Robert Griffin III Sees Reaction After Criticizing Washington Redskins In Media

rg3 robert griffin iii criticizes washington redskins nfl 2014

Robert Griffin III had a terrific rookie season. Since then he has been of little value to his team in Washington. I realize he has been hurt and that has made his play be up and down….mostly down. But in a vacuum, he has been a disappointment, period. I can imagine he is pretty frustrated with the way his team is playing this year. But coming out after a bad loss to a lowly Tampa Bay team and crushing his teammates is pretty ignorant.

RG3 is a bright guy so he should know how criticizing his crew is going to play out in the media. You simply can’t throw your team under the bus. There are few occasions when it is OK to do so, but very few. It is even worse when the guy doing the complaining is not playing good at all. But if Griffin was going to say something dumb I guess he decided to go all in and compare himself to Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning. I hope he knows where he sits on the tiers of quarterbacks in this league. Rodgers is at the top and I mean the #1 spot. No one is better. Manning is close that spot in the top five and an all time great clearly. RG3 has been off the field as much as he has been on it lately. And when he has played, the team likely wishes he was elsewhere. He has been no better than his backups. That level of play doesn’t give him the right to speak about anyone else’s play.

Count me as one who loves it when an athlete speaks his mind. It makes my work more fun and a bit easier. I hate clichés, as they are the equivalent of not speaking at all. But a guy has to know when to keep quiet or use a cheap cliché. If RG3 was looking for the opportune moment for a meaningless phrase like, “we’ve got to work harder” or “we have to execute better as a team”, then he missed it.

Griffin’s comments were so out of place that his head coach was forced to wade into the muck with him. Jay Gruden had to address the issue in his post game press conference. And address it he did, as he dressed down his young signal caller. He pointed out all the ways RG3 screwed up in the Bucs game. I lost count at seven critiques which involved foot work, wrong drop back steps, and general mechanics. Gruden made it clear that Griffin had no room to say anything negative about the guys around him.

I feel like Robert Griffin III has a false confidence that comes from his outstanding Heisman performance in college. He is no longer that player. This is the NFL and he is not playing against the scrubs on Baylor’s schedule that allowed him to rack up big time stats. He is up against real defenses that have dynamic athletes and highly paid coordinators that know how to make a QB’s life miserable. RG3 is just that right now, miserable. And he decided to take it out on the wrong people after the Tampa Bay loss.

Maybe RG3 gets to an elite level someday. If so then he has a little room to criticize his team, but not much even then. It does no good to do so. If he reaches a Manning level or Rodgers level then he can say what he wants. He can even jump on the scoreboard operator like Peyton did earlier in the year. But you don’t get to talk about others’ bad play while you are exhibiting the exact same level of play.

NFL Week 11 – What to Watch For: Mark Ingram vs Jeremy Hill

bills versus dolphins nfl images 2014

A lot of bad teams are facing off against each other this week, but when bad teams get together it’s usually a pretty good game. The playoff race is heating up, and this week promises to have huge implications on the standings, especially in the AFC. With 12 games tomorrow, here’s a few things to watch:

mark ingram versus jeremy hill nfl week 11 images 2014

Mark Ingram vs. Jeremy Hill: Both the New Orleans Saints and the Cincinnati Bengals, two teams that very rarely lose at home, are coming off embarrassing home losses. Unfortunately for the Bengals, they’ll have to try to bounce back in the Superdome. Another thing both teams have done this season is find an amazing, reliable running back even with their normal work horse out. For the Saints, Mark Ingram has emerged as one of the top backs in the league this season. In the past Pierre Thomas has been the main back; however, with both Thomas and Khiry Robinson out and Ingram healthy again, Ingram has had an opportunity to show the stuff that won him a Heisman Trophy at Alabama. For the Bengals, Gio Bernard is still out; but Jeremy Hill has been able to fill in nicely. If it weren’t for his fumbling problem, he would be the perfect replacement. Neither team has an outstanding defense, so this game could come down to which back can rush for more yards early.

denver broncos versus tampa bay buccaneers

Broncos Offensive Line vs. St. Louis Rams Defense: The Broncos have struggled in the beginnings of games recently, as if they are just waiting for Peyton Manning to bail them out of every situation. Well, Manning does everything for this offense already; but one thing he cannot do is block for himself. The offensive line will need to play right from the beginning in order to protect Manning from one of the best defensive lines in the NFL. The Broncos cannot come out like they did last weekend against the Raiders, because the Rams will do a lot more damage than the Raiders did.

washington redskins robert griffin iii versus tampa bay buccaneers

Robert Griffin III vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defense: This matchup didn’t make the list because it’s two greats going at it, actually quite the opposite. This game could be the end of the RGIII era in Washington in the Redskins can’t pull out a win against a weak Bucs team—especially since they’re playing in Washington. Griffin has received a ton of criticism since returning to the lineup, and his one game back was a loss to a bad Minnesota Vikings team. Colt McCoy definitely looked like the best option for the Redskins in their victory over the Dallas Cowboys, but for now Griffin is the man in D.C. This game could determine how much longer that will be the case.

NFL Week 11 Preview – Not Such An Exciting Week

The lineup this week isn’t exactly pretty, but football is football and I for one am still going to watch every game possible (even Minnesota vs. Chicago if it’s on). Maybe if two really bad teams play each other it’ll be a good game. Anyways, let’s take a look at Week 11:

Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears: The Bears really screwed their franchise over by giving Jay Cutler that $100 million contract extension. The Vikings just suck. Home field advantage will surely play its part here. Chicago wins, because if they don’t the entire city would riot.

Houston Texans at Cleveland Browns: The Browns are for real this season: Brian Hoyer has done a fantastic job leading the team; and the defense is starting to improve as well. Houston has a great defense, but their offense desperately needs a savior. Cleveland should have no problem holding them to only a score or two.

Atlanta Falcons at Carolina Panthers: Here’s another sucky matchup. The Falcons can’t win on the road, so once again home field advantage seems to be the main factor separating these two. Carolina wins, but they still suck.

Cincinnati Bengals at New Orleans Saints: Both of these teams are superb at home, yet somehow both of them lost at home last week. The Saints aren’t going to lose at home twice in a row; and Cincinnati doesn’t have the offense, especially on the road, to put up much resistance.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Washington Redskins: Here’s another matchup of sad teams. Robert Griffin III will be starting again, but he still has yet to prove that that’s a good thing. The Redskins should be able to come out of this game with a close victory, but if they can’t they need to go back to Colt McCoy.

Denver Broncos at St. Louis Rams: The Rams are a pretty good team, but the Broncos are a great team. The Rams have a pretty good defense, which just means Peyton Manning might not throw for five touchdowns again this week. Then again, he could if he wanted to. Broncos win no problem.

San Francisco 49ers at New York Giants: These teams always have great matchups in the playoffs, but the Giants just aren’t prepared for this game. The Giants offensive line is still nonexistent, and the Niners are revitalized after a win in New Orleans. The 49ers have the edge in this game.

Seattle Seahawks at Kansas City Chiefs: Seattle is not the same team on the road, mainly because they still don’t have a quarterback who can actually, well, pass the ball. The Chiefs are actually the favorites coming into this game, and with the way they’ve been playing at home they’ll have no problem sending the Seahawks home with a loss.

Oakland Raiders at San Diego Chargers: The Chargers are definitely the better team, but the Raiders have been competitive recently (excluding the game against Denver). The Raiders actually should have beaten the Chargers last time they played. The Chargers will win, but look for the Raiders to at least put up a fight.

Detroit Lions at Arizona Cardinals: Carson Palmer is definitely the best quarterback on the Cardinals roster, but Drew Stanton is a solid player. The Cardinals and Lions both have solid defenses; but Matthew Stafford is a lot more likely to screw up, especially on the road. The Cardinals rally around Stanton and get the W at home.

Philadelphia Eagles at Green Bay Packers: Mark Sanchez is a good quarterback—that’s right I said it. He got caught up in the fame in New York, and it showed. Sanchez needed the whole switching teams and competition thing to get him back on track. Aaron Rodgers looked good last week. The Packers are really good at home; so they’ll win, but expect a shootout.

New England Patriots at Indianapolis Colts: Indy is good, but they still aren’t serious contenders. The Patriots are good at home. Tom Brady can only win if his team does everything for him, but the Colts will find some way to stop them in Indianapolis. Colts win, and until the Patriots prove they can compete on the road continue to bet against them.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Tennessee Titans: Ben Roethlisberger must have let the 12 touchdowns go to his head, because he and the Steelers imploded last weekend against the Jets. Fortunately for them, they’re playing the Titans this weekend. The Titans can’t beat anyone. Steelers bounce back and get the road win.

Will Seattle Seahawks Cut Marshawn Lynch Loose?

marshawn lynch holding on for seattle seahawks nfl 2015

It is becoming apparent that Marshawn Lynch is not long for the Seattle Seahawks. It appears from reports from NFL insiders that Seattle will have to shed the contract of the valuable runner who has been a key part of the offense since he arrived in the northwest. The Seahawks would love to keep the guy obviously, but there is that pesky salary cap to deal with. Oh, and Russell Wilson will be in need of some huge dollar bills when he is able to renegotiate his rookie contract after this year. Lynch has been important, but he can only run and catch. Wilson can run, throw, and orchestrate the entire offense. An NFL quarterback will never be ignored for the sake of a running back. Never. And Wilson is something special. Lynch can be replaced by a guy that will do it a bit cheaper for a while. That is cold I know. That is today’s NFL.

The only way Lynch would be able to stay with Seattle is if he were willing to redo his contract. That is a way for a team to keep a beloved player in some cases. But Lynch isn’t going to want to hear that. The guy wanted more money just this past training camp. I would not want to be the Seahawks executive who broached the matter of a smaller check to Lynch to make sure Wilson gets his multi millions. They better get the lowly assistant that tells players that “coach needs to see you in his office….bring your playbook,” to mention it to the beast. Then look for an assistant to replace the one who gets his face bitten off by Lynch for asking.

If I were a Hawks fan writing a farewell letter to Seattle beast back Marshawn Lynch, it would go like this: “We appreciate all you did for us Marshawn. We love the Super Bowl trophy and cool banner you helped get us. We wish you the best in 2015 in all you do. We enjoyed your performance on a weekly basis and we know you gave the team all you had and more. Farewell old friend, as we have to move on as a fan base. I can’t tell you how much we appreciat……..WHOOOO! TOUCHDOWN! Russell Wilson to ‘fill in the blank tail back’…WHAT A PLAY! Anyway….Thanks Marshawn. See ya around.”

The NFL is a cruel place for players, especially running backs. Marshawn Lynch will always have a place in the history books of the Seattle Seahawks. It is a sad fact of business that players just can’t stay with the same team forever. I would love to see guys like Lynch finish his career with the team that he helped carry to their first Super Bowl win. His teammates would love for it to happen as well. And of course the fans like to see that loyalty from the team owner. But business is business and the show must go on. Seattle didn’t set up the salary cap situation. They are only operating in the system that they are given to work with here.

Lynch still has something left to give once this year is over. He is not washed up by a damn site. There will be a few teams that feel like they are close to a title and just need a powerful running back to get over the hump. Those teams with cap room will welcome Marshawn Lynch in with open arms. Maybe he will get another ring with a different team. Who knows. What he did in Seattle will never be forgotten, despite my cynicism with the fan letter I amused myself with earlier. I will be rooting for this tough nosed runner to become unforgettable for another city in 2015. By the way, 2014 is not over yet. The Seattle history books could see one more postseason beast-mode entry yet.

Adrian Peterson Abuse Controversy Gets Murkier For NFL

adrian peterson abuse nfl controversy gets worse

The Adrian Peterson situation with the NFL is becoming a murky situation. The Peterson camp wanted the issue resolved with his playing status as soon as possible after his court case ended. The Vikings running back took a plea deal of no contest to one count of misdemeanor reckless assault in the case involving his young son. However, as the NFL set up a meeting to resolve Peterson’s status, the Peterson camp stated that the ALL Pro runner would not be appearing before Commissioner Goodell and his team of outside experts.

This is all very confusing of course. First Peterson wants to be reinstated by Goodell so he can get back to playing football. Then he refuses to take part in a meeting that could make that happen. It sounds crazy on the surface, but Peterson isn’t walking into this thing blindly. He certainly has a team of lawyers advising him about the right moves to make here. He may be the best running back in the NFL, but he is certainly not a pro at dealing with legal situations like this that could damage his career further.

The union is making a push for some better defined guidelines in this case also. They apparently feel like the NFL is “making up stuff as they go along.” And that is actually correct. Ever since domestic violence became the hottest hot button issue ever in the NFL, the league has been scrambling to change the way they deal with these cases. And to be honest they don’t know up from down. If the league makes a wrong move, they hurt their public image even further. If they are too aggressive, they could break some labor laws and get sued possibly. The NFL also has to deal with its union.

The league has consistently steamrolled this player union that is the weakest in the world of sports, but they do have to operate within some of the guidelines to keep up appearances I suppose. Peterson has a simple and logical argument in regards to the hearing that Roger Goodell mandated for him. This type of hearing was not agreed to by the NFLPA, so Peterson decided it was a bad idea for him to attend such a meeting after consulting with his union reps.

Peterson released a statement laying out his reasons for skipping the meeting with Goodell:

The report that I backed out of a meeting with the NFL is just not true. When Roger Goodell’s office asked that I attend the “hearing” on Friday, I consulted with my union and learned that this “hearing” was something new and inconsistent with the CBA. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this past week, my union sent emails, letters, and had conversations with his office on my behalf asking about the nature of the hearing, how it was to occur, who would participate, and its purpose. We repeatedly asked them to respond quickly to my questions because I want to cooperate and get back on the field, but they didn’t respond until late Wednesday evening, and even then they didn’t answer important questions about their proposed “hearing.”

After consulting with the union, I told the NFL that I will attend the standard meeting with the Commissioner prior to possible imposition of discipline, as has been the long-term practice under the CBA, but I wouldn’t participate in a newly created and non-collectively bargained pre-discipline “hearing” that would include outside people I don’t know and who would have roles in the process that the NFL wouldn’t disclose. At this point, I’ve resolved my matter in the criminal court; I’ve worked to make amends for what I’ve done; I’ve missed most of the season, and I stand ready to be candid and forthcoming with Mr. Goodell about what happened. However, I will not allow the NFL to impose a new process of discipline on me, ignore the CBA, ignore the deal they agreed to with me, and behave without fairness or accountability. The process they are pushing is arbitrary, inconsistent, and contrary to what they agreed to do, and for those reasons, I never agreed to the hearing.

I’m sorry for all of this, but I can’t excuse their refusal to be fair.

Whether you agree with the way Peterson disciplined his child or not is a separate issue. He handled that matter in a court of law, which is the higher law in the land than Mr. Goodell’s “courtroom”. It is totally logical for Peterson to want the treatment that is laid out in the collective bargaining agreement that he signed. The NFL had to change up their personal conduct policy in light of the awful domestic abuse cases from earlier in the season. However, they can’t just do whatever the hell they want…no matter what Roger Goodell thinks.

Peterson can’t fight such a battle with Goodell or the NFL on his own. As slimy as lawyers are, they are helpful in cases like this. Same goes for unions. The little guy in this case, a physical beast of an athlete, needs a stronger group to fight for his rights as an NFL football player. The league is trying to handle all these cases as best they can and has involved outside experts. But the players are not going to just roll over when they feel they are being dealt with unfairly.

A better personal conduct policy should have been in place long ago that considered domestic violence in the NFL. That was not the case however, so we are left with an ever changing mess as the NFL tries to get it right. The league can’t just trample all over the players’ rights as they do so. Peterson went too far in his discipline of his child. The NFL has to be careful they don’t do the same thing with their discipline. Each case is unique and needs careful consideration.

NFL Week 9 Recap 2014

0

I am going to have to stop trying to figure out who is the best team in the NFL. It is impossible to do. Week to week things are totally different. It seems that three week runs of greatness is all that teams are capable of in 2014. That being said, the Steelers are going to win the Super Bowl. Kidding…they look awesome over the past two weeks and are on a three game win streak, but I am not hitching my wagon to them just yet. Week 10 could see another team emerge as dominant.

New England looks as good as anyone, including the Steelers. They surely are the same team with the no names on offense I was railing about earlier in the season. These wide outs are not likely to look so good in the playoffs. Their weaknesses will be exposed, but Belichick is good at covering up those deficiencies in the regular season. Especially when all they have to do is be better than Buffalo, Miami, and the Jets to win their division each year. All that said, Denver got whacked by the Patriots in Foxboro. This is not a new theme for Peyton Manning, who should hire a witch doctor of some sort to get rid of whatever Bradilchick curse that is on him. This game likely goes the other way in Denver, so the fight for home field in the AFC is extremely important between these two teams. Round 16 of the Brady v. Manning series goes to the Golden Boy, 43-21. A boxing ref would have stopped this series long ago as Manning has been on the losing side 11 of the 16 match ups.

The Saints are trying to resurrect their season. They beat the Panthers, who are on their way down in flames, 28-10. This was the first road win for New Orleans since November of 2013, so I wouldn’t hang any hopes on them if I were a betting man. Mark Ingram continued his hot play with another 100 yard game. Brees had a TD running the ball, a rarity, and another passing score.

Dallas, playing without Tony Romo, had nothing for Arizona. The Cardinals won this one 28-17 in a game that they controlled throughout. The Dallas rushing game should have been able to make up for Romo’s absence due to a back injury. However, backup Brandon Weeden looked like the backup he is, and offered no help to Murray’s rushing performance. Murray failed to reach 100 yards for the first time this season. The Cowboys get Jacksonville next week with no assurance of a Romo return. The Cardinals sit atop the NFC and have not lost to any other conference foe this year.

Philadelphia continued their winning ways with a 31-21 victory over Houston. Mark Sanchez filled in for Nick Foles who went out with a collar bone break and will miss at least four weeks. Sanchez played good enough for the win despite throwing two interceptions. This game caused Texans coach Bill O’Brien to tap Ryan Mallett as the starter for the foreseeable future. Ryan Fitzpatrick is getting worse and costing a great defense losses each week. “This could be the thing that helps our team”, said O’Brien. That is quite the understatement considering Fitzpatrick’s decline. Putting JJ Watt in at QB would likely help the team at this point.

Miami just made it official….San Diego was making fools of us who were on their bandwagon a few weeks ago. Same Chargers, same mid season free fall. The Dolphins destroyed the pretenders 37-0 in Miami. I don’t get how a team can look so dominant in the first part of the year and then fall off this badly. It is one thing to lose a game here and there. But 37-0 to Miami is a deeper issue. The Dolphins have played much better since Ryan Tannehill was openly criticized by his coach after poor play at the start of the season. He had three TD passes in this game and went for 288 yards.

Robert Griffin III made his triumphant return to the Redskins with a thud. They lost 29-26 to the Vikings as RG3 was sacked five times. That is bad news for a quarterback that is just coming back from a nasty injury. Look for the rest of 2014 to be a state of misery for Washington fans, players, and coaches. The Skins’ bus drivers are even having a tough season as well, crashing into each other before the game. No injuries in that incident thankfully.

Good news for Seattle fans. They scored some decent points on Sunday. Bad news is that they needed all of them and they were playing Oakland. The final was 30-24 and nothing to brag about, but a win is a win in the NFL. Seattle is 5-3 and the Raiders remain consistent at 0-8. It is looking inevitable that the Raiders will get the first pick in the 2015 draft. So another promising college player’s life will be ruined come draft night.

The Colts whipped the Giants handily 40-24. The G-Men were never close in this game unless you count pregame warm ups. Eli couldn’t keep up with Andrew Luck, as the third year stud threw for his seventh straight 300 yarder. That is better than the other Manning’s record as a Colt by the way.

Big Ben set an NFL record by throwing six touchdown passes for the second consecutive game. Twelve is better than any QB in the history of the league, as the Steelers were too much for hated rival Baltimore. This game was a big departure from the first meeting between these two teams in week two. The Ravens had dominated that game, with the Steelers having no offensive output to speak of. Pittsburgh made up for it with 43 points in this one while the Ravens managed only 23 in a losing effort. Roethlisberger is not going to go crazy with that many touchdown throws each week, but he is on a hell of a streak right now. Check that….they play the Jets next week. So he could throw seven touchdowns in that one.

NFL Week 10 Indepth Recap – Browns Gets Biggest Win In Years

nfl 2014 full season recaps

In a league that has become pass first, it was nice to see some rushing game this weekend. Teams like the Indianapolis Colts could certainly use a little bit of running every once in a while. Never mind that, here’s a recap of Week 10 in the NFL:

johnny manzel bulge for cleveland browns images 2014 nfl

Cleveland Browns 24 at Cincinnati Bengals 3: This is arguably the biggest win the Browns franchise has seen in years. Sure, they pulled off the upset against the Saints and crushed the Steelers, but both of those games were played in Cleveland. A big part of this win was Andy Dalton and his inability to show up in big games. Dalton finished 10 of 33. That’s right, 10 of 33. 86 yards and three picks. The Bengals will never win with him at quarterback.

dallas cowboys versus jacksonville jaguars images 2014

Jacksonville Jaguars 17 at Dallas Cowboys 31: Maybe Goodell is trying to ship the Jaguars off to London, because there is no other reason to have them play over there every year. This game was over as soon as Dez Bryant stepped on the field. Two touchdowns from Dez almost outscored the entire Jaguars team. Please stop scheduling the Jags in London, even they don’t want to see that.

Miami Dolphins 16 at Detroit Lions 20: Calvin Johnson returned in spectacular fashion in this one. Brent Grimes did an outstanding job on coverage, but Johnson still had 113 yards and a touchdown. The Dolphins nearly won this game anyways because the Lions tried to lose. They ran two fake punts in this game. The first one worked beautifully, but you aren’t going to trick them twice in the same game. A blocked Lions field goal led to an easy touchdown for Ryan Tannehill, and Johnson had two dropped touchdowns in his first game back. In the end, Matthew Stafford found Theo Riddick for the winning score.

Buffalo Bills 13 at Kansas City Chiefs 17: The Bills really killed themselves in this game. Bryce Brown’s fumble out the back of the end zone really blew the game for Buffalo, but multiple Kyle Orton incompletions that should have been touchdowns preceded that. Alex Smith didn’t look great; but in his defense, the Chiefs offensive line did absolutely nothing against the Bills tough front.

san francisco versus new orleans saints game images 2014

San Francisco 49ers 27 at New Orleans Saints 24: The 49ers finally played like they have been for the past four seasons. This was without a doubt the Niners best game of the season; however, they had a lot of help from Drew Brees who didn’t play like himself at all. Brees had two interceptions that he tried to force into triple coverage, and he looked horrible in the two minute drill. Jimmy Graham really saved the day for the Saints; and he won the game for the Saints on the last play, but the Niners defender flopped and got the call.

tennessee titans versus baltimore ravens images 2014

Tennessee Titans 7 at Baltimore Ravens 21: If you’re a Ravens fan then this small victory of the Titans should worry you. The Titans should have actually been up 14-0 at one point, but Shonn Green fumbled on the goal line. In the second half, the Ravens made the key adjustment that won them the game—keep the ball out of Joe Flacco’s hands. Justin Forsett had 92 yards after halftime as well as two touchdowns.

Pittsburgh Steelers 13 at New York Jets 20: Maybe Ben Roethlisberger got cocky. His one touchdown in this game came with less than two minutes left in the game. Big Ben was no match for the Jets defense. Antonio Brown had two fumbles. It just wasn’t the Steelers day, and the Jets earned their second victory of the season.

Atlanta Falcons 27 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17: Does anyone really care about this game? Neither of these teams has nor will do anything this season. Josh McCown is the starter again in Tampa, and he did all right. 301 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions wasn’t what the Bucs needed to win but whatever. The problem for the Bucs was the inability to run the ball. In fact, McCown led the team in rushing with 39 yards.

Denver Broncos 41 at Oakland Raiders 17: The Raiders actually started out really well. Poor offensive line play by the Broncos led to multiple passes being batted down and two interceptions off tips. But then Peyton Manning started playing, and of course the Raiders couldn’t keep up. Manning threw five touchdowns in less than two quarters worth of time. The Broncos defense also looked competent against the Raiders, so maybe there still is hope for the future.

St. Louis Rams 14 at Arizona Cardinals 31: Carson Palmer tore his ACL in this game, and although the Cardinals were better without him this weekend, that will not be the case down the road. The Cardinals really won this game with defense. The Rams defense proved too much for any Cardinals quarterback, but Drew Stanton looked good in his little bit of playing time. The Cardinals are 8-1, but without Palmer winning down the stretch may be out of reach.

New York Giants 17 at Seattle Seahawks 38: This game was a lot closer than the final score, mainly because Russell Wilson can’t throw. But in this game, he didn’t need to. The Seahawks won this game completely off defense and the run game. The Hawks rushed for 350 total yards, led by 140 from Marshawn Lynch including four touchdowns. Poor Eli didn’t have a chance.

Chicago Bears 14 at Green Bay Packers 55: After giving up six touchdowns to Aaron Rodgers in the first half the Bears have been demoted to college football. Or at least they need to be. That’s really the only important stat from this game, because nothing after halftime matter. For the record, the Packers are not that good and Rodgers is certainly not that good—the Bears are just that bad.

Carolina Panthers 21 at Philadelphia Eagles 45: I truly believe Mark Sanchez is the best option for the Eagles. Nick Foles has been overrated since he stepped up for the injured Michael Vick last season. Sanchez was always great in New York until he let it go to his head. After that the butt-fumble happened and his career seemed to be over. Well, Sanchez dominated the Panthers last night. Sanchez had some issues throughout the game; but he finished with 332 yards and two touchdowns, undoubtedly better than anything Foles would have done.

And for all you Mark Sanchez fans, here’s one of his more revealing funny vids he let slip out with him dancing half naked with a couple of women celebrating. Enjoy and be back next week with our Week 11 recap.

TOP CHEF: BOSTON Season 12 Ep 4 Recap – Rebecca & James Flame Out

bravo top chef boston season 12 rebecca james ousted

This week the Top Chef contestants tackle their next Boston adventure. If you were an avid TV watcher in the 80s (or you weren’t but you didn’t live under a rock either) you’ll notice that this week’s show sends the chefs to a little place “where everybody knows your name.” Chefs were asked to show up at an address that turned out to be the famous bar “Cheers” that inspired its namesake TV show (one of the biggest comedy hits of the 80s.)

george wendt cheer on top chef boson with padma 2014

Once the chefs arrived they found out they would be cooking for not only Padma, but also Cheers actor George Wendt, who played the beloved character of Norm on the show. As this week’s quickfire challenge got underway the chefs were tasked with using the food supplies in the fully stocked kitchen to make some kind of traditional bar food with a gourmet twist within a half hour. When it came time to judge the quickfire George picked his favorite and least favorite, with Gregory’s screwed up burger being something he mentioned. He chose Katsuji as having the best dish which of course pissed off Mr. “my only goal in life is to get rid of Katsuji so I can be the big cheese” Aaron. Who’s laughing now Aaron? Because now Katsuji has immunity for this week and you have, let’s see…nothing.

Moving on to the heart of each episode, the chefs went to one of the Italian restaurants owned by Top Chef Masters’s Michael Schlow, Via Mata. This week’s elimination challenge required them to prepare a fancy and elaborate three course Italian meal. The meal had to include an antipasto, pasta dish and secondi (seafood) dish. Some chefs were more nervous than others as some were well versed in preparing Italian food while others weren’t.

top chef boson teams pick aaron 2014

Divided into four teams, each team member was responsible for making one menu for their team alone. But there was an added element to this elimination challenge that we haven’t seen in the past. Since the chefs were working in the restaurant during business hours part of the competition was to see which team’s menu would get the highest number of orders from the restaurant’s patrons. The chefs on the orange team ended up being the under dogs in this elimination challenge as the other three teams were have their menus chosen time and time again while the orange team stood around taking up space.

The green team was specifically praised for the quality of the pasta dish they made. Each judge seemed equally impressed by it.

There was a panic among the chefs as everyone fought for space in the kitchen to work. As tensions grew little arguments broke out between the chefs. One thing that added tension to the kitchen was that Michael Schlow was monitoring them to see how they were performing, which means he got an earful from some stressed out and bickering cheftestants. Despite all the drama, Katie kept her cool in the kitchen.

As if they weren’t dealing with enough limitations already they had to contend with guest judge Emmy Rossum requires any dish she eats to be free of all gluten (though the chefs were told someone had a gluten free diet, but the person in question was not identified to them.) Richard Blais also joined Emmy, Padma and Tom in dining on and critiquing everyone’s dishes. Katsuji was tasked with creating the needed gluten free dish and he remarked that it is a good thing he has immunity this week, heavily implying that he has no idea what he is doing when it comes to making sure a dish is gluten free.

Tom mentioned that some of the arugula wasn’t prepared as well as it could have been. However, Katie’s dish was praised by the judges as they enjoyed her zucchini and pasta.

As the judges met with Michael Schlow they discussed the highlights and lowlights of the dishes. The purple team received praise from each of the judge’s though they received criticism too. One of the reasons the orange team didn’t do as well as it could have was because the salad left something to be desired according to the judges. James’s seafood salad was criticized by the judges as well. Stacey’s vegetables didn’t go over very well with the judges either.

The pressure was on for this week’s elimination challenge as two chefs were set to be eliminated. This knocks the number of competing chefs from 12 down to only 10. As it came down to this week’s “judgement day” the judges recapped some of the highlights and lowlights. Michael Schlow announced that the purple team beat the other three teams. Their menu was the one that impressed the judges the most. The orange team was once again criticized for the menu they created.

James was raked through the mud by the judges because his dish lacked enough oil to impress the judges in the least little bit. He was then asked to pack his knives and leave, along with Rebecca. Tom said that both their dishes were not original enough or prepared well enough to hold up against the competition. James walked away with the attitude that he was going to go home and keep cooking like he always has.

One thing about this week’s show that I preferred is that there wasn’t as much personal drama as there has been in past episodes. The focus should be on the cooking and the thoughts and attitudes of the chefs when it comes to their experience in the kitchen and how they use that to contribute to Top Chef.

As the season continues I predict we will see more new twists thrown in for the cheftestants to battle. When you have a competition show that has been running as long as Top Chef has you need to keep injecting new aspects into the show to keep it fresh and keep the audience watching it.

NFL Week 10 Recap: Tony Romo Back & Johnny Manziel Worth It Plus NSFW Mark Sanchez Video

Is it just me….actually, don’t need to ask….I know it seems like the season just started and yet here we are just six weeks away from the end of the regular season. Time flies when having fun (i.e. drinking beer and watching the NFL). Once again, week ten proved a front runner can get cooled off in a hurry. I am looking right at you Steelers fan. It also proved that I will never win a dime on FanDuel.com. I am looking right at you Ben Roethlisberger! Thanks for that pitiful performance over the one-win Jets. Make that two wins now.

Johnny Manziel was clearly the right man for the Cleveland Browns to take to help at the quarterback spot. J-football has not been a factor for the Browns on the field. But it is possible he lit a fire under Brian Hoyer, who has been steady as a rock for the 6-3 Browns. The team got to the six-win mark with a victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Cincy this past Sunday, 24-3. The words “postseason” are now being used in regards to the historically maligned franchise. There are some suspect opponents coming up too so that will help the Cleveland cause.

Kansas City kept their solid pace going in a win over Buffalo 17-13. The Chiefs don’t stand out in any one area, but they are getting wins based on their all-around play. Alex Smith is not the fantasy QB of your dreams, but he gets wins, and that is all that matters when it comes down to it. In the playoffs, a team will have to contend with a powerful rushing game from the Chiefs. K.C. will have to make sure they don’t get behind in a game where that running attack won’t help. Playoff talk may be starting too early. My bad.

Megatron made his return to the lineup as Detroit got by a game Miami team. The Dolphins would have folded by this point in prior seasons, but they are hanging around at 5-4. The Lions got a score from CJ in his return and seven catches for 113 yards. Matt Stafford has learned to spread the ball around and now that he has his favorite Decepticon back, the Lions are looking to dominate the NFC down the stretch. Detroit over Miami in this one 20-16.

Dallas got back on track with a win over the helpless Jaguars 31-17. Tony Romo came back from a back injury that cost him a game last week and his team a loss. The Jags could have been beaten without Romo most likely, with a heavy dosage of DeMarco Murray, but the Boys were not taking that chance. They are now at 7-3 after the win in London. Hopefully, England will not wage another war with us after getting sent Jag games every year now.

San Francisco kept their hope alive with an overtime win in New Orleans 27-24. The game should have ended in regulation as Jimmy Graham caught a Drew Brees hail mary as time ran out. But the bull of a tight end was flagged for OPI (offensive pass interference). Sure he put his hands on the defender and the little corner ended up on the turf. But the acting job was more the issue than the actual push from Graham. The Saints still have slim playoff hopes in the NFC South; that is if the Commish doesn’t go NASCAR and make a rule change mid-season to ban that division from wasting playoff time this year.

The Steelers didn’t take long to topple off their Big Ben high of the past two weeks. After throwing 12 touchdowns in that time period, the Steelers QB went dormant against the lowly Jets. He manged one TD throw in this game. Mike Vick, on the other hand, played really well for NY and may end up messing up the Jets’ chance at the #1 pick in the 2015 draft. Jets 20, Pittsburgh 13.

The good news for Arizona is that they got the win over the Rams 31-14 thanks to a 21 point fourth quarter. The awful news came as the team learned that Carson Palmer tore his ACL and will not be a part of their possible playoff run. The starting quarterback for the Cardinals had just signed a contract extension with the team days earlier also. That is a huge blow to the team that is as good as any in the league at the moment. How they will fare with Drew Stanton at the QB1 spot is up in the air. He has played well, but the post season is a different animal, and he will be under the microscope then. It will also be a chance to show the rest of the league his value. A few backups have earned big contracts in the past by filling in at the right times and playing well.

The Seahawks got a win versus the Giants and are now 6-3. Their 38-17 win came with a big day from Marshawn Lynch, who had a monster fantasy performance. The beast scored four touchdowns and made the Giant defense look dumbstruck in the latter half of this game.

mark sanchez shirtless bath for philadelphia eagles 2014 images

Aaron Rodgers showed up Big Ben by tossing six touchdowns in only one half! The Packers QB is the unquestioned best passer in football, period. The Pack laid waste to the Bears 55-14. Chicago has all but quit….check that, they just announced their official quittage via twitter. “We quit”, was the team’s statement.

Philly rode the hot play of one Mark Sanchez to a win over Carolina 45-21. This game was over at halftime in all honesty. The Panthers are struggling mightily and the rest of this year will not be pleasant. Look for Cam Newton to go emo any day now. I am not confident in the Eagles’ ability to go all the way to a Super Bowl with Sanchez, or Foles for that matter. But this team keeps on winning each and every week. Chip Kelly has his team flying under the radar at 7-2. They are not getting nearly the credit given to other teams with similar win-loss columns.

THE WALKING DEAD Self Help Recap: Eugene Likes to Watch

the walking dead self help 505 zombie images 2014

Our zombie adventure starts out this week with the short bus rolling toward Washington D.C. We see Rosita stroking Abraham’s fire red hair and the payoff from that comes later in a dark library. Then the camera turns to the gloom and doom face of Eugene. He is apparently depressed and can’t hide his pitifulness as the bus crew makes its way down the highway.

Maggie and Glenn show a ton of faith in Eugene’s ability to fix all the problems of the current world they inhabit. They are asking the alleged genius scientist how long it will take him to solve the zombie issue. They make it sound like he is going to be fixing the brakes at a car repair shop and they want to know how long they will have to wait. It would seem to me that getting rid of millions of walkers would take some time, like a few months minimum. These are undead humans walking around trying to eat what is left of the normal people. This is not going to be fixed overnight, if at all. This little scene made me question Maggie’s and Glenn’s intelligence.

walking dead burning bus for abraham self help images

As it normally turns out on “The Walking Dead“, you can’t have an uneventful car ride. Sure enough Abraham inexplicably loses control of the short bus and manages to flip it on its side. Not shockingly the bus is then semi surrounded by walkers, but the crew manages to exit the bus wielding knives to fight off the unfortunate undead traveling the road. Eugene is shown to be a true coward as he is scared to breathe much less move. Tara forces him to get out of the bus that is just a tiny bit ablaze. Eugene finally musters up the courage to get off the bus but has a hard time fighting the walkers. He does manage a half hearted stab to the back of the neck of a walker who had a hold of Tara. It is amazing Eugene lived through the world pre zombie apocalypse, much less the dangerous environment he is navigating now. I am shocked he wasn’t killed in a stapler accident at his lab back in the day.

In this episode we get a few flashbacks of Abraham and they are none too pleasant. Smashing in the head of a guy with a can of beans at a wrecked out grocery store is not a good look for the red headed leader of the present time bus gang. He was doing what he had to do at the time I assume, but the brutality is in question. It is so shocking that his wife and kids are afraid of him after seeing what he has done on the meat isle. It is becoming more apparent how unstable Abraham actually is as well. He flies off the handle easily and is not in full control of himself as a leader needs to be. Oh, and the bloody hand is a theme throughout this episode. Was big Abe bitten or scratched by a walker or not?

Once the group finds some sanctuary at a library they set up camp with book shelf dividers for rooms and even do some cooking on top of a trash can with coat hangers. Pretty smart. Again we see Glenn talking about the new world they are going to bring about when they get to D.C. Glenn has his rose colored glasses strapped on tight. And maybe that is the hope he needs to keep going forward with this mission. But it seems he is too confident in the cowardly doctor they are in charge of getting to a lab to solve humanity’s greatest problem ever.

In the library it is revealed by Eugene to Tara that he sabotaged the bus with some glass in the fuel line. Apparently the guy is insane because his reasoning made no sense to me. He was afraid so he made sure the bus got jacked up out on the road amongst walkers and who knows what else? A logical scientist would not plan such a fool hearty incident. Not to mention old Eugene is outed as a peeping Tom as he stares at Abraham and Rosita getting intimate. The guy looked like a Saint Bernard, with a mullet, gazing at humans having sex. Pretty disturbing, but no one seems too shocked at his odd behavior.

More flashbacks ensue as we learn that Abraham’s wife ran away with their kids since they are terrified of the man he has become in the grocery store massacre. He is left with a note and no more.

When the group decides to keep heading north, they have to round up a new vehicle. They find a fire truck that will do, so they mount up. I get a bad feeling from the start as I assumed the siren would get stuck blaring away and drawing in every dead-head within five miles. But the truck cranks up then sputters out as it creeps forward, allowing a building full of the town’s walkers to pile out toward the group. It is a nasty scene and looks bad until Dr. Eugene pulls out the fire truck hose from atop the vehicle and destroys all the walkers with the powerful water flow. This scene was a good concept but it didn’t come off right to me. The water was not strong enough from what I saw to just rip the zombies apart. If the walkers were that frail they would be much easier to kill by hand.

walking dead fire truck for abraham self help images

After the gang gets the fire truck on the road, they end up at a long stretch of highway where they stop to smell the stench. They walk over the hill to see a pile of zombies about two miles ahead blocking their path. When I say a pile, I mean a horde the size of which overran Hershel’s farm way back when. Crazy Abe insists on going through, but the group finally bucks him, even his lover Rosita. The big man won’t hear it and insists on moving forward, a theme throughout this episode. There is a scuffle and I thought, actually wished, Eugene was going to get accidentally shot as a gun barrel was waved by his giant head.

To stop the fight, Eugene breaks down and confesses he is a liar and a coward. The coward we already knew about and I had guessed for a while that he was no scientist. Not hard to guess by the way. He admits he knows nothing about curing the world’s zombie virus and that pisses Abe right off. After recounting all the people who died trying to protect him, Eugene the fraud is struck with a few haymakers from Abraham. The liar then drops face first on the pavement with a nasty thud. That big brain full of facts, figures, and video game stats may be forever scrambled after that fall.

At the end of the episode we see the start of Eugene’s lie in another flashback. Abraham is about to off himself, pistol in mouth, because he sees the remains of his family in a ghastly fashion. Then the mulletted one calls for help as he is chased by three walkers. Abe has to stop his suicide attempt to save Eugene. That is when the terrible lie began. However, it gave Abraham hope to keep moving forward to help Eugene get to Washington. Eugene did what he thought necessary to get help from Abraham. It kept both of them alive. How much longer, I am not sure.

TOTAL DIVAS Season 3 Episode 310 – TJ Still A Douche

On this week’s episode of Total Divas we continue to see what a monumentally huge asshole TJ is to his wife Natalya. The show opens with just about everyone asking her what is up with her and TJ. This is after the two of them got into quite an argument on last week’s show that many people backstage witnessed.

A year into their marriage TJ and Natalya may already be headed down the road to a divorce. It’s not too often I root for a couple to break up but I am the biggest cheerleader for getting Natalya away from TJ ASAP. He seems to have no respect for, desire for or interest in his own wife unless he is berating her in front of the cameras. Why she has yet to clock him for treating her this way, especially when they know they are being filmed for a reality show.

Though Natalya doesn’t strike me as the most sentimental person ever, you know the problems in her marriage are getting to her when she pours her heart out to the camera that will broadcast her heartbreak for the world to see.

total divas tj with natalya images 2014

To give you a smidgen of an idea of what a jackass TJ is, notice that in this episode Natalya pulls Eva Marie aside and tells her that, though TJ is pumped about attending her and Jonathan’s wedding, Natalya doesn’t want to cause drama at the wedding so her plan is to beg Eva Marie to seat TJ away from her during the nuptials and reception. That pretty much says it all right there, so I am done with the topic of what a sleezeball TJ is (for this week, at least. Don’t think we won’t go into this again during the next recap though.) What shocked me more than Natalya’s request was Eva Marie’s response to it, which was basically, “you’re a big girl. Suck it up and sit with your own husband.” Which, if you ask me, is pretty harsh. But then again I have never been a fan of Eva Marie anyway…

In happier relationship news Eva Marie is busy preparing for said upcoming wedding. This week’s episode shows her and fiancé Jonathan shopping for her wedding dress and his tuxedo. It also brings viewers into the gym to see Eva Marie working out for her upcoming cover shoot for the women’s version of Muscle & Fit Magazine.

After watching him in the ring every week I have to say it is shocking and a little jarring to see John Cena of all people dealing with laundry (though I highly suspect once the camera stops rolling the maid steps in and takes over.) When he holds a pair of Nikki’s G-string panties in his hand they look like they were made for a Barbie doll.

Poor Nikki and Brie are seen walking into an L.A. restaurant with Daniel Bryan and an excited fan runs up to them and asks them to say something to her friend on the phone. Though Nikki and Brie happily complied I wouldn’t be surprised if they only did so because the cameras were rolling. I met Nikki and Brie at a convention folks, and I have to tell you in real life they are a bit standoffish. So don’t believe everything you see on TV.

Once the girls made it into the restaurant Nikki, sitting right across from sister Brie and BIL Daniel Bryan stubbornly declared that (for this week anyway) she is content in her relationship with John Cena and she is starting to be OK with the idea of them never getting married. Of course, viewers who have tuned into Total Divas from the beginning will know that the couple already previously broke up because she wants to get married and have kids and he doesn’t. In a sidebar during this scene Brie stated that she knows her sister better than anyone and that Nikki is covering up the pain of knowing the man she loves doesn’t want what she wants.

In the next scene Brie and Brian are out with Brie’s parents and sisters, discussing the fact that they all know Nikki wants to get married and have kids but is stubbornly clinging to someone who has declared (more than once by the way) that he doesn’t want to.

This week’s show actually concludes Eva Marie and Jonathan’s outdoor wedding in Sonoma Valley. Eva Marie ditched her bizarre shade of hair that looks like she achieved it using red Kool- aid to her natural hair color of dark brown. If I had turned this episode on towards the end I would not have known who I was looking at. This stunning beauty of a woman does not need to be pouring a pitcher of Kool- aid over her head in order to be the picture perfect image of a woman.

During the after ceremony footage we see Brie and Nikki once again discussing the idea of marriage and that Nikki wants it. Brie states that she knows her sister feels defeated and she wants to talk to John about the future of his relationship with Nikki.

Poor Natalya is finally willing to admit in this point of this week’s episode that her marriage is falling apart and she needs to do something about it. As we sit there wondering what exactly she’s going to do we enter the final scene of the episode to see not only Brie, but her mom and brother meeting at a restaurant where they intend to have a discussion with John about Nikki John stuck to his guns and stated that from the first date they went on she knew he wasn’t interested in marriage or kids with anyone. Nikki’s brother pressures John to break up with Nikki so she can find someone else.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I will be counting down the days to the next episode of Total Divas.

TOP CHEF: BOSTON Season 12 Episode 3 Recap – Ron’s Out For the Count

top chef boston ron out season 12 images

Only three weeks into the 12th season of Top Chef (set in Boston this time) the claws are already coming out. While I was relieved to see that the season premiere spared us of the in house drama between the chefs (that you know the producers do everything they can to beef up) sadly that relief didn’t last long. I don’t know about you, but if I wanted to see a bunch of people living together that don’t know each other and don’t want to live together, I would watch Big Brother (or Real World, back in the day.) I watch Top Chef because I want to see the cooking competition. So can we please stick to that Bravo? Pretty please with crème fraiche on top?

Anyway, onto the important stuff. We kicked off the meat and potatoes of this week with the dreaded Sudden Death Quickfire Challenge. This week’s challenge meant these esteemed chefs had to come up with a gourmet dish that incorporates some type of tea. As they explained on the show, this was a nod to the Boston Tea Party. As with any quickfire challenge some of the chefs rose to the occasion while others crashed and burned horribly. Likely the pressure of knowing they would have their dishes judged by world famous chef and restaurant owner Ming Tsai caused some of them to drop the ball when it came to preparing their dishes.

Continuing with this season’s Boston theme the Elimination Challenge took place at Fenway Park. Each cheftestant (a word I really hate btw,) was tasked with creating a gourmet dish based on a typical ball park snack, such as popcorn, peanuts or hot dogs. As always, this led to some amazing creations and some that made you question what the chef was thinking when they chose the dish they chose. The Elimination Challenge was judged by Dennis Eckersley, a former player and current legend of the Boston Red Sox as well as Ming Tsai, Dan Shaughnessy and former Top Chef contestant and fan favorite, Richard Blais along with Padma and Tom as well (naturally Gail Simmons wasn’t anywhere near this one. We can’t have her subjected to such a dirty, filthy low class place as a baseball stadium.)

As much as I could live without it, I suppose we can’t do a thorough weekly recap of Top Chef without tackling the subject of the banter exchanged between the contestants. It has always been obvious that Top Chef Contestants are made to live together because it adds another level of competition to the show. As much as the chefs try to one up each other in the various kitchens they cook in throughout the season they try just as hard when they are sitting in the house they are forced to share for the duration of the competition. Actually this seeps into the actual competition too. Funny how they’re put in one room (ironically called a stew room) with a camera and nothing to do. Throw in a tremendous amount of stress on the part of everyone present and you have a recipe for drama. Katsuji and Aaron engaged in a verbal war where Katsuji told Aaron that he is making everyone hate him and Aaron threw back his own smart mouthed comments about Katsuji’s affinity for running his mouth that left the other contestants and the viewers at home on the edge of their seats. Aaron is just as hell bent on getting rid of Katsuji as Katsuji is on getting rid of him. As they traded insults back and forth Aaron told Katsuji to “shut his mouth with bread pudding.” Aaron arrogantly mentioned that bread pudding is “what five year olds cook,” And they say that women are catty.

I will admit sometimes the personal revelations contestants reveal on this show can be heartwarming. For the Elimination Challenge Katie shared that she was making a meal that reminds her of her late father. I’m not one to get sappy over reality shows (well, not this one, anyway) but when the judges told her that her dad would b be proud of her dish it gave me a warm squishy feeling that I don’t usually get. From anything.

I do have to say, after so many years of watching Top Chef I am starting to get a little tired of the judges ripping into the contestants when judgment time comes. While I understand the point of the show is to weed out the chefs that can’t hack it until you find the one you can I often feel like some of the comments Padma and Tom make are just unnecessarily harsh. Sadly though, this is what brings in viewers and keeps the ratings high, so I’m sure the harshness will not only continue but will get worse.

The shift from bringing the chefs in in groups to be judged to bringing them in all together to be judged is one that I do find brings an interesting dynamic to that portion of the show. Sure in previous seasons the groups that were still in the stew room could watch what was happening on a monitor, but I think it makes more of an impact on them to see it happening right in front of their faces.

Let’s face it; in a lot of ways Top Chef is like high school. Everyone is in everyone else’s business and people love seeing each other get reamed out by those in a position of authority, as the Top Chef judges are. They get to see exactly what they are in for if the judges think they screwed up. They also get to feel the tension in the room caused by being judged in front of their fellow chefs. This may be a bold move on the part of the producers to help each chef step up their game.

Check back next week to see what developments are in store.
