UPDATE: Dixie has already found a wonderful new home, but keep checking at our Rescue Me area for more great pets ready to be adopted.

To round off the month of January, we are so excited to introduce an adorable young pup that is anxiously waiting to find her forever home. As many of our readers know, we feature an adoptable pet – cat or dog – every week. Through our teaming up with North Shore Animal League America, we here at Movie TV Tech Geeks hope to help find homes for deserving pets, as well as raise awareness for pet adoption and shelters.

North Shore Animal League America is the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization. For over 70 years, North Shore has been rescuing animals and advocating their proper care. Since opening in 1944, the organization has saved the lives of over 1,000,000 cats, dogs, kittens and puppies.

Even if you don’t live in the area, you can still contact North Shore Animal League, and they can guide you to the closest no-kill rescue shelter in your area for a similar dog or even arrange travel arrangements. If you have a friend you think would be interested, pass these articles on as we are working even harder this year to get even more pets adopted than we did in 2016!

The shelter is located in Port Washington, New York, where it facilitates animal rescue and adoptions, as well as plays a lead role in the no-kill movement. North Shore Animal League America continues to innovate better and more sustainable ways to care for pets, in order to create a brighter future for animals everywhere.

With their vision, “To put an end to animal cruelty and euthanasia and to create a world in which all companion animals find compassionate permanent homes.” North Shore Animal League America continues to make a positive difference in the lives of countless animals.

Now…for the last adoptable pet feature of January 2017…meet Dixie!

Just one and a half years old, Dixie is a lively Cattle Dog/Shepherd mix. She is a mid-sized dog with a mainly black and brown coat of fur, as well as a bit of white fur around her chest and belly. Dixie was fortunate enough to be rescued by North Shore from a municipal shelter in Tennessee.

Not only is Dixie cute, but she is also a very intelligent young girl. She is already housebroken, which means she knows to do her business outside. In addition, she will also sit when asked to do so by her two-legged friends. Dixie loves treats, as well as playing with toys and bones. Being that she is still fairly young, Dixie is quite energetic. She loves to spend her time playing outside, whether it being running around, playing Frisbee or fetching a tennis ball.

At first, Dixie can be timid. However, it does not take long for her to warm up to new people. Once trust is established, Dixie is a very loyal, warm and loving canine companion.

Rosie Tombolo, the Kennel at North Shore Animal League America notes, “Being a herding mixed breed, Dixie is very active, loyal and attentive.”

The staff at North Shore recommends that Dixie go to a home with a family who has prior experience with dogs. They also suggest that she go to a family with kids (if any) who are over the age of 16.

If you are interested in adopting Dixie, you are invited to come meet her at North Shore’s campus, as she would need to meet her future family members beforehand. In addition, if you already have a four-legged friend, they should also be brought to meet Dixie before she is welcomed into her new home.

Moreover, Dixie has a big heart, an intelligent mind and an infectious spirit. With many joy-filled years ahead of her, Dixie is ready to form a loving bond with her family that will last a lifetime.

If you live in a quiet neighborhood, have a nice big yard and are looking for a running companion, please e-mail Kennel Manager, Rosie Tombolo at RosemarieT@animalleague.org.
