s really hard on her.

Obviously the whole Caitlyn Jenner situation was tough on the whole family, especially the two young (biological) daughters, Kendall and Kylie. Therefore, I was surprised that Kris and Caitlyn would ever put them in a situation where they felt they had to choose who to support. They purposely choose to go to the ESPYs to support Caitlyn and then dinner to support Kris. Unfortunately, even this plan didn’t seem to please everyone.

The episode rounds off with Kim playfully asking Kourtney’s son Mason what she should name her baby boy, who is due in December. Mason quips back, “Preston Money West.” Although this may not be the name that Kim chooses, it will be interesting to see what the baby ends up being named. Currently, many have been speculating that she is thinking about sticking with the direction-themed names and contemplating the name “Easton.” Others suggest “Wild Wild” so the baby’s full name could be “Wild, Wild West.”

So that’s it for this week’s episode. Continue reading for a sneak peak of what’s coming up this season and next week on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

This Season:

The preview for the upcoming season shows glimpses into Kanye’s fashion show. It also showed Corey and Kris’ relationship heating up, Kourtney embarking on a nude photo shoot, Khloe obsessing over working out, Kim having troubles with her pregnancy, Scott trying to win his way back into the family and the Kylie-Tyga relationship finally being shown on the show.

Next Week:

The next episode features Kourtney trying to establish a new normal, Khloe going on a business trip to Australia, and Kim and Kanye moving back in with Kris.

You can catch the next episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashian on Sunday, November 22 on E!

‘Step It Up’ 108 It All Comes Down To This Recap Finale

step it up 108 it all comes 2015 imagesWe say goodbye to YCDT’s pilot season of Step it Up this week as it has come to an end. As always, there is drama, and everything is on the line for the young dancers, especially the ones hoping to go from Company to Repertory.

Traci whips the group in shape because she really does want them to win and she doesn’t want them embarrassing her. While they are auditioning on this episode, they are also doing a tribute performance in the same church in which Traci buried her mom just three months prior. With that, you know she is not accepting anything less than their best.

Diaunte and Deshauan are the two company dancers highlighted throughout the show as they try their best to show Traci that they want and deserve the Rep spot. For Deshaun, it is especially important for her to make it because her mother died and dancing is her way of remembering her mother.

At the rehearsal for the church routine, Traci does not let up. “The dancers have to work on getting their bodies and minds prepared.” She wants to go out with a bang and the routine they learn this week is all about emotion and passion. “I want it to bring tears out of people… I want it to really relate to people.”

During the practice, she calls out Deshauan because she’s not giving it her all.  She stops everyone and tells her that she needs to dig deeper and bring out the emotion in her.

Janae and Jakirah take the time to meet with Diaunte and other company members just to see where their heads are concerning their Rep auditions. They go to a restaurant and clearly eat all the food that they know they shouldn’t and have an open conversation about what to expect and what to do. Diaunte especially feels like since he has been performing with Rep during the season, he has a good chance of making it this time around.

At his house, he practices in his living room and is zoned in on getting this routine right. He mother interrupts him to speak with him, and he tells her about the stress that he feels since he wants Rep so badly. Not only does he have school and YTDC but he is involved in other activities that leave him no time. It is this, and the pressure to do well, so that he can get into Rep is overwhelming him.

One the day of the audition, Deshauan meets with Janae right before it’s her time to go on and they encourage her to give it her all. In the studio, Traci has her alumni judge the Company, and they are intimidating to say the least.

Everyone does their dances, and you can tell by the looks on their faces they want it. Of course, there is a lot of nervousness, which gets to some of them. In the end, Traci tells them that she expected more from a lot of them as most fell short during their auditions. Needless to say, Deshauan nor Diaunte make it into Rep this year.

Not making it into Rep really takes a toll on Diaunte. He knows that he is a good dancer, and he knows that he wants to be involved in the arts, but not getting into Rep almost makes him a bit resentful, which you can tell he is trying to work through. It’s a big disappointment and one that he is taking to heart. He even wonders if Traci is hindering him.

Now that the audition is out of the way, it is time for the church performance, and the dancers are just not getting it. As they have their first and only practice at the church, Traci doesn’t understand why they keep messing up, especially Diaunte, and she gets all up in his face to let him know what she thinks. Both the Company and the Reps are performing, so there are a lot of people and not a lot of space. Their lack of precision pisses Traci off and in the house of he Lord, she tells them, “If Jesus himself comes down and tells me to keep you in the piece, not to cut anyone I’m going to hell this day.”

During this time too, the pressure finally gets to Deshauan as the last time she was in this church was when she buried her mother. She breaks down right before the start of the show, and Traci comforts her as she also buried her mother there a few months before. For whatever reason too, Janae has an anxiety attack and Traci has to take her hand and calm her down.

Traci says a few words before her dancers do their routine and once the performance begins, it is a powerful moment. The dancers do so with grace and passion, and the audience feels it. Traci could not be happier with the outcome.

The season is wrapped up, and it was interesting and drew you into the storylines. It’s definitely a different show from Bring It with Dianna Williams but still has the same message of helping young urban kids make better lives for themselves.

Selena Gomez Fresh Start & Scott Disick Back With Kourtney Kardashian

selena gomez fresh start 2015 gossipSelena Gomez has spent the last few months starting fresh. Since ending her on-again, off-again relationship with Justin Bieber, Selena has been working on herself and focusing on her career. Recently, the young singer released her solo album, Revival. In addition, she has also been improving her lifestyle, as she continues to battle with lupus.

Thus, in the theme of starting new, Selena has decided to put her Calabasas (surburb of Los Angeles) upscale mansion on the market. In 2014, the star bought the 7,700 square foot home for $3.7 million. The house was located less than 5 miles away from where her ex Justin Bieber once lived.

This week, Selena listed her house on the market for $4.5 million. The home includes 6 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, a pool, a courtyard, a gym and a guesthouse. In addition, the house is well equipped with security cameras, after a scary incident in 2014; This being when a man was arrested for burglary and trespassing when he was found lounging in Gomez’s guesthouse. Since, the man has been sentenced to 45 days in jail and ordered to stay away from the pop star.

scott disick back with kourtney kardashian 2015 gossipOver the past few days, troubled reality star Scott Disick has been seen hanging around Malibu. For the past few weeks, Scott has been staying at a treatment facility in Malibu. This marks his fourth stint in rehab, in an attempt to recover from his substance and alcohol addiction.

Sources have reported that Scott is doing really well and seems to be completely committed to transitioning to a healthier lifestyle. So naturally, many were worried that Scott was seen out and about already, considering he just entered rehab in October. However, it has been revealed that Scott is still going through the rehab program and that his trips outside of the facility are allowed and part of the recovery process.

On Thursday, Scott was seen at popular Japanese restaurant Nobu with Kris Jenner. Although Scott is not currently dating Kris’ daughter Kourtney Kardashian, Kris has expressed love for Scott and revealed that she is hoping Kourtney and him are able to mend their relationship.

On Friday, Scott was spotted in several SnapChat videos and pictures with Kourtney while attending a book release party for Kardashian family friend, Rich Wilkerson Jr. This marks the first time that the former couple have been photographed together since their public split in July. Considering they have three young children together, it is not too surprising that Kourtney is willing to give him more than one shot (or two, or three) when it comes to cleaning up his act.

Glory Johnson Goes Anne Heche Route, 50 Cent Confused & Donald Trump Blowback

glory johnson goes anne heche route 2015 gossipWNBA player Glory Jonson seems to be taking a page from Anne Heche’s book when she ended it with Ellen Degeneres, 50 Cent is confused about being ‘outed’ by Vivica A. Fox and Donald Trump rants gets some Republican blowback.

Glory Johnson Was Never a Lesbian, Talks about Brittney Griner Relationship

So here is something rich: WNBA player Glory Johnson just dropped the bombshell that she was never a lesbian. In an interview with Cosmopolitan magazine for the December issues, the new mom says that Griner pursued her relentlessly, and she eventually gave in to her advances. She says that she never entertained flirting from women, but when Johnson put her arm around her during a Cirque Du Soleil show, she went with it.

“I wasn’t thinking about her being a female. She was just somebody who was showing me a really, really good time… It was really awkward because what do you do when you’ve never been in a situation with a female before?”

She goes on to say a lot about what happened in Vegas when they first “hooked up” and says that she looked at it more like “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.” From the way Johnson describes it, it was a whirlwind relationship that happened so quickly, making them a couple by the summer of 2014.

“Not a lot of people understand it. They wanted me to be a lesbian who converted from being straight… it just doesn’t work for me like that.” She maintains, though, that regardless of her much-hyped relationship, she remains straight.”

With this knowledge, it makes sense that she and Brittney divorced after only 28 days of marriage. Do better Glory Johnson.

50 cent finds viviva a fox desperate 2015 gossip50 Cent Has No Idea Why His Ex Vivica A. Fox Made Her Comments

If you ask 50 Cent why Vivica A. Fox tried to out him, he will tell you he doesn’t know. They apparently have an ongoing feud that spilled over onto TV and social media when Vivica appeared on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live (WWHL) episode that aired after the season eight premiere of the Real Housewives of Atlanta. According to an exclusive interview 50 did with US Weekly on Thursday, he just doesn’t get it.

“I thought it was crazy…That statement was like out of nowhere. I don’t know; it feels like desperation. It feels like she is searching for attention at that point because I haven’t dealt with her in 10 years…”

I have to agree with him here. First of all, did I miss the reason that Vivica being on WWHL makes sense? People want to say that she insinuated that 50 is gay. Well, it was a damn strong insinuation, and it was all kinds of messy. Vivica, you are in your 50’s boo, why are you still stressing over him?

It all sounds like bitterness to me as she said a couple of years ago that the rapper was the love of her life.

As for the comment social media accused him of making about Empire having too much “gay stuff” he is glad that Andy Cohen cleared it up on the show.

“I reposted [the Empire comment]… I’m glad it happened [on WWHL] because I’ve been there and I’m actually a fan of the show. So when Cohen did make the statement, he said immediately while on air, ‘Oh now we got the facts about it.’”

I am sure that there is a lot he’s not saying but at least he kind of cleared this up. Not that he really need too I guess, I mean it is 50 cent.

donald trump feels blowback from ben carson comments 2015 gossipTrump is at it Again and this Time, He May Not Recover

Okay, so this man continues to be out of control. The most recent atrocity that has come out of his mouth is comparing fellow presidential hopeful Ben Carson’s train of thought to that of a pedophile. Yes, he went there. He called him “incurably pathological like a child molester.”

“If you’re a child molester, a sick puppy, there’s no cure for that. … Pathological, there’s no cure. Now he said he was pathological, OK,” the billionaire businessman said to the crowd. “He said he went after his mother with a hammer. He wanted to hit her on the head. … And I said, ‘Wow, that’s tough.’ Man, did anyone in this audience ever go after your mother to hit her on the head with a hammer?”

Trump also referenced Carson’s claim in his book “Gifted Hands” that he tried to stab a friend, but the blade broke when it hit his belt buckle. Carson revealed these troubling moments from his past long before he announced a campaign for president. The violent outbursts in Detroit became central to his inspirational rags-to-riches story.

His comments were seen as a part of what The Washington Post calls a “cringeworthy meltdown” and shows that Trump doesn’t like it when he doesn’t get his way.

According to Trump, though, they demonstrate that Carson is either a pathological liar or a vicious criminal beyond rehabilitation (despite a lifetime of professional and personal accomplishments suggesting otherwise).

“He goes into the bathroom for a couple of hours, and he comes out, and now he’s religious, and the people of Iowa believe him. Give me a break… It doesn’t happen that way… Don’t be fools… What the hell have we come to?”

Trump, a lot of people, are asking that same question about your presidential campaign. This is a clear indication of how Trump will handle things that he doesn’t; like if elected president. He doesn’t have the temperament; Throwing a temper tantrum because Carson is leading in Iowa now? Come on Mr. Trump.

According to a recent article in The Washington Post, “He very well might not show such staying power, and he may fade away.”

For the record, I’m okay with that.

‘Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’ Early Review 2015 Holiday Hot Toys

uncharted 4 a thiefs end early review images 2015

In the all-out battle between PlayStation and Xbox, each side had its own signature game, unique to that console only. For Xbox, this game was obviously Halo. For PlayStation, however, Uncharted quickly became a worthy rival to the Halo Franchise. You can pre-order Uncharterted 4: A Thief’s End here for the killer collector’s edition.

First launching on the PS3 in 2007, it very quickly became the make or break game for Sony. It was developed by Naughty Dog, who also developed Jak and Daxter, Crash Bandicoot, and Last of Us, all which only launched on PS3.

Naughty Dog has so far been the PlayStation equivalent of Bungie, who developed Halo for Microsoft. The plot follows Nathan Drake, an adventurer and explorer in search of treasure. You’re supposedly the descendant of the real life explorer, Sir Francis Drake, and in search of the ancient treasure of El Dorado – the city made of gold. The gameplay is fairly easy to grasp.

It’s a third person shooter and platformer, meaning that instead of looking through the eyes of a camera, you’re like an imaginary camera following behind the main character. You leap from platform to platform and explore in order to find the treasures you seek, much like Lara Croft.

In fact, Nathan Drake can easily be compared as the male version of Lara Croft. After the first three games, Nathan retired from his explorer lifestyle. Now, however, he is forced to get back in action and take on a world of thieves.

There aren’t many details out about the plot yet, but it has been stated that the stakes are now much more personal than ever before. Nathan will likely be forced to endure harsh conditions and be driven close to death to save the ones he loves.

If you preorder from Amazon, you’ll get the unique Amazon preorder snow camouflage skins. You’ll be able to use this skin on all of your weapons in the Uncharted 4 multiplayer.

You’ll also get two unique outfits to use in cooperative and competitive play. Finally, you get Naughty Dog Points, which is in-game money that you can use in multiplayer. You can choose to buy any of three editions of the game: Standard, Special, and Collector’s.

Star Wars: Battlefront Deluxe Edition Review

star wars battlefront game review 2015 imagesStar Wars has always been a well-known franchise with a very well-developed world, which made it a prime target for video games. Even though it isn’t stated in the title, this is the third installment in the Star Wars: Battlefront series. This is one you can pre-order for some great perks that others won’t get.

There was a Battlefront 1 and 2, which were both extremely well received by audiences. The first two games were made by LucasArts, but now, Star Wars belongs to Disney. This game has been handed over to DICE and EA, the same people that made the popular Battlefield franchise.

DICE has so far been an extremely reliable developer, and will not fail with this game.

Fans of the Star Wars movies will be excited to hear that most of the models in the game have been recreated straight from the actual items used in the original Star Wars movies.

This will help ensure that the graphics look beautiful, and the player stays immersed. Players will be able to battle it out on the most iconic locations from the films, such as the ice planet Hoth, the forest moon Endor, and even Luke’s home planet of Tatooine.

One of the most enjoyable features will be making a grand return – vehicles. You’ll be able to blaze across the battlefield in memorable vehicles, such as X-Wings, Speederbikes, gargantuan AT-ATs, and even the Millennium Falcon.

This, of course, means that space battles will also be returning, another fan-favorite game mode. Many people were disheartened when the multiplayer servers for Battlefront 2 were shut down, but now those fans will get to play multiplayer again, both locally and online.

star wars battlefront game overview 2015 tech imagesIf the new multiplayer is anything like the old one, players will fight in large battles to control checkpoints and destroy or defend objectives. Many players will have a preference on how to play, whether it be in a realistic, tense first-person view or a wide-ranged third person view.

Those players will be happy to know that this feature will be returning, and the transition between the views will be seamless. Preordering this game will give you access to many perks, giving you an advantage over other players.

You will be the first to be able to experience the Battle of Jakku, supposedly a battle that takes place after the rebel victory on Endor, which we saw in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.

Another perk of pre-ordering is access to special weapons that no other player will get. Firstly, the DL-44 blaster: the same one that Han Solo used in the movies. You will also be able to use Ion Grenades and Torpedoes, to inflict tons of damage on enemy vehicles.

Google Brings Out Symantec’s Insecurity Issues

0

google brings out symantecs insecurity issues 2015 techSymantec web security certificates may soon be branded as insecure by Google. It’s hard to believe as Symantec is one of the largest security companies out there. But that is because Symantec has been using several domains as its testbed for pre-production security certificates. Google is one of those domains, and they’re not fond of the idea of being Symantec’s guinea pig.

Security certificates tell browsers and apps that certain websites that make use of SSL are safe to visit. Otherwise, an alert is issued by the browser that the website may be unsafe or are blocked even without internet security software.

Symantec has disclosed that it has issued less than 200 test certificates to 76 registered domains without their permission. Google found out later that the company issued over 2,000 more to unregistered domains. That in itself is a terrible offense in part of Symantec. It might as well be a breach in security in part of the affected domains. With such a practice, unscrupulous persons within Symantec can issue certificates for high-paying malware websites or even to Anonymous and open the gates of hell. One could imagine the damage to Symantec’s reputation within IT security circles. Symantec has since fired some of its staff in light of this issue and is working to downplay or reduce the damage. Google’s Online Security Blog post has blown this case wide open, though and is threatening that problems will arise on websites that use Symantec Security Certificates when using Google products such as the Chrome browser and Chromebooks.

This is bad news for Symantec which has just bounced back from being branded as bloated not just its products but as a company opening the way for other IT security vendors like Avast, Kaspersky, and AVG to get large chunks of the lucrative market. This issue of undermining the security of its clients will be a big blow to the company if it gets out to ordinary users. Norton Internet Security’s share is already as low as it is with Microsoft including free anti-virus products with Windows 8 and Windows 10. Even if the problem was unintentional, it doesn’t speak well for Symantec’s quality control. The company has promised Google and anyone else who complained that they will take steps to fix the problem. Google won’t have it though and laid down several rules detailed in the blog post.

Google requires Symantec that the company man up and issue a report on how and why the issue happened. They also request that Symantec provides steps and procedures that will prevent similar incidents from happening in the future and a timeline to boot. Google also wants the security company to undergo a 3rd party security audit and a Point-in-time Readiness Assessment. These are tough pills to swallow for a well-known IT security company but pills that the company must swallow to get out of the matrix of distrust.

Google isn’t rushing the company with these tough demands but warned that by June 1, 2016, security certificates from Symantec will only cause problems on Google products and for companies that use both Google products Symantec certificates if these demands aren’t met. Chrome will brand websites with Symantec Security certificates as unsafe if Symantec does not practice Certificate Transparency. Red letter warnings. Bad. But just recently, a Symantec spokesperson issued a statement to ZDNet stating:

“In September, we were alerted that a small number of test certificates for Symantec’s internal use had been mis-issued. We immediately began publicly investigating our full test certificate history and found others, most of which were for non-existent and unregistered domains. While there is no evidence that any harm was caused to any user or organization, this type of product testing was not consistent with the policies and standards we are committed to uphold… We confirmed that these test certificates have all been revoked or have expired, and worked directly with the browser community to have them blacklisted. To prevent this type of testing from occurring in the future, we have already put additional tool, policy and process safeguards in place, and announced plans to begin Certificate Transparency logging of all certificates. We have also engaged an independent third-party to evaluate our approach, in addition to expanding the scope of our annual audit.”

Exactly as Google asked and what most users would want to hear. That’s the new Google or Alphabet. They will do no more evil nor will they tolerate it.

Has the UFC’s Reputation Gotten Better in 2015?

0

has the ufc reputation gotten better in 2015 mma imagesAs the largest MMA organization in the world, the UFC is in a great position to enjoy huge profits—and huge amounts of criticism. Whether this criticism is warranted or not will depend on which type of fan is asked, as well as the specific issue at hand. Certainly, though, the company goes to great lengths to try and improve the general opinion around it; a hated entertainment company (of the UFC’s nature) will likely be between a rock and a hard place in terms of profitability and fans.

The fact that public-aggravating controversy isn’t able to generate profits for the UFC (meaning that a negative opinion, held by the general population regarding the UFC itself, would be harmful to the business side of things) once again means that it’s in the organization’s best interest to maintain (or try to maintain) a generally favorable public reputation. This begs the question: has the UFC’s reputation gotten better in 2015? Were the efforts to maintain and further this public opinion successful?

In short, the UFC’s reputation hasn’t gotten better this year. And, there’s a good chance that these implemented marketing practices were at least semi-successful; without them, public opinion would likely be worse. Fans who dispute this may need to reflect upon every negative occurrence that the year has held for the company (not all will be mentioned, and it is similarly true that each some—especially the Reebok deal—were entirely the doing of the organization).

First, the widely publicized and commonly criticized Reebok partnership that the organization unveiled hasn’t done any (non-financial) favors for the UFC.

Fans and fighters alike were quick to denounce the deal. Under it, fighters are no longer able to secure their own fight-night sponsorships, and must wear Reebok gear at the time of weigh-in and the bout. From there, they receive a base payment calculated from the number of Zuffa fights that they have had, as well as an additional payment for “Fight Kit” sales. Fight Kits are the fighters’ aforementioned customized and unique uniforms that they are required to wear to the Octagon.

These uniforms simply haven’t been very successful, to this point—with objectively good reason. First, fighters were frustrated to learn of the low payouts that they’d receive from each Fight Kit sold (especially as many athletes were losing a good deal of money from the fight time payouts, based upon the number of bouts that they’ve had under the Zuffa banner). Although a few different figures have been suggested as the amount that the fighters receive for each of their sold Fight Kits, none of the figures were flattering. Fans were also frustrated with the Kits, as they cost no less than $80 each. The kits are also blandly designed, according to many (it’s hard to dispute this), and featured an unprecedented number of launch-time mistakes and errors (who could forget “Giblert Melendez”), which didn’t help things.

In addition to the entire Reebok fiasco, the UFC has been nailed with a plethora of “fighter abuse” claims—as well as a class-action lawsuit. Whether these allegations are true or not has yet to be proven in court, and opinions regarding the matter will depend on the individual. However, it’s undeniably true that the UFC hasn’t been positively affected by these allegations, regardless of the court case outcome.

Several occurrences which were outside of anyone’s control (besides the offenders) also had a negative impact on the UFC. Coincidently enough, when former UFC fighter (and then-Bellator signee) War Machine (Jon Koppenhaver) assaulted his ex-girlfriend, Christy Mack, there was an incredible negative backlash towards the UFC. A rare example of when it’s undesirable to be the largest company in a particular sphere, the UFC faced a great deal of (unwarranted) criticism for the terrible crime. Neither they nor Bellator (his employer at the time of the assault) were at fault here—the only guilty party was Koppenhaver himself.

Despite this truth, there began to be talks—and large-scale “reports”—about the commonality of violent individuals who “fight UFC”. Certainly, some undesirable and violent individuals compete in the sport—just as undesirable and violent individuals exist in society— but there is by no means an epidemic of violence in MMA. The “MMA fighters” surveyed were largely unprofessional and unsuccessful bums looking for a paycheck (and these same bums are likely to abuse women and commit other crimes). How many MMA athletes can one truly recall being criminally tried for domestic abuse? The answer is simply not many, at any partially professional level of the sport and above.

Moreover, the same study could have certainly been applied to boxing, with likely more devastating research results. But, as HBO has an incredibly large financial interest in the sweet science (they may be inconvenienced by the reminder that their highly regarded associate and top-earner, Mayweather Jr., has been found guilty of assault and battery against women on multiple occasions), a study like this would never happen. While this is perhaps slightly off-topic, the points to take away are that this particular study is nothing more than a well-devised ploy to draw additional attention to an “epidemic” that doesn’t exist, and that the UFC was negatively impacted. Fans know that both the UFC and Bellator have a zero-tolerance policy in regards to criminal abuse, assault, or any other person-harming crime.

But the organization wasn’t very heavily impacted by this or any of the other negative publicity. That’s what’s significant in all of these criticisms and unfortunate occurrences—that the UFC has maintained a steady (and improving, in some areas) viewership.

It’s impossible to say if the organization’s reputation has gotten better or worse throughout the year with a single, definitive yes or no answer; any company of the UFC’s scale is and will be judged by too many different groups, organizations, and individuals to keep track of.

It’s important to note, once again, that the viewership and sales numbers have continued on a positive trajectory; the company’s reputation, largely, couldn’t have gotten all that much worse in a year with this sort of numerical—and popular culture-related—success. The year has demonstrated that the UFC can not only deal with public-relations adversity but can thrive economically in a tumultuous business climate.

Regardless of what happens to the UFC next year, as well as every year after that, it’s clear that these happenings will involve financial viability. A year with this number of negative business factors—from the Reebok deal to the domestic abuse allegations and the fighter lawsuit, as well as the plethora of smaller-scale issues in-between—would have been disastrous for quite a few other companies and organizations.

The company’s reputation has gotten better in the eyes of some, and worse in the eyes of others. Nevertheless, the overall quality of this reputation, in terms of durability and reliability to hold consistent events—has been cemented and proven in the eyes of all.

Rookie Regression: Avoid Marcus Mariota & Jameis Winston in Fantasy Football Week 10

rookie regression avoid marcus mariota 2015 nfl imagesDon’t let solid Week 9 performances fool you—Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota are far from refined. Personally, I still think Mariota will be a bust, but I’m also a little salty because he tore my New Orleans Saints to shreds. At least Winston couldn’t outduel Eli Manning.

Anyways, for those of you still allowed to play fantasy sports (sorry NYC), I’d highly recommend staying away from these kids. It’s nothing personal this week, I promise. It’s more so about their matchups.

Mariota had a fantastic showing with 40 fantasy points against New Orleans after his two-game absence; however, the Carolina Panthers defense is a tad bit better.

Let me rephrase that—the Panthers have a defense and a defensive coordinator that spends less time styling his hair and more time actually preparing the team. I image that’s how Rob Ryan spends his time. At least his hair will look good for job interviews after this season.

Carolina has only allowed two quarterbacks to get past 20 points this season—Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers—so the odds definitely aren’t stacked in Mariota’s favor. Mariota had 15 combined points in matchups against the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills, so you can expect him to struggle against the undefeated Panthers.

Winston’s matchup with the Dallas Cowboys is a little easier but not by much. The Cowboys may not be perfect (very far from it in fact), but they have gone three straight games giving up no more than 17 points to opposing QBs, with one of them being Eli Manning. Coincidentally, Winston hasn’t scored more than 17 points in four home games this season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will most likely rely pretty heavily on Doug Martin this weekend, making a multi-touchdown game somewhat of a stretch of the imagination for Winston.

For the record, I’m also not playing Ryan Tannehill or Russell Wilson. If you’re looking for a cheap QB option, try going with Joe Flacco or Kirk Cousins.

Apple or Microsoft, Which one is Deluded?

0

While promoting the iPad Pro, Apple CEO Tim Cook, made several statements that are supposed to promote the oversized tablet for business use but instead comes off as weird. Statements like ‘Why would we need to buy a PC?’ and that Microsoft’s new Surface Book is a ‘deluded’ idea.

We can assume that what he’s doing here is that he’s giving the public a dose of the Steve Jobs reality distortion field. That everything Apple says is gold the way everything Steve said was a good idea. We’re not in person to see how he said it, but it sure wouldn’t be as convincing as Steve. Tim Cook comes off as a nice guy while Steve has that creepy stare no one can say no to.

Cook is trying to convince people that the iPad Pro can replace a PC. Though it seems far-fetched, it’s a logical move for any salesman hawking his product. The iPad Pro is supposed to penetrate the enterprise. Perhaps, though that depends on who you ask. There are plenty of people in forums who can’t visualize themselves doing serious work on the iPad Pro apart from graphics, emails, and sales presentations. MS Office, a few business-oriented apps and a deal with IBM puts them closer, but the iPad Pro is in for a long road ahead. The Pro just rolled out, and the world is holding its breath. The world was wrong when the original iPad came out. Tim could still be right.

Then there’s Tim’s statement that the Surface Book was a deluded idea. How the Surface Book comes off as a deluded idea is a mystery, solvable only within the walls of the Cupertino campus. Deluded is such a strong word when thousands of Surface Book preorders say otherwise. Tim has since toned down that remark to ‘diluted’ referring to the idea that hybrids couldn’t fully be either a tablet or a PC. Indeed, Microsoft’s approach was considered amusing at first but then, as the idea evolved, Microsoft came out on top. Microsoft has proven that a tablet can become a PC and that a PC can become a tablet. If not, there’s still the ultra-portability that everyone wanted the PC to have.

Paul Schiller, Apple’s SVP for marketing is singing a similar tune. “There certainly are more offerings today, more people trying to create a market, but based on all the data that I’ve been able to see, it is still incredibly small and niche and may not be growing to anything significant,” Schiller said in an interview with Mashable.

But the excitement generated by the Surface Book is difficult to dismiss, nor was the popularity of the Surface Pro tablets. Ironically, Apple’s marketing the iPad Pro as a tablet that seeks to emulate and replace a full business computer at a time of Surface’s dominance. To fulfill that goal, Microsoft even gave its introduction a hand by announcing Microsoft Office apps. To do serious office work such as composing emails and reports, the tablet is introduced with its own keyboard cover that was made popular by Microsoft.

It’s unfortunate that Apple used iOS instead of MacOS n the iPad Pro. Many Apple users agree on this and were hoping that Apple would take a page from Microsoft and give them a functioning Mac in tablet form. But by using IOS instead of Mac OSX on the iPad Pro, Apple gave the tablet the same limitations as its smaller cousins. The lack of a real file system, the lack of ports and the lack of powerful industrial grade apps. That to make full use of the content created on the iPad Pro, a Mac or a PC will have to be involved somewhere along the line to edit and even print.

Not every office has a wireless printer. The iPad Pro is no doubt impressive as a tablet that can be used to create content, but its role in the enterprise remains to be proven. As for the Surface Book, there’s no question that it will perform well among the business crowd. Microsoft has been swamped with pre-orders since the unit’s surprise introduction. Even if it is ‘diluted’, it’s still an ultra-portable PC that can connect to domains, connect to almost any printer and can run all Windows-based business apps that dominate the enterprise. Reports do come in about bugs in the Surface Book but like any first-generation product, it has its rough edges.

As for the deluded concept of hybrids, the industry has spoken. We’d rather be delusional and have an ultra-portable PC we can use at work and later have fun with as a tablet. As for the iPad Pro, no doubt it will be used by business but it’s too soon to say it will replace a PC.
