Apple News Updates: Tim Cook or Tim Crook?

apple news tim cook or tim crook 2015

Apple just released their annual charts and with it, the salaries of its executives. As a public company, the public has the right to know what Apple leaders rake in every year. Last 2014, the most prominent earner in Apple is of course, CEO Tim Cook who earned 9.2 million dollars, 1.7 million of which was his actual salary. The remaining 6.7 million is what is called non-equity compensation, a bonus depending on how well Apple performed that year. Tim Cook earned 4.2 million last year which makes his earnings this year more than double. The question is, did he deserve to get that much cash?

According to Apple’s 2014 revenues, apparently he did and according to Apple’s compensation committee, he deserved every dollar. Also, according to the stock market, his compensation as well as his net worth can only go up.

Now Steve Jobs has been gone for some time, and all eyes remain on Tim’s shoulders whether or not he can make it on his own, but based on Apple’s 2014 numbers, he’s not doing a bad job. One thing about Tim’s surname, whether it’s a verb or a noun, it always leans on the positive. The noun cook means someone who cooks or creates. The verb cook means the act of cooking or creating. He, along with other Apple staff who believe in Jobs’ beliefs in design and quality, continue to cook up innovations like the Apple Watch and the Apple 5S fingerprint scanner. Apple has made some compromises that Steve would have frowned upon but things have so far been peachy. Steve has never really been an absolute, he’ll cave in if something really can’t or shouldn’t be done. Based on that, Apple won’t engage in something unless absolutely necessary such as churning out a large iPhone due to the high demand for larger screens.

Actually, Tim’s 1.7 million salary is less than the 2 million dollar salary that was awarded to him by the compensation committee last February 2014. The changes were applied mid-year and were pro-rated resulting in his 1.7 million dollar salary. The same goes with the performance-based cash bonuses awarded to Apple executives. But why 6.7 million for Tim? Annual bonuses given by the compensation committee depends on performance criteria and performance goals. Performance criteria is based on the company’s net sales and operating income. The company set their performance goals for 2014 up to 6% higher than the year 2013. Apparently, Tim and company reached and exceeded this goal especially in the last quarter of 2014 with the release of the iPhone 6.

So how well did Apple do to earn Tim his 9.2 million dollars?

Apple did very well. 2014 saw the release of several new Apple products mainly the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Apple also entered the world of wearables with the innovative Apple Watch. Apple is expected to put on some noise in the future after their acquisition of Dr. Dre’s Beats Electronics. Further improvement to Apple’s already high-quality audio further increased Apple’s stocks.

apple revenue data iphone ipad and mac chart images 2015

Fiscal year 2014 saw the sales of 169.2 million iPhones. That number multiplied by how much each new unit is worth is already a stellar amount. The number of individual persons who could afford Apple’s phones is almost mind-boggling. The fourth quarter alone saw the sales of over 39 million devices with the release of the iPhone 6, meaning that it’s just the beginning. However, iPad sales have already dipped due to a tablet-saturated market with only 68 million units sold with little help from newly released iPad Mini 3 and iPad Air models. The new models offered nothing new other than performance tweaks while hybrid tablets continue to flood the market and offer new and more productive experiences for tablet users.

apple mac sales estimated chart 2015

Apple also sold over 18 million Macs in 2014 with help from the powerful Mac Pro. Pundits continue to pummel the future of personal computers but the platform remains strong whether its Macs or Windows. When it comes to productivity, tablets just aren’t there yet. PC users continued disdain of Windows 8 has somewhat contributed to the rise of Macs and put Apple to the top 5 spot of desktop/laptop vendors.

Multiplying the units sold for Macs, iPads and iPhones to their premium prices results in a banner year for Apple. Its revenues have amounted to a staggering 182 billion dollars. Much more than the combined GDP of several small countries. Out of that 182 billion is a huge 39.5 billion dollars in profit. So what do these numbers mean for Tim Cook?

The success of a company depends on its leadership as well as its teamwork. And teamwork works when there is a strong individual the team can look up to. This means that Tim Cook has not crooked his way into his earnings. The man deserved every penny at least for this year for a style of leadership only Apple insiders would know about. But all eyes remain on Tim’s shoulders. Will Tim Cook continue to embody Steve Jobs’ ideals or will Apple go the way of the other CEO Steve appointed before? Hopefully not. Is Tim Cook up for another massive payday for 2015? That’s up to Tim and whatever he and his team cook up next.

Willow Smith & Lindsay Lohan Get Body Talk: Celebrity Gossip Roundup 2015

willow smith lindsay lohan gossip roundup 2015 images

For whatever reason, American’s are obsessed with the rich and famous. We have to know what they are wearing (or who), when they vacay and where, who they are dating and at what restaurant they just ate dinner. In part, it is the media’s fault for our nonstop lust to know the newest on Kimye or Bey and Jay. Nonetheless, we entertain their constant coverage and so they give it to us. With that, here is a round of some of the latest celebrity gossip, news and updates.

willow smith instagram scandal body 2015

Willow Smith

The youngest of the Will Smith gang has had her share of scandal and weirdness. Did I mention she’s only 14 years old? The latest on her has to do with the picture she posted to her Instagram account of her wearing a shirt with a naked woman’s torso on it that gave the illusion of Willow’s nipples showing. People are all up in arms about Willow Smith doing this and I can understand why. The girl is 14 and her parents are two of the most famous people in the world. She wants to get her own attention and make a name for herself, I get it. I do think that she goes a little too far in some of the things that she does. I know Will and Jada allow their children free expression, etc. but sometimes they need to step in and say, “No.” Is the nipple picture really that serious? I say yes because of the message that it sends to other girls her age.

lil wayne suing birdman scandal 2015 images

Lil Wayne and Birdman

Apparently there is a war raging between these two rappers after settlement talks broke down with Wayne suing his mentor for $8 million. This comes after Wayne opening dissed the label, Cash Money, a few months ago. He wants to be free of them and of Birdman’s control which probably has something to do with him withholding the release of Wayne’s new album. There is so much more to the story, I’m sure, that they are not telling us. A person doesn’t just hold back someone’s work just because they can. I am looking forward to seeing where the issue really lies as the story continues to unfold.

Stephen Collins

The dad of 7th Heaven fame has gotten some (only some) media scrutiny over the fact that he sexually abused three different girls between 1973-1994. We heard about it for a little bit and then it seemed to have vanished. Well last week, his marriage of 30 years to Faye Grant ended with the finalizing of their messy divorce. Now the thing that bothers me with this is that Collins admitted on tape (which the judge order all copies to be destroyed) that he did these things yet he has not had nearly the amount of outcry as Bill Cosby, who has not admitted to anything. In fact, Cosby has been pretty mum on his whole situation but that is all we seem to hear about. Furthermore, the judge ordered that the original copy of Collins’s confession be handed over to his lawyer and sealed for ten years. Wow. How did this man get a pass from the media from tearing down his rep? It must have something to do with melanin.

Lindsay Lohan

This chick just can’t seem to get a break. She recently posted a picture on Instagram of her in what looks to be a thong and a cropped turtleneck. Now of course, that is not the scandal. The strange thing about the pic and what seems to have people all up in arms is the fact that it looks horribly photoshopped. Like from her waistline to her butt and thighs, it is distorted. Looking at it for myself (and photoshopping my pictures at times in the past) I’d say it has definitely gone under the brush. Ugh, what’s wrong with these women with perfect bodies trying to make themselves more perfect? Get over yourself already and let us see who you really are.

Amber Rose

Speaking of perfect bodies, if there ever was one, this chick has it. From ass to the boob, Amber is on fire. She not too long ago posted a picture of her in a barely there G string monokini which pretty much left nothing to the imagination. I am all about flaunting what your momma gave you, but my question at the end of the day is why do you have to do it in that way? Is it that serious to be relevant that you have to post pictures of yourself naked (I mean she pretty much is) or pose on the cover of a magazine naked? I think it is the most grossly inaccurate thing a woman can do to show her independence or “feminism.” Amber boo you bad, but please go put some clothes on.

angela basset troubled by whitney houston movie 2015 images

Angela Bassett and the Whitney Movie

For the record, this movie was a hell of a lot better than that wack ass Aaliyah movie. With Angela Bassett behind it, an Oscar Nominee and Golden Globe winner, you kind of expected Whitney to be leaps and bounds above anything that Wendy Williams is behind (come on… it’s Wendy Williams). The actors where casted more accurately and the acting was okay too. My issue though is why was the movie made in the first place? I love Angela and I know that she was good friends with Whitney Houston, but why did she feel a movie about her life was needed this soon after she died? And why the hell make it a Lifetime Channel original movie? Her family was against it and I can understand why. A life as full, complicated and beloved as Whitney’s deserved to be told on the big screen. On this one, I think Angela got it wrong and should have left it alone.

Oh rich people and their rich people problems.

Michael Keaton’s BIRDMAN Shakes Up 2015 PGA & SAG Awards with Top Wins

michael keaton birdman sweeps sag pga awards 2015 images

Michael Keaton’s Birdman has proven it can fly after taking top prizes at the Producer’s Guild of America (PGA) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards this weekend. The dark comedy may not have gotten any awards for it’s cast members, it was happy to take the top prize anyway. Many know that one of the biggest signs of what film will win the Oscar for Best Picture comes from what film won the PGA Best Picture award.

Many were expecting Richard Linklater’s Boyhood to win top prize so this dark horse raced to the finish instead. Sometimes the Academy likes a dark horse, and this one picked up some serious speed after the awards ceremonies. The last time a PGA winner didn’t take home the Best Picture Oscar was back in 2006 when Little Miss Sunshine came out of left field to snatch it.

The Lego Movie which was pretty much ignored by the Academy Awards nominations, picked up one from the PGA for Producer Dan Lin.

Everyone’s favorite, Breaking Bad picked up its final trophy at the PGA’s while Orange Is the New Black continued receiving love from everyone. It will return in February. I thought it was odd that the amazing True Detective lost out at both awards, but now that Breaking Bad is out of the picture, next year should bode well for the dark drama. Fingers crossed this season can hold up to last years with the excellent team of Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey.

Here’s the full list below from both awards ceremonies:

Jesse Ventura Clears Up About AMERICAN SNIPER & Chris Kyle

jesse ventura with chris kyle for american sniper clearing up 2015

Jesse Ventura has always known how to make headlines, but when he sued Chris Kyle‘s estate for defamation over his portrayal in the book ‘American Sniper‘, the media gave him so headlines he wasn’t expecting. Mainly he was attacked for suing a poor widow and children, but the National Review reported that while Kyle claimed to have donated his books earning to Veteran’s Charities, it was more like only two percent went there.

It was these misconceptions that Ventura has been wanting to clear up. Even after winning the lawsuit, Anderson Cooper, Sarah Palin and Bill O’Reilly made rather chilly comments. Basically, Ventura was asking that the information in ‘American Sniper’ that was untrue about him be taken out and for Chris Kyle to publicly admit that it was untrue. Lawyers seemed to think that it would be easier to settle the case, but for anyone who has known the former Minnesota Governor any amount of time knows that he will stand firm when it comes to principle’s he believes in, including going after someone who has sullied your name.

As the box office weekend shows, American Sniper has hit a soft spot with Americans, so it’s understandable how the media and people thought Ventura was going rogue, but it doesn’t make it right. The film has pulled in over $200 million so it’s going to have people taking a closer look. Ventura also made a point of letting it be known that the book was a mix of fact and fiction alluding that the film is the same way. Below, you can see the seven untruths that AlterNet reported.

jesse ventura clears things up about american sniper and chris kyle

On his podcast, “We the people with Jesse Ventura,” the former governor gives an updated statement about American Sniper as the book-turned-movie came to theaters nationwide this past weekend.

Jesse Ventura explains there are still many “misconceptions” about his recent lawsuit win against the Chris Kyle estate:

“[One] of the grave misconceptions about this lawsuit: I was taking money from a widow and her children — no I wasn’t. Her expenses were paid entirely from a giant insurance company. The Kyle family hasn’t suffered one dime of monetary loss,” Jesse Ventura says.

“My lawsuit was to clear my name and show this was a fabrication and a lie,” he continues. He explains that the lawsuit was over what Scruff Face, the character Kyle depicted as Jesse Ventura in American Sniper, said against the Navy SEALS and the military.

“My lawsuit was originally started because this person in the chapter, Scruff Face, committed treason. The chapter took the book to number one [on the New York Times bestsellers list] and ultimately got it the movie deal. The point is, this was fabricated. It never happened,” Ventura says. “I would never say anything like that against my own unit or the military itself.”

During his podcast statement, Jesse Ventura explains he went to settlements “four or five times” before going to trial.  All he asked was for the publisher to remove the Scruff Face chapter and for Chris Kyle to publicly admit to the lie; they refused.

“The only thing I was offered was money,” said Ventura. “I refused to settle because to me it wasn’t about money, it was about the truth…they would do nothing to restore my reputation…the only way to stop [the lie] was to bring a lawsuit.”

He also addresses the monetary outcome of the trial: “The jury gave me what they felt I was damaged. The majority of that money is going to my attorney. Again, this will cost the Kyle family nothing for the lie that was written about me.”

And what does Jesse Ventura think about the book being a nonfiction account of a soldier’s experiences, both home and abroad?

“The book is not a true story. The book had fabrication and fiction written into it. [The Scruff Face] chapter was absolutely fabricated.”

Jesse Ventura ends his statement by thanking his fans for standing by him through the trial: “You don’t know how much it means to me. I’ve lost friendships over this, I’ve lost things very close to me over this, my life will never be the same because of this, and I can only state I am a complete innocent victim of the whole thing. I don’t know why I was thrown under the bus.”

Here are AlterNet’s 7 heinous lies about American Sniper:

1. The Film Suggests the Iraq War Was In Response To 9/11: One way to get audiences to unambiguously support Kyle’s actions in the film is to believe he’s there to avenge the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The movie cuts from Kyle watching footage of the attacks to him serving in Iraq, implying there is some link between the two.

2. The Film Invents a Terrorist Sniper Who Works For Multiple Opposing Factions: Kyle’s primary antagonist in the film is a sniper named Mustafa. Mustafa is mentioned in a single paragraph in Kyle’s book, but the movie blows him up into an ever-present figure and Syrian Olympic medal winner who fights for both Sunni insurgents in Fallujah and the Shia Madhi army.

3. The Film Portrays Chris Kyle as Tormented By His Actions: Multiple scenes in the movie portray Kyle as haunted by his service. One of the film’s earliest reviews praised it for showing the “emotional torment of so many military men and women.” But that torment is completely absent from the book the film is based on. In the book, Kyle refers to everyone he fought as “savage, despicable” evil. He writes, “I only wish I had killed more.” He also writes, “I loved what I did. I still do. If circumstances were different – if my family didn’t need me – I’d be back in a heartbeat. I’m not lying or exaggerating to say it was fun. I had the time of my life being a SEAL.” On an appearance on Conan O’Brien’s show he laughs about accidentally shooting an Iraqi insurgent. He once told a military investigator that he doesn’t “shoot people with Korans. I’d like to, but I don’t.”

4. The Real Chris Kyle Made Up A Story About Killing Dozens of People In Post-Katrina New Orleans: Kyle claimed that he killed 30 people in the chaos of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, a story Louisiana writer Jarvis DeBerry calls “preposterous.”  It shows the sort of mentality post-war Kyle had, but the claim doesn’t appear in the film.

5. The Real Chris Kyle Fabricated A Story About Killing Two Men Who Tried To Carjack Him In Texas: Kyle told numerous people a story about killing two alleged carjackers in Texas. Reporters tried repeatedly to verify this claim, but no evidence of it exists.

6. Chris Kyle Was Successfully Sued For Lying About the Former Governor of Minnesota: Kyle alleged that former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura defamed Navy SEALs and got into a fight with him at a local bar. Ventura successfully sued Kyle for the passage in his book, and a jury awarded him $1.845 million.

7. Chris Kyle’s Family Claimed He Donated His Book Proceeds To Veterans’ Charity, But He Kept Most Of The Profits: The National Review debunks the claim that all proceeds of his book went to veterans’ charities. Around 2 percent – $52,000 – went to the charities while the Kyles pocketed $3 million.

Microsoft HoloLens: Just Another Gimmick Or Real Innovation?

microsoft hololens not just a gimmick but innovation images 2015

(Tony) Stark raving mad is the first impression of many to Microsoft’s new holographic technology, known as Windows Holographic. This technology was announced in their recent Windows 10 conference to the surprise of its attendees. The technology is similar to what can be seen in Iron Man films and Agents of Shield TV series where users can view and manipulate holographic objects. However, only the user can see the holograms around him/her through the HoloLens headset. It’s 3D at its finest and a new interface paradigm which totally trumps Google Glass, Oculus Rift and other AR headsets currently available. Future users can play out their Iron Man/SHIELD fantasies or actually do some serious work.

microsoft hololens hot chick fingering air bubbles 2015

It came as a real surprise since there has hardly been any news that Microsoft has been working on its own augmented reality technology. Microsoft is not known for keeping secrets and often leaks out information as faux advertising. The Windows Holographic platform and hardware is something totally new to the tech community. The headset is not as bulky and restricting as Oculus Rift and even looks more stylish, though not as slim as Google Glass. This could perhaps be Microsoft’s third success in their foray in hardware since the Xbox and Surface Pro tablets. Microsoft’s Surface Pro tablets may be the best hybrids out there by design except they have yet to go mainstream. Question is, can this technology go more mainstream the Surface Pro and actually take off before Google Glass does? Is this an attempt by Microsoft to finally trump Apple and Google and come back as the top technology company?

The technology is still in development but since Microsoft had the guts to show it prematurely, it may be on its way and may be released alongside the final build of Windows 10, the platform on which Windows Holographic will be working on. The technology has potential in the fields of engineering, entertainment, art, gaming, education and even medicine and may indeed bring Microsoft back into the forefront. Although not exactly new since AR headsets have been around for a few years, the way it was presented and how it can be truly useful has gotten the world’s attention better than Steve Ballmer’s onstage antics. People who have seen and experienced the demo are already excited as the write-ups of those who were actually present might tell you*. Windows 10 is expected late summer and the world holds its breath.

The Lens

If the eyes are windows to the world, then Microsoft has again redefined the term ‘windows’ since the last time it did when Windows 3.0 went mainstream.  Windows Holographic can be experienced through the Microsoft HoloLens headset. The HoloLens is equipped with multiple sensors, spatial sound and Microsoft’s Holographic Processing Unit or HPU.

The Demo

Microsoft opened up with a video of the Windows Holographic technology showing the lens, and how it can be applied. The video showed persons interacting with their environment showing screens, icons and buttons around the user. Users can watch videos practically anywhere on virtual screens and might even have a hand in home automation. Users are shown collaborating with each other through on-screen video calls through Skype and another user is shown playing with Minecraft blocks in a living room. The video was quite compelling and then further supported by a live demo of Holo Studio, a 3D modelling app where they demonstrated building a quad copter model.

The Apps and App Store

The apps currently featured for Windows Holographic include the aforementioned Holo Studio where users can create 3D models in a 3D environment created by HoloLens. The app can actually be used to 3D print its output into working models.

Minecraft’s purchase by Microsoft may actually have been more strategic than previously thought. Windows Holographic featured a fully 3D interactive version called Holo Builder being played in the demo video. Minecraft alone is a truly immersive experience for its millions of users but with the addition of Windows Holographic, Holo Builder can actually usher gamers into a whole new world.

microsoft hololens not just a gimmick

Onsight is an app developed in collaboration with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory which will take users to virtual simulations of places much like Star Trek’s holodeck. Microsoft’s demo takes users to Mars besides the Curiosity Rover. The simulation was taken from thousands of images stitched together to create the virtual environment. Insight could allow multiple users to interact with each other onsite or off site.

microsoft hololens brings ease to life 2015 images

A different app also shows two users communicating on fixing some piping. One user can actually instruct the other by drawing lines and arrows around the piping which they both see. This actually makes off site collaboration work better in various fields and shows that Microsoft Holographic a lot of potential. Microsoft has openly invited AR developers of Glass, Oculus and Magic Leap to come aboard to seriously create an app base probably to compensate for the shortcomings of the Windows 8/Windows Phone 8 app store.

microsoft hololens brings virtual reality to life 2015

So is Windows Holographic just another gimmick? Microsoft seems serious about getting this technology into mainstream. Openly inviting developers is a good indication and after seeing the demos of what Windows Holographic and the HoloLens can do, it’s very possible. Windows Holographic has the potential to improve communications, especially in the field of business collaboration. Coupled with the Xbox, it can innovate gaming as well. If Microsoft plays its cards right and plays it quick enough, it could recapture its place on top of Apple and Google.

BRING IT! Season 3 Recap: Miami Heat Is Back & Hot To Win

bring it season 3 recap miami heat is back 2015 images

You know how they say a little dose of healthy competition is good for you (or something like that)? Well I for one am a firm believer that that is a very true statement. Competition helps you to be disciplined, to strive for greatness and to personally set high goals for yourself. It is the foundation of so many ventures in our world and we would not be who we are as a country without it. No, this is not a piece on the American work ethic or how to get what you want out of life.

Last night we saw the season three premiere of Bring it, a Lifetime Network reality TV show that “shines a spotlight on the elite world of hip-hop majorette competitions,” and these girls are the epitome of what it means to be competitive. It was cut throat, entertaining and with it taking place in Mississippi, it was country ghetto fabulous.

bring it lifetime show 2015 images

Bring It is very interesting to me. The thing that stood out first and the most is the dynamic between the coach and the mothers. It is very… weird… unheard of even. I say that because Coach Dianna Williams, a.k.a Miss. D, does not hold back when she talks to these girls. And more than that, she does not hold back when she talks to their mothers either.

tawantza banging on miss ds door in bring it season 3 2015

Case in point, in the opening scene, Miss. D and the girls, The Dancing Dolls, are prepping for their first competitions of the season against the YCDT Supastarz of Miami, FL, the newcomers from last year that beat their asses. During practice, one of the girls, Zatia, could not keep up with the rest of the team. Her mother, who proclaims that her daughter is the next coming of Beyoncé, does not like how Miss. D does her. When the girls where doing a routine and Zatia could not obviously keep up, she “cut her.” Now the moms are not allowed in the practice. In fact, they have to wait outside the whole time. Tawantza sees that her daughter has been cut and she starts banging, not hitting, BANGING on the door. The other mothers look at her like “oooooh yous in trouble now.” Miss. D comes out asking, “Who is banging on my door.” And that’s where it gets heated. Tawantza says that her daughter should not be cut and that she is just doing what she learned (implying that if she messed up that’s because Miss. D is fucking up). Well Miss. D quickly puts her in her place saying that it is Tawantza’s fault she is messing up and if she “has eyes” she can see that for herself. They go back and forth and the scene ends with… gasp… Zatia being cut from the team all together. Like kicked off, don’t come back, bye, bye cut from the team. Of course her mother is not having this and vows that they will be back.

bring it moms watch tawantza bang on miss ds door 2015 images

Here, the other mothers just sat back and watched. None of them took up for Tawantza and her daughter and I thought this too was interesting. Not often do you see black women give up their “oh no you didn’ts” and neck rollings to another black women who speaks to them and their children any way she wants.

“I make the goddamn rules,” Miss D told Tawantza before they left. The other mothers just stood on the other side quiet. Hmmmm.

bring it coach tracy aka grace jones 2015 images

We saw a lot from the other team as well. Led by Coach Tracy, these girls are fit, pretty and very Miami. She whips them into shape on a daily basis with blurpees every practice and pounding into their heads how much better they are than the others and they need to “Bring it.”

We get a peek into what Miss D and the girls are doing for the competition and she has a whole elaborate dance routine planned which involves the baby dolls (the second and third grade aged girls) and a flamboyant Grace Jones, Tracy look alike played by one of her male choreographers.

miss d and her bring it girls for lifetime dance 2015

On this episode we also got to look into Kayla’s life. As the captain of the Dancing Dolls, she holds a big responsibility. I will point out here that she is not the fittest or the smallest of the girls. In fact, she could stand to lay off the burgers and do some planks. But that aside, it is refreshing to see her drive, her dedication and her dancing. The girl can move and has a big heart.

One of the major scenes from last night was the meeting before the meeting. Coach Tracy and her girls actually showed up to the Dancing Dolls studio unannounced. The mothers saw them getting off that damn bus and again where like “oooooh ya’lls in trouble now.” One of them ran and told Miss D who came out with the girls to confront them. Tracy said something about their spot being “cute” and was then immediately told to vacate the premises. But before she did, a call and response type thing happened where she said “Is she mad” and her girls as one big choir said “or nah” and pranced off.

This scene in particular really made me think about how we raise our girls to be petty and catty. First of all, I think the whole damn thing is catty. I mean these girls are working their butts to the bones to beat the other team and these coaches are treating it like it’s the damn NBA championship. The way that these women interact shows their girls that it is acceptable behavior and I hate to see them in their Divine Nine organizations at their HBCU’s one day.

bring it miami heat girls build human house that falls 2015 images

The two coaches really talked a lot of trash to each other and to the cameras and the time to “show and prove” finally came. The girls battled each other and it was all good… until the Superstarz went to do their lift. Needless to say, they fell. While some of the Dancing Dolls moms cheered, others gasp in horror and motherly concern. Coach Tracy screamed from the sidelines, “keep going, keep going.” The Dancing Dolls finale went off just as planned and they were awarded that well deserved trophy. So um yea, Coach Tracy had to eat all of her words.

dance moms could learn from bring it lifetime show 2015

Bring It, for the most part, is probably one of the more positive reality shows on TV today. We will definitely see what Miss Dee and their girls have in store for next week and the weeks to come. Miss D has no problem she didn’t come from a pretty past as she did porn movies to support herself at one point, and she works really hard to make sure her girls don’t follow down her earlier path. She instills in them that live isn’t just one big handout, it’s working hard for what you want rather than let other people beat you down to feel your not worthy of your dreams. Dance Moms could learn many valuable lessons from these girls and Miss D.

A Miscarriage Of Justice For Tiny Doo & First Amendment Rights

tiny doo facing life in prison for miscarriage of justice rap lyrics 2015

“It’s a conspiracy, it’s a travesty.” Fuck no, it’s a damn shame. A shame that the country we live in today would go as far as putting a man, a black man, in prison over some rap lyrics. Yes rap lyrics!

It hurts my heart that the apparent eradication of black men in America is winning. It hurts my heart even more that my beloved home state (California) is the latest battle ground in the war against our men. San Diego based rapper Tiny Doo is facing unprecedented and unmerited time in prison (25 years to be exact) over lyrics in his music that “glorifies gangs” and talks about other violent things.

Under the California Penal Code 182.5, it makes participating in criminal street gang activities, having knowledge of street gang criminal activity or benefiting from such activity a felony. And it’s the last part that has landed Tiny Doo in his current situation. He is facing nine counts of criminal street gang conspiracy because the damn prosecutors are alleging that a rash of shootings in the city in 2013 lead to increased stature and “respect” for Tiny and 14 other gang members.

These prosecutors are reaching more than a hiker trying to grab hold to the ledge of the cliff he’s falling off of. It is unbelievable to me that these people would even spend time and waste the money of California tax payers (we already don’t have any) for this bull shit.

It is bull shit! Tiny Doo has no criminal record and can’t be linked to any criminal activity outside of some lyrics from his album, “No Safety” which say, “Ain’t no safety on this pistol I’m holding.” Even with that, there is no proof nor is anyone suggesting whatsoever that he has pulled a trigger

What we have here is a young black man who is rapping about a very real and damaging struggle in the black community. As he told CNN, Tiny Doo, whose real name is Brandon Duncan, is just “painting a picture of urban street life” with his lyrics, nothing more. Hell I grew up in the poor neighborhoods of Los Angeles and the projects of Tennessee and there is a lot of shit I can rap or write about. People vandalized our cars, kicked our doors in and more. I heard about people beating folks up and killing people. That kind of shit went on all the damn time. But just because I have knowledge or hear rumors about something and turn around and put it on paper does not implicate me as a suspect.

tiny doo miscarriage of justice first amendment for brandon duncan images 2015

Why is America so hell bent on destroying our black men? Maybe it is the same reasons that they push for black women to continue their reliance on welfare, or why they continue to show all disregard for black lives – They want us gone. And if you can destroy the men by killing them, feminizing them and devaluing them, you can get the ones who they are meant to lead and protect to do the same thing, thus causing the fundamental, human cornerstone of respect to be abolished. No respect, no concern for life and no concern for life leads to reckless behavior.

In the case of Duncan, they are intimidating him to stop speaking; to stop speaking about black experiences and expression.

“I would love to continue to rap,” he said. “But these people have you scared to do anything around here.”

The dummies, I mean prosecutors, say that it is more than his lyrics that they are using against him. They supposedly have social media posts that he still has gang affiliations. Hmph, I had it right the first time- dummies because that shit is so irrelevant.

The fact of the matter is that Duncan’s first Amendment rights are under attack in this situation. This man has every right to say what he wants. How many times over the past decades have rappers like NWA and others said things that should have landed them on death row (not the record label)?

Not only are these prosecutors trying to take away Duncan’s right, they are trying to warn other societal “deviants” that you need to watch what you are rapping about. They are trying to send a message that says, “That you shouldn’t glorify or glamorize gang activity.”

These people are going to find any way that they can to silent black people by making an example of someone just to show others what could happen to them. It is an effective way to get their message across. I recently got the chance to see Selma, an amazing and heart wrenching film. Ava DuVernay did a great job directing this masterpiece (too bad the Academy couldn’t see that, but that’s another post for another time). One of the character portrayals in the movie is that of the young civil rights activist Jimmie Lee Jackson of Alabama. He, along with his mother and grandfather, were peacefully protesting when a fight broke out with the police. They ran to a local café to hide. The police chased them, beat them and then shot him for no reason. During that time, the tension between Governor George Wallace and the black leaders over black citizens’ right to vote was heated. It is speculated that police were told to do what was needed to show the negras whose boss. And thus, Jimmie Lee Jackson was struck down at the tender age of 26.

Jimmie was made an example in the harshest way and now the same thing is happening Tiny Doo. There is no proof that Duncan has done anything wrong and without real evidence that can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt, those prosecutors are just wasting time and showing the world their true colors.

Mark Cuban Cries Foul On NBA All-Star Fan Voting & He’s Got A Good Point

mark cuban cries foul on nba all star fan voting 2015

Mark Cuban made headlines again this past week for his open criticism of the NBA All-Star Game fan voting. The outspoken owner of the Dallas Mavericks came out to tell the NBA that they need to eliminate the fan voting for the annual All-Star Game, citing the lead vote-getter Steph Curry’s total of 1.5 million votes as “embarrassing.”

“Fans are allowed to vote more than once, right? That’s embarrassing. To think that we couldn’t get people to vote enough times. No one even tried to hack it. That’s how bored they are,” Cuban said. “When the number of voters isn’t enough to even get anybody to notice…that means basically .01 percent of NBA fans cared enough to vote.”

Cuban may have a bad rap for things he’s said in the past; however, he certainly does have a point here. After all, fans are allowed to vote as many times as they want; and only five players received more than one million votes (Steph Curry, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Kobe Bryant, and James Harden).

This is extremely low for a sport with an international fan base. Major League Baseball holds a fan voting for its All-Star Game as well, and this past year the top vote-getter was Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista with almost 5.9 million votes. Steph Curry wouldn’t have even been a reserve on the MLB All-Star team with 1.5 million.

The NBA did have an explanation for the low totals: the league claimed that balloting was actually up 28 percent over last season, but the votes were much more spread out because for the first time ever every player was eligible to be voted into the All-Star Game.

Cuban suggests that not only should the coaches and general managers be selecting the teams but also 14 players should make the squad instead of the current 12.

Sure, the fan voting is a great way to get fans involved and let them try and send their favorite players to the big game; however, the fans clearly want no part of this system, and the ones that do continually vote players like Kobe Bryant into a starting position over young superstars like James Harden who have done more to deserve the honor.

It is important to note here that the fan voting is only for the starting lineups of each Conference. The coaches select the reserves for each Conference (two guards, three frontcourt players, and two wildcard players) based on each player’s stats, his overall impact on his team, and the team’s overall record and performance.

So, it is possible that Cuban is just mad that Dirk Nowitzki and Rajon Rondo won’t be starting in the All-Star Game; but at the same time there are a few other players that the fans seem to miss consistently. For example, once again Tim Duncan is not in the starting lineup for the Western Conference despite his amazing performance so far this season and his track record of overall excellence (including two straight NBA Finals appearances and an NBA Championship last season). Also, as mentioned earlier, Harden was not voted into the starting lineup despite leading the NBA in points per game. Obviously, Kobe Bryant is a great player; but he just doesn’t have the stats to warrant a starting position anymore. In this case, Bryant will be out for the rest of the season leaving the spot open to Harden.

Aside from the Kobe Bryant debacle and the low voter turnout, the fans did select very deserving players for the starting lineup. The New Orleans Pelicans young superstar and former first overall pick Anthony Davis was the top Western Conference frontcourt vote-getter and one of the five players with over a million votes. Last season Davis made it into the All-Star Weekend in New Orleans only because of the injury to Bryant; however, this season Davis is one of the top players in the NBA in scoring, and the only one of the top ten points per game leaders in the NBA to also make the top ten list for field goal percentage. Although the Pelicans are far from a big market team, Davis is finally getting the recognition and the credit he deserves for his work in New Orleans.

Personally, I don’t see the NBA getting rid of the voting system for the All-Star Game anytime soon. Sure, the fans might not turn out by the millions to vote for their favorite players; but at the same time it lets the fans have some say in what’s going on in the NBA. Getting rid of the voting system would lead to more criticism of the players selected and not selected, and it would probably outrage fans as well. So, at the end of the day the NBA is better off letting the fans vote, even if they don’t have the turnouts that the NFL and MLB have for their All-Star games.

Windows 10 Unveiled: Our Review

windows 10 unveiled recap review images 2015

Microsoft recently unveiled Windows 10, a straight jump from Windows 8, skipping over 9 – probably to show how advanced and forward this update is going to be. The unveiling event in San Francisco gave the world a decent idea of what Windows 10 will be like. One thing that was clear from the unveiling is that Microsoft worked really hard on this. The upgrade will not only appeal to those that were dissatisfied by Windows 8 but also everyone else. Here’s all that we gathered from the event about the new Windows 10.

windows 10 new features 2015 images

What’s New

The new features of any update are highly anticipated and Windows 10 does not disappoint. We came to see many new features and also some that were removed in Windows 8 but were extremely missed by the general users.

windows 10 unveiled project spartan replaced internet explorer 2015

Spartan:  A new lightweight browser that is offered by Microsoft is Spartan for Windows 10. People initially thought it was a name for Internet Explorer 12 but it is a new browser altogether with a clean interface and quick features. All the same, IE 11 will still be a browser alongside Spartan, so the features of Spartan will not match Internet Explorer’s features. People also refer to Spartan as “competition” for Google Chrome, because of its great features like saving articles for reading offline, integrating with other browsers, etc. But to say that Spartan is copying Chrome stands untrue as there is no likeness to Chrome up till now apart from the traditional browser basics.

windows 10 start menu back unveiled 2015

Start Menu: The Start menu is back and is better than ever! The Metro-style Start menu that was in Windows 8 that was only decent for touch screen laptops and Windows mobiles was one of the major reasons why Windows 8 became a disappointment. However, the new Windows has gotten back the traditional left-corner Start button and left side Start menu but it is integrated with a half Metro-style menu as well. Users get the best of both worlds and can add their favorite options and apps in the half Metro-style quick menu.

windows 10 vitural desktops images 2015

Virtual Desktops: Use more than one desktop and personalize it as you please. You can create one desktop for home and one for office and switch whenever you want to.

Up to 4 Apps on Screen: You can use 4 apps at once on one screen. You even have the option to open more than four apps, but if all four are evenly sized and covering a quarter of the screen, you can only use four apps at once. Windows 10 will also smartly provide a suggestion as to how big all 4 apps should be.

windows 10 universal store apps 2015 images

Windows Store Apps: Windows Store apps were previously full-screen, ideal for tablets but not all that great for non-touch devices or laptops. Now, the traditional name border will accompany all apps along with the Minimize, Maximize, and Close buttons.

Task View: To provide a better way to switch between apps is the Task View that allows you to see full thumbnails of opened and minimized apps and you can switch between them as you like.

windows 10 unveiled recap 2015 images

Additionally, from Windows 10, we can expect:

Interface Changes: Windows 10 might just become flatter, as is the trend. This means narrowed window borders and flatter icons and an overall clean look.

Removal of Metro-style Menu: That menu was a big letdown for Windows 8 so it will not be surprising to see to it completely gone. It is half integrated in the Start menu but there might be an option to remove it completely.

Lots of New Tweaks: One thing’s for sure: there is much going on for Windows 10 and only actually using it will tell new and small as well as major tweaks.

Top 10 Fantasy Football Developments For 2015

top 10 fantasy football developments 2015 images peyton manning

With the 2014-2015 NFL season coming to a close, fantasy owners are already looking forward to next season. Although Super Bowl XLIX has yet to be played, there have already been multiple developments in the NFL that will certainly shake up the world of fantasy football in the 2015-2016 NFL season. Everything from “Deflate-gate” to salary cap issues will prove to have some effect on next year’s fantasy football scene, but here’s a list of the Top 10 developments that will impact fantasy football in the future:

victor cruz coming back to nfl for fantasy football 2015

The return of Victor Cruz: With Odell Beckham Jr. having a fantastic rookie season and really stepping up in the absence of the injured Cruz, no doubt he will be a high-value player in 2015. However, ODB didn’t get to play much with Cruz this past season; and having both on the field at the same time, although good for the New York Giants, might hurt both of their fantasy owners.

leveon bell may be suspended nfl 2015

Le’Veon Bell’s possible suspension: After being charged with possession of marijuana and driving under the influence, Bell could face up to a four game suspension under the new collective bargaining agreement. All this should be is move Bell from a possible Number One overall pick to a late first or early second round pick. Bell is the best points-per-game fantasy back in the NFL, so he’ll have no problem finding a home in the world of fantasy football.

demarco murray free agent nfl 2015 images

DeMarco Murray’s free agency: After leading the NFL in rushing yards this past season with 1,845, Murray will be a free agent this offseason. The big questions now are does Murray stay with the Dallas Cowboys and is he able to stay healthy in 2015. Murray tends to be injury prone, so drafting him first round could easily come back to bite fantasy owners.

montee ball with ronnie hillman nfl denver broncos return 2015

The return of Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman: C.J. Anderson did fantastic this season despite being the 3rd string running back at the beginning of the year, and he will most likely be the Denver Broncos starting back in 2015. Ball was a second round draft pick in most leagues last season, but he failed miserably to live up to the expectations. Hillman is a great runner. With all three healthy, it will be interesting to see where they go in the drafts.

marshawn lynch done with nfl seattle seahawks fantasy football predictions 2015

Is Marshawn Lynch finally finished?: Every year the Seattle Seahawks say that they’re done with Lynch and that he will not be with the team the following season, but every year he comes back. Lynch is arguably one of the best running backs in the NFL, but is this the year they finally replace him with a younger, cheaper back?

carlos hyde takes over frank gore nfl san francisco 49ers fantasy football 2015

Carlos Hyde over Frank Gore: With the new coaching staff coming in and his 32nd birthday coming up in May, Gore has probably played his last game with the San Francisco 49ers. As a result, his backup Carlos Hyde will now be the work horse in the Niners offense. The 49ers have been a top-five rushing offense each of the last three seasons, so taking Hyde with a 3rd or 4th round pick could prove extremely beneficial.

josh gordon off nfl seattle seahawks fantasy football predictions 2015

Josh Gordon’s future in Cleveland: The Cleveland Browns seem to be tired of their star wide receiver who can’t seem to stay out of drug trouble off the field. The Kansas City Chiefs, St. Louis Rams, and Oakland Raiders could all be possible landing spots, which would affect both Gordon’s value and Johnny Manziel’s back in Cleveland.

mark ingram staying with nfl new orleans saints fantasy football 2015

Mark Ingram staying in New Orleans: The former Heisman Trophy winner announced that he would like to stay with the New Orleans Saints, but with all the cap room issues in New Orleans this may be easier said than done. Either way, Ingram had a fantastic season in 2014; but going to a team that focuses more heavily on the run game may be beneficial for his fantasy owners.

russell wilson andrew luck huge paydays nfl fantasy football 2015

Russell Wilson and Andrew Luck’s pay days: Rumor has it that Wilson and Luck are due for huge pay days. In fact, Luck is supposedly going to receive a $140 million contract; and the Seahawks announced that they will make Wilson the highest paid player in the NFL. The bottom line is, if these teams pay their quarterbacks these ridiculous figures the rest of the team will suffer. Contracts like these could easily ruin both franchises.

petyon manning returning to denver broncos 2015 season nfl

Peyton Manning’s return in 2015: We all know what the best quarterback in NFL history is able to do when he is healthy. If Manning returns to the Denver Broncos this will certainly be his final season, so he will be playing his heart out. If his numbers are 1,000 yards less than 2013 he’d still be the top fantasy quarterback in the NFL.

Things I Would Prefer Watching Over KEEPING UP WITH THE KARDASHIANS Season 10

things i would prefer than watching keeping up with the kardashians images 2015

Keeping Up With the Kardashians” is one of the worst reality shows on TV, which is quite a statement. Reality TV is chocked full of some of the worst humans I can imagine. But the Kardashian show is a new level of untalented, over dramatic, uninteresting, yet somehow successful characters. Being easy to hate is just as good for a reality show as it is having lovable characters I guess. It creates publicity and fake drama to keep the poor audience watching. I for one have never watched more than a few seconds at a time of this slimefest of a program. Here is a long list of things I would prefer to watching any or all episodes of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians“. Feel free to use this list to save your IQ points if you find yourself about to sit down on the couch and let waves of stupidity wash over you from your big screen.

keeping up with the kardashians season 10 legal problems

– I would watch a singular episode of “Breaking Bad” on an endless loop before watching the best episode of the Kardashians. Seeing greatness on screen, even repeatedly, would be better than watching unimportant people prance around doing basically nothing for 30 minutes.

– I would watch a presidential debate, and I hate politics. Having several political liars on stage simultaneously would be hard for me to watch. But I would bite the bullet and endure it in lieu of any Kardashian “plot”.

– I would translate an entire episode of Honey Boo Boo for folks who can’t understand the mom on that horrific show. I would do this work for free to give the poor person tasked with that job a day off, and if it was between that and watching the Kardashians.

kanye west disappearing from keeping up with the kardashians season 10

– I would write a thousand word piece on Bruce Jenner, the athlete, for free to avoid their show. I feel sorry for this guy. How he got mixed up with this freakish crew, I cannot fathom. I feel like some human rights group should sweep in to protect him from his family.

– I would really go into dark territory and listen to a Kayne West album before checking out even the best Kardashian episode. I hate Kanye West and I wish I could come up with a stronger word for hate. I would not enjoy listening to his music, but I feel like my mind would go numb or put up some kind of mental block after a few minutes to protect my psyche. This choice is one of the few options that Kanye’s music would be a choice for me. If anyone reading this is a Kanye fan, you should re-evaluate your life and your values. Though, if you like the guy, you are likely a bad person as well. In that case, carry on.

– I would rather sit through a reading of “War and Peace” by the nearly illiterate Floyd Mayweather. This guy is a disgusting beater of women so it would be hard to stomach his voice for very long. But it would be amusing to hear him taking on a huge book and mangling the English language.

– I am no fan of baseball but I would take in a full game instead of checking out the K’s reality show. I am sure I would fall asleep around the 4th inning so I would need someone by my side to keep me awake for the full game. Baseball is boring but at least it is not fake.

– Re-enacting every scene from “Fear Factor” would be a daunting task and probably kill me ultimately. But I would take my chances with that versus Kim and the gang.

– I would be taking my life into my own hands, but I would fight Ronda Rousey. I am confident I would get put in an armbar rather quickly, but I would gladly tap before having my arm ripped out of socket. This scenario is not so bad considering I would have some physical contact with Ronda Rousey even if it was short lived and she would be trying to injure me.

– Instead of spending 30 minutes with the Kardashians, I would prefer to sit front row at a Kevin Hart stand up show and get clowned. This one would hurt emotionally but I would recover eventually. A sit down with the Kardashians might scar me for life.

– I’d watch each and every one of Tyler Perry’s flicks. I would need someone to tell me when I got to the end of the list as I would be unable to tell the difference from one film to the next.

kourtney kardashian giving kim bikini wax hair 2015

– Having lunch with an arrogant, overbearing, and hypocritical character would suck. But I would still prefer this lunch with Roger Goodell over the alternative.

– Waiting in line for the new Iphone 6 with a pile of Apple fanboys and girls would ruin my day. However, even these annoying people are not as bad as watching a family of pseudo celebrities pretend to be interesting. At least the fanboys and gals are actually doing something. The Kardashians are busy deciding what to eat for lunch, looking at themselves in mirrors, and drumming up faux drama to perpetuate their “careers”.

– I would read 50 Facebook posts describing what my friends are having for dinner….with photos. This would be a huge burden for me since this information is totally useless. I am not sure why people post these mundane “activities”. These posts should make Zuckerberg ashamed that he even created Facebook. Reality TV should give the same shame to the inventor of TV.

– I would interview 100 lottery players to try to understand their “system” for picking daily cash 3 numbers. These folks who do “number workouts” truly believe they can beat a system that uses random numbers with the odds stacked against them. I am sure my brain would need a week or so to come back from these interviews, but I would be OK eventually. My IQ would be irrevocably lowered if I took on a showing of the Kardashians.

Now catch a sneak of Season 10’s Keeping Up With the Kardashian and let the drama continue!

NBA All-Star Game 2015 Team Selection Review

0

It’s about half way through the NBA season, which means it’s time for the 2015 All-Star Game in New York. Last season the big story in the voting was how an injured Kobe Bryant was selected as a Western Conference starter despite playing only the first few weeks of the season, snubbing Anthony Davis. Kobe did eventually withdraw from the game, and Davis earned his first trip to the game in place of the 5 time NBA Champ.

This season Davis had no problem earning a Western Conference starting position on his own this season. With 1,369,911 votes Davis led all Western Conference frontcourt player. In fact, Davis finished third overall in the voting falling behind only LeBron James and Steph Curry.

Bryant actually made headlines again. Having recently torn his rotator cuff and being declared out for the season, Bryant (who finished fourth overall in the voting this season) will have to once again surrender his starting position in the West. Bryant narrowly edged out the Houston Rockets superstar James Harden for the starting position in the West, but perhaps the fans voted wrong. Although Kobe is certainly having a great season, Harden is the current league leader in points per game; and if that weren’t enough, his team is actually is playoff contention. The voters are definitely far from infallible. For example, Jeremy Lin finished in the top 10 vote-getters for the Western Conference guards…

The biggest news story, however, from this year’s voting was Steph Curry’s first place finish over LeBron James. After years of being the top vote-getter by a landslide, The King has been dethroned by the young superstar shooting specialist from the Golden State Warriors—and rightfully so. Sure, LeBron is still arguably the best player in the world; but at 23-20 the Cleveland Cavaliers only have a 1.5 game lead over the Milwaukee Bucks for the 5th seed in the Eastern Conference. The Warriors on the other hand have the best overall record in the NBA at 34-6, and they have a comfortable 5 game lead over the Memphis Grizzlies for the number one seed in the very competitive Western Conference.

Speaking of the Grizzlies, Marc Gasol will be starting for the Western Conference opposite his brother Pau Gasol who joined the Chicago Bulls over the offseason and earned a starting spot for the Eastern Conference. Pau, the elder of the two brothers, has had a phenomenal 13th career season as a member of the Bulls. Through 41 games so far Pau is averaging a double-double with 18.6 points per game and 11.5 rebounds per game.

The game this year should certainly be interesting with multiple new faces in the game. In fact, for Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol, John Wall, and Kyle Lowry this will be their first-ever NBA All-Star Game starts, not to mention Lowry’s first-ever All-Star Game in general.

But, for every starter there is a notable snub. This season the two biggest snubs in the West were (by far) Tim Duncan and Kevin Durant. For Duncan, apparently being one of the greatest players of the decade means nothing to fans anymore. Five NBA Championships with the most recent being last season doesn’t seem to be enough for voters. Durant’s situation is a little more understandable. After missing most of the first half of the season, it’s hard to expect a starting spot on the All-Star team; however, if Durant had made it no one would have batted an eye.

The East also has its fair share of snubs. The biggest surprise is Carmelo Anthony. At 7-36 it is far from the Knicks year (or his year for that matter), yet because of his name he made it in over Al Horford or Paul Millsap. The Hawks have the best record in the East, so they deserve some representation in the East’s starting lineup this season. Sure, neither of these guys have the individual stats that are normally possessed by All-Star starters, but with a 35-8 team record (28 more wins than the Knicks) one of these players deserves a spot over the struggling Anthony.
