Novak Djokovic Too Much For David Ferrer: 2015 Miami Open Masters

novak djokovic moves to finals in 2015 miami open masters

It might have been David Ferrer’s 33rd birthday today, but Novak Djokovic wasn’t about to give him an easy gift. The two went for nearly two hours in a 7-5. 7-5 match with Djokovic winning and moving on. This also keeps his hopes up for becoming the first player to complete the Indian Wells-Miami sweet on three different occasions. At the rate he’s going, it doesn’t look like it’ll be that difficult. Even his slow start didn’t do anything to hamper his energy during this match, and Ferrer really worked hard for every point.

The Serb had a slow start out the gate but picked up speed by the halfway mark of the first set. This gave Ferrer time to race out with a strong start lead of 4-1 before Djokovic hit that deadly rhythm of his. The two had a ten minute game that was very intense but put his back in the lead. In the second match, Ferrer played an amazing shot that took Djokovic by surprise but earned his tennis racket applause.

Ferrer gave it everything he could and kept up really well. By the end of the second match, he was just out of steam, and you could hear him breathing heavy from the other end of the court. He had a slight rally set, but Djokovic was like a machine that had just worn him completely down. He had been looking to end a seven match losing streak against the Number 1 ranking tennis player, but it wasn’t meant to be today.

Djokovic will move forward to take on Number 24 seed John Isner who beat Number 4 seed Kei Nishikori 6-4, 6-3 earlier in the afternoon. The serb is now one step closer to making history at the 2015 Miami Open Masters.

Novak Djokovic Answers Some Wacky Fan Questions

novak djokovic answers fans weird questions 2015 images

Novak Djokovic always treats his fans well and recently took to Twitter to let them ask him some weird, wacky and oddball questions. As you can see in the video below, he’s a good sport, and the questions were pretty much no holds barred…especially when dealing with his elasticity and staying power.

It was a good tension reliever as he is about to duke it out in the quarterfinals with David Ferrer, and if he wins, he’ll be playing against the impressive John Isner, who has won two matches against Top 10 contenders. He just took out Kei Nishikori on Thursday at the 2015 Miami Open Masters so it should be a great match whoever wins.

Here’s the questions Djokovic was asked and his funny responses, but the video is even funnier as he tries to come up with some answers in pictures. The guy isn’t afraid of looking silly that’s for sure!

He speaks on how it helps tremendously on the court and coyly mentions asking his wife about the off the court elastic movements he can do.

The last one asks him to give the funniest face he can do. He’s actually been doing that on a few of those questions. Enjoy the video below:

BRING IT! Ep 210 Recap: Neva that Butch Diva Returns

bring it ep 210 recap neva diva images 2015

This week on Bring It!, it is definitely on and popping. The fabulous Dancing Dolls are competing in Greenwood, MS and their biggest rival this week is the Divas of Olive Branch. If you remember what happened last time they walked away before the awards ceremony because of a miscommunication/misunderstanding about girls talking on stage during the stage battle, which caused her and Diana to go at it.

butch neva divas of olive branch on bring it ep 210

It is so funny too to see the coach for the Divas of Olive Branch, Neva, talk to her girls about how they need to dance and that they are bringing the “A plus.” She is determined to beat The Dancing Dolls this time around and her personal issues with Diana add fuel to the fire.

This week it is Tamia who leads the girls as captain because Kayla is leaving in two months after graduation. Crystianna is chosen to do the solo category. Being one of the youngest members of the team, her mom Rittnay is very excited for her. We see here that Diana is really trying to use other girls in order to groom them. This is a good thing because it helps the girls to get better and boost their confidence.

During practice, it looks like Tamia is kind of having some trouble and Diana tells her to take her swag meter from zero to 100.  Now if you remember the last time another girl lead beside Kayla, it was Carmyn and she did a good job. Looking at Tamia though, I feel like she is a better dancer but for whatever reason, she is taking her time and not really putting any effort into what she is doing during practice. Diana sees it, she doesn’t like it and Tamia needs to do something about it.

Diana works with Crystianna on her solo after the other girls lave and it is clear that this girl can dance. She is really good and from my view, she is better than a lot of the others on the team. Ms. D likes what she sees in practice from her but she is concerned about the day of the competition because the last time she had a solo, she froze up and just stopped.

The day of competition comes and Neva prances in with her girls loud and excited. She pumps their heads all the way up and leaves nothing left to chance. During the waiting stages, Neva decides to go and talk to Diana about what happened the last time they met. She tells her that she didn’t like what happened, in particular some of the actions that Diana did. Ms. D didn’t really want to hear what she had to say and just kind of goes off on her. And she escalates the situation to another level, which is what she always does.

Neva goes back to her girls after her interaction with Diana and she is just over the top. She didn’t come off like this the last time we saw her and I think it has everything to do with what happened at that competition.

dianne making good on bring it lifetime dont do it neva 2015

The solo competition is first. The captain for the Divas of Olive Branch takes the stage and so does the rest of the team. She dances her solo, which isn’t bad, while the other girls sit on the floor watching her. Then something happens- Neva takes off her robe and decides to join them on the stage. According to her, she wants to let people know that she can dance and that she doesn’t hire people to teach the girls. She actually does a good job.

Next, it is the Dancing Dolls turn and Crystianna shines. The other girls are used in the intro and she dances her butt off. She looks so pretty and executes it perfectly. Everyone is very proud of her especially Ms. Diana.

After that, before the stand battle, Tamia starts crying. Diana and Kayla help get her nerves under control because Ms. D trusts her with the team.

The time comes for the stand battle and Tamia does a great job leading. One of their moves involves swinging their hair and Neva looks at them not understanding what all the hair slinging is about, “that’s not dancing.”

The girls are out their doing their thing and then guess what happens? Ms. D joins them on the floor (as their secret weapon) and Neva cannot believe what she sees. Neva looks at it and say, “This is bull shit.” For the record, Diana kills the dance. I mean like, she shows all the way off and upsets the hell out of Neva. She tells her girls to turn their backs on the Dancing Dolls WHILE they are on the floor. Yes, Neva tells her team to do that and I’m cannot believe it. It is clear that the Divas of Olive Branch are thrown off by it.

In the end, Crystianna wins first place for the solo and the Dancing Dolls come in first place in stand battle. Neva cannot take it. “What just a damn minute.” She looks pissed off to the max.

The next time the two teams will meet is at the Battle Royal competition later on in the season.

Johnny Football Versus Johnny Manziel

johnny football versus johnny manziel images 2015

The kid that won over legions of fans during his time at Texas A&M is in a huge battle. Johnny Manziel is scheduled to leave rehab this week. He will then have to fight his way back to being the quarterback that those adoring fans thought he could be as a pro. Manziel will also have to fight for not only for the starting role, but for a roster spot in Cleveland. He has put himself in this position and obviously can’t blame anyone else. The challenges before him will not be easy and the biggest fight will be the one between Johnny Manziel and Johnny Football. The winner of that battle will determine the future of the guy that wowed the country during his time with the Aggies.

johnny manziel enters rehab 2015

Anyone who thinks Cleveland was caught off guard when Manziel had to enter rehab is just plain wrong. Apparently the entire league knew about his problems, even beyond his public partying photos. Nonetheless the Browns took a chance on him at #22 in the draft. After what he accomplished in college I would have said it was a good risk even with his baggage. The NFL isn’t made up of boy scouts. Talent trumps knuckleheadedness many times. It’s not like he was a serial killer. He just liked to have a good time.

After Manziel entered rehab, the stories started rolling in about his lack of professionalism. Source after source told of his penchant for being late….a lot, like all the time.  Chris Mortensen stated that he believes the Browns are basically done with him. The NFL insider noted that Cleveland tried to get Sam Bradford around the time that Philadelphia eventually traded for the Rams’ former first round pick. Giving up on a first rounder like Manziel after only one season is a rarity. It usually takes a couple of years for a team to admit they wasted a draft pick on a guy. It’s a bad look for the player as well as the management team that drafted a bust.

What does Johnny Football have to do to redeem himself as a professional football player? He needs to smother Johnny Manziel. This murder will need to happen on a daily basis. Johnny Manziel, party animal and alleged alcoholic, will not go away easily. This will be a tough fight since the night life loving Manziel will be trying to kill J-Football just as he has been trying to do for a while now. Johnny Football will have to feed the good dog inside him while starving the bad one. That is a great saying, but to do so each day is quite a challenge. Drinking, hanging with celebrities, and having your choice of bikini models is quite fun.

johnny manziel rehab future with cleveland browns uncertain 2015

I hope rehab has helped this young man, whether he ever pans out in the NFL or not. It’s a terrible thing to watch someone destroy himself. Once he leaves that rehab facility he will need to take steps to stay on the right path. I can think of a few ways to increase his chances of staying clean, not the least of which would be finding positive mentors to help him along the way. I don’t think Justin Bieber and similar celebrities will be helpful in this quest to straighten his life up. If we are to see Johnny Football return to prominence on the football field he needs to enlist the advisement of guys like Bernard Hopkins. B-Hop is not a perfect man I’m sure, but he certainly takes steps to ensure he is not derailed by any outside forces. The hall of fame boxer was locked up as a very young man, yet promised himself he would never get himself in that kind of trouble again. Hopkins does not drink, smoke, or put himself in any tempting situations. He is a pro in every sense of the word. The boxer was his own worst enemy and wound up in prison as a result. To stay out of jail he had to defend himself against himself each and every day.

Johnny Manziel has to do the same thing if he has any shot of being a star NFL QB. He still has a shot in Cleveland. It’s not like they have many options on the current roster that are better than Manziel. His time to turn things around as a pro athlete is short though. Teams will hang onto hope only so long before cutting their losses. I for one would like to see the real Johnny Football come alive. I have no interest in Johnny Boozer, Johnny Celebrity Clinger, or Johnny Drama. The kid will find out that the world has no use for those other personas either if he is no longer a football star. I’d hate to see the guy end up on some stupid reality show in a few years as the producers suck the last bit of fame from him. I’d much prefer to see him use his natural talent to become the pro athlete he was meant to be.

With Johnny Manziel In Flux, Browns May Be Starting Josh McCown

cleveland browns moving on to josh mccown over johnny manziel 2015

The saga of Johnny Manziel continues for the Cleveland Browns just as the quarterback is close to leaving rehab. There’s going to be a lot of scrutiny on the team along with the face that HBO’s “Hard Knocks” is really knocking on their door to take part in the docu-series this summer. Don’t forget the Browns are also still dealing with the “Textgate” scandal from the NFL where general manager Ray Farmer sent illegal text messages to the Browns sidelines during games last season.

Just one thing would give any NFL team pause, but the Browns have got several issues to deal with right now, plus the NFL is still pushing hard for them to take part in Hard Knocks. I think it would be smart for them to let it all out in the series plus it would be great watching.

Less than a year ago, a text message from Johnny Manziel (and perhaps some advice from a homeless man) convinced the Browns and owner Jimmy Haslam to trade up to No. 22 and take the Texas A&M quarterback.

Now the Browns are reportedly prepared for life after Manziel, who struggled in five games as a rookie and entered a rehab program earlier this year.

“I think about 90 percent [the Browns] have moved on [from Manziel] in their own minds except that they really don’t know who they’re going to get when Johnny leaves rehab, which has been an extended stay — a two-month stay,” ESPN’s Chris Mortensen said Tuesday during an appearance on Mike & Mike, via NJ.com. “He should be getting out in the first week of April if they’re satisfied that he’s ready to go out and get into society and whatever deep-rooted problems that he had has been addressed. OK, now he’s part of your depth chart. You have Josh McCown.”

josh mccown ready to start for cleveland browns 2015

Ah yes, McCown, the journeyman quarterback the Browns signed last month, presumably to mentor Manziel. Except that, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, McCown could be the bridge quarterback to whoever the team targets as its next face of the franchise — and that could be decided in the coming weeks.

“I think the Browns are fully prepared to start McCown this year, but they will continue to look for chances to upgrade the position,” Cabot wrote over the weekend. “I think they’ll try to trade up to draft Marcus Mariota, and I also think they could make another run at Sam Bradford on draft day.”

The Eagles traded for Sam Bradford in March, but the Browns were willing to give up a first-rounder for Bradford, the top pick in the 2010 draft who battled injuries for much of his time in St. Louis. And it sounds like Cleveland could still be in the Bradford business if they miss out on Mariota.

More from Cabot: “If [the Browns] don’t land one of those two, I do think McCown will be their man in 2015. They are also big on Connor Shaw, who could start games for them this season if necessary. As for Manziel, they’ll see what happens when he gets out of rehab soon. At this point, I don’t think they can get much in a trade. Maybe Jerry Jones is still interested.”

My God. We’re having a conversation about Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ perceived incompetence getting the Browns out of a jam. We say “perceived” because the Cowboys won the NFC East and a playoff game last season. And more importantly, we’re convinced that Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones, Jerry’s son, isn’t easily distracted by shiny objects.

Of course, all this could have been avoided if the Browns took the advice of the $100,000 study they commissioned that concluded Teddy Bridgewater would be a better NFL quarterback than Manziel.

At least the Browns have one thing in their favor is that everyone seems to agree that the new uniforms are great.

John Isner Knocks Out Kei Nishikori For Semi-finals

john isner beats kei nishikori for 2015 miami open semi finals

John Isner is certainly on a roll after knocking out Milos Raonic yesterday, and he’s moving on to the semi-finals after doing the same to Kei Nishikori in two sets. This makes Isner the first American male to reach the semi-finals in the 2015 Miami Open Masters along with being his second Top 10 win of the tournament. Best of all for him, they were back to back giving him that confidence to take on either Novak Djokovic or David Ferrer.

American favorite John Isner ousted Japanese star Kei Nishikori on Thursday to secure a berth in the semifinals at the $5.3 million Miami Open, an ATP Masters 1000 event.

The 22nd-seeded 6-foot-10 Isner vanquished the fourth-seeded U.S. Open runner- up Nishikori in 6-4, 6-3 fashion in 70 minutes at Crandon Park.

Isner won the final eight points of the first set, breaking Nishikori at love to close it out. He then ran out to a 3-0 lead in the second and was never threatened.

The 29-year-old Isner is now a perfect 6-0 in his career Masters quarterfinals after smacking 13 aces past Nishikori. The towering North Carolina native broke his Japanese counterpart two times, while Nishikori failed to enjoy even one break-point chance on Day 9 of the 12-day tournament.

Up next for Isner will be world No. 1 superstar Novak Djokovic or sixth-seeded David Ferrer, who will battle here Thursday evening.

Coming into Miami, the World No. 24 had lost 11 straight matches against Top 10 opponents since his run to the 2013 Cincinnati final, when he reeled off three consecutive wins over No. 10 Raonic, No. 1 Djokovic and No. 7 del Potro before falling to Nadal in the title match. Isner improved to a perfect 6-0 record in ATP World Tour Masters 1000 quarter-finals.

Commentating on ESPN, leading tennis analyst Brad Gilbert said: “It’s the best two sets of tennis from start to finish that I’ve ever seen from the big fella.”

Nishikori came into the quarter-final showdown having lost just 10 games and breaking serve in 15 of his 23 return games. Isner did not allow a single break opportunity on Thursday, clocking 13 aces in the 70-minute rout.

The Greensboro native has yet to have his serve broken in the tournament. He will look to continue that streak when he faces the winner of top seed Djokovic and David Ferrer for a spot in the championship match.

Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal in last year’s final to win his fourth Miami title. Ferrer was a runner-up in South Florida two years ago.

The other semifinal was set on Wednesday, when third-seeded two-time Miami champ Andy Murray topped Austrian Dominic Thiem in three sets and eighth- seeded 2010 finalist Tomas Berdych blitzed Argentine Juan Monaco in straights. The 2015 Australian Open runner-up Murray captured this event in 2009 and 2013 and was the Miami runner-up in 2012.

This week’s champ will earn $900,400.

He might be the number two worldwide ranking tennis player, but Roger Federer knows when to take a break from the courts and get ready for his next possible battle against the number one tennis player Novak Djokovic. They’ll meet up again at the 2015 Monte Carlo Masters, and while Djokovic went ahead to compete in the 2015 Miami Open Masters, Federer is taking a little downtime before hitting the clay courts.

Roger Federer seems to be enjoying his time off playing tournaments. Federer, who skipped the 2015 Miami Open, recently shared a snap of him in the snow while holding a racket and a snowball to his more than two million followers on Twitter

The 17-time Swiss grand slam champion was pictured chilling out in the snow and wearing the Basel Football Club scarf. He captioned the photo “Just practicing some Tennice.”

Federer last played at the 2015 BNP Paribas Open, where he made history after making his sixth finals appearance in the tournament. Federer now holds the record of the most singles finals with six (2004, 2005, 2006, 2012, 2014 and 2015). Federer, who is a four-time champion in Indian Wells, fell to Novak Djokovic in the final after a three-setter match 6-3 6-7(5) 6-2.

Following his Indian Wells defeat, Federer announced that he will not be taking part at the 2015 Miami Open so he can train and get ready for the upcoming clay season. He said that his goal is to train for the next few weeks and retreat to his native Switzerland.

“It’s key for me to get in great shape for the clay court season and the grass court season,” Federer said. “I’m actually looking forward to that and spending time in Switzerland.”

Federer’s Next Tournament – Monte Carlo Masters

Federer will play next at the 2015 Monte Carlo Masters, where he is a four-time finalist. According to astatement released on the tournament’s official website, Federer and defending champion fellow compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka will both be attendance during the draw ceremony that is set to take place at the Yacht Club de Monaco on April 11.

Novak Djokovic Takes On David Ferrer for 2015 Miami Open Quarterfinals

0

Novak Djokovic has torn through the 2015 Miami Open Masters pretty quickly and easily, but he did meet a very tough match with Alexandr Dolgopolov. That match showed he may be the number one worldwide ranked tennis player, but there’s still plenty of competition ready to take his place. On Thursday, he takes on David Ferrer, who’s been having a much better than average year, but he’s only won five of the eighteen games against Djokovic.  This will be one match to watch as it could be a long one.

Kei Nishikori will take on John Isner in the quarterfinals also. Isner knocked out Milos Raonic yesterday, and is also looking primed for a great match.

Below, you can check out today’s schedule of matches.

Djokovic won the PNB Paribas last month in Indian Wells and the World No 1 is now looking for his second consecutive ATP success, this time in Miami. He is just three wins away from winning the ongoing competition.

The Serbian has won the Miami Open on four occasions overall and three out of them have come in the last four years. He is the defending champion and is on the course to win it for the fifth time this year.

Djokovic defeated Alexandr Dolgopolov in the fourth round to seal a berth in the last eight. The 27-year-old was forced to come from behind to win the match 6-7, 7-5, 6-0. So far, he has already dropped two sets and will be looking for a straight set victory on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Ferrer defeated Gilles Simon in straight sets 7-6, 6-0 to make it to the quarter finals. So far, the Spaniard has not dropped a set and he will be keen to continue his impressive performance in the Miami Open when he takes on Djokovic.

Miami Open History

Djokovic has faced Ferrer once in the Miami Open in the 2012 and the Serbian won the clash in straight sets.

•    THURSDAY PREVIEW: The top half of the draw features on Day 9 of the Miami Open presented by Itaú as three of the world’s Top 10 players –Novak Djokovic, Kei Nishikori, David Ferrer – and American No. 1 John Isnervie for a spot in Friday’s semi-finals. Djokovic and Ferrer, who first clashed 11 years ago in Romania, meet for the 19th time with the Serb leading their FedEx H2H series 13-5. Nishikori and Isner face off for the first time.

•    #MARCHMASTERS: Djokovic is bidding to become the first player to complete the Indian Wells-Miami title sweep on three separate occasions. Since 1991, seven players have achieved back-to-back success at these events – Jim Courier (1991), Michael Chang (1992), Pete Sampras (1994),Marcelo Rios (1998), Andre Agassi (2001), Roger Federer (2005-06) and Djokovic (2011, ‘14). The World No. 1 is chasing a fifth Miami crown. He lifted the title in 2007 (d. Canas), 2011 (d. Nadal), 2012 (d. Murray) and 2014 (d. Nadal), and was a runner-up in 2009 (l. to Murray).

•    FERRER AT THE MASTERS: At the last 11 ATP Masters 1000 tournaments he has contested, Ferrer has reached the QF-or-better nine times. The Spaniard is enjoying a decorated year, opening the season with a 22-2 record and three titles in Doha (d. Berdych), Rio de Janeiro (d. Fognini) and Acapulco (d. Nishikori). His wins in Brazil and Mexico saw him become the first player since Ivan Lendl in 1985 to win back-to-back tournaments on two different surfaces. If he is to reach his fourth Miami SF today, he will need to end a seven-match losing streak vs. Djokovic.

•    CARRYING THE FLAG: Isner is bidding to become the first American to reach the Miami Open SF since Mardy Fish in 2011 (l. to Djokovic). The last home player to win the tournament was Andy Roddick in 2010. Isner’s win over Milos Raonic in the 4R was his first over a Top 10 opponent since Cincinnati 2013, when he reeled off three consecutive wins over No. 10 Raonic, No. 1 Djokovic and No. 7 Del Potro before falling to Nadal in the final. The World No. 24 has a perfect 5-0 record in ATP Masters 1000 QFs.

•    CRUISE CONTROL: Nishikori has dropped just 10 games en route to the QF, breaking serve in 15 of his 23 return games (65%). The World No. 5 is aiming to reach a fifth ATP Masters 1000 SF and a second in a row in Florida. His best performance at this tournament level was a runner-up showing in Madrid last year (ret. vs. Nadal).

A Case For Ronda Rousey Being UFC Number One Pound For Pound

0

ronda rousey case for number one 2015

As I type this, the lovely and dangerous Ronda Rousey sits at number six on the official UFC pound for pound rankings. While she is miles ahead of any other female on the pound for pound list, there is a case to be made for her being higher. I can make a case for her being at the top of the list in fact.

Rousey is such a big name in the world of MMA that there is no way she could be left off the best in any class list. Anyone who can’t see past the fact that she wears a sports bra into the octagon doesn’t need to be involved with the ranking system anyway. Does her hotness play a role in her notoriety? Stupid question. Of course it matters that she looks how she looks, but if she wasn’t a dominant force in these fights she would have faded into the background by now. Sports Illustrated swimsuit model or not she had to win over critics with her talents inside a freaking cage.

My reasoning for Rousey being deserving of the top spot on the PFP fighter list is broken down in a simple top ten list. Feel free to disagree. Just realize that we are talking minor differences from number six to number one. The top ten fighters on the PFP list are the most fearsome unarmed fighters among the seven billion people alive today. Just being on the list is quite an accomplishment for the Rowdy One.

ronda rousey ufc star 2015 for wrestlemania

  1. I love Cain Velasquez, and he is a freak of nature. Put his skill set against most of the guys on the pound for pound list and he loses two out of three fights against the same guy…or girl.
  2. Jon Jones is a crazy talent and the true evolution of a UFC fighter. He may go on to be better historically than even Anderson Silva. That is in the future, not now. He may well get knocked cold by Rumble Johnson and was pushed to the limit by Alexander Gustafsson. We don’t know Rousey’s limit because no one has been able to push her anywhere close.
  3. I’m a big Chris Weidman guy and appreciate what he has done in his time in the UFC. He has a hell of a win streak going. Rousey has been much more dominant than him however, even though he defeated a living legend in Anderson Silva twice. Machida gave Weidman a war, while Rousey has put down opponents long before a battle could turn into a war.
  4. There is a strong possibility that Jose Aldo will lose his belt to Conor McGregor. I don’t know that will happen, but I know that no one is giving even odds on any Rousey fight.
  5. Rousey’s confidence level matches her skill level. She is a professional fighter with a clear focus. She dabbles in acting and that is her future career, but pound for pound she is the most driven mixed martial artist in the UFC.
  6. Rousey’s ground game is as good as any man in the UFC. Her opponents have zero control over her when they go to the mat. Her flexibility and sheer talent make grappling with her a nightmare for anyone that goes to the ground with her. Put her on the mat with any of the guys ahead of her on the PFP list (making strength equal in a pound for pound vacuum) and she twists them like a pretzel, except maybe Demetrious Johnson because of his unearthly quickness.
  7. Some fans say Rousey wouldn’t be so dominant if her competition was better. That is a flawed theory. So she just happens to be the only woman in the world that is just decent at fighting and the hundreds of other female fighters are just bums? It’s ridiculous. She just makes other quality fighters look like bums because she is so skilled. Her opponents are not up to her. She knocks down whoever steps forward.
  8. She has been faulted for relying too much on her favorite move, the arm bar. But that move is better than any other fighter’s go to move. It’s like she has an illegal weapon in the octagon with her and can use it whenever the need arises. No guy has perfected a finishing move like Rousey’s armbar.
  9. Her last three victories have taken less time on average than her stone cold walk to the octagon. Three wins that took a total of one minute and 36 seconds. What other guy on the PFP fighter list can boast anything close to that dominance?
  10. No one has had her in trouble in any fight. Meisha Tate did well to get to the third round in their second battle. Rousey was never in danger in that fight however and Tate was quick to admit she was dead by tapping as soon as the armbar was applied.

Which NFL Players Were Winners & Losers in Free Agency?

2015 nfl free agency players winners losers images

Every year in free agency we tend to focus on each team and how well they did bringing in new star players for the next season, and sometimes we overlook how the moves will affect the players themselves. Some players leave a team only to learn that they aren’t nearly as good without their former teammates. Some players move out of horrible situations and turn into superstars. Let’s take a look at some players who won big and some others who weren’t so lucky:

Winners

frank gore winner during nfl free agency period 2015 images

Frank Gore, San Francisco 49ers to Indianapolis Colts: Gore dodged a bullet by choosing the Colts over the Philadelphia Eagles. Gore’s fantasy value will be much better in 2015 in Indianapolis; and he will still get all the playing time he wants in Pep Hamilton’s offense. Gore really hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down, and the Colts certainly need someone to run the ball so Luck doesn’t have to throw the ball 60 times a game. It’s a perfect match.

jordan cameron winner during nfl free agency period 2015

Jordan Cameron, Cleveland Browns to Miami Dolphins: The real winner here may be Ryan Tannehill, but Cameron definitely deserves to be on this list. Cameron is one of the better tight ends in the NFL right now, and having a decent quarterback throwing him the ball is better than anything the Browns were able to offer. As long as he can stay healthy, Cameron could have his best NFL season yet.

owen daniels winner during nfl free agency period 2015

Owen Daniels, Baltimore Ravens to Denver Broncos: Joe Flacco is no Peyton Manning. Daniels made the best decision possible by going to Denver, especially with Julius Thomas leaving for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Daniels will most likely be the go-to tight end for Manning this season, and he is already very familiar with Gary Kubiak as well from their time together in Houston and Baltimore.

Losers

demarco murray loser during nfl free agency period 2015

DeMarco Murray, Dallas Cowboys to Philadelphia Eagles: Murray was by far the best running back in the NFL last season, but he also had 449 touches and the best offensive line in the NFL. In Philly Murray will be under a better offensive system with Chip Kelly in charge, but he will also be forced to share carries with Darren Sproles and Ryan Matthews. Also, Murray has shown himself to be relatively injury-prone, so after such a big workload in 2014 he may be due for another let down this season.

jimmy graham loser during nfl free agency period 2015

Jimmy Graham, New Orleans Saints to Seattle Seahawks: Poor Jimmy. After spending his entire professional career catching passes from Drew Brees, Graham is on his way to Seattle to play with Russell Wilson. Graham is going to see a sharp reduction in his numbers this season, going from a team who threw 690 times (second most in the NFL) to the Seahawks who were dead last in passing attempts with 496. It looks like his 1,200 yard, 15 touchdown seasons are over.

julius thomas biggest loser during nfl free agency period 2015

Julius Thomas, Denver Broncos to Jacksonville Jaguars: J. Thomas decided he was tired of living in Peyton Manning’s shadow and wanted to venture out and be the big dog on the Jaguars. Well, Thomas will most likely be the Jags best offensive weapon this season, but that really isn’t saying much. Thomas has scored 24 touchdowns over the past two seasons—only five less than all the passing touchdowns the Jags have scored as a team over the same amount of time. Going from the best quarterback ever to pick up a football to Blake Bortles is possibly the worst decision a player could make if he has any championship aspirations at all. The Jaguars are the laughingstock of the league, and unfortunately Thomas will be a part of that as he watches his numbers fall dramatically in 2015.

Ronda Rousey Was Just One Time WWE Show for WrestleMania

0

ronda rousey making no more wwe shows after wrestlemania 31

Yup, we know that everyone says this is their last time doing something, but UFC fireball Ronda Rousey’s agent Brad Slater is putting a quick nix on the rumor that his star client will be doing more things with the WWE after her surprising appearance at WrestleMania 31…but you know how money can change things. She’s being extremely smart and marketing savvy as we know she’s getting close to retirement and making sure that her face and name are out there and for sale post career. With another movie coming her way plus plenty of endorsement deals, Rousey is going to have a very sweet retirement nest egg after the UFC is long gone for her.

UFC champion Ronda Rousey sent the sports entertainment world into a tizzy with her well-publicized in-ring appearance over the weekend at WrestleMania 31.

Unfortunately for fans (of the WWE at least), they won’t be seeing Rousey in a squared circle again anytime soon.

Rousey’s agent, Brad Slater, told UFC Tonight on Wednesday that no further plans were being discussed for her to take part in any WWE programming, now, or in the future. Slater made clear that Rousey is focused and currently preparing for her looming showdown with Bethe Correia at UFC 190 later this summer in Brazil.

The news puts to rest days of speculation after Rousey teamed with legendary performer Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on Sunday’s year-end spectacular. “Rowdy” was pulled from the crowd to confront antagonists Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. What ensued was a fun bit of back and forth between everyone, ending with “Rowdy” showcasing some of her signature judo skills on the bad guys.

ronda rousey with dwayne johnson bulge shots 2015

After the surprise appearance, on what some may call ‘competitor’ television, speculation ran wild as to Rousey’s future intentions with the WWE. Furthering fodder were dual social media posts from The Rock and Rousey teasing at a potential pairing down the line at some point. The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer reported that a possible in-ring tag-team of the entertainment behemoths was even being discussed for next year’s WrestleMania 32 in Dallas, Texas.

But if the WWE is looking to get 100,000 fans in Dallas next spring, as publicly stated, they likely will not be doing it with the UFC superstar’s help.

Is the Anti-Tech Backlash Real or Just a Few Paranoid People Making Noise?

0

anti tech backlash happening for san francisco 2015

There’s a rumor that we are about to experience a major anti-technology backlash. One which will result from another economic bubble much like the dotcom crash that happened at the turn of the millennium. That somehow, our current economy centered on technology will collapse in on itself and that people will blame tech companies for another great depression. Should we be worried? Are the naysayers behind these rumors correct or are they just paranoid?

When we talk about advances in technology, people wonder and anticipate the convenience and entertainment factors new technologies put on the table. What many don’t realize is that with advances in technology, there can be consequences. When technological advances are applied, changes can happen – and change, is often difficult for many to accept. Uncomfortable changes, when applied suddenly can hurt like a bullet. But when applied gradually, in other words, allowed to mature, it’s like an itch that eventually fades. Despite many positive promises of a new technology, people could come to hate and avoid it.  What’s convenient for some, may be uncomfortable for others. What’s fun for some may not be fun at all for everyone else. What could make someone rich, could render others homeless.

There are people that view some technology advancements with resentment because these ‘advancements’ could disrupt their lives and livelihood. There are people, even whole communities that view entire tech industries as a plague rolling through the land. Anti-technology backlash is real. It’s basically the same as it was centuries ago when mirrors and cameras were accused of stealing people’s souls, when Galileo was persecuted for saying that the earth was not the center of the universe and when Sir Isaac Newton was persecuted by the Catholic Church for explaining why our feet sticks to the ground. Time passed and now we take pictures of ourselves everywhere, we believe that there may be more than one universe and we now know the particle responsible for the concept of mass. Anti-technology backlash continue to happen today when technologies are introduced that adversely affect certain sectors.

anti tech backlash hitting cities 2015

One good example of an anti-technology backlash is what happened with Google Glass. With Google Glass, the technology and concept of a wearable computer with screens displayed on an eyepiece was familiar to many, in the realm of science-fiction or something to be dealt with in the not-so-distant future. But Google decided the future is now and tested it out in public through developers and early adopters. We all know the result. Input with Google Glass comes from the user’s voice, a small touchpad on the side of the eyepiece and a camera with a LED that indicates whether that camera is shooting or recording. Users would go around walking or talking with others with the LED on but when the public found out what the device can do, they felt like they were being watched. We all know that the feeling of being watched doesn’t turn out well for characters in movies. Society wasn’t ready to be recorded with or without its permission unless it’s from members of the press. The device was banned in many restaurants and other public places for security reasons. Movie theaters banned it because of fear of piracy and people considered it impolite to wear during conversations. Current driving laws prohibit drivers from reading trivia that pops up in front of their eyes about a passing landmark while driving. People supposed to spearhead a technology that would open up society to a new world of readily and easily available information became ostracized. The sacred law about not assaulting people with glasses, repeatedly broken. Google Glass made the public wary of similar devices despite having much promise, in terms of journalism, medicine, communication and navigation. Its dip in popularity has resulted in Google pulling it out of the market but Google insists that it will come back and is in the middle of another development phase.

Another case is Uber, one of the technology industry’s fastest rising stars. Now Uber has managed to address one of society’s major problems—the lack of on-demand public transportation. Centered around the Uber mobile app, users can quickly get available licensed or non-licensed drivers to get them to places much quicker than hailing a cab during rush hour. The app’s online nature unfortunately places it in the same gray area as the internet, so new transport laws need to be crafted to adapt to this new concept. While such is being done, ordinary transport groups that don’t or can’t take advantage of the service cry unfair competition due to its flexible and sometimes surging pricing. They have come to hate on-demand transport technology. In some states and countries, Uber and other apps in its category are viewed with distrust due to safety issues and is considered an illegal taxi service which unfortunately is unidentifiable due to lack of markings.

In fairness to Uber and Google Glass, both technologies show much promise. Uber can revolutionize the taxi system if it hasn’t already. Google Glass can also revolutionize education, medicine, aviation and navigation. Both technologies have arrived a little too fast for the public. Major changes are behind these two technologies and the public needs a little more time to adjust.

Another example is 3D technology in television and movies. Advances in technology allowed 3D to be available in new TVs and marketed as the primary viewing method. 3D was also integrated in many movies. However, not everyone can buy expensive 3D TVs and not everyone in a room can watch 3D if there aren’t enough glasses to go around. Movie houses often provide awkward-sized uncomfortable 3D glasses to patrons and combined with awful movies slapped with 3D, headaches took on a whole new dimension. The hype eventually died down and 3D was reserved for only the good movies due to some three-dimensional bombs. The current economy also doesn’t allow for the high premium slapped on 3D movies.

One last example of an anti-tech backlash is the gentrification of the Silicon Valley Area which houses more well-paid technology workers than ordinary average-paid workers in other fields. The area’s cost of living continues to rise resulting in the displacement of the area’s low to average-paid residents. More and more overpriced coffee shops and fancy restaurants replace old diners. Free work shuttles of tech companies use municipal bus stops delaying ordinary public transports. Those same residents have come to resent the technology companies that give Silicon Valley its name. This also happens in other similar areas around the country and the world.

There will always be anti-technology backlashes when new yet needed technologies are seen as incompatible with by some sectors. Just like in the early 80s and 90s when there was a real fear that advances in robotics for assembly lines could cost people’s jobs and movements and strikes were held against companies that wanted full automation. They were correct. Some jobs were replaced by machines but as time went by, companies find out that in many cases, there’s still no replacement for good-old fashioned elbow grease and that robotics is quite expensive so now many people still find jobs in the manufacturing industry. The machines get the dull and easy jobs.

Anti-tech backlashes come and go when society finally adjusts to new technologies and concepts. Our brains will keep coming up with new things. Change is the only real constant. As for the impending collapse of the tech industry, so far it remains a rumor as technology companies continue to grow and multiply thanks to innovative startups and crowd-funding as well as our ironically voracious appetites for new stuff.
