This year, it seemed like Black Friday started back in October thanks to Amazon, so many people may be wondering when exactly does Cyber Monday start. We keep hearing about all these specials kicking off on Sunday, and then Amazon is keeping Cyber Monday going through December 10, 2015, so here’s a little help on when everything does kick in.
Keeping checking our Cyber Monday section as we’ll continually update it along with Cyber Monday for your shopping convenience. You can also check out Amazon’s Black Cyber Monday deals here as they’ll keep changing as fast as a Kardashian’s Instagram page.
Every year, a group of online retailers put a variety of different items on sale hoping to make sure they bring in a profit. The good news for you is that you can reap the benefits of this sale by getting the items that you want for the holidays at a steep discount.
You’ll find everything from clothes to jewelry to expensive electronic items on sale. But you want to make sure you start the shopping early to take advantage of any perks like first come, first serve, free shipping or bonus material.
If you’re wondering when Cyber Monday is this year, it falls on November 30, which is the perfect time to get your holiday shopping done. The way that you can get the most out of the day is by having your list of items ready along with all the sites that you want to order from.
Make a list of what you want most and get those items first in case there’s a customer limit or if it’s something that tends to go out of stock in a hurry. A good indication of what kind of deals you’re going to be able to get can be found in what the online retailer offered the year before.
So this Cyber Monday, you can be sure that you’re going to find great deals on video games for a variety of different consoles. You’re going to find bargains on some of the most popular video games as well as some new releases and pre-releases because last year, there were games that were offered for discounts of as much as half off.
Call of Duty, Tomb Raider and The Walking Dead were some of the best-seller video games that consumers could find on sale. Those were for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and you could get them for about $20. You can expect more of the same this year.
Cyber Monday sales also offered games like Just Dance and Dead Rising 3 for the same consoles. If you were looking for EA games, those were bargain buys at around $30 each.
You could get Madden NFL 15, NBA 2K15 and more. You want to pay attention to the bundles that are offered with the consoles though. Sometimes you can find the games that you want bundled with a Kinect bundle because bundles are offered every Cyber Monday.
If you plan to buy a console anyway, then look to see if the bundle offers the game that you want and you’ll end up saving even more money. What you can find on Cyber Monday on November 30th with perks, especially with video games or video consoles, are free subscription services or free trials of other games to see if you like those.
Below is a little history and safety tips on Cyber Monday along with how to find the best deals.
“Cyber Monday” is a term that was coined in 2005 by Ellen Davis, the Senior Vice President of the National Retail Federation. It’s a day of e-commerce deals and promotions that takes place on the Monday following Thanksgiving. In a way it’s the digital version of “Black Friday”, minus the overwhelming lines and mob mentality. From the comfort of your own home you can shop from hundreds of websites offering great deals to get you started on your Christmas list shopping. Data from the Adobe Digital Index shows that sales on Cyber Monday 2014 reached an incredible $2.68 billion, further cementing its place as one of the most popular days for Christmas shopping.
How to find the best Cyber Monday deals?
1) Make sure you’re following the brands you love on social media. Days in advance many companies will start releasing information about their deals on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to build hype around their products.
2) Search hashtags on social media. Hashtags on twiter such as #CyberMonday and #CyberMonday2015 will be full of people proudly sharing information about the great deals they just received.
3) Download a coupon app. Apps like RetailMeNot are excellent for quickly and conveniently browsing hundreds of the top trending deals offered by popular brands like Macy’s, Kohl’s, Target, Amazon, Bed Bath and Beyond, Famous Footwear, and many more.
4) Visit a website dedicated to Cyber Monday. CyberMonday.com is owned by the National Retail Federation and is dedicated to saving you time and money while you shop on cyber Monday.
Cyber Monday Safety Tips
Given the growing popularity and amount of money being spent by consumers on Cyber Monday, it has become a notoriously popular day for hackers. Shoppers are eager to get the best deals and will often click on anything advertising savings. Because of the extreme increase in cyber-crime attempts around Cyber Monday, it’s very important to pay attention and keep yourself safe.
A report by FireEye, a cyber security company, estimated that phishing emails (a fraud method in which the perpetrator sends out legitimate-looking email in an attempt to gather personal and financial information from recipients) increases by an average of 336% on cyber monday. These clever attacks involve sending you emails that look very similar to that of real retailers (e.g. Home Depot), but when you click on the email you are redirected to a fake website controlled by the hacker (which is seemingly identical to the actual Home Depot website). From there you will be encouraged to enter your email, password, and possibly credit card information.
The Department of Homeland Security recommends “Never click on links in emails” and “Never open the (email) attachments” during the holiday season. Instead go directly to the company’s actual website where you will be able to access their deals and promotions safely.
