MAGIC MIKE XXL Poster Shows Channing Tatum Is Coming

It’s been nearly three years since Steven Soderbergh and Channing Tatum lap danced their way into theaters with “Magic Mike”, and now the highly anticipated sequel, “Magic Mike XXL” is just about to come…at least that’s what the first official poster states.

Channing Tatum is back with his hunky crew for a first look poster of “Magic Mike XXL” People Magazine reported today. This is the sequel to that hit male strip club drama which ponied it’s way into our hearts three years ago.

Steven Soderbergh directed the original “Magic Mike” and turned what could have just been a collage of oil slicked men into a rather thoughtful look at the American Dream through the eyes of a young entrepreneur. Of course, there was plenty of beefcake too, but Soderbergh made it okay for men to go to the theater to see the film. The sizeable box office tickets proved it wasn’t just another chick flick with heart.

There’s not been a lot of talk about Gregory Jacobs take on the sequel. All we know is that it’s a road-trip taking place three years after the original film. The first look poster with the words ‘coming’ scrawled over Tatum’s crotch will leave some assuming it’s going to be more in the league of “Showgirls”, but we’ll hold our judgement more until the trailer comes out later today. Many were sure Soderbergh had lost his way when word came out that he was directing the original “Magic Mike”, and he turned into a well received film that both critics and audiences loved.

Matthew McConaughey’s seedy Dallas is out this time around, but the original Xquisite dancers are back including Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez and Gabriel Iglesias. Newcomers will include Jada Pinkett Smith, Amber Heard, Michael Strahan and Elizabeth Banks.

Director Jacobs was able to reveal this much about the film to People.

“It’s dramatic and emotional but not as dark [as the first film],” Jacobs says. “It’s such a great group of people. We had a blast making it. I hope that comes across on screen.”

“Magic Mike XXL” will hit theaters July 1, and we’ll have the trailer up when it premieres today. Meanwhile, here’s the synopsis for the film.

Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, “Magic Mike XXL” finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways.
