Women’s soccer hardly gets the attention it is worthy of. The major European leagues concluded last month and if you’re looking forward to some good soccer this month, you can certainly switch on to the Copa America and FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 in Canada. The Women’s World Cup has already advanced to the round of 16 and it has been thrilling event so far.
China, Germany, France, Australia and the hosts Canada have already cemented their place in the quarter finals of the tournament. Netherlands, USA and England are the favourites to join them. The reigning World champions, Japan, face Holland in these first knockout stages. On July 5th one team will lift the gold in Canada and it surely will be an intense contest in this road to the final.
Here are a few reasons which may compel you to tune in to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015.
You won’t have to compromise on quality
It is a myth that women’s soccer lacks skills and beautiful goals. Some goals scored in the group stages of the tournament have been simply amazing. The footwork of some of the players is just incredible and highly entertaining. The teams are tactically strong and the thrill in these closely matched games can put one on the edge of his seat.
No lack of aggression
The women’s game play is as competitive as men’s soccer. It is the grandest stage in world football for the ladies and they are certainly putting in everything they’ve got to lay their hands on the golden trophy. The stadiums are jam packed and recently in a match against Switzerland, Canada’s women team set a new Canadian attendance record for an international soccer match with 53,588 spectators.
3. Underdogs can cause upsets
No one really dislikes a good underdog story. Well, there can be a few upsets as we build up to that grand finale. Many of the underdogs have a good chance of reaching the final on July 5th. Australia stunned Brazil on June 21st to advance to the last eight. Not many heavyweights except Brazil have been knocked out so far but the competition is getting fiercer by the day as we’re nearing the end.
First ever FIFA World Cup on artificial turf
For the first time in the history of the tournament, we’re witnessing a change in the surface of the football pitch. Despite many complaints from female coaches and players, the World Cup is being held on an artificial surface. How this experiment affects the game/players will be a superficial factor worth watching out for.
No quality club competitions
Most of the European clubs are trying to strengthen themselves in order to prepare for the next campaign. The players are switching clubs within and even outside their respective leagues. In July, most of the teams will be engaging in pre-season friendlies. The European giants are actively participating in the summer transfer window for next year’s Champions League and domestic competitions.
