UPDATE: Augie found a great new home this weekend just days after we featured him on the site. We’re thankful our readers have helped make this program such a success, and please keep sharing these articles to people you think would want to give these rescue pets great homes. The ones that are still in need of being adopting are here in the Rescue Me section.

To end off the month of February, we have another adorable furry that is looking for his forever home. Once again, we are back with our weekly “Adopt Me” feature. As many of you know, we here at Movie TV Tech Geeks have been teaming up with the reputable North Shore Animal League America to raise awareness for pet adoption. By featuring an adoptable cat or dog every week, we have been able to help find homes for countless animals and shine a light on the many animals that are in need.

Even if you don’t live in the area, you can still contact North Shore Animal League, and they can guide you to the closest no-kill rescue shelter in your area for a similar dog or even arrange travel arrangements. If you have a friend you think would be interested, pass these articles on as we are working even harder this year to get even more pets adopted than last year.

North Shore Animal League America, which is the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization. Since 1944, the organization has strived towards achieving its ultimate vision: “To put an end to animal cruelty and euthanasia and to create a world in which all companion animals find compassionate permanent homes.”

To date, North Shore has helped find homes for over 1,000,000 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. With their main headquarters in Port Washington, New York, North Shore provides crucial resources such as a pet adoption center, a pet health center that offers affordable veterinary care and much more.

Now time to introduce the star of the week…Augie!

This week’s featured pet, Augie, is a 6-year-old Hound/Labrador mix. He has a short, soft fur coat that is light brown/orange and white in colour. Augie has floppy ears, an adorable snout, and striking brown-hazel eyes. Fortunately, Augie was given the opportunity to find the loving family he deserves, as staff at North Shore rescued him from unsuitable living conditions in Florida. Not only is Augie a handsome boy, he is also very smart and well mannered. He knows basic commands, can walk well on a leash and is already house broken (meaning, he knows to do his business outside).

Stemming from his various roots, it is not surprising that Augie is a well-behaved, big-hearted dog. Labs, in particular, are known for being one of the best four-legged companions that us two-legged folks could ask for. In line with Augie’s behaviour, labs are commonly very easy to train. They often show a strong desire to please their owners and will listen to commands if it means they will earn some love and affection (and maybe even a few treats).

Ronald Martorelli, the Shelter Director at North Shore Animal League notes, “Augie has a mellow disposition and loves being around humans. He would enjoy spending time with an active family who would take him on long walks.”

Staff at North Shore suggests that Augie goes to a home with children (if any) who are over the age of 8. While Augie is a mellow pup, he is big in stature, which is why North Shore has made this age recommendation for potential adopters of Augie. In addition, North Shore also asks that anyone looking to bring Augie home with them come to the shelter and meet him beforehand. If there are already any canine companions in your family, you should also bring them down to North Shore’s campus for a meet-and-greet with Augie, prior to welcoming him into your home.

Moreover, Augie is a big dog with an even bigger heart. With his loyalty and sweet demeanor, Augie is ready to form a bond with his forever family that will undoubtedly last a lifetime.

If you are interested in adopting Augie, please e-mail with any questions or inquiries.
