Week 7 Results My 2015 Fantasy Football Blueprint: Watch Me Turn $100 into $0

week 7 results my fantasy football 2015 imagesIf you have been paying close attention to my fantasy football blueprint over the past six weeks, you know it’s been an up and down process. You win some, and you lose some like they say.

Well, week seven was a bit on the flat line side of things. No, my little bankroll isn’t dead, I just basically broke even this past week. I lost .60 to DraftKings’.

I keep reaching for some kind of system that will be good in case I ever, started playing bigger sums of money (don’t count on it). In week seven I played my usual $10 divided among three H2Hs, five GPPs, and a 10x Booster.  All were $1 entry fee except the booster, which was $2.

Take a look below and see how I did. You can tell it was a high scoring week in the NFL overall with my highest score hitting 175.

week 7 wins fantasy football blueprint movie tv tech geeks (1)I had a pretty good lineup on my GPPs that paid off but still only won $2 on each contest. I used Fantasy Labs for all the GPPs and I will have a full review of Fantasy Labs next week as I will have used the service for about one full month.

I was really happy with my head to head matchups. I won 3 / 3 against opponents that I hand picked. They may be experienced vets or even sharks, but they did not show themselves offering multiple head to head contests available. Take a look at my lineups on the H2H games. I used the same players for all H2Hs again this week.

week 7 wins fantasy football blueprint movie tv tech geeks (2)These man on man contests were pretty close, and I got lucky on one as my opponent had Palmer on MNF just like me, with our scores fairly close. He also had Larry Fitzgerald while I had only Palmer left. So it mattered not how Palmer did, but I needed Fitz to have an off game. He did, and I won.

Daily fantasy play is just like the real games. The contests can go either way. I was almost sure I would get overtaken since my rival had two great players left. But all the research in the world won’t stop a receiver from having an off game now and then.

I did mix up my GPP lineups with different players on each lineup. I entered all five lineups in the same contest figuring that was better than spreading them around.

gpp lineup fantasy football blueprint movie tv tech geeksChoosing Gurley along with the Rams defense was a good play, and those two were highly owned so even if they were duds, I was still on par with most other players.

I got lucky with Andrew Luck since he had no choice but throw it a bunch to try and catch up in a beat down versus New Orleans. Lamar Miller really paid off, and I forget where I got that tip since I never would have chosen him on my own thought patterns.

Edelman let me down along with Shady McCoy and Willie Snead. I also only got 10 points out of DeAndre Hopkins. I can’t blame him since his team was getting trounced by Miami. Not much a WR can do when nothing is working for the offense, and his defense couldn’t stop the Phins even for one series.

On to week eight. We can’t dwell on my 60 cents that was ripped from me like a binky from Ryan Mallett.

What’s the plan for this week’s fantasy plays? Hell, I don’t know. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated since it’s clear I don’t know what I’m doing.

I guess step one is to get back on track in my season long league. I somehow lost to a guy who decided to name his team Poopville Sharts and was 2-4 going into the game.

As for my DraftKings plays, I am going with five H2Hs and five GPPs. I will use no emotion at all, no narratives from the big media, and none of my football knowledge (real or imaginary). I will use Fantasy Labs only.

That does not assure me anything though as the creators of the site always say they can’t pick your team for you, and if you don’t know what you’re looking at with the information on their site then, it does you no good.

With all the expert sites available now it leads me to wonder how many ties we will see in head to head matches going forward. If everyone reads the same tips each week, there is bound to be more similarities in lineups. But considering there are nine players on each fantasy team and hundreds of NFLers to choose from each week, lots of ties are not too likely even with many people following the same fantasy advice.

It’s one thing to read articles on matchups and check out spreadsheets everyday. It’s another thing to take that advice to heart and go with it 100% without letting your own judgement get in the way. I know that’s part of my trouble since I can only seem to break even (still better than losing).

This week I’m going to go fantasy robot, though. I will do exactly what Fantasy Labs tells me to do. We’ll check back next week to see if my own mind is the biggest hindrance to my DFS success.

I’m kinda looking forward to NBA fantasy action and even baseball next year. I keep up with very little NBA news and have zero love for baseball. I should be able to stick to numbers only with those sports without letting my biases creep in on who I should put in my lineup.

‘Being Mary Jane’ 303 Dealing Death Recap

being mary jane 303 dealing death 2015 imagesIt’s a heavy one this week on Being Mary Jane, so get your tissue and stay close to your phone. You may need to make a much-needed phone call to someone you owe an apology (or who owes you one).

MJ is still reeling from everything that’s been going on in her life. But as you know, she’s going to act like she has it all together. And she goes a pretty good job until she gets a phone call. Lisa committed suicide.

We see Lisa have her last meal so to speak sitting at her table, alone. She goes to her bathroom, looks at herself naked in the mirror for a second, runs a shower, puts on a pretty dress, and lies down on her bed with a glass of wine. She fills a bowl full of water, pours three bottles of medicine in it and takes each and every pill. We see her foam at the mouth, drop her wine and fade off.

Mary Jane gets phone call after phone call and ignores them all. David even shows up to her house the next morning, but MJ already left for work. No one can get through to her. Then Nicey calls her, and she answers and she’s devastated.

You have to know she feels a certain way, especially after how she spoke to Lisa. Mary Jane tore that girl down and all Lisa could do was stand there and take it. There is no doubt her words didn’t help her mental condition. She even mentioned how Lisa has tried to take her life in the past.

After getting the news and leaving work late, Mary Jane makes it home and crawls into bed. She goes through her call log and scrolls down to the last time Lisa called her. Then she sees all the times she called and didn’t answer.

Kara shows up to comfort her, and MJ tells her she’s just trying to make sense of everything. Later, she, Kara and some of Lisa’s friends sit around the coffee table and talk about the good things Lisa did. While talking about what to do for the funeral, they have a conversation about suicide in the black community and how taboo it is considered to be. MJ says the meds docs give black folks is what’s making them commit suicide and Kara argues that all meds aren’t bad. They then ask her if she’s talked to David (she hadn’t) and she’s dumbfounded because she didn’t know that he’s the one that found Lisa.

David comes over. They have a conversation, and while she is trying to be cordial, she still gives him the coldest shoulder. She asks him why he was at Lisa’s, and he tells her because Lisa wasn’t answering his calls.

Mary Jane walks in on her mother saying that they killed Lisa. She feels that because they didn’t talk to her or because of the way in which they did speak to her, they killed her. Mary Jane tells her that’s not true, but Helen doesn’t agree.  She puts her daughter in her place like only she can.

At Lisa’s house, her mother shows up, and MJ is straightforward with her. She tells her that she doesn’t want her husband, Lisa’s stepdad (played by Richard Lawson) to attend. They also agree not to go into the details of Lisa’s death. After they speak, Lisa’s mother goes to her car and tells her husband not to come to the funeral, and you want to know why? Well keep on reading and you will find out.

The family gets ready for Lisa’s funeral, and MJ views Lisa’s body alone. Afterward, she has a moment with David in which she tells him that she couldn’t even cry when she first heard Lisa died. He tries to comfort her but MJ is not having it and as usually, she tears into him. I’m out of comfort to give you, David. I’m out of anything to give you. I have nothing for you.”

As they ready to walk into the church, Lisa’s stepdad shows up anyway, and MJ goes off on him. I mean she makes a scene. Her family calms her down, and the minister tells her that because it’s the house of God, everyone is welcomed.

After they walk in, Mary Jane steps to the platform to address the congregation. She talks about the fact that everyone is a liar because “We’re all afraid that the whole world is going to come falling down if we are honest with each other all the time.” She says that the lies we tell each other is what killed her friend, her sister. Then… this chick does something bold and so Mary Jane. She tells everyone that Lisa was molested for over ten years by her stepfather, who is there sitting by Lisa’s mom. “Her whole life she was n pain.” Damn Mary Jane.

MJ goes on to say that the best way to celebrate Lisa’s life is to stop being liars, to celebrate the truth. “Just make sure that you tell everyone that you love that you will love them no matter how ugly their truth is.

That is some powerful stuff. RIP Lisa.

Salvadore Perez, Pine Tar & Curt Schilling’s Comment

Salavadore Perez Pine Tar Curt Schilling 2015 mlb images
When the Kansas City Royals entered the 2015 World Series following what could be called, at best, a series of umpiring mistakes in game six of the ALCS you couldn’t really blame them. After all, KC weren’t the ones that called a ground-rule double a homerun, the Royals weren’t the ones that missed a clear balk that would have tied the game, and the Royals weren’t the ones that decided that the strike zone for their pitchers should be a lot bigger than standard during key at bats. The Royals just benefited from those decisions, and they reflected more on Major League Baseball as a whole.
However, the Royals’ reputation does stand to take a hit if baseball fans jump to conclusions about what Salvador Perez was doing behind the plate of game one of the 2015 World Series. Footage from Fox appears to show the catcher rubbing some kind of “mystery substance,” as it was called in a Sportsnet.ca article by Mike Johnston, on his hand. Former Major League pitcher Curt Schilling was a bit more assertive in a tweet from his verified account:
“Salvadore Perez has pine tar on right shin guard! Ha, hilarious! That way your pitcher doesn’t have to wear it! #sneaky”
Pine tar is a substance that has both legal and illegal purposes in Major League Baseball that has to do with gripping. For pitchers, it is not allowed, and it can get you tossed from a game, as it did for Michael Pineda of the New York Yankees in 2014. However a lot of Major League Baseball players, including many hitters, are fairly passive about it’s usage.
David Ortiz, for example, is on the record stating “Everybody uses pine tar in the league…It’s not a big deal.”
The issue with Perez appears to be a bit overblown. If he’s using pine tar in cooperation with the pitcher, then there may be an issue, and that may be what Schilling is implying in his tweet. However, the reason why Perez has a substance on his shin guard is a matter that only he can explain, and I am not a fan of jumping to conclusions on such matters.
Ned Yost, manager of the Royals, offered this commentary:
“It’s not illegal,” Yost said. “I don’t know what it was. It was brown. It’s not illegal for a catcher to have it on his shinguard. It’s illegal for a pitcher.”
The comment from Yost, it should be pointed out, contains a bit of a contradiction. He says he doesn’t “know what it was” and then claims it’s “not illegal for a catcher” but only “for a pitcher.” The latter declarations appears to suggest that he does know what it is – after all how can he comment on its legality without that knowledge?
Currently, there is a lot of tweeting and debating going on that the Royals’ reputation isn’t benefiting from. There are things to be mad at in the 2015 playoffs, and I think part of the reaction to the Perez footage is derived from that. In regard to the use of pine tar, I wish that Major League Baseball would either legalize it for everyone or ban it and crack down on enforcement.
Rules in limbo only cause disdain from those who want to know how the game should be played.

Khloe Kardashian Talks Lamar Odom & Liam Hemsworth Talks Miley Cyrus

khloe kardashian talks lamar odom 2015 gossipKhloe Kardashian finally opened up about her current relationship with Lamar Odom. A little over two weeks ago Lamar was found unconscious in a Las Vegas brothel, due to an overdose of various drugs including herbal Viagra and cocaine. Since then, Khloe and Lamar decided to call off their divorce, which led many to believe that they were giving their marriage another shot.

However, this doesn’t seem to be the case, as Khloe reveals to People magazine, “it’s out in the media that we are back together, but I wish people understood that’s not in our thought process right now” She goes on to say, “There are too many other important things, too many medical things. It’s not even in our brains thinking about us as a couple or having a relationship right now. There is a very long road ahead of him, and he has to walk that road by himself. But I’ll be there supporting him every step of the way.”

Khloe tells the media outlet, “[our relationship] is not anything sexual or intimate. I want to be his support system. Tragedy does make you reassess a lot of things, but when it comes to our relationship, it’s the same, except I’m here supporting him fully.”

A source tells E! that Khloe made the decision to call off the divorce as she felt it was “the right thing to do” and she feels there is “no rush” in getting it finalized.

Khloe tells People, “It’s just bad timing to proceed with [our divorce] right now. And also for medical reasons, it’s just smarter that gets on hold for a minute. But that does not mean I’m back with Lamar. That’s a whole other thing that only time will tell. I can’t tell you what tomorrow brings.”

Additionally, Khloe revealed that Lamar’s condition remains to be very serious and that his degree of recovery fluctuates frequently.

liam hemsworth talks miley cyrus 2015 gossipIn other couple news, Liam Hemsworth finally opened up about his failed engagement with controversial pop star Miley Cyrus. Two years ago, Liam and Miley Cyrus announced that they have decided to end their engagement. This came shortly after Miley’s tongue-wagging performance with Robin Thicke at the MTV VMAs.

In the November issue of Men’s Fitness, Liam explains, “you fall in love with who you fall in love with; you can never choose. I guess some people just come with a little more baggage.” Adding, “I mean, look – we were together five years, so I don’t think those feelings will ever change. And that’s good because that proves to me that it was real. It wasn’t just a fling.”

Miley and Liam met on the set of 2010’s The Last Song. Despite breaking up, Liam claims he has nothing but love for Cyrus. He explains, “It really was an important part of my life and always will be. She’s a free spirit. I think she’ll always surprise people with what she does, but she’s not a malicious person in anyway. She’s a young girl who wants to do what she wants to do.”

Since the breakup, Liam has remained single for the most part (he did have a short fling with model Eiza Gonzalez) and he admits that dating has been “really difficult” due to the nature of working in the movie business.

Amazon Will Sue You For Your Fiverr Dollars & More

0

amazon will sue you for your fiverr dollars 2015 tech imagesAmazon will sue you for your five dollars and more, that is, if you make it a business writing fake reviews of products featured on the website. People do that? Unfortunately so. Now, writing reviews for money is nothing new. But reviews should be honest and unbiased, based on the reviewer’s experience with a product, a service, a place, a movie or even a person’s performance. Reviews can make or break all of the aforementioned. Reviews help people make informed decisions as to what to buy, what to watch, where to go and who to ask for help with something before spending their hard-earned money. Unfortunately, in the pursuit of money, some people would go to the extent of writing fake or biased reviews. Some of these fake reviews that get posted to Amazon originate from the micro-tasking site known as Fiverr and Amazon is out for blood.

Good, honest reviews about a product whether they’re good or bad is the social equivalent of quality control. Whether it’s through the web, through print or down the grapevine, reviews help people flesh out the good from the bad; most of the time, since reviews are still opinions of people with different tastes and views. Most of the time, through reviews, the good becomes better, and the bad become good. The problem with dishonest, biased reviews is that they degrade good products with potential and elevate bad and potentially dangerous products. If you’ve lived under a rock the past decade and just discovered the internet and looking for a place to go, fun, and sunny Afghanistan is the place to be according to one thousand five-star reviews.

There are plenty of fake reviews on Amazon nowadays thanks to fake reviewers. Dishonest reviews are ones that come from people who give glowing or scathing reviews of a product they haven’t even gotten their hands on, a place they haven’t been to or a service they haven’t availed. Dishonest, biased reviews come from people with vested interests on products and services such as those coming from company employees who manufacture product X and give it an A, knowing full well the thing could fall apart after a week. Another instance is when company A contracts a horde of reviewers to say that product Y from company B sucks worse than shimmering vampires in Twilight when in truth product Y is superior than product X from company A. Where does company A get these reviewers from? Their staff, their friends and from micro-tasking sites such as Fiverr.

For those unfamiliar, Fiverr is one of many micro-tasking or freelance sites like ODesk or Freelancer. Jobs in Fiverr start at 5 dollars, hence the name. Now Amazon has called out over 1000 Fiverr users, or sellers blatantly selling Amazon product reviews. Why take out the little guy scrounging for five bucks and not Fiverr itself? Amazon is apparently familiar with Fiverr, its terms of use and its takedown system for term violations, so Amazon has no beef with the website. Amazon even shut down similar sites because they have no system to control such a practice. And, with such a system set up, Amazon can’t touch Fiverr even if they wanted to. Like Amazon itself, Fiverr can’t filter out all its bad products. Most of Fiverr’s faux reviewers, on the other hand, know full well the potential consequences of their actions. Well, most as not everybody’s educated enough to sugarcoat their gigs by saying:

“I will give a five-star review of any Amazon product for 5 dollars.”

Or:

“I will give ten product reviews per Amazon product for 5 dollars.”

Some even say:

“Write your Amazon product review and I will post them for 5 dollars.”

The last one could come from a trusted Amazon reviewer fallen on hard times. Others would try to be valid by actually trying to acquire the product and give it five stars regardless.

Not trying to justify the needy, but the trade exists because there are companies out there that snap up these gigs like candy. Five bucks is nothing compared to the amount of commercial traffic brought by five-star reviews. Some of these reviews can be overly long and convincing. What protection do consumers have against this problem? No fear. Amazon has people working full-time on weeding out fake reviews from the genuine ones. But you can’t really weed them all. So Amazon decided to go down to the root of the problem and sue the offenders for every five dollars they got plus expenses and attorney’s fees. They have a list of over 1000 Fiverr user names to make an example of, just like those people sued for millions of dollars by music companies for music downloaded from Napster. Fiverr might just hand these folks over to Amazon too.

Whether Amazon will go through with its plan and feed these folks to their litigation, piranhas remain to be seen but hopefully, this will discourage others to go into the fake review trade. Given the bad consequences of fake reviews, it’s for the good of all really, not just for Amazon.

‘Fresh Off the Boat’ 205 Dead Street Recap

It’s Halloween on Fresh Off the Boat and the Hung’s look forward to celebrating their first fright night in Orlando.

Jessica is super excited about their fixer-upper, which is in the process of being renovated by Honey’s contact. While she talks to her mother in law about it, who reminds her that they are still partners, Louis comes in with Halloween costumes for them and Jessica, needless to say, is not feeling it. She hates the tradition and would rather make money.

In the yard, Eddie and his boys map out their trick or treat route for the night of Halloween. They also go over their costumes, and he is determined to go as one of his favorite rappers of the nineties.

Jessica goes to see the renovations and is more than happy about the work. The guy suggests that she gets it treated for termites, and she tells him, “Thanks but no thanks,” and tears the card he handed her up… right in his face. Then, because he doesn’t want to go over to his truck because fourteen boys sit on the grass in front of it, Jessica takes it upon herself to stand up to them since they make fun of adults as they walk past. She shows them who’s boss, telling them they need to stop because no one cares what they think. They get back at her by drawing a picture of a penis in the dust of her car the next day. She is livid and pulls her belt off to whip them, but Honey stops her. I mean, she takes off her shoe and even throws tic-tacs at them. As they get up to leave, they let her know that they plan to come back on Halloween and egg the house.

Back at the house, Louis is bummed when Evan and Ethan tell him that no one trick or treats on their street because it’s a dead zone, and the homeowners association won’t allow it. So he demands to be put on the agenda for the next meeting.

At the meeting, Ethan runs it (interesting), and Louis gets up to tell the ladies that Halloween is all about losing yourself and creating a whole new identity. So their neighborhood should not let the allure of the Disney imaginaries’ stop them from creating their identity that one night. And thanks to his speech (he borrows from Field of Dreams) in which he tells him “If you build it they will come” they agree. So for the first time in a long time, the neighborhood has Halloween.

Halloween comes, and they all go all out. Evan is Hannibal Lecter, Ethan is a lamb and Eddie is Humpy Hump from digital underground. Oh, the 90’s. Jessica tells Louis to come with her to the investment property because the neighborhood boys plan to egg it. He says it’s all good because that’s what kids do on Halloween, which pisses her off and is the reason she hates the night- “It’s just an excuse for bad behavior.” She goes and, of course, takes Honey.

They stand guard at the house, but Honey gets picked up for a Halloween party and leaving Jessica to ward off the boys herself.

Eddie and his friends stroll the neighborhood trick or treating having a good time. Then Louis, who feels bad about enjoying Halloween without his wife, picks them up so that they can be there for their mom because, “It’s time for some mayhem. As the swing in like the A- Team (Louis is Mr. T) one of the guys open the door too soon and all the eggs Jessica bought earlier in an attempt to cut off the boys supply, fall out of the van, foiling their plan to fight back. So they “Figure out a way to scare those punks so badly they never want to come back.”

They eventually show up, Reservoir Dogs style, with their eggs in tow and proceed to egg the house. As they do, Eddie’s friend, who is a girl (which are the scariest thing to teenage boys) shows up with her friends and put them in their place. They give them a verbal lashing, and the boys flee. As they do, Jessica grabs an egg and throws it at them, hitting one right in the head.

Jessica is in such a good mood; she joins in the festivities of trick or treating as they all run down the street.

Jason Pierre-Paul Eyes Week 10 Return: NY Giants Expect Fireworks On Field

0

jason pierre paul eyes week 10 return 2015 nfl imagesThe New York Giants and index finger-less defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul signed a contract Tuesday, bringing an end to the ordeal that dates back to the 4th of July when JPP really screwed up his hand in a fireworks accident.

The Giants are tired of hearing about it. They want to see some fireworks on the field now. Too soon?

Pierre-Paul was franchise tagged back in March, meaning the Giants were to either sign him for about $14.8 million this season or come to a long-term agreement before the deadline. Well, Pierre-Paul screwed up his hand pretty badly in the accident, and so nothing has really happened between him and the Giants since then.

The exact terms of the new deal are unclear, but it is reported that the majority of the payment will be incentive-based to be determined by how much (or how little) JPP is able to play this season.

“I’m very excited to be back,” said Pierre-Paul after resigning. “I’m getting ready to do what I have to do. I’ve been training down in South Florida with my trainer. Every day, I got up at 7:30 and lifted weights. I’ve been doing what I have to do to stay in football shape.”

Pierre-Paul still insists that his missing limbs won’t impact his play on the field. He joked earlier in the fiasco that he can’t remember “the last time [his] index finger got [him] a sack,” but I have a hard time believing that everything will be the same.

But, we’ll all have to wait and see. There is no way Pierre-Paul will be ready for the Giants matchup with the New Orleans Saints this Sunday, and he has a two-game roster exemption to wait out anyways. Pierre-Paul hopes to make a return in Week 10; however, the Giants have a bye week after that, so don’t be overly surprised if he takes that extra week and suits up for the first time Week 12 against the Washington Redskins.

“I’m just here to help the team out, I’m blessed to play the game, and I’m excited about the opportunity to play again.”

Just please don’t do anything stupid this time, Jason.

NBA Opening Night Recap: Pistons, Bulls & Warriors Winners

0

nba opening night recap games 2015 imagesThe regular season started in the National Basketball Association on Tuesday night. In a trio of games that were featured the Detroit Pistons, the Chicago Bulls, and the Golden State Warriors all emerged as victorious.

Detroit entered the night as pretty big road underdogs on Tuesday as they traveled south to face the Atlanta Hawks, a team considered to be one of the powerhouses in the Eastern Conference this season. However Detroit posted an impressive and surprising double-digit victory, defeating the Hawks 106-94.

The Pistons almost out-rebounded the Hawks by a ratio of 3 to 2, hauling in 59 on the night to Atlanta’s 40. For Detroit, that included 23 boards on the offensive end, rebounding that caught the attention of Paul Newberry. Writing at NBA.com, he described a part of the game as such:

“During one especially frustrating sequence for the sellout crowd in Atlanta, the Pistons grabbed four offensive rebounds before Ilyasova got one to drop. It looked like keep away on the playground, the Hawks jumping around futilely trying to get the ball.”

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had the game high for scoring, with 21 points.

Another road team was not as fortunate as Detroit on opening night. The Cleveland Cavaliers were in Chicago to face the Bulls in a game between two other teams considered to be Eastern Conference contenders. Cleveland entered the game short-handed and as being underdogs as both Kyrie Irving and Iman Shumpert are currently out with injuries.

Lebron James opened his season with a 25-point effort for the Cavaliers, however, the Bulls took the win away 97-95. The ending of the game was somewhat anti-climatic as Kevin Love kept Cleveland in it with two late three-pointers, shots that helped rescue a sub-par night for the standout forward. However, Cleveland’s fate felt sealed when a James’ drive to tie the game met rejection; soon afterward the Cavs failed to execute an inbounds play with just seconds left.

After losing three of four to Cleveland last season and after falling to the Cavs in the playoffs, the opening-night victory over the current betting favorites to win the NBA title has to feel good for Chicago. They will play in Brooklyn on Wednesday night as they seek their second consecutive victory.

In the final game of the night, the reigning NBA champions opened their season with a banner ceremony in Oracle Arena in Oakland. Golden State looked very much like contenders again as they hosted the New Orleans Pelicans.

Steph Curry, last season’s regular season MVP, lead all scorers with forty points to open his season. Behind that offensive output, the Warriors cruised to victory, winning 111-95.

Wednesday night will feature fourteen games in total with nearly every NBA team scheduled for action. The game of the night promises to be Cleveland at Memphis as the Cavs look to avoid a 0-2 hole to start the season.

2015 World Series: Game One Slips Away from New York Mets

0
2015 world series game slips away on 2015 royals vs mets mlb
Game One of the 2015 World Series finally ended as the Kansas City Royals defeated the New York Mets in 14 innings. Bartolo Colon pitched the 12th, 13th, and 14th for the Mets, and he got into at least a little bit of trouble in each inning. The Mets finally cashed in when Eric Hosmer sacrifice-flied in the game winner, tagging the 42-year old Colon with a loss.
If the Mets do not earn a split in Kansas City, then they may feel as though game one was the game that got away. New York handed the ball over to Jeurys Familia with the lead late however the normally reliable closer gave up a ninth inning solo shot to No. 8 hitter Alex Gordon. Also indisputably homering in the game was Curtis Granderson of the Mets.
However, the game will also be remembered for a not-so-standard homerun. Alices Escobar will at least be credited with one as he hit a fly ball (that should have been caught) to center field in the bottom of the first. In attempting to make a play on the ball, Yoenis Cespedes overran the flight and then he appeared to boot the ball. Escobar, who circled the bases, received credit for an inside-the-park home run on the play; although you could mount what would be a very futile argument that Cespedes committed a four-base error instead.
While Colon picked up the loss and while Familia gave up the solo shot, David Wright, the Mets third baseman, also made a pivotal mistake. Fielding in the bottom of the 14th, Colon induced a ground ball from Escobar that Wright failed to field cleanly. He then drew the first baseman off of the bag with an errant throw, allowing Escobar to reach safely. He eventually came around to score on what was an unearned run.
Game two goes tomorrow evening with an 8 pm ET start time. The pitching match-up clearly belongs to New York heading into game two, so much so that arguably winning game one was crucial for the Royals.
Jacob deGrom will start for New York while Johnny Cueto will start for the Royals. With a hot Mets’ pitcher taking the mound, they will be under major pressure to come away with a victory before they head home for at least games three and four.

‘The Voice’ 912: Knockouts Part 2 Recap

the voice 912 knockouts part 2 2015 pharrellIt was part 2 of The Voice season 9’s Knockout Rounds, and things intensified as they always do on this show. In these rounds, singers on the same team are paired up with one another to battle it out for a spot in the Live Rounds. However, in contrast to the Battle Rounds, the Knockout Rounds allow each artist to choose which song they want to perform in order to impress their coaches. Coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams were joined by Rihanna for more mentoring.

So here are the performances from tonight’s episode:

  1. Team Gwen

Korin Bukowski vs. Summer Schappell

Korin is an offbeat young artist who says she resorted to singing as a way to escape her self-proclaimed awkwardness. As she sees Rihanna as the advisor beside her coach Gwen Stefani, she exclaims that Rihanna is basically “glitter in human form.”

Ultimately, Korin decides to sing “All I Want” by Kodaline. During the rehearsals, Rihanna advises Korin to embrace her weirdness when on stage as it part of what makes her unique. Additionally, Gwen suggests she gets rid of her glasses and embrace her inner rock star.

Meanwhile, Summer is a country artist who was stolen by Gwen. She decides to sing “Little White Church” by Little Big Town. During rehearsals, Rihanna recommends that Summer brings out her sassiness and evokes more grit in her vocals.

Summer was the first to perform and, unfortunately, her vocals seemed to be compromised by her focus on her stage presence. In contrast, Korin had much more accuracy in her vocals and showcased her dynamic abilities. Thus, Gwen decides to keep Korin on her team, and Summer is sent home.

  1. Team Adam

Keith Semple vs. Dustin Christensen

Adam decided to pair up Keith and Dustin (who Adam stole), as he believes they occupy a similar space musically. Dustin decides to sing “Free” by Zac Brown Band. Advisor Rihanna helps Dustin perfect his vibrato and keep it strong throughout the longer notes.

Irish rocker Keith chooses “Free” by Foreigner. From the rehearsals, it seems like Keith’s song choice is going to give him the upper hand.

Unfortunately, Dustin’s performance was pretty much all over the place. He was very inconsistent with his pitch, and the overall performance was disappointing. Keith’s performance wasn’t too much better, as it felt very karaoke. However, he had a bit more precision with his pitch and ends up winning the spot on Adam’s team for the Live Rounds.

  1. Team Pharrell

Darius Scott vs. Morgan Frazier

The last battle of the night was between powerhouse vocalists Darius Scott and Morgan Frazier.

Darius takes a surprising twist by choosing “On Broadway” by George Benson. Darius adds his own soulful spin to the classic song. Although he is pretty polished right off the bat, Rihanna advises him to visualize the note he wants to hit to avoid going flat. In addition, Pharrell gets rid of the mic stand to enhance Darius’ stage presence.

Meanwhile, Morgan Frazier is a young country artist who was stolen from Team Blake during the Battle Rounds. Morgan comes to rehearsal with the song “Even if It Breaks Your Heart” by Eli Young Band. Pharrell advises Morgan to let her perfectionist habits go and embrace the connection she has with the song. Morgan ends up getting emotional as Rihanna and Pharrell praise her when she begins to let her guard down in her performance during rehearsals.

During the performances, Darius showcases his smooth vocals and ability to navigate through various runs. However, he goes a bit overboard by adding a few too many vocal bells and whistles. Clearly, he was attempting to leave it all on the stage. Morgan delivered a much more emotional performance, as she belted out lyrics about believing in a dream. Overall, it was definitely a close battle between the two.

In the end, Pharrell decided to keep Darius. Fortunately, Morgan’s original coach, Blake Shelton, steals her back. Blake is doing a good job keeping all of the country artists for his team.

Lenny Dykstra, Blackmail & Comparisons to Jose Canseco’s Claims

Lenny Dykstra, a former Major League Baseball all-star, admitted in an interview on Monday that he blackmailed umpires in order to get a smaller strike zone. The story was broke in an interview by Colin Cowherd, host of Fox Sports show “The Herd.”
Dykstra played his career in the 1980s and 1990s as a member of both the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies. He was a part of the Mets’ team that won the 1986 World Series, and he was also a major part of the Phillies’ team that won the National League pennant in 1993.
Dykstra claimed in his interview with Cowherd that, following his use of private investigators to get information on umpires, “it wasn’t a coincidence…that (he) lead the league in walks the next few years.”
The year that Dykstra lead the league in walks outright was 1993, the year that the Phillies lost to the Jays on the Joe Carter home run. That year Dykstra played in a career-high 161 games, and he also lead the league in both runs and hits while finishing second behind Barry Bonds, another controversial player, in MVP voting. It could be that Dykstra’s spike in hits resulted from the narrowed-down strike zone as he would have been able to better select his pitches.
The interview comes on the heels of the start of the 2015 World Series between the Kansas City Royals and the New York Mets. Furthermore, Dykstra is in the midst of promoting a book.
The latter will surely cause some to believe that Dykstra, who is a convicted felon, is lying in order to market his book. In truth, he cannot be deemed a credible individual based on the fact that he has admitted to blackmailing and cheating.
However, it may be noteworthy or insightful that he walked in 16.7% of all plate appearances in 1993 and 17.6% of all plate appearances in 1994, the latter being a strike-shortened season. In 1992, in contrast, he only walked in 10.2% of his plate appearances, so there is a degree of statistical corroboration that blackmailing umps had an effect on his strike zone and that the blackmailing took place sometime around the 1992 and 1993 seasons.
Furthermore, we can also compare Dykstra’s claims to those made by Jose Canseco in his tell-all book from a decade ago. When Canseco originally made claims about rampant steroid usage in Major League Baseball, his credibility was attacked in part because it was viewed as an attempt to make money off of book sales. But many of Canseco’s claims have been corroborated since he originally published his book. For example, players that Canseco claimed were on steroids, such as Mark McGuire and Jason Giambi, eventually admitted to it.
Therefore, it is not enough to dismiss Dykstra’s claims based solely on the grounds that he may financially benefit from what could be called self-promotion.
