Despite Mike Pettine’s Best Effort, Johnny Manziel Starting Rest of Browns Season

0

despite mike pettines best effort johnny manziel to start 2015 nfl imagesIt’s here—the Johnny Manziel era in Cleveland is finally here! Despite his blatant hatred of Johnny Boy, Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine finally gave into pressure from the fans, the media, the players, the front office, the owners, common sense, and just about anyone or anything else. Everyone wanted Johnny.

“The performance against [the Pittsburgh Steelers] validated for us the progress that he has made, the improvement he has shown and that he deserves this opportunity,” said Pettine.  “It’s something that we understand where our season is, at this point, and this is a kid that we have invested a lot in. This will give us an opportunity to see how far he has come and what he’s capable of.”

To translate: “I still hate this little thug, but the front office has my seat warmer cranked all the way up, so I have no choice.”

At the end of the day, no matter what Pettine thinks of Manziel, he will be the franchise quarterback moving forward—exactly what he was brought in to be.

And let’s face it, it’s hard to argue against the move. No matter what you think about Manziel or how much better you may say veteran Josh McCown is, numbers don’t lie. The Browns are 2-8, most likely missing the playoffs for yet another season, and McCown has given nothing to say that a miraculous turnaround is coming soon.

Manziel is sitting on 933 yards, five touchdowns, only two interceptions, and 90 rushing yards this season, and he is coming off a career-high 389 yards in the loss to Pittsburgh. Also, the NFL won’t be suspending him that roadside incident with his girlfriend. So basically, as long as he doesn’t embarrass himself or the franchise, Manziel could be sticking around for a while, and—in an extremely ironic twist—may even be the one to save Pettine’s job.

“I let Pett know that I’m not going to do anything that’s going to be a distraction to this team or be an embarrassment to the organization,” said Manziel. “I’m going to get a chance to go and relax like everybody else in this locker room is. I don’t think they’re going to have to worry about me this week.”

Unrealistic Only In My Wildest Dreams Bold Prediction: Browns upset New England in the AFC Championship.

Manziel got another not so surprising break as he won’t be disciplined for the incident with his girlfriend. If you don’t remember that one, he was driving with his girlfriend back in October and things got out of hand (literally with his girlfriend, Colleen Crowley getting some bruises), but as long as your white in the NFL, you can beat the fuck out of your girlfriend as she obviously doesn’t matter to Roger Goodell. I guess if she were married to him, maybe Goodell and the NFL would do a little more.

Here’s the statement put out:

“Consistent with the procedures of the league’s Personal Conduct Policy, we have examined the available evidence regarding the recent incident involving Johnny Manziel,” the league said in a statement. “Our investigation included a thorough review of information from law enforcement and our own interviews with multiple individuals, including the two involved in the incident. Based on the information gathered, we have concluded that there is an insufficient basis on which to take disciplinary action. In all cases of this nature, our concern under the Personal Conduct Policy goes well beyond the issue of discipline, and we have made comprehensive professional resources available on a confidential basis.”

Manziel had this to say after wiping his mouth from some serious ass kissing or something that he did to get away with this one:

“I appreciate the NFL’s diligence and discretion in reviewing a situation that was both personal and embarrassing,” Manziel said in a statement through his friend and advisor, Brad Beckworth. “Colleen and I cooperated fully with the NFL’s process and completely support their goals of making sure that every family under their umbrella is safer and more secure. I’m grateful that the review was so thorough and fair that there should be no question left in the public mind about what actually happened. I’m looking forward to focusing my energies on our start against the Ravens and bringing in a win for our fans in Cleveland.”

So, as I’m sure Johnny Football will continue knowing that since he’s all white to the NFL, he’ll continue being able to beat the fuck out of any woman he wants, and be grateful that he’s got that lily white skin. If he was black, we all know it would have been a very different situation.

NFL Winners & Losers Week 10

0

NFL Winners & Losers Week 10 2015 imagesNFL Grown Man of the Week: Marshawn Lynch is not one to toot his own horn. Hell, he barely wants to talk at all it seems. But when it comes to taking care of his fans he opens up.

The Seattle running back gave a McDonald’s worker $500 after the guy complimented Beastmode on his kicks.

NFL Child of the Week: Greg Hardy again. Late for work last week and missed meetings to top the tardiness. Way to go Greg. I could probably just change the name of this loser section to “Hardy of the Week.”

Winner: Ben Roethlisberger. The guy was the backup as he was suffering from a foot injury from last week’s game, yet was called upon when Landry Jones went down with a bad foot himself early in the Browns game. Big Ben went off, making a few brave (see lucky) daily fantasy users very happy.

He led his Steelers to a blowout win versus the Browns 30-9.

Loser: Peyton Manning, who “led” his Broncos to a devastating home loss to the lowly Kansas City Chiefs. Manning threw four interceptions and finished the game with negative fantasy points. The pity shown for Peyton from multiple commentators was, well quite pitiful in and of itself.

Manning is not the player he was even when healthy and now stays hurt enough to make him look like a bottom ten QB. Father Time remains undefeated.

Winner: Tom Brady, whom I will stop referring to as the Golden Boy and will simply call “The One.” Brady led his team to a close win over their Super Bowl nemesis New York. Brady did this without Dion Lewis who is out for the year and the Pats QB also had to make it work without Julian Edelman who went down with a broken foot in this game.

If Tom Brady is able to take this team to another Super Bowl win as vital pieces around him keep dropping off, then his fifth Super Bowl win will be even more special.

Loser: I was one of the last to give Edelman credit last season, but this guy has the goods and has worked his ass off to become Brady’s go-to receiver. I hope he’s able to make it back for a playoff run.

Winner: Antonio Brown went bananas for the second week in a row. He didn’t catch 100 balls like last week but did haul in ten for two scores as he showed that he may well be the best in the NFL in a tight race with Julio Jones.

Loser: Denver’s ugly loss to the Chiefs may begin a late season slide. Peyton has been a hindrance to them, and Gary Kubiak may be forced to go with Brock Osweiler the rest of the way.

Winner: Carson Palmer’s go ahead drive versus Seattle was impressive and may end up being the point on the 2015 timeline when Arizona left Seattle in their wake. This team is dangerous as any in the League as long as Drew Stanton isn’t forced into action.

Loser: Seattle is now 4-5, and it will take another superhuman effort by the entire team to get to a third Super Bowl in a row. This team constantly has to come from behind which takes a toll each week. They managed to use that formula last year, but it can’t work forever.

Winner: Kirk Cousins can be an elite QB in the NFL. I’ve said it for a while now. As long as he controls his INT habit, the guy can rack up yards and touchdowns in the air. He obliterated the Saints in the first half with three TD passes and the Skins never looked back.

Loser: Drew Stanton. He never made it to the field for Arizona on SNF thankfully. He did, however, do some sort of bizarre dance celebration on the sideline that could get him cut from the roster. It was that bad. I give the guy credit for enthusiasm, but he lacked a lot in the style department.

Winner: Detroit finally got a win in Wisconsin for the first time since Abe Lincoln’s assassination. I don’t know what’s wrong with Green Bay or why the commentators made it a point to put Wisconsin in the streak that Detroit was trying to break. Is there another team besides Green Bay in that state? Just say the Lions haven’t beaten the Packers for the love of Lombardi!

Loser: Green Bay is going to cost me my NFC over the AFC bet, allegedly. They are falling fast and losing to Detroit has sure opened a lot of eyes around the League.

Winner: Cam Newton got his Panthers another win as they beat the Titans by 17. Newton also won the war of words about his touchdown celebrations. “Stop me if you don’t like to see it,” Cam stated after complaints from Tennessee. I don’t care for the showboating, but I agree that it’s the defense’s fault for letting him cross the goal line.

Loser: Sean Payton continues to look more and more like Sméagol from Lord of the Rings with each loss. The Saints should fire him before he turns into a full blown monstrosity before week 16.

Winner: Jeremy Langford is filling in nicely for Matt Forte and appears to have the same skill set as he racks up plenty of yards in the air and on the ground. He rolled over the Rams defense for 182 total yards on Sunday.

‘The Voice’ 919 Top 12 Results & A New Tweak

the voice 919 top 12 2015 imagesWhile the Top 12 contestants may have made it through the huge cuts last week on The Voice, they weren’t safe for long as they entered the next round of Live Eliminations. Tonight the four coaches – Gwen Stefani, Adam Levine, Pharrell Williams and Blake Shelton – once again graced our TVs as they watched one artist get the boot from the competition.

In contrast to last week, we didn’t get a flurry of flashbacks of last night’s performances, rather we watch as almost every contestant is asked different questions about their experiences on the show thus far.  Basically, it feels like the singers are beauty pageant contestants, as they are all (somewhat awkwardly) put on the spot.

The show begins with questions for contestants Amy Vachal and Barrett Baber, who give very cookie cutter answers, as they thank the judges and their families. However, shortly after host Carson Daly announces the first two contestants who received enough votes to stay in the competition another week. These two contestants are revealed to be: Jordan Smith (Team Adam) and Jeffrey Austin (Team Gwen). Both of these singers managed to crack the Top 10 iTunes chart with their performances last night.

Afterwards, Carson gets the judges to comment on their impression of last night’s show. Unsurprisingly, each of them boasts about how impressed they were with each artist. Of course, they also have to give the contestants some false hope, by exaggerating how many of them will find careers in music whether they win the contest or not. During this, coach Pharrell may not have been donning his signature hat, but he was sporting some sleek (kind of weird) shades.

Following a few more minutes of Q&A between the contestants and Carson, he goes on to announce the next two singers safe. This turns out to be Team Blake’s Emily Ann Roberts and Madi Davis (Team Pharrell).

At this point, all four of the coaches have one singer moving on to next week’s show.

For a change of pace, Team Blake takes the stage to perform “Lean on Me” by Bill Withers. Even coach Blake joins his team members. I don’t know if it’s just me, but it seemed like Blake was trying to impress a certain somebody in the front row (aka Gwen). The overall performance wasn’t anything too exciting, but Emily did have one (moderate) breakout moment in the midst of it.

Shortly after, Carson goes on to announce three more singers who are staying in the competition. He calls out the names of Braiden Sunshine (Team Gwen), Barrett Baber (Team Blake) and Amy Vachal (Yay!…Team Adam). Amy was also another artist that made it onto the iTunes Top 10 with her performance of Drake’s “Hotline Bling.”

Team Pharrell is the other group to perform together tonight. Pharrell and his team come together to sing their coaches own “Just a Cloud Away.” Unfortunately, Pharrell was the weak link in the performance. However, he is wearing shades indoors and just on another level of cool, so who am I to judge. And admittedly, after watching his deposition for the “Blurred Lines” case, I think I might be hypercritical of him.

After the performance, Carson announces that the final three singers who have secured a spot (for sure) are Evan McKeel (Team Pharrell), Shelby Brown (Team Adam) and Zach Seabaugh (Team Blake).

Thus, both Team Adam and Team Blake enter next week unscathed.

This leaves Team Gwen’s Korin Bukowski and Team Pharrell’s Mark Hood to perform a song of their choosing for the instant save. Mark takes the stage with “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours” by Stevie Wonder. I have never been a fan of Mark, so, unfortunately, he was fighting an uphill battle in my opinion. His song choice was much better than his slow performance last night. He improved, but he just doesn’t bring anything special. In addition, his performance seemed much too flashy. He needs to learn quality over quantity.

Following Mark is Korin, who sings “Don’t Know Why” by Norah Jones. The song is perfect for her voice. She does have some vocal similarities to Jones’, but she also has her own unique qualities that brought something fresh to the light tune. I thought it was her best performance thus far, and several of the coaches noted the same thing.

After the last commercial break, the votes are in, and Carson announces that Korin outperformed Mark and won herself a spot in next week’s performances. Thus, Mark of Team Pharrell is sent home.

For the final comments, Gwen gives a slight insight into her personal life (which is currently being played out in the tabloids) through her critique to Korin, saying, “I feel like we were put together for a reason. Both of us are busting out of a cocoon world, ready to fly. You have a whole new world ahead of you, and so do I.” A whole new world with Blake Shelton J

‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ 802 Porsha’s Trophy Boy Toy

0

real housewives of atlanta 802 porshas trophy toy boy 2015 images“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” is steadily building up to the big drama, and it was more than clear with this week’s episode. Yes, and we’re still not missing NeNe Leakes thank you very much.

It picks up at Cynthia’s party with Kenya and Sharee still going at it. The former beauty queen says something to the former RHOA regular about her bitch ass not being able to move into her house, which warrant gasps, sighs and “Ohh Ohh” from the rest of the ladies. Kenya calms down and walks away.

Meanwhile, Cynthia finally has a word with Peter and not because he went out of his way to make sure she did and he pretty much tells her that he didn’t appreciate her walking down the stairs showing her ass. She tries to talk to him and his walks away.

Phaedra and Kandi finally have a long overdue conversation about the state of their friendship. The soon to be ex-wife of the imprisoned Apollo Nida paid a visit to Kandi at her office, and they had it out. She said what she didn’t appreciate, including Todd having her husband in the club, and Kandi told her that she didn’t care, I guess feeling like she was just making excuses. In the end, they cry, and both express that they want things to be back normal for the used to be besties. And it seems that they both agree that they are going to work on doing just that.

While they have their conversation, DonJuan, Kandi’s assistant DonJuan comes in but doesn’t disturb them. However, after Phaedra leaves, he tells Kandi what he really thinks about their whole situation. From his view, Phaedra was being fake and making everything about her when Kandi has had some trying times in her life in the past year too, speaking of the passing of her mother in law and her mother having some issues. He feels like Phaedra is being very unfair to his boss because she hasn’t been the best friend either. He does not hold back, and Kandi doesn’t stop him. In fact, it almost looks like she second guesses whether or not she and Phaedra really had a moment.

Kenya, still looking to get a director of her pilot (since it’s hard for her to act, direct and write) enlists the help of Kim Fields, you know Regine from Living Single, Tutty from The Facts of Life, to see if she will come on as a director for the show. But Kim is hesitant, and I don’t blame her. Life Twirls On doesn’t exactly look to be like a hit, and Kim has done some major things behind the camera lately. You don’t want to put your name on just anything. She tells her that she will think about it.

Of course this is the episode where we are officially introduced to Kim and her storyline and to be honest, during her segment, it is like watching a whole different show. Without the ratchedness, drama and shade, I forgot it was RHOA, and that is not a bad thing. Kim is a dedicated mother to her three boys, a loving wife to her husband and a powerhouse boss lady. Everything all the other cast members, except maybe Kandi, aren’t.

The big story last night, though, was the “going away party” that Porsha throws for her boo, Duke Williams. Yes, she invites her momma and grand momma, her entire family, the cast and her business partners. People are supportive, but there is some talk about the fact that she’s moving so quickly with the Buffalo Bills player since he is ten years younger than her and they’ve only been dating for a couple of months at the taping of the show.  We find out too, during the prep for the party, that Porsha’s sister Lauren is pregnant. She almost steals Porsha’s Thunder, who feels a certain kind of way that her sister is having a baby before her, but you know she doesn’t let that happen. It is clear too that Duke and his homeboy feel that the whole thing is a little over the top. At one point, his friend tells him not to leave the party, which is all kinds of interesting. Especially since during the party she asks everyone to open their hearts to their love and tells Duke that he is the real MVP. And yes, she gives him a trophy.

You can see the fear in that boy’s eyes too, and then when his ‘friend’ tells him he can’t leave, you know Porsha’s heading into possible Kordell Stewart territory again. What is it with all these NFL and NBA stars fixation with strippers that are packing more meat than your average women?

It was low key this week but from the previews for next week, it is going to heat up quickly.

SPOILER ALERT:

For those of you wondering (and not following RHOA in the news), Porsha and Duke Williams are no longer together. It was pretty obvious from that scene alone the Buffalo Bills football player would be running for the hills after that party!

Maybe Ronda Rousey’s Mom was Right about her Coach Edmond Tarverdyan

0

Maybe Rouseys Mom was Right about her Coach edmond tarverdyan 2015 mma imagesIt was about one month ago that Ronda Rousey‘s mom came out publicly as “not a fan” of her daughter’s coach Edmond Tarverdyan. Actually it sounded like AnnMaria De Mars pretty much hated the guy who is in charge of the now former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champ after a devastating loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193.

I never expected Rousey to go undefeated, but I also never anticipated her getting absolutely throttled like she was against the powerful Holly Holm. The fight was not close, and Holm was never in danger. Not for one second.

Rousey was completely dominated and fought the perfect fight for Holm to use her boxing experience.

No adjustment was ever made by Rousey or her coach. As impressive as  Rowdy Ronda had been in her professional career, she was just as unimpressive against Holm.

Sloppy is a better description of Rousey’s performance. She was made to look foolish on multiple occasions as she lunged desperately toward Holm, who had to be shocked at how easy the champion made it for her.

Holm let Rousey chase her constantly all over the Octagon as Holm tagged the now 12-1 Rousey again and again. After about three minutes of this disastrous plan, one would think that the champion would have changed up something. Anything. Maybe for a start, stop chasing the bigger Holm around the ring. It clearly wasn’t working.

But no change came. The entire first round was the same. Holm’s fists planted squarely on the face of Ronda Rousey repeatedly.

I thought surely her coach would help his pupil out in between rounds one and two. Uh, no. His main advice was that all Holm had was that straight left and Rousey should avoid it.

Good Lord man! Your fighter is getting destroyed, and you tell her to avoid getting punched?

Why not suggest staying away from Holm and invite her in to tie her up?

How about telling your fighter to use a couple minutes of round two to clear your head before going on the attack?

How about telling the greatest armbar tactician on the planet to focus solely on that goal and forget the idiotic tactic of standing toe to toe with a former boxing champion?

As dumb as it was to try striking with a bigger, stronger, more experienced striker in round one, it was insanity to keep up that game plan in round two. Especially after Rousey was clearly still hurt coming off the stool for round two.

I don’t know if Bill Belichick watches the UFC or not but had he seen Rousey play right into the strength of her opponent; he would have been utterly confused. His philosophy of taking away what an opponent does best was the exact opposite of what Team Rousey did against Holly Holm.

Holm and her team could not have asked for a better situation than what Rousey handed them. The now former champ fought in the worst style possible for herself and the best one for her opponent.

I have never coached a professional fighter and likely won’t get any job offers anytime soon to do so. I do have enough sense to know to change up when things are not working, though.

I get it. Once you’re in a fight, it’s hard to listen to your corner. After all, you’re the one getting punched in the head, not your coach or trainer. But for Rousey’s team to just push forward with the same game plan that had her badly hurt and disoriented made no sense to me.

I can’t speak to whether Edmond Tarverdyan is a “terrible person” like Ronda’s mom claims. I can see that Rousey should take a long look at what he has brought to the table when it comes to her career.

It’s certainly possible that she would have gotten the top of the fight game with any coach, just like AnnMaria De Mars has said.

I do wonder how much this loss has to do with Rousey trying to be entertaining. As she was winning fights early in her UFC career, it was armbar after armbar. Some said she was one dimensional, and she then started focusing more on her stand up game. While that has been fun to watch and better for UFC fans, it was not the best move for her career.

Her goal should be to win the fight.

Entertaining the masses should have been secondary. I’m not saying she should have went with Floyd Mayweather‘s paint drying style, but she didn’t have to get reckless either.

Wreckless was what I saw in Rousey’s last fight with Bethe Correia. Sure she knocked out the Brazilian in 34 seconds but took some shots that could have cost her the belt on that night.

Holly Holm was not a pushover like Correia, and now Holm wears what once was Ronda Rousey’s UFC belt.

The rematch will be here before we know it and it may well set a PPV record for the UFC. There are a lot of questions between now and then. The biggest one is whether Ronda Rousey is being coached by the right man at this time.

After what I saw on Saturday night, I’m with Rousey’s mom.

‘The Voice’ 918 Top 12 Perform & Gwen Stefani Gets Happy With Blake Shelton

the voice 918 top 12 perform imagesThe Voice returned tonight after their huge cut. Last week, the competition eliminated 12 of their contestants – leaving just 12 singers to fight for the title. Tonight, all 12 of the remaining artists got to perform for the coaches and the audience, as they hoped to impress and earn a spot for themselves in next week’s Live Rounds.

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani‘s romance has been the main attraction when it comes to watching The Voice once these two came out as a couple, and although they kept things pretty low-key on their debut live show, it seems like these two coaches are feeling a little more comfortable about showing PDA in front of viewers.

So, the live audience got a treat (not the tv audience though) when Gwen came dancing in then ran directly to Shelton for a big hug. The country singer immediately picked her up and swung her around making the audience make that ‘awwww’ sound showing their approval. Seems that most people in America are glad to see Shelton happy and away from Miranda Lambert, who definitely was quite a wet blanket for him.

So here is a recap of tonight’s performances:

Braiden Sunshine

Team Gwen

“Renegade” by Styx

The first performance of the night was from 15-year-old Braiden Sunshine. During rehearsals, he struggled to embrace his inner rock star and had Gwen trying to coax it out of him.

Braiden once again took the stage with his naturally curly hair completely straightened. Overall, he performed much better than he did last week, which isn’t saying much. I didn’t really like the song choice for him, as it felt somewhat forced at times.

Amy Vachal

Team Adam

“Hotline Bling” by Drake

If you haven’t heard this Drake song enough on the radio, don’t worry The Voice has got you covered. However, Amy does take a jazzy spin on the R&B, rhythmic hit.

Her performance was completely stripped down, with just Amy and her electric guitar for the majority of the song. I actually really liked it, as she was able to showcase her soft, delicate tone. Needless to say, Amy’s version of the song was so different that I wasn’t even mad to hear the song for the millionth time today.

During Amy’s critiques, there was a particularly funny moment, as Blake claims his new girlfriend and fellow mentor Gwen Stefani sang the song to him before (referring to her stint on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon).

Mark Hood

Team Pharrell

“Against All Odds” by Phil Collins

Mark decided he wanted to take on a ballad, so he could show his genuine emotions to the audience. Considering last week he had one of the flashiest, performance-heavy acts, this is a big change for the singer.

He has strong enough vocals to carry out the song; however, I thought his overall performance was mediocre and quite boring. The crowd seemed to disagree, though, as Mark earned himself a huge applause.

Emily Ann Roberts

Team Blake

“Blame It On Your Heart” by Patti Loveless

Last week Emily hit number 2 on the iTunes country chart and has definitely proven she is a strong contender this season. Emily has a unique tone to her voice, which was highlighted in her performance.

She almost looked like a very young Taylor Swift on stage. The only real critique I have for her is that she could improve her stage presence a bit.

Korin Bukowski

Team Gwen

“Titanium” by Sia

While it may not be an Adele song, “Titanium” is about the next hardest thing for a singer to successfully cover. However, quirky Korin evidently identifies with the lyrics and decides to take it on. In addition to coaching her singing, Gwen employs her glam squad to give Korin a platinum blond do.

Overall, Korin does well with the powerful song. She was able to reach all of the high notes and do various runs. Personally, I don’t find her voice to be very original; therefore I have a hard time believing she will make it all the way.

Barrett Baber

Team Blake

“Right Here Waiting” by Richard Marx

Blake and Barrett decided to strip away all of the visuals and opt for a song that would allow Barrett’s vocals to speak for themselves.

He sounded good and seemed to embrace the emotions behind the lyrics, but his voice just doesn’t stand out to me, and I don’t think he has that particular “it” factor needed to win.

Madi Davis

Team Pharrell

“Who Will Save Your Soul” by Jewel

Madi has one of the – if not, the best voices in the competition. She decided to play around with the classic song and infused a reggae vibe into it.

The young artist has that “it” factor that many contestants seem to lack this season. Her performance was fun, dynamic while still being complex enough to show her abilities and range.

Jeffrey Austin

Team Gwen

“Let It Go” by James Bay

Soul and pop singer Jeffrey Austin decided to take on the song “Let It Go,” which was literally a match made in heaven for his voice.  To be honest, I didn’t realize how unique his voice was until I heard him rehearsing the song with Gwen.

He definitely had the most dynamic performance of the night. He has such a strong voice, but also knows how to evoke a more delicate quality as well. Jeffrey definitely won me over this time around!

Additionally, Gwen unleashed her glam squad on Jeffrey, as he donned vibrant red hair during his performance.

Shelby Brown

Team Adam

“In Color” by Jamey Johnson

Shelby, who is the only country artist not on Team Blake, struggled with her confidence during her rehearsals. Unfortunately, she had a hard time controlling her overwhelming emotions but tries to push on for her performance.

Fortunately, Shelby was able to rid her nerves and did awesome during her performance. Although not necessarily the most unique, Shelby’s voice is one of the strongest in the whole competition.

Evan McKeel

Team Pharrell

“This Is It” by Michael Jackson

Evan revealed that he was feeling insecure last week, and it seemed to play out in terms of his stage performance. Thus, this week he pledged to his coach that he was going to bring a more confident, authentic persona.

Although he embraced the whole stage, it still felt awkward to me. In addition, his vocals sounded quite scattered at times. I don’t think it was the right song choice for him, unfortunately.

Jordan Smith

Team Adam

Great is Thy Faithfulness” by Selah

Jordan decided to show off his raw and vulnerable side, by performing a classic gospel hymn.

Once again, Jordan demonstrated his range and accuracy. Personally, I found his performance a bit boring, but he still proved he has one of the best voices in the competition. Nonetheless, he got a standing ovation from the audience and all four coaches.

Afterwards, the coaches commended his performance, claiming it felt like a gift that the world so desperately needed after the recent tragedies.

Zach Seabaugh

Team Blake

“My Love” by Little Texas

Zach surprised audiences with his Elvis-like dance moves last week, so this week Blake and him decided to slow things down. Blake says he hopes it will show Zach’s “romantic side.” While Zach claims he wants to “touch the hearts of America.”

Unfortunately, it was his high energy and dance moves that made him stand out last week – not his vocals. Thus, relying mainly on his vocals this week, his performance fell flat and didn’t have the special quality it had previously.

New Orleans Saints Rob Ryan Fired, Dennis Allen Takes Over & Fans Rejoice

He’s gone, guys! We’re free!

The Who Dat Nation let out a collective sigh of relief today when the firing of New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan became official. Saying it’s about time is an understatement.

There was a little bit of confusion around the situation. It was announced early this morning that Ryan had been canned—rejoice!—but then head coach Sean Payton noted that he was “absolutely” still a member of the staff and that he would be meeting with the GM later about the situation—s***!. Fortunately, they say it the way fans have for the past two years.

“I’m disappointed for Rob that it didn’t work out,” said Payton. “I’ll tell you one thing now: He’s a fantastic staff guy, respected greatly, not only in the locker room but by his peers. And we just had to look closely at some point to at least give this an option because the direction we were heading wasn’t good. We really struggled with substitutions, getting lined up, getting guys on the field and being able to function.”

Yeah, and in stopping the run, making an effort in the passing game, and actually playing defense in general. There’s a reason the Saints are dead last in overall defense this season and on pace to give up the most passing touchdowns in NFL history.

Maybe Dennis Allen will help turn things around. I know the Saints didn’t formally bring him back as an assistant to replace Ryan, but I have a hard time believing that they didn’t foresee a situation like this one.

To give credit where credit is due, Ryan did have a good start to his career in New Orleans. In fact, the Saints defense was No. 4 in 2013. Surprising, I know.

Unfortunately, the good doesn’t even come close to outweighing the bad. The Saints finished 31st in 2014 and are currently dead last this season. Overall, New Orleans has had the statistically worst defense in football since Rob Ryan took over. Exactly what I was afraid of when he was hired. I wanted Romeo Crennel, but nooo.

Ryan had a great run as the New England Patriots linebackers coach, and he even has two Super Bowl rings to show for it. Maybe his linebackers benefited from SpyGate as well, because he has struggled greatly since then as defensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders (2004-2008), Cleveland Browns (2009-2010), Dallas Cowboys (2011-2012), and of course with the Saints since 2013.

Not exactly teams well-known for their defensive prowess.

At least he still has that luscious, flowing hair going for him as he hits the job market.

karl anthony towns andrew wiggins make timberwolves relevant again 2015 nflLast Two 1st Overall Picks Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins Making Minnesota Timberwolves Relevant in Record Time

The year was 2004. The Minnesota Timberwolves lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in 6 games in the Western Conference Finals. Kevin Garnett, the 2003-2004 NBA MVP, was in the prime of his Hall of Fame career.

That’s the last time the Timberwolves qualified for the postseason. They finished with a winning record the next season, but have not won more than 40 games in a season since.

Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio brought some attention back to Minnesota, but even they couldn’t make the T’Wolves relevant.

Before last season, the Timberwolves traded Love to the Cleveland Cavaliers for the last two first overall picks, Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett. Bennett is now with the Toronto Raptors and basically an irrelevant bust, but Wiggins is a well-known baller fresh off his Rookie of the Year season.

However, Wiggins couldn’t stop the ship from sinking without Love, and the Wolves lost 24 more games in 2014-2015, finishing with only 16 wins and earning the first overall selection in the 2015 NBA Draft.

Enter Kentucky superstar Karl-Anthony Towns. A great addition. One that is only made better through the connection with Kevin Garnett, a superstar back where he belongs.

“KG gives me so much knowledge that you can’t never garner without playing years and years in this league,” said Towns on his mentor. “Me and KG have a special connection just because of the positions.”

Years and years may be a bit of an understatement for the sure-fire Hall of Famer playing in his 20th professional season. Despite signing a two-year contract extension this summer, Garnett seems to be treating this season as somewhat of a fair-well tour, maybe—hopefully—leading directly into a coaching career with the T’Wolves.

“He tells them every day, at this point in his career, it’s about them, not him,” said head coach Sam Mitchell. “I wouldn’t trade him off this team for nothing in the world.”

The Timberwolves may not be the most grammatical correct team in the league, but thanks to the young core of Wiggins and Towns along with the veteran guidance of Garnett and Tayshaun Prince, the T’Wolves actually look like a team this year, and that’s an accomplishment in and of itself.

The Wolves are sitting at 4-5 right now. They may not have the league’s best record, but don’t forget that this is a team that won 16 out of 82 games last season. Two of those wins, in particular, were extremely impressive—back-to-back victories over the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks in which Towns, 34 points, and 25 boards in those matchups, and Wiggins, 64 points over those two games, gave us a glimpse of what the future may hold for this young team.

Maybe it’s too early to speculate, but this team has the makings of a great one. Towns’ start to the season is already drawing comparisons to legends like Shaquille O’Neal, Alonzo Mourning, and…well, Kevin Garnett.

Wiggins similarly plays like a vet at only 20, leaning heavily on Garnett’s advice in every aspect of the game. With nearly 20 points per game to match 16 points and 10.5 rebounds from Towns, it’s won’t be long before the duo draws Kobe-Shaq comparisons.

Of course, the toughest part for Towns and Wiggins will be gaining some national recognition for the Timberwolves, an oft forgotten franchise. Love had a hard time making the team relevant, but this super-pair has managed to do so (to a point) within nine games.

“It’s almost like putting a bunch of puppies in a box and shaking it up and watching the puppies go at it a little bit,” said Garnett of playing with such a young, passionate team.

Watch the Timberwolves, but please don’t give Garnett your puppies.

El Clasico Soccer Preview 2015 Real Madrid vs Barcelona

0

el clasico preview 2015 soccer real madric vs barcelona imagesAt the conclusion of the first 11 weeks of Spanish La Liga, the table looks compact at the top with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid separated by just four points from top spot to third. Prior to the last week of league action before the ongoing international break, reigning Spanish champions Barcelona and Real Madrid were tied on points, but a win for the Catalans and the subsequent defeat of Los Blancos has put the reigning champions ahead with a lead of three points. Meanwhile, the 2014 champions, Atletico Madrid are a point behind their illustrious neighbours in third.

The 12th week of action will see arguably the biggest game of the league season across Europe when Real Madrid play host to their fierce rivals Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, 21st November.

Barcelona enjoyed a hugely successful 2014/15 season as they won a historic treble of the league title, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey – their second treble in six years. The Catalans, however, didn’t enjoy the most auspicious of starts to the current season as Athletic Bilbao hammered them 4-0 in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup at the San Mames before completing the job with a 1-1 draw at the Camp Nou to take home the domestic trophy with a 5-1 aggregate win.

On top of it, Luis Enrique’s side have been beset with personnel problems. The Catalan outfit have been banned from registering new players due to their infringements in the transfers of minor players – the ban remains in effect until January next year. The sanction has considerably thinned the resources at the disposal of Enrique, and their problems have been compounded by Pedro Rodriguez’s transfer to Chelsea and numerous injuries to their first team regulars.

Important players like Andres Iniesta, Claudio Bravo, Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic, Rafinha Alcantara and, most importantly, Lionel Messi have endured spells on the sidelines due to various fitness issues. The extended injury list has forced Enrique to play Barcelona B players like Sandro Ramirez, Munir El Haddadi, Gerard Gumbau and a player who was on the fringes of first team action at the beginning of the current season: Sergi Roberto.

However, despite their setbacks Barcelona have coped well and may be able to welcome back Messi into the fold as the Argentine has begun training, according to media reports.

Real Madrid started their campaign in blistering fashion after the first round draw and won their next four games on the trot, before drawing the following two. Three more wins followed before they succumbed to their first loss of the season against Sevilla.

Rafael Benitez’s arrival has considerably strengthened the defence of the Madrid giants, but at the same time, they aren’t scoring as many goals as they did under Carlo Ancelotti last season. Cristiano Ronaldo has thus far failed to replicate his form of the previous seasons and injuries have been a source of trouble for Los Blancos as well as they have had James Rodriguez, Isco, Danilo and Dani Carvajal amongst others, out on injury spells.

The first El Clasico of the season promises to be an enticing affair at the Santiago Bernabeu this weekend.

Manchester City vs Liverpool Soccer Preview 2015

manchester city vs liverpool soccer preview 2015 imagesManchester City will play host to Liverpool in their next Premier League match at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. The Citizens are sitting atop the league standings with a tally of 26 points from their 12 games and are ahead of second-placed Arsenal only on goal difference.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are currently lying in 10th spot, having tallied 17 points from their 12 games thus far. They have appointed Jurgen Klopp at the helm after sacking Brendan Rodgers after a series of unsatisfying results under the Northern Irishman. The German, who was previously in charge of Borussia Dortmund, has overseen seven matches with the Reds and has suffered only one defeat thus far – in his last Premier League encounter against Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace at Anfield.

The Reds have shown considerable improvement under the guidance of the 48-year-old, although it is still too early for the Liverpool players to have completely adapted to the German’s football philosophy.

Klopp started his Premier League journey with a scoreless draw against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane and then his team were held to a 1-1 draw by Ronald Koeman’s Southampton at Anfield. Klopp had his first win the English top flight as his men won 3-1 against Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge courtesy of two splendid strikes from the Brazilian Philippe Coutinho. The German’s only blemish thus far has been the 2-1 reverse against Crystal Palace, and he will be eager to get his side back on track at the Etihad Stadium this weekend.

Manchester City, on the other hand, have been unbeaten in their last five Premier League outings. They have beaten relegation strugglers Newcastle United 6-1, Bournemouth 5-1 and Norwich City 2-1 while playing out scoreless draws against Manchester United and Aston Villa. They were left frustrated by Remi Garde’s Villans in their last league fixture and Manuel Pellegrini will be looking for a strong comeback from his side as they look to build a gap between themselves and second-placed Arsenal, who remain tied on points with the Manchester outfit.

The Citizens have endured injury issues and are without the services of Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Samir Nasri, Pablo Zabaleta and possibly Wilfried Bony. Aguero, who was in splendid form for the side prior to his injury on international duty, will be a significant loss, but his absence will give Pellegrini the opportunity to play Raheem Sterling, who signed for Manchester City from Liverpool in the summer transfer window, as a forward against his former employers.

Sterling is expected to be given a torrid time by the away supporters and will attempt to use it as a catalyst to prove that his move to the Etihad Stadium was justified despite the bad press it generated against him.

Manchester City will start as favourites in the game as the Reds have also been beset with a flurry of injuries to their players. Klopp will be without Danny Ings, Joe Gomez, Jordan Henderson and Mamadou Sakho in the encounter.

Charlie Sheen Comes Out, Khloe Kardashian Poly Fun & Game’s Holiday Package Hits

Monday’s are always crazy, and this one’s no different! Charlie Sheen is coming clean about being HIV-positive after being outed by the National Enquirer, Real Housewives of Atlanta Kenya Moore shows her many shades, Khloe Kardashian is keeping Lamar Odom and James Harden in her camp. The Game wants his fans to see his holiday package early.

Charlie Seen to Announce He’s HIV Positive

This comes as a shocker to the general public I am sure, but for those who have followed Charlie Sheen’s lifestyle and his “bad boy” ways, it almost doesn’t come as that much of a surprise. This is something Sheen obviously was not ready to disclose, but after the National Enquirer outed him and Radar Online ran a blind item that tied the stories together, he had no choice.

Sources close to the actor and the situation says that his family and friends have known for a year now that he is HIV positive. He was diagnosed with the deadly disease about two years ago.

According to People.com, Charlie “is getting treatment, and a lot of people in his life know about it.”

He will interview live on the Today Show, which comes on the heels of a blind piece that RadarOnline did, which in essence broke the story last month. Referring to Sheen as “a bad-boy Tinseltown star” their article went into detail as to when he first found out and how he has been dealing with it since.

As this story picks up steam, the overall consensus seems to be that Charlie didn’t want to come out and say that he has HIV for fear of fans turning on him or it affecting his work. But as Hollywood publicist and crisis manager Howard Bragman told people, the interview should be seen as a good thing.

“The interview could open up a lot of sympathy for him, but he has to be concerned about a fear of litigation from former sexual partners. You don’t take that lightly.”

It’s hard when the error of your ways and destructive patterns catches up to you. And for Charlie Sheen, it has done so in the most horrible way possible.

The blind item story ran this:

Decades of debauchery have finally caught up with one of Hollywood’s top megastars. In a bombshell world exclusive, RadarOnline.com can reveal that a bad-boy Tinseltown star has been hiding an explosive secret from the world: He is HIV-positive.

Multiple informed sources confirm the world-famous actor, whom Radar has chosen not to identify, has been diagnosed with the deadly virus that usually leads to AIDS itself.

The middle-aged star learned at least two years ago that he had contracted HIV — but he has desperately hidden it from the world, terrified his fans will turn against him.

The individual confided this medical bombshell to friends as far back as October 2014.

Without treatment, average survival time after infection with HIV is estimated to be nine to 11 years. Thankfully, the Hollywood figure has so far been successfully treated with an “AIDS Cocktail” of high-powered drugs meant to counteract the effects of the disease, including the medications Truvada and Isentress.

“His medical outlook is positive,” divulged a source.

However, the star — known for a playboy lifestyle filled with one-night stands and sex-for-hire partners — has been “devastated” over his plight since doctors diagnosed the condition, according to a friend.

Radar has learned multiple friends want the star to publicly admit the problem and face reality with courage and determination.

It is not known exactly how the actor contracted the virus, but the star has previously admitted to engaging in tattooing, injecting drugs and having sex with prostitutes — all activities that increase the risk of contracting the virus.

When you check out the National Enquirer story, it was pretty obvious Charlie had to do some crisis management stat!

It’s Shady Off Screen for Real Housewives of Atlanta Cast Members

Let me tell you, the women of the Real Housewives of Atlanta have no chill. One day they are supporting one another’s events and laughing in each other’s faces and the next moment they are kicking and shading.

While there has definitely been a lot of shade throwing on screen, a lot more has happened off screen via interviews and, of course, social media. From Porsha Williams calling last’s night episode of Watch What Happens Live guest starring Kenya Moore “The Horror Film” to Kenya herself saying that she didn’t start the argument with Sharee at Cynthia’s party, it is pretty cold in the RHOA shade.

Kenya has actually become a shade throwing ninja as last night, she also had something to say about Vivica Fox. Not only did she say Vivica is desperate in reference to Andy asking her about the actress’s comments towards her ex 50 from last week’s WWHL, during a segment where Andy asked TPain, the other guest star if he would sleep with Vivica, Kenya called her a booty eater.  I mean, she even kind of shaded sweet to death Kim Fields during the show. You know, when she told her that her skates were probably somewhere on eBay?

Oh, Kenya!

Khloe Kardashian is a Polygamist

It is clear that we misunderstood what Khloe calling off her divorce to Lamar Odom meant as she herself has joked about having a husband and a boyfriend.

Appearing on the Ellen Show to promote her new book she spoke to the talk show host about it as well as Lamar Odom and NBA player James Harden. According to Khloe, Odom doesn’t know what happened or why he ended up in the hospital.

“He’s really confused a lot — sometimes he knows who the president is and his birthday, and sometimes he thinks he’s 26, and I say, ‘I bet you wish you were 26, so do I!”

Me too girl! As far as James goes, he’s been every supportive of her being there for Lamar. Khloe told Ryan Seacrest during another interview,

“James has been great. He’s been very supportive with everything. I’m sure there was, of course, times that he was uncomfortable with some of the things, but I’m a very honest person, and I have nothing to hide.”

Well Khloe, if men can do it, so can you girl.

the game shows off christmas package 2015 gossip

Khloe, trained to dance around a touchy subject easily, is definitely leading fans to wonder just how bad Odom’s possible brain damage is. It’s been weeks now since he was found unconscious at the Nevada brothel, and we’ve been hearing that he’s barely able to say simple sentences now. It’s just a few words at most. “If you didn’t know Lamar, you would think that he had gone through ECT (electro convulsive therapy aka shock treatments),” our source said. “He’s just a shell of his former self, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to get any better. Many of us aren’t happy with how Khloe has taken off leaving him to fend for himself.”

Rapper The Game is no stranger to women fawning over him. I mean, the guy did a Flava of Love type reality TV show on VH1 called She Got Game.

Paris ISIS Attacks Shows Where Media Stands For Ratings

Paris ISIS Attacks Shows Where Media Stands 2015 opinion imagesThe events that happened in Paris on Friday are tragic. They are heart wrenching, and they are disgusting. You know what else conjures up those very same feelings? The 147 Kenyans that were killed back in April of this year. And what’s equally disgusting as the outcomes of both of these events are the people standing “in solidarity” by not offering solace or empathy for Parisians because the media, Facebook and other platforms have given more coverage to the 127 that died in Paris than the 147 that were killed in Africa.

Do I feel a certain kind of way about that? Yes, I do. I wonder why the lives of those who died in Paris seem to deserve more recognition and sympathy than the students who died at Garissa University College, which is what I and others gather from the way in which the media has covered the two massacres.

garissa university college kenya attack 2015 imagesIf you are mad about the fact that you can add a Paris flag filter to your Facebook profile page but was never given the option to do so for Kenya, you have every right to be, but don’t get it twisted as to where that frustration should be directed. The Parisians aren’t the ones in control of what you can do on Facebook so why are you criticizing them during a time of national crisis? It is outrageous to me what certain people are saying about Paris. It’s like they are throwing a temper tantrum because their older sister stole the show at their eighth birthday party. It’s not cool. A life taken through terroristic violence is no less worthy of remembrance because of skin color. I know that you and you know that.

The thing that really burns me up about the complaints is that, of course, they have mostly been by black folks involved in some form or fashion in either Mizzou, the black lives matter movement or other black supported initiatives. They complain that the Paris attacks are “stealing headlines” according to the Washington Post. What the hell people it’s not a fucking competition to see if black folks or white folks have the most tragic incident of the week. It blows my mind that people can’t see past the narrow mindedness of their cause to view the bigger picture. Lives were lost, people, black and white, lost their loved ones. But all we can say is they are stealing our thunder, so I’m going to throw a hissy fit? There are literally no words.

Grow up people, please grow up. I am a proud black woman who is fairly smart and educated. You cannot tell me that I am less black, an uncle Tom, Negro bed wench, cooning or co-conspirator in destroying black people because of my stance on this. I believe that diversity in the media’s coverage needs to take place, but just because they have an agenda to make us feel a certain kind of way about two separate and months apart events doesn’t mean that I do or will. It’s pretty damn ignorant to say, “I’m not supporting Paris because you didn’t support Kenya.”

It’s this kind of mindset that keeps the whole world divided. It cannot be a tit for tat. I am seeing it a lot on my Facebook timeline and other places in social media. People are in their feelings about it. I have black friends who scold others black folks for adding a Paris filter. Honestly, there was no damn Kenya filter to add to our profile pictures when it happened, and we didn’t even think to complain then about one. In fact, I think the first time they even offered a filter was with the marriage equality act, and that was in July. But I am aware this is more about adding colors over your fav pic of the week.

Don’t start beef and fights and bring up shit if you are not going to address it to the right people and they are the newspapers, Facebook, CNN, Fox News and other media influencers.

Here’s the thing that happens when black people seem to have a double standard or not show the same kind of compassion they are looking for; it leads people who want to see us fail to do things that add fuel to the fire. Right now, there is a #fuckparis hashtag on Twitter, and I’d like to believe that it was not started by black people. I’d like to believe that despite what people are saying about Black Lives Matter coming up with the hashtag, they didn’t. Because if it turns out that they actually did start it, it’s the last nail in their coffin as their credibility, motives and effectiveness are constantly questioned. It will prove the proverbial crab in a barrel cliché.

We are better than this. We are more caring and smarter than to let social media platform’s neglect to offer a way to show support for a tragic event bring out the ugliness in us. That is not what the struggle and the quest for change are about. Tearing down others to rise to the top is what people with ulterior and impure intentions do.

Pray for Paris not because the media is telling us to and pray for Kenya not because they share your ancestry. Pray for the whole world because it’s the right thing to do.
