Justin Bieber Takes On Shawn Mendes While Drake Sticks With Serena Williams

drake dating serena williams fashion 2015 gossipDrake’s relationship with Serena Williams started off rocky, as the Canadian rapper got blamed for jinxing her at her last tennis match. The match was particularly important for Serena (and her fans), as a win would have meant she achieved a Grand Slam (aka winning all 4 major tennis championships in one year). Unfortunately for Drake, the jinxing controversy even got a point where Serena fans had the hash tag #BlameDrake trending on Twitter.

However, it seems the duo have chosen to ignore the #BlameDrake movement, as their relationship continues to blossom.

Drake was seen front row at the tennis pro’s fashion line show at New York Fashion Week.

On Tuesday, the Back to Back singer was seen sitting next to Anna Wintour, as they both watched the Serena Williams Signature Collection by HSN show. During the show, Drake was seen smiling and clapping, as he supported his new girl friend.

Along with Drake and Anna, the front row also facilitated supermodels Gigi Hadid and Lily Aldridge.

Drake’s support wasn’t one sided either. Serena gave him a shout out during her fashion show, as she played a few of his songs while the models walked the runway.

The couple continued expressing their affection for each other, as they were seen flirting with each other backstage after the show. In addition, Drake was photographed kissing Serena’s hand as he praised her fashion line.

justin bieber takes on shawn mendes 2015 gossipBattle of the young male pop-stars!

Justin Bieber threw some major shade at Canadian pop-star Shawn Mendes when he sat down for an interview with 95.5, a New York radio station.

The radio station host asked Bieber what his advice would be for fellow singer, 17-year-old Shawn Mendes. However, Bieber didn’t offer much of anything, as he coolly replied, “Who’s Shawn Mendes?”

After the radio host explained that Mendes is a Youtube and Vine star that quickly rose to fame with such hits as “Life of the Party” and “Stitches,” as well as debuted at No.1 with his first album, Bieber simply replied, “Nice. Nice. Good for him.”

Shawn Mendes has also spoken about Bieber. In April, Shawn revealed in an interview with the Toronto Sun that he didn’t want to be known as “the next Bieber.” Adding, “[Justin’s] stuff and style are totally different. When I play shows it’s just me and the guitar, it’s kind of unique. I mean, I really look up to Ed Sheeran. I really look up to Bruno Mars, and yeah, Justin’s great too.”

So it seems that both young male singers aren’t necessarily the biggest fans of one another. However, if Bieber really wants to rid himself of his “bad boy” image, he might want to start warming up to artists like Shawn.

Kanye West Gets Another Fashion Enemy & Cara Delevingne’s Cinderella Advice

kanye west gets new fashion enemy anne bowen fashion week 2015 gossipKanye West is making more enemies for himself. This time at New York Fashion Week.

Kanye announced last-minute that he will be putting on a fashion show on September 16 at noon. Unfortunately, designer Anne Bowen was planning to launch her new street collection (Nomad VII by Anne Bowen) right at the same time. Kanye’s announcement has forced the designer to reschedule her debut, thus causing her to express outrage at the rapper and situation.

Bowen explained to WWD on Sunday, “we have been prepping for a year for this at considerable financial, labor and commitment costs to our company. Our show date has been scheduled for months and has been on the Fashion Calendar for weeks. We went through all the proper channels to make this a reality. And just yesterday we learned that Kanye West is having a show at the same time and same date as ours.”

She goes on to explain her upset stating, “Kanye knows he is a media sensation and it is just not ethical to do this. It’s like we are David and he is Goliath. We have put our heart and soul into our show and should not be stepped on like this.”

Bowen’s show will now be on September 17 at 12:30 pm in Tao at 92 Ninth Avenue. She decided to reschedule her show, as she believed her line would have no significance if it was put on at the same time as Kanye’s impromptu show.

Bowen and her team expressed their outrage even further by issuing an official complaint with the CFDA fashion calendar. However, the president of CFDA said Kanye never announced his show on the calendar, and therefore they have no jurisdiction over Yeezus’ last minute show.

cara delevingne advice from richard madden 2015 gossipModel-turned-actress Cara Delevingne is getting some brutally honest advice from Cinderella actor Richard Madden, following her infamous interview with Good Day Sacramento.

While promoting her movie Paper Towns, Cara was called “grump” by news anchors on Good Day Sacramento as she gave short, blunt answers throughout the interview and used a fair share of sarcasm.

In an interview with Style magazine, Richard Madden said Cara’s behavior was “unprofessional,” adding “it made her seem ungrateful. She showed her age. For Cinderella, I did six weeks of those interviews, where you get asked the same eight questions.”

The former Game of Thrones star advised Cara, “If you’re not capable of doing it gracefully, then don’t do it.”

However, Cara does not seem like one to take Richard’s advice, as following the Good Day interview Cara slammed critics and defended her sarcastic comments, saying they made her more “human.”

She went on to tweet, “I am soooooooo lucky and anyone who thinks I am unappreciative and ungrateful clearly doesn’t know me. I work really really hard and love what I do, I don’t feel like I need to apologize for being human #sorrynotsorry.”

BIG BROTHER 1737: Austin Out & Vanessa Freaked

big brother 1737 austin evicted 2015 recapThe house flipped again on the latest episode of “Big Brother,” and Julie Chen announced that there will be a surprise eviction tonight. Steve said he was upset and kind of surprised that Vanessa is protecting Liz and Austin rather than himself and John. John said he would consider throwing the veto to Austin and Liz. He said he was trying to build trust with them so they would trust him more than Vanessa. Austin questioned John’s decision to back Austin up in this game.

This week’s power of veto competition was called Life In Pieces. Vanessa said John and Steve had to lose this competition or Liz and Austin would be up for eviction. The veto competition required them to put together a puzzle with the clock ticking. John said maybe he could throw the competition to Liz so that he wouldn’t have to worry. John said Austin and Liz would have to trust him. John won power of veto for this week. Austin said if Vanessa isn’t willing to keep him and Liz he is in trouble.

Steve said Vanessa was crying over John getting power of veto and that’s what she deserves. He said he thought Vanessa would choose to keep him in the game.

John called the veto meeting to order. He said he was using the power of veto to save himself. Vanessa then named Austin as the replacement nominee for eviction. Austin said he was OK with being up for eviction because he trusts Vanessa to keep him. Vanessa said getting to the final three with John was good for her game.

Steve said he had no words but being on the show was his dream come true. He thanked everyone for being a part of his experience. Austin said he and Steve have become best friends and they would remain so after the show. Liz voted to evict Steve. John voted to evict Austin. Vanessa was the tie breaker vote and she evicted Austin. She apologized profusely to him and he told her she’s not going to win the game. Austin said Vanessa voting him out was her best chance of winning.

This week’s head of household competition was called What the Bleep. Players are shown videos where one word is beeped out and must guess the word being beeped out. Steve won head of household for the week.

NFL Week 1 Recap 2015

0

Patriots 28 Steelers 21

Tom Brady is hell in a courtroom and hasn’t forgotten how to play quarterback either. Brady and the Patriots opened up the 2015 regular season with a great offensive showing against Pittsburgh. Brady looked as good as ever and Gronk had a monster game as well.

The Steelers suffered from two missed field goals, but did move the ball on the ground with DeAngelo Williams filling in nicely for the suspended Le’Veon Bell.

Eye popping stat of the game: Lots of contenders, but DeAngelo Williams averaged over six yards a carry. Hard to top that.

Turning point: Brady’s suspension being lifted last week, and Gronk recovering a fumble at the one to set up his third TD catch.

Fantasy league carnage: Gronk’s three scores had many a fantasy owner way down before the weekend.

Green Bay 31 Chicago 23

Aaron Rodgers can make any receiver look pretty damn good. James Jones came back to Green Bay after he was left on a church doorstep by the rest of the League. Jones filled in nicely for Jordy Nelson who is out for 2015 with an ACL injury.

Jones ended up with two touchdowns in a close game with a surprisingly tough Bears club.

Chicago stayed in the game with Matt Forte being used in multiple ways in the new Chicago offense. Forte ended the game with 141 yards.

Jay Cutler looked like Jay Cutler once again. 18 of 36 with one pick to offset his one TD throw will not get it done against Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay.

Eye popping stat of the game: Cast-off Jame Jones’ two TDs.

Nail in coffin play: Clay Matthews interception of Cutler in the fourth quarter.

Fantasy league carnage: James Jones was a sleeper that wrecked many a league.

Kansas City 27 Houston 20

Don’t be fooled by the score in this one. The Texans were outplayed from the jump. KC jumped to a 27-9 lead as Alex Smith and Travis Kelce hooked up for two of those scores.

J.J. Watt got two sacks just as he is paid to do, but the Texans defense just gave up too many big plays. They were simply beaten up and down the field until late in the game when they managed some late scores.

Ryan Mallett relieved Brian Hoyer who struggled mightily and the starter is up in the air for week two according to Bill O’brien.

Eye popping stat of the game: Smith throwing three TDs for KC.

Turning point: Brian Hoyer being named starter during training camp.

johnny manziel sacked by jets nfl recap week 1 images 2015

Fantasy league carnage: Travis Kelce chewed up some fantasy points and is no longer under the radar.
Cleveland 10 NY Jets 31

Johnny Football had the chance to save the day for Cleveland but coughed up the ball three times in relief of the injured Josh McCown. Manziel makes highlight reel moves just like in college, but seems to lose the ball much more now that he is in the League. J Football did have a nice deep pass for a score before he went off track.

The Jets got a great game from running back Chris Ivory and their receiving corp showed out as well. Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker are going to be a formidable duo if Ryan Fitzpatrick can be just be steady.

Eye popping stat of the game: Four lost fumbles for Cleveland.

Fantasy league carnage: Chris Ivory saved my fantasy Sunday as he was in the top tier of running backs.

Indianapolis 14 Buffalo 27

The score in this one is deceiving. Colts got waxed by a better football team. The Bills defense did not allow Luck and company to zoom up and down the field, holding Indy scoreless much of the game.

“T-Mobile” Tyrod Taylor had a great game, showing how deserving he is of QB1 status. His deep TD pass Percy Harvin was beau-ti-ful. Hopefuly Harvin can stay focused and be a consistent threat for the Bills all year.

Eye popping stat of the game: 6.2 yards per play for the Bills

Turning point: Kickoff. The Bills jumped on Indy early and stayed on them.

Miami 17 Washington 10

Kirk Cousins just can’t avoid INTs. They cost the Redskins in this winnable game with the Dolphins offense struggling most of the way.

Eye popping stat of the game: Alfred Morris back in form with 121 yards rushing.

Turning point: Jarvis Landry’s 69 yard punt return for the Phins.

Carolina 20 Jacksonville 9

In this forgettable game that was barely covered by the NFL RedZone, Carolina ended up on top. There were two late first half TD passes by each QB.

The second half was wrapped up with Blake Bortles tossing a pick six to ensure a Panthers’ win.

Eye popping stat of the game: Three Jags turnovers helped Carolina to the win.

seattle vs st louis nfl week 1 recap images 2015seattle vs st louis nfl week 1 recap images 2015

Fantasy league carnage: Carolina’s D had five sacks, two picks, and one INT to make them a top defense in fantasy play.
Seattle 31 St. Louis 34

This was the best game of Sunday’s lineup. We had overtime, Lynch toting six defenders at a time, and Tavon Austin showing out. What would have happened if the Rams had either Gurley or Tre Mason in the lineup?

Tyler Lockett showed how dangerous he will be in 2015 as the rookie exploded for a 57 yard punt return for six points. Jimmy Graham scored in his Seattle debut on a Rams blitz inside the ten yard line.

Seattle scored 18 points in the 4th quarter to tie the game. A sack scoop and score by the Hawks defense had the Rams on their heels.

Overtime was an adventure with Pete Carroll getting cute with an onside kick to start. That only cost Seattle a FG by the Rams. But the Seattle offense was out of bullets on their drive that ended with a fourth down Lynch run that failed. Rams win this first division battle between the two.

Eye popping stat of the game: 79 plays for the Hawks, 55 for the Rams.

Turning point: Rams fumble with nine minutes left in the game gave Seattle life.

Fantasy league carnage: Seattle’s defense scored more points than their skilled positions unsurprisingly.

New Orleans 19 Arizona 31

Carson Palmer looked laser sharp in this contest as Arizona topped New Orleans.

The Saints chewed up lots of passing yardage but settled for too many FGs. Palmer got his team in the end zone with help from three different receivers who benefited from his accuracy.

The Cardinals got the win but lost Andre Ellington to a knee injury, that will be further examined on Monday.

Eye popping stat of the game: Palmer’s 307 yards passing.

Fantasy league carnage: Palmer was up there with Tom Brady in most fantasy leagues.

Detroit 28 San Diego 33

This game got good in the second half, but had plenty of scoring in the first for one team at least.

Detroit jumped out to an early 21-3 lead as rookie running back Ameer Abdullah shined with a touchdown and 50 yards rushing to go with 44 receiving yards.

The Lions had no answer for Rivers in the second half and he ended up with 404 yards passing.

Eye popping stat of the game: Lions led 21-3 early.

Turning point: Better pass protection for Rivers in the second half.

fantasy football nfl week 1 carnage images 2015

Fantasy league carnage: Keenan Allen and little Danny Woodhead inked serious fantasy points on Sunday.

Tennessee 42 Tampa Bay 1

This was a tale of two rookie QBs. One and two overall draft picks. Number two, Mariota had a terrific NFL debut while Winston would like to forget his.

Jameis Winston threw a pick six on his first pro pass. Mariota threw a TD on his first series. The game got worse for the Bucs’ young QB who was a dismal 16 of 33 and threw another pick. He also fumbled twice, but recovered both.

Mariota went on to throw four touchdowns in the first half alone. His outstanding game may say more about the Bucs defense than Mariota’s skill as a pro at this point. He threw four TDs on just 13 completions. That’s not going to happen the rest of this year for him I’m certain.

Eye popping stat of the game: Winston’s 6.7 QBR.

Fantasy league carnage: Mariota’s debut helped those brave enough to draft the former Duck.

Cincinnati 33 Oakland 13

Cincy whipped Oakland up and down the field. The Raiders lost Derek Carr to a hand injury and there was no coming back from that.

Eye popping stat of the game: 246 total yards for Oakland.

Fantasy league carnage: Bengals’ Tyler Eifert came from nowhere to be at the top of the TE stats.

Baltimore 13 Denver 19

Peyton Manning needed his defense in this one to get a win. He was sacked four times and failed to get his crew over the goal line.

Lucky for Denver, Aqib Talib pick sixed Joe Flacco to generate enough scoring to close out the Ravens.

Eye popping stat of the game: One pick six for both teams or this would have been a super low scoring affair.

NY Giants 26 Dallas 27

Romo to Witten is a combination that has been reliable for what seems like decades. The QB / TE duo hooked up for a last minute score to shock New York, who had the game in hand very late.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin took the blame for poor game management at the end which allowed the Cowboys to even get a shot at a last drive. “The decision to throw the ball on third down was not a good decision,” he said. “It should have been a run, whether we scored or not.” To blame also was on Eli Manning who threw the ball away instead of taking a sack on that play.

Dallas comes away with an emotional win, but that emotion will be flipped the next few weeks while Dez Bryant recovers from a broken foot. He was hurt in the first half and will miss up to six weeks.

Eye popping stat of the game: Romo 36/45 and 356 yards in the win.

Turning point: Eli stopping the clock with the throw away on his last drive.

Fantasy league carnage: Romo did enough good things to offset his two picks in the world of fantasy football. He was in the top six in most league types.

Tablet Wars 2: Microsoft Strikes Back

0

tablet wars microsoft striking back 2015 techFollowing Microsoft’s Lead

It’s Microsoft’s turn to lead the pack again. If you would remember back when Microsoft introduced Windows 8, they also introduced a new PC form factor in the form of the Surface Pro and the Surface RT. Tablets that can run traditional Windows software and even an all-new ARM-based operating system. Windows 8 was the operating system that would bring together the world of touch-centric consumerism and traditional desktop business worlds in one package. In order to show the world it can be done and how it should be done, Microsoft entered the hardware business and came up with the Surface tablets, Surface RT and Surface Pro.

Everyone wondered why Microsoft decided to abruptly enter the hardware business in danger of alienating its already edgy OEM partners. Basically, Microsoft didn’t want another Vista fiasco. Microsoft released a nagging resource hog which was then released by OEMs in underpowered computers. But this time, Windows 8 was resource friendly, able to run on old PCs that could smoothly handle Windows XP. Also, Microsoft wanted to make sure that Windows 8 was used properly. That their dream of bringing together business and consumerism was possible. It was a tough battle with Androids and Apples. Sadly, though it was a genuine attempt at a new platform, the Windows RT operating system and Surface RT tablets didn’t make it. Windows 8.1 on later versions of the Surface Pro are going strong and appreciation for the Surface form factor just improved with Windows 10 (though some 8.1 users, including this one may argue).

Microsoft can always afford to stop hardware production, after all, it’s first and foremost a software company. But their main goal is to expand or maintain the Windows platform. To do that, they had to teach everyone how to use Windows 8 and above by releasing hardware of their own, the Surface. Fortunately, OEM’s had no real choice but to follow and use Windows 8 in new PCs. They came up with their own hybrid form factors so that their Windows-based PC lines would continue to sell. Major brands such as ASUS, Acer, Lenovo, Toshiba, HP and Dell now have their own hybrids with various levels of acceptance. And with Microsoft’s own Surface line getting good reviews, they’re not going to stop now. Windows 8 and its successors are after all, better off used as they were designed, with touch. Users without touch units, and that’s a lot of them, have a valid point maligning Windows 8 and 8.1. Windows 10 struck up a compromise and is making inroads on whatever form factor. Ultimately, for the enterprise, Microsoft’s teach by example approach paid off.

Paid off better than expected because some vendors have followed their example to a tee, while others, not as much. The world seems to have gone back to the days of beige boxes where all computers look the same. Lenovo’s Miix 700 can easily be mistaken for a Surface Pro 3 tablet right down to having a kickstand and touch keyboard cover. Lawsuits aren’t flying around which either means that the China-based company wouldn’t be bothered with a lawsuit or that Microsoft has done its job and taught everyone else. Microsoft could be patting Lenovo’s back as we speak. Another example of flattery to Microsoft is the upcoming Dell XPS 12 which also looks like the Surface Pro and is rumored for release soon after the Surface Pro 4. Last January, some ex-Google engineers also came up with a Surface clone that also comes with a kickstand and magnetic keyboard except that it runs the Metro-like Android-based Remix OS. Apparently Microsoft’s general idea was correct. ASUS’ Transformer and Acer’s Switch lines have the same idea and have some good reviews. Apple, has also adopted the idea of a tablet within the enterprise by coming up with the iPad Pro, an iPad with a large screen, a companion keyboard and a stylus (Apple Pencil). However, Apple’s adherence to the iOS platform severely hinders the device unless Apple’s idea of enterprise are art studios. But Microsoft still stuck its head out for them when it demonstrated MS Office for the iPad Pro.

Microsoft has achieved its goal. It remains a leader in the enterprise and is once again shaping the market. As mentioned, Microsoft can pull out of the tablet race anytime as long as it continues to sell Windows 8.1, Windows 10, its touch-enabled apps and Microsoft Office through its idea of the correct hybrid form factor, the Surface Pro. But pulling out doesn’t seem likely as they’re introducing new products this October as well as making resellers out of HP and Dell. And, with the Surface Pro and its clones gradually gaining popularity in the enterprise, and soon to Windows-familiar consumers, it appears that Microsoft has finally struck back against the Apple and Google-led consumer rebellion.

Taylor Lewan Not Excited About Marcus Mariota Hype: Tennessee Titans

0

taylor lewan marcus mariota tennessee titans nfl 2015After a historically great performance by rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota in Sunday’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Tennessee Titans are actually starting to get a lot of serious attention for a team that hasn’t seen postseason football in seven years now. Not everyone seems to be as excited as their fan base, however:

“Don’t start that. Please, dear God, no buzz,” said Titans’ tackle Taylor Lewan. “We’re still the Tennessee Titans and people still think we’re an Arena League team. Let us be and let us try to win games.”

I guess Lewan isn’t used to winning. You don’t hear Rob Gronkowski complaining when they show his highlights over and over again on ESPN.

There were definitely a lot of highlights to show from the Titans’ 42-14 rout of the Bucs and Jameis Winston. Mariota made his first career start and played about as perfect as a QB can play in general finishing 13 of 16 for 209 yards, four touchdowns, and a perfect passer rating of 158.3. So much for all those fears of how Mariota would perform in a pro-style offense coming out of Oregon.

But at the same time, Lewan’s comments makes sense. The last thing he wants is for the Titans to get ahead of themselves having already won half as many games as they did all last season.

“The worst thing is [the media is] all of a sudden showing our highlights,” said Lewan. “Look at any NFL commercial and tell me how many times you see the Tennessee Titans—of us being the highlight. You know? People don’t like us. That’s fine. We’ll keep our heads down and work.”

Lewan does make some valid points. And as Washington Redskins fans know all too well from Robert Griffin III, just because your second overall pick has a fantastic rookie debut, it doesn’t necessarily make him the next Peyton Manning.

And let’s not forget, they were playing the team who had the first overall pick from this past season.

The Titans travel to Cleveland this weekend, so Mariota’s first real test will come Week Three when the Indianapolis Colts come to town. If Mariota can keep up with Luck, then maybe it’s time to get unreasonably excited about the rookie.

Kim Davis Only Highlights Our Broken System Of Ethics: For the Record

kim davis highlights our broken system of ethics images 2015 mike huckabeeThere has been a lot of talk about Kim Davis, a Kentucky county clerk, and the stance she took and continues to take against gay marriage. Citing her religion as the reason for her defying the historical Supreme Court ruling that gives gay couples the right to marry nationwide, she has become a kind of hero to the radical, republican right wing conservatives who always seem to rear their heads in situations that both give them a leverage to spew their ideology and to showcase their broken system of ethics.

And that’s what all of this is really about, a broken system of ethics. It’s a system that says things are bad and not okay to do when this happens but totally acceptable in other instances. And no group of people practice situational ethics (SE) better than the republicans.

I am going to put myself out there with this one- I voted republican… a few times before in my life. In fact, I think I might even be registered as a republican. That choice was the result of a young 18-year-old girl living under the hand of a man and religious organization that boasts itself in having “the truth,” but who’s actions proved inconsistent with their claims. It is the same religious organization that Kim Davis is a part of. In fact, I bet that she and I have been in each other’s presence at some point in time because the church I belonged to is a part of the same district in which she lives.

Because of my past affiliation with the same train of thought as Davis and the likes of Mike Huckabee, it makes it all the more disgusting to me the way that they tout their religiosity and “authority of God” all the while behaving in ways that are far from Christ-like. I have written about it before and I will write about it again, the support being shown to Davis for going against the supreme law of the land is a perfect case of situational ethics.

What is SE? It is judging the actions of a situation from “ethics” instead of from an absolute moral standard or “categorical principles.” So the context of a situation is what’s important when judging not actual guidelines that apply across the board. That’s why republicans and zealots like Davis and Hukabee can condemn a group of people who have been granted the write to partake in the institute of marriage and brake the law but expect support and love when faced with the consequences of their actions.

kim davis broken system ethics 2016This is all a part of a bigger force at play here and the underlying root of people like her and their actions is actually quite dangerous. It’s dangerous not because of the nature of the thing that they deem reprehensible, but because they are behaving in the exact same way in which other countries behave- allowing their religion to be the guiding force in their destructive, loveless actions.

Notice here that I say religion for I am not talking about spirituality. Believe it or not, I do think that you can be spiritual within the aspect of organized religion. It is when the blind adherence of religious standards, practices and schools of thought replace the presence of a truly spiritual experience that you get people that only show compassion in situations that they approve of and to people that are like them.

And that is my biggest gripe and utter exhaustion with Davis and her followers. There is a lack of spiritualty in her actions thus her religious bigotry is the upmost display of hypocrisy.

What does her actions really mean for America? She and others like her believe that we are going to hell in a hand basket and they are the select few to stop it from happening so quickly. But all of this is way deeper than some delusional self-centered assertion of heroism. What it means for our country when people like this “win” is that the fabric of our constitutional rights and protection are slowly torn away. It means we get a glimpse into what it really looks like to have a president like Huckabee if he were to win the republican nomination. It means that these people become the face not just of Apostolic Pentecostal Christians but of all Christians.

The danger and affects of situational ethics on a large scale are debilitating. I don’t mean to be cynical, but I have lived that life before. A life that picks at others who don’t do as I do, who don’t understand as I understand and believing that setting myself apart from them is the best thing to do. That mindset breeds superiority complexes and a gross interpretation of what it truly means to be loving and kind and spiritual.

This is greater than some Kentucky clerk denying gay marriage licenses. The real attack is not on her or her ideals at all, but is indeed on our overall way life.

WOT the… Web of Trust or Web of Lies?

0

wot web of trust or lies tech 2015The Dangerous Internet

The internet can be a dangerous place. The only websites that are safe to visit are mainly those owned by the biggest companies like Microsoft, Amazon, eBay, Apple and Yahoo. Users have to be really careful navigating the web unprotected. One wrong click and your browser gets hijacked, your PC becomes a slave to some hacker, your screen gets bombarded with popup after popup, your files and data get encrypted and put up for ransom and at worse, your system gets bricked. One way to stay secure is to get the right tools such as Kaspersky Internet Security and Norton Internet Security. But if you can’t afford subscribing yearly to these software, there are free alternatives or you need to visit only websites you can trust. Doing so would be very limiting or you could rely on others to trust sites on the web for you.

The Web of Trust

Aside from spam sites and malware hosts, the web is rife with questionable material, either false or malicious, therefore untrustworthy and users, especially children need to be protected from those too. There’s a tool and service available that can protect users from both technically malicious and entropic websites known as the Web of Trust (also known as WOT or MyWOT). The Web of Trust is a browser add-in that informs users of the trustworthiness of the websites they’re about to visit by including icons or markers in search results indicating the level of trust for reviewed websites. It also advises and warns users of a website’s potential danger before proceeding. WOT is basically a free website rating service where members rate websites they visit whether or not it’s trustworthy. Through the browser add-in, even non-members can pitch in and rate every website they enter. Users can rate a website whether it’s favorable or untrustworthy and the collective ratings will reflect on search results or direct entry.

WOT began in 2007 and is founded by Finnish entrepreneurs Sami Tolvanen and Timo Ala-Kleemola. The premise is nice overall, by letting web users as a community help each other in filtering out the good websites from the bad. It’s like a circle of trust among web users, at least for the millions who use the plugin. It helps users stay away from ad ridden sites with no real information, phishing web sites, fraudulent sites, hoaxes, Ponzi schemes and the like. WOT users can also see if websites aren’t kid friendly in order to keep children from accessing harmful content. It’s a free alternative to expensive internet solutions with over 100 million downloads as of 2013 and has even partnered with other security companies such as Phishtank, Panda Security, TRUSTe and GlobalSign. WOT is also partnered with Facebook. WOT is a great concept where everything is dandy if done properly.

meet the prents ben stillerWhen Those Who Give Trust Can’t Be Trusted

But now, WOT is besieged with accusations of corrupt practices, false claims and technical incompetence. For casual users unaware of these problems, the service simply works. They’re warned and they stay away. The site is green, then it’s good to go. For example as shown below, a site may offer free screensavers but actually wants you to sign in first with your credit card info, thus it gets an untrustworthy mark at least for false advertising. But WOT can sometimes miss its mark and users might scratch their heads when at times, good websites, including sites they’ve been to, get red marks.

web of trust safe marker on google 2015But mismarks is just one of the many problems that WOT is accused of. A false trust rating can be due to simple user mistakes or malicious mischief. Any user can purposely post a bad review to a valid website and WOT apparently has no real mechanism to verify valid and non-valid reviews. WOT simply computes the collective marks of users into an average trust rating but also gets data from its partners. It’s like Facebook where the Like button is a vague concept where users can ‘like’ or even share a post with questionable content. Users can dislike or mark a site as untrustworthy despite its contents if it conflicts with the user’s personal point of view, religion, political or simply on a whim. As humans are not infallible, even WOT’s admins are accused of mismarking any website they disagree with and further decline a website’s reputation if the website’s owner gets to a WOT admin’s bad side. A simple example would be a website on chameleons. A site visitor with WOT installed or even a WOT admin can stumble upon the website and view the creatures as disgusting and on a whim can mark the site as not trustworthy. Adult users can enter their favorite adult site as a guilty pleasure but forget to mark it as not child friendly so as to conveniently enter it without a popup warning. Plus, WOT is apparently not accountable for the ratings posted by its users but can correct mistakes with limited capacity.

WOT admins are also accused of being difficult to work contact and also difficult to reason with when it comes to ratings corrections though some admins are genuinely helpful and may even suggest corrections to improve a website’s trust ratings. WOT also allegedly goes as far as to ‘sell’ positive ratings to website owners with a dispute. And because WOT doesn’t have real way to scan trust reviews versus website contents, WOT’s open system is apparently open season to micro-taskers who sell their services to give a website positive ratings. In WOT, an individual can have multiple accounts so if a website has ten positive ratings, those ratings are possibly from just one individual, not to mention the ratings the individual can post as a non-member through the WOT plugin.

It’s Still Up to You

Accusations such as those mentioned give the WOT service some questionable value though the service remains popular as it is infamous since MyWOT results in Google show both positive and negative results. As mentioned, the service works but not at 100% capacity as possibly millions of sites remain unrated or falsely rated. Still the scope of these false reviews remain unclear and it would be up to the would-be user to use WOT or not. If not, free alternatives to WOT include AVG Secure Search, Trafficlight Bitdefender and Trustpilot.

Since we had gotten so many e-mails asking us to look into WOT, tell us your experience with them.

DeMarco Murray, Darren Sproles & Ryan Matthews Come Out Equal in Eagles Loss to Falcons

0

demarco murray darren sproles eagles come out equal with falcons 2015 nflIn a bit of a shocker and a great start to Monday Night Football, the Atlanta Falcons bested the 26-24.

Despite all the hype around his going against one of the NFL’s bottom pass defenses, Sam Bradford ended up with two costly interceptions in the close game despite a pretty good stat line. Matt Ryan finished with two interceptions as well, but made up for it with two big touchdowns to Julio Jones.

For the Eagles, it was the running back play (and Jordan Matthews’ 102 receiving yards) which really kept the contest close. I say running back play instead of ground game, because there wasn’t much of that. In fact, the Eagles ran the ball only 16 times compared to their 52 pass attempts.

16 attempts is nothing, especially for last year’s leading rusher DeMarco Murray; and he only ended up with eight of those 16 after sharing five with Darren Sproles and the other three with Ryan Matthews.

Murray may have had the most attempts, but his stats don’t reflect that. Murray finished the game with only nine yards from scrimmage and a long of eight. In other words, Murray had one carry for eight yards and then seven other carries for a total of one yard. Sproles really had to carry the backfield with 50 yards over his five touches.

Sproles was also a big part of the air game, finishing with 76 receiving yards on seven receptions behind only Jordan Matthews. Ryan Matthews chimed in with an additional 24 yards through the air, and Murray added only 11, but caught Bradford’s only passing TD of the night.

For those of you who thought that Murray would be the work horse of this offseason, I may have some bad news. Obviously the Eagles need to make some adjustments—and Kelly certainly will—but if tonight was any indicator, the trio of running backs will be getting a relatively equal amount of work moving forward. In fact, after completely outshining Murray, Sproles may emerge as the Eagles go-to moving forward.

A glimpse of hope for Murray’s fantasy owners: despite his poor yardage, Murray did finish with a touchdown through the air and one on the ground.

Maybe there’s hope after all for that early selection.

NFL Winners & Losers Week 1

0

nfl winners losers week 1 tyler lockett 2015What a start to the 2015 NFL season! We hype the NFL up to be this Holy Grail of sports all offseason, then it actually delivers when the season begins. Sunday and Monday nights’s action was worth the long deflating offseason.

Week one did have some major injuries that will fill up some of the loser slots. That is the shame about football, too many injuries. The Ravens lost Terrell Suggs for the year and the Jets may be without Antonio Cromartie long term depending on his MRI on Monday. DeSean Jackson, Derek Carr, and Luke Kuechly also went out with injuries in their contests.

In the winners slots we have a clock turner backer that helped the Pack, a rookie who may be the greatest QB in history if you listen to ESPN today, and another flashy rookie from Seattle that should help them get points on the board all season long in one form or another.

Let’s get to week one’s winners and losers. We still have two games set for MNF so I’ll add any deserving players on my Atlanta Falcons breakdown on Tuesday along with a recap of San Francisco v. Minnesota.

NFL Grown Man of the Week: Hard choice between two grown men at the tight end position. Gronkowski had a monster game, but I have to give it to Travis Kelce. Gronk had one more TD than Kelce, but the Chiefs’ tight end was up against the Texans defense. Kelce is going to get considerable amounts of press this year as he will put up similar numbers weekly

NFL Child of the Week: Could have went with Goodell for not going to the opening game in Foxboro, but why dwell on the commish any longer than necessary. Could have went with Jim Harbaugh for his sideline meltdown, but he was fired from the NFL so can’t use him. I’ll go with Jameis Winston who looked like a high school QB on Sunday versus Tennessee. His debut was made worse by Mariota looking like a vet on day one (don’t get used to that on a weekly basis though Titans fan).

Winner: James Freaking Jones was unwanted by the rest of the NFL, but looked like an All Pro with Aaron Rodgers slinging it to him. If you didn’t pick up Jones for your fantasy team after his second score then you’re an imbecile. Join the club!

Loser: Johnny Manziel was pressed into service when McCown went down versus the Jets. Manziel started out fine, but somehow ended up with three turnovers. One fumble happened after an impressive run. Great to make plays with your legs J. Football, but holding onto the ball is vital.

Winner: Marcus Mariota went off in the first half, tossing four touchdowns. ESPN will now proclaim it the greatest debut in the history of sports, including horseshoes.

Loser: Pete Carroll. He needs a yard and makes the right call this time….to give the ball to Lynch. It matters not as his Seahawks fail to convert on a fourth down in overtime giving the Rams the win in the best game all Sunday.

Winner: Tyler Lockett. Seattle’s flashy rookie started out the regular season just like the preseason. He scored on a long punt return and is sure to get more attention next week from special teams coaches. This kid is special and is a nice replacement for Percy Harvin from a couple years ago. Hopefully Lockett doesn’t turn out to be insane too.

Loser: Jameis Winston’s first NFL pass was a pick six. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

Winner: Keenan Allen and anyone that had him in the fantasy world. The third year man for San Diego had 15 catches in their game versus Detroit.

Loser: Tom Coughlin. His play calling at the end of the Dallas game gave the Cowboys life. The coach owned it after the game to his credit. Eli also copped to his mistake, saying he should have just taken a sack instead of throwing an incompletion that stopped the clock.

Winner: Alex Smith with three TDs in a big win over the Texans. Who would have thought Smith and KC would roll right over Houston’s vaunted defense? That’s what happened most of the game as they opened up a 27-9 lead.

Loser: Brian Hoyer. He barely got the starting gig in Houston over Ryan Mallett then wet the bed in his opener. Hoyer was replaced by Mallett late, who played better and could get the nod next week. Hoyer was pretty hard on himself, “”I feel terrible,” Hoyer said. “I feel like I let this entire organization down. I mean, it just went from bad to worse.”

I’ll have a couple more winners & losers after the Monday night games to add to my Falcons recap.

Winner Tweet: My man, probably not even the game of the day. Let’s settle down and not go ESPN hype mode in week one.

Loser Tweet: Maybe we should set up a relief fund for Vegas books?

Miss America Says Sorry & Kim Davis Still Using God to Hate

Miss America finally apologizes to Vanessa Williams for a scandal that seems so trivial now, Kim Davis continues using God to judge people and Tiny Harris gets into it with Nia Riley.

miss america says sorry to vanessa williams 2015 gossipMiss America pageant apologizes to Vanessa Williams

It has been 32 years since Vanessa Williams became the first black woman to win the Miss America title. Her historic turn as the head beauty queen was cut short thanks to a nude photo (taken way before she competed for the title) that was published by Penthouse magazine, which ultimately lead to her resigning from her post.

Last night, after decades of living with the scandal, Williams received a long awaited apology from the Miss America organization during this year’s television competition.

“You have lived your life in grace and dignity, and never was it more evident than during the events of 1984 when you resigned…Though none of us currently in the organization were involved then, on behalf of today’s organization, I want to apologize to you and to your mother, Miss Helen Williams… for anything that was said or done that made you feel any less than the Miss America you are and the Miss America you always will be.”

This is a really big moment not just for Williams but for the organization itself. There is no doubt that the events that lead to her resigning had a lot to do with the fact that she was the first black woman to win and the powers at be (I mean this was 1983) clearly found whatever they could to ruin that.

Despite the craziness, she has done damn well for herself as an accomplished singer and actress among a host of other things.

kim davis back still hates gays 2015 gossipKim Davis is Back… Still Refuses to Give Gay Marriage Licenses

I can’t with this woman. Being hailed a hero by the conservative right, she, to me, is a walking contradiction.  She was jailed, bailed out of jail by Mike Huckabee and his minions and is now back at work doing the same damn thing she was doing before, defying the law.

Yes, she proclaims “I’m no hero” but that does not mean she doesn’t take all the attention and other forms of appreciation she receives. With her return back to work, (which I don’t even understand how or why she still has the job she has) she tries to explain the predicament with which she is faced, calling it a “seemingly impossible choice … my conscience or my freedom.”

While she was gone and even as she has returned to her office, her deputies did in fact issue marriage licenses without her authority. She however wants all those licenses to clearly say that they are being issued under federal authority. You have got to be kidding me.

Here’s my gripe with this woman. I’m going to let you in on a little secret about Davis that shows how hypocritical she and her followers are. She is a part of a religious institution that believes women should not wear pants at all because of certain scriptures that they interpret as saying so. But if she was a cashier at a department store and she had to ring up a woman who was purchasing pants, I bet she would not deny them that purchase even though it goes against one of her core beliefs… but I digress.

This whole thing is so outrageous and for me, the most disgusting part of it all is that Davis really, truly believes that she has the God given right to act in accordance with her beliefs on this matter.

tiny harris nia riley fight 2015 gossipTiny Harris Comes for Nia Riley and her Messy Threesome Rumors

Why, why, why grown women? Why do you keep setting these horrible examples of female being trifling? Tiny Harris, who is married to rapper T.I, checked Love and Hip Hop…star…Nia Riley for rumors she started on Instagram.

While airing out Nas, her ex bestie who claims to be sleeping with Nia’s boo Soulja boy, she brought the singer and her husband into the mix.

Let’s talk about how you fucked Bow Twist, Wayne, TI AND HIS WIFE! Bitch how dare you?!”

Now Nia let’s Nas really have it and went down a list of all the people she claims to have slept with, but did she really have to bring in T.I and Tiny? Well, it doesn’t matter now because Tiny is not having it.

“I’m jus getting wind of the shit said about me & my husband. At the end of the day u ain’t got no business throwing me & my ppl & anyone else for that matter in your messy ass relationship… we don’t even know this girl u speaking on. Keep my name out of your mouth period!!!!! & that’s as nice as I can put it.”

Hmmm, that was pretty nice. Nia, who is messy as hell over some lame ass dude, hasn’t responded yet.

LOVE & HIP HOP HOLLYWOOD 202: Boot Camp Woes

love hip hop hollywood 202 recap images 2015“Love and Hip Hop Hollywood” is really heating up and it’s on the second episode.

It opens up with Soulja boy and his chick Nia Riley chilling as they head to one of his practices. Fizz drops in on him and they catch up. Soulja Boy tells Fizz that he got this figured out and that Nia is his main chick. When he’s on the road, he’s on the road and that’s why he’s going to ride with her. Okay, if that works for you.

Then there is Rich Dollaz and according to him, he is really falling for Monice. They have a nice dinner in his hotel room and she tells him that since things are going so well, she wants him to meet her family and her child which is something he feels should come in time.  Um hold up Rich, you’ve been talking like this chick is the one, why not meet her fam? Then she drops it on him and tells him that since she doesn’t want to have any more kids, he should have a vasectomy. He nearly choke on his saliva.

At the pool later on, Rich Dollas tells her that he loves her and wants to be there but he wants her to get rid of a tattoo that she got of her first love when she was 18.  They go back and forth a bit then she gives in and says she’ll get rid of it. Then she tells him that she wants him to stay forever, with her, in L.A. to which he says, “not yet ma.”

Nikki and Teairra Marie meet with the girl Nas because she has some connections that can help them with their fashion show. She tells them that she has been on and off with Soulja Boy which makes Nikki uncomfortable because Nia (remember Soulja’s main chick) is her girl. She says that they have been having sex and texting just as recent as two weeks before. This is all an interesting development especially for Nikki. Nas tells them that despite her personal life issues, she can deliver the models and she invites them to attend one of her boot camps.

love hip hop hollywood recap images 2015Of course while shopping with Nia later, Nikki tells her what happened at their luncheon meeting with Nas. Nia is taken aback and tells her that they used to be friends but when Nia and Soulja broke up for a short time, Nas slid right in. Nikki then goes ahead and invites her to the boot camp because Nia “wants to see what she has to say” to her face.

Milan and Miles spends time at a strip club because to him that’s the only place they can chill you know since they are rappers… and gay. Milan still deals with fact that Miles doesn’t want to come out to the world and really take the next step to move in with him. Miles feels that they are still getting comfortable with each other, to which Milan says he has been comfortable.

Their relationship is further complicated because of Miles relationship with Amber and her daughter. He ditches his date with his male boo thang to meet up with the two and Milan has no idea what’s going on.

Teairra Mari, Monice and Amber chat it up at one of her photo shoots in which Amber is modeling. TM tells her about her meeting with Princess and Monice is not feeling it as she thinks Princess has something up her sleeve. “Cry me a river bitch.” TM tries to look at the situation positively but her girls are like, “something about this whole situation rubs me the wrong way.” TM says that she is keeping her enemies closer.

To put her plan in motion, TM and Princess meet at a bar for drinks and let me tell you, Teairra M is kind of trifling. She encourages her to be her own woman and don’t care what Ray J has to say. She also says in her confession that if Princess gives her something to exploit in their budding new friendship, she will do just that.

Princes proceeds to go out with Teairra Mari and Ray J is right there asking her what’s going on. She stays coy and even with him saying he was wrong for having the stripper party, she decides to go out anyway. Especially when he tells her that she can’t go out and that she needs to change because she doesn’t have on a bra. Oh Ray J. Princess did kind of mess up though when she tells him that TM was right about him.

Ray J, of course calls on Teairra Mari the next day to get to the bottom of everything. She thinks he wants to apologize for the shit he put her through last year but all he wants to know is what is going on with Princess which makes her further offended. We find out from all of this that her plan is to break them up, because according to Teairra Mari, Princess doesn’t look happy and neither does Ray.

In the end, it goes all the way down at the boot camp between Nas and Nia. Nas takes a break from teaching telling Nia, “We need to talk.” Nas actually kind of checks Nia here too because all Teddy Riley’s daughter can say is going to punch her in the face, to which Nas tells her to stop that shit and deal with this like a woman. They yell, they get in each other’s faces and have to be carried away to their own corners.

Like I said, it is heating up on Love and Hip Hop Hollywood.
