Taylor Swift Sweeps VMA’s & Opens With Nicki Minaj: Winner’s List

0

taylor swift with nicki minaj at vma top awardsRemember when all these celebrities were trying to mediate the huge Twitter feud between Taylor Swift and Nicki Minja? Well, you wouldn’t even have remembered it happening with the opening of Sunday night’s VMA’s which featured Nicki Minaj with a surprise pop up from Taylor Swift. You can check out the full performance opening number just below.

It was truly a superb way to open the VMA’s as Minaj is always guaranteed an over the top performance, but near the end when Swift rises onto the stage, and sings her way to her now friend, you almost wonder if this was all just a great publicity stunt. The feud hit at the right time to lead up to the VMA’s. It actually doesn’t matter as it’s one of those performances that will be talked about until Taylor’s next Twitter feud/misunderstanding.

Minaj opened the show with a bang, performing “Trini Dem Girls” before introducing a special guest. Swift joined her during “The Night Is Still Young,” sending the audience (and Twitter) into a frenzy.

Swift then launched into her hit “Bad Blood,” and afterword, the two, who previously made headlines for a Twitter beef, hugged it out on stage.

RIP Wes Craven: Horror maestro dies of brain cancer at 76

0

wes craven horror master diesFor many fans, the news of Wes Craven’s death this afternoon wasn’t a surprise as had been battling brain cancer. He was 76, and recreated the horror genre more than once beginning with his shocking 1972 classic horror film “The Last House on the Left,” then shaking things up in the 80’s with his “Nightmare on Elm Street” franchise and then making fun of it in the 90’s with “Scream.”

Craven wrote and directed A Nightmare on Elm Street in 1984. His Scream franchise was reported to have grossed more than $100m in the US.

He wrote, directed and edited his first film, The Last House on the Left, in 1972.

A tweet from his Twitter account featured a picture of him with the dates 1939-2015.

Craven was credited with reinventing the teen horror genre when the first film featuring Freddy Krueger was released in 1984 starring a then-unknown Johnny Depp.

He had more recently signed deals to develop television programmes, including the new Scream series for MTV. He had also been working on a graphic horror novel series.

Reflecting on his career, he once said in an interview: “I tried to make movies where I can honestly say I haven’t seen that before and to follow my deepest intuitions and in some cases literally my dreams.”

Actors posted tributes on social media including actress Courtney Cox, who starred in Craven’s 1996 Scream and appeared in the franchise’s three subsequent films.

She said: “Today the world lost a great man, my friend and mentor, Wes Craven. My heart goes out to his family. x”

Rose McGowan, who also featured in the original Scream, said: “Thank you for being the kindest man, the gentlest man, and one of the smartest men I’ve known. Please say there’s a plot twist.”

Craven claimed to have gotten the idea for Elm Street from living next to a cemetery on a street of that name in the suburbs of Cleveland. The five Nightmare on Elm Street films were released from 1984-89 and drew big crowds.

Similarly, Craven’s Scream series was a box-office sensation. In those scare-’em-ups, he spoofed the teen horror genre and frequently referenced other horror movies.

Craven’s first feature film was The Last House on the Left, which he wrote, directed and edited in 1972. A rape-revenge movie, it appalled some viewers but generated big box office. Next came another film he wrote and helmed, The Hills Have Eyes (1977).

Craven re-invented the youth horror genre in 1984 with the classic A Nightmare on Elm Street, which he wrote and directed.
He conceived and co-wrote Elm Street III as well, and then after not being involved with other sequels, deconstructed the genre a decade after the original, writing and directing Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, which was nominated for best feature at the 1995 Spirit Awards.
His own Nightmare players, Robert Englund, Heather Langenkamp and John Saxon, played themselves in that film.
In 1996, Craven reached a new level of success with the release of Scream. The film grossed more than $100 million domestically, as did Scream 2 (1997).
Between Scream 2 and Scream 3, Craven, offered the opportunity to direct a non-genre film for Miramax, helmed Music of the Heart (1999), a film that earned Meryl Streep an Academy Award nomination for best actress in the inspirational drama about a teacher in Harlem.

“We had a very difficult time getting an audience into a theater on my name,” he said in an interview with writer-director Mick Garris in October. “In fact, we moved toward downplaying my name a lot on Music of the Heart. The more famous you are for making kinds of outrageous scary films, the crossover audience will say, ‘I don’t think so.’”

Also in 1999, in the midst of directing, he completed his first novel, The Fountain Society, published by Simon & Shuster.
Craven again pushed the genre boundaries with the 2005 psychological thriller Red Eye, starringRachel McAdams, Cillian Murphy and Brian Cox. And in 2006, he wrote and directed a romantic comedy homage to Oscar Wilde featuring Emily Mortimer and Rufus Sewell as a segment in the French ensemble production Paris Je T’aime.
Craven then produced remakes of The Hills Have Eyes (2006) and The Last House on the Left (2009).
His most recent written and directed film, My Soul to Take (2010), marked his first collaboration with Labunka, who also produced Scream 4.
Craven directed several other thrillers and horror movies during his career, including Swamp Thing(1982), Deadly Friend (1986) and The People Under the Stairs (1991).
Craven had recently signed an overall television deal with Universal Cable Productions and had a number of projects in development, including The People Under the Stairs with Syfy Networks,Disciples with UCP, We Are All Completely Fine with Syfy/UCP, and Sleepers with Federation Entertainment.
He also was executive producing the new Scream series for MTV. The season finale of the series will pay tribute to the writer/director, an MTV spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter.
Craven had recently written and was to direct the Thou Shalt Not Kill segment for The Weinstein Co.’s Ten Commandments miniseries for WGN America. And he is listed as an executive producer of The Girl in the Photographs, a horror thriller directed by his protege, Nick Simon, that will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival next month.
Wesley Earl Craven was born Aug. 2, 1939, in Cleveland. His father died when he was 5. Raised in a strict Baptist household, he graduated from Wheaton College with degrees in English and psychology, then earned a masters in philosophy and writing from Johns Hopkins.

Deep Sleepers (Probably) Available Late in the 2015 Fantasy Football Draft

deep sleepers fantasy football tyler eifert kendall wright 2015 nfl imagesFor those of you like myself who still haven’t scheduled a fantasy draft date, there are a few bright sides.

For one, none of us will be stuck with Kelvin Benjamin, Jordy Nelson, or any of the other players unfortunate enough to go down with injuries so far this preseason. On top of that, we have a little more time to watch preseason and keep an eye out for up-and-coming stars.

Well, for those of you who can’t stomach preseason football, don’t worry, I struggled through it for you. After two weeks of exhibition games, I think I’ve found a few deep sleepers who may just be worth a shot late in the draft:

Tyler Eifert, tight end: Obviously no one is going to touch Rob Gronkowski or Jimmy Graham, but everyone needs a tight end. Eifert’s season ended a little early last year, but he’s coming back now and the Cincinnati Bengals and Andy Dalton could definitely use the help to take some pressure off A.J. Green. Eifert has been doing well so far, and if he can translate that over to the regular season and get past the fact that Dalton is his quarterback, he could definitely slip in as a potential late-round TE1.

Kendall Wright, wide receiver: Wright broke out in 2013, but Ken Whisenhunt kind of limited him when he took over as coach of the Tennessee Titans. Wright just didn’t look comfortable in the new offensive style which didn’t let him do his own thing the way he likes. On top of that, the Titans offense was just absolutely horrible. Marcus Mariota is an immediate improvement over Zach Mettenberger, and if the defense can chip in a bit, Tennessee may actually be able to get something going on offense. If that’s the case, Wright could easily see anywhere from 100 to 120 targets in 2015.

That should be more than enough to make him worthy of a WR slot on your team. On top of that, you can probably pick him up a little later in most leagues. After the Titans basically fell off the face of the earth this past season, Wright’s name recognition fell significantly. In the average league, I’d say about half of the people draft completely based on who they hear about on SportsCenter, so Wright could easily turn into a fantastic value pickup.

Miley Cyrus Dresses Down For Morning Instagram & Andi Dorfman Pokes At Josh Murray

At this point, no amount of nudity is really surprising when it comes to Miley Cyrus.

The 22-year-old super star took to Instagram on Sunday morning to share a picture of her completely nude, as she prepared for her hosting gig at the 2015 MTV VMAs. The singer did however use stars to censor the risqué image.

Along with the picture, Miley wrote the caption saying, “When yiew da host so you gotta get to the vmas early AF!!!!!”

Miley Cyrus, Instagram post:

The day before, Miley took to her social media to share a picture of her meeting 87-year-old Instagram star Helen Van Winkle, known as Baddie Winkle. Although Miley was not nude, she was wearing a skintight jumpsuit that featured a fruit and vegetable print.

Miley Cyrus, Instagram post:

According to reports, MTV is placing the award show and host Miley Cyrus on tape delay, just in case anything unexpected happens during the show. Therefore, MTV will be delaying the live broadcast by a few seconds to ensure they have time to cut away from anything that isn’t suitable for TV.

Executives at MTV have been busy warning audiences to be aware of the host and prepare for potentially one of the most controversial VMAs of all time.

Despite, Miley’s controversial persona, she has no doubt created ample hype around this years MTV VMAs.

andi dorman makes fun of josh murray engagement 2015 bachelorette

Former Bachelorette Andi Dorfman recently poked fun at her failed engagement with Bachelorette contestant Josh Murray.

In January, Andi and Josh announced their split, releasing a joint statement saying:

“After several months of being engaged and working on our relationship, we have decided that it’s best for both of us to go our separate ways. We are very sad that it has come to this point, but this is what’s best for both of us individually.”

Since the split, sources have reported that both Andi and Josh were having trouble moving on from the relationship, however on Saturday Andi took to Instagram and playfully referred to her past relationship with Josh.

Andi posted a picture with her alongside Tennis star Andy Murray at the U.S. Open’s Party with the Pros event. She jokingly captioned the picture, “The World is only big enough for one #AndyMurray…”

Here, she refers to the fact that she would be named Andi Murray if she went through with her engagement to Josh.

Since the split, both Andi and Josh have been relatively private about what happened, so many are surprised that Andi alluded to their relationship on her social media. Although, it does seem like a good sign that she is making progress in moving on from her failed Bachelorette relationship.

Rafael Nadal Retirement Plans

0

rafael nadal retirment plan 2015Rafael Nadal’s 2015 season has been precedent setting in a lot of ways, though not in any good ways. It is hard to tell which is more striking: the fact that Rafa did not win the French Open for the first time since 2009 or the fact that his ranking dipped down to the World No. 10 position earlier this season. However, for the time being and despite the below par form, Nadal appears to have no retirement plans.

“I have motivation to keep going so it’s difficult to think about not playing,” the player, that many consider to be the greatest of all-time (ie. the GOAT), claimed.

However, in regard to the GOAT status, the 29-year old, in my opinion, definitely has some work ahead of him if he is to be considered the greatest ever at the end of his career. In fact it is very strange that many consider Nadal to be the best tennis has EVER seen when it’s very debatable that he should be considered the greatest even among his contemporaries. Roger Federer’s cold-hard stats are more impressive than Nadal’s in terms of Grand Slam singles titles won and weeks spent at the World No. 1 position.

In regard to the former, to date Federer has seventeen titles while in regard to the latter Federer has 302 cumulative weeks. Compared to Nadal, Federer has 21% more titles in majors and 214% more weeks looking down at everyone, including Nadal, in the ATP‘s ranking system.

Those that suggest that Nadal is the greatest often argue his head-to-head record against Federer, one that is 23-10. However let’s not forget that Nadal is a lot younger than Fed and the Spaniard’s head-to-head stats may be padded due to that. But even that consideration aside, the GOAT debate should center around how a player does against the entire field of competitors over the course of his career – not individual heads-up series match-ups.

Yet the debate about the GOAT, insofar as it centers around Nadal and Federer, does make it seem as though the two players are extinct instead of extant. Their career totals are still subject to change and I don’t think either one is close to retirement yet. That said, it’s entirely possible that they could end up head-to-head in another big tournament final before either player does call it quits.

With regard to Federer, I think he will probably still be seeded at the 2018 US Open. He is resilient against injury and, even though his body will fail more and more in long matches, his mind will not. Tennis is as much of a chess match as it is an athletic competition and brains last longer than braun.

But in regard to Nadal, it’s hard to say when the “motivation to keep going” will leave him. He has had an injury-plagued career and you would think that his maladies would only increase in frequency as he ages. As a hypothetical example, if Rafa ran into a knee problem in the near future, as he has in the past, would he try to come back from it after missing a few months? Or would such a problem force him to consider retirement?

Time will tell but I think Nadal will be with us for the 2016 season. In fact he’s such a talented player that I think that he even has some more surprises left in him.

These former World No. 1s remain dangerous right up until the day they retire because of their mental mastery of the game. Many would be surprised to see Rafa win another major however I personally wouldn’t: he’s the type of player that emerges as a champion again, right when everyone in the world in writing him off. A healthy Nadal that is in-form promises to be a title threat in any tournament he enters for the next few year’s still.

Atlanta Falcons In-Depth Week 3 Preseason Recap: vs Miami Dolphins

0

atlanta falcons indepth recap week 3 vs miami dolphins reccap 2015 images nflFalcons v. Dolphins

Game Summary: All you need to know about this game is that Matt Ryan got roughed up on three sacks. The Dolphins have a very good defensive front. We all know that. They got 70% better the moment Ndamukong Suh signed on the dotted line.

The Phins got another fine game from Ryan Tannehill who threw for 145 yards while playing less than two full quarters. He connected to Jarvis Landry for a big 46 yarder that helped his team to a 13-9 win.

The Falcons are lucky to have a solid kicker like Matt Bryant on the roster. He was the lone scorer for his crew in this game. That won’t be enough once the real season commences. As a fellow bald man, I love Bryant, but I don’t want him dominating the scoring for the Birds each week.

Matt Ryan finished the game 3 of 7 for just 49 yards. There was no help from the run game which was basically nonexistent.

The Falcon’s o-line blocked no better for T.J. Yates. He was batted around also. Third downs were hard to watch.

The Birds defense handled Miami’s run game better from the second quarter on. O’Brien Schofield laid a nasty hit on Miami backup Matt Moore. Hope to see more of the same with Quinn’s scheme this year.

In the third quarter Atlanta had a chance for another touchdown but were completely stuffed on third and goal. They tried for it again on fourth down. The result was even worse, with Miami sacking Yates yet again.

Game Highlights:

Julio Loves Arthur Blank:)

3 Things to Build On:

  • Devin Hester played well on offense catching two balls for 21 yards. He was a pleasant surprise on offense last year. He may be even more comfortable in that role in 2015.
  • Leonard Hankerson made a big impact in this third preseason game. He ended his night with three catches for 50 yards, his longest for 28. This guy came over to Atlanta after four season in Washington.
  • Adrian Clayborn had another impressive outing. He had a sack once again and has been a real boost to Atlanta’s pass rush each exhibition game so far. If he stays healthy, I’m looking for eight to nine sacks from him in 2015.

Lowlight of Game: Matt Ryan can’t be sacked three times in any game, much less a preseason event. This game had to give other Atlanta fans flashbacks to the gruesome Carolina game at the end of last year. The QB has to be protected especially when facing teams with nasty old school players like Ndamukong Suh. He tries to hurt passers even after the whistle (Rodgers stomp), so he sure doesn’t need to be anywhere near Ryan while the play is still happening.

Bonehead Play of The Game: Miami’s punter managed to mishandle a snap and got ran down by Vic Beasley. One job and this guy screwed it up. I don’t care that it was raining. Handle the snap fella.

Julio Watch: The kid from Alabama just changed his family tree for the long haul. He was already rolling in style, but getting $47 million guaranteed over the next five years should ensure his kids’ kids start life off with lots of privilege.

The contract is $71.25 million overall and puts him at the top spot for receiver guaranteed cash in the NFL. A.J. Green may move past that number ultimately though.

Arthur Blank seemed pleased to scratch a check to the guy they gave up so much to be able to draft in the first place. “We could not be more thrilled to make Julio a Falcon for life,” said Falcons owner Arthur Blank in a statement. “Julio has established himself as one of the top wide receivers in the NFL during his career and has already set the franchise record for receiving yards in a season. I am extremely proud of what he has accomplished and he has just begun to scratch the surface in terms of his potential.”

The Moral of the Ashley-Madison Story

0

moral of ashley madison tech hack 2015 images9.7 Gigabytes of information from 37 million or so cheaters are out there right now. Data of people who cheat on their spouses or partners at least once or at least tried to, thanks to the hacking group known as the Impact Team. That data was taken from the online cheating website Ashley Madison. Yes, the one that says “Because Life Is Short, Try Cheating”. That website was hacked by the Impact Team in the noble attempt to shut it down and stop the spread of adultery.

With that much data, TV networks could probably run year-long reality or talk shows discussing famous celebrities who may be on that list. Celebrity Cheats. Philandering Personalities. Partners are probably playing “Where’s Waldo” trying to look for their partners after downloading the data, at least the computer-savvy ones. Woe is he or she should their names come up. More than 30 million families and relationships could be broken from this mess but that’s a gamble the Impact Team is willing to take in their fight against the spread of adultery online. They never asked for money in exchange for the keeping the data to themselves. They just wanted the site to shut down. They threatened to release the data if the site doesn’t shut down but Ashley Madison called their bluff. The hackers weren’t bluffing. Now the data is out for all who are familiar with torrents to see.

Ashley-Madison could at least have suspended their operations in light of the threat in order to protect their customers whose personal and other relationships could be put in jeopardy. Not only will their customers have problems at home but also elsewhere that matters. Besties will ignore their friends’ infidelity and might even show support but others might not be so forgiving. Neighbors, colleagues and even the boss, that is, if they made the unlikely effort to scan 9.7 gigabytes of data. Ashley-Madison could have protected their customers from the start by adding encryption in their data and beefing up security which is paramount to sites and services of their nature. Some porn sites are probably doing a better job.

Aside from getting outed as cheaters, Ashley-Madison members have a bigger problem. Their credit card information is included in the file, probably including their birth dates and real world addresses to boot, which is by now being harvested by thousands of identity theft professionals. That is unless they had the sense to falsify their addresses when they registered and cancelled their credit cards the moment the hacking news first broke out. Even if their partners and friends aren’t computer-savvy enough to scan the Ashley-Madison data, there are others who can such as nosy neighbors or people who think they can get money out of blackmail.

All those cheaters probably learned something by now. Stay in singles bars and keep their infidelity offline. So, will website owners or the internet learn anything from the Ashley Madison hacking mess? Will similar website owners do the same thing such as Tinder and Down? Websites such as Ashley-Madison and any e-commerce website for that matter should know that security is paramount not just for themselves, but for their users. Whether these websites trade using credit cards, bitcoins or wire transfer, they deal with other people’s money and often, identity thieves only need a bank account or credit card number to rob people blind. Any hacker worth the same salt as the Impact Team can easily rob commercial websites with the same infrastructure as Ashley-Madison.

The least website owners can do is add a level of encryption to their data, so in case the data is copied outside the company like what happened with the Office of Personnel Management, they’ll be next to useless unless the hackers can hack the encryption as well. If for example, they use a database such as MS SQL Server or MySQL, their data should be hashed except maybe for some key fields. Also, again as I wrote before in the WordPress piece,

  • The website host should be secure, not just the website itself.
  • Website owners who host their own sites should invest in a good hardware firewall and anti-viral security.
  • Keep their systems updated and properly patched.
  • Logins should be more secure, for instance, website owners should require their members to log-in using the mix of least-eight-digit-uppercase-smallercase-number-symbol-blood-of-virgin password standard. Such a precaution is necessary since users can’t be trusted with coming up with passwords.
  • Speaking of passwords, login tries should be limited and the passwords for both users and administrators should be changed for a determined period of time.
  • Website owners should dump the Admin/Administrator/Localuser/User1 login names to give hackers a more difficult time accessing their systems
  • …and avoid displaying the version names of the development platforms they used.

These security measures apply to other platforms aside from WordPress. While we can’t persuade sexually adventurous people from engaging in illicit activities, made easier by the internet nor tell people not to engage in businesses that cater to sexually adventurous people, the real moral of the Ashley-Madison mess lies with security. Security that Ashley-Madison may not have taken seriously. The company now faces multiple lawsuits. It’s CEO has now stepped down and the company’s reputation is now close to nil. What of its clientele? There won’t be a shortage of bored housewives, disenfranchised husbands, sexually active neglected spouses anytime soon. This mess will only make them think twice before signing up to similar services, which will probably be more secure and ready to take over what’s left of Ashley-Madison.

Sam Bradford Top Comeback & Randall Cobb Gives Packers’ Fans Chest Pains

0

sam bradford top comeback while randall cobb gives packers fans chest pains nfl 2015The Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers met Saturday, and Sam Bradford reminded the world that he actually was good at some point while locking his ballet for the Comeback Player of the Year Award.

Bradford made the Packers’ defense look as weak as his knees, compling every single one of his passes for 121 yards and three touchdowns in three drives. In fact, the Eagles have scored on every single drive Bradford has orchestrated so far this offseason.

Mark Sanchez kept the shocked Eagles fans going ballistic, putting another 18 points on the board before the end of the half. The Eagles won 39-26.

Sanchez could definitely give Bradford a run for the starting position, but Chip Kelly isn’t interested in having any sort of competition. The former No. 1 overall pick has the job until he steps on a misplaced Gatorade cup on the sideline and brakes 14 bones and tears ligaments I’ve never heard of.

Sure, that’s an exaggeration, but only a little bit unfortunately. Nothing I love more than good football, so I hope Bradford can stay in there, but given his history I think my skepticism is justified.

If Bradford can hang in there and continue this high level of play, he’ll have no problem punching the Eagles the postseason ticket they are so desperately after. He would also make Kelly a sure-fire for Coach of the Year.

DeMarco Murray looks pretty good so far, Jordan Matthews is still doing his thing. Really, Tim Tebow the “two-point specialist” is the only weak link in Philly right now. If Bradford can stay in it and play like the top pick he was, this team could really go places.

randall cobb injured packers nfl 2015The preseason excitement didn’t end there, however: Randall Cobb left the game in the first quarter with a shoulder injury, Micah Hyde was carted off with a neck injury, and Bryan Bulaga had to leave early with some ankle issues.

All one week after Jordy Nelson went down with an ACL tear…The injury bug is spreading like wildfire in Green Bay.

Be careful out there, Aaron.

While Scott was out partying with Kourtney’s younger sister, Kourtney took to Instagram to post two pictures of her with her and Scott’s 8-month-old son, Reign. The images showed Kourtney holding reign in a gray T-shirt ad striped shorts, as they sit outside on a canopy bed.

According to sources close to Kourtney, she does not plan on mending her romantic relationship with Disick, as she is fed up with his reckless partying. However, she does want to ensure that their three children are able to see their father as much as possible.

At this point, it is unclear whether Kourtney is approving of Kylie and Tyga’s interaction with her ex.

chris brown hold on karrueche tran 2015 gossipKarrueche Tran can’t seem to shake Chris Brown.

Despite not being a couple, Chris continues to seemingly be protective of Karruche after she posted a revealing picture on Instagram.

Karrueche posted a picture of her in a tiny bikini, as she sun-bathed. After posting the picture, rapper and R&B artist Marques Houston commented on the picture saying, “…look at all that booty, can’t even see your face cuz that booty in the way.”

The flirty comment didn’t go over well, as a member of Chris’ posse posted a threat directed at Marques in the form of a Instagram picture that shows two guns, with the caption reading, “N***a’s sho no how to disrespect, don’t care if they not still together. #MH”

Since the threat, Karrueche has spoken with TMZ and said that she is “bored and tired of the situation” and doesn’t understand Chris’ possessiveness, as she is “single.” She also revealed that she thought that [both her and Chris] had “matured and moved on,” especially considering Chris has been with “multiple women since the breakup.”

In addition, Karrueche revealed that her and Marques Houston are just friends and that the two have become close since finishing filming for a movie they are in together.

Chris Brown has not said anything regarding the threat his posse member posted aside from this cryptic tweet:

2015 US Open Tennis Betting Odds: Novak Djokovic Evened Out

0

us open tennis betting odds novak djokovic 2015The qualifying tournament for men’s singles at the 2015 US Open is over and main draw action is scheduled to start on Monday, August 31st. The order of play for that day has not yet been released however the draw was released earlier this week. With that release, a few of the notable tournament favorites picked up some pretty challenging first-round matches.

Firstly, here’s a look at the betting odds to win the final Grand Slam of the 2015 calendar year (all odds Stan James):

1. Novak Djokovic, EVEN
2. Roger Federer, +400 (4/1)
3. Andy Murray, +400 (4/1)
4. Stan Wawrinka, +1600 (16/1)
5. Kei Nishikori, +1600 (16/1)
6. Rafael Nadal, +3300 (33/1)
7. Grigor Dimitrov, +5000 (50/1)
8. Tomas Berdych, +6600 (66/1)

Federer, Murray, Nishikori, and Nadal have all been dealt pretty tricky first-round matches.

With Federer, he will face Leonardo Mayer, an Argentinian player who entered the US Open ranked 33rd in the world. Mayer has plenty of experience winning Grand Slam matches, in fact he has tallied 15 victories in majors since Wimbledon 2013. The World No. 33 is the highest non-seeded player at Flushing Meadows this year and that means Federer received a little bit of bad luck with his draw. The Swiss Maestro, having won recently in Cincinnati, should survive his first obstacle however it would not be surprising if Mayer, under-rated at 14 to 1, tested the current World No. 2.

Murray, having won in Montreal earlier this summer, picked up a tough first-round opponent in Nick Kyrgios. The young Australian has demonstrated that he’s adept at winning best-of-five-set matches with two quarterfinal appearances in Grand Slams so far in his career. Currently ranked 37th in the world, Kyrgios may prove to be a difficult out at the US Open and his name beside Murray’s in the draw means that the Scot, of the high seeds, is one of the most likely to suffer a first-round exit. That said, Murray, a former champion at Flushing Meadows, still enters his preliminary match as a 1 to 12 favorite.

Nishikori, relative to Federer and Murray, doesn’t have that difficult of an opponent in the first round. Last year’s runner-up has drawn France’s Benoit Paire, a 26-year old player that is yet to make a big impression on tennis fans. However Paire is still ranked in the Top 50 and he has some experience winning in majors. Usually players of Nishikori’s ranking draw very fringe players in the first rounds of Grand Slams and Paire, who has recent wins over Gilles Muller, Tommy Robredo, and David Goffin, does not fit that bill at all.

But perhaps the player, of the eight favorites listed above, that is most likely to lose in the first round of the 2015 US Open is Nadal. The Spaniard has drawn a player that could be called the emerging heir apparent for top spot on the men’s tour in the distant future. Borna Coric, Nadal’s first-round opponent, is still just 18 years old. He will soon be into the Top 25 on the men’s tour, in my opinion, and that makes him a crystal clear tennis prodigy. Nadal, who has lost the confidence of sports bettors, only enters his first-round match at Flushing Meadows at -450. Coric, who will probably need more time before he starts upsetting players in the Top 10 consistently, is still as determined as anyone to win.

Djokovic, Berdych, Dimitrov, and Wawrinka are the favorites who have to be happy with their first-round draws. None of them picked up opponents that could be called dangerous so, should one player in that quartet falter, it would likely be due to poor play. Conversely, Federer, Murray, Nishikori, and Nadal might play well and yet still face a challenge from the dangerous opponents that they have each picked up.

At time of writing, the order of play for August 31st had not been released. However expect at least a few of the favorites to be in action on Monday with all of them expected to play within the first three days of the event.

BRING IT! 218 Dancing Dolls Meet Tanisha Scott’s Big Apple

bring it big apple bitter apple recap 2015 imagesThe Dancing Dolls get a taste of New York dance life on this week’s “Bring It!,” and Diana ups the stakes so that the girls will be prepared for at for their next competition, the No Excuses dance off. Their rival this week is the Prancing Tigerettes (PT) from Memphis, TN whose coach Quincy, Dianna calls her “frenemy.” She also takes six girls with her to NYC to work with renowned hip-hop choreographer Tanisha Scott.

Now the parents are more excited than the girls it seems because they get to go New York too. Well, actually only Mimi and Tina are going (their girls were two of the six chosen) which pisses Selena all the way off. Sunja is also going and for the life of her, she can’t understand why she, as her mother, has been left out. Mimi doesn’t help the situation either. She runs down a list of all the things Selena is always “not happy” about which is petty on her part. I feel Selena on this. I mean, yes she is over the top and she is a diva, but she should be able to go too.  She makes her way to give Dianna a piece of her mind but Mimi stops because she doesn’t want to be like Tawantza (her daughter was kicked off the team because she could not get along with Diana). Selena gets herself together and sits her ass down.

The captain spot this week is between Camryn, Makalah and Crystianna. For the record, I don’t think that Camryn is the best dancer on the team because honestly there are others who are just better than her and I think that is why, despite Mimi thinking it was a given for her daughter to be the next team captain, Diana is trying others out. This week, the winner is Crystianna, who is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with and needless to say, Mimi ain’t happy.

bring it recap tanisha scott with dancing dolls bitter apple 2015The selected six head to New York and take in everything that the city has to offer. They meet with Tanisha and she gives them great pointers and techniques for them to incorporate in their routines. Now, back at the Dollhouse, some of the parents (lead by Selena) sneak into the girls’ practice, which is being run by Marcus, one of team’s assistants. Hmmmmm, I wonder how Miss D is going to feel about that.

Dianna calls him on face time and he does not hold back, showing her who snuck into the practice. She tells them to get the hell out as they try to hide their faces. Really moms, are you that scared of Dianna? Come on.

The day of competition is here and Dianna does not feel confident in what the girls are doing. Because of their trip to New York, they are not prepared since it’s the first time they have danced together in four days. The trio is just not looking good. So she makes the decision to pull out of that particular competition.

The moms do not agree with their decision. Rittany, Crystianna’s aunt, believe that that choice is in direct contrast to what she teaches the girls about trophies not mattering. The girls feel a certain kind of way about it too because they would have liked to have at least tried.

It’s time for the stand battle. The Prancing Tigerettes go up against the Pearls of Perfection from Georgia and even Dianna has to admit that they are looking better than PT. The judges must have agreed because… PT loses and does not advance to the next round! Quincy is livid because the Pearls did some kind of move after the music was off and he feels like they should be disqualified for it. He expresses this to the MC and she talks to the judges who stand by their choice. So he gathers up his team and leaves before the competition is over.

This leaves DD to dance against the Pearls, which is an interesting twist because Dianna really wanted to battle PT. The two teams make their way to the floor. Crystianna kills it as captain, which should make Camryn very nervous in the overall run for the top spot.

In the end, DD comes out on top and Dianna is overjoyed, especially being that the girls didn’t compete in the trio category. It is a good confidence boost after loosing last week to the Infamous Dancerettes too.

Kayla calls Tanisha Scott to share their win with her and she is super excited to hear the good news.

The Dancing Dolls continue to get strong each week and it’s all leading up to the biggest of completion of the year, Summer Jam.

UEFA Champions League Draw: Bayern and Arsenal in same group

0

lionel messi bulge uefa champions league draw images 2015 soccerOn Thursday, Lionel Messi was named the ‘UEFA Best Player in Europe’ for leading his side to the Champions League victory against Juventus in Berlin. The diminutive Argentine was picked by 49 out of 54 journalists present at the ceremony. Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez got only 2 and 3 votes respectively.

uefa champions league draw soccer 2015The annual ceremony held by UEFA is mainly to draw out the groups for the Champions League first round. A total of 32 teams have been divided into 8 groups A to H and the tournament will commence on September 17th.

Group A features the European heavyweights Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain. Angel di Maria will make a return to the Santiago Bernabeu, one year after his departure from the ten-time European champions. Zlatan Ibrahimovic will also face his former side Malmo FC in the group games, as PSG face the Swedish side in both home and away fixtures. Shakhtar Donetsk is the fourth team in the group, but it is very likely that Real Madrid and PSG will go through to the round of 16 from this group.

Manchester United make a return to the Champions League after beating Bruges in the Champions League play-off round. The 20-time English champions are drawn with Wolfsburg, PSV and CSKA Moscow. It’ll be a homecoming for Memphis Depay, who won the Dutch league with PSV last season. Wolfsburg and Manchester United are the favorites to qualify from Group B.

Benfica, Atletico, Galatasaray and the Kazakhstan based club Astana are pitted in Group C. Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid might top the group and head into the first knockout round, while it could be a tough fight between Galatasaray and Benfica for the second spot.

Group D is probably the hardest group this season. Last season’s finalists Juventus will face Manchester City, Sevilla and Monchengladbach. The Serie A champions and the English side are expected to top the table but Sevilla and the Bundesliga outfit can certainly cause an upset.

Group E consists of the reigning European champions – FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants are certain to make it through to the next round. Luis Enrique’s men will face the Italian giants AS Roma. Roma might finish second but they’ll have a tough test against the German club Bayer Leverkusen. Leverkusen defeat Italian side Lazio in the Champions League play-off, hence Roma can’t take them lightly. BATE are expected to get the whipping from most of the teams in this group.

Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Olympiakos and Dinamo Zagreb are drawn in Group F. Pep Guardiola’s men will once again face the Gunners in the Champions League. The North Londoners can take up either of the top two spots, depending upon their performances against the likes of Olympiakos and Dinamo Zagreb. Bayern Munich, on the other hand, are the favorites to reach the later stages of the tournament.

Group G will be contested by Chelsea, Porto, Dynamo Kyiv and M. Tel-Aviv. Jose Mourinho will be meeting his former club in the group stage. It will be an emotional return for the Portuguese manager, who lifted the Champions League trophy with Porto in 2004. Chelsea might finish the group stages at the top of Group G and Porto can take up the runners-up spot.

Group H features Valencia, Zenit St. Petersburg, Lyon and Gent. It will be a tough group to qualify from for all the sides. The matches will be very close and the team that starts well will have a very good chance of reaching this season’s knockout stage.
