kansas city royals win underwhelming world series 2015 mlb imagesAfter a very unentertaining, in fact horrid, World Series the 2015 Major League Baseball season is finally over. Game five from Citi Field in New York saw the Mets try to extend the Fall Classic to a game six. They failed miserably and very unheroically as the Kansas City Royals claimed the world championship.

In a game that saw Matt Harvey get 24 outs without surrendering a run, the New York Mets still managed to find a way to lose. They lost because they were unable to score runners even under nearly optimal conditions. They lost because the coaching staff seemed to let the players decide who was playing. They lost because they couldn’t throw a ball straight across 90 feet and they lost because they couldn’t field a ground ball.

In the World Series, of course, the expectation is that two distinguished teams will collide. In 2015, we got a very good team in the Kansas City Royals against what looked like a non-playoff team in the New York Mets.

For a game recap, here’s all you need to know. The Royals scored two in the ninth to tie the game and they scored five in the 12th to win it. Lucas Duda of New York was the goat in the ninth for failing to end the game with a spot-on throw to the catcher that appeared as though it would have gotten Eric Hosmer out. Daniel Murphy re-goated himself when he failed at picking up a routine ground ball in the 12th.

The final score of game five was 7-2 with Kansas City winning the World Series 4-1 to claim their first championship since 1985.

The Royals will probably be remembered as a team that got whatever they needed when they were in dire straits. Down 2-1 in an ALDS and losing by six to Houston, Kansas City rallied very late for a win and then won game five. When they were behind the Mets, KC would always rally as well. Against Toronto, KC got the calls they needed to strike out Toronto batters when the Blue Jays were possibly in the midst of demonstrating who was actually more clutch.

As for the whole playoffs, the following events are the key ones in my mind:

(1) The stunning solo shot from Alex Gordon in game one of the World Series off of Jeurys Familia.

(2) The injury to Ruben Tejada in an NLDS, an injury that took his defensive skills out of the playoffs.

(3) The resulting errors from Daniel Murphy in games four and five of the World Series that proved costly.

(4) The horrible umpiring in game six of the ALCS, all of which benefited KC, which took Toronto, a team that might have been better, out of contention.

(5) The fielding error by David Wright in the bottom of the 14th of game one of the World Series.

Salvador Perez, the back catcher for the Royals, was named MVP of the Fall Classic.

Thankfully, Major League Baseball is now over for the year. It would have been more enjoyable if the powers that be outlawed the kind of sliding that Chase Utley partook in. It also would have been nicer if the players decided the ALCS.

’10 Days In A Madhouse’ Brings Back Nellie Bly

10 days in a madhouse movie images 2015 nellie blyThe upcoming biopic 10 Days in a Madhouse – The Nellie Bly Story will be releasing in theaters soon, so of course I had to check out the trailer. The movie tells the story of 23-year-old journalist Nellie Bly, who goes undercover for world-famous editor Joseph Pulitzer. In an elaborate plan, Nellie fakes insanity in order to get her herself arrested and committed into Blackwell’s Island Insane Asylum for women.  After successfully getting committed to the institution, Nellie discovers the shocking truths and injustices happening within the asylum walls. The young journalist goes on to reveal the ugly realities to the world, as she becomes one of the most influential journalists in American history.

With over 8000 submissions from hopefuls hoping to portray Nellie in the film, newcomer Caroline Barry was selected for the coveted role. This casting happening just two months after the young actress moved from Colorado to Los Angeles to pursue acting. In a recent interview, Caroline recounted her audition saying, “the director said he was looking for Nellie Bly’s smile and that optimistic spirit, and he felt my audition was the one that really had that smile and the brightness and optimism” Here, she refers to the director Timothy Hines who is known for his adaption of HG Wells’ War of the Worlds.

Alongside Caroline is actor Christopher Lambert, who stars as E.C. Dent, the head of the mental hospital. Lambert is known for his roles in such films as Highlander and Mortal Combat. He also appears in the upcoming movie Hail Caesar!, where he co-stars alongside Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and George Clooney.  In an interview on LA Talk Radio, Caroline revealed that Christopher brought authenticity to his role as antagonist Dr. Dent by portraying his motives as misguided good rather than evil.

Actress and former supermodel Kelly Le Brock, who you may recognize from her role in the John Hughes cult classic Weird Science, also has a supporting role in the film. It is noted that Kelly was cast in the production right before filming and had only 12 hours to prepare for her role. Kelly later told the press that she drew from her own experiences dealing with mental illness with her past stalkers.

The movie enlisted a cast of 90% women and was worked on by Avril Beukes, who is known for her humanitarian work in film and has worked on numerous Academy-Award nominated movies and documentaries. In addition Brooke Kroeger, a journalism professor at New York State University and writer of Nellie Bly: Daredevil, Reporter, Feminist, served as the historical consultant of the film.

In the trailer, Nellie is seen meeting publisher Joseph Pulitzer, who tells her that his newspaper would like her to “infiltrate” Blackwell’s Island Lunatic Asylum for Women. She tells him she will “teach [herself] to be mad” in order to fulfill his request. She embarks on the assignment, even though the newspaper does not have a clear plan on how to get her out once she is admitted.

10 days in a madhouse trailer hits 2015 imagesSoon after, Nellie and the other women in the facility are seen enduring cruel and unethical treatments. Dr. Dent claims that Blackwell will one day become a “utopian example of the most advanced treatment of the insane.” The women are prohibited from reading and seem to be driven to any higher degree of insanity from the practices put into place within the asylum.

10 Days in a Madhouse first premiered at the Marche Du Film Festival De Cannes in early May. Soon after, Variety reported that it was the 3rd largest trending film on the Internet that week. Additionally, it was also chosen as the opening film for Geena Davis’ inaugural Bentonville Film Festival, which celebrates women and diversity.

An interesting detail of the film is that they did the majority of its filming in Salem, Oregon. This being the same location as where the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest was filmed, which also addressed injustices and misconceptions with mental health. The crew used an abandoned mental institution with no electricity, which meant actors and crew were working in temperatures around 10 degrees.

Nellie Bly has garnered notable attention after she was featured in Life magazine’s May 2015 issues in “Top 100 Women Who Changed the World.”

Furthermore, the movie gives audiences insight into how mental illness was treated not all too long ago. While we have made steps in the right direction, mental illness continues to be a prevalent issue in society today. However, it is brave people like Nellie who enable us to continue to make progress towards creating a safer environment for everyone struggling with their mental health and well-being.

Based on an incredible true story, 10 Days in a Madhouse will be opening in New York City on November 11th and nationwide (in AMC theatres) on November 20th.

‘Dead Body’ Trailer Surfaces

dead body trailer surfaces 2015 moviesJust because Halloween has passed us by doesn’t mean you can’t still catch some gore and horror. Upcoming horror movie Dead Body is set to premiere at this month’s NYC Horror Fest, and thus, the teaser trailer has been released online.

The movie is about nine high school kids who decide to celebrate their graduation at a secluded home in the middle of the woods. While out in the wilderness, the group reminisces on their high school memories while imagining what life will be like now that they are ready to leave home. As their party begins to die down, they decide to play a game, known as Dead Body. However, one of the guests takes the game too seriously and actually begins murdering their fellow graduates one by one. Therefore, it is up to the group (those who are still alive) to band together and try to determine whom the killer is before it is too late.

Dead Body was produced by Ian Bell and Ramon Isao and directed by first-time female filmmaker Bobbin Ramsey. Their team worked together for over three years perfecting the script. The movie’s post-production cost was actually partially funded through KickStarter. Their crowdsourcing campaign raised $25, 410 and became a staff picked favorite on the popular fundraising site.

The film includes many up-and-coming actors, who come from strong theater backgrounds. Director Bobbin Ramsey also acted as the movie’s stage director. Ramsey commented on her directing of the cast saying, “the most important thing to remember when working with actors in a horror movie is to constantly remind them of the stakes. Remembering that every character is fighting for survival, no matter where you are in chronology of the film is necessary to building the momentum of the horror and giving the character forward movement through the plot.”

The crew working on Dead Body wanted to use clever manipulation of both the horror and whodunit genres. It is noted that the movie is reminiscent of Clue and the works of Agatha Christie. Dead Body aims to keep audiences guessing while providing intense thrills lead by a strong female character. Additionally, it aims to keep up with the best of the slasher movie genre.

The trailer begins with one of the high school students suggesting that the group plays “Dead Body.” While some are not into the idea, the group eventually decides to give the game a go. The student goes on to explain the rules saying, “one of us is secretly the killer and after I count to 3 and hit the lights, we all hide. Once a minute passes, the murderer sneaks around. And if he or she pinches you, you’re out.” Another partygoer goes on to explain, “If you find a victim you yell out “Dead Body” and then we all regroup and argue out who we think the killer is.” Unfortunately, the mood of the clip takes a turn as it shows hints of the slashing that occurs after the game commences. One guy notes, “[the game] beats PlayStation,” however from the trailer it looks like he won’t be thinking that for long.

The movie stars several young actors, including Cooper Hopkins (ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction), Nathan Pringle, Jay Myers, and Miho Aizawa. Together they soon find out that the murderer is doing a lot more than “pinching” their victims. Ultimately, they have to try and overcome their personal paranoia, mistrust and built up animosities for one another, in order to outwit the murderer and make it through “the game” alive.

The film will be featured at the NYC Horror Festival, which runs from November 12-14. Previous guests of the highly competitive NYC festival include Wes Craven, Rob Zombie and Roger Corman. Dead Body is also being played at the Another Hole in the Head Festival on November 14 in San Francisco.

Roger Federer claimed his seventh career title at ATP Basel on Sunday, defeating career-rival Rafael Nadal in a three-set final. It was the first meeting between the two players in almost two years with Federer ending a losing streak against Nadal that dated back about twice as long. The line score in the final was 63, 57, 63.

With the seventh title, Federer matches his total titles in a quartet of other tournaments. The Swiss Maestro, currently ranked third in the world, has also won Wimbledon, Cincinnati, Dubai, and Halle a total of seven times each. Furthermore, Federer also closed the gap between he and Nadal in terms of head-to-heads. Nadal now leads the series between the two 23-11.

Speaking after the match Federer claimed this past week “was one of (his) best weeks in Basel” and that he thought the match against Nadal was a competitive one: “I had my chances in the second, but he fought back well, like he’s done throughout the week really. Overall I was really happy how I played and it was a very special day.”

Federer, in a recent previous outing on tour, had suffered an early defeat. He referenced that loss, which happened in Shanghai, and suggested that he was now on a better track:

“The confidence is good, no doubt about that. It’s good to get back into the mood of winning after Shanghai… I think the body’s gotten used to match play again after all these weeks of not playing.”

For Nadal, the Spaniard fell to 3-3 on the year in tournament finals. While making it to the championship match in a tournament that featured Stan Wawrinka on the same half of the draw has to feel good, Nadal failed to really exclaim that he was back into being a force on tour. His post-match comments suggested that he realizes he is beneath his best tennis still.

Nadal: “My goal is to get back to my level and be competitive against the top players again and today I was very competitive against one of the best players in the world. The match wasn’t far away from me. He played well and I played well too. The match was very close to win, but I think he served very well in the third. I want to congratulate him for the victory and I had a lot of quality things in my game and mental side to take away from the week.”

Both players are in the ATP Paris draw, but they should also both be tired. Look for Nadal and Federer to be more focused on the upcoming ATP World Tour Finals than the final Masters Series event of 2015.

does early 2016 presidential election coverage really help voters decide 2015 opinionBy the way the media is covering the 2016 Presidential Election, you would think we are only a few weeks away from choosing the new President of the United States instead of over a year until we cast our votes.

The campaign process really changed with the election of Barrack Obama. Candidates have to come up with a catchy, commanding approach to communicate their plans years before they even intend to announce their intent to run for president. The media has a lot to do with that. Their agenda setting makes us have to deal with Hilary Clinton answering for her emails, Donald Trump trying to make up for alienates minorities, Ben Carson comparing every issue to slavery and Bernie Sanders being heckled by protestors. I am already exhausted by the 2016 presidential election already, but I will not put my need to be informed on the back burner because of my suspicion of the political process. Indeed, my doubts about the direction in which this country is going are the very things that push me to pay attention and speak out about issues.

At this point, the American people are pros at dealing with politicians who make promises that they can’t deliver. So it’s not about helping people make up their minds as much as it is about showing people that what they think about a certain candidate is actually the truth. And all the media has to do is frame a presidential hopeful in a way that proves the people right or wrong.

But unless anonymous implements “back to zero” that “tear it down to build it up” notion will forever remain just that- a notion.

I cannot deny that there are corruption and too many attention seekers who don’t hold the best interests of their constitutes at heart. We don’t have people in office who represent us. Their loyalties lie in their party, themselves and the individuals and entities that support them monetarily. So how can us common folks who need change and help win? Can we win? And perhaps, most importantly, like what does winning look?

This presidential election offers nothing different from what we have seen in elections past and because of that, I am not pressed. I already know I am not voting for any Republican candidate because they all share core values of their party with which I just don’t agree. As far as the Democrats, I only pay attention to the one whose agenda align with my needs and values. With that, I don’t agree with the train of thought that our votes don’t matter because they do. Now we can only do so much once a candidate is in office, but if I vote for Jim Webb based on what he said he’s going to do and then he dramatically changes his agenda, the fault lies in his dishonesty and lack of integrity and not in the fact that I voted for him.

So know, that while I am extremely cynical about the state of our government and the authenticity of the people vying for my support. Nonetheless, that is not going to stop me from paying attention, forming my opinions and casting my vote.

And that is what people have to understand. I get that it there is a growing consensus that how we feel doesn’t matter, but we have to realize that we have control over- educating ourselves on the candidates and voting accordingly- does matter.

2016 republican candidates presidentThe truth is presidential elections are a necessary evil. They are a part of a world because we have allowed them to be. They are not going anywhere. They present to us who we have to work with and weeds out the ones that don’t quite fit the bill.

It is going to get even more intense as the months draw near, and I don’t think that we can truly say who is going to get the democratic or republican nomination. The best thing we can do is not jump on bandwagons or agree with popular commentators.

This election, instead of casting it off as a parade of self-centered crazies, let’s map out for ourselves what’s important, why it’s important and cross our fingers that the person we vote for based on what we value and what they say holds up their end of the deal.

The Kansas City Royals are one game away from winning the 2015 World Series following Saturday night’s game four from New York. The Mets, who lead game four for almost the entire game, will be on the brink of elimination come Sunday evening.
On a night that saw unexpected offense from Mets’ player Michael Conforto and clutch pitching from Bartolo Colon, New York appeared poised to tie the series 2-2. However, the game appeared to hinge on a pivotal eighth inning and a costly error from the Mets’ second baseman, Daniel Murphy.
Up by one, with one out in the top of the eighth, and with KC runners on first and second Murphy failed to field a slow roller that likely would have produced a second out in the inning. Instead, the runner on second scored, and KC rallied for two more runs, claiming a 5-3 lead that held up for a win and a 3-1 series lead.
Murphy, according to Joe Buck of Fox, was the “toast of the town” in New York prior to the World Series. His offensive output in the first two rounds of the post-season killed both Los Angeles and Chicago. However in the World Series Murphy’s hitting has tapered off and now his fielding, among other mistakes by New York, has cost the Mets a reasonable chance of winning the 2015 Fall Classic.
Of course, the reason that Murphy was even at second base extends from the dirty slide from Chase Utley earlier in the playoffs, a slide that broke Ruben Tejada’s leg. Tejada was New York’s preferred second baseman, so the ugly play from the Dodger has put a stamp on the 2015 World Series.
Kansas City now only need to win one of the next three games to claim their first World Series since 1985. These Royals were down 2-1 in the divisional round and down by six runs late in game four. If they win on Sunday night, Tuesday night, or Wednesday night then KC will have come all the way back to claim baseball’s highest team award.

joseph randle sits while johnny manziel plays 2015 imagesWhile the NFL is being much more aggressive when it comes to off the field incidents involving its players, it’s still a foggy situation as to who gets punished and how quickly. Just comparing Joseph Randle and Johnny Manziel shows how complicated it is for the NFL to dole out the right punishment in each situation.

Randle, who is inactive for his Cowboys against the Seahawks, could miss a couple games for an arrest back in February for Marijuana possession. Randle was also arrested for shoplifting in the past, so he is no stranger to the legal system.

Johnny Manziel remains active as the backup for his Browns despite his recent brush with the law involving an incident with his girlfriend, Colleen Crowley. Manziel was not arrested though details of the incident certainly put him in a bad light as the NFL tries to put the hammer down on any domestic violence involving its players.

Manziel met with NFL investigators last week as they try to get to the bottom of what happened between Johnny Football and his live-in girlfriend Crowley. The Browns #2 QB was represented by NFLPA attorney Heather McPhee, who helped Ray Rice get his indefinite suspension lifted and also represented Tom Brady in his ridiculous DeflateGate case.

It’s easy to wonder why one player faces a suspension that will come sooner rather than later. Randle’s arrest was over eight months ago while Manziel’s incident happened just weeks ago. It takes time to sort out the details of these off the field incidents, even though the slow process makes both the League and the players involved look bad.

The reason for Randle’s inactive status for Sunday’s game with Seattle has more to do with his current mental state than the Marijuana arrest. This according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.

Manziel was never arrested so there shouldn’t be a lot for NFL investigators to look at. He was stopped by the police and the few minutes seen on the dashcam is about all investigators will have to go on. Unless Manziel says something really dumb during his interview (no chance with McPhee right next to him), he could get off with no suspension at all.

It’s hard for me to see how his actions can’t be considered domestic violence if he truly pushed his girlfriend’s head into the car window. These quotes from Crowley to police seem like an open and shut case, “Manziel pushed her head against the glass of the car” and that he “hit her a couple of times.”

However, I’m no lawyer and would stand even less a chance against Heather McPhee than the NFL’s team of investigators do.

If I were in charge of the Browns, I would like to believe I would make Manziel inactive until this is sorted out. It is their right to do just that. The fact that his girlfriend stated that the guy struck her would be enough for me to sit him. Probably even cut him.

That’s one reason I’m not a billionaire I guess. If I had the bankroll to own an NFL team, I would be smart enough with money to know that I was locked into keeping Manziel ready to play even though he hit his girlfriend during an argument. If Josh McCown goes down, I would have to have a #2 guy ready to go. That’s Manziel.

As for Joseph Randle, he’s just a running back, and the Cowboys can fill his spot pretty easily. RB < QB. It’s a very simple equation. They could cut Randle right now, and it would be no major blow to the franchise long term. Running backs should remember this, even with harmless offenses like weed possession.

The League’s responsibility is different than the teams involved. Sure Roger Goodell could just slap Johnny Football with a six-game suspension in a hurry. However, it would likely get overruled just like many other cases when it got to a higher authority.

The NFL has to get all the details and have their ducks in a row. Even then the punishment may not stick.

I hate to defend Roger Goodell, but it is hard to be tough on domestic violence when even the court system can’t get it right. We witnessed that with Greg Hardy winning his court appeal by bribing his abuse victim to disappear, allegedly.

And with Manziel, the police didn’t even arrest the guy.

The U.S. legal system is nowhere near perfect. In fact it’s become pretty pathetic.

So I guess we shouldn’t expect the NFL to be much better when it comes to dealing with guys who go astray like Manziel and Randle.

Lindsay Lohan’s Family Troubles & Rosie O’Donnell’s Daughter’s Distance Grows

Lohan was arrested for reportedly forging a parking permit. 27-year-old Michael was detained on Thursday in Manhattan following an investigation from the New York State police.

The police revealed in a statement that Michael had displayed a forged parking permit that read “official business.” Also on the permit was a depiction of an NYS government seal. The permit was displayed on his 2015 Audi, which was parked outside of his apartment building in the Gramercy section of the borough.

Michael’s attorney, Mark Heller tells Page Six that the police “just summarily arrested [Michael]” and “put him in handcuffs and put him in a car,” without issuing a formal parking ticket. Mark also revealed that Michael told him he didn’t “intentionally” violate the law. Going on to quote Michael, who apparently explained, “I have never been arrested, and I’m a very hardworking and successful entrepreneur.”

The New York police department stated that Michael was arrested for criminal possession of a forged instrument in the third degree and criminal impersonation in the second degree, both of which are misdemeanors. His future court appearance is scheduled for December 14.

rosid odonnels daughter continues distance 2015 gossipFor the past several months, Rosie O’Donnell’s strained relationship with her adopted daughter Chelsea has been playing out the public eye. This follows an incident a couple months back where 18-year-old Chelsea reportedly ran away from home.

On October 20, Chelsea posted a plea on her social media account saying, “I don’t want to come off rude, that is not my intention. However, I have asked not to be brought into any Rosie drama and that I don’t want to hear anything about her. I would appreciate if anyone who is tagging me or asking me questions about her would please stop. Thank you.” After this, Chelsea proceeded to post a collage of selfies on her social media page.

Now, Rosie has decided to address Chelsea’s plea to her followers in an attempt to distance herself from her adopted mother. On her Twitter, Rosie posted two photos: one of Chelsea’s message to fans asking them to not tag her in posts regarding Rosie and also the Instagram “photo shoot” picture Chelsea posted of herself shortly after.

Along with the photos, Rosie wrote, “18 years ago tomorrow – I met my daughter for the first time…a plea ten days ago…now a photo shoot #choices.”

Chelsea has continued to speak negatively about her mother to the press. Something tells me after this latest tweet from Rosie, we will be hearing more from Chelsea in the near future.

‘Shark Tank’ 706: Rent Champions & Hot Shot Windcatchers

shark tank 706 recap 2015 images mark cubanLast night aired the 6th episode of this season of ABC’s hit show Shark Tank. In the show, budding entrepreneurs get the chance to pitch their businesses to a panel of “sharks,” who are five incredibly successful businesspeople looking to invest in up-and-coming ventures.

Tonight featured cast regulars Mark Cuban, Kevin O’Leary, Lori Greiner and Robert Herjavec. Joining them was guest “shark” Chris Sacca. Sacca formerly served as Head of Special Initiatives at Google Inc., but is now investing his money across Silicon Valley, including in such companies as Twitter, Kickstarter and Uber.

So here are the pitches from last night’s episode:

  1. Rent Like a Champion

Asking: $200,000 for 10%

The first pitch of the night was from Mike Doyle and Drew Mitchell of Rent Like a Champion. Their company started in 2006 and offers a database for people to find vacant apartments for weekend rentals for traveling football fans. The site is similar to AirBnB, but it is tailored for the niche market of college football fans.

Right away, the sharks began to grill Mike and Drew on the fact that they don’t have a major point of different from AirBnB. Chris Sacca points out that he wouldn’t want to rent a room to people who are most likely “trashed” during their stay. Lori agrees with Chris’ point and pulls out. However, Chris says he didn’t fully understand AirBnB and regrets that since now it is such a successful company. Mike and Drew tell him that they are different as they focus on major college football towns, rather than big cities like AirBnB.

They impress the panel as they explain their sales in 2014 to be $1.4 million, and their projected sales for 2015 coming in around $4.1 million. After hearing this, Kevin decides to offer $200,000 for 15%. Chris says he will match Kevin’s offer. Mark decides to come in on Sacca’s deal, and they come to an agreement at $200,000 for 10% split between Mark and Chris.

  1. Hot Shot

Asking: $300,000 for 10%

Next up in the tank was Daniel Grossfeld, the brains behind Hot Shot “coffee-in-a-can.” Hot Shot specializes in portable coffee in a can that is ready to take to go after being heated in the company’s 140-degree “hot box” storage.

The company explains, “Hotshot is the first ‘HOT’ Ready-To-Drink Beverage Company in the United States! We offer various Coffee & Chocolate beverages, served ‘HOT’ in a can, so it’s Ready-To-Drink! It’s fresh brewed taste captured in a can for the ultimate convenience.”

Unfortunately, Daniel has spent 6-years developing the business and has yet to launch, which always causes hesitation amongst the sharks. He also explains that lots of companies are willing to do a “test,” however he has yet to get any substantial pre-orders.

Kevin says that it is a hobby and drops out. Robert also drops out of the deal. Chris follows behind. Mark says he loves the idea but hates the business, so he also drops out. Lastly, Greiner tells Daniel that he needs to give up and says she is out.

Thus, Daniel leaves the tank without any deal.

  1. Windcatcher

Asking: $200,00 for 8%

Ryan Frayne enters the tank with his inflation technology called Windcatcher. Windcatcher allows users to inflate their “AirPads” by using a specific valve technology that increases the efficiency of manually blowing up an “Airpad”.

Ryan goes on to tell the sharks that he sells the product for $99.95, and currently they have sold $165,000 worth of the company’s products. He explains that he wants to create products using this special valve but also license it to other sectors outside of recreational products (i.e. medical applications, etc.).

After his pitch, Kevin offers $200,000 as venture debt where he gets 6% of whatever he sells until he is paid back and 3% equity. After, Lori enters and offers $200,000 for 15% equity. Chris decides he wants to join in on Lori’s deal. However, this means Lori wants a higher equity stake. They end up offering Ryan $200,000 for 20%. Ryan right away rejects this offer, as the equity is too high. Robert then offers him $200,000 for 10%.

The sharks begin getting into a bit of a quarrel, which ends with Lori offering $200,000 for 5%. Ryan accepts Lori’s deal.

  1. STEM Center

Asking: $150,000 for 15%

Lavanya and Melissa Jawaharlal are two sisters who created the company, STEM Center. The center is an organization that provides students with experimental education using the principles of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

The Center boasts, “STEM Center USA inspires the next generation of STEM leaders by developing a passion for STEM careers at a young age and maintaining interest throughout middle and high school. We provide students with an experimental education that excites, engages and enriches through a unique, learning-by-dong curriculum.”

In the past year, the sister’s organization brought in $300,000 in revenue. Chris tells them that he actually remembers their robotics kit that they were fundraising on KickStarter, which got a lot of attention. Unfortunately, Kevin says he doesn’t know what direction they are going in and drops out of the deal.

After, both Robert and Cuban pull out of the deal but express support for the sisters. Chris ends up offering $150,000 for 25% equity. Lori also expresses interest in the company’s mission and the potential for such centers to be important to women. She offers them $150,000 for 20% equity. The sisters try and get Chris to join in on Lori’s deal. However, he doesn’t want to share the equity.

Thus, the girls agree to Lori’s deal at $200,000 for 20%.

Next Week:

Once again late night host Jimmy Kimmel and his security guard sidekick Guillermo come to the tank to “pitch” their idea. In addition an ice cream product that is low calorie, an edible soap and lotions business and a fun, convenient way to stay in shape is also pitched. Rafael Nadal vs Roger Federer: ATP Basel Finals 2015
Roger Federer, the current World No. 3, is into the final of ATP Basel for the 12th time in his career. The Swiss player, playing in what is considered his home tournament, defeated America’s Jack Sock in a fairly routine semifinal victory on Saturday 6-3, 6-4. The win seemed fairly easy relative to the three-setters that Federer played in earlier rounds against both Philipp Kohlschreiber and David Goffin.
However the final, for Federer, promises to be anything but easy. The World No. Three will next face Rafael Nadal, a player who had a rough go in Basel this week but one that should have a lot of confidence against Fed in the final.
Nadal, in his semifinal, survived a couple of well-contested sets against Richard Gasquet. But the match was different than the other ones in Switzerland this week in one way. Previously Nadal had been extended to three sets in each of his matches. Of note, Rafa was down a set and a break to Lukas Rosol way back in the tournament’s first round. The Spaniard, in making the final after a tough week, has definitely displayed the perseverance that has earned him so many fans over the years.
Federer and Nadal have not been meeting with that much frequency on tour in recent seasons. In fact, it has been almost two full seasons since their last match, one that came at the 2014 Australian Open. Since that time, it has been Nadal whose game has declined however the fact remains that the Spaniard is 23-10 against Federer overall. Furthermore, a trend within that trend is Nadal’s current five-match winning streak against the Swiss Maestro.
The last time Federer beat Nadal was back in 2012 in the Indian Wells final. While the Swiss will surely ground some optimism in the fact that he is playing in Basel, one of Federer’s best events, the Basel final has not always been a cinch for him. Federer has losses to Juan Martin del Potro (x2) and Novak Djokovic in the championship match of the 500-series event since 2009. With Nadal regaining some confidence, there should be all to play for in the Basel final this season.
The championship match will start not before 2:30 pm local time with Federer considered the favorite despite the losing streak to Nadal (source: bet365).

Happy Halloween to you people. Billboard feels the wrath of Black Twitter over it’s North West meme, Boy George claims he got showered with Prince’s ‘Purple Rain,’ Raven Symoné is learning just how many people don’t like her, and Ice Cube gets a defamation lawsuit with Dr. Dre over “Straight Outta Compton” movie.

People are not dealing with the sexualization of a child, and that’s exactly how it should be. It doesn’t matter that North West’s mother got her start in a sex tape that catapulted her to fame. It is never funny insinuating that North West is just like her in that way.

Billboard got a rude awakening to this truth when black Twitter jumped all over a picture they posted of Nori sucking on a lollipop in her mother’s arms with the caption,

“The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”

They have since taken down the picture and gave the explanation that they were referring to a video link in the tweet of Nori telling paparazzi, “I said, ‘No picture.’”

With that, they said they were linking her to her father Kanye West’s hatred for taking pictures. But that is a load of crap because if that were the case, they would have used his picture.

 

Come on now Billboard, how stupid do you really think we are? We all know that you did is to draw people to your social media, and while you may have done that, it was in Uberly poor taste.

Well, that’s what the “Cameleon” singer told The Voice audience members and crew during a taping of the show for the BBC.

He along with Will.i.am, Ricky Wilson of Kaiser Chiefs and Paloma Faith were all boasting about who they’ve collaborated with and according to the Dailymail UK, Boy George got a little too personal trying to “out do” his fellow judges.

“’Forget that, darling, I’ve slept with Prince.”

That was his response to Paloma saying that she worked with Prince. His comments stopped the taping, as the audience could not contain their composure. One source says, “’Production staff had to come up on stage and speak to them.”

Of course because he spilled some beans that he was probably never supposed to, or that didn’t happen, he backtracked on his comments to “clarify” what he really meant. Another source told the online site:

“After that, Boy George started backtracking saying he hadn’t really slept with Prince and that in reality, he just had his poster on his wall.”

Come on Boy George, you don’t have to lie to kick it.

I knew it was just a matter of time before something like this happened. Black folks, in particular, are tired of hearing, seeing and having to deal with Raven Symoné and her crazy thought process about black people in general and they have found a way to do something about it- start a change.org petition.

More than 90,000 people have signed the petition that demands Barbara Walters to fire Raven from the show and the reason is quite clear.

“African Americans and black people around the diaspora need a voice representative of their views and not a voice representative of what white people want us to say.” Heron wrote. “We need strong black role models in prominent positions on television and Raven-Symoné cannot provide that. That is why I ask that we petition to remove her from ‘The View.'”

The woman who started the petition, Che Scott-Heron, is adamant about the damage she believe Raven Symoné is doing to the black community, and she, along with many others, want something done about it.

For Scott-Heron, the last straw was Raven’s comments about the Spring Valley High School assault on a black teenage girl by a resource officer. The View co-host blamed the girl’s usage of her cell phone during school as the reason, and some say justification of what happened.

I’d like to see where this goes.

Well, this is what happens when movies are made, and people are shown in a less than favorable light. They not only want a piece of the pie, but they also want to get even. And that’s what it looks like Jerry Heller is doing about the movie Straight Outta Compton.

Heller is coming for everyone involved in the making of the movie that he feels defamed his him, and the first “victims” are Dr. Dre and Ice Cube, Eazy E’s estate, and NBC Universal.

He does not appreciate his portrayal in the movie as a “sleazy manager who took advantage of Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, and Ice Cube.” Furthermore, he says that it is outrageous for them to claim that he withheld $75,000 from Ice Cube, tricked the members of N.W.A. into signing bad contracts and that he was fired by Eazy, among a host of other things.

Straight Outta Compton was a tremendously successful film, and Heller says he “never gave permission to use his likeness” according to TMZ.

He wants some of the profits from the movie to the tune of $110 million.

Hmmm, sounds like someone is straight outta of their minds.
