Toronto Maple Leafs vs Vancouver Canucks: NHL Recap Preview

0

toronto maple leafs vs vancouver canucks nhl recap 2015 previewThe regular season in the NHL is roughly 20% over as all teams in the league have played between 15 and 18 games of their seasons. There have been surprises so far, both good ones and bad ones. For examples, few would have thought that the Dallas Stars would get off to the start that they’ve enjoyed while most would have expected a lot more out of the Anaheim Ducks. On the other hand, the New York Rangers are exactly where a lot of people thought that they would be.

Following Friday night’s action, here’s an up-to-date look at the division leaders, the individual offensive leaders in the National Hockey League, and the key games this upcoming weekend.

Atlantic Division: Montreal Canadiens hold a 9-point lead
(Montreal host Colorado on Saturday night; 7 pm ET)

Metropolitan Division: New York Rangers hold a 3-point lead
(see below for New York’s next game)

Central Division: Dallas Stars hold a 3-point lead
(Dallas host Minnesota on Saturday night; 8 pm ET)

Pacific Division: Los Angeles Kings hold a 1-point lead
(Los Angeles host Edmonton on Saturday night; 10 pm ET)

The New York Rangers, with Henrik Lundqvist, ranked high in both save percentage and goals-against-average, are currently the hottest team in the NHL. The Rangers have won seven straight with wins in the last week over the Arizona Coyotes, the Carolina Hurricanes, and the St. Louis Blues. New York have played so well in November that Montreal, despite their incredible start to the season, do not have a comfortable lead in the Eastern Conference. The Rangers are in action this weekend, as they will look to continue their hot streak when they host the Ottawa Senators in a game from Madison Square Garden (1 pm ET on Saturday afternoon).

Another team making a little bit of noise recently is Buffalo. Considered to be one of the worst teams in the league pre-season, Buffalo are currently sitting at 8-8. This past week Buffalo won two games on the road in Tampa Bay and Florida after posting a home win against the Vancouver Canucks. Rookie Jack Eichel has come on strong as of late as he posted two two-point nights against Vancouver and Tampa Bay. Buffalo will next be in action on Saturday night when the Sabres host the San Jose Sharks (7 pm ET).

For individual scoring leaders, Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin, and Patrick Kane are the top stars so far:

Goals: Patrick Kane (Chicago) and Jamie Benn (Dallas) have 11 each

Assists: Tyler Seguin (Dallas) has 16

Points: Patrick Kane and Tyler Seguin have 25

Recent non-standings related headlines at NHL.com include a security advisory following the recent attacks in Paris, part of which targeted a sports venue. Bill Daly, the Deputy Commissioner of the NHL, stated that that clubs should be on “heightened alert” following the attacks in Paris that have left scores dead.

Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Duchene is also a part of trade rumors. Meanwhile his current teammate, Gabriel Landeskog, has received a suspension for an illegal check.

Nationally televised games in Canada this weekend will feature the Vancouver Canucks facing the Toronto Maple Leafs in a game from Ontario (CBC; 7 pm ET). That will be followed by a west-coast game as the Edmonton Oilers will be in Los Angeles to take on the Kings (10 pm ET).

‘Modern Family’ 706 The More You Ignore Me Recap

modern family 706 the more you ignore me 2015 tv imagesThis week on Modern Family, Phil feels a certain kind of way about the fact that the baby ducks have imprinted on Claire. Oh, and Luke gets arrested.

He took the car to help a girl he likes to find her cat but got caught two blocks from her house. Phil is livid and punishes him by making him clean the duck village.

At the local farmers market, Cam, with Mitch’s help, sell Tucker’s famous ketchup from his parent’s farm in Missouri. Only their product isn’t selling as well Simon and Andrew’s beef jerky. They go over to investigate, and both couples throw all kinds of shade at each other. In the midst of their back and forth, Simon extends an olive branch and offers Mitch a job. He thinks he’s joking at first but realizes he’s serious when Simon tells him, “On a social level I think you are hopeless but I think you are actually a good lawyer.” Mitch is speechless.

Jay makes a video for his presentation at the chamber of commerce since he is being honored with a titan in business award. He shows it to Manny and Gloria and immediately knows that it is boring. “I have to start over.”

Hailey and Dillon go to the movies and run into Beth and Andy, which is super awkward for Hailey. She tries to get away but the only two seats together in the theater is right by them. It also doesn’t help that they are watching a movie who’s plot mimics their situation. After the movie, she dashes out but not before Andy invites them to get some food. Dillon jumps at the chance and his girlfriend’s heart sinks.

At the restaurant, Hailey asks Andy why the movie didn’t bother him since the plot dealt with their situation over the summer. He tells her that he stopped caring about two women and focused on Beth.

On the way home, Hailey breaks up with Dillon because everyone in the world (Andy and Beth) are moving forward and they are not. He gets out of the car and walks because he’s tired of being jerked around. “Now I’m moving forward.”

Phil continues to get the feeling that Claire doesn’t feel he is dangerous enough. As they talk about it in the car, they see Alex, who was supposed to be at school. They call and catch her in a lie as they watch her as they speak to her, but Claire lets it slide. “College kids do that kind of thing.” Phil accuses her of liking that their children are running wild since it means they are less like their “mayor of vanillaville” father. Their conversation is cut short when they see Alex come out of the liquor store with a case of some something and get into a sketchy white van. Now Claire is concerned. “Follow the van!”

At the house, Luke cleans out the duck village when Manny comes over to tease him. They realize that one of the ducks is missing, and they track it down to their neighbor’s backyard. They go through a bush to get it only to be accused of being a peeping Tom by the girl lying in a bikini getting a tan. But because Manny is smooth as butter, she ends up thinking he’s the sweetest thing for taking care of the ducks, to Luke’s chagrin.

Cam and Mitch visit Jay, who reaches out to his son to help him with video, but that doesn’t last long as he becomes impatient. They eat lunch, and Gloria shares her secret sauce to Cam’s consternation. He doesn’t like that everyone loves it over his so when she passes the recipe to Mitch, Cam, “accidently” knocks it into a glass of water, destroying it. Gloria is heartbroken as her great aunt gave it to her, and Cam is devastated. He offers to help her recreate it and everything around Gloria reminds her of sounds connected to different ingredients in the sauce.

They make the sauce, and Cam has to admit that it is better than his. He tells Gloria that they need to sell it at the farmers market, but she says she can’t. “I’m not allowed at the Farmers Market.” Why you ask? Because in 2011 she sold a hair product that didn’t go over so well.

Claire and Phil have lost the van but plan to track Alex from his computer once at the house; only they don’t have to because the van is sitting right in the driveway when they pull up. They get out and run upstairs to find Alex hiding Reuben in the closet. Not knowing who it is, Phil punches him in the nose and immediately apologizes. Alex says that she just needed a break from CalTech and didn’t want anyone to know that she and Reuben are an item. Claire also takes the time to let her husband know that she has also seen him as a brave and dangerous.

Mitch gets advice from his dad as he continues to help him with his video. He tells his father about the offer from Simon but also that he has been thinking about starting his own practice. Jay tells him to take the offer because it takes a certain kind of person to run a business. He gives Gloria the same advice about not being able to handle it, which in turns makes her and Mitch want to prove him wrong.

In the end, Jay’s realizes that his quest to prove the naysayers wrong is the reason for his life success, and that’s what he puts in his video. And the Ducks finally follow Phil.

‘Black-ish’ 207 Charlie In Charge Recap

blackish 207 charlie in charge 2015 tv imagesThis week on Blackish, Zoe goes to college! Well not really. She visits one, Bow’s alma mater Brown University.

Dre has an issue with this for two reasons. He doesn’t like to fly, and he doesn’t want this daughter to go to an Ivy league and become a snob that name drops her school every chance she gets; like the guys at his job.

At the house, Junior is appalled that his parents want to get a babysitter to watch them while they are gone. He feels that he is more than capable of taking care of the house and his siblings since he’s 14 years old. But Diane lets him know that anyone is better than him because, “He’s a joke of a man.” Wow.

In Zoe’s room, Dre and Bow talk to their daughter about school. Zoe is super excited about going to college and while her parents are too, Dre rather she goes to a UC school. He even bribes her with a Telsa. That would be all I need to hear.

On the plane, Dre is almost all the way out of it, you know since he takes meds to handle his flights. Bow, who is sitting in first class with Zoe, asks him if he called the babysitter Charlotte and he, pretty much gone, says yes. But since he really didn’t, when she goes to her seat, he calls Charlotte. Only he doesn’t call Charlotte but accidentally calls Charlie, who is more than happy to babysit his coworker’s/friend’s kids. He even leaves his own son to do it.

He shows up at the house, and the kids are in for a very interesting time with Uncle Charlie. Diane doesn’t like it from the start and predicts that whatever goes down will be disastrous. He and the boys play video games, and Diane sits at the table looking at them in disgust. “Look at them, two jokes of men bonding.” Charlie tells Junior that he could have handled watching them, and the young Johnson agrees. Then, Charlie gets a face-time call from Dominique, the only woman he ever loved. But since his “face game is weak” and he doesn’t have the house or job that will satisfy her, he doesn’t answer it.

Junior has a solution to Charlie’s issues. He devises a plan that involves telling the love of his life that the house and everything in it (including the children) are his. Junior is going to Nancy Meyers this situation (It’s Complicated, As Good As it Gets), Diane Keaton all white outfit and everything.

At Brown, Dre, Bow and Zoe stay in the dorms, to Bow’s excitement. Once settled in, she calls Charlotte to check on the kids. The way the conversation goes, however, Bow has no idea that Charlotte isn’t watching the kids, and Charlotte has no idea why Bow is blowing her kisses and saying “Byeeeeee, Byeeeee, I love you.”

During the tour, Dre continues to find everything little thing to discourage Zoe from going to school on the east coast. He talks about the harsh winters and how at the end of each May when the snow melts, dozens of frozen bodies are found. Of course, she doesn’t buy it, and Bow sends him away to Andrews’ Hall where there’s a DIY calzone station. But Bow isn’t that much better. Her overzealousness embarrasses Zoe and makes her second thinking Brown as her university of choice.

Back at the house, Junior and Jack get things ready for Charlie’s date. Only the man of the hour has locked himself in the bathroom; something Diane happily lets’s Junior know. But don’t worry, it’s only to sing D’Angelo’s  “How Does it Feel” in the mirror, you know, to hype himself up.

The doorbell rings, and when he opens the door, bam, it’s Amber Rose… playing Dominique that is. “Damn.” He tells her she looks good, she says’ I’m wearing “Dominique for Dominique by Dominique.” Charlie tells her “I’m wearing neck by turtle.” Hilarious! He is killing it.

“You’ve really gotten it together,” she tells him after a tour of the house. They have a kiss and the kids watch. Diane can’t believe what she’s seeing. “This will never last.” Charlie goes in to kiss Dominique again, and she stops him, “Babe you are really sweating.” He excuses himself to the kitchen where he tells Junior he can’t do this, but he’s not having it. “We need this.” Charlie wants to come clean and be himself. “I gotta come real, tell the truth… she’ll be upset but realize I only did it because I care so much.”

That’s what he does, and it doesn’t go so well. “I just wanted to impress you.” She storms out in disappointment and Charlie demands to be cut out of his turtleneck as he retreats to the bathroom.

After everything is said and done, Jack and Junior join Charlie in the bathroom and this time, he sings Toni Braxton’s “Unbreak My Heart.” Since Junior told her she won and everything was ruined, the baby Johnson feels bad. She walks in on them and asks to speak to Charlie. “Why so you can gloat?” She tells him no and then apologizes and says that she’s wrong. He is a good guy and one day he’ll find the real love of his life.

That night after the tour, Bow tells Dre, “I made her hate brown… I pushed her too hard.” She doesn’t want Zoe to swear off going to Brown because of her. On the way home, Dre talks to Zoe on the plane about giving Brown another chance, for her mom’s sake. They share a tender moment, and Dre realizes he didn’t take his meds. Zoe reassures him that everything will be okay and holds his hand. He is fine until something falls from the overhead and he loses it asking for his airplane candy and his mama. Oh, Dre.

In the end, it all works out as Dominique comes back and they go to Catalina Island.

‘How to Get Away with Murder’ 208 Hi, I’m Philip Recap

how to get away with murder 208 hi im philip 2015 tv imagesThere are pretty much no words for how much I am looking forward to How to Get Away with Murder next week. The show was good this week, and the stakes are so high right now, I can barely stand it.

Nate and Annalise finally get it on again. It’s been a while. Actually, just about everyone has sex, at the same damn time, at the end of this episode. Frank and Laurel, Michaela and CALEB (Yes honey) Ollie and Connor (no he’s not dead) and, of course, Annie and her chocolate hero.

The action picks right up from where it ended. We see what happened to Ollie when Philip, they guy they were tracking as a suspect in the Hapstall case, sneaks into his apartment. He says that he was not there to kill him and apparently he just wanted to talk and know why they are coming for him. So when Connor panics and storms over to Annie’s when he gets home and his boyfriend is gone (and there’s spilled milk, literally), things calm down as Nate (he was visiting) calls in a missing person’s report, because Ollie shows up… with Philip. They talk, and Annie takes responsibility for everything. Philip tells her he blames her and plans on suing. She plays coy and asks him what he wants. “I don’t know yet,” he tells her. After he leaves, she confides in Nate and Frank that this could ruin her. Nate tells her he’ll handle it.

While they deal with the situation on their end, the students search for clues of DNA that Philip may have left behind. Only they don’t have to because Ollie took the straw he was drinking out of at the café before they headed to the house.

Laurel’s role in the crew grows as Bonnie is MIA. We don’t see much of her this episode aside from her sitting in the shower having flashbacks about her conversation with Annalise. She makes her the “new Bonnie” and the Latina doesn’t do too shabby of a job.

The Keating Five is swamped with paperwork from ADA Sinclair as boxes on top of boxes of files are delivered to the house. As time ticks on, while Annie speaks to them about the case, she gets a phone call that Sinclair wants to offer Catherine and Caleb a plea deal.

Annalise and her clients visit with the ADA, and she tells them to each take 15 years for the murder of their parents. It is out of the question for Annie, but they tell her they want to think about it. Really guys? Sinclair gives them till 5 pm. After their meeting, Annalise tells them that it’s a good sign that Sinclair gives a plea deal as it means she is nervous.

But we find out that the real reason for the deal is because she has wiretapped the house. Yep, that’s right. The files that she sent over had a bug in them and thanks to Asher realizing that she planted one after not being able to get permission from a judge because Asher refused to testify, they rummage through the boxes. Using code words and silent gestures, they look for hours. Finally, when Connor writes #Asherfail on a notebook and shows it to the rest, Asher realizes that the bug is in the pen that the deliveryman left.

So what does Annalise do? Feeds Sinclair fake information about the Hapstalls that they did kill their parents and that the gun his hidden in the basement of her their house. Because she has no chill, the ADA brings a buttload of people to the Hapstalls to search the premises, and they find nothing. “Well search again,” she tells the head guy. But there’s no need as he tells her “we already did.” Sinclair wants to know the time. “5:15 pm.” She looks at Annie because the deadline has passed for the plea deal.

But that is not the end of the ordeal because Catherine then turns around and takes another plea deal that would give her ten years in prison and her brother none. Annalise is livid and rushes to tell her “don’t take it” and to cuss Sinclair out. She finds out not only is there nothing she can do but that she has one hour before standing before the judge to accept the deal. She puts her team on it.

Speaking of team Nate is doing his part. He reports that Philip is making a statement then does something very dangerous. He breaks into his criminal record and changes it to make it look like he reports stalking all the time. Wow, Nate, that’s pretty gangster.

At the house, the team goes through everything they can find to help Catherine but come up with nothing. They are out of time and Annalise stalls for as long as she can, waiting to hear from them. The judge then orders Catherine to stand and explains to her what taking the deal means. Just when she is about to accept it, Frank comes through. Earlier, he tried to get his connect at the hospital to run Philip’s DNA but she refused because she found that it’s too risky. After begging her to no avail, he takes $50,000 from his suitcase of money and gives it to her. He brings the DNA to Annalise in the 12th hour that puts Philip at the crime scene AND proves that his birth parents are the racist dead aunt and the dead Hapstall dad (yes incest). Catherine is relieved and doesn’t accept the deal.

Only we find out in the end that she is working with Philip. After she gives West one of the portraits she drew, he realizes that he saw one just like it in the picture of Philip. At the same time, not only does Caleb show Michaela a gun he found (after they had sex) in a vent, we see Philip get in the car with Catherine.

What the hell is going on? We’ll find out next week.

‘Shark Tank’ 708 UnShrinkIt Grips Polar Pro

shark tank 708 unshrinkit 2015 tv imagesTonight’s episode of ABC’s Shark Tank featured young millennial entrepreneurs who believe they have viable businesses that could benefit from a shark’s investment and expertise. The panel of venture capitalists in the tank this time around was Robert Herjavec, Lori Greiner, Kevin O’Leary, Daymond John and Mark Cuban.

In addition, the episode also included a feature segment showing Mark, Daymond and fellow shark Barbara Corcoran visiting the White House for a global entrepreneur summit. Here, the business moguls met with both President Obama and Vice President Biden.

So here is a recap of tonight’s business pitches:

  1. AfreSheet

Asking: $100,000 for 20%

Young entrepreneur Maxwell Cohen came into the tank with his new take on bed sheets. His product is a fitted sheet that includes seven soft, waterproof peel away layers. Thus, instead of having to change your sheets every time you spill your drink, get sick or are simply too lazy to do your laundry, you can take off one of the layers and have a brand new sheet ready for you. Additionally, the peel away sheets are completely recyclable.

The Sharks seemed entertained by Max’s idea and pitch. However, they all expressed hesitation towards the concept. Lori pointed out that the sheets lacked quality, as she poked a hole through one of the layers.

Max goes on to say that he has had some interest from retailers, such as Bed, Bath and Beyond. Though this interest has yet to turn into any substantial orders. Unfortunately, the Sharks drop out one by one, as they all can’t fully get behind the product.

Thus, Max leaves the tank without an investment.

  1. UnShrinkIt

Asking: $150,000 for 10%

The second pitch of the night was from Harvard business students Nate Barbera and Desiree Stolar. The two friends created a business around an innovative formula that relaxes fibers in shrunken wool clothing, to help return them to their original size.

While the idea seemed to have plenty potential, the sharks express concern about how big the market for it is. Lori points out that it is geared towards wool, which is not a common fabric nowadays. In addition, the only people who would need the product are the people who don’t treat their wool garments properly. Thus, Lori is quick to drop out of the deal.

O’Leary is the first shark to put out an offer, at $150,000 for 33.33%. However, Nate and Desiree aren’t too happy with the valuation Kevin implicitly put on their company.

Shortly after, Daymond offers the two entrepreneurs $150,000 for 25%, contingent on them agreeing to license the formula. Mark then comes in with a deal at $150,000 for 15%.

In the end, UnShrinkIt takes on Mark Cuban as an investor.

  1. GripClean

Asking: $85,000 for 20%

GripClean is a product created by X Games MotoCross star Bryce Hudson. Basically, Bryce created an industrial grade soap that takes “dirt to fight dirt.” The product incorporates grains of dirt to enable the user to get out even the toughest dirt, grime and grease.

Currently, Hudson is creating and packaging his product in his garage. He has been unable to find a suitable manufacturer, as they all are unwilling to purposely import dirt into their factories.

Herjavec is the first shark to drop out, as he has already had a go at the industry with the company GreaseMonkey, and it didn’t go so well. Next, Mark drops out, as he believes Bryce has not created a true company yet. Daymond tells Bryce that he asked for too much money and didn’t feel he personally has the right expertise to help Bryce’s business, so he drops out.

Kevin isn’t pleased when Bryce explains he plans to continue producing the soap in his garage. Kevin tells Bryce that his strategy would not allow him to be profitably scaled and drops out.

Fortunately, Greiner sees potential in the product and feels that it would fit in well with her current investment portfolio. She decides she will take a leap of faith. However, Bryce must allow her to make some crucial business decisions. Lori offers him $85,000 for 35% and Bryce gladly accepts.

  1. Polar Pro

Asking: $500,000 for 10%

With a valuation like the one Polar Pro’s founder Jeff Overall is proposing his company is worth, that sharks had high expectation for the business. Polar Pro is a company that provides various accessories for cameras. They have over 30 skews, including a selfie stick that charges your phone, and a set of filters for drone cameras.

Undoubtedly, all 5 of the sharks are incredibly impressed by Jeff’s company and how it manufactures and designs all of its innovative problems. In addition, Jeff continues to impress when he reveals that all of his products have profit margins ranging from 75-300%.

The company had sales of $2.8 million last year, and Jeff says it continues to stay ahead of the competition by continuously investing in extensive research and development.

Although impressed, Kevin decides to step out of the deal. Mark believes that Jeff has a hit on his hands in terms of the drone camera filters, so he offers him $500,000 for 10%. Afterwards, Daymond asks Mark to go in on a deal with him at $500,000 for 15%. However, Mark declines. Lori also offers the same deal as Mark, $500,000 for 10%.

As the sharks begin getting hungry, and the tension in the tank builds up. Robert and Mark decide to offer a joint deal at $1 million for 10%. Jeff accepts Mark and Robert’s deal.

And that is the end of this week’s Shark Tank. Check out below to read a teaser for next week’s episode.

Next Week:

The sharks are pitched a whole new round of businesses, including a new recreational sport, a socially responsible fashion brand, a Brazilian snack, and a solution to the problem of missing socks. In addition, fans also get an update from Season 6’s seasonal company Mensch on a Bench.

One Direction’s Long Break & Kris Jenner Talks Standard On Lamar Odom & Caitlyn

One Direction Goes It Along For Awhile

Unfortunately, the bad luck of Friday the 13th has come down on the fans of boy band, One Direction. While the “Directioners” were gifted the band’s new album Made in the A.M. today, they were also presented the news that the band’s planned hiatus will last two years.

In an interview with BBC 1 Radio, member Liam Payne spilled that the world is going to have to go the next two years without One Direction. He explained that he is looking forward to being able to write more while on break, saying, “writing’s not really a job, it’s so much fun, we’ve always had to rush it. So it’s nice in these two years I’m going to write some songs and see what happens.”

While some are speculating that Liam was just using two years as an estimate or a figure of speech, others are shocked by the definite time period that Liam put on the band’s hiatus.

Later in the interview, band member and father-to-be Louis Tomlinson revealed that the four band members would still be working together while on break. He said, “We’ll probably team up and do a bit of writing together.” He went on to joke, “I’m going to take over the world of music and Niall’s becoming a golf pro.”

Interestingly enough, both One Direction and Justin Bieber had their albums drop today and critics are unanimous is calling Biebs the future while the Harry Stiles and company are living in the past. Maybe the two years will help them catch up to the future.

You’d have to ask him – Or her.” Kris defused the subject when asked further about Caitlyn, saying, “I’m not going to talk about [my past marriage]…I wish everybody well; when it comes to everybody else’s journey, as far as people that are trying to find themselves, this is a very fresh and new thing, so I think it’s important for me to let her tell her own story.”

Will the Real Ben Carson Please Stand Up?

0

will real ben carson please stand up 2015 opinionThis week, I realized something. Ben Carson may very well be the next American President. He is leading in the polls on the Republican side, and people are really starting to take note. As of this last Republican debate, he is the candidate who gains the most followers across social media platforms, and his debating game has improved.

With that, it is time out for the media to stop pointing to the superfluous, non-important things concerning Carson. Don’t ask him if he would abort baby Hitler. That’s a dumbass question. Don’t bring up the fact that he used to have a temper out of this world. He doesn’t now (from what we know) plus it’s no secret that people change. Don’t bring attention to the aspects of his past that may garner unreliable results as a means to discredit him. There are enough verifiable, documented situations, and that’s what I want to talk about.

We have to take the possibility of his winning the presidency more seriously and that means understanding what matters and what doesn’t matter when looking into his past. Whether or not Bob, the childhood friend that he claims to have almost killed exists has too much room for error. What doesn’t leave much to speculate are court cases and affiliations that call his character into question. Those are the telling factors. Those are the incidents that we take a step back and examine. And the most telling story being told about Ben Carson right now is that of his ties to Al Costa.

A man very close to Carson by Carson’s account, their relationship is the litmus test for the presidential hopeful’s trustworthiness. “Al Costa is my best friend. Al Costa is my very best friend.” Costa was found guilty of health insurance fraud and not just low brow fraud, a million dollar scam fraud. Yes, he’d broker deals with patients for services that include waving co- pays and then turn around and inflate bills to insurance companies. In at least 50 cases, he charged them for services that he didn’t perform. Despite all of this Carson stood by and continues to stand by his “very best friend.”

The reason this gives us a look into Carson’s character is because there is a very small chance that you will not know your friend is committing fraud. First of all, you are a doctor, so you know the system. Secondly, you call this man your “best friend” and friends tell each other things. Thirdly, he has done real estate deals for you that have made you a very rich man. Have you never wondered how he does it?

How can you not know that your friend is doing something like this? And after knowing, not only testify, but write a letter on Johns Hopkins letterhead asking for leniency in his punishment? It does not sit well with me. And the thing that puts the icing on the cake is that in his 2013 book, he advocates harsh punishment for physicians who “engage in fraud” saying that they should be subject to “the Saudi Arabian solution.” A “solution” that involves stiff penalties for “this kind of fraud.” In a Carson run world, that punishment is:

“….Such as loss of one’s medical license for life, no less than ten years in prison, and a loss of all of one’s personal possessions.”

But where was that tough love when it was your friend?

Doesn’t the Bible say, “Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character?” How can you no be influenced by a man like Costa. And that’s what I’m talking about right here. A God fearing man like Carson claims to be should know that a line has to drawn when it comes whom you allow yourself to be associated. If he is willing to let this man who he really likes as a person slide, who else is he willing to slide? According to the he wrote on behalf of Costa, he trusts him with is life.

“Next to my wife of 32 years, there is no one on this planet I trust more than Al Costa.”

The other clutch for me is that Costa was an “essential component” of Carson’s charity Carson Scholars Fund. It’s hard to believe that the tactics he used to commit fraud with his practice were not used in any form or fashion for the foundation. People don’t compartmentalize their character flaws. If you are a cheater in one thing, you are more than likely the same in another.

You are the company that you keep, and Carson has been keeping Costa’s company for over two decades. If we are going to call anything into question about his ability to bring the country from wherever the Republicans say we are, look at the people closest to Carson because like really does reflect like.

Seven Things Johnny Football Manziel can Do about Social Media Drama

Seven Things Johnny Football manziel can Do about Social Media Drama 2015 nfl imagesAs Johnny Manziel tries to become the full-time starter in Cleveland, he keeps getting tripped up by a familiar opponent, himself. While the Browns prepare to play Pittsburgh this Sunday Manziel is having to answer for some social media photos that popped up showing him partying during his return to Texas A&M.

Manziel has an honorary captain on Saturday as the Aggies lost to Auburn. J-Football was also captain of the party brigade as he is seen with plenty of lovely ladies and is also seen holding what looks to be a beer bottle. Could have been a non-alcoholic brew for all I know, but Manziel is past the point of being given the benefit of the doubt.

Manziel had to answer questions from beat reporters in Cleveland about his weekend visit to his alma mater and he seemed unapologetic. He feels he has a right to a private life, even though he does admit that he needs to watch his steps after going through rehab back in the summer.

When asked about whether he would get the start this week versus the Steelers, Manziel was very open about wanting to keep his QB1 status over Josh McCown.

“I think it’s tough,” said Manziel. “I was telling Flip (offensive coordinator John DeFilippo) and everybody, as the game went on, I felt things starting to slow down more and more and seeing guys here and there. Not every game is going to be perfect in that aspect. Like I said, I’ve only played four starts. At the same time, I feel like I’m getting more comfortable, so it’s going to be hard knowing that I feel like I’m getting better and learning a lot being out there and then having to go back (to the bench). We don’t know if that’s been decided yet, or what the case may be, so we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.”

It’s clear that Johnny Manziel is a tough competitor. He wants the ball in his hands and believes he is the better option at quarterback for the Browns. I like that. I prefer that over a guy who would be comfortable holding a clipboard on the sideline while cashing a big check each week.

No pressure as a backup. Manziel could party more often while not having to worry about his performance each Sunday. Wanting to be the starter shows he cares about the game and wants to help his team win. He is Johnny Football and football is his life.

Now, what can he do about situations like this past weekend at A&M, with photos that will always be a part of any outing he is a part of?

I’m certainly not a PR pro, but I do have a few viable options that would help Manziel move past these types of party situations. I have no answers for when he is involved in an alleged domestic dispute. He’s on his own there.

Here are seven things Manziel can do to mitigate the damage from photos of him in questionable party scene situations.

7. The biggest issue is not technically the party scene; it’s the fact that Manziel spent time in a rehab facility. He may think he can control his drinking, but he’s wrong. The pull of addiction is more powerful than him, and he should not pick up a beer at all. That’s a tough task when surrounded by everyone else having a good time with booze flowing.

6. Shadow Tom Brady for a month this offseason. Surely J-Football would learn how to act in 30 days around the guy who’s only trouble has come from trumped up charges about air pressure.

5. Perhaps Manziel could use a constant mentor at his side for all public outings. Dr. Phil is pretty expensive by the hour, but the guy might enjoy some time out with Manziel and the ladies and give the kid a discount.

4. The pics from his visit back at Texas A&M would have been less controversial had he not chosen to wear this giant log chain around his neck. If your necklace weighs more than the WWE Championship Belt, then don’t wear it in public.

3. Try private parties my man. Have security guards confiscate all digital devices as they enter. How hard would that be?

2. Manziel could go Bill Belichick on reporters when they have juicy photos. It takes great patience to give the same answer over and over, but “we’re getting ready for team x” will make the reporters weary over time.

1. He could just own it. The guy has already said he has a right to a private life, and he’s right. He should just tell reporters repeatedly that he likes hot women around him and likes an occasional beer. Make sure the press knows he’s not perfect and can’t be held to that standard because he will never be an angel.

This tact will take the pressure off of him answering everything just right, which is impossible anyway.

‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2’ Trailer Looks Promising

my big fat greek wedding 2 trailer looks like a promising sequel 2015 movie imagesThe world of social media rejoiced when the trailer for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 hit the web. The movie is a sequel to the massive 2002 hit My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which garnered over $368 million from ticket sales while spawning from a modest budget of $5 million. The original was titled a “sleeper” film, as it was planned for release in only a small portion of American theaters. However, word of mouth and extremely positive reviews caused for a nationwide release and the huge numbers at the box office.

Greek-Canadian actress and writer Nia Vardalos created the script for the movie. She was the mastermind behind the Oscar-nominated screenplay of the original film. Nia is also reprising her role as Toula Portokalos. The original film followed Toula, who unexpectedly falls in love with a non-Greek teacher named Ian Miller. While Toula was happy to be in love, she had to deal with the drama that ensues when bringing together her outspoken, judgmental Greek family and her soon-to-be husband.

The sequel focuses in on Toula and her husband Ian (whose role is reprised by John Corbett) once again. This time around they are parents to a college-aged daughter, Paris. The plot dives into the struggles that Paris faces when trying to find her own independence while still being part of an infamously close-knit family.

In addition, after 60 years of marriage, Toula’s parents (also reprised by returning cast members Lainie Kazan and Michael Constantine) find out that they never got their official marriage certificate signed. Thus, the family comes together to throw an even bigger, fat Greek wedding.

When talking to the LA Times, Nia Vardalos explained that it was like one big reunion on set. She said, “We gathered the entire family back. Everyone in the first movie is back for the second movie. We filmed in the same locations.”

She went on to say, “we have the same producers. We are still a small independent film now being released by the behemoth Universal Pictures. But you know, we are still the same family, and we’re really close, and we had a great, great time.” Here, Nia refers to the producers returning from the first film, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson (Hanks’ wife) and Gary Goetzman.

The trailer begins with flashbacks to the first film, with Toula explaining that “a long time ago…I had a big, fat Greek wedding.” It then goes on to show Toula and Ian as parents, who are just trying to find time to themselves, while still managing to smother their own daughter.

Paris, who is played by Elena Kampouris, is playing out the same story as her mother, Toula, as she tries to push away her overwhelming extended Greek family. Elena is joined by actor Alex Wolff (Papertowns), as her apparent love interest.

The teaser also introduces Toula’s parents’ storyline, as they realize after all these years they aren’t even officially married. Thus, everyone must come together once again to throw the wedding of the decade.

With countless familiar faces, I think fans will be pleased with the family’s return to the big screen. From the trailer, there are numerous funny moments and it seems that the script still relies on its family-centric humor while incorporating a bigger storyline and overall production (and clearly a bigger budget).

While fans of the original movie are already buzzing all over social media about the upcoming film, they still have a bit of a wait until its release. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is set to hit theaters on March 25, 2016 – which is 14 years after the original film debuted.

‘Uncle Nick’ Trailer Looks To Give Us Some ‘Bad Santa’ Vibes

0

uncle nick trailer looks to give us some bad santa 2015 moviesAs we say goodbye to autumn and Halloween-themed movies and shows, we enter the winter season, which means theaters are gearing up to release a slew of holiday-themed movies. Recently, the trailer for the movie Uncle Nick was released. And while it may have some Christmas carols and snow, it is definitely not your typical heartwarming holiday story. What’s interesting is that it’s Exec Produced by Errol Morris…yes, the same one who did the amazing documentaries The Thin Blue Line and Fog of War.

Much like 2003’s Bad Santa starring Billy Bob Thornton, Uncle Nick centers on a drunk, lewd and obnoxious middle-aged man who is thrown into the cookie cutter traditions that accompany the holiday season.

The movie is about Nick, who is invited to join his brother’s family for their annual Christmas get-together. While Nick doesn’t necessarily fit into with his brother’s conventional family, he decides to go to the party in hopes of scoring with a “super-hot” party guest.

Nick joins his equally off-putting sister, as they impose their crazy antics on their brother’s gathering. As the liquor begins making its rounds, the hilarity ensues, and unflattering family secrets are shared amongst the guests. Unfortunately, a bit too much is shared and disaster strikes, as Nick’s brother tries to keep his siblings under control.

Uncle Nick stars established comedian Brian Posehn as the lead holiday troublemaker, Nick.  Brian has starred in numerous films and TV shows, including The Big Bang Theory, Bob’s Burgers, Reno 911, and had a reoccurring role as Brian Spukowski on The Sarah Silverman Program. The movie also stars Paget Brewster (Community, Grandfathered), Beau Ballinger, and well-known funny woman Missi Pyle (Gone Girl, Two and a Half Men and also The Sarah Silverman Program).

Chris Kasick, who is known for his role in numerous commercials shot by well-established director Errol Morris, directed the movie. However, Errol joined Chris on Uncle Nick, by taking on the role of executive producer. In addition, Mike Demski wrote the screenplay for the film (he has written for TV shows such as X-Play and Attack of the Show! in the past).

In the official green band trailer, audiences get their first glimpse at the one and only Uncle Nick. He is definitely an outspoken, in your face kind of guy, which is a big contrast to his brother’s sweater-vest wearing family.  Jacob Houston, who plays Nick’s step-nephew, puts it into perspective when he describes his Uncle Nick to be like, “a weird homeless dude who kind of just wandered in here.”

Next, we see Nick trying to score some Vicodin from his sister-in-law, who works in pharmaceutical sales. However, she points out that just because she works with medicine, doesn’t mean she is qualified to prescribe/supply it. He proceeds to ask for Viagra for “buddy,” as he politely refers to his southern region. It becomes pretty evident that Nick’s sister-in-law didn’t know what she was in for when she married Cody (Nick’s brother).

Later in the teaser, Nick is seen “corrupting” his step-niece, who happens to be an attractive and rebellious teenage girl. Right away, it becomes obvious that the dinner guest that Nick is described to be trying to get with is actually his step-niece (played by Melia Renee).

Throughout the trailer, we get to see comedians Brian and Missi play off of one another. They bring their own humorous chemistry, as they both embody over-the top, embarrassing relatives.

The sneak peak ends with Uncle Nick proclaiming, “If I have to hear ‘Chestnuts’ one more time, I am going to roast my head in the open fire.”

Uncle Nick seems to have the potential and makings of another crude-humor holiday hit like Bad Santa. Luckily, it will be out a bit later than Seth Rogen’s latest holiday comedy The Night Before, which will probably win over most of the comedy seeking holiday crowds and potentially might outshine Uncle Nick based on star power.

Disney CEO Bob Iger Wants Oakland Raiders & San Diego Chargers in L.A. Next Season

disney ceo bob iger wants oakland raiders 2015 nfl imagesRemember how Roger Goodell and company were pushing to move some sorry team back to Los Angeles, California, and they said that plans were in place to make it happen by the 2016 season? Yeah, they’re still pushing that.

The three teams rumored to be a part of the move were the St. Louis Rams, Oakland Raiders (both of which have played in Los Angeles before), and the San Diego Chargers. Well, now there’s a new player in the game—Disney CEO Bob Iger is trying to bring not one, but two of these teams to the City of Angeles.

That’s right. One team isn’t good enough. Either that or he doesn’t consider the Chargers a real team. They may just be the candy by the register at Walmart to him.

The plan would put the Chargers and Raiders in the same billion dollar stadium in Carson, leaving the Rams in St. Louis.

“This is a major deal that Iger is a primary stakeholder,” said David Carter of the USC Marshall School of Business. “Iger would not have agreed to do this if he didn’t think his involvement could help drag the proposal over the finish line.”

I mean, everything Disney touches seems to turn to gold, so I would imagine that extends to the guy running the show.

Iger has been leading Disney for ten years now, and their stock is up over 380 percent. For those of you unfamiliar with the financial markets, that’s really damn good. If anyone can get a team back into L.A. for the first time in 20 years, it’s this man.

“Should the owners approve the move, Los Angeles will proudly welcome two incredible teams to our community and build a stadium worthy of their fans,” said Iger. “L.A. football fans will enjoy unprecedented access to games during the season in a state-of-the-art stadium designed to deliver the most entertaining, exciting, and enjoyable experience possible.”

At least the Raiders are finally turning things around because Charger games this year haven’t been any of those e-words.

Kris & Caitlyn Jenner Together & Jennifer Lawrence Opens Up For Sawyer

kris caitlyn jenner together 2015 gossipDuring the E! docu-series I Am Cait, it was pretty evident that there was plenty of tension between exes Caitlyn and Kris Jenner. In the show, Kris expressed her frustration with the whole situation and felt that Caitlyn was very insensitive about their failed marriage.

However, it looks like things have changed. Kris and Caitlyn were spotted hanging out while supporting their daughter Kendall Jenner at the Victoria’s Secret Annual Fashion Show. In addition, E! released a promo for the upcoming season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, where Kim claims that Kris and Caitlyn’s relationship has never been better.

In the teaser, Kim explains, “it’s been an adjustment and it takes time, and that’s OK. That’s normal.” She goes on to say, “[Kris and Caitlyn] are in such a great place now and our family is like totally coming back together, but I do respect that adjustment process and having to just adjust to a different lifestyle. It’s our new normal and everyone is doing such a great job, we communicate really well.”

In addition to Kris and Caitlyn, the new season will also be chronicling the rocky relationship between Kourtney and her ex-boyfriend, Scott Disick. Scott has been in rehab for the past few weeks after struggling with substance and alcohol abuse. However, according to recent reports, the troubled reality star was spotted hanging out in Malibu on Wednesday.

The show’s 11th season premieres this Sunday, November 15 at 9 pm.

jennifer lawrence opens for sawyer 2015 gossipAcademy Award winning actress Jennifer Lawrence isn’t one to open up about her personal life. However, the 25-year-old Hunger Games actress sat down with Diane Sawyer to promote the last installment of the HG series, and wound up opening up about her career and romantic life over the past few years.

Jennifer confessed how lost she felt when filming of the HG movies was finishing up. In addition, shortly after she broke up with her boyfriend of 5 years, Nicholas Hoult (known for Skins and Mad Max 4: Fury Road). She explained, “these movies had been my life for so long and they had to come first in everything. I was also in a relationship with somebody for five years and that was my life. So my life was this person and these movies and we broke up around the same time that I wrapped those movies.” She went on to say, “Being 24 was this whole year of, ‘who am I without these movies? Who am I without this man?’”

Afterward, the young actress tried to imagine herself in a few years and admitted she doesn’t necessarily see herself getting married. Jen confessed, “I don’t know if I ever will get married and I’m OK with that. I don’t feel that I need anything to complete me. I love meeting people, men, women, whatever, I love people coming into your life and bringing something.”

Despite not seeing herself as a married woman, Jennifer insisted she still plans on being a mother. She explained, “I don’t really plan on getting married, [But] I definitely want to be a mother.

You can catch Jennifer reprising her role as heroine Katniss Everdeen in the last Hunger Games installment, Mockingjay Part II on November 20.
