American League Winners & Losers Week 13

jd martinez american league winner week 13 2015 imagesThe calendar month has flipped over to the July as we celebrated another Fourth of July around the American League over this past weekend. The fireworks were flying all week long as we continue to see the teams around the American League battle it out for the right position to make a playoff push come late September.

Along with the great action on the field the American League All-Star starting roster was announced Sunday with the rest of the roster expected to be announced at some point today.

Before we start to take a look at this past week regards to Winners and Losers on the field we wanted to take a quick look at the All-Star starting lineup winners. The biggest of those was Josh Donaldson for the Toronto Blue Jays. Donaldson took home the top vote getter award for both the American League and National League as he set a single season record with over 14 million votes.

Along with Donaldson the other key names earning honors for the American League was Miguel Cabrera, Mike Trout, Nelson Cruz and Jose Altuve. The top team to represent the American League was the Kansas City Royals who will send four players to the All-Star game to start including Salvador Perez, Alcides Escobar, Lorenzo Cain and Alex Gordon.

Here are the rest of the winners and losers around the American League for the Fourth Of July Week. Who will make the list next week as the Major League Baseball season approaches the 2015 All-Star game. Check back next week for our all new list of Winners and Losers!

American League Winners:

Josh Donaldson, Toronto Blue Jays: Donaldson is putting together another strong season in 2015 and this time for the Blue Jays. Through his first 83 games this season, Donaldson is hitting .296 with 19 home runs and 56 runs batted in helping the Blue Jays to contend in the American League East. This production earned him the starting third base position for the American League roster as well as the most votes all-time.

Kansas City Royals: The Royals continue to be one of the top teams in the American League as they control the American League Central by 4.5 games entering Monday. This production showed up during the announcement of the 2015 American League All-Star roster as the team produced four starters that will take the field in Cincinnati. The list of Royals could grow as Ned Yost will have a chance to name a few additional members as the manager of this year’s roster.

Los Angeles Angels: Now looking at the play over the past week or so the Angels have been one of the hotter teams around the American League. Entering, Monday the Halos are riding a three game winning streak while winning eight of their past ten games to move within three games of the first place Houston Astros. This includes taking two of three against the New York Yankees to open the week before sweeping the struggling Texas Rangers over the weekend.

J.D. Martinez, Detroit Tigers: While Martinez was not voted in as a starter for the Mid Summer Classic, he is however putting together a terrific season for the Tigers. Martinez is hitting .285 on the year with 23 home runs and 56 runs batted in. Over the past week, Martinez picked up four home runs to go with 10 runs batted in while raising his batting average up from .270 that he entered the week with.

American League Losers:

American League All-Star Roster: While I can’t blame the players for this but I can blame Major League Baseball for the way this is set up. Despite eliminating some votes of late the roster is still a disappointment and the fan voting is getting out of hand. Where is Jose Bautista or Jason Kipnis or even J.D. Martinez? Bautista and Martinez are both deserving of a spot this season. If this game continues to determine home field advantage for the World Series then the top players should be starting.

Chris Parmelee, Baltimore Orioles: After his fast start after being called up the Baltimore Orioles first baseman has struggled of late. Over the past week, Parmelee picked up just one hit in 14 at bats seeing his average continue to drop over 40 points from .302 to .246 in just one week. While we have seen Buck Showalter work his magic over the past few weeks, Parmelee continues to a player who dominates in the minors but can’t put it together in the Majors.

Tampa Bay Rays: The Rays have seen themselves drop from first place in the American League East to third place after a rough stretch. This includes this past week where the team managed to be swept by the Cleveland Indians in a four game series at home scoring just eight runs in the four games. The team followed that up losing the first two to the Yankees in New York before picking up an 8-1 win on Sunday.

Detroit Tigers: The Tigers had a difficult week both on and off the field that included losing All-Star first baseman Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera was placed on the disabled list with a calf injury after leaving mid game earlier in the week. The Tigers also struggled on the field being swept at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates but managed to salvage two wins of a three game series over the weekend against the Blue Jays.

Mark Trumbo, Seattle Mariners: A few weeks back the trade to acquire Trumbo from the Arizona Diamondbacks looked to be a good one. Now after seeing him pick up just one hit over his last 14 at bats we are starting to wonder if the Diamondbacks saw something in him to let him go. Trumbo has just one home run since being acquired by the Mariners back in the early part of June.

National League Winners & Losers Week 13

bryce harper national league winner week 13 images mbl 2015The Major League Baseball action is red hot in the National League as the 2015 All-Star game approaches. This includes seeing MVP like performances from a variety of players including both Bryce Harper and Paul Goldschmidt. This production showed up on Sunday as both players were announced as starters for this year’s Mid-Summer classic.

Harper was the leading vote getter in the National League after a big first half that saw him hit his 25th home run in his first 81 games of the season. Now entering Monday, Harper is hitting .347 with 25 home runs and 60 runs batted in. This production on the field helped see Harper pick up over 13.9 million All-Star votes from fans around the country.

Along with Harper, Goldschmidt is having one of the best seasons in all of baseball as both of these players could challenge each other for the Triple Crown Award in the National League. Goldschmidt currently leads the National League with a .348 batting average while sitting in fifth with 20 home runs and tied for second with 67 runs batted in.

For these two players the fireworks have come far before we celebrated Fourth of July this season. Joining them on the roster includes Dee Gordon, Giancarlo Stanton, Matt Holliday, Buster Posey, Todd Frazier and Johnny Peralta. Holliday is expected to return from the disabled list but Stanton will miss the game with a wrist injury.

Here are the rest of the winners and losers around the National League for the Fourth Of July Week. Who will make the list next week as the Major League Baseball season approaches the 2015 All-Star game. Check back next week for our all new list of Winners and Losers!

National League Winners:

Bryce Harper, Washington Nationals: Harper continues to be one of the best players in the game this season. Harper lands on the winners list for multiple reasons; including taking home the top vote getter award for the National League trailing only Josh Donaldson for the American League. The Nationals outfielder also lands on this list for his home run on Fourth of July using one of the best bats we have seen in a very long time.

Milwaukee Brewers: While the Brewers continue to sit at the bottom of the National League Central that could turn around with their recent play on the field. This includes winning nine of their last ten games including eight straight. The wins started with the team’s 5-3 win on Sunday over the Minnesota Twins to take the three game series. The success continued to start the week with a three game sweep over the Philadelphia Phillies before sweeping the Cincinnati Reds on the road.

Adam Lind, Milwaukee Brewers: We see it all the time around the game with teams that have been red hot as multiple players get hot at the right time. That has been the case of late with Brewers first baseman Adam Lind. Lind is nine for his last 25 with one double, three home runs and 12 runs batted in. On the season, Lind is hitting .298 with 14 home runs and 51 runs batted in.

Zach Greinke, Los Angeles Dodgers: Greinke continues to be one of the hottest starters in the National League while leading the Dodgers. His latest start came on Fourth of July against the New York Mets at home. The Dodgers starter went seven innings allowing just four hits and zero runs. This marks his fourth straight start not allowing a run and moved his consecutive winning streak over that stretch to 27.2 innings.

National League Losers:

Philadelphia Phillies: While the Phillies should be congratulated on the move to hire Andy MacPhail earlier in the week the team should also be blown up on paper. The Phillies have played to just two wins over their past 10 games while posting only a 28-56 record over the first part of the season. The team’s latest struggles came as they were handed four straight losses to the Brewers before losing two of three over the weekend to the Braves. For all you Phillies fans think positive as MacPhail has shown over the past he can turn a club around.

Mark Reynolds, St. Louis Cardinals: Despite all the success the Cardinals have had this season they have not gotten any out of Reynolds of late. This includes going just 2 for his last 17 with a .118 average over his last 10 games. Reynolds is hitting just .227 on the season with five home runs while striking out 73 times in 207 at bats.

San Francisco Giants: The Giants are still holding the second place spot in the National League West after losing six straight games. That includes all six contests the team played this past week starting with losing three straight games to the Miami Marlins. The losing continued as they made the trip up North from Miami to Washington losing all three games to the Nationals. In the three game series the Giants managed to score just five runs in the three game series.

Michael Cuddyer, New York Mets: Cuddyer’s struggles continue to show up this includes going hitless over his last 10 at bats. His struggles have also have taking him out of the lineup of late and makes us wonder should any player that formerly plays at Coors Field be awarded for their production prior to signing with a new club? Cuddyer is hitting just .236 on the year with six home runs and 28 runs batted in.

Calling Out Black Culture Appropriation: For the Record

kylie jenner calling out black culture for record 2015 imagesThis week’s For the Record, I am talking about something that has gotten more and more attention thanks to uber popular celebrities feeling the need to express themselves because, ya know, they are rich and famous and can do whatever the hell they want.

Last weekend, Hunger Games Star Amandla Stenberg “checked” Kylie Jenner for posting a picture of herself wearing corn rolls making the conversation about black appropriation more mainstream than usual.

In the picture, Jenner wore a crop top and some sweats with her hair corn rolled and the caption, “I woke up like this.” Amandla felt a certain way about the picture and with the hashtag “whitegirlsdoitbetter already trending she commented,

“When u appropriate black features and culture but fail to use ur position of power to help black Americans by directing attention towards ur wigs instead of police brutality or racism #whitegirlsdoitbetter.”

Now their feud isn’t’ really the issue here because honestly, it was far from a feud. The issue here that I want to address is a notion and a mindset that many black women have about white women trying to “steal” black culture. We do the same thing.

Now, before you go in, listen and read to the end. I think that 17 year old Amandla Stenberg being as aware as she is about her culture is a refreshing thing being that most girls her age can only talk about clothes, music and the latest female bashing lyrics by popular rappers. But I think that the argument is incomplete because white women are not the only ones guilty of incorporating black cultural norms into their lives. It is just that black women are the ones who feel the need to express their consternation about it.

Here is the truth, the same way that white women or any other non woman of color for that matter, rock corn rolls, tan their skin and get plastic surgery in order to enhance their appearance by looking fuller, black women do the same thing. Case in point is weave. We wear extension down to our asses, in blonde, red and brown in order to project a more European look. Bone straight flowing hair is not characteristic of black ancestry but yet we will spend thousands on that yaky Brazilian hair. Still not convinced? Look at T.I’s wife. This chick PERMANENTLY changed her eye color to blue. And not dark ocean blue, light sky blue. She is also rocking blonde (at times platinum blonde) hair and why? To achieve a look that is more traditional and naturally seen on white women.

It then becomes an issue of cultural appropriation. Not just black or white but cultural. And this is what I want people to understand and acknowledge because black people are good at pointing out what other people are doing but won’t recognize that they are doing the same in many cases. If we are going to call out white people for taking certain cultural things, then we have to stop taking theirs. If not, then there is real issue in our argument.

Once more we degrade our culture by appearing on TV fighting each other and acting ratched as hell AND we get butt injects and shit to get the same damn features that white women are trying to get. Does that then mean we are appropriating an image of ourselves?

And before you start calling me an Uncle Tom, a coon or any of that other shit, understand that I am very much in love with my people. I believe we are beautiful (which is a big reason why our culture is copied) we are smart and we are capable. But I do believe that the attention that people in our community try to bring to these kinds of situations, and by situations I mean Kylie and Amandla’s interaction and not necessarily what she said to the youngest Jenner, is not for the betterment of our people. I truly believe that it is not to move us forward but is self serving. It’s to get followers, it’s to get recognition, it’s to get put on.

Furthermore, the fact that black Twitter and other black influencers called for Andy Cohen from Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live to apologize is exactly what I am talking about. He didn’t call Amandla Stenberg a jackhole, he called their feud a jackhole and people trying to say, “I know what he said but what he really meant was” are reaching.

Black people in America have been the butt of heinous crimes, horrible laws and down right hideous circumstances and I never take away from that. I do, however, believe that as we stand up for ourselves about certain things, we have to remember we do shit too.

I’m just saying.

Amy Schumer’s TRAINWRECK Far From That: Review

Trainwreck, written and starring arguably the comedian of the year Amy Schumer, definitely defied the usual roles seen in the majority of Comedies.

In the movie, Amy stars as a woman who drinks, sleeps around and behaves however she sees fit. A role that we usually see males portray (Superbad, Knocked Up, etc.) is, for the most part, hilariously portrayed by Schumer.

The first scene of the film shows Amy’s father (Colin Quinn) getting Amy and her sister (Brie Larson) to repeat “monogamy is not realistic,” after explaining why he was getting a divorce from their mother. This mantra sticks with Amy as she grows up to enjoy sleeping around, but steers far away from any sort of commitment with any of her flings (this includes never spending the whole night with them). Amy does, however, somewhat break these rules when it comes to Steven (John Cena), not quite her boyfriend, but they do go on regular movie dates.

With Steven, we get some of the funniest moments of the film. John Cena, a professional wrestler, embodies a complete gym nut and overly sensitive guy who just wants Amy to be his “Crossfit Queen.” One of the funniest lines of the movie is given to Cena, when he tells Amy that he wants to have “3 boys [with her]…and 2…more boys. A whole soccer team of boys!”

SpoilerEventually, he ends things with Amy when he finds out she is sleeping around and therefore has to put a kibosh on his Crossfit dreams with her.

In the film, Amy plays a magazine writer, who works at an over-the-top magazine that writes such articles as “You’re Not Gay, She’s just that Boring.” In her work setting are also some of the best scenes of the movie. Actor Randall Park, who played Kim Jong-Un in The Interview, was notably a great choice for the film and delivered several laugh-out-loud lines as one of Amy’s co-workers.

Amy is given the task of writing an article on sports doctor, Aaron Connors (Bill Hader), which is where Amy starts to realize commitment might not be such a bad thing.

The scenes revolving around Amy and Aaron (Hader) were surprisingly more focused on developing a romantic plotline. Although there were no doubt funny moments, it seems the scenes that featured the two had to progress the storyline, while the secondary character interactions were more the basis of comedy for the film.

A clever addition to the movie was another sports star, NBA player Lebron James, as both Dr. Aaron Connors’ patient and penny-pitching best friend. The on-going joke with James is that he is strict with his finances. This is showcased when he and Aaron (Hader) are having lunch and James is adamant that they split the check. However, when Aaron finally agrees, James realizes he “forgot his wallet in the car.”

Another scene that stuck out from the movie, also featuring Lebron, was when he and Dr. Connors are playing one-on-one basketball, while talking about the doctor’s relationship with Amy.  Desperately trying to relate with his pal, James goes off talking on a reel about the consequences of having sex without protection – and by protection, he means a lawyer. He recounts the aftermath of having sex with a gold digger (which has obviously happened to many of Lebron’s team-mates). The lecture ends up being Lebron quoting lines word-for-word from Kanye West’s song, Gold Digger, which Dr. Connors eventually calls him out for.

Just as with Cena, Lebron James – although he is considered the greatest basketball player of his time – is noticeably not an actor. That made me wonder how he was going to contribute but I have to admit that he was in some of the best and most memorable parts of the movie. Both the sports stars are quite monotone in delivery, and low on expressing emotion as other actors do, however, this may have been intentional as many sports stars-turned-actors in the past have often gone over-the-top and the results are much worse.

Overall, I went into the movie with high expectations, partially because of the 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, partially due to the hilarity Amy Schumer has endowed upon the world over the past while and partially because Judd Apatow directed the film, so I was expecting something similar to Bridesmaid comedy.

Although I was no doubt laughing out loud at numerous points of the film, I did feel the film put a lot of emphasis in the romantic plot, especially after about half way through the film. While I know there has to be some sort of story carrying the comedic moments, I was surprised by how tamed Amy Schumer was at multiple points throughout the film.

In addition, there were multiple scenes in the film where Amy came out all dolled up, in probably the smallest skirts/dresses money can buy, that seemingly contradicted Amy’s comedic persona. On numerous occasions, I waited for an explanation within the dialogue on why Amy was looking so done up, but they never came. While I realize Amy can dress how she pleases and of course on a movie theatre screen she is going to want to look presentable, however, it just seemed off seeing Amy all spray-tanned, made-up and in tight mini skirts throughout the film, considering her usual comedy embodies what women are like “off-camera” for the most part.

In my opinion, I think Trainwreck deserves about 75%. It was nice to see a female lead play such an out-spoken, fun role, where she truly owns who she really is. However, it didn’t quite hit the Bridesmaids mark, maybe due to the dynamics of the cast (mainly women (Bridesmaids) vs. a balanced cast (Trainwreck)).

Definitely a film I would recommend to comedy fans, but maybe just wait till it’s out of theatres or go on cheap night.

BIG BROTHER 1711: Austin Goes Dark & Jeff Goes Home

big brother 1711 jeff evicted images 2015Austin brought out his dark Judas side on Big Brother, and Jeff said it was obvious Vanessa was trying to get rid of him. Jason said he was annoyed that Audrey keeps getting spared from eviction. James said even though he wanted Audrey up for elimination with him he was happy that Jeff was up for elimination instead because that makes Jeff a target rather than James. Jackie said Jeff is the only person in the house she trusts and the only one she considers a friend.

Austin said after everything that has happened this week Jeff still thinks Austin has his back, but he doesn’t. Clay said he thought James was more trustworthy than Jeff. Meg said she wanted James out because he is likeable and is getting more and more popular in the house. Clay told Jeff he is getting too caught up in the game. He also said Jeff breached his trust but he would give Jeff another chance.
austin goes dark hugs liz hard versus jeff goes home 2015 big brotherShelli told Jeff she didn’t want to send him home and then she gave him a hug. Jeff told Jackie that Shelli is emotional and he was going to play into that. Austin said though he is friends with Liz and Julia he has a stronger connection with Liz. Jeff wanted to know what he could do to get a cuddle date with Liz so he wanted to talk to her privately. He said her vote might be the swing vote he needs. Liz said she feels she can control Austin by flirting with him. Austin said he was pissed Liz let Jeff get in bed with her. Liz told Austin that Jeff asked if she was a twin and she denied it. She then said she thought Austin was trying to manipulate her.

james and jeff nominated big brother 1711 2015 imagesThe live vote then began. James said he loves the other house guests and each one of them has taught him something. Jeff said he didn’t see him being up for eviction coming but that the vote was about blindsiding him. He also told the house guests to place their votes based on who would help them succeed in the game.

Jackie voted to evict James while Austin voted to evict Jeff. John voted to evict James while Meg voted Jeff for eviction. Clay and Shelli voted to evict Jeff. Steve and Liz voted to evict James. Jason, Audrey and Becky voted to evict Jeff. This meant Jeff was the house guest evicted for this week. Jeff wished Jackie good luck in the game before he left the Big Brother house. Meg and James comforted Jackie.

Julie Chen asked Jeff if he expected Jackie to win the game and he said yes. Jeff said floating through the game might work for Jackie right now. Jeff said he had no problem flirting with Liz in front of Austin even though Austin is attracted to Liz too. Liz and Julia then confessed their twin switch to Jeff.

liz shelli new hoh on big brother 1711 recap 2015This week’s head of household competition involved watching 1990s dances. The house guests had to answer true or false questions about the videos to determine who is the next head of household. James, Jason, Steve and Clay were eliminated after the first question. Meg and Austin were eliminated after the second one. Liz and Shelli then became the new heads of household. Liz said she was beyond excited to become one head of household. The studio audience then got to ask the house guests questions.

After Jeff became many Big Brother Superfans most hated houseguest, he got a chance to explain what happened in the house to Julie Chen.

What happened?

That caught me off guard, I think I was playing one of the best games in the house. Not to sound too cocky about it, but I really do. So it’s just a complete blindside. I think I started to make a big target for myself because people started to notice that my game was on point and I was calling a lot of things. A lot of things I was calling out were true and it scared a lot of people.

Out of the past two evicted houseguests, Jace and Da’Vonne, do you think either of them staying in the game would have helped yours?

Absolutely. Not Jace, but Day for sure would have been on my side and she would have helped basically campaign against certain people. Day had a decent connection with Vanessa and would have been able to steer her in the right direction and to continue with the game plan to get Audrey out. That’s basically my downfall, Vanessa didn’t have the guts to pull the trigger.

Why do you think you and Jackie were cast, as opposed to other Amazing Race duos?

The main reason was Jackie and I on The Amazing Race obviously displayed somewhat of a showmance. One of the things we stated after the show was we weren’t going to be able to maintain any type of relationship because of the geographical difference in where we live. I think they thought, “Let’s put them in a house, make them live together for a few months and see what develops out of it.”

So you were cast on Big Brother to rebuild your relationship with Jackie?

Yeah, and I think that’s what America wanted. They really liked and enjoyed watching Jackie and I form a relationship. It was definitely in the best interest for CBS to do, but also America wanted to see something like that.

Best interest for CBS in terms of ratings?

Yeah, absolutely.

What is the difference between racing Amazing Race and playing Big Brother? Production, cast, fans?

The shows are nowhere near being any similar. The game play is completely different. Amazing Race is much more physical and Big Brother is a much more complex game and much more difficult to win. I do think I exhibit a lot of the qualities it takes to win Big Brother, but it’s hard for me to toot my horn on that because I’m obviously sitting here talking to you.

What is your response to superfans of Big Brother who aren’t a fan of yours? Will you respond to hate on social media?

There’s always going to be haters in this world. I guess I haven’t really looked into all the negative comments I’ve had from fans, but I’m sure that it’s a lot more out there than Amazing Race just because there are a lot more superfans. I have one of those personalities, I don’t have any in between people, I have people who either love me or hate me. If they attack me on social media, it’s going to be no skin off my back. It just goes to show their character. If they have that much time in their day to go on my social media and try to cause mayhem they need to find a significant other to spend time with or maybe get a job.

What is your response to Big Brother veterans who aren’t a fan of yours? Rachel mentioned on Twitter that casting you and Jackie was boring. Former winner Evel Dick has been vocal on Twitter about not being a fan of yours.

Obviously Evel Dick, him and I have no similarities as far as who we are as people, how we want to play the game. He would be more of a fan of somebody like Austin, so I couldn’t see him being a fan of mine to begin with. If I wanted to play a game of just manipulation and bullying, then he would be a huge fan. He might be a fan of Audrey, for that matter. As far as Rachel saying it was boring, you know so be it, but watching the same person do multiple seasons is kind of boring.

Ariana Grande Plays On & Bachelorette’s Britt Nilsson Brady Toops’ Play Romance

ariana grande donut plays tampa hard 2015 gossipAriana Grande finally returned to the stage after the whole “Donut-gate” incident. The 22-year-old found herself in hot water when surveillance footage showed the pop-star licking doughnuts on display while waiting online at a California pastry store. She dug herself an even deeper hole when she was also seen saying, “I hate Americans. I hate America.”

Ariana did a big 180, as she choose to open up her Thursday concert in Tampa by saying:

“I’m so grateful to be here in Tampa! And I’m so, so grateful to be here performing in the USA, the greatest country in the world!”

According to The Tampa Tribute, a local newspaper, many fans could be seen carrying signs showcasing doughnuts, with one sign reading “I can be your doughnut.”

No doubt, Ariana continues to be on major damage control following her criticized behavior. Unfortunately, even with two apologies, and a whole lot of patriotic praising, I don’t think Ariana will be able to shove this scandal under the rug anytime soon.

Ariana Grande, Twitter post:

bachelorette britt nilsson brady toops dating not so big 2015 gossipUnfortunately, it looks like The Bachelorette’s runner-up Britt Nilsson’s relationship with Brady Toops was made to look like it was a lot more than it really was.

Reports are saying that the couple only dated a few weeks before calling it quits. However, they continued to play up the romance as it was being showcased on The Bachelorette.

The two have been posting numerous Instagrams of each other, pushing the whole romance, but it turns out much of these were staged. The two were apparently very much already just friends when a majority of them were posted and when viewers were watching their “budding romance” on the ABC show.

Sources reveal that Britt was the one to break it off with Brady. She felt he was perfect “on paper,” but after visiting him in Nashville, she no longer felt the spark.

On the other hand, Brady was hurt by Britt’s decision to end things. Brady tells People magazine that in the last couple of months he has “written some of the saddest break up songs ever.” Adding that, “watching [their] story unfold on the show, remembering the beautiful parts of it, [didn’t] let that wound close.”

Brady took to Instagram to break the official news of their split. Brady posted a picture of him and Britt, along with a lengthy caption reading:

“I’m sad to say that @brittkarolina (Britt Nilsson’s Instagram) and I are no longer together. We have been so grateful for everyone’s love & support as this journey has unfolded. Thank you for rooting us on & thank you for your kindness. It has been felt on every side. We both immensely enjoyed getting to know each other, and I’m grateful for the beautiful moments we got to share. It was obviously such a unique and unusual experience starting in front of the Bachelor mansion and eventually airing in front of millions of people, but I honestly want to say that everything I did, said & felt for Britt on the show was genuine and real. In getting to know her away from all the cameras, lights, & microphones, I truly got to see how special she really is. From the first moment she stepped out of the limo on Chris Soules’ season, I was in. Britt was the whole reason I decided to do the show in the first place, and even though it didn’t work out in the end, I have no regrets. Honestly, I would have done it all over again.
Britt is one of the loveliest, kindest, and most caring persons I have ever met, and she added so much to my life. In a world that can often times move too fast, Britt helped me see the beauty in every moment.. the smell of the flowers, the sight of the sunset, & the simple pleasures of life. I’m grateful to have shared this journey with her. We will always be friends. Thank you to Chris Harrison, ABC & all “The Bachelorette” producers & crew for your love & support.”

Well it is unfortunate for Britt and Brady, but definitely not the first time a Bachelor or Bachelorette relationship didn’t work out.

Future Not Nice To Russell Wilson & Birdman Sues Jay Z Plots Lil Wayne’s Death

Oh Friday. For so many reasons I love you more than you know. Not only do you afford us hard working folks a break from the mundane, you give us a little entertainment in the form of celebrity craziness to go along with it. Thank you…. Now here are some highlights. After a long decision making process, TLC finally cancels 19 Kids and Counting and Birdaman with his Young Thug plotted to kill Lil Wayne while then suing Jay Z‘s Tidal. Ciara’s Future isn’t happy with Russell Wilson and silently hints around that ‘gay’ rumor regarding Russell Wilson.

tlc cancels josh duggar 19 kids and counting show 2015 gossipTLC Cancels Duggars 19 Kids and Counting Show… Finally

The day has come that TLC has finally got some sense. The network announced that they have pulled the plug on the Duggar’s show 19 Kids and Counting.

In a statement, TLC said that the Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar led show “will no longer appear on the air.” The decision of course, stems from the revelation that Josh Duggar molested five children, four of which were his sisters, during his late teen years. There is no doubt the attention from the scandal and how the parents dealt with it has brought a lot of negative attention to the network and has called their own code of ethics and the way the operate into question. But they want to let people know they in no way support the Duggars.

In fact they are actually partnering with advocacy groups on a “multi-platform campaign to raise awareness and educate parents and families about the issue” that includes an hour long documentary featuring family members and other survivors of abuse.

It is clear that they are in crisis management mode and are doing everything they can to maintain a positive view of the network in the eye of the public.

russell wilson pushing future ciara baby 2015 gossipFuture’s Jealousy Evident in Most Recent Jab at Ciara & Russell Wilson

What is wrong with this dude? Why can’t he just let his baby momma go on with her life and live it as she pleases? Rapper Future has already said something about his sex life with Ciara and now he has something to say about her new beau Russell Wilson pushing his son in a stroller?

“Of course I don’t want nobody pushing my son, that’s the number one rule… “If I was a kid and my mama had somebody push me [in the stroller], I would’ve jumped out and slapped the shit outta him. You don’t do that in our community. You don’t even bring a man around your son. You only know this dude for a few months and you’re bringing him around your kid? Who does that? Nobody does that.”

First of all Future needs to stop! What fucking community is he talking about? This kind of shit happens all the time in  “our community” as baby momma’s who are way more irresponsible than Ciara (not saying that she is) have all kinds of men around their children. He is just trying to find what he can to criticize. But why? He didn’t want Ciara obviously and now that she has definitely upgraded him, he wants to start calling out shit.

I wonder if he gives all his other three , common folk, baby momma’s this hard a time about the men they have around his three other children. Get the fuck outta here with that shit man.

Future is silently hinting around that old rumor of Russell Wilson being gay by calling his relationship with Ciara just a publicity stunt along with him pushing his son around in a stroller.

“At the end of the day, I’m not for the publicity stunt,” Future said. “Leave my son out of all the publicity s–t. Just leave him out of your relationship, because we don’t need your relationship for anything.”

birdman young thug kill lil wayne plot 2015Birdman and Young Thug Plotted to Kill Lil Wayne?

For some people when things go bad in their relationships, it becomes a matter of life and death, which seems to be the case for Lil Wayne.

The newest reports about his feud with Cash Money’s Birdman say that the CEO plotted with Young Thug to have Wayne killed. Apparently, the deed was supposed to happen this past April when Lil Wayne’s tour bus was shot up in Georgia by Jimmy Carlton Winfrey, who has since been indicted on thirty counts included aggravated assault.

The indictment pretty much says that he called Young Thug and Birdman before and after the shooting happened which causes authorities to believe that they may have put the hit out on the New Orleans rapper.

birdman suing jay z tidal over lil wayne 2015 gossipBirdman Sues Jay Z and Tidal

Speaking of putting hits out, reports are coming in that Birdman is suing Jay Z and Tidal for exclusively streaming Lil Wayne’s FWA (Free Weezy Album).

The Cash Money CEO wants $50 million because Tidal committed a “desperate and illegal attempt to save their struggling streaming service” when Lil Wayne signed an agreement with them to stream his album. According to them, he doesn’t have the authority to give permission to anyone per his contract with Cash Money.

However, of course because Jay Z is Jay Z (he has his shit covered), Tidal is claiming that Wayne has a non-exclusive contract with Cash Money, which makes their deal perfectly legit

Wayne signed a deal back in April with Jay , which allowed him to have an ownership stake in Tidal in exchange for the streaming of FWA. The announcement was met with a bit of confusion as people took his saying, “I just signed with my Idol” as he signed a record contract.

Either way, this move seems desperate on only one part and that is Cash Money’s.

Dallas Cowboys & Dez Bryant Agree to New Deal before Franchise Tag Deadline

dallas cowboys sign dez bryant to new deal 2015 nfl imagesDallas Cowboys and superstar wide receiver Dez Bryant agreed to terms on a mega five-year deal worth $70 million with $45 million guaranteed. The two sides finally saw eye-to-eye less than an hour before the 4 p.m. ET deadline Wednesday.

This isn’t basketball, but the Cowboys really beat the buzzer on this one. Failing to pay Bryant would be no fun for either side and even worse for Cowboys’ fans, as the Pro Bowler swore he would holdout through Week 1 of the regular season if the team didn’t sign him before the deadline.

Well, they got it done. All it took was weeks of discussion and collusion with the Denver Broncos who were in the same boat with Demaryius Thomas. Of course, both sides vehemently denied any behind-the-scenes communication and they continue to deny it. Needless to say, it makes it hard to believe them when both Dez and Demaryius signed five-year, $70 million contracts on the same day.

“I smiled the whole way over here,” said Bryant right after becoming the second-highest paid receiver in the NFL. “I couldn’t believe it. All I could think about it is it’s a dream. It’s like a dream come true. The only thing it’s missing is a Super Bowl.”

Dez seems to think his Cowboys are Super Bowl ready, but I’m pretty sure he’s been saying that since they drafted him. No offense to Tony Romo, but he isn’t exactly “elite” or “capable of winning consistently in the postseason.” Okay, may a little offense was intended.

Never short of words, Bryant went on to describe the difficulty between balancing the business aspect of the game with his love for the Cowboys and his teammates:

“First time being in this kind of situation. It’s extremely hard. It’s the whole reason I came out to OTAs. I knew I was going to hear it from my agent. I didn’t care. I love my teammates. I love the environment. I believe in building a relationship with the guys in order to be successful. Now that we got the deal done, I can only imagine what’s fixing to go down this season.”

Yes, this is the same Dez Bryant that was willing to miss games if he didn’t get his deal.

At least the drama is over. Now Dez can go back to dropping balls in the 4th quarter of playoff games… Okay, fine. He totally caught it. I just love messing with you, Cowboy fans.

TLC Cancels Duggar Family’s 19 KIDS AND COUNTING

0

tlc cancels duggar 19 kids counting show 2015 imagesTLC has officially cancelled 19 Kids and Counting, releasing a statement saying:

“After thoughtful consideration, TLC and the Duggar family have decided to not move forward with 19 Kids and Counting. The show will no longer appear on the air. The recent attention around the Duggars has sparked a critical and important conversation about child protection.”

The show had been suspended for roughly two months following the Josh Duggar’s confession that he molested several underage girls 12 years ago, two of which were his younger sisters.

In their statement, TLC also revealed that it had been consulting with leading U.S. victims’ rights and advocacy groups on how to handle the situation (i.e. whether to continue the show or not).

They also revealed that they would be airing a one-hour documentary later in the summer that centered on child sexual abuse, which will include victims Jill and Jessa Duggar. “TLC has been especially concerned for the victims in this situation, including the Duggar family, and it is our hope that this effort will help those in need learn where to turn for information and help,” the statement added.

For the special, TLC will be partnering with RAINN, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, which also released a statement that read, “We are pleased to be partnering with TLC to fight child sexual abuse, and appreciate its efforts to spur a national dialogue about this issue. Child sexual abuse affects millions of families across the nation, and we all have a responsibility to work together to end it.”

Josh’s parents Jim Bob and Michelle also released a statement today about the cancellation, saying “Today, TLC announced that they will not be filming new episodes of 19 Kids and Counting. … With God’s grace and help, Josh, our daughters and our entire family overcame a terrible situation, found healing and a way forward. We are so pleased with the wonderful adults they have all become.”

The Duggar parents also spoke about what’s next for them after “19 Kids,” adding in the statement, “We look forward to working with TLC on this upcoming special documentary and hope that it is an encouragement to many.”

It seems that TLC was hesitant to remove the show permanently as it was one of their highest rated shows. This, however, evidently changed once big name advertisers backed away from airing during the TLC series. Companies such as CVS pharmacy, Ace Hardware, ConAgra Foods, Pure Leaf Iced Tea, Behr Paint, Party City, Walgreens, and Payless Shoes stopped paying for airtime during the show amidst Josh’s confession.

This situation is very much similar to the Bill Cosby situation; in which TVLand, Netflix and NBC were quick to cancel Cosby’s show after the allegations of his sexual misconduct came public. Although, many have speculated as to why TLC took so long to decide to cancel the show.

I think TLC had a lot to consider and while morally, it may have been best to right away cancel the show, financially and ratings wise, it was very likely a tough decision for the network.

First off, as I previously mentioned, 19 Kids and Counting is one of TLC’s highest rated shows. It has been on the air since 2008, with 15 seasons under its belt. In addition, numerous members of the Duggar family are going through more joyous occasions in their life, such as marriage and pregnancy. These events are often highly publicized and therefore bring in plenty of viewers to the network.

For the most part it seems that the majority of social media posts following the news of cancellation have been in favor of TLC’s final decision.

With such posts on Twitter as:

In my opinion, I believe TLC probably did the safest thing. Although, I wouldn’t see a problem with keeping the show on and simply not including Josh in the series here on out, I think there is a large portion of people that wouldn’t accept this compromise.

In no way do I want to downplay or make light of Josh Duggar’s actions, but I do believe the fact that it occurred over 12 years ago, while he was in his early teens, is sometimes overlooked. Also, Josh Duggar came forward and confessed his wrongdoings. This action itself must have been incredibly tough for him and his family. It is clear by doing so, he is willing to take responsibility for his actions and wants to express his guilt and feelings of shame.

I also think that the family, being as controversial as they are, also plays into the relentless backlash they have experienced. The family has, on numerous occasions, expressed extremely controversial views (such as their opposition to gay marriage). I think their polarizing opinions have fueled a negative response from much of the public that unfortunately was even more vocalized after details of Josh Duggars’ incident surfaced.

Therefore, no matter how many joyous occasions the rest of the Duggar family goes through if the show were to continue, I think the family has dug a hole for themselves. The public is unfortunately going to be focused on the negative events associated with the family. It is probably in the best interest for the family to go off air and take some time out of the spotlight, allowing the rest of the family to genuinely enjoy the positive things they are going through and not let them be overshadowed by the grey cloud that would follow the family if they were to stay on air.

So, although I think with an updated format (exclusion of josh Duggar) TLC could have potentially continued airing 19 Kids and Counting, it was most likely the best decision for both the network and the Duggar family to end the series.

Game of Thrones Shows Controversy Equals Emmy Awards

0

Rather than having to be up at the cruel hour of 5:30 a.m PT, this years 2015 Primetime Emmy Award nominations were announced a few hours later after all of us on the East Coast were more caffeinated.  Not surprisingly, HBO’s Game of Thrones swept the nominations with 24, including best drama series while FOX’s ratings juggernaut, Empire, only received three nominations including lead actress Taraji P. Henson.

Both Viola Davis and Taraji P. Henson made history as the first time there has been two black women earned nominations for lead actress in a drama series. They are both strong characters in their shows, How to Get Away with Murder and Empire that they both may lose out to split votes. The Emmy nominations are the polar opposite of the Oscar nominations which were lacking in diversity.

Many new shows were able to shine bright this year such as Transparent, Better Call Saul and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt while other stalwarts were left out of the pack including The Big Bang Theory, The Good Wife and Girls. Personally, The Big Bang Theory (aside from Howard’s mom dying episode) didn’t have such a strong season and Girls once again was a frustrating mishmash of good and tedious.

There were several voting changes this year, with the most most notable one being the default categorization of comedies as half-hours and dramas as hourlongs. The move, an acknowledgement of the surging volume of eligible nominees, also prompted the Academy to open up the main drama and comedy races to seven nominees. The new labeling ruffled a few feathers. Netflix was notably denied in its petition to put hourlong Orange Is the New Black in the comedy race, but that didn’t hurt the show. It made a strong move into the new category, joining House of Cards with a best series nomination.

The 67th annual Primetime Emmys will air live on September 20 on FOX and hosted by Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Andy Samberg.

Below is the full list of nominations along with a full scorecard breakdown:

Justin Bieber Strips Binds Up & Peter Berg Slams Caitlyn Jenner’s ESPY

caitlyn jenner espy awards stirring speach knocked by peter berg 2015 gossipCaitlyn Jenner took the stage at the 2015 ESPY award to accept the Arthur Ashe Courage award.

Supported by her six biological children (Kylie, Kendall, Brody, Brandon, Casey and Burt Jenner), her mother, and her three stepchildren (Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian), Jenner glowed as she accepted the award honoring her courage during her recent gender transition.

caitlyn jenner crying during espy awards speach 2015 gossipDuring her speech, the 65-year-old former Olympic champion talked about her own experience transitioning and the incredible support she has received from her family, friends and fans.  She went on to encourage everyone to be more accepting of one another. Lastly, she offered her support to other transgender people, especially those who aren’t able to receive the support she has.

Caitlyn later revealed in an interview that she knew Arthur Ash and recalls “[sitting] out in the audience on many occasions, and [thinking] to myself, ‘Boy, What if someday I could make a difference in the world and do what I’m doing? I wonder if I’ll ever get that?’ Tonight was the night.”

Caitlyn’s courage wasn’t the only thing that made waves at the 2015 ESPYs. Her beautiful, white floor-length Atelier Versace gown was also a winner of the night. The long gown featured long sleeves and a deep neckline, with ruching at the waist.

Many are comparing Caitlyn’s gown to the one Angelina Jolie wore at the New York premiere of her 2010 movie Tourist. This isn’t too much of a surprise considering Caitlyn got help from stylist Jen Rade, who also styles Angelina.

Caitlyn joked about her new exploration into the fashion world, saying:

“…I’m putting myself in high pressure situations – competing in the games, raising a family, but I’ve never felt more pressure than I have in my life that I have in the last couple of months. Picking out this outfit – OK girls, I get it. It was exhausting. And next, the Fashion Police. Please be kind on me, I’m new at this.”

So far Caitlyn’s fashion choices have impressed…which I think can partially be due to being surrounded by her fashion maven family. Her style has shown to be classic and elegant.

Don’t worry Caitlyn, I am sure the Fashion Police will be singing your praises!

peter berg slams espn caitlyn jenner 2015 espy awardsThen, of course, there are going to be the naysayers and filmmaker Peter Berg took to his Instagram to put a passive aggressive meme comparing Caitlyn Jenner winning the Arthur Ashe Courage Award to a soldier who lost both his legs. If Berg had done his research, he would have seen that ESPN gives out the Pat Tillman Award for soldiers who have done heroic deeds. Arthur Ashe was a legendary sports figure in the world of tennis who dedicated the rest of his life to raising awareness about AIDS, and the spirit of this award in his name has been more for sports figures dedicating their lives to help others.

“One man traded 2 legs for the freedom of the other to trade 2 balls for 2 boobs. Guess which man made the cover of Vanity Fair, was praised for his courage by President Obama and is to be honored with the ‘Arthur Ashe Courage Award’ by ESPN?” the text read. “Yup,” Berg captioned his post.

Gadson, who was in the U.S. Army for 15 years, lost both his legs to a roadside bomb while serving in Operation Iraq Freedom. He’s now a motivational speaker and actor, appearing in Berg’s film “Battleship.” He played in the Army’s football team from 1985 to 1989.

Berg wasn’t the only one chastising ESPN for choosing Caitlyn Jenner. NBC’s Bob Costas was also critical of the decision.

“It strikes me that awarding the Arthur Ashe Award to Caitlyn Jenner is just a crass exploitation play — it’s a tabloid play,” he said on “The Dan Patrick Show” radio program in June. “In the broad world of sports, I’m pretty sure they could’ve found someone — and this is not anything against Caitlyn Jenner — who was much closer actively involved in sports, who would’ve been deserving of what that award represents.”

justin bieber interview images spreadh shirtless 2015 gossipJustin Bieber’s new photo shoot for Interview magazine has been released.

Both on the cover and an inside spread, Bieber shows his darker side in the magazine.

Shirtless in most shots (surprise, surprise!), Bieber dons black leather pants, a black leather eye mask and bright red fingerless gloves.

justin bieber bondage gear 2015The shoot even features a photo of Bieber pulling his shirt down to reveal marks from a cupping therapy session. Cupping therapy being a form of acupuncture that uses suction to mobilize blood and energy flow around the body. Kind of a weird shot, but I guess it is attention grabbing.

Bieber is once again reunited with Martha Stewart, who roasted him on Comedy Central’s Roast of Justin Bieber. Martha interviews Bieber for the magazine.

justin bieber leather chaps 2015 imagesIn the interview, Bieber talks about his love for cars (he owns a Ferrari, a Maybach, and many more), a trip to Ibiza he has planned, how he loves his private jet and his favorite meal: grilled salmon and mash potatoes. Oh, and his drink of choice is 1942 tequila (which retails at $140/bottle).

He also talked about his new music, which is “very personal.” He says it will tell people “where [his] heart is.” He hopes he will be able to teach a lesson through it and ideally inspire others.

In addition, there has been recent speculation of him being in a relationship with Hailey Baldwin (although both Bieber and Baldwin have shut down this claim).

Justin tells Martha that his current love is his little brother, who is staying with him for a week.

“Not a girlfriend at the moment, no” responds Bieber.

One Direction Baby & Ben Higgins New Bachelor

one direction louis tomlinson baby coming 2015 gossipLooks like one of the members of One Direction is going in a new direction…becoming a dad!

It has now been confirmed that 23-year-old Louis Tomlinson is expecting a child with Los Angeles stylist Briana Jungwirth.

The two met through a mutual friend earlier this year, after Louis split from his longtime girlfriend Eleanor Calder.

Sources have revealed that Louis plans on being a “hands on” dad and will stay by Briana’s side throughout the pregnancy. Louis is excited about becoming a dad and believes Briana will be an amazing mother.

Although the pregnancy was a surprise at first, Louis is comforted by how close he is with Briana and believes the baby will only bring them closer.

Although Louis and Briana don’t identify as an official couple, the two have become very good friends and have spent a lot of time together over the past while.

At this point, Louis and the other members of One Direction have not spoken about the recent news. It is unclear how it will impact Louis’ involvement in the band, but hopefully wont lead to another exit (Zayn Malik left the band earlier in the year).

Looks like Louis’ 2012 April Fools tweet was actually just a premonition for the relatively near future!

Louis Tomlinson, Twitter post:

ben higgins next bachelor 2015 gossipRumors have already started regarding who will take the role of the new bachelor. These rumors amplified after contestant Ben Higgins was sent home by Kaitlyn on the current season of The Bachelorette.

E! News is now reporting that sources have confirmed to them that Ben Higgins will be offered the role.

Ben is a 26-year-old software salesman who lives in Denver, Colarado but grew up in Winona Lake, Indiana. He is a devoted Christian, and was relatively conservative during his run on The Bachelorette (recall: he revealed to Kaitlyn he would rather connect on another level, than be intimate during the fantasy suite date).

Ben has opened up about his experience on the show, saying:

“Doing this experience, you come in skeptical and you walk out of the experience, I did at least realizing it’s a very real thing. True emotions do evolve and it does give you the opportunity to meet somebody that you could potentially spend the rest of your life with.”

He also revealed that he ran into Trista Sutter, the first bachelorette, and her husband of almost 15 years, Ryan, who was the winner on her season. They now have 2 children together. Ben said seeing the couple gave him hope that the show’s process actually works.

Ben is going to have to step up his game if he wants to keep viewers interested; Although Chris Soules didn’t bring all too much substance to the table (other than a

giant farm in Iowa) and seemed to get by just fine.

bethenny frankel dating eric stonestreet 2015 gossipA new celebrity couple in Hollywood has been revealed!

Reports have come out saying that Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel and Modern Family’s Eric Stonestreet are a new couple.

The relationship has come as a shock to most, but the two have been seen together casually for a couple of months now. They were even photographed together while attending the 2015 CAA Upfronts Celebration Party in New York City during the spring.

Weeks later, Eric took to Instagram to post a photo while hanging out with Bethenny and her fellow Real Housewives of New York cast-mate Carole Radziwill.

Eric Stonestreet, Instagram Post:

Took a picture of these 2 randos today. @caroleradziwill @bethennyfrankel

The two were also seen attending a Los Angeles Dodgers game together last week.

Bethenny did tweet yesterday, seemingly in response to the rumors, posting:

“Wow #somanyboyfriendssolittletime How did I manage to be at a @Dodgers game & be in the Hamptons at the same time?!!! @ericstonestreet”

Bethenny Frankel, Twitter post:

Although she is joking around about the sudden surge of rumors surrounding her and Eric, she isn’t refuting the claims.

Definitely a couple to keep an eye on!
