Roger Federer is showing no signs of slowing down as he earned his 85th ATP World Tour title on Sunday afternoon, beating third seed Pablo Cuevas at the the inaugural BNP Paribas Istanbul Open. Final score was 6-3, 7-6 (11) and it only took one hour and 35 minutes.

The top seed capitalized on one of his three break point opportunities to easily take the first set in 33 minutes. The Swiss broke again in the seventh game of the second set and looked to be in cruise control until the 29-year-old Uruguayan broke back to level the set at 4-all. Federer then earned triple break point on Cuevas’ serve before the World No. 23 was able to hold at 5-4.

In the eventual second set tie-break, Federer saved three set points and needed five match points to finally seal the victory in one hour and 36 minutes.

The Swiss tennis star didn’t seem to have much difficulty taking out Cuevas and seem more intent on taking the Title before moving on to the Madrid Open where there’s a possibility of him taking on Rafael Nadal. The first set went relatively easy, but the second set had more excitement at the end of a very exciting tie-break where Federer proved too much.

The World No. 2 improved to 85-43 in tour-level finals and added to his two other titles already this season (also Brisbane, Dubai).

Federer closed with 7 aces and 2 double faults, 74 % of first serve points won, 61 % of second serve points won, and 0/1 break points saved. Cuevas closed with 3 aces and 1 double fault, 57 % of first serve points won, 57 % of second serve points won, and 7/9 break points saved.

With the win, Turkey became the 19th different country in which Federer has won an ATP World Tour title.

Cuevas was attempting to capture his second ATP World Tour title of the season, having won the crown in Sao Paulo in February.

As winner, Federer took home 80,000 Euros and 250 Emirates ATP Rankings points. Cuevas earned 42,100 Euros and 150 Emirates ATP Rankings points.

Floyd Mayweather Now 48-0 Defeats Manny Pacquiao by Unanimous Decision in Super Fight

floyd money mayweather beats manny pacquiao fight 2015

After decades of waiting, the super fight of the generation is over—Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr. has defeated Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao by unanimous decision in the MGM Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Although Pacquiao had his moments, especially early, Mayweather really dominated the match by controlling the tempo and rolling away from everything Pacquiao could throw at him.

Mayweather established himself as one of the best defensive boxers of all time in this match, allowing under 20 percent of Pac’s punches to land. Pacquiao was able to energize the crowd early and often by getting Mayweather in a corner, but even then it was tough for him to connect.

floyd mayweather punching manny pacquiao 2015 images

About halfway through, it was pretty close. Mayweather was still in the lead. Pacquiao had created some big moments early, but only enough to win a pair of the first six according to the official judges.

Floyd Mayweather, Sr. was tough on his son in the corner, because he understood that although Mayweather was in the lead, he needed to make that more obvious to the judges. He had a pretty cocky attitude about himself for the majority of the match, having no doubt at any point that he was in the lead.

During the championship rounds (the last two or three), Pacquiao looked a little worn down; and Floyd become even more arrogant as he began to pull away. It was during these rounds that it went from a split decision to a unanimous one. In the last round, Pacquiao obviously needed a knockout to win, but he seemed drained. He made no serious effort to land a knock-out punch, leading to even more taunting from Mayweather.

At the end of the day, Mayweather did earn and deserve the victory. Saying that he “ran away all night” completely ignores his strategy as a general in the ring. Pacquiao is one of the fastest strikers in the sport, and Mayweather’s moves and shoulder rolls made it nearly impossible for Pac-Man to land any serious punches.

manny pacquiao taking it hard from floyd mayweather 2015

Mayweather is the best in the sport right now because he always figures out his opponents. It took him about six rounds in this one, but he figured out Pacquiao and adjusted his game plan accordingly.

Pacquiao simply didn’t look prepared to go against someone as experienced as Mayweather. Although he was able to land some good punches, they came few and far between. Even when he got him against the ropes, Pacquiao would lunge forward making it easy for Floyd to grab onto him.

The fight may have been closer than the score cards indicated, but at the end of the day Mayweather kept himself on top of the sport with a decisive victory. Pacquiao shouldn’t hold his head down, however—he put up a great fight, and he still stands to bring in a solid $100 million from the event.

final fight stats for mayweather vs pacquiao 2015

The fight has been years in the making; and whether or not you think it lived up to the massive hype, it was a great one. It’s amazing to think about what could have happened just a few years ago when Pac was still in his prime. Five years ago, Manny would have beaten Mayweather, easy.

Maybe that’s why the fight was delayed so long. Or maybe it was just the hatred between Floyd and his former (and Pacquiao’s current) promoter Bob Arum. After all, Arum did say that Mayweather was finally “shamed” into this fight.

That’s all speculation at this point—Mayweather improves to 48-0, and rightfully so.

How To Make Your Tablet Hacker & Malware Proof

protecting tablets from malware and hackers 2015

According to figures from emarketer.com there are now more than 1 billion tablet users worldwide – that makes up a staggering 15% of the global population.

With the sheer number of users surfing the Internet from their tablets it’s no surprise that they are now becoming the target of hackers.

Not so long ago it used to be fair to assume that you would be safe whilst using a tablet device and that there was no risk of developing a virus similar to the ones that are so common on PCs and laptops. Unfortunately now that is not the case. Whilst viruses that attack tablet operating systems are rare, they do exist. There have been several viruses reported that attack Google’s Android OS and also a handful that will attack Apple’s iOS – posing as legitimate apps and then steeling credit card information amongst other sensitive data.

So how can you protect your tablet against these threats?

There are several steps that you can take in order to protect yourself against these threats and stay safe whilst using your tablet device.

google exploit code 2015

Be cautious when browsing the Internet

First and foremost comes caution – it is wise to always be aware of the sites you are visiting whilst on your tablet – don’t visit any sites that you are not familiar with, avoid clicking on links such as adverts that will take you to a new external website and don’t open attachments in emails unless you know who they are from and what they contain.

Keep your tablet up to date

Updating your tablet device is just as important as updating your PC. When software companies release updates they are often in response to known security threats and do the job of fixing or securing your tablet from those threats. Because of this it is critical that the tablet be kept up to date at all times. Both Android and Apple devices publish regular updates and you will receive notifications about them on the device itself.

Don’t plug your device into unknown computers or charging points

Once you plug your device into a USB point – whether it’s connected to a charging point or to another PC it is a potential risk. Once connected to a computer any malicious code could potentially be uploaded to your device so it is best to be extremely cautious when plugging your device in to an unknown piece of hardware.

Install software protection

Android OS have several antivirus and antimalware products available from the Google Play store. Two of the better known antivirus products that are available for Android are Avast and AVG. Both of these products are free and come in the form of an App that can be downloaded direct from your Android tablet. Once installed these apps will monitor and protect the tablet from threats and malware as they arise.

Apple devices such as the iPad also have a couple of options although they are less comprehensive than the Android offerings. Companies such as Norton and Intego have made security products available to iOS although they are still in development.

Staying vigilant

Aside from all of the precautionary steps listed above the key thing to remember when using your tablet is that you are still at risk from these threats. The most common mistake that people make is thinking that they cannot get a virus or malware on their tablet and this makes them far more likely to click on a link and download a virus by accident.

So whilst browsing the Internet, checking emails or searching through the respective app stores from your tablet just keep in mind that there are threats out there and don’t click on any suspicious or unknown links.

It is also a good idea to take regular backups of your tablet devices – this means that in the event of your device becoming compromised you can always perform a factory reset on the device and then restore your data from the latest backup.

Lastly, it is also a good idea to use strong passwords for your tablet devices and change them regularly to prevent your secret details from becoming compromised.

Microsoft Takes the Edge Off

microsoft spartan now called edge tech 2015

If there’s one thing Microsoft is consistent in, its failure in nomenclature. It just announced that its new web browser, Project Spartan will officially be named Edge. It’s not bad, but it doesn’t seem good enough. Gerard Butler can forget about having a stylized Leonidas face as the browser’s icon. The browser’s icon is even worse. It has an uncanny resemblance to that familiar ‘e’ icon of Internet Explorer which gives everyone the impression that Edge is not really a complete departure from Internet Explorer. For anyone who’s not privy to the code involved, it might as well be a recycled core and not a project from scratch as Microsoft says.

We’re not saying that the browser itself was bad. Early evaluations point to it as being legitimately different. The browser performed well enough and pushed through on its promises. But branding and marketing just doesn’t seem to be Microsoft’s strong suit lately. Projects such as the Kin and Zune failed because they weren’t as catchy as Galaxy, iPhone or iPod. Forget the name, also consider the marketing. Both brands had fine devices though. How about Windows NT? What does NT mean to everyone else but the server pushers? It’s pretty ambiguous to the executives who were supposed to approve its purchase. Thankfully, its reliability and features speaks for itself. What about Windows 8 RT? Sad to say, its target market wouldn’t know what to make of the word Runtime unless they’re familiar with coding. To those who are, it still doesn’t make much sense. Windows 8 Lite, Windows 8 Modern or Windows 8 Tablet Edition would have made much more sense and totally differentiated this ARM-based operating system with its hybrid sister product.

Everyone was hoping Edge’s project name, Spartan, would later become official because not only does it suggest power and simplicity, it sounds cool enough to browse 300 websites with and take on that other empire. It’s not like there’s a trademark problem. Microsoft’s reason for choosing a name that starts with the letter e is to absurdly keep that iconic ‘e’ browser icon. When users click on the e icon on Windows, they know they’re opening up a browser and not some obscure app. It is quite a problem for icon-focused users such as those on Android when looking for the default browser which is somewhat nondescript. Many non-Apple oriented iPhone users don’t know that Safari was the phone’s browser.

microsoft edge replaces spartan and internet explorer 2015

According to Microsoft, familiarity is key. But then again, it’s marketing laziness. Users could easily get familiar with other icons with proper marketing and dissemination of information. A couple of commercials on Superbowl ought to do it. But they’d rather stick to that familiar ‘e’ icon which few choose unless the company tells you to. Users would use Firefox or Chrome if they were installed on the computer. Familiarity with the ‘e’ icon is a good point but Internet Explorer’s unsecure bloated reputation isn’t exactly good.

Windows 10 is still a few months away. Still time for Microsoft to change its mind, make up some excuse and ditch or revise the Edge’s icon. The reality of things is, no matter how good a person or a product is, if some bad reputation precedes it, few would touch it. Edge is still haunted by the ghost of Internet Explorer. Edge is Morley in chains and Microsoft is Scrooge refusing to let go. Microsoft needs to take a page from Disney, not from Dickens or Edge could be doomed to failure.

Roger Federer & Rafael Nadal Top Names For 2015 Madrid Open

roger federer and rafeal nadal headline names for madrid tennis open 2015

It’s hard to believe that we’re already on our fourth ATP Masters 1000 major event of the season with the 2015 Mutua Madrid Open, and after Novak Djokovic dropped out, the biggest headliner names competing are Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. After Friday’s draw, this open could bring Rafi and the Swiss on the courts for a match we would all love to see.

The Mutua Madrid Open, features 18 of the Top 20 players in the Emirates ATP Rankings for the second year in a row. Leading the way this week is three-time Madrid champion Roger Federer (2006, ‘09, ’12). The top seed is joined by Andy Murray – a winner here in 2008 in the tournament’s last year on hard courts, four-time champion Rafael Nadal(2005, ‘10, ‘13, ‘14) and last year’s runner-up Kei Nishikori. The event takes place at La Caja Mágica, which features three main stadiums with a capacity for 12,500, 3,500 and 2,500, respectively. In the case of rain, all three courts have retractile covers that allow play to continue. The tournament was held indoors from 2002-08.

DAY 1 PREVIEW: The men’s singles draw opens on Sunday with two matches. The main show courts sees Nicolas Almagro and Juan Monaco, who have more than 470 clay-court wins between them, clash for the 11th time with the Spaniard edging their FedEx ATP H2H series 6-4. No. 15 seed Kevin Anderson goes up against Simone Bolelli in the day’s other match-up. The last round of qualifying also concludes on Sunday.

BIG FOUR DOMINATION: The quartet of Nadal, Federer, Murray andNovak Djokovic have accounted for 42 of the last 46 ATP Masters 1000 tournaments (since 2010 Monte-Carlo). The only exceptions came at Paris-Bercy in 2010 (Robin Soderling) and 2012 (David Ferrer) and last year in Monte-Carlo (Stan Wawrinka) and Toronto (Jo-Wilfried Tsonga).

FEDERER GOING FOR FOUR: Federer has a 36-9 career record in Madrid and is looking to win the title for the fourth time. He won here on hard courts in 2006 (d. Gonzalez) and on clay courts in 2009 (d. Nadal) and 2012 (d. Berdych). He was also runner-up in 2007 and 2010. In his last Madrid appearance two years ago, he lost to Nishikori in the 3R. The world No. 2 is chasing a 24th ATP Masters 1000 crown this week. Djokovic joined him on 23 titles at this level with his victory in Monte-Carlo last month.

RAFA’S TITLE STREAK: Nadal is aiming to extend his streak of winning at least one European ATP World Tour clay court title leading into Roland Garrosto 11 straight years. The Spaniard’s run of heading to Paris with at least two titles on European clay ended last year after an impressive nine-year run from 2005-13. The World No. 4 is coming off a SF loss in Monte-Carlo and a 3R exit in Barcelona. He has an 11-3 record on clay this season. The last time he lost more than three matches on clay in a season was in his rookie campaign in 2003 when he went 11-6.

POINTS TO DEFEND: In the next two weeks, Nadal has 1,600 Emirates ATP Ranking points dropping off with his Madrid title (1,000) and Rome runner-up (600) showing from last year. In the past six years Nadal has performed well at the two ATP Masters 1000 clay court tournaments leading into Roland Garros, reaching the final in 11 of his last 12 appearances at each of these events (Madrid five, Rome six).

200 CLUB ON CLAY: Six (in bold) of the seven active players on the ATP World Tour to win at least 200 matches on clay are in the main draw. This past week in Istanbul, Federer became the seventh active player added to the list. He also joined an elite group to have won 200+ matches on both clay and hard courts: Nadal, David Ferrer and Tommy Robredo. Here are the players with at least 200 clay wins:
W-L            Clay Titles
Rafael Nadal        329-27             46
David Ferrer        294-114            12

Roger Federer      202-63              10 (in Istanbul final)
Albert Montanes   202-176            6

CLAY-COURT TITLE LEADERS: Nadal is three clay-court titles away from equaling Guillermo Vilas’ all-time record of 49 tournament wins on the surface. The title leaders on clay are:

Player            Clay Titles
Guillermo Vilas        49
Rafael Nadal           46
Thomas Muster       40
Bjorn Borg              30

Novak Djokovic        30-2
David Ferrer             27-5
Tomas Berdych        27-7
Kei Nishikori            26-5
Andy Murray            24-5 (in Munich final)

• LEANDER EYES 700th WIN: India’s Leander Paes is one win away from becoming the fourth active player on the ATP World Tour with 700 career match wins in doubles. The other active players with 700-more are: Daniel Nestor (970), Mike Bryan (946) and Bob Bryan (932).

BRYANS FOR SIX? World No. 1 Bob and Mike Bryan are five-time champions in Madrid (2006, ‘07, ‘10, ’11 and ‘13). Last year they fell short of another repeat, losing in the final to Nestor-Zimonjic 6-4, 6-2. The Bryans come into Madrid having captured the past two ATP Masters 1000 titles in Miami and Monte-Carlo. They have won a doubles record 34 ATP Masters 1000 crowns and 106 titles overall together. They have finished No. 1 in 10 of the past 12 seasons.

Anthony Davis & New Orleans Pelicans Look Ahead After Early Playoff Exit

0

anthony david pelicans out of nba playoffs 2015

No one gave the 8th seed New Orleans Pelicans much of a chance against the Golden State Warriors, but despite being swept they showed the ability to keep up with top seed in every game of the short series, especially with Anthony Davis on board.

The Pelicans showed off a lot of their positive attributes in the series; however, Game 3 showed that they weren’t quite ready for the spotlight yet. Up by as much as 20 points in the 4th quarter, the Pels blew the led to the fired-up Warriors squad, losing in overtime. The NBA later apologized for missing two fouls committed by the Warriors with under a minute left; but the mental damage was done, and the Pels really had no chance in Game 4 after such a devastating loss two nights before.

Don’t let the early playoff exit fool you, fans—the Pelicans had a fantastic 2014-2015 NBA season all things considered. A 45-37 record and a tie-breaker over the Oklahoma City Thunder put the Pels in the playoffs with the 8th seed in the tough Western Conference. It wasn’t an easy journey by any means with injuries and general inexperience plaguing the team all throughout the season yet again, but the Pelicans have shown tremendous potential for the future.

Tyreke Evans is playing some of the best basketball of his career, Jrue Holiday has stepped up as a team leader when he’s healthy, Quincy Pondexter has emerged as a sharp-shooter, and Eric Gordon didn’t completely anger fans this year by claiming to be injured and collecting a fat check like in years past. In fact, Gordon was a key part of this team’s long-range threat, finishing the season with 44.8 percent from beyond the arc—the second-best in the NBA.

anthony davis with coach monty williams pelicans 2015

Then, of course, there’s Anthony Davis. The 22-year-old superstar forward made the leap this season from good All-Star to top-three elite NBA player. With 24.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game to go along with a Player Efficiency Rating (PER) of 30.89, Davis did it all for the Pelicans this season. If this team is going to make its first playoff run without Chris Paul on the roster, Davis will need to be the man leading the charge; and he is definitely happy with the direction in which the team is moving right now:

“We improved from last season in different categories,” said Davis. “[Our progress is] right on time. It’s all a learning experience. We’re learning as a unit, and individually. I think the pace we’re on right now is good. We improved each year, I improved each year. People counted us out for the playoffs, but we never doubted for one second that we couldn’t get in. We gave the Warriors a tough fight. Guys played well. That’s all you can ask for.”

The rest of the team shares in Davis’s optimism looking forward to next season. They understand that they had a tough break with multiple injuries and such this season; and they can do much better in the coming years with a healthy slate of players.

“You look at our record, if we had this [complete healthy] team through the whole year, we could’ve at least had five more wins,” said Pelicans forward Ryan Anderson. “We could’ve possibly had homecourt advantage [in the first round]. That’s kind of exciting to think about.

It’s hard to argue with him there. A full season with Pondexter, Dante Cunningham, and Norris Cole as well as a healthy Davis and Holiday could certainly mean a better playoff ranking in 2016.

Really, with head coach Monty Williams and Anthony Davis together, this team will only continue to get better.

New York Rangers vs Washington Capitals: 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs

new york rangers beat washington capitals stanley cup playoffs 2015

Saturday was generally a busy day in sports however in the 2015 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs specifically, the action was fairly quiet. Only the Washington Capitals and the New York Rangers played as the two teams met for game two of their second round series. Playing from Madison Square Garden in New York, the Rangers entered game two down 0-1 in the series and in desperate need of a victory.

In response to the pressure, the Rangers came out strong as they opened the scoring in game two in the opening minute. Chris Kreider tallied his second goal of the post-season on assists from Jesper Fast and Derek Stepan at the 38-second mark. New York, in taking firm control of the game, would add to their lead with a powerplay goal from veteran Dan Boyle later in the first period.

rangers beat capitals in 2015 stanley cup playoffs

But the second period belonged to Washington as Evgeny Kuznetsov, following missed chances by the Caps, scored his fourth goal of the post-season on an assist from Jason Chimera. Derick Brassard of New York then scored what would later become the game winner early in the third period. However Alex Ovechkin, with his fourth goal of the post-season, made things close when he scored about halfway through the frame.

In the end New York, on a night when they needed a victory, delivered in front of their home crowd 3-2. However, with the series leaving New York, it may be Washington that could claim moral victory. They did earn a much-desired split at Madison Square Garden and that means that the Caps simply need to win their home games to move on to the next round.

Washington also has to be feeling good about the play of Ovechkin. The Russian has two goals in as many games and you might expect his play only to improve at the Verizon Center. Games three and four with both come from Washington on Monday night and Wednesday night respectively.

Rafael Nadal’s Munich Open Less Challenging Without Novak Djokovic

rafael nadal could win madrid open without novak djokovic 2015

Novak Djokovic is letting someone else like Rafael Nadal get a chance to claim a Masters event this season after his trifecta win with Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo. That’s not including his in Australia, but the Serbian tennis star is being smart in taking a bit of downtime so he can practice and rest up as he’s got his eye on winning his first French Open.

The absence of the world number one could prove a big boost for defending champion Rafael Nadal as he tries to get his season going on home soil after a poor start to the campaign by his standards.

Nadal has won just one tournament this year in Buenos Aires back in February and has only one win against a top 10 opponent in a 19-7 record on the year.

The 14-time Grand Slam champion described his performance as “awful” in crashing out to Fabio Fognini at the Barcelona Open last week.

But he recovered from a similarly unsettling start on the clay last season to go onto claim his fourth title in Madrid before securing a ninth French Open.

Three-time winner Roger Federer returns after missing last year’s event due to the birth of his second set of twins, whilst Andy Murray will be confident of improving on his best ever showing in Madrid since the tournament moved onto clay having not progressed past the quarter-finals in five previous attempts.

However, the biggest threat to Nadal could come from last year’s finalist Kei Nishikori, who looked in fine form as he retained his title in Barcelona.

rafael nadal chance to go with roger federer at madrid open 2015

Serena Williams ‘not ready’

On the women’s side, Serena Williams will be aiming to continue her imperious 20-0 start to the season.

Williams also hasn’t lost in Madrid since 2010, winning the tournament in 2012 and 2013 before injury forced her to pull out at the quarter-final stage last year.

Amazingly, though, the American claimed she was “not as ready for the clay-court season as I thought I was” in being taken to a deciding set before beating Italy’s Sara Errani on Fed Cup duty two weeks ago.

The 19-time Grand Slam champion also faces a tough draw with Sloane Stephens a potential second round opponent and a meeting with sister Venus or Victoria Azarenka lying in wait in the third round.

Defending champion Maria Sharapova is on the other side of the draw along with Simona Halep, who the Russian overcame to win last year’s final.

“I enjoy playing here a lot. I got to the final in 2013 and lost to Serena then last year I managed to go a step further and win. The objective this year is to defend my title,” said Sharapova.

After reaching the Australian Open final, Sharapova has had a poor couple of months, losing her first match in Miami and Stuttgart in her last two tournaments and being surpassed by Halep in the rankings.

“At this stage of my career I don’t take the ranking as seriously. I was number one in the world and it is something that comes and goes,” she added.

“I doesn’t matter, the important thing is that I continue have the chance to win matches and tournaments.”

Floyd Mayweather’s Record Untouched After Manny Pacquiao Fight

It didn’t matter whether you were a boxing fan or not, you knew that Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao were entering the ring for what the media and promotions were calling the ‘fight of the century’, and the two men delivered quite the show. With all the money involved and ticket prices through the roof, they knew this was all about the show and they did deliver that plus your money’s worth. You can check out the full highlights below.

Floyd Mayweather outboxed and outmaneuvered Manny Pacquiao to claim a unanimous points victory in the most lucrative boxing match in history Saturday, taking his unblemished professional record to 48-0 and cementing his place as one of the greatest fighters of all time.

After 12 high-intensity and often tactically cautious rounds, the judges scorecards at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas read 118-110, 116-112 and 116-112 in favor of Mayweather.

And while Vegas is a town not unfamiliar with a controversial points decision, there could be little disputing the outcome of this showdown for the WBA, WBC and WBO welterweight titles.

floyd mayweather vs manny pacquiao fight 2015

For some, it was the fight that almost never happened as high demand meant some pay-per-view viewers in the U.S. experienced disruptions to their service.

Yet after a short delay to proceedings to enable broadcast problems to be ironed out, “MayPac” was finally on.

‘Fight of the Century’

The sense of anticipation as both men entered the ring was all the $300 million purse and their indisputable reputations promised.

Ready to rumble

The way the fight began Saturday, it looked like those predicting a supremely focused Mayweather were correct.

The 10-time world champion and the larger man, sought to establish his dominance early, using his jab to keep the powerful Pacquiao at a distance while landing with two large right hands early on.

But Pacquiao was the aggressor at the beginning of round two. The Filipino moved forward more although he still found it difficult to make contact with the ever illusive Mayweather.

Earlier in the week, former middleweight world champion Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins described Mayweather’s defensive style as like a turtle going into its shell. “You can beat that shell up but you’re not hurting him.”

mayweather gets in on manny pacquiao 2015

Like the wily tortoise up against the hare, the man with the impenetrable shell looked to be in control.

Round three offered much of the same but Pacquiao finally began to land in round four, pushing Mayweather against the ropes and letting rip with a sequence of blows to the body.

Mayweather fought back in five and six, reasserting his control although Pacquiao twice caught him with his dangerous left hand.

By the eighth, the fight had become a chess match. Mayweather moved and picked his opponent off with the jab. Pacquiao was only landing with 18% of his punches, far fewer than his usual average of 34%.

When the 10th arrived the cocky Mayweather was back, smiling and dropping his hands to taunt an increasingly frustrated Pacquiao.

The Pacquiao corner knew a knockout was required but their man had to catch his fleet-footed opponent in the opposite corner first.

Alas, it was a task the crowd favorite could not rise to, although the fighter himself felt he had done enough to claim victory.

“I thought I won,” Pacquiao said in the ring post fight. “He didn’t do nothing, just moved outside. I got him many times.”

“He is moving around and it’s not easy to throw a lot of punches if your opponent moves around. I can handle his power, it’s not strong like other opponents. It’s not about size. I’ve been fighting bigger than him and it’s not a problem.”

Understandably, the victorious Mayweather — as well as most ring-side observers — disagreed.

“I was a smart fighter, I out-boxed him,” said Mayweather, shaking off boos from the crowd which was unimpressed with his defensive style.

“We did what we had to do tonight. I knew he was going to push me. He had moments in the fight but I kept him on the outside.”

“He’s a hell of a fighter. Now I see why he is one of the guys at the pinnacle of the sport of boxing.”

Roger Federer & Rafael Nadal Could Meet Up For 2015 Madrid Open

The media, who’ve created the fictional intense rivalry between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are all salivating again as the two intensely competitive tennis champions could meet up again. in the semi-finals of the 2015 Mutua Madrid Open after Friday’s draw pitched them both in the top half of the 56-player field. Naturally, we all hope for this kind of match because the two men will fight to the death as Nafael has been trying to overcome his tennis slump and Federer is determined to go out on top although Novak Djokovic seems determined to stay in his number two position in the rankings.

Federer is the top seed in Madrid, the fourth ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament of the season, but it will not be a straightforward path for the Swiss. After a first-round bye, the 33-year-old Federer, who is through to the semi-finals in Istanbul this weekend, could face rising Australian star Nick Kyrgios in the second round. Kyrgios is also enjoying success on the clay this week, through to his first ATP World Tour semi-final in Estoril.

The third round could see Federer face Jeremy Chardy, whom he lost to on clay at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome last year, while 16th seed John Isner also features in that section and boasts a clay-court win over Federer in Davis Cup action three years ago.

Federer, who is chasing his 24th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crown next week, is seeded to face No. 6 Tomas Berdych in the quarter-finals. Berdych was present at Friday evening’s draw at the Caja Magica after starring in the event’s Charity Day alongside David Ferrer, Fernando Verdasco, Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki. The 29-year-old Czech finished runner-up at the Monte-Carlo Country Club last month and lost to Federer in a tight three-set final in Madrid three years ago.

The third-seeded Nadal is looking to win the Madrid title for the third year in a row, after beating Stan Wawrinka in the 2013 final and Kei Nishikori last year. The Spaniard comes into Madrid eager for a return to top form after a shock third-round exit to Fabio Fognini in Barcelona last week.

The left-hander opens against either Steve Johnson or a qualifier and is projected to meet 15th seed Kevin Anderson in the third round. But before any potential meeting with Federer, Nadal is likely to have to play either eighth seed Wawrinka or 10th seed Grigor Dimitrov, who is competing in the Istanbul semi-finals this weekend. Also in that section is Fognini.

Andy Murray and last year’s finalist Kei Nishikori headline the bottom half of the draw.

Murray, seeded second, opens his campaign against either a qualifier orPhilipp Kohlschreiber and could face 13th seed Gael Monfils in the third round. The Scot, who could play two singles matches in Munich on Saturday as he chases his first ATP World Tour clay-court title, is challenged in his quarter of the draw by fifth seed Milos Raonic and home favourite Feliciano Lopez.

Fourth seed Nishikori enters Madrid in a rich vein of form, having repeated as Barcelona champion last week. The Japanese star has a tricky opening match against either Ernests Gulbis or David Goffin and is projected to meet 14th seed Roberto Bautista Agut in the third round.

There is a strong Spanish contingent in the third quarter of the draw, with seventh seed David Ferrer, Tommy Robredo, Fernando Verdasco andGuillermo Garcia-Lopez all vying for a potential third-round clash with ninth seed Marin Cilic.

Main draw play begins on Sunday at the Caja Magica.

Andy Murray Moving To Munich Open Finals After Bump Up With Lukas Rosol

Andy Murray worked overtime on Saturday to move into the 2015 Munich Open finals after first beating Lukas Rosol 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, and then returning less than three hours later to defeat Roberto Bautista Agut in the semi-finals 6-4, 6-4. This was because of the rain on Friday which threw things off a bit.

Murray exchanged angry words with Rosol after the pair bumped into each other at a changeover, with Murray later describing it as “just silly”.

The Briton will play German fifth seed Philipp Kohlschreiber in the final.

Murray’s day began at 10:00 local time with a testing encounter against Czech Rosol, who reeled off five games in a row to take the first set.

Tempers frayed after the players made contact at the net between games, with Murray going on to tell Rosol across the court: “No-one likes you on the tour, everyone hates you.”

Murray, who is travelling with coach Jonas Bjorkman this week for the first time, responded positively to take control of the match, breaking five times on his way to victory.

“He walked straight into me for no reason,” Murray explained later. “If I walked into someone for no reason I would say sorry. But he did it and then ran to the other end.

“His fitness trainer later apologised. I should not have said what I did but if someone does that and you don’t respond, you let them dictate how the match goes.

“I was told by my father that if you get pushed around then you stick up for yourself.”

He added: “I have had no problems with him before, but a lot of players say he does those sort of things. It’s just silly. It gives more motivation and I told him that in the locker room.”

Third seed Bautista Agut beat Victor Estrella Burgos of the Dominican Republic 4-6 6-0 6-0, but the Spaniard could not build on a solid start against Murray in their semi-final.

The Briton turned around a 3-0 deficit with back-to-back breaks and made the decisive move with a third break at the start of the second set.

Murray later played his third match of the day when he and Dutchman Jean-Julien Rojer lost 6-3 6-2 to top seeds Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares in the doubles semi-finals.

Kohlschreiber had earlier needed one hour and 37 minutes to see off Austrian qualifier Gerald Melzer 2-6 6-1 6-4 in the second singles semi-final.

Roger Federer vs Pablo Cuevas: 2015 Istanbul Open Finals

Roger Federer fought hard to beat Diego Schwartzman at the 2015 Istanbul Open in three sets, and that doesn’t even include his code violation for angrily hitting the ball away as he dropped the first set.

Roger Federer beat eighth seed Diego Schwartzman 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 on Saturday to reach the final of the inaugural TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open.

The top seed reached his fourth ATP World Tour final of 2015 (2-1) and his 128th career final (84-43) as he looks to win a tour-level title in a 19th different country. He will face third seed Pablo Cuevas in Sunday’s final.

“I think what was important in the third set was to keep working hard,” said Federer. “I needed to put in a lot of effort to stay with Diego.

“Cuevas is playing very, very well… I think it’s going to be a tough match. Cuevas has obviously played a lot on clay.”

Federer fired six aces in the one hour, 55-minute match. The crowd was appreciative of the strong effort from Schwartzman, who saved eight of the 11 break points he faced, chanting “Diego!” as he left the court.

With his second-round victory on Wednesday, the World No. 2 became the seventh active player with at least 200 career match wins on clay.

Later, Cuevas broke on five of his six opportunities to prevail 6-2, 6-4 over second seed Grigor Dimitrov in one hour and 15 minutes.

The 29-year-old Uruguayan captured his third career title in Sao Paulo (d. Vanni) earlier this year. He is 3-0 in ATP World Tour finals.

“I come from a small country, and I’m used to having the crowd against me,” said Cuevas. “Playing Roger tomorrow will be like playing Roger in his hometown.”
