Online TV Threatens VPN Useful Technology Down Under

0

vpn online tv australia 2015 tech imagesVPNs or Virtual Private Networks primarily in the areas of business and secure transactions. However, in Australia and the rest of the world for that matter, VPNs have found a new use — to watch Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Orange is the New Black, The Walking Dead, Firefly, Supernatural, The Flash, Agents of SHIELD, Sherlock and tons of other TV shows that are not immediately or locally available in their countries through streaming services such as Netflix, HBO Now and Hulu. In some circles, such an act is tantamount to piracy while others argue that as long as they’re paid subscribers, such content should be available no matter the location. Now VPN services are under threat down under. Australia seeks to pass a law that could outlaw VPN use.

The intense popularity of the above shows and their immediate unavailability has sparked a massive usage of VPNs in Australia simply for the purpose of watching. It’s estimated that over 200,000 Aussies use VPNs to watch the latest episodes of these shows as well as many other fan favorites in order to keep themselves updated. This is also due to the buzz these shows have generated in social media. What’s a couch potato to do when there’s literally nothing on TV—locally? Oh, they’re available locally alright, several seasons behind, even trumpeted as new.

It is indeed frustrating in itself to see the preview trailer of a new episode of your favorite show on Facebook or Twitter and end up with static and a message saying that the content isn’t available in your location. What’s more frustrating is to see these spoilers when the local content is two seasons behind. Such is the case of UK viewers where Supernatural is one season behind. So to see these trailers, shows and other geo-blocked content, users resort to using VPN services to mask their IP address on their end and convert it to a more acceptable one on the other end enabling users to view and even download blocked content.

But VPNs are more than just for viewing TV shows. Virtual Private Networks are very important business tools especially for businesses with employees that work in the field or for businesses with branches separated by vast distances. VPNs allow these businesses to act cohesively and to operate as if connected by their internal network. VPNs are also used for security, to pass encrypted signals from one point to another by tunneling through the internet keeping others from intercepting these signals.

Here is the ominous first line of the bill:

“The purpose of this Bill is to introduce a key reform to reduce online copyright infringement. The scheme is deliberately prescriptive; it is intended as a precise response to a specific concern raised by copyright owners.”

No words were minced in the making of this bill. The specific concern refers to VPN services used by as an avenue in watching blocked foreign content which despite being readily and willingly paid for constitutes piracy. The notion of paid content being pirated sounds preposterous especially for the casual consumer. The main problem is rooted not to VPNs but the archaic TV distribution system still in effect today. TV studios sell the shows they produce to various local or foreign distributors or TV channels at certain prices. If I’m correct, older episodes are cheaper and the latest, exorbitant. These channels then have exclusive rights to distribute these shows to their locale and any other avenue except for imported DVDs would be illegal. That would mean that shows, viewed in Netflix, Hulu and HBO Now through VPNs, despite being paid for using US credit cards constitute piracy because the aforementioned channels don’t have the rights to show their shows in a certain territory held by entities with exclusive rights to such shows. These entities lose any sponsor revenue and the value of the shows they purchased drop significantly especially if the people watch them even before they’re aired. So if HBO just sold season four of Game of Thrones to Australian distributors, its detrimental to these distributors if Australians watch season 5 on HBO Now through their VPNs. Most would argue that it wouldn’t be their fault since there are a lot of avenues from which to get their desired content. The new law therefore targets the avenue, VPNs.

What are Australian businesses to do if such a crazy law gets passed just because people want to watch the newest on TV? Of course raise a furor. The new law however says that it will target VPN services that exclusively promote such an activity. These VPNs could simply say otherwise and drop their ads and the authorities would then have to stir up privacy concerns if they intend to pursue their case and peer into the data flow. So because they can’t bust them specifically, they’ll have to do it in general. This crazy bill however is not likely to pass if other non-media oriented corporations have anything to say about it.

The idea is still crazy and the bill that needs to be passed is the abolition of the archaic TV distribution model. Studios can easily distribute their shows among hundreds of distributors worldwide. Distributors can still play their shows on traditional TV for the non-connected masses and create online channels for those that can afford broadband and watch them anytime and anywhere. They can charge a small premium for updated episodes locally equal to what people would otherwise pay VPN services to watch.

It’s about time for the movie and TV industry to update themselves much like the music industry has. You can’t tear down the bridge everybody uses just because someone walks too fast.

CATFISH 408: Jamey & Ari Brings In Transgender Issues

catfish jamey ari recap transgender issues 2015 imagesJust as Season 5 of Catfish boots up, I will be reviewing the most recent 5 episodes of the MTV series.

So what is Catfish: The TV Show all about?

The show is a reality series that documents co-hosts Nev Schulman and Max Joseph, as they help people uncover the truth about the people they have developed relationships with over the Internet (i.e. dating sites, forums, etc.).

In terms of the Internet, a “catfish” is defined as someone who creates fake personal profiles on websites, using other people’s pictures and made up information, in order to “lure” in vulnerable people.

This actually happened to co-host Nev Schulman, who discovered the woman he had been in an online relationship with had been completely falsifying her identity to him. Schulman used his experience as motivation to try and help other people uncover the truth about people they have grown emotionally attached with over the Internet, but have never met in person.

The first episode I will be recapping is season 4 episode 9’s “Jamey and Ari.” The show begins by introducing us to “the bait,” which is Jamey, a young “meat-cutter” living in Texas. Jamey had met a girl named Ari on the dating site Plenty of Fish, who is a beautician that resided not too far from Jamie.

However, not surprisingly, it is revealed that Ari always seemed to have a new excuse whenever Jamey would try and arrange a meet up in person. Eventually, after Jamey developed strong feelings for Ari, Ari told Jamey that she had something to tell him and that it would be best if they met on Catfish.

Usually, the “catfish” doesn’t want to be put on the show and have their true identity revealed. However, this is a unique case, in which Ari wants to reveal herself to Jamey while being filmed for national television.

Nev and Max begin investigating into Jamey’s situation. They find out from Jamey that he has actually video-chatted with Ari, but when doing so Ari presents herself so that he can only see her face. At this point Nev and Max speculate that she may be bigger than she lead Jamey to think, and is therefore insecure and nervous to meet in person.

nev with jamey catfish 2015 409 imagesBy using the information Jamey supplies them and their seasoned snooping skills, Nev and Max find several indicators that Ari is not lying about her identity. Her Facebook profile seems to check out, with around 350 friends mainly from the Houston, Texas area (which is where she claims she lives).

However, they do find a status on her profile where she refers to someone being “her man,” and also find a picture of Ari with a man named Caz, who they think could potentially be her husband.

They present their findings to Jamey and suggest that Ari could potentially be married; nonetheless, Jamey still wants to meet with her.

Meanwhile, Ari is sending numerous hostile texts to Jamey, telling him that she no longer wants to go through with the show.

catfish jamey meets ari 409 images 2015Eventually, Nev and Max get Ari to agree to meet up with them (not Jamey) and to talk about her “big secret” that she is scared to tell Jamey.

Ari reveals that when she first met Jamey, she thought they were just going to be friends. She then goes on to reveal her “big secret” – Ari is transgender. She bravely reveals that she is preparing to become a “full girl,” and is taking hormones to get ready for the surgery needed to fully transition.

catfish 409 jamey ari transgender 2015 imagesAt this point, Nev boldly asks Ari (recall: they literally just met about 5 minutes ago) if her previous boyfriend, Caz, knew about her being transgendered. In addition, he asks whether her and Caz had sex (which Ari answers no). There is no question that Nev doesn’t hold back, which I think is beneficial to the basis of the whole show.

Nev and Max take it upon themselves to reveal Ari’s secret to Jamey, which I personally found off-putting, as it seems more suitable for Ari to be the one to reveal it.

Jamey’s initial reaction is filled with shock. He is first hesitant what he wants to do next, but eventually decides to meet up with Ari.

In an incredibly awkward meet-up, Jamey and Ari stand meters apart as Nev and Max interrogate their every thought and emotion they are feeling in the moment.

Probably the best call of the whole show, Jamey decides he wants to sit in private with Ari, which somehow in Catfish world means that their whole conversation is filmed. Here, Ari abruptly ends the conversation, as she no longer wants to talk.

nev and max with james catfish 409In the end, Jamey and Ari maintained minimal interaction. However, Jamey decides he will explore the local dating scene, while Ari, took the situation a bit harder due to Jamey’s decision to end their romantic connection due to her revelation. She does reveal that she now considers Jamey a friend and ultimately feels she has gained from the situation.

This episode seems like perfect timing. Following Caitlyn Jenner’s acceptance speech at the ESPYs and the premiere of TLC’s I am Jazz (about a 14-year-old transgender girl), this episode highlights the difficulties many transgender people face.

Although Nev and Max may take a bold and unapologetic approach to finding the truth behind suspected “catfish”, their techniques definitely create an intriguing show.

about catfish: the tv show

From the producers of the acclaimed documentary film, “Catfish,” comes a new MTV series that brings together couples who’ve interacted solely through their LCD screens. Over the course of months or years – these romantics have become smitten – but what will happen when they meet in real life for the first time?

In each episode, with the guidance and help of the star of the “Catfish” movie, Nev Schulman, and his filmmaking pal, Max Joseph, a hopeful romantic partner will go on an emotional journey to discover the truth about their significant other. Has that object of affection been telling the truth? Will true love truly blossom? When that fateful knock on the front door finally comes – only one thing is certain – that these incredible voyages will be filled with mystery, uncertainty, forgiveness, joy, and sometimes, even shocking revelations.

Demaryius Thomas Sets Precedent for Star Wide Receivers

demaryius thomas sets precedent wide receivers 2015 nflDemaryius Thomas probably thought things couldn’t get much better.

The Denver Broncos Pro Bowl wide receiver and favorite target of quarterback Peyton Manning had a pretty grueling offseason waiting for a deal after being slapped with a franchise tag. And it sure took a while—negotiations went down to the wire, but both sides finally came to an agreement just before the 4 p.m. ET deadline Wednesday.

Five-years, $70 million. The mega deal that both Thomas and Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant were looking for. Sure, it took forever; but Thomas and Bryant’s struggle will make life a whole lot easier for other receivers on the lookout for monster deals in the near future.

“Thank you,” texted Cincinnati Bengals superstar A.J. Green to Thomas after news of the deal broke. Green, who is now on the last year of his current deal with the Bengals, is in the same boat as Atlanta Falcons star Julio Jones, and you know both will have a much easier time with negotiations now that the price of a superstar wide receiver has been set.

And well $70 million is great, Thomas’s week would only get better from there. Remember how President Barack Obama granted commutations to 46 felons recently? Well apparently it was just Thomas’s week—one of those prisoners was his mother, Katina Smith.

“I just had two things happening in one week and it’s just amazing,” said Demaryius in the understatement of the month.

On November 15, the Broncos host the Kansas City Chiefs; and Katina will have the first opportunity to see her son play football in person. You know, the one who just signed a $70 million contract?

Thomas’s mother was serving a sentence of over 20 years for drug-related charges along with her mom, Thomas’s grandmother, who received 40 years on similar charges.

“I talk to my mom on the phone every morning of every game,” said Thomas. “But it’s still strange to me: I’ve got fans in prison because of my mom and my granny.”

I mean, fans are fans. The D. Thomas Fan Club would get together to watch the Bronco games every Sunday with the number 88 written on the front of their shirts.

Demaryius Thomas. The winner of July 2015.

Demi Moore Drowning & Caitlyn Jenner Candis Cayne Rumors Grow

demi moore pool man found drowned 2015 gossipEarly Sunday morning, reports surfaced that a 21-year-old man was found dead inside Demi Moore’s backyard pool.

It has been confirmed that Demi and her family were all away when the incident took place and it appears that none of the family had any involvement in the accident.

The Los Angeles police and fire department were notified early in the morning by an anonymous 911 call, and when they arrived there were 5 people (including some of the house keeping staff) at the scene.

Daughter Rumer Willis is currently in New York preparing to star in the Broadway Musical Chicago, Scout lives in New York and both Demi and Tallulah are in New York City as well, reportedly visiting Rumer after returning from a recent vacation in Paris.

Reports have been saying that the 21-year-old drowned during a late night party that was being held at the house.

In contrast to the reports that Demi’s family was all away, a neighbor revealed to TMZ that some of Demi’s kids have been staying at the house and have been throwing “parties every day, day and night,” which are frequently pool parties.

Police have commented saying that there was “limited amounts of alcohol,” and no foul play was involved in the young man’s death. In addition it appears the man drowned because he slipped and fell into the pool and unfortunately was unable to swim.

caitlyn jenner kissing candis kayne on i am cait 2015 gossipCaitlyn Jenner had a night out on the town. On Saturday night, Caitlyn and actress Candis Cayne hit up The Abbey in West Hollywood, which is a well-known gay bar.

Eyewitnesses recounted seeing a camera crew following Caitlyn, presumably filming for her upcoming docu-series on the E! Network: I Am Cait.

Pictures have surfaced showing Caitlyn wearing a black leather wrap dress, black and silver heels and a black cardigan.  She had her hair lightly curled, while donning gold accessories, including a gold plate necklace that says “Caitlyn.”

Several fellow bar-goers took to social media to share the spotting of the star. One twitter user, posted:

“Me? Oh nothing just hanging out at the Abbey and @Caitlyn_Jenner just showed all of us ladies up. #gorgeous #love #weho #free #LA” – @StephanieRPrice

Stephanie Price, Twitter post:

Another bar patron took to Instagram to share a blurry picture of Caitlyn, sitting down enjoying drinks with her friends.

Sources report that the star surrounded by tight security, but nonetheless was enjoying her time with her friends.

We will be given an inside look into Caitlyn’s new life after her transition when I Am Cait premieres on July 26, on E! You can be sure that E!’s marketing team is pushing hard on those rumors that Caitlyn and Candis will be sharing a tender emotionally uplifting moment on the show by throwing more gas onto the fire that they’re a couple. Or at least dating. It seems that there to share a tender kiss on one of the episodes.

Insiders at E! are also hinting that Candis might become a permanent figure on the show. Since it hits next week, expect more stories trumping up everything Caitlyn Jenner.

Justin Houston Strikes Gold: $101 Million Contract to stay with Kansas City Chiefs

justin houston signs to kansas city chiefs nfl 2015With all the talk about Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas slinging the door open for future star wide receivers, it’s easy to forget that Kansas City Chiefs outside linebacker Justin Houston hit it just as big Wednesday before the 4 p.m. ET deadline for franchise tagged players to sign multi-year deals.

Actually, Houston hit it even further than Dez and Demaryius. He knocked it out of the metaphorical park, signing a six-year, $101 million deal—the richest in Chiefs history and the richest in NFL history for a linebacker.

“They told me at the end of the season to be patient and we’ll get a deal done, just be patient and just wait, and time will take care of it,” said Houston after penning his name on the monster deal. “That’s what I did. I sat back and waited for them.”

Well the Chiefs definitely came through for him, making their sack king the second-highest-paid defensive player in the league in terms of guaranteed cash, ranking ‘only’ $7.45 million behind Ndamukong Suh.

The Chiefs weren’t exactly in the best negotiating position. Houston was pretty clear that if the deal didn’t get done, he had no problem sitting out until the regular season. When a sack artist comes half a sack away from breaking Michael Strahan’s 2001 single-season record of 22.5, it’s best to just keep him happy.

When you play like J.J. Watt, you get J.J. Watt money.

Houston is also living proof that one stupid mistake doesn’t have to ruin your career. Houston was one of the top prospects in the draft after his time with Georgia, but a failed drug test dropped him to the third round, which, in turn, hurt his pocket book quite a bit.

In fact, Houston only made about $3 million over the course of his rookie contract. So apparently $3 million buys you 200 tackles and 48.5 sacks. Quite the return.

Houston gets to make up for lost time (money) now, much the way he bounced back and stayed clean.

Take note, Randy Gregory.

TRUE DETECTIVE 204: Down Will Come Some Intense Action

true detective colin ferrell down will come recap images 2015This week’s installment of True Detective was the action packed answer to the first season’s episode that blew us all away with the insane ghetto scene involving Detective Rust Cohle. Nothing could top the tense scene as Rust managed to get through a multitude of gang bangers and an out of control motorcycle gang, but last night’s ‘Down Will Come’ was pretty great.

I feel really bad for my boy Vince Vaughn‘s character, Frank. Imagine you have lost all your money, which took decades of hustling, fighting, killing, and avoiding your own murder. Then think of the pressure to get all that money back in a timely fashion and mix in a wife who is desperate to have a child. Frank has pressure galore. Now his wife is suggesting adoption. This is a direct hit to Frank’s manhood I would think, even though he says he doesn’t want to take on someone else’s problem. By the way, Frank’s wife stepped her game up this week with major cleavage, which HBO received zero complaints about.

We see Officer Paul wake up in a haze in his “friend’s” apartment. He isn’t sure how he even got there and gets bombarded with the paparazzi as he hits the streets. They mention his former outfit, Black Mountain as they clamor for any juicy details about the cop accused of soliciting an actress.

Frank is making move after move on old associates. He offers up a more than fair deal to a couple of gangsters and shows us once again that he is not intimidated by anyone. Frank reminds one of the gentlemen that he has “never lost a tooth,” indicating he knows what the hell he is doing with this extra sweet deal.

Things have gone sideways when Ray Velcoro is the voice of reason. Ray prescribes some vodka then some Pedialite for Paul to get through the hangover. Paul is a mess and could use a pep talk from Coach Eric Taylor about now. Clear Eyes, Full Hearts…..

Ani gets a lead in the Casper case and we find out about her mom’s death when Ani was just 12. She also visits her sister, of webcam fame. The online sex artist may end up having a connection to one of the shady big time players before it’s over.

What is the “best thing that could’ve happened” to a gay motorcycle cop? His girlfriend getting pregnant of course! He suggests they get married. Some half hearted “I guess I love you toos,” should make for marital bliss for years if not weeks.

The more I see Ani’s hippie daddy, the more I see his connection with some bad folks. He shows her some old pics of Mayor Chessani along with the psychologist that was treating Casper before he was tortured to death. There is an EPA connection as well as we find out that Casper had numerous visits to some toxic sites.

Ani tries to defend Velcoro to her superiors but they aren’t really interested. Oh and Steve has filed a sexual complaint on her. That should add some stress to the pile. She can’t believe a grown man would stoop to that level. Me either! It’s possible that Mayor Scarface had his grubby fingers in this complaint. Some gambling debts are also an issue for the female detective so she has more to deal with than a dead city manager.

true detective 204 down will come colin ferrell shot 2015 imagesAnother meeting between Frank and Ray…with live music of course. This time Frank offers Ray full time work. He says the guy is wasting his talents as a cop. Our boy Ray isn’t killing glass fulls of liquor anymore but does sip on a beer this go around. A clear head makes it less likely you get another shotgun blast to the chest, studies show. Ray has another secret visit with his son and gives him a memento. Velcoro is a good guy at heart, but has been bad so long it is hard to see it.

The big scene was set around Ani and a pack of cops trying to get to the suspect in the Casper case. The team wasn’t ready for the real action since they didn’t have any automatic weapons. The bad guys sure did….lots! The strike team was pinned down until Paul finally got a good shot on the maniac with the assault rifle above them, but not before they lost some fellow cops that were shot down like dogs.

Ani showed her fearlessness again as she gave chase to an SUV full of mean SOBs with lots of bullets and bad intentions. This was a bloodbath of epic proportions as the police were simply out gunned. It reminded me of a Los Angeles bank robbery years ago with the police at the mercy of the crooks who were suited with body armor and armed with heavy artillery. After untold amounts of innocent bystanders were mowed down with uzis, Ani’s suspect grabs a hostage. I was waiting for a great kill shot from Paul, but that wasn’t necessary as the guy just popped the hostage in the head then got put down by Ani and Ray. So all this work and still no answers since their lead suspect was bleeding out on the streets.

colin ferrell hot block true detective 204 2015 images recapIf this is what the mayor wanted then he is even worse than I thought. Dead cops and civilians everywhere is not a good look. The ones who are going to get looked at hard are Ani, Ray, and Paul. All three have been living on the edge of the rule book recently so maybe that was the high level criminals’ plan. Just have a patsy set up to die at the hands of some allegedly shady cops.

I wanted to see Ani bleed somebody with one of her blades during the gun fight, but that was just a tease….maybe next week. Somebody’s head is going to roll next episode. Dead cops everywhere cannot stand. Since Ani was the leader of this team, it may get even worse than a sexual misconduct complaint.

TRUE DETECTIVE 203: He’s Alive! Maybe Tomorrow

true detectie 203 maybe tomorrow recap images 2015OK, I was dead wrong about last weeks True Detective and Colin Farrell being killed. Detective Ray Velcoro is not in fact dead. I’m glad the character is still around (he’s angry as hell mind you), but it seems shady to let us think he was dead. If he had a Kevlar vest on that would have been one thing, but the reason he is still alive is because the assailant used riot shells. Apparently riot shells ain’t shit, so I doubt many riots have been quelled by this ammunition.

The scene to start the episode with Velcoro sitting with his father as a cowboy singer in a sequined jacket belted out “The Rose” was awesome. I figured he was in purgatory or hell or maybe cop heaven, but it was just a dream apparently.

There is no doubt about Ani’s focus. She doesn’t even ask Ray how he’s doing at first when she shows up to the scene of his shooting! She is just pissed that he went in alone without her knowledge.

Frank Semyon’s life got no easier this week. His finances are in shambles and people know it. Even low level thugs are rubbing that fact in his face. We’ll get to that later. Frank also had the humiliation of going limp at the fertility clinic. I’m not sure it’s the norm to have the wife go in to help with a BJ or not, but that is the route Frank and wifey Jordan went, to no avail. Dude is clearly frustrated with his business dealings falling apart and it’s affecting his marriage. Jordan offers some good advice to the man, “suck your own dick.” I’m sure he’s thought of that already, again, to no avail.

I don’t know if Marlboro is staging a big campaign against e-cigarettes or it’s Newport who wants to clown the safer version of smoking. Whatever the case, True Detective is making a point to make fun of the new trend. Motorcycle cop Paul has the same reaction to Ani vaping up as Velcoro did. Can’t be a real cop without a real cig I guess.

The meeting between Frank and Ray isn’t a friendly one at all. Ray is pretty bent about being blasted with a shotgun and knows he could easily be dead if the shooter had wanted it that way. Ray is even drinking water as he tells Frank he doesn’t want to lose the edge of being angry by dousing it with booze. If Frank wanted to kill Ray, Ray would not be sitting at that table. But the detective isn’t sure what to think at this point. I do think the shooting has awakened the old Ray Velcoro. One who actually cares about living.

Detective Ani Bezzerides and Officer Paul Woodrugh’s visit to the Mayor’s house was quite entertaining. The crooked politician has a real jacked up family. His slutty wife is constantly sucking on an ether bag dressed like she is headed to an elegant dinner while lounging around her home in the middle of the day. The mayor’s son is a real piece of work who tossed a lady into the pool from the balcony and for some reason likes to use a fake accent to appear more like a gangster. The home reminds me of Scarface’s mansion with weird paintings and the extravagance of a modern day king. The place is a zoo! I am loving Ani more and more each week with her Raylan Givens type confidence. She looks like she is just itching to shoot or stab someone every time someone steps to her.

Frank’s little empire has all but crumbled since the murder of Casper so he is in full desperation mode. He continues to shake guys down for cash. He is going back to old acquaintances that have already paid in full on his way to the top. Good decisions are never made while desperate as Frank said himself in episode one when talking about doing things out of hunger.

Needless to say, Mayor Chessani is pissed about Ani and Paul visiting his home and asking questions of his weirdo family. Ray tries to explain the situation, but all the mayor wants is Ani’s head on a spike. Ani doesn’t want to hear anymore about Velcoro being dirty. All she wants to do is solve the murder case. Her superiors seem more interested in taking down the compromised detective.

Ani knows how to break up with a guy. Quick and to the point and as nice as she could be. Steve didn’t take it so well and got further embarrassed since he didn’t take the initial hint to go away. The former lover told Ani she had a bunch of problems, so she responded, “I’m whittling them down.” Ouch!

The sit down between Ray and his dad was interesting. The weed was a side note for the old guy. Ray wanted to know more about the history of the mayor and how he came up from the old days. Velcoro’s dad has a lot of respect for the mayor and sees him as super smart.

We get more of the same from the Russian gangster Osip Agronov. Frank now thinks this guy could have whacked Casper. It’s certainly possible, but at this point Frank is just grasping at straws and now his right hand man is acting suspicious so Semyon is growing more paranoid each second. One of his associates is killed in a nasty fashion so that isn’t going to make things better.

OK, now we know why Paul was having such a hard time getting excited about his amorous girlfriend in episode one. Dude appears to be gay and have had a fling with a former military friend back in the day. They are hanging out at……a motocross race….of course! Paul loves motorcycles as much as he hates e-cigarettes. Dude loses his cool when his buddy reminds him of their past as short term lovers, so Paul erupted and nearly puled his gun on the guy. Easy son, a simple “no” would have sufficed.

We witness Ray’s ex wife show compassion for the guy as she warns him about the state police questioning her about his dealings. She offers him money to just disappear. I think she wants to help him even though his disappearance would clearly make her life easier also. This is the second hint that we see where Ray has the chance to leave all this. The first being the waitress inviting him to vacation in her home country far away. He has no thought of leaving.

I was thrilled to see the fat club owner get what he had coming. He disrespected Frank in front of other associates and got a pretty solid beating from a skilled pugilist. Frank then proceeded to yank that hideous grill out of the fat man’s mouth. That’s exactly what should happen to morons who sport such “jewelery.” You look like fools people!

More action happened after Frank won his fight via TKO. Ani and Velcoro saw the Caddy connected to Casper get set on fire by a masked dude. They chased him down, once again with Ani showing no fear whatsoever. Ray was slowed by his chest wounds and was more cautious. He ended up saving Ani from being splattered by a semi truck just as she was ready to shoot the suspect. She was thankful and to return the favor, told him that she had no idea what the state police had on him after he asked.

Next week’s preview looked even better and I am fully into this season. It’s hard to pick a favorite character, but if I had to choose, it would be Ani Bezzerides.

Pictures have surfaced of a limousine full of girls unloading in front of Disick’s house. In addition, Love and Hip Hop: Hollywood star and music producer Mally Mall was also shown going into the house. Mally is a business partner of Scott’s, but that doesn’t mean he’s necessary good news, considering he has had his house raided in the past by the FBI due to allegations he was running an escort service. Plus she’s been investigated by the FBI for human trafficking. Hmm

According to sources, Kourtney is furious with Scott and is shocked by how he continues to embarrass her and their kids with his partying and reckless behavior.

Disick is claiming all this partying is purely innocent. He say that he invited all these beautiful women to his private home strictly for business. They’re shooting a music video he says.

She continues talking about the extent to which they have had to prioritize their children over their personal emotions for each other, saying:

“What that really mean is, ‘Even though today, you hate me and you never want to see me again, like we’re going to brunch, ‘cause it’s Sunday and that’s what we’ll do!’ You know, like, ‘That’s what happening!’ Like, the children are our commitment.”

chris martin gwyneth paltrow open relationship 2015 gossioThe couple married in 2003 and were married for 11-years, when they announced their divorce in 2014 due to “conscious uncoupling.”

Both stars have moved on from the relationship, as Chris has been romantically linked with Jennifer Lawrence and Paltrow has been said to be dating Glee co-star Brad Falchuk.

Although the couple is no longer together, they are obviously very committed to their family, as Gwen mentioned. They actually spent Valentine’s Day together with their kids and went to Mexico all together in April.

Gwen also opened up about her adoration for Chris, saying:

“I like him. He’s great. He’s a great dad and so, I feel lucky that we both, along the way, have been able to really put down our own stuff while we’re together with the family and that we make it a priority to be together so that the transition for the children wasn’t, you know, as brutal as it could be.”

American League Winners & Losers Week 14

albert pujoils american league winner week 14 top man angles 2015 imagesThe first half of the Major League Baseball season is officially in the books as Mike Trout takes home the MVP Award at the 2015 All-Star Game. Trout became the first player in Major League Baseball history to take home the award in back to back seasons earning him a spot on our winners list from the first half of the 2015 Major League Baseball Season.

Along with the MVP Award, Trout accomplished something that we might not ever see again in baseball history that many people have not talked about. In his first about four years ago, the Angels outfielder picked up a single, a season later in his first at bat Trout picked up a double, last season a triple in his first at bat. This season Trout continued the four year cycle picking up a first inning home run off of Zach Greinke in route to winning the award.

Trout finished the 2015 Major League Baseball All-Star game going two for three with a home run, two runs scored and one run driven in. Currently Trout has put together another MVP like first half as he hit .312 over his first 88 games with 26 home runs and 55 runs batted in. This type of production along with the home run power the Angels have gotten of late from Albert Pujols helped the team climb the standings to first place just before the All-Star game.

Here some of the other winners and losers from around the American League over the first half of the 2015 Major League Baseball season.

Winners:

Dallas Keuchel, Houston Astros: While the Astros struggles continued rolling into the All-Star break, Keuchel has been the teams driving force in route to making the American League All-Star team. The Astros starter is currently tied with Felix Hernandez for the American League lead with 11 wins at the break and sits second behind Sonny Gray in earned run average with a 2.23. Keuchel had allowed just six runs over his final 30 innings entering the break with 31 strikeouts.

Albert Pujols, Los Angeles Angels: Pujols is putting together a big season for the Angels after somewhat down seasons over his first three in Los Angeles. While many fans are looking for the high average to return something that is less likely his power numbers have returned. Pujols has 26 home runs and 56 runs driven in over his first 85 games. The 26 home runs is just four off of his high of 30 with the Angels back in 2012. Look for Pujols to continue his success as his home run totals have the chance to top the 575 mark in the second half with a strong surge.

Kansas City Royals: It is hard to look past how well the Royals performed in the first half playing to the best record in the American League and third best record in all of baseball. Currently the Royals sit at 52-34 with a 4.5 game lead over the Minnesota Twins in the first half of the season. The team continues to prove that 2014 was no fluke as many wondered if the team could make another run after coming up just short of a World Series title. This team is built around no big name super star with one of the top bullpens in all of baseball. That has shown up as the team has allowed just 317 runs in the first half  the fewest in the American League.

J.D. Martinez, Detroit Tigers: Yes Cabrera might be the face of the Tigers and yes he is hitting .350 over the first half. Unfortunately Cabrera is currently on the disabled list leaving the door open for another player to step up. That player is Martinez who has 25 home runs sitting just behind Trout and Pujols as well as fifth in runs batted in with 59. Martinez is hitting .289 on the season with 25 home runs and 59 runs batted in.

Sonny Gray, Oakland A’s: The A’s have been a disaster over the first half of the Major League Baseball season. That being said, Gray currently leads the American League with a 2.04 earned run average to go with the second most wins in the league with 10.

Other notable winners over the first half include the New York Yankees, Josh Donaldson, the Minnesota Twins, Alex Rodriguez, Jason Kipnis and Prince Fielder.

Losers:

Oakland A’s/Seattle Mariners: We put these two teams together as both teams are playing in the American League West and both have just 41 wins over the first half of the season. These two teams were expected to be contenders this season but that has not been the case. This includes the Mariners adding a few key offseason pieces including American League Home Run leader from 2014 Nelson Cruz.

Shin-Soo Choo, Texas Rangers: When you are making $14 million dollars for any season we expect the numbers to be much better. Overall Choo, is hitting just .221 over his first 307 at bats with 11 home runs and 38 runs batted in. Prior to signing with the Ranger last season, the former Cincinnati Reds/Cleveland Indians outfielder had posted at least a .280 average in four of his previous five seasons while his on base percentage topped the .400 mark twice.

CC Sabathia, New York Yankees: The Yankees put together an unbelievable first half after many experts predicted them to finish in the middle of the pact. That being said the success can’t be contributed to Sabathia as he finished the first half at 4-8 with a 5.47 earned run average in 17 starts.

Chris Tillman, Baltimore Orioles: Much of the Orioles struggles at times this season has been with their lack of consistent hitting but Tillman’s bad start has also contributed. Tillman who the Orioles were looking to lock up long term is just 6-7 over his first 17 starts with an 5.40 earned run average over the first half of 2015.

Other notable losers over the first half include the Boston Red Sox, R.A Dickey, Mike Zunino, Brandon Moss, the Cleveland Indians, the Baltimore Orioles and the Chicago White Sox.

National League Winners & Losers Week 14

bryce harper national league winner week 14 top man 2015 imagesThe hometown kid Todd Frazier lands atop the winners list after taking home the 2015 Home Run Derby crown in front of his town fans in Cincinnati, Frazier who beat out rookie outfielder Joc Pederson of the Los Angeles Dodgers at Great American Ball Park on Monday Night. Frazier who finished runner up last season to Yoenis Cespedes connected with less than a minute remaining to defeat Pederson.

The Reds third baseman is putting together a brilliant 2015 campaign hitting .284 over his first 85 games with 25 home runs and 57 runs batted in. Unfortuantly for him he has been overlooked by many fans this year simply based on how Bryce Harper and Paul Goldschmidt have played the first half. That being said Frazier now owns a home run derby title on his resume as the second half of the 2015 campaign opens up on Friday.

While Frazier is putting together a great first half the Reds can’t say the same thing as they currently sit in fourth place in the National League Central division while trailing the first place St. Louis Cardinals by 15.5 games. This opens up the door for the club to be sellers at the break that could lead to the team trading away players like Jay Bruce and Johnny Cueto.

Here are some of the other winners and losers from around the American League over the first half of the 2015 Major League Baseball season.

Winners:

Bryce Harper, Washington Nationals: The Nationals outfielder might have put together the best season of his young career but all in the first half of 2015. Harper entered the break second in batting average in the National League at .339, second in home runs at 26 and fourth in runs batted in at 61. His production has helped the Nationals to the top of the National League East with a 48-39 record.

Gerrit Cole, Pittsburgh Pirates: Cole put together an unbelievable first half helping the Pirates to the second best record in all of baseball behind division rivals the St. Louis Cardinals. Cole currently leads all of baseball with 13 wins while sitting fifth in the National League with a earned run average at 2.30.

Paul Goldschmidt, Arizona Diamondbacks: The Diamondbacks have struggled for most of the first half but still sit in the playoff picture trailing the Los Angeles Dodgers by just 7.5 games. That being said even if the team falls out of contention fans will have something to root for as Goldschmidt continues his pace for a chance to take home the Triple Crown in 2015. The Diamondbacks first baseman is first in the National League in batting average, fifth in home runs and first in runs batted in.

St. Louis Cardinals: The Cardinals put together one of the best first halves we have seen in a long time including picking up 50 wins before losing their 25th game. The team has done it with starting pitching including Carlos Martinez and Michael Wacha who each have ten wins at the All-Star Break. Along with starting pitching the team has seen some solid production out of Jhonny Peralta who could play himself into the MVP picture in the National League.

Other notable winners over the first half include the Washington Nationals, Giancarlo Stanton, Nolan Arenado, Zach Greinke, the New York Mets, A.J. Burnett and Max Scherzer.

Losers:

Jimmy Rollins, Los Angeles Dodgers: Rollins is not the young start we have come to see over his career with the Philadelphia Phillies. That being said the Dodgers traded for Rollins to help solidify the infield as well as the team’s offense. That hasn’t been the case as Rollins is hitting just .213 over his first 314 at bats while posting just a .266 on base percentage.

Colorado Rockies: No one expected the Rockies to be a contenders in the National League West this season but to see them struggle as bad as they have to start the season is disappointing. While the lineup includes top talent of Nolan Arenado, Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki, the pitching rotation doesn’t have the arms to compete. The team has struggled allowing the most runs in the division and only have given up fewer than the Philadelphia Phillies. That could be easy to say since the team does play in a hitter friendly ballpark at Coors Field.

Matt Garza/Kyle Lohse, Milwaukee Brewers: The Brewers have struggled in the National League Central and much of their issues can be blamed on their starting rotation. A rotation that includes two veterans that have been able to put up some solid numbers over the years. That hasn’t been the case this year as Garza has pitched to a 4-10 record with a 5.55 earned run average. Then you have Lohse who has pitched to a 5-10 record with a league high 6.17 earned run average among starters with the correct amount of qualified starts.

Philadelphia Phillies: We all love to see the household names of any team get taking care of and finish with the same club. The downside is what we have seen with the Phillies this year as Chase Utley and Ryan Howard have both struggled. This is the same team that took home a World Series just a few years back and paid all of their household names. Unfortunately that philosophy did not work as the team has yet to get back to the World Series and those names are now just aging veterans. Now the club sits with the worst record in all of baseball at 29-62.

Other notable losers over the first half include the San Diego Padres, Jeremy Hellickson, Ian Desmond, Billy Hamilton and the Miami Marlins.

American League Week 14 Recap: World Series Home Field Advantage

manny machado orioles sexy top man american league week 14 2015 imagesThe 2015 Major League Baseball All-Star game is in the books as the second half is set to open up on Friday. This has been a busy past ten days as we have seen a shake up in the American League West heading into the All-Star Break. Follow that up with an American League 6-3 win that guarantees the American League home field advantage in the World Series.

Before we start to look at each of the three American League divisions individually we first want to start by looking at the Los Angeles Angels. The same Angels team that started off slow, fell to the bottom of the American League West division and traded off Josh Hamilton for almost nothing.

Now these Angels have climbed themselves back up the standings to take home first place in the division at 48-40. Their late success prior the All-Star break including winning seven of their last ten games while the Houston Astros played to just a 2-8 record over that stretch helped propel them to the top.

Much of the Angels success in the first half came with their powerful lineup that includes MVP Mike Trout and former MVP Albert Pujols. The Angels pitching staff has been solid all season allowing the fewest runs in the American League and second fewest in the American League.

Here is a quick American League Recap of the first half as we get set for an action packed second half.

American League East: The American League East continues to be an up and down division that now has the New York Yankees sitting in first place at the break. Much of the teams’ success came with a solid stretch including winning seven of their last ten games before the break. Add in a bad stretch that included seeing the Tampa Bay Rays play to a 4-6 record, the Baltimore Orioles to a 2-8 record and Toronto Blue Jays a 3-7 record.

Add in a Boston Red Sox team that has won six of their last ten games to move themselves within six and half games heading into the break. For now this division is the Yankees to lose as they continue to produce at the plate helping them to overcome a struggling pitching staff that has seen CC Sabathia and Mashario Tanaka struggle at times.

The team’s one big advantage is having one of the best eighth and ninth inning combination in all of baseball in Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller. Betances is 5-2 with seven saves with a 1.53 earned run average in 41 appearances. Despite missing some time, Miller appeared in 29 games picking up 18 saves and a 1.53 earned run average.

American League Central: The first half has completely belonged to the Kansas City Royals as they sit with the best record in the American League at 52-34 and in first place by 4.5 games in the Central division. The teams’ success showed up at the Mid Summer Classic as Salvador Perez, Lorenzo Cain and Alcides Escobar securing starting spots on the American League roster.

Now the teams offense has been solid the teams’ success is still with their pitching as they currently lead the American League allowing just 317 runs.  The starting pitching has been solid but the teams bullpen has been brilliant including Wade Davis, Jason Frasor, Kelvin Herrera, Ryan Madson, Franklin Morales and Greg Holland.

Out of that group Davis has been the leader picking up a 5-1 record to go with nine saves in 39 appearances. The more impressive stat is the fact he allowed just two earned runs over that stretch while pitching to a .46 earned run average.

While the Royals have been one of the hotter teams, the Minnesota Twins have been one of the bigger surprises in all of baseball. The Twins currently hold the second best record at 49-40 and currently sit in second place in the central division. Following the Twins is the Detroit Tigers who have been without Miguel Cabrera since July third after suffering an injury.

Round out the division is the Cleveland Indians at 42-46 in fourth while the Chicago White Sox sit in last place at 41-45.

American League West: In what might be one of the more surprising turn of events before the break the Angels have found a way to dethrone the Astros atop the American League West. A hot stretch that saw the Angels win fives straight games along with a seven of their last ten before the break.

While the team success picking up wins helped them move up the board the Astros struggles helped along the way. That included losing six straight entering the All-Star break after being swept by the Rays and losing three of four against the Indians. The Astros also lost the final two games of against the Red Sox putting them at just 2-8 before the break.

One of the Angels biggest key factors has been the hot play of Albert Pujols prior to the All-Star break. Pujols currently leads the American League tied with teammate Mike Trout with 26 home runs. Pujols is hitting .255 to go with 26 home runs and 56 runs batted in.

Outside of the Astros and Angels, the Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners and Oakland A’s have all struggled. The Rangers who put together a hot streak played to just a 2-8 record prior to the break while the Mariners have been one of the biggest disappointments in all of baseball at just 41-48.

Here are a few players that stood out on paper in the first half of the season in the American League.

Manny Machado, Baltimore Orioles: While Trout and Cabrera continue to put together another big season the name that has surprised us this season is Manny Machado. Machado who is coming off of two knee surgeries is hitting .298 with 19 home runs and 48 runs batted in while playing gold glove defense at third base. Machado made his second All-star appearance picking up an rbi and double after appearing in the home run derby on Monday Night.

Dallas Keuchel, Houston Astros: Much of the Astros early first half success has come with their pitching including Keuchel. Keuchel currently leads the American League tied with Felix Hernandez with 11 wins while sitting just behind Sonny Gray in earned run average with a 2.23 over the first half.

National League Week 14 Recap: Bryce Harper & Paul Godschmidt Top First Half

paul goldschmidt national league top man 2015 diamondbacksThe 2015 Major League Baseball All-Star game brought the first half of the season to an end. Unfortunately for the National League the teams’ high powered offense built around players like Paul Goldschmidt and Bryce Harper couldn’t get the bats going, falling to the American League 6-3. This loss means that the American League will control home field advantage throughout the World Series.

While the All-Star game didn’t go the way the National League would have liked, the first half produced a ton of great moments. This included Max Scherzer throwing a no-hitter, two players putting up Triple Crown like numbers and a St. Louis Cardinals team that joined an elite group of teams reaching fifty wins before twenty five losses.

In the end the Cardinals were able to play to a 56-33 despite picking up only five wins over their last ten games before the break. That included losing three straight games against the Pittsburgh Pirates who only trail the Cardinals by two and half games.

Along with the Cardinals we saw a few other top performances from a few other teams around National League including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals.

Here is a quick recap of the National League during the first half of the 2015 Major League Baseball season.

National League East: The National League East continues to be a two team race between the Washington Nationals and New York Mets. That shows up in the standings as the Nationals currently sit at 48-39 record while the Mets sit at 47-42 record. Despite sitting behind two games, the Mets made a bid stride over the past ten games winning seven of ten while the Nationals posted just a 5-5 record.

The question entering the second half of the season is whether or not these two teams could have some company within the division. Currently the only other team in the division that could make some noise is the Atlanta Braves who are 42-47. The other two teams the Miami Marlins are at 38-51 while the Philadelphia Phillies have the worst record in baseball at 29-62.

For us the Nationals have been one of the more exciting teams to watch this season with both Scherzer and Harper putting together big seasons.

National League Central: While the NL East might have one of the best teams in all of baseball the National League Central might have been the toughest division in all of baseball in the first half led by the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals have played to the best record in baseball at 56-33. Then you have the Pittsburgh Pirates at 53-35 then the Chicago Cubs at 47-40.

We have even seen some life out of both the Cincinnati Reds who hosted the All-Star game and the Milwaukee Brewers. In the end we could see at least two teams making the post season from this division with a possibility of a third team ensuring the division would take home both wild card spots.

After a slow start by the Pirates, the team has been one of the more hotter teams in baseball winning eight of ten entering the All-Star break. The run put the team just two and half games behind the Cardinals along with the second best record in all of baseball.

Now the team that we have been watching since before the season has been the Cubs who currently hold the final wild card spot just ahead of the Mets. This team landed one of the top free agents in Jon Lester to bolster the rotation while the team called up Kris Bryant a few weeks after opening day.

Bryant has been solid hitting .269 with 12 home runs and 51 runs batted in 78 games played. This division should be an entertaining one to watch as the second half of the season gets underway on Friday.

National League West: Now the Los Angeles Dodgers have lived up to the hype as they currently sit at 51-39 at the All-Star break while leading the San Francisco Giants by 4.5 games. That being said it has been one of the more disappointing divisions in all of baseball including the San Diego Padres.

The Padres had to let go their manager after a slow start something that has not helped turn the season around. This comes after a winter that saw the team add Matt Kemp, Will Myers and Justin Upton. Unfortunatly the teams struggles have came on the mound as the team has allowed the fourth most runs in the division. These struggles have shown up in the standings as they sit at 41-49.

Along with the Padres the Colorado Rockies have been a big disappointment with a star studded lineup that includes Nolan Arenado, Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki. Much like the Padres the team can’t pitch and it has shown up in the 443 runs they have allowed to this point. Only the Philadelphia Phillies have allowed more runs this at the break.

Here a few players who put up a big first half in the National League.

Paul Goldschmidt, Arizona Diamondbacks: We totally feel bad for this guy as he is one of the best players in baseball but plays on one of the worst teams in baseball. At this moment, Goldschmidt and Bryce Harper could battle it out to take home the National League Triple Crown Award. Goldschmidt leads the National League with a .340 batting average while tied for first place with 70 runs batted in and sits in fifth with 21 home runs.

Bryce Harper, Washington Nationals: You could argue Harper and Goldschmidt could both take home the National League MVP award. Harper sits in second with a .339 batting average, second in home runs in the National League with 26 and fourth in runs batted in with 61. This is been one special season for the Nationals outfielder who won’t turn 23 till after the regular season in October.
