What better way to say “I love you ” than to sit down and have a good old fashion scare fest with dear ol’ mom on her special day Mother’s Day. Here are the top 5 horror films to send a chill through your mother’s spine on this special holiday:

Check Out Our Mother’s Day Gift Idea Guides.

mama best horror movie for mothers day 2015

Mama: One of my personal favorites presented by the always amazing horror director Guillermo Del Toro, Mama is the perfect horror film to pull out on mother’s day. In fact, I gave this as a gift to my mother last mother’s day! It’s a very emotional and gothic tale about two children who are taken care of by an evil entity in the woods for years. When the girl’s uncle rescues them from their disturbing way of life, the entity that the children call “mama” is just not ready to let go. With great cinematography and the unusual handling of the theme about the unconditional love of a mother for her children, this movie is considered by many to be a horror classic.

carrie movie best horror for mothers day images 2015

Carrie: If you can sit down and watch this horror classic with your mother than apparently your relationship isn’t nearly as bad as Carrie’s was with her mom. Margaret White is the ultimate evil mom. She shames her child for getting her period, shames her about her body and encourages her NOT to go to the prom (although mother might have been right about that one). When you discover you have telekinesis, you expect your mother to be there for you no matter what, not Carrie White’s mother. The 2013 remake is equally impressive so, if you’re looking to see a newer version and still enjoy this classic tale give it a try. There’s no better way to say thank you mother, for not being bat-shit crazy!

the babadook best horror movie for mothers day 2015

The Babadook: is a new personal favorite of mine that has strong themes about the life of motherhood flowing through it from beginning to end. The Babadook follows a single mother who’s raising a very bratty child all on her own. When mother and son read a book together called Mr. Babadook, an evil presence enters their house that might drive mommy insane. This is a great move to watch with mom (except maybe fast forward through the vibrator scene) because it’s a great conversation starter about the pressures of motherhood. Because it’s not full of jump scares or gore, this a horror movie you watch with mom even if she is a horror feather weight.

rosemarys baby best mothers day movies 2015

Rosemary’s Baby: Still considered a horror classic, this movie about a mother pregnant with satan’s baby touches on all the fears of impending motherhood. Written and directed by famous director Roman Polanski, this movie really makes you think of the seriousness of being pregnant. It even goes as deep as to suggest that a pregnancy is often a form of possession as a woman’s body changes for better or for worse. It flirts with idea that you never know what you’re going to give birth to. Maybe a beautiful healthy baby, an alien or…satan’s baby. Ya never know! Even though it’s a horror film from 1968, it’s still got a fun and freaky horror feel that has excellent symbolism about being an impending mother.

psycho best mothers day movies 2015

Psycho: The “mother” of all psychological horror films (and my all time favorite), psycho is the ultimate Mother’s Day movie. It’s the classic tale of a boy so obsessed with his mother that he ends up taking over her identity while killing woman that sexually stimulate him. Don’t we already blame our mother’s for all of our problems anyways? This might have been the movie that started it all. It’s particularly special because some elements of it come from the true murderer, Ed Gein. Gein couldn’t get over his mother’s death so he started killing people and using their skin to build a shrine to his mother. It’s a classic that even non-horror fans love and the perfect way to say, “I love you Mom. At least I didn’t end up like Norman Bates!”

Android Wear is Something Apple Should Watch Out For

apple watch vs android wear 2015

Many iPhone users, mainly Apple fans and early adopters should have their Apple Watches by now. Despite encouraging buyers to go online for their Apple Watch, many Apple faithful still flocked to Apple stores and distributors to get theirs. But many came home empty-handed or should we say empty-wristed and will have to buy online or wait for stocks to replenish. For now, there’s a void on their wrists waiting to be filled, and in their minds, a small idea continues to build. I need something on my wrist. Can other wearables interface with my iPhone? Can smart watches running Android Wear do it? Can Google make Android Wear compatible with the iPhone? If it does, will Google be able to take a bite out of Apple Watch Sales?

Good news for Android Wear fans and the Apple Watch-less as well as those who won’t accept Apple’s 18-hour ‘all-day’ battery life. Google is apparently working on an iOS app that will make Android Wear smart watches compatible with the iPhone. Not everyone is a total Apple or Android fanboy. There are plenty of people who have tried and use both platforms. IPhone for work and Android for personal use or vice versa; or they just want the best of both worlds. If Android Wear works with the iPhone, then the best of both worlds it is. Cheaper too.

The aforementioned folks are those that Google’s counting on. It’s only a matter of time before the Apple Watch saturates the wearables market and Google needs to compete as soon as possible and take a chunk out of Apple’s sales even if it has to use the iPhone itself to do it. Apple is still making a killing with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus, so by actually making Android Wear compatible with the iPhone, Google would actually take advantage of iPhone sales. Brilliant actually. It’s not just for the iPhone 6 plus. Right now, the minimum requirement for the Apple Watch is an iPhone 5. If Android Wear can be made compatible say, with an iPhone 4 and 4s which there’s still plenty of, then Google will definitely take a good chunk out of Apple Watch sales.

Aside from possible backwards compatibility, Android Wear is a lot cheaper too. Shelling out a minimum of $349 for the Apple Watch Sport and $549 for the Apple Watch is just too painful for many folks. IPhone owners who still can’t afford to get an Apple Watch after just getting their new phones will have to sit at the sidelines and watch their peers have the Dick Tracy experience –or get something else like a cheaper Android Wear. The same goes with folks who still can’t afford to replace their old iPhones. They can share in the Dick Tracy experience by getting an Android Wear.

android wear not worried about apple 2015

Android Wear smart watches have been out for a while but hasn’t received as much buzz as the Apple Watch. There have only been over 700,000 Android wear watches shipped from various manufacturers in 2014. An announcement of compatibility with the iPhone might just be the buzz they need. The ability to triage calls and notifications as well as the ability to take calls and receive messages without pulling out the phone is quite important for busy iPhone-owning professionals. Not everyone can have the Apple Watch nor would want one in its current iteration. The Sony SmartWatch 3 for example can last for days on one charge and is waterproof. The Apple Watch may have opened up a new necessity, one that the cheaper Android Wear would gladly fill in if given the chance.

Android Wear smart watches aren’t exactly lame ducks. Like the Apple Watch, they can receive calls and text messages as well as display notifications. They have basic fitness functions and yes, they can tell time too. But not all Android Wear devices are as cool as the Apple Watch. They are a mixed bag, each with their own pros and cons which Apple took into consideration hence their late entry. The only drawbacks to the Apple Watch are the battery life and price. The best Android Wear devices out there include the Sony SmartWatch 3 which sells below $200, Motorola’s Moto 360 which goes as low as $175, and Samsung Gear Live which sells below $150. A good smart watch partner for the iPhone below $300 and lasts the whole day? Now that’s competition.

Apple Beats Down on Jay Z’s Tidal Wave

jay z tidal music with beyonce kanye west 2015

Is Jay Z’s Tidal music service in Apple’s crosshairs? Will it make waves later on or will Apple turn it into just another wave in the ocean? According to music industry insiders Apple wants Tidal’s waves to weaken before it comes ashore and take a bite out of iTunes like Spotify. Apple does have something to gain from the failure of Jay Z’s music service. The tech giant has iTunes and Beats. But considering how small Tidal’s operation currently is compared to Apple, does iTunes really care to nip his bud or are the music insiders just being paranoid?

Their paranoia is apparently based on several factors. First is the Tidal App’s removal from Apple Store’s top 700 apps. It’s not easy to find in app listings under music unless you specifically search for it. But that could also easily mean that in Apple world, it’s not really that popular. But then again, any updates are immediately reflected in Google Play but not at the Apple Store.

steve jobs apple music vs jay z tidal

The second sign is that Apple is putting some pressure on artists that signed up on Tidal; that iTunes will not be promoting these artists on iTunes’ featured listings which could really affect sales on the artist’s end. Apple doesn’t seem to mind in the short term. But it will only happen to Tidal artists if they submit exclusive tracks to the music service. Further proof of such a beatdown was when Rihanna released ‘American Oxygen’ on Tidal. ITunes allegedly scrambled the artist’s songs and were unavailable at times. Apple of course denies the allegations but with regards to removal from feature listings, it’s apparently within Apple’s operating procedure not to actively promote artists who are active in other music services. Tidal could do the same thing if the artist becomes more into iTunes.

apple watch with jay z tidal music 2015

Music distribution is a pretty cutthroat industry especially when it tries to compete for every spare dime due to rampant piracy. With iTunes and Apple’s acquisition of Beats, Apple could easily soften up its competition through partial denial of its services such as Apple Store downloads of competing music services and music downloads of artists who don’t play nice. When the competition is soft enough, then it’s time to dice. Such is a very hard allegation considering that doing so could land Apple in antitrust hearings.

jay z tidal music with beyonce kanye west 2015

Perhaps Tidal isn’t really as hot as it’s supposed to be and that it could be laying blame on Cupertino’s doorstep. Apple seems to be giving them enough reason to do so. But its founder Jay Z says that Tidal is doing as well as it should for a still fledgling music service. Spotify didn’t exactly get to where it’s at in one day. Tidal currently has over 770,000 subscribers since it started. The figure is very modest compared to Spotify’s 15 million but given the company’s age, it’s a fair number. Whether or not that number will increase would be up to the company, its artist stable and its offerings. Music has been a cutthroat industry even before online streaming. Success is still more about the talent and marketing and not about whether or not the competition is up to something.

Edmonton Oilers Among 2016 Stanley Cup Favorites

edmonton oilers 2015 stanley cup playoffs favorites images

The Edmonton Oilers, back in 2006, was a franchise that boasted a talented lineup. Edmonton, for starters, had Michael Peca, Chris Pronger, Ryan Smyth, and a host of other talented players. Behind what was a star-studded lineup, Edmonton made it all the way to the Stanley Cup final before losing in a seventh game to the Carolina Hurricanes.

The next offseason saw many of the players that helped Edmonton make their deep run leave town, most noteably Pronger. Since that time there hasn’t been much to cheer about in Edmonton, especially in the post-season, as the Oilers have not qualified for the playoffs post-2006.

connor mcdavid hold with edmonton oilers stanley cup playoffs 2015

However during the 2015 Stanley Cup playoffs, Edmontonians did have something to cheer about – although not on the ice. Off the ice, Edmonton won the 2015 NHL Draft Lottery and, consequently, they hold the option of taking Connor McDavid first overall later this year. That’s very important because McDavid is widely considered to be a once-in-a-generation type of player – on par with talents like Sidney Crosby, Mario Lemieux, and Wayne Gretzky.

The fact that Edmonton hold the option of selecting McDavid, an option that they are incredibly likely to take, is the main reason why Edmonton should be considered Western Conference favorites. However there’s other reasons why Edmonton should be on the short list of favorites to win the 2016 Stanley Cup outright.

craig mactavish demoted at edmonton oilers 2015 stanley cup playoffs

1. Craig MacTavish has been demoted

Craig MacTavish had no proven track record in hockey operations management when he became senior vice-president of hockey operations a few years back in Edmonton. A few years later, he still has no proven track record in hockey operations management. You could argue that MacTavish was a decent coach since he was behind the bench for the 2006 Oilers, however even that is debateable. With him demoted, the Oilers finally have a chance to get the fresh perspectives that are needed for future success.

2. Peter Chiarelli is President of Hockey Operations and GM of the Edmonton Oilers

In Peter Chiarelli, the Edmonton Oilers now have off ice leadership that does have a proven track record. Chiarelli was part of the Boston Bruins hockey club that won the 2011 Stanley Cup. Him calling the shots upgrades Edmonton’s hockey brains significantly.

todd nelson coach edmonton oilers 2015 stanley cup playoffs

3. The Oilers appear to be serious about getting a good coach

Dallas Eakins was a terrible NHL coach the day the Oilers hired him. As coach of the Oilers, he did nothing to improve my opinion of him.

With Todd Nelson, the jury is still out as far as coaching skills go however he did not seem to be that bad in the time he spent behind the bench last season. Nelson aside, currently there is plenty of buzz in Edmonton surrounding who the coach of the Oilers will be next year. The buzz includes Mike Babcock’s name, the longtime and highly successful coach of the Detroit Red Wings. Whether Babcock, the winner of multiple Stanley Cups as a coach, will head the Oilers is not clear but that the Oilers are willing to go out and get someone capable of winning the championship is clear.

4. Taylor Hall and other young players are still improving

The 2015/16 Edmonton Oilers are not going to be a one-trick show. Connor McDavid should have plenty of support as the Oilers have a deep roster of young talent. That young talent is still improving and a more-than-just-solid core promises to keep the pressure off of McDavid.

If it’s true that below average coaching and poor hockey operations were inhibiting player development in the past then the changes taking place in Edmonton may lead to numerous players having breakout years.

I think the Oilers would be a playoff team without McDavid, based solely on the other changes they’ve made in recent weeks.

ben scrivens sucks goalee for edmonton oilers 2015 stanley cup playoffs

5. Better goaltending should be coming soon

The Oilers have not had a great goaltender since Curtis Joseph. However I doubt that Edmonton, having put so much effort into improving their office personel, will just leave the net to a below-average keeper in 2015/16. Ben Scrivens is not below average in my opinion but, in order to stay in Edmonton, he’ll need to improve on his 2014/15 stats. I think with the players in front of him, with better coaching and strategizing coming from behind the bench, and with better overall hockey operations Scrivens will post numbers more like the ones he had in Los Angeles. If he fails to do that then I think he will likely be traded.

In conclusion, the problem with the Edmonton Oilers post-2006 has not really been with players for the most part. Mainly, the problem has been with management and I think those problems are all going to be resolved before the opening of the 2015/16 season.

Edmonton fans should not worry about whether McDavid goes through growing pains or not. Instead look for the slightly older recent draft picks to all have breakout years. Come this time next season, I fully expect Edmonton to be in the second round of the 2016 playoffs will as good of a chance as any to win the Cup.

Juventus vs Real Madrid: Champions League semi-final first leg

champions league juventus vs real madrid 2015 images

This is it. We’ve now reached the final stages of this season’s Champions League. Four teams will go head to head in the semi-finals and the finalists will be decided over the two legs. It can very well be an El Clasico final, but prior to that Real Madrid and Barcelona will have to overcome the Italian and German champions respectively.

Juventus will play host to Carlo Ancelotti’s men on Tuesday in the first leg of this semi-final clash. The Old Lady hasn’t lost a home game in the European competition this season. They can definitely use an advantage while heading to the Santiago Bernabeu for the reverse fixture. Both these European powerhouses have faced each other 16 times, out of which Los Blancos lead by 8 – 7.

The Spanish giants have a better form than Allegri’s men. In the last six matches in all competitions, the European champions have won five and drawn one in contrast to Juve’s four wins, one draw and one loss. But Bianconeri head into the tie after retaining their domestic crown while Real are still trying to keep pace with the La Liga leaders Barca.

adrea pirlo behind real madrid 2015

The Italian legend Andrea Pirlo has labeled Real Madrid as the most important club in the world.

“We have the same chances as they do to progress,” Pirlo said on his club’s official website.

“We weren’t ready for the Champions League in previous years. But this team has gained experience and we know we can do well and play without fear. Now that we are here, we want to go all the way.

He added: “To win it would be a dream come true, for me and for my team-mates. Real are the most important club in the world. They have a lot of experience in this type of game and have a team of champions.

“The first leg is crucial and we’ll need to play with intelligence as we have done in recent years. We’ll be mindful but also show some swagger, because we have a dream to fulfil and nothing to lose, but also aware that there’s a second leg to follow.”

Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos also had a few words before the clash in Turin. It will be Ancelotti’s return to the Juventus Stadium and the German midfielder remarked that it could benefit his new side.

cristiano ronaldo real madrid vs juventus champions league 2015

“We have an Italian coach that knows Juventus very well,” Real midfielder said. “I think that will help us.

“We are going to do all that we can to reach the final knowing that no club has managed to defend the Champion League crown. This is our biggest challenge of the year.”

Real Madrid’s French striker Karim Benzema was sidelined due to a knee injury a few weeks ago and he’ll miss this crucial game in Italy. Another Frenchman, Paul Pogba won’t feature for Juventus due to his hamstring problem.

Juventus possible starting lineup:
Buffon; Lichtsteiner, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, Evra; Pirlo, Vidal, Marchisio; Tevez, Llorente

Real Madrid possible starting lineup:
Casillas; Carvajal, Varane, Pepe, Marcelo; Ramos, Kroos, James; Bale, Ronaldo, Hernandez

Are Cleveland Browns Trusting Johnny Manziel?

cleveland browns trusting johnny manziel this nfl season 2015

If the Cleveland Browns have basically given up on Johnny Manziel, then they sure had a funny way of showing it when it came draft time. It was only a few weeks ago when NFL insider Chris Mortensen stated that the Browns were “90 percent done” with the troubled Manziel. If that were the case perhaps the team should have looked closer for a replacement quarterback during last week’s draft. The Browns didn’t take a QB at all, but did receive good grades on the picks they did make. The bad news is that most of the rest of their division graded out ahead of them. Those are initial grades however and it takes years to get a true grade for a draft.

Browns head coach Mike Pettine doesn’t seem worried about the quarterback issue in Cleveland though and had a great smart ass blast to make his point. “We go 11 against 11,” Pettine said. “We’re not just trotting quarterbacks out there at the 50-yard line and they’re thumb wrestling. To me, there are a lot of different ways to win football games and you just don’t force a situation. Do we look at it and say, ‘OK, if we perceive our quarterback room is not the best in the division, what does that mean? Do we call the league and cancel games?'”

mike pettine browns coach with johnny manziel 2015

First off, nice thumb wrestling reference. That may be the first time that phrase has been uttered by an NFL head coach in regards to a draft. And the fact that Pettine has a lot of faith in his overall team is a positive note. His comment about calling the league and canceling games because of his weak “QB room” doesn’t show a lot of confidence in what he has in house. That comment could be simply to motivate the quarterbacks he does have under contract to up their game, mainly Manziel, from whom the most is expected. Or maybe the coach is already irritated by a question that he will receive all of 2015 about his lack of a stud passer. If the media is under his skin in May, then he best get a Xanax prescription asap, it will be a long season for the guy.

2015 may be a big turnaround for Johnny Manziel. He stayed in rehab plenty long enough to receive proper help. He didn’t do the one day stay like the UFC’s Jon Jones, so Manziel’s treatment might actually have worked. It will be interesting to see what the guy can do if he is really focused on being an NFL quarterback. Clearly last year he had his mind on everything but that. Even if he isn’t a playbook worm, the fact that he is sober (hopefully that sticks) will improve upon his dismal 2014 efforts when he was lucky just to make it on the field.

johnny manziel and josh mccown cleveland browns starters 2015
The Browns aren’t putting the entire future on the shoulders of Johnny Manziel or Josh McCown. Their draft choices indicate an emphasis on the run game. Their first and second picks were offensive linemen and they also got the Miami Hurricane’s all-time leading rusher, Duke Johnson. A good run game and a stout defense can certainly help mask a weak passing game, but it isn’t the 2015 NFL standard. The Patriots have had a centerpiece at QB for over a decade and just used interchangeable parts to fill in around Tom Brady. Mike Pettine seems to think the Browns can do the exact opposite, namely have ten solid players around a suspect quarterback.

Cleveland would be wise to do everything possible to make Johnny Manziel successful. I don’t see McCown being the answer, Thad Lewis sounds more like a surfer than a passer, and Connor Shaw, while good in college, is likely just another product of Steve Spurrier’s system. Not to mention this year’s draft was not exactly filled with quality quarterbacks. After Winston and Mariota were snatched up at one and two, the remaining guys were just leftovers. A mere seven quarterbacks were drafted this year, accounting for under three percent of the total positions chosen. Hanging your hopes on a guy like Manziel isn’t such a stretch when there was so little to choose from coming out of college this year.

Johnny Manziel can still be the guy many hoped he would be after his amazing career at Texas A&M. He was a trainwreck, dumpster fire, and simply lost in 2014. Now that he has received help for his non-football issues, maybe that propels him to get back to doing what he does best, namely being Johnny Football. The NFL isn’t easy so if he fails he will not be the first nor the last. Guys with more talent and better work ethic have failed before him. But Johnny Manziel still has a chance be a solid if not great NFL QB. Cleveland must have some faith left in him, or maybe they are just stuck with him for now. Either way, the 2015 season will let us know if there is anything left of Johnny Football or if the Browns will be looking for his replacement in next year’s draft which would have to have better options at his position than this year’s event.

Celebrity Gossip Roundup: Kim Kardashian Fro Talk & Daniele Watts Goes Django

It’s almost the middle of the week and so many interesting things happened over the weekend and yesterday starting with the Mayweather Pacquiao fight and then Kim Kardashian gets black women a little irritated with her crazy fro talk.

floyd mayweather wins manny pacquiao fight 2015 gossip

Floyd Mayweather/Manny Pacquiao Fight

The event billed as the “Fight of the Century” went down on Saturday and for the most part it was uneventful. Of course they had the warm up fights and that lasted for forever. Then the main event happened, the arrogant, obnoxious, “undefeated” Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao.

It was a star-studded shindig if there ever was one. I mean I saw a picture of all the G5’s (the runway was reportedly jammed up because there were so many) that were there and all the people and it is truly amazing the world in which we live. People can obtain all this wealth, spend it on petty, material things and just keep on doing it over and over again. Once more, us common folks are the ones making them rich. Anyway, off my soapbox.

Mayweather and Pacquiao went toe to toe and… big surprise here, Mayweather won! I hate that this domestic abuser, jack ass won. People want to say that he’s the shit so he doesn’t have to be nice to people, but that’s bull shit to me. I am Team Pacman. And even though Mayweather and I share the same birthday and I usually root for people who share my birthday, I can never ever root for him. I can’t even bring myself to say congratulations. I know I sound like a hater (I am not) but forgive me for wanting to supporting a person beyond their abilities and actually caring about what they stand for.
jamie foxx national anthem panned by everyone 2015 gossipJamie Foxx National Anthem Rendition Panned… By Everyone

So here is the thing with Jamie Foxx -He can blow his ass off and he’s a pretty okay actor. To me, however, his element is definitely behind the mic. So when he got to sing the national anthem at the Mayweather/ Pacquiao fight, although he was in his element, his rendition was not the business. Here is why.

It sounded like he was winging it. It didn’t sound rehearsed and it came off as if the organ player was trying to follow him. Like seriously, Foxx must have said to him, “Yo… just follow, Imma do me.” It is really a shame too because the guy has got it but where he messed up is he changed the medley. When things as “sacred” as the national anthem, unless you are Marvin Gaye (and no one is) don’t reinvent the wheel. And that’s by advice to Jamie.

kim kardashian talks norths crazy fro hair 2015 gossip

Kim Kardashian Calls North’s Hair as “Crazy Fro” and Black Women are Mad

Ugh…black people come on. We don’t have to protest and march for every damn thing. A black man killed for no reason, hell yes, we are gonna be right there. Being called a black bitch or demeaned because of your color, you best believe we are going off. But an Armenia woman married to a black man and who has a black baby calling her daughter’s hair a “crazy fro?” Back the hell down black people.

We don’t always have to “go there” when someone who is not black makes a comment about one of our black features or our “traditionally black” things. I don’t ever think that Kim says or does anything that comes off racist on purpose and this is not because I am a fan.

North’s hair probably did look like a damn crazy mess when she woke up. Hell, haven’t yours? Why does she have to get flack for commenting on the hair of the child that she gave birth to? Black women (especially the naturals) need to chill the hell out. We get it, you’re proud of your natural hair state and you never miss an opportunity to let everyone know that. But everything people say about your hair should not be offensive because sometimes, that shit does look bad. I’m just saying. Moving on.

django unchained star daniele watts owes lapd apology 2015 gossip

Daniele Watts Owes LAPD Cops Apology

This story is interesting to me for so many reasons but mainly because my boyfriend made such a big deal about it. Daniele Watts, who had a part in the hit move Django Unchained, was caught with her boyfriend in his car doing some kind of lewd act I guess last September. She got all up in arms, called her dad on the phone while it was happening and accused the cops who responded to a complaint that she and her boyfriend, who happens to be white (she’s black) were having sex in said car.

When asked for her ID she pulled the race card (as well as the “I’m an actress” card… honestly I don’t remember her in the movie and even after Googling her I still don’t know who she is) to no avail. She went on to accuse him of a profiling of sorts because of the difference in their races.

danile watts cries for lapd django unchained 2015

Apparently, the court disagreed with her and she has now been ordered to write a letter of apology to the cop she claimed was being racist and to do 40 hours of community service.

I think the thing that really screwed it up for her was that she went public with what happened and made it seem like they were targeted BECAUSE of their race. I don’t know. Just don’t have sex in public, or at least not in eye sigh of the CBS studios.

Anaheim Ducks Close To Putting Out Calgary’s Flame: 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs

anaheim ducks vs calgary flames 2015 stanley cup playoffs images

The Calgary Flames, following two subpar performances in games one and two of their second round series against the Anaheim Ducks, are in a world of trouble. The Flames, down 0-2 in the series, will host the Ducks from downtown Calgary on Tuesday night. Calgary are in desperate need of a win if they are going to give themselves a serious chance of advancing in the 2015 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs.

calgary flames vs anaheim ducks 2015 stanley cup playoffs

Calgary enter game three knowing that they were drastically outscored in games one and two combined. In game one, Anaheim blew out the Flames 6-1, scoring a pair of goals in every period. Game two was not as lopsided as Anaheim only defeated Calgary 3-0 however the two-game total sees Anaheim ahead 9-1 as the series shifts to Alberta, Canada.

corey perry scores for anaheim ducks against calgary flames stanley cup playoffs 2015corey perry scores for anaheim ducks against calgary flames stanley cup playoffs 2015

Corey Perry of Anaheim, even as the series moves away from California, promises to remain a major thorn in Calgary’s side. Through six games this post-season his Ducks remain undefeated and that is in no small part due to Perry scoring better than two points per game. Heading into game three against Calgary, Perry has five goals in the post-season and eight assists. That includes two assists in the game two win against Calgary and two goals and two assists in game one.

But Perry, as an offensive juggernaut, is just one problem that Calgary has to solve. There’s the matter of the brick wall between the pipes for Anaheim too.

ducks frederik andersen great goalie in stanley cup playoffs 2015 flames

Frederik Andersen, a 25-year old from Denmark, is enjoying a stellar post-season behind his teammates. Andersen’s save percentage of .942 is well above his career regular season average. The Ducks, building off of both a shutout from their netminder and stellar offensive play from Perry, should not have much trouble competing well in games three and four in Calgary.

While Flames will no doubt have a legion of fans going crazy for them, under similar circumstances Anaheim remained unphased earlier in the playoffs. Calgary’s Saddledome, for game three, won’t be any more or less crazy than the scene in Winnipeg in April, when the Ducks travelled there for game three of their first round series. While it’s true that Winnipeg played Anaheim tight in game three, in the end the game ended in the Ducks’ favor.

calgary flames vs anaheim ducks 2015 stanley cup playoffs game 3

Calgary are a bit better than Winnipeg so the parallel is a bit faulty. However with Perry playing fantastic, with Andersen repelling nearly everything, and with previous recent experience winning in a hostile hockey madhouse I think the Ducks will take at least a split away from Alberta. If so, then that would set up a game five situation where Calgary would have to buck a trend of losing in Anaheim that’s been active since before Sam Bennett’s voice changed.

As always, analysis will defer to actual gameplay. Game three from cow-town will start at 9:30pm ET on Tuesday night (7:30pm local).

New Orleans Saints Fans, Meet your QB of the Future: Garrett Grayson

new orleans saints draft garrett grayson

The New Orleans Saints came into the 2015 NFL Draft looking to find a quarterback to succeed Drew Brees, and they seem to have found their man in Colorado State quarterback Garrett Grayson.

This shouldn’t be too big of a shock to anyone; after all, it’s been an offseason of changes for the Saints. With their Super Bowl window closing (or possibly even closed), head coach Sean Payton and general manager Mickey Loomis used the time after their 7-9 finish in 2014 to pry it back open.

Drew Brees has been the man for the Saints since 2006, and the franchise is not making a change at quarterback until he retires. When you lead a team and a city out of one of the worst natural disasters in history to a Super Bowl championship only four years later, you earn that right.

Brees is 36 right now, and he’s not getting any younger. The Super Bowl XLIV MVP needs someone to pass his know-how on to, and the Saints took Grayson as a work in progress—for the next few seasons, he’ll be sitting under and learn from one of the best quarterbacks of the generation, and hopefully be ready to go by the time Brees calls it quits.

Grayson certainly has the talent to do so: the Mountain West Player of the Year led Colorado State to its first 10-win since in 13 years, racking up 4,006 yards, 32 touchdowns, and completing nearly 65 percent of his passes along the way.

In fact, before the draft an anonymous NFL executive was quoted, saying that he “wouldn’t be surprised if Grayson was better than all of” the other quarterbacks in this draft class—including Heisman Trophy winners Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota.

“I just think he’s got the intangibles,” continued the exec. “He’s got a good presence about himself in the pocket. He’s got the physical traits. His arm’s strong enough, and I think he’s got the right temperament.”

Sean Payton seemed to agree. In the days leading up to the draft, Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty became the hot topic, and there were even rumors swirling around that he may go in the late first round. Obviously the Saints saw things differently, electing to pass up Petty and take Grayson—the highest the franchise has taken a quarterback since drafting Archie Manning second overall in 1971.

Payton probably saw a lot of Brees in the young kid. Grayson isn’t much taller than Brees at only 6’2, but much like the future Hall of Famer he has an uncanny ability to get the ball out on target even under duress. In his 2014 season with the Rams, he also showed a huge improvement on his deep balls.

Grayson wasn’t free from injury in his time at Colorado State, but overall he seems like the right man for the job. He will need to compete with veteran Luke McCown and Ryan Griffin in camp for the backup role; but if the Saints were willing to spend a third round pick on him, it would be a long stretch to say he won’t get the nod come September.

I wouldn’t by a Garrett Grayson jersey just yet; but if everything goes smoothly, Saints fans may want to have theirs ready. Drew Brees isn’t done yet, but in the meantime he will be passing on his immense knowledge of the game to Grayson in hopes of a seamless transition.

Kylie Jenner Name Hoarder

Sometimes the actions of the Kardashian family are so ridiculous, it makes you wonder if they don’t do ridiculously stupid things just to stay relevant. If they didn’t act unimaginably idiotic, would we even remember their names? Kim Kardashian used to be the strongest laughing stock of her family, but Kylie Jenner is trying really hard to fill her over sized heels.

This week she found a way to show off her dunce way of thinking in two unbelievable ways. In an effort to make herself more stand out, she wants to trademark her name so that no one else can use it. So yes, anyone else name Kylie, get rid of your name because you are no longer allowed to use it because 17 year-old thinks she can trademark a highly popular name. Jenner has filed an application last month in order to trademark her first name in order to “ entertainment in the nature of providing information by means of a global computer network in the fields of entertainment, fashion and pop culture.” She’s chosen to forget that some of the more talented people in the entertainment biz came long before her like Kylie Minogue.

Um, ok? So she actually thinks she’s a brand name now. Also, Kylie wants all of her personal appearances to say “by a celebrity, actress and model.” Oh, and her sister Kendall has done the same.

If that wasn’t bad enough, Kylie posted a picture on instagram of her driving down the L.A. Freeway with the caption “Born & Raised…& I’ll probably die here.” Wow. Considering her father is under investigation for KILLING someone in a car accident where he was being inattentive, I’d like to think she wouldn’t do anything so stupid.

While Kylie bragged about her Calabasa roots, I’m sure she was only talking about how she would be born, grow up and die in L.A. However due to her father’s situation, the picture totally takes on a different meaning.

Although his dumb daughter’s decision should not affect him, if prosecutors feel him and his family have no respect for the law they might end up throwing the book at him. I already feel he’s a celebrity close to getting away with murder, but that’s another story all together.

Did I mention she’s already being sued for an accident she might have caused just a few weeks after she received her license?

Point blank, this girl needs to wise up before she gets in to some serious trouble.

The drag queens were required to divide into pairs to perform a musical adaption of a scene from any John Waters movie. RuPaul told Kennedy Davenport she was going to be outside of her comfort zone for this challenge. The teams rehearsed their adaptations in front of Michelle Visage and she gave them feedback on their performances. Trixie said she needed to show the judges that voting her off the show previously was something she didn’t deserve. Once again, Pearl was told she wasn’t putting enough energy into her performance.

John Waters himself joined the panel of judges for this week’s show. RuPaul announced that the queens would be walking the runway in the ugliest dresses they had ever worn. Pearl came out dressed as a Japanese girl while Kennedy Davenport came out dressed as an elderly woman. Miss Fame wore a dress that RuPaul compared to a tent. Trixie wore what looked like an embarrassingly ugly prom dress. Each team of drag queen’s screen test was shown to the judges, including John Waters. RuPaul said that the screen tests were deeply disturbing.

Carson Cressley, one of the judges told Kennedy Davenport her dress wasn’t ugly enough. Katya was praised for her dress as well as her screen test performance. Pearl was told her dress was the least ugly of all of them and that her performance wasn’t as good as it should have been. Violet was told she nailed the challenge with her dress that looked like a colorful clown costume. RuPaul then asked each queen who should go home that week and why they should go home. Violet was criticized for never having won a challenge.

Ginger Minj and Trixie were both praised by the judges for their performances during their screen tests. Carson said that Trixie and others had a hard time competing with Ginger Minj. John Waters said that Pearl’s performance was unmemorable and her dress wasn’t even very ugly. He also said Pearl doesn’t follow directions. RuPaul then announced she had made her decision.
