‘Being Mary Jane’ 307 Sister Shaming

being mary jane 307 sister shaming 2015 imagesThis week on “Being Mary Jane,” it’s MJ’s birthday, and she is going all about for it. As she’s cruising in her new Tesla throwing it up, she stops in her tracks when she drives past Mark’s house and sees a ‘for sale’ sign. She pulls into his driveway and confronts about his leaving, but there is nothing that she can say that will make him stay. He’ ready to go to Nigeria and whatever happens, happens.

As she’s going off on him, Patrick calls her because her mom fell and hit her head. She rushes to the house only to find Patrick cooking and her mother sleep. And when PJ shows up, it tips her off that they are more than likely throwing a surprise birthday party for her. Especially since they ask her to come back later to “help out with mom.”

The next day at work, Patrick seems to be excelling and is clearly getting better at his job. His co-worker invites him for some “donuts” in the break room, and we find out that what he really means is snort drugs. Come on Patrick, you know nothing good will come from this.

Niecy is school by her friends on how it goes when you work at the mall. According to them, everyone shares their discounts so that they can stay fly while on a budget. She looks hesitant but gives in to their plan.

They go shopping and plan to enact their discount, and it works like a charm. Nicey is hooked and promises to do the same for her next week for a flatiron.

Mark shows Kara the coverage package that he and his crew put together, and she loves it. They share a moment where he confides in her that he will miss her the most.

At work, Kara and the primetime team throw her a little party with cake and balloons. One of the crew members pulls her aside and asks her about her brother who works for a company in Los Angeles that has just been accused of bid rigging. She doesn’t believe that her brother is involved but says she’ll look at his email anyway.

Kara and MJ talk after her show, and Kara tells her how horny she is, being that she is living with her ex which is a drag on her love life. MJ asks her about her feeling with Mark leaving and she doesn’t like it, mostly because it means she has to really work now. She tells her friend about the surprise party her family is throwing and Kara

She walks into the house with a “surprise” look on her face, but there is no party. In fact, it is empty. PJ finds her and tells her that she doesn’t need to stay because mom is good. “Damn, ya’ll really forgot my birthday.” She then confronts him about bid rigging, and he doesn’t deny it. He tells her he has everything under control, and she tells him that he’s the fall guy. “You need to get out now.” She keeps it real with him letting her brother know that $25 million (what he stands to gain from the deal) is a lot of money but it’s too dangerous.

Mary Jane gives her mother a bath, and she is clearly distracted. Helen tells her she’s fine and asks for a towel because it’s cold. She helps her mother to her bed and gives Helen her medicine. It’s a very somber moment. As she lies down, she moans about her leg and MJ messages it for her. It’s different seeing MJ not be the center of attention, especially on her birthday.

Downstairs, Nicey comes in with all her bags, and MJ goes in on her about spending half her paycheck on stuff that she doesn’t need. “Is it always going to be like this between us,” she asks her aunt. MJ’s dad takes up for Nicey, but it’s too late because she is pissed. She snatches her bags and walks away. But that is nothing compared to the bomb MJ drops on her father. While discussing their feelings about what Niecy should be doing, she confesses that she had an abortion. You can feel the hurt in her father’s eyes, not just at what she just said but at the fact that she feels forgotten because it’s her birthday. “Baby, come here, come here.” And he takes his daughter into his arms.

MJ goes home, and Mark is waiting for her with a mini cake. Mark has already sold his house.” You know us, gay boys, we are experts at curating houses that people want.” They talk about his going to London and then to Nigeria, and MJ is truly going to miss him. He tells her, “ I love you Mary Jane, and I don’t know everything.”

We see a flashback of his last broadcast and a going away party at work, and it’s bittersweet for everyone.

He and MJ dance the night away in her kitchen.

Tom Hardy’s ‘Legend’ Not So Legendary Movie Review

tom hardys legend not so legendary 2015 imagesLegend Movie Review

When you set out to make a movie about infamous historical figures like the Kray twins, you run the risk of the film not going over so well from the mere standpoint of how you choose to tell the story. And that what seems to be the consensus of Tom Hardy’s latest film “Legend.”

Set in the 1960 London gangster world, I personally think the movie is good, but I am looking at it from a filmmaker’s standpoint (story, emotion, cinematography, acting) and not taking into consideration the obvious historical inaccuracies it contains. I will be honest here, though, learning the truth through my research about the characters after the fact and matching that to what I saw on screen did lesson the effect of the movie on me. But I stand by my initial comment that Legend is good. So let’s look at what makes it good first.

Tom Hardy! The man is beautiful there is no denying that, and the awesome thing about him is that he is a damn good actor. I mean if you remember him in Inception, he stole every scene. So it really should come as no surprise that his portrayal of both Reggie and Ronnie Kray is magnificent. From the moment you first see him as Reggie, very smooth, debonair and strong, you are drawn to him. While his take on Reggie is definitely noteworthy, it is perhaps his interpretation of Ronnie that steals the show. He is a totally different person, in how he carries himself, his speech, his look his build, which is clearly seen when both characters are on screen together. Hardy really nailed the differences in the brothers, and that in and of itself is commendable.

As good as Hardy is in the movie (which really saves the film for me), there are some issue that I have with it that take away from the overall quality. Starting with the woman they cast as Francis Shea. Played by Emily Browning, her character narrates the movie, which was an interesting aspect being that she dies in the film (oh come on you know she dies). Her character is written as a weak woman who succumbed to the lifestyle of Reggie, the Kray brother she married, and his criminal activity. Along with that, and this is no shade to her, but the real Francis was not a skinny, helpless, innocent little girl. She, according to her own writings and the writings of her family, in particular, her niece Francis Shea, was wild and vivacious and voluptuous. The creators of the film stayed true to the size and personality of the brothers (for the most part) why could they not have done the same for the only leading female character?

The other issue I have with the film is that there is no clear cut climax. We see how the brothers interact with each other, how they deal with other gangsters, how Ronnie loves young boys, how Reggie is the mastermind behind the whole ring, much to his brother’s chagrin and how his love story unfolds with Francis. But what we don’t see and what we don’t get is a climax with a satisfying end. The two possible scenes, on of which I am sure Brian Helgeland (screenwriter) probably meant as the climax are Francis killing herself via an overdose and her brother finding her and Reggie killing one of his men during a Christmas party. But we shouldn’t have to guess, and neither one of them provides the feeling that the story has come to a high point and is now concluding.

My issues aside, the movie is getting a lot of flack because of the contents or lack thereof, in the on-screen story. The Kray twins are notorious gangsters so their story is very well known and the omission of the major aspects of their lives and business has not set well with people. For instance, the speculation that Reggie was also gay (and Ronnie’s lover) nor Francis’ leaving Ronnie two weeks after they married were addressed in the movie. Among those omitted elements are a host of other backstory misses that fans of the Kray twins just can’t get past and that has had an effect on the films reception.

I can get past all of that, however, because Hardy’s performance is that strong. If you are looking to learn more about the Krays from this film, then you will be disappointed. If you are looking for a good gangster flick, you will be disappointed. The truth is Legend is a movie starring a hell of an actor whose interpretation of the material given to him is worth seeing, and that’s pretty much the jist of it. I give it 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Fantasy Football Start Em & Sit Em NFL Week 12: T.J. Yeldon & Tyrod Taylor

fantasy football start em sit em week 12 2015 images nflWith Joe Flacco and every running back ever getting injured this past week, fantasy owners are getting more and more depressed as their records continue to slip right before playoff time. Cheer up, fantasizers! This can be the week you turn it all around! But you’ll have to set your lineup first. Here’s a little help:

T.J. Yeldon, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars: Running backs haven’t been overly friendly to owners through 12 weeks. Justin Forsett, Marshawn Lynch, Charcandrick West, Frank Gore, and Devonta Freeman could all miss this week, so it’s time to put some fantasy backups in the RB1 slot.

Yeldon is a fantastic option. He may only have two touchdowns this season, but he does have some double-digit games from earlier in the year. Besides, let’s face it, you don’t have many other options. Fortunately, the San Diego Chargers have allowed at least 10 points to nearly every running back they’ve faced.

Yeldon has had a tough few weeks, but he’s healthy, and he has a real chance to shine against the Chargers. Definitely worth a shot if you can get your hands on him, or a cheap RB for Draft Kings leagues.

Tyrod Taylor, QB, Buffalo Bills: Taylor tweaked his shoulder a bit on the road against the New England Patriots, but he’s expected to be a go for this weekend against the Kansas City Chiefs. That’s not necessarily a good thing.

The Chiefs started the season as one of the worst teams in the league in pass defense; however, they completely flipped the script seemingly overnight. The past five weeks have seen absolute lockdown defense from Kansas City with no quarterback scoring more than 11 points, including a pathetic five-point performance by Philip Rivers in San Diego this past weekend.

Taylor may be able to go, but he won’t be making it very far against the Chiefs defense. Of course, if Flacco was your starter (which makes me question your decisions in the first place), Taylor could be your only option. Avoid if possible.

Johnny Manziel Downgraded to QB No. 3 After Yet Another Party Video

0

johnny manziel downgraded to qb 3 2015 nfl imagesAnd just like that, the first Johnny Football era in Cleveland is over.

We knew Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine wasn’t happy that the fans and front office pressured him into starting Johnny Manziel at quarterback, and sure enough he found the fastest, easiest way out of it.

Pettine announced Tuesday that Manziel had been downgraded to No. 3.

Josh McCown will be the starting quarterback on Monday Night against the Ravens,” said Pettine. “I informed the quarterbacks of that decision after I sat down and spoke with Johnny, [John DeFilippo], and [Kevin O’Connell] after practice today. Johnny will be the third quarterback. I’ve spoken to [Ray Farmer] and [Jimmy Haslam] to inform them of my decision, and they are in full support.”

So basically, a video of Manziel partying with champagne in hand less than a month after finishing his rehab arose over the bye week. Pettine saw the old video, convinced the owners, managers, and everyone else in the organization that this was embarrassing to the Browns franchise as a whole and that Manziel needed to be punished, and then threw him to the bottom of the barrel before arguably the team’s easiest game of the season at home against the Joe Flacco-less Baltimore Ravens.

“Everyone in this organization wants what is best for Johnny,” said Pettine, lying through his teeth. “Just like we do for every player in our locker room. I’m especially disappointed in his actions and behavior because he has been working very hard. The improvements from last year to this year have been tremendous, but he still has to consistently demonstrate that he has gained a good understanding of what it takes to be successful at the quarterback position on this level. It goes well beyond the field. We are going to continue to support him in every way possible, but at this point, we’ve decided it’s best to go with Josh as the starter going forward.”

An easy win for Johnny, one which would have only increased fan support, is now a chance for Pettine to throw McCown back into favor with everyone.

With the end of the first Johnny Manziel era in Cleveland, the Pettine era also comes to an end (there is a God!). Looks like we’ll have to wait till Week 1 of 2016 to see Manziel back on the field—with a new coach who doesn’t hate his guts.

Holly Holm Lost On Beyonce & Tyler vs 50 Cent now

In time for your Thanksgiving stuffing and turkey, Holly Holm might have been the first to bring down UFC champ Ronda Rousey, but she had no idea of who Beyonce was even after meeting her! Morgan Freeman is in a legal tussle and Tyler the Creator is picking some beef with 50 Cent.

Holly Holm Doesn’t Know Who Beyoncé Is?

She may have handed Ronda Rousy the first defeat of her career, but that doesn’t mean she keeps up with pop culture.

Holly Holm, the new UFC champion, while making her appearance rounds, ran into Jay-Z at a Las Vegas view party for the Miguel Cotto-Canelo Alvarez pay-per-view fight. When he introduces her to his wife, holy asks,

“Oh, hi, what is your name?”

According to an interview she had on KRQE in Albuquerque, she told them hose embarrassed she was because come on, everyone knows who the hell Jay Z’s wife is.

“As I’m shaking her hand, I keep thinking to myself: Why did I just say that? Why did I just say that that’s Beyoncé. So then Jay-Z is asking me about the fight, and I can’t even focus on what he’s saying because I just put my foot in my mouth.”

She apologized to Bey who was gracious, and I am not going to give Holy a hard time simply because she was probably nervous and people say crazy things when they are nervous.

Morgan Freeman In Legal Battle Over Step-Granddaughter’s Estate?

Actor Morgan Freeman lost his step-granddaughter E’Dena Hines when she was allegedly killed by her boyfriend, and now, he is fighting to protect her assets from her father.

According to court papers, the 33 year old’s $791,000 estate consisted of the NYC apartment Freeman bought her. He bough it for here with the notion that it would be passed down to her kids and so on or to her mom.

Freeman and his lawyers argue that along with the property, he set up a trust her name that her father Edward Lee Hines would stand to gain as well, but since he and E’Dena didn’t really have a relationship her entire life, he does not want her “deadbeat dad” to get anything. As per court documents:

“…From the time that E’Dena was approximately three and a half years old and until the Thanksgiving before her death, E’Dena met with Edward Lee Hines only one or two times.”

As far as the man accused of killing her Lamar Davenport, he has pleaded not guilty and will appear in court on December 15th.

Porsha Williams and Claudia Jordan Still at Odds; Kenya Misses Her Friend

Ever wondered was became of the strained relationship Porsha Williams and Claudia Jordan had during the 7th season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta now that Jordan is off the show? Well, if you were hoping for it all to be for ratings and the two really are friends, you might as well let that go. They are not.

Andy asked Porsha after the show this week if she still see Claudia Jordan. She answered

“No, I don’t see her actually at all. No, I didn’t see her when she was here, and I don’t see her now.”

Porsha goes on to say that Claudia was fired from Dish Nation per Andy asking her that question, which was really messy of him because we all know that she’s not there anymore. Come on Andy. Everything Porsha said leads us to believe that she is glad the Claudia is gone, but not all RHOA cast members feel the same way.

Kenya believes that Claudia should still be on the show and expressed her feelings about the cast mix-ups when a fan asked her, via Twitter, if she is happy about the cast changes and she replied:

“Absolutely not @claudiajordan was good for our show and I miss her presence #RHOA.”

There are a lot of theories as to why Claudia was released from her contract in the first place, but I guess we will never really know.

Tyler the Creator Disses 50 Cent

During a Rolling Stone interview, the 24-year-old rapper addressed the problem rappers run into when they try to recreate the magic of their successful album. And in explaining what he meant, she threw some shade at 50 Cent.

“We get stuck in nostalgia…  50 Cent was stuck, trying to make the same album three times and now look.”

His comments were a part of his response to criticism of his Cherry Bomb album, which he believes is his best work yet. Apparently fans are not really feeling it but that’s okay because he understands that artists grow and that’s what music is about.

I wonder if 50 Cent will respond to his comments.

Black Friday & Cyber Monday Scams To Avoid

black friday scams to avoid 2015 tech imagesBlack Friday and Cyber Monday is upon us, so we know after we scarf down that Thanksgiving meal, it’s time to get ready for some hardcore shopping online or in-stores. Either way, there’s going to be places and people out there trying hard to scam you. They’ve planned all year kn0wing that the holidays are one of the easiest times to scam and rake in your hard earned money.

We’ve researched, and our readers have also alerted us to five of the biggest scams out there this holiday season. Be ready, read and know you’ll be one of the lucky ones who got to avoid being taken this Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Check here for all the updated store hours of all major retailers.

Dubious delivery confirmations

Many Black Friday shoppers go online to buy their gifts, and scammers know it.

Fraudsters have been known to send out fake emails supposedly confirming the delivery of purchased products but filled with phishing links and virus-filled downloads. This is especially problematic for shoppers who indeed have made online purchases and are awaiting the arrival of legitimate delivery confirmations, but get these phony ones instead.

Before you click on any links within a delivery confirmation email, always check the sender’s email address to see if it’s from the retailer or the delivery service in question. When in doubt, go directly to the store’s website, log into your account and check your order status there.

Finally, keep in mind that deliveries to your door can be a big target for holiday-time thieves who follow delivery trucks and grab packages after the truck pulls away. Track your deliveries and be aware of when a package will hit your porch so you can arrange to get it inside right away, or arrange delivery to your workplace if possible.

Digital double-timing

It’s something we’ve seen Black Friday after Black Friday, but still the scam persists online phishing. Whether sending to your email inbox or posting in your social media news feed, scammers will undoubtedly pepper you with bogus sale and coupon links this Black Friday.

And it’s not just email or social media — it can extend to text messages, too, according to cyber security giant Norton. Norton reports that some scammers send texts to consumers, pretending to warn them of suspicious activity in their financial account and asking for them to call a bogus number — where they’ll be asked to share sensitive information. And after all the Black Friday purchases you’ve made, you may very well think such an alert is real.

If you receive such a notification, contact your financial institution directly rather than using the number the text provides. That way, you’ll ensure you’re really talking to your bank or credit card company, not a scammer.

Similarly, keep an eye out for vishing. It’s just like phishing, except it occurs over the phone. When unsolicited callers contact you, always ask what business they’re calling from, then hang up and call that institution’s actual phone number listed on its website.

Faux online stores

It’s not just emails and text messages that scammers use to promise fake deals. Black Friday shoppers can also be lured in by phony websites that promise low prices on popular products.

“Beware of pop-up shops that show up around the holidays, as these stores can disappear before you know it,” the Better Business Bureau warned shoppers before Black Friday 2014.

According to the BBB, the best way to counteract this scam is to buy only from retailers you trust and visit only the official websites of well-known and well-established stores. When in doubt, research the store online to find customer reviews. Also, try to locate a phone number and address for a physical store location.

Gift card gimmicks

Gift cards may be one of your go-to purchases, but you may need to rethink these convenient gifts.

If you buy gift cards on Black Friday from third-party sellers, you could be greeted with a counterfeit product, used gift card or none at all. Rather than risking buying from unknown online sellers, buy directly from the retailer itself — or, for the convenience of one-stop shopping, from a grocery store’s display of multiple retailers’ cards.

black friday deals amazon 2015 imagesEndless exclusions

Finally, while some of the biggest deals you’ll see this Black Friday will come from retailers, some of the biggest pitfalls will, too.

While not necessarily a “scam,” Black Friday exclusions are one more thing to watch out for. Shoppers often fall for promises of big sales and deep discounts before finding out the product they want isn’t eligible for the promotion or it requires a mail-in rebate in order to receive the price. Not all sales are as sweeping as they seem.

Major retail stores will pull out all the stops this Black Friday, offering free shipping, percent-off discounts and more. But always read the fine print. For instance, Macy’s is giving 2015 Black Friday customers coupons for $10 off a purchase of $25 or more or $20 off a purchase of $50 or more, but these discounts only apply to select sale and clearance apparel and home items. They also can’t be used on doorbusters or deals of the day.

Tips for safe and savvy Black Friday shopping

Regardless of when, where or how you shop, follow these tips to stay safe this Black Friday.

Know your deals. Plan out your deal-shopping strategy before you step foot in any store. Review a retailer’s Black Friday advertisement so you know exactly when a sale will be available (some deals only last for a limited time) and how many units will be offered (some doorbusters are sold in extremely limited quantities).

Keep your financial information secure. When shopping online, only make transactions over a secure Internet connection (look for the “https” at the beginning of the website’s URL). No matter where you shop, use a credit card instead of a debit card so you can dispute any suspicious charges.

Read the return policy. Before you buy anything on Black Friday, do a little research. In the event your item turns out to be less than satisfactory, you’ll need to know if, how and for how long you can return or exchange it. Return policies will differ from store to store and by type of product.

Black Friday Shopping Tips & Tricks

black friday shopping ticks tricks 2015 imagesBlack Friday and Cyber Monday 2015, are going to be filled with some of the season’s best deals on just about everything and anything you want this holiday season – but, you must be a savvy shopper and come prepared to get the best of the best and the most bang for your buck.

One thing to remember, above all else, is to do your research before you venture out in the crowds – or online. This is true especially for big-ticket items such as televisions and electronics of all types. Check here for all the updated store hours of all major retailers.

Keeping checking our Black Friday section as we’ll continually update it along with Cyber Monday for your shopping convenience. You can also check out Amazon’s Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals here as they’ll keep changing as fast as a Kardashian’s Instagram page.

Read all the consumer report reviews of items you’re interest in before you sign on the dotted line. You might see a product that seems like a real bargain because it’s rock bottom cheap and get bad deals because it’s poorly made and without quality features.

Before you set out for the stores or open your laptop, be sure you have the ads in hand of the stores where you want to shop. Many stores offer matching low prices on items, and it’s best to have the ad to show them as proof.

Another good tip for saving money on your holiday shopping items is to use the store credit cards for your sale shopping. Watch out for substantial interest charges, but if you pay them off right away, you may get bargain discounts and warranties.

Also, watch for night owl and early bird special sales. These usually go on between about 4 PM and 11 AM to draw people to the stores that prefer to shop in the evening hours rather than early in the morning, but you can find good deals no matter what time you venture out.

You can also beat the main crowds. Beware of return policies. You’ll want to avoid stores that don’t offer liberal exchange or returns on items that may not fit or that charge a restocking fee.

And by all means, keep your receipts. Some stores are even offering gift receipts that you can include in the gift, but won’t reveal how much you spent for it. Be sure and ask if the store you’re shopping in has such a policy.

Black Friday websites that alert you of the best bargains and list the stores with the best deals sometimes have tips and suggestions that can help make your holiday gift buying less frustrating and more enjoyable.

Forewarned is forearmed, so remember to get as much knowledge as you can before shopping to be sure you get the best bargains and have the best experience possible.

black friday deals amazon 2015 imagesGoogle has also help all of you Black Friday & Cyber Monday shoppers with these additional tips:

The search giant has come up with three tips after crunching data from a sample of U.S. users who turned on location history in November and December of last year.

Tip 1: Shop in the morning, late afternoon or evening on Friday. According to Google, Black Friday store foot traffic peaks between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Tip 2: Avoid electronics and cellphone stores. Those have the highest foot traffic of the season on Black Friday. Foot traffic to electronics stores is twice as high on Black Friday than other weekends during the holiday season. At cellphone stores, the traffic is 1.6 times as high, Google says.

On the other hand, shopping malls, discount stores, superstores and department stores have the highest foot traffic on the Saturday before Christmas. Dollar stores have the most foot traffic from last-minute and stocking-stuffer shoppers on Christmas Eve.

Tip 3: If you are looking for something in particular, check if the store has it in stock before venturing out. Many stores show in-store availability on their websites. Google also shows product availability for nearby stores on smartphones.

Interesting factoids: Mobile searches per user are 11% higher in electronics stores and 8% higher in department stores on Black Friday compared with other weekends during the holiday season, Google says. And holiday shoppers are expected to rely on their smartphones more than ever to research and compare products, with 82% of smartphone users pulling out their devices while in a store this year.

‘The Voice’ 911 Pharrell’s Team Not So ‘Happy’

The Voice'911 Pharrell's Team Not 2015 imagesTonight, NBC aired this week’s Live Eliminations on The Voice. Today’s show was another round of Live Eliminations, as the Top 11 singers were cut down to become the Top 10.

Weirdly enough, the singers who got top rankings on the iTunes chart this week were eerily similar to those who managed to do so last week. It seems like there are already some favorites amongst viewers, so we will have to see if the outsiders can somehow get into this inner circle in the coming weeks.

The show begins with host Carson Daly announcing that every single one of the contestants was able to get their performance on the iTunes Top 100, with Amy Vachal beating out Jordan Smith for the top spot.

Right away, Carson gets into the results. He reveals that the first two safe artists are Team Adam’s Amy Vachal and Team Gwen’s Braiden Sunshine.

I am in no way surprised that Amy was safe yet again as her performance of “Blank Space” was even better than her cover of “Hotline Bling” she did last week (which was still pretty good). In addition, she got a few votes added to her total by landing the top spot on iTunes. However, I am incredibly surprised that Braiden got saved. I have no idea why he is still being voted in, other than maybe his youth factoring in and swaying over some voters.

While Carson does get a few questions in between announcing the results, it isn’t long till he reveals the next two artists who are safe: Zach Seabaugh (Team Blake) and Jordan Smith (Team Adam). I am not shocked to see Zach and Jordan move on. Jordan has more than proved himself as a talented vocalist and Zach is undoubtedly winning over every teenage girl’s vote in America.

Last week we were given a performance from Team Pharrell and Team Blake. Thus, this week Team Gwen hits the stage. Along with their coach, Korin, Jeffrey, and Braiden sing “You Get What You Give” by New Radicals. Usually, I am not one to enjoy the group performances, but I thought the song really fit the diversity of the group. However, Jeffrey Austin was the only one who could fully keep up with Gwen’s signature sound. Although, Korin did have a few good moments, as she showcased her upper register.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, the “family” of artists is shown having a banquet dinner together. Barrett announces that they are all going to write down something that they are thankful for and then everyone is going to guess who wrote what. After some corny jokes and exaggerated smiles, the segment ends and we get back to the results.

The next two singers safe are Madi Davis of Team Pharrell and Emily Ann Roberts of Team Blake. As far as country singers go, I like Emily and think she has a real future in music. And of course, I am very happy Madi Davis is in it for another week, but I was more than expecting this outcome.

Adam, who I just noticed, has hair now, joins his team on stage for the second group performance of the night. Jordan, Shelby, Amy and Adam collaborate on “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” by the Beach Boys. Unfortunately, it seems like Adam did not have a good night with his singing, as he was the weak link of the performance. Normally he is not too bad of a singer, but he was definitely off tonight, and I think even he realized it.

It wasn’t only Adam who had a bit of a rough night; after the performance, Carson made a slight error when reading out the results. Initially, he calls out the next safe artist to be from Team Adam. However, at this point only Shelby is left from the team. Therefore, after a few confused glares are given amongst the contestants, Carson corrects himself and announces that Team Gwen’s Jeffrey Austin is safe.

Following Jeffrey, Carson announces that Team Blake’s Barrett Baber and Team Adam’s Shelby Brown are the last two artists to be completely safe for the next round.

This means that Evan McKeel (Team Pharrell) and Korin Bukowski (Team Gwen) are left singing for the Instant Save. Evan kicks it off with Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together.” Unfortunately, it sounds the same as all of his past performances: flat and dull.

Shortly after, Korin takes the stage with Maroon 5’s “She Will Be Loved.” While in theory I thought that Korin was going to runaway with this final showdown, but her performance was also lacking tonight. She felt very low energy and had several moments where she was completely off-key.

Nonetheless, after the show returns from its final commercial break, Carson announces that yet again Korin wins the Instant Save. Thus, Pharrell is left with one contestant in the game: Madi Davis (seeing that Evan was sent home). Fortunately for him, Madi is a real contender this season.

You can catch the Top 10 performing on The Voice next Monday, November 30 at 8 pm on NBC.

Kaley Cuoco’s Cover Up & Gigi Hadid Hangtime With Zayn Malik

gigi hadid hangtime with zayn malik 2015 gossipWhile it may have only been a couple of weeks ago that Gigi Hadid and Joe Jonas announced their split, it doesn’t mean that Gigi isn’t ready to dive into her next relationship. After several months of dating Gigi and Joe decided to call it quits, as they each wanted to focus on furthering their careers. However, recent pictures of Gigi from Sunday have fans speculating that perhaps she is focusing on more than simply her modeling career.

On Sunday, Gigi was photographed hopping into former One Direction singer Zayn Malik’s car. Both of the young stars attended an American Music Awards after-party in West Hollywood earlier in the night.

A witness claims, “Zayn was not with Gigi inside the party. He came to pick her up afterwards. Gigi walked out the front of the restaurant and hopped in the car with him.”

However, sources close to the stars remain adamant that the two are nothing more than friends. A source explains, “They are just friends and are casually hanging out. She is not looking to jump into another relationship so soon. Gigi is a relationship-type kinda girl, but she wants to just have some fun and take time for herself and her career at the moment. Zayn is a good friend of Selena Gomez and her whole gang of friends.”

So, while it appears that Gigi and Zayn are nothing more than friends at this point in time, it doesn’t mean that the Internet won’t continue to run wild with speculation of a blossoming romance between the two.

kaley cuoco coverup 2015 gossipIn September, The Big Bang Theory actress Kaley Cuoco announced that she was getting a divorce from her husband (at-the-time), Ryan Sweeting. This announcement came after a little under two years of marriage.

While Kaley continues to heal and move on from the separation, she is still trying to erase some of the memories from her failed marriage.

On Tuesday, Kaley shared a photo of her hunched over in a tattoo parlor chair. The actress was not there to get a motivational quote about moving on.  Rather, she was there to get a specific tattoo covered up.

The tattoo was the Roman numerals for 12-31-13 on her upper back. This just so happens to be the date that Kaley walked down the isle and finalized her marriage with Ryan.

Alongside the picture, Kaley jokingly wrote, “Thank you [Justin Nero Christian of Studio City Tattoo] for helping me right my wrongs…note to self – do not mark your body with any future wedding dates #under30mistakes #donttakeyourselftooseriouslykids”

Kaley Cuoco, Instagram post:

kaley cuoco new tattoo 2015 gossipKaley opted for a large-winged butterfly-like insect on her upper back. The new tattoo is relatively large and, therefore, was able to fully cover her previous tattoo.

While it is refreshing to see Kaley take such a humorous and light-hearted approach to the situation, I hope her situation serves as a lesson to all future tattoo customers. Evidently, you definitely need to think critically when choosing what you want to permanently embed into your skin for the world (and yourself) to see.

Heroes & Zeros: Patti Labelle & Patti Labelle

0

heroes zeros patti labelle 2015 imagesThe latest hero and zero is the same person because sometimes you can turn your win into a loss when you don’t know how to humble yourself. For that very reason, I am renaming this week’s piece to winner and loser.

Hero/Winner: Patti Labelle

We all first knew her as the powerhouse frontwoman for a funky girl band that has given us some of the best songs of the last century. We know the lyrics to her tunes and on too many occasion try to impersonate her dance moves. Then she branched into being a spokesperson for One Touch insulin monitoring systems. Because of her we can never forget that “One Touch changes everything.”

Her most recent endeavor, Patti’s Sweat Potato Pies, have us flocking to all the Wal-Marts in our towns because who doesn’t love a good sweet potato pie and with Thanksgiving in a few days, I am sure that people all over the country have stockpiled them. In fact, it is rumored that they are selling for up to $100 on craigslist and eBay.

Her pies have sold out and made $2.4 million in one week across the country, and Patti has social media and James Wright to thank for that. The man’s so YouTube review of her pies no doubt propelled the sales. It is definitely an entertaining thing to see, as he incorporates her songs into showing his love for her pies.

Patti has called him and thanked him for his review, and there is no doubt that he is the driving force behind her sales. Other people have tried to do their own videos, which utterly fall short of the magic Wright created with his, but he started a trend nonetheless that is enabling him to have his fifteen minutes of fame because he really does have a beautiful voice, and has breathed fresh air into Patti and her pies.

Patti Labelle’s sweet potato pies selling out and her gracious and appreciative gestures toward the man responsible make her a winner.

Sadly, it took a lot of heat for Patti to have to do more than just a simple phone call, she’s invited James Wright over for a Thanksgiving dinner which is something at least. She’s finally stopped trying to discount what he’s done for her. Now if she could get him to help with her albums that just don’t sell anymore, that would be a very smart move!

Zero/Loser: Patti Labelle

This situation is the perfect of example of what it looks like when people, in particular celebrities, don’t give honor to where honor is due. Yes, Patti acknowledges that James Wright videos were nice and that he is a beautiful person, but she will not give him credit for being the main factor as to why they sold out. According to Diva, it was all her, and that’s a real loser move.

Patti Labelle Fails On James Wright But She Finally Did Right

For some reason, this whole thing with Patti LaBelle and her pies has got me all in my feelings. It’s not the selling out and making millions of dollars in a week that has got me feeling a certain kind of way. It’s the fact that this woman, who has scores of fans all over the world; who has traveled the globe and has more money than she can count, refuses to give the man (James Wright) that aided in the successful marketing of her pies proper credit.

I spoke about it in the latest Heroes and Zeroes and in this For the Record, I am digging deeper into it what I believe it means because it speaks to a mindset and behavior that plagues the black community. It’s the notion that a lot of times, there’s too much shade, too much backbiting and too much hating going on and it debilitates black folks; The whole crabs in a bucket saying. You know the one where what we do and say (or don’t do and say) hurts other members of our community, and it is a travesty.

The thing about Patti saying that she is the sole reason her pies sold out and James Wright is a “nice” and “lovely” person is that she is dismissing what we know and in doing so, gives us an interesting narrative on the way black people deal with black people. We are so afraid to come off a certain way to people that we will look stupid ignoring the obvious.

We can say all we want about the “white man keeping us down” but that aside, because it does have its share of truth, it’s us. We are the ones who aid in our destruction, downfall and continued stagnation just as much as a biased system. When we can’t even humble ourselves enough to say yes, this person did a great job, and I would not have been able to do this without them, it leaves no room for true collaboration, true unity.

People want to say that Patti is throwing James Wright “low key” shade but no she’s not. She is giving it to him in his face, straight up. But what can you expect in a world where “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” who makes star-monsters like NeNe Leakes and who’s cast members like Kenya Moore major in shade, are the leading examples of black people on television?

In fact, they and other warped views are the only representation we see of black people on TV right now. We have messed up family dynamics on Empire, a side chick who can’t leave her married suga daddy alone on Scandal, an angry black woman with no chill on Being Mary Jane and fighting, lying, sexing, and more fighting on reality shows. The only exception to what now has become the rule (it seems) is Blackish, but one show can’t contend with a boatload of bullshit.

Black people have been taught from way back to think of themselves first, and it is understandable. We have lost our identities to a fucked up world system so the only logical step, to gain some kind of authority, is to lose our souls, which we have done through TV and rap. But doing so for the cost of having a piece of a pie that wasn’t meant for us comes at too great a price.

We are not crabs who latch on to each other to prevent our fellow man from getting ahead or in this case, who don’t want to put out the effort to pull up someone who did us a solid. We are kings and queens who have been lost our way and are in need of character building lessons here and there. Can the first one be “no more shade,” which isn’t always just about the words we speak but about the actions that negatively manifests itself in the lives of others.

I promise I will get off of this soapbox to never speak of it again after this article, but who the hell is Patti Labelle to take all the credit?  Most people, including myself, said they never even heard of the damn pies before the video. How can you be that stuck up to say it was all you Patti?

In today’s society, nothing is all “me” when it comes to many successes, and we need to start making that known because guess what? IT’S. OKAY

UPDATE:

Patti LaBelle caught some heat after taking credit for her sudden increase of pie sales — despite the entire world attributing the spike to James Wright’s viral video review.

It seems as though Patti’s realize the err of her ways and is now giving James his due credit…AND she has invited him over for Thanksgiving dinner.

“You give love to people who give you love,” Patti told FOX 29 Philadelphia’s Quincy Harris Tuesday morning. “And you know, I didn’t expect a viral video.”

Raven Symoné Takes On Nicki Minaj & Donald Trump Keeps Going

There is much to talk about in the world of the rich and famous; I just don’t know where to start. Nonetheless, here are some highlights of the most interesting news and gossip stories. Raven Symoné Comes For Nicki Minaj during AMA’s? Sometimes it seems like she’s learned her lesson and others times, I just don’t know. Raven Symone is more famous nowadays for her controversial views and comments than her talent, so it’s no wonder people are giving her a hard time about tweets she posted about Nicki Minaj during last night’s telecast of the American Music Awards. “Congrats #NickiMinaj your so calm tonight.” Now I see how people can say that she came for her. There is no doubt she is referring to the summer beef the rapper had with Miley Cyrus that spilled over onto the MTV Video Music Awards in which Nicki outed the former Disney star with the now infamous phrase, “Miley what’s good.” You can look at the situation two ways, and this is me (for whatever reason) giving Raven the benefit of the doubt. It's either, A) she meant is in jest, you know like the kind of thing you say to your friend who’s known for “going there” when she keeps it cool or B) she was being petty and it was, in fact, shade. Of course, people are saying it’s the latter, but Raven cleared it up with a tweet to let everyone know the deal. “Let me clear this up... Congrats on your award #Nikki sag sis. And she is calm tonight. Smh, I ain't startin nothin. I'm enjoying da show.” If you say so Raven! Donald Trump Continues to Show his Ass I remain baffled at the fact that Donald Trump remains in the GOP race. Even when he shows his ass giving the whole world, a peek into his thinking, he still rallies support from crazy people. In Birmingham, Trump had the nerve to say that the black protester who interrupted his rally, according to The Washington Post, was “so obnoxious and so loud…maybe he should have been roughed up.” There's no maybe to it because he was. The man’s name is Mercutio Southall Jr. Known as a local activist, he shouted “black lives matter” which was reportedly followed by a fight. And because he knows how to stay cool calm and collected under pressure, Trump advised his security to, “Get him the hell out of here, will you, please…. Get him out of here. Throw him out!” This is a disgusting display of how Trump deals with situations and it is clear that he condones the white men surrounding, kicking and punching Southall as he made no attempt to get them to stop. In fact, he felt like the man deserved what he got for coming for him during his rally. I mean damn Trump, a woman repeatedly shouted, “Don’t choke him.” How can you be okay with that? But I guess when you “have fans” ready to stick up for you, it’s okay. “I have a lot of fans, and they were not happy about it. And this was a very obnoxious guy who was a trouble-maker who was looking to make trouble,” Trump told Fox News. Trump's racism stares us in the face daily but we choose to look past it. Now that’s disgusting. Shooter in Lil Wayne Bus Incident Gets 20 Years Remember when Lil Wayne’s bus was sprayed with bullets earlier this year? Well the shooter, Jimmy Carlton Winfrey, accepted a plea deal in which he will serve 10 years in prison and 10 years probation. It’s a really messed up situation for Winfrey who many suspect was acting on orders from people Lil Wayne once called family. This notion is interesting in particular, especially since it was discovered that Winfrey is an associate of Birdman (CEO of Cash Money) and that he was in contact with him on the day of the shooting. According to Rolling Stone, he pleaded guilty to six of the 27 counts in connection with the shooting that were brought against him. He was also indicted on 30 counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm before he accepted the plea deal. No one was injured in the shooting that happened in Atlanta on April 26th, but when you have that many criminal counts against you, it's a miracle he didn;t receive more time I suppose. Raven Symone decides to take on Nicki Minaj; Donald Trump keeps showing his true colors and Lil Wayne’s shooter gets a couple decades in timeout.
