2014 NFL Week 17 Preview Plus Our Winning Picks

nfl 2014 week 17 picks movie tv tech geeks

The NFL regular season has reached its final week. Week 17 is all divisional matchups and is often a win-or-go-home situation. Here’s all of the results and their playoff implications:

AFC

Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens: Cleveland is out, but they can still spoil Baltimore’s party. The Ravens need a win to make the playoffs coupled with a Chiefs victory over the Chargers.

San Diego Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs: For San Diego its simple: win and you’re in. Kansas City has a much tougher road ahead. The Chiefs would have to win, the Jaguars would have to beat the Texans, and Cleveland would have to upset Baltimore.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans: The Texans are a long shot, but there’s still that sliver of hope. A win over the Jags plus a Ravens loss plus a Chargers loss means a trip to the postseason for the Texans a year after going 2-14.

Oakland Raiders at Denver Broncos: Denver has two ways of earning the second seed. Either a win over Oakland or a Cincinnati loss secures the first round bye for the Broncos.

Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers: This one is pretty simple. The winner gets the third seed, the loser gets the fifth seed. If the Broncos loss and the Bengals win then they get the second seed.

NFC

Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons: The winner gets the fourth seed, the loser goes home.

Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers: If the Packers win, the Lions drop to the sixth seed. A Lions win, however, puts them in the second seed. If the Cardinals and Seahawks both loss, the Lions will be the first seed.

St. Louis Rams at Seattle Seahawks: A win secures the Seahawks as the top seed. A loss and a Cardinals win makes them the fifth seed. A loss and a Cardinals loss makes them the third seed.

Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers: If the Seahawks win, the Cardinals are stuck in the fifth seed. A win, Seahawks loss, and Packers loss makes the Cardinals the top seed in the NFC. A loss makes the Cardinals the fifth seed. A Seahawks loss and a Packers win makes the Cardinals the second seed.

Here are my picks for Week 17:

2014 NFL Week 16 Recap: Johnny Manziel Injury Brings Down Browns & Colts Slip Showing

blake bortles passes jascksonville jaguars balls to teneessee titans nfl 2014 images

Tennessee Titans 13 at Jacksonville Jaguars 21: Sometimes two bad teams can come together and have a good game, but this certainly wasn’t one of those. Blake Bortles was really poor through the air finishing with 115 yards, but he was able to pick up some chunks of yardage using his feet. Charlie Whitehurst actually did pretty well for the Titans, but it doesn’t really matter at this point.

philadelphia eagles mark sanchez bulge down by trevardo williams redskins nfl 2014 images

Philadelphia Eagles 24 at Washington Redskins 27: Apparently the Eagles and Cowboys swapped roles this season. The Cowboys look great in December, and the Eagles have absolutely tanked. On top of that, Mark Sanchez threw a Tony Romo (late fourth quarter interception); and then the defense yielded 20 yards to the Redskins in penalties giving Washington a late field goal to win the game. Just like that, the Eagles may find themselves sitting at home in January.

eddie royal san diego chargers beats down chris culliver san francisco 49ers 2014 nfl season images

San Diego Chargers 38 at San Francisco 49ers 35: Colin Kaepernick and Frank Gore ran all over the Chargers in the first half. In fact, the score was 28-7 at half time. Philip Rivers was awful with three interceptions. Then, for whatever reason, the 49ers just decided they didn’t want to win anymore. With a 21 point lead, the Niners gave up. Rivers was able to mount a comeback. An appropriate ending for the Niners after a disappointing season.

vikings teddy bridgewater feels up dolpohins ryan tannehill bugle nfl 2014 images season

Minnesota Vikings 35 at Miami Dolphins 37: This was by far the most entertaining game of the week and it had absolutely no playoff implications. Both Ryan Tannehill and Teddy Bridgewater played fantastic. This game actually came down to the very end. With the game tied, Minnesota went to punt and the Dolphins blocked it out the back of the end zone for the game winning safety. Highly recommend watching the highlight reel if you haven’t already.

New England Patriots v Green Bay Packers

Green Bay Packers 20 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers 3: Someone needs to explain to me why Aaron Rodgers is considered good. Every time I watch him I see an average quarterback with an extraordinary team around him. Rodgers was awful in Buffalo, and despite the stats he was unable to complete passes on third down in Tampa. (This is part of my JJMVP plea, sorry).

chicago bears benched jay cutler for jimmy clausen bugle 2014 nfl season images

Detroit Lions 20 at Chicago Bears 14: Well the Bears may have benched Jay Cutler, but Jimmy Clausen isn’t exactly a starting caliber quarterback. The Lions should have won this game by a lot more, but they really aren’t that good themselves. Cutler is starting next week in what most Chicago fans hope will be his final game as a Bear.

Atlanta Falcons v New Orleans Saints

Atlanta Falcons 30 at New Orleans Saints 14: Well this one wasn’t pretty for most of the game. The Saints returned the opening kickoff to the one yard line to set up a Mark Ingram touchdown. That was it. The Saints couldn’t get anything done the rest of the day. The Falcons didn’t get much either, but more than the Saints. It’s very sad that the Falcons and Panthers play Sunday for the division.

new york jets vs new england patriots 2014 nfl season images

New England Patriots 17 at New York Jets 16: The Jets blew their chance with another blocked field goal attempt. Please notice that without Julian Edelman on the field Tom Brady couldn’t even get 200 yards. Brady sucks without his superstar receiving core at full power. But, even he’s not as bad as the Jets.

pittsburgh steelers beat kansas city chiefs sexy nfl 2014 images

Kansas City Chiefs 12 at Pittsburgh Steelers 20: The only reason the Steelers won this game is because they found the end zone whereas the Chiefs had to settle for a bunch of field goals. These two teams are pretty evenly matched. It’s a shame the Chiefs won’t be in the postseason this year.

johnny manzeil injured brian hoyer bringing cleveland browns down nfl 2014 season images

Cleveland Browns 13 at Carolina Panthers 17: Johnny Manziel started this game; however that didn’t last very long. An injury knocked him out, but Brian Hoyer of course wasn’t much better. Now they’re both hurt. The Browns season is over, so it doesn’t really matter; but it just shows that this quarterback issue is far from settled in Cleveland.

ravens joe flacco bulges up with jj watt houston texans 2014 nfl season images

Baltimore Ravens 13 at Houston Texans 25: The Baltimore offensive line had no answer for J.J. Watt. Although Watt did not have any sacks in this game, he had seven tackles. While being double and triple teamed. So basically he stopped every single run that went his way. I point this out as one of my final two pleas for J.J.MVP. He also drew a holding penalty and caused an intentional grounding that was nearly a safety.

new york giants take out st louis rams 2014 nfl season images

New York Giants 37 at St. Louis Rams 27: Odell Beckham Jr. has me seriously wondering if Calvin Johnson has been replaced as the best wide receiver in the NFL. This guy is just amazing. He’s unstoppable. Despite missing the first six games of the season, ODB has earned Rookie of the Year and a trip to Hawaii in my eyes. Unfortunately he probably won’t receive either due to his late start. The Giants are suddenly a force to be reckoned with. Not even the Seahawks could stop this guy.

oakland raiders beat buffalo bills 2014 nfl season images

Buffalo Bills 24 at Oakland Raiders 26: Congrats to the Raiders on their third win of the season. They really fight hard for what they’ve accomplished. This victory shows that the Raiders are really just a few talented players away from being a decent team, and that the Bills biggest problem is playing outside of Buffalo. The team that crushed Green Bay lost to the Raiders. What.

dallas cowboys cole beasley loses helmut beating out colts 2014 nfl season images

Indianapolis Colts 7 at Dallas Cowboys 42: Hopefully Indianapolis fans finally miss Peyton. Sure Luck is pretty good, but he’s not a superstar. The Colts have been overrated for a while now and the Cowboys just exposed them.

seattle seahawks dance at beating arizona cardinals 2014 nfl season images

Seattle Seahawks 35 at Arizona Cardinals 6: I’ll keep this one short. This game was pretty close until the fourth quarter. The Seahawks have proved to me that they are the best team in the NFL. It looks like we’re going to see the first repeat Super Bowl champs since the Patriots cheated for 2003 and 2004.

NFL 2014 Week 16 Hot Matchups: Johnny Manziel vs Luke Kuechly

johnny manziel injured by luke kuechly bulge nfl cry

With two weeks left for the non-playoff teams, fans need to enjoy seeing their team while it lasts. But for you Jaguars and Titans fans who don’t know what to watch for this Sunday, here’s a few things to look for:

luke kuechly carolina panthers takes down johnny manziel nfl 2014 images

Johnny Manziel vs. Luke Kuechly: Manziel is still the starting quarterback in Cleveland, and despite his performance last week this is certainly the right decision. Manziel will have his work cut out for him this week heading into Carolina to face a Panthers team desperate to win and stay alive in the NFC South race. Manziel has always been a throw on the run quarterback, and if the Panthers allow him to get comfortable moving around in and out of the pocket it’ll be a long day for them. This is where Luke Kuechly comes in. Kuechly is arguably the best linebacker in the NFL, and his ability to contain Manziel and force him to make quick decisions in the pocket will be key to pulling the upset over the Browns.

julio jones falcons jumping on keenan lewis new orleans saints nfl 2014 images

Keenan Lewis vs. Julio Jones and Roddy White: Keenan Lewis is the New Orleans Saints best active cornerback, so obviously he will be charged with covering Jones and White in turn. This game will more than likely determine the champion of the NFC South, so Lewis is certainly expected to be able to shut down which ever superstar receiver he is guarding at any given time. White and Jones have been known to explode for big games, and that is not something the Saints can afford to give up. The major problem is that Lewis can only guard one at a time. Matt Ryan would be smart to just go after the weaker cornerbacks lining up alongside Lewis.

seattle seahawks russell wilson takes on cardinals defense nfl 2014 images

Cardinals’ defense vs. Russell Wilson: The Cardinals are on their third string no-name quarterback, so they have no hope against the Seahawks, right? Not true. The Cardinals still have a great defensive presence and the Seahawks are not exactly known for their offensive prowess. The Seahawks offense is made up of Marshawn Lynch, Percy Harvin, and another runner in the backfield. No quarterback. Stopping Wilson’s arm is no problem, the big problem is containing him. This is easier said than done. If the Cardinals want to win this game they will need to capitalize off of the few passes Wilson does throw downfield. Wilson is not a good quarterback, so as long as no one is wide open the Cardinals should have a good chance to pick him off at least once. This will be a very low scoring game, but a red zone turnover or two forced by the Cardinals defense could turn a 13-7 loss into a 14-13 victory for the home team.

NFL 2014 Week 16 Preview: College Football Over So NFL Rules Networks

2014 nfl season previews week 15

College football is finally over, so the NFL gets to rule the entire weekend. Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday is now dedicated solely to NFL football. With five divisions up for grabs, it’s going to be a good week. Here’s Week 16:

Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins: The Eagles really missed their chance to put away the division last week by losing to the Cowboys at home, but fortunately for Philly fans the Redskins can’t beat anybody. Eagles win.

San Diego Chargers at San Francisco 49ers: It doesn’t look like either of these teams will be making the playoffs, and honestly both seem to have given up. Normally in situations like this, the home team gets the win. In this case, at least the Chargers won’t have a long trip home. 49ers win.

Minnesota Vikings at Miami Dolphins: The Vikings almost upset the Detroit Lions last week, whereas the Dolphins have been in a decline all season. Ryan Tannehill and Joe Philbin should have one more win in them before Philbin is most likely fired. Dolphins win.

Green Bay Packers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: After losing to the Bills last week, the Packers are desperately looking to bound back and win their division. Fortunately, they play the Bucs who aren’t really a threat to upset anybody. Packers win.

Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears: Jay Cutler has FINALLY been benched. Jimmy Clausen isn’t exactly a good quarterback by my standards (or many people’s for that matter), but literally anyone is better than Cutler. Either way the Bears are just a bad team. Lions win.

Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints: The winner of this game is pretty much guaranteed the coveted NFC South crown. The winner of the NFC South is no doubt on track to a Super Bowl victory. Lol, maybe not. Well either way the Saints are coming off a win and the Falcons are looking good, but against their biggest rivals in the Super Dome the Saints should finally get it done. Saints win.

New England Patriots at New York Jets: The Patriots will sure miss beating Rex Ryan, but there is nothing he would like to do more than go out with a victory over the Patriots. The Jets would have no problem if they were just playing Tom Brady, but Rob Gronkowski is too good. Patriots win.

Kansas City Chiefs at Pittsburgh Steelers: Here is another game where home field advantage is going to play a huge role. The Steelers and Chiefs are pretty even, but in front of their home crowd the Steelers have the edge in this one. Steelers win.

Cleveland Browns at Carolina Panthers: Johnny Manziel is still starting as far as I know, which I still stand by as the right decision. Unfortunately, Mike Pettine seems to be trying to screw the young man over (probably because Manziel is more famous than him). The Panthers are clinging to their division hopes, and at home that’s enough to win. Panthers win.

Baltimore Ravens at Houston Texans: I feel bad for J.J. Watt, Arian Foster, and Andre Johnson. Tom Savage is now the starting quarterback, the Texans wasted their first overall pick on a huge bust, and now they’re going to lose at home again, this time to the Ravens. Ravens win.

New York Giants at St. Louis Rams: Even though neither team is making the playoffs, Tom Coughlin and Jeff Fisher still have their teams fighting hard. This is another game where home field comes into play. Fisher and Coughlin should both be safe if football makes sense. Rams win.

Buffalo Bills at Oakland Raiders: The Bills look fantastic on defense, and they’re coming off a huge victory over the Packers. The Raiders are improving, but Derek Carr is still no good. Mario Williams and company should have some fun. Bills win.

Indianapolis Colts at Dallas Cowboys: Both teams are 10-4, but Dallas is the only team that has been earning impressive victories this season. The Cowboys beat Philadelphia, the Colts struggled against the Jaguars. Andrew Luck isn’t even close to Peyton Manning, let’s get that through your head, America. Cowboys win.

Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals: This game will decided the first seed in the NFC. The Cardinals are 11-3 right now, but with Ryan Lindley starting they aren’t exactly earning the respect of their peers in the NFL. The Cardinals now have to rely on their defense, which is pretty strong. The Seahawks of course are relying on their defense as always. Russell Wilson and Lindley are pretty much the same, except Wilson can run and has a better defense. Well, here’s the biggest win of the year in the NFC West: the Cardinals rally around each other to upset the Seahawks. Cardinals win.

Denver Broncos at Cincinnati Bengals: Two teams in the AFC are for real, and the Denver Broncos are one of them. The Bengals are not by any means. The Bengals don’t have the offense to hang with most teams in the NFL. Peyton Manning is starting to get the running game going in Denver, and he looked great while sick so if he’s healthy this week the Bengals have no chance. Broncos win.

Peyton Manning’s Rhythm Method Off According To Kurt Warner

Kurt Warner believes Peyton Manning’s recent struggles are due to a rhythm issue. The team is determined to run the ball more so Warner thinks this is putting Peyton in a weird spot. His freedom to change the play at the line is a bit more limited as the Broncos try to put some toughness in their offense with a running game. The playoffs will reveal if this is a good plan for the Broncos or not.

The team did well most of the year as has always been the case with a Manning led team. The regular season has never been an issue. The playoffs are where the guy has seen his struggles come to light. Maybe a bigger dedication to the rushing game will help the guy in a team effort. But he certainly can’t throw four interceptions like he did against the Bengals last week on Monday Night Football. A 200 yard rusher won’t overcome that kind of turnover debacle by the quarterback.

There is little doubt that Manning can still beat teams with his arm and will likely have to do so at least once during the post season. A team can’t hide behind a running game alone anymore. This is not 1998. But even the regular season contests against the best teams have shown the Broncos are not quite good enough this year. With losses to Seattle and New England, it is obvious that they need to do more to get back to the Super Bowl and actually win it.

Some of Peyton Manning’s best games have come after getting way behind and bringing his team back from the jaws of defeat. He’s done it in the regular season more times than I can count. His greatest comeback was against the Patriots in the AFC Title Game in 2006

The guy can throw with the best of them and his struggles the past few weeks are not from him aging ten years overnight. He is likely banged up a bit from a long season, but he is still the same guy he has always been, with a slightly weaker arm admittedly. If he can avoid the costly interceptions though, Denver should be fine with the new running game they have found. Will they be good enough to beat the Patriots in Foxboro? They better find another gear for that. The Patriots are on fire and already whipped them once.

Peyton is considered to be one of the best QBs of all time and I would certainly put him in the top ten. But the best of the best work with what they have. John Elway had to bend to a system that featured the running game with Terrell Davis. His greatness wasn’t diminished by Denver’s running game at the time. It was enhanced as he made the plays when needed and let Davis do his thing. If Peyton follows the same blueprint that Elway did, perhaps he can get another Super Bowl Trophy. A rushing game is a good thing. Ask any QB who is more concerned with wins than stats.

I know Manning is a control freak, but he needs help to get back to the big game. His backs are playing at a high level. He just needs to flow with the game plan now. We all know how good the guy is. He has nothing to prove in the stat department. He needs another Super Bowl win to cement his legacy, however. A big-time rushing game is in place to help him along.

2014 NFL Week 15 Recap: Ryan Lindley Takes Out the Rams, Johnny Manziel Big Debate

With only two weeks left in the NFL regular season, it is time to put up or shut up. There are a few teams that shut up weeks ago. Those teams only have to worry about their draft position in the next couple of weeks. No playoff run is in store for teams like the Raiders, Jets, or Jags. For the teams that are left in the hunt, things are going to get messy as some teams are limping to the finish line and others are peaking.

arizona cardinals beat st louis rams nfl images 2014

This past week saw Arizona beat a good Rams team 12-6 and they had to do it with third string QB Ryan Lindley. I couldn’t tell you the first thing about Lindley, except that his initials are J.L. This was not a sexy game offensively, but featured two very good defenses. Arizona needs to win next week over Seattle to stay in line for home field advantage in the NFC side of things. I wouldn’t put much money on that, given the QB match up in that game.

atlanta falcons lose to pittsburgh steelers nfl images 2014

Atlanta just couldn’t hold on to the NFC South lead for long. They lost to the Steelers and are now third in their division, trailing the Panthers and the Saints. The Steelers got out to a good lead only to see the Falcons come back on them the same way they did versus the Packers a couple weeks ago. The final was 27-20 with Atlanta just not having enough firepower on offense to win the must have games. Their defense was even OK in this game, but to no avail.

new england patriots trounce miami dolphins nfl images 2014

The Patriots will win their division once again this year. That is no shocker of course. They trounced Miami 41-13 and brought the Dolphins back to the reality of the situation……the Pats own them when it counts. New England only needs to win their final two games versus Buffalo and the Jets to secure home field advantage throughout the AFC post season. That seems like a gimme, but Rex Ryan would like nothing better than to wreck those plans on his way out of New York. Buffalo could give them a game as well.

houston texans lose against indianapolis colts nfl 2014 images

Here’s the deal with Houston. They are a decent team with the best defensive player in the NFL and they are just not good enough to beat the upper echelon of teams. The Colts got them again. This time the final was 17-10 in a lower scoring game that was better suited to the Texans. They have to draft a quarterback this year, but are unlikely to get a franchise guy as they have a .500 record which equals a mid round pick. The Colts are a dangerous team right now and could knock off any of the big boys in the AFC on the right day.

bengals sack johnny manziel in cleveland browns upset nfl images

Johnny Manziel fans got their wish as the former A&M star got the start for the Browns this past week. The Browns made the desperate move in hopes of clinging to playoff hopes. However it went much worse than they hoped. It was a train wreck actually. The Bengals defense mocked ole J-Football on their way to a 30-0 beating of Cleveland. Does this mean the kid is no good? That will be the theme for ESPN talking heads this week I am sure. But it was one game. He will have to be evaluated over a long stretch of games to know if he has the goods. Hoyer did a nice job for the team, but it sounds like he will not be leaned on any longer after this season.

buffalo bills beat green bay packers aaron rodgers nfl images 2014

The Buffalo and Green Bay contest proved the old cliché that any given Sunday any team can win a game. The Pack has looked dominant for several weeks in a row and should have taken care of Buffalo easily. But that is why they bother to play the games I guess. Aaron Rodgers had his worst game ever as a Packer. Mr. Discount Doublecheck was 17 of 42. I don’t know if he had a late night with Olivia Munn, which led to his dismal performance or not. If so, I’m sure it was worth it.

panthers take out buccaneers nfl images 2014

The Panthers beat the Bucs 19-17 with Derek Anderson filling in for Cam Newton. Anderson had a good game for a backup, throwing for 277 yards and a touchdown. Newton was out after surviving a nasty car wreck last week. Newton said he was “lucky to be alive, and he must be on God’s fantasy team.” I’m sure the big Man was looking out for the son of a preacher man, but I am positive Newton was not on anyone’s fantasy team.

denver broncos beat chargers nfl 2014 images

Denver beat the Chargers 22-10 by once again leaning on the running attack. The Chargers are just not going to be a factor at the end. Same old story for San Diego fans. Hot start. Cold finish. It seems like Manning’s slight struggles of late would hinder Denver’s chances in the post season. That’s logical, but maybe the new found running game will only make them more well rounded.

detroit lions beat minnesota vikings nfl 2014 images

Detroit kept pace with the best in the NFC with a win over Minnesota 16-14. The Lions were down 14-0, then rallied to score 16 unanswered points against a Vikings team with few answers without Adrian Peterson. Detroit has quietly been near the top of the NFL all year. They have not received much attention despite being just one game away from home field advantage in the playoffs. That is not out of the realm of possibilities just yet.

seattle seahawks kills san francisco 49ers nfl 2014 images

Seattle took care of business against San Francisco for the second time in three weeks. It was 17-10 this time around. Seattle has been methodical in their march back to the top of the NFC. Russell Wilson could be the MVP. I don’t think their is another player who has meant more to his team, not even Aaron Rodgers who has the best stats of any QB.

dallas cowboys beat out philadelphia eagles nfl 2014 images

Dallas got back at Philadelphia 38-27 after the Eagles clipped the Boys on Thanksgiving. Dallas suffered a big injury despite the victory. Their war horse, DeMarco Murray injured his left hand and needed surgery to repair it. It is possible that the NFL’s leading rusher could make it back as soon as this week to play against the Colts. The Eagles relinquished control of the division with this loss.

new orleans saints carve up chicago bears nfl 2014 images

The Saints carved up the Bears 31-15 in a game that only one crew came to play. Chicago is just ready to get this thing over with and move on to vacation mode. The Saints are now in control of their division after Atlanta’s loss to Pittsburgh. New Orleans has a chance to win their division as their destiny is in their own hands now.

Josh Gordon’s NFL Career On Life Support

josh gordon nfl career on life support

If there was a 911 call center for NFLers with career emergencies, then Josh Gordon would need to hit those three digits. The Cleveland wide out is in need of some professional help. He was suspended for the final game of the season for missing a walk through on Saturday. I don’t know how much it takes for a player to see how irresponsible he is being. Missing the better half of the year already didn’t make the point it seems.

A hypothetical 911 center would be great for this type of knuckle headed stuff. I would even volunteer for a few calls myself. I could field a call from Josh Gordon and not charge for my time. I am guessing he would take me on full time after the call as some kind of personal life coach. That’s when I would make some cash off the guy. He would benefit too of course with all the awesome advice I would have to offer. In about six months I think I would have the guy at the top of his game and the Browns would be climbing across the table to sign him to a long term deal.

What kind of advice could I give this grown man to change his life? Well it wouldn’t be too complicated. I would first tell him to stop acting like a petulant child. This would be a phone call mind you, so no danger of me getting punched in the neck by a professional athlete. I would tell the guy that he gets paid very well for what he does and shouldn’t expect that pay to continue if he doesn’t produce for his team. I would not use the clichéd points about the average guy would get fired if he was acting like you. That wouldn’t hit home, because the average guy at a nine to five job can be easily replaced. Josh Gordon knows he cannot. Not yet anyway.

I would remind him that eventually he could be replaced if he does not start acting like a professional. A professional knows his craft and tries to perfect it. Thus he benefits from his ability and his craft benefits from him in the form of wins for his franchise. Using plenty of foul language would be a key for me in this conversation with Josh Gordon. Again, not a face to face talk here, so no danger to me at all.

My main points to Gordon would come in the form of a list of guys who have squandered their talent in the NFL. I could pick from a few who never really made it big and toss in names that were superstars for a short time but still didn’t get to the level they should have. I would make it clear that he is nothing special if he is not on the field. He is a nobody if he is suspended. He has to be actively playing on the football field to be important. There are plenty of muscled up guys with speed working for UPS. He can only shine and move toward bigger contracts if he is running routes.

I believe I could be the savior for guys like Josh Gordon. He needs a stern talking to indeed. I am sure he has a pile of yes-men around him. That kind of feedback just makes him worse. He needs a dose of reality and I would be the perfect messenger. The guy is a helluva receiver, but won’t get a free pass forever. His window to produce is small in the NFL. He best realize how short his time is and get his ass on track. To get the best money for his time playing football, his team has to get results from him. That will never happen as long as he keeps getting run off the field due to his own actions.

Be a pro Josh Gordon. Or risk being just a nobody very soon.

NFL 2014 Week 15 Recap: Johnny Manziel’s Debut Gets Squashed By Bengals

johnny manziel out from bengals buffalo bills nfl game 2014 images

Never an ordinary week in the NFL, especially this late in the season. The Buffalo Bills pulled a big upset, and the Bengals absolutely ruined Johnny Manziel’s debut. With only two weeks left and five divisions still up for grabs, things are just starting to get good. Here’s a recap of Week 15:

kansas city chiefs beat oakland raiders 2014 nfl images

Oakland Raiders 13 at Kansas City Chiefs 31: The Chiefs kept themselves alive in the playoff race, but it wasn’t a very impressive victory despite the final score. At halftime, the score was just 10-3. The Chiefs really weren’t able to anything until the Raiders started really shooting themselves in the foot. Derek Carr was terrible finishing 27 of 56 for 222 yards and a touchdown. The Raiders actually may have had a chance if Carr performed well.

Jacksonville Jaguars 12 at Baltimore Ravens 20: the Ravens really didn’t show up for this game. The Jaguars probably could have won if they weren’t the Jaguars. The Ravens struggled on offense; and Joe Flacco finished with only 221 yards—a poor performance considering his career-best season. Fortunately for the Ravens, Blake Bortles sucks. 21 of 37 for 210 yards and an interception will not win games in the NFL.

Pittsburgh Steelers 27 at Atlanta Falcons 20: Atlanta was in a good position to pull off the upset, but Ben Roethlisberger wasn’t about to let that happen. Big Ben finished 27 of 35 for 360 yards, absolutely crushing the Falcons secondary with safety William Moore out. The Falcons were definitely prepared for Le’Veon Bell, holding him to 47 yards on 20 carries. Unfortunately, the Falcons had no answers for Bell in the red zone, giving up two touchdowns to the back.

Houston Texans 10 at Indianapolis Colts 17: The Colts got off to a slow start once again, and Andrew Luck threw another early pick six. Ryan Fitzpatrick went down in the first half, so the Texans (already without Andre Johnson) had no chance with a 3rd string quarterback. J.J. Watt was fantastic once again. Two sacks, a batted pass, a holding penalty, and multiple run stops.

Cincinnati Bengals 30 at Cleveland Browns 0: Well the Bengals sure spoiled Johnny Manziel’s first NFL start. Manziel looked great against a tough Bills defense, but the Bengals made him look like he didn’t belong in the NFL. Andy Dalton didn’t do much either, but that’s not a surprise. Manziel was not helped much by his coach (who almost seemed to be trying to screw him over), but Johnny Football will need to step up his game in the future.

Miami Dolphins 13 at New England Patriots 41: Rob Gronkowski once again couldn’t be stopped by anyone by Tom Brady. Brady missed Gronk early in the game, but by halftime he was throwing it close enough that the big tight end could finally snag it. Gronk had 96 yards on only three receptions. Ryan Tannehill did all right against the best defense in the league, but not nearly as much as Gronk.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17 at Carolina Panthers 19: Well, at 2-12 it looks like the Bucs have finally been eliminated from the playoffs in the weak NFC South. Derek Anderson had a solid game without Cam Newton able to play, but the Bucs did put up a good performance for…well…the Bucs.

Washington Redskins 13 at New York Giants 24: This game got really interesting right before halftime. Robert Griffin III appeared to have a rushing touchdown, but upon review he fumbled the ball before crossing the goal line resulting in a touchback for the Giants. Santana Moss was so pissed heading into the locker room that he got ejected for getting in the ref’s face. The Giants then got to kick off from the Redskins 35 yard line (essentially a free onside kick). The Giants recovered, and the rest is history.

Green Bay Packers 13 at Buffalo Bills 21: Hopefully now people will realize that Aaron Rodgers is in no way deserving of MVP or all the praise he receives. Rodgers was absolutely atrocious going 17-of-42 for 185 yards and two interceptions. That’s about as bad as it gets. The last six quarters of football have not been good for the Packers.

Minnesota Vikings 14 at Detroit Lions 16: The Lions really blew this one even though they won. Matthew Stafford had really poor numbers, and Calvin Johnson was way under his average (although he did still have 53 yards). The only thing the Lions did well was the game winning drive to set up a field goal.

New York Jets 16 at Tennessee Titans 11: With this win it looks like the Jets are no longer in contention for the first overall pick. I’m not going to say much about this game because who really cares, but Rex Ryan has certainly been able to keep the team motivated which is very impressive.

Denver Broncos 22 at San Diego Chargers 10: Peyton Manning actually missed a little bit of time in this game at the end of the first half. Seeing what the team did with Brock Osweiler (absolutely nothing), it’s obvious that the Broncos can only go as far as Peyton brings them. The defense continued to screw up after a good offensive performance, but all-in-all it was a good outing.

San Francisco 49ers 7 at Seattle Seahawks 17: Colin Kaepernick started the game well, but that was it. An early touchdown is not enough to beat the defending champs. If Seattle wins out they will be the first seed in the NFC which means another trip to the Super Bowl. This was also the last (at least the last foreseeable) matchup between Pete Carroll and Jim Harbaugh, and boy was it a great rivalry.

Dallas Cowboys 38 at Philadelphia Eagles 27: The Cowboys looked great in this game. It’s amazing what capitalizing on turnovers does for a team. Tony Romo did pretty well: 265 yards and three touchdowns. Romo did have a lost fumble as well as a near pick; however, in the end the Cowboys were able to hold on and succeed.

New Orleans Saints 31 at Chicago Bears 15: Phil Emery needs to be fired. Signing Jay Cutler to a $120 million contract is possibly one of the worst decisions in NFL history. This man is not a quarterback, nor has he done anything to earn the money. Cutler couldn’t muster more than 8 points before garbage time against one of the worst defenses in the NFL.

SURVIVOR SAN JUAN DEL SUR Episode 13: Natalie Creates Blindside Magic With Jon Misch

On this week’s Survivor, after Alec being voted off last week, there are six survivors remaining. Discussions centered on Alec having been voted off when some of the remaining survivors had other plans to eliminate Keith instead. The castaways started to figure out that Natalie switched her vote at the last minute in an effort to get rid of Alec. This angered them because they felt Keith was a bigger threat to them than Alec was. Natalie told Keith that she and Baylor were protecting Keith from elimination.

For this week’s Reward Challenge Jeff announced that the survivors would be divided into two teams. Once divided team members would be tied together to complete a race through a tunnel created from hay. Along the way, the survivors needed to get past hitching posts to a pool. They were to untie a bucket and fill it with water before walking up a large teeter totter while carrying the bucket of water. The water then had to be poured into a bucket that was larger than the one they were carrying. Upon filling the bucket a gate was lowered and the two teams had to race to be the first to put together a plank puzzle correctly.

Jeff then announced that the winning team would be sent to Survivor’s version of a spa. They were promised that everyone on the winning team would be able to take a shower for half an hour followed by a massage. They would then be given food to eat such as seared steaks, brownies, and cookies, provided by the spa.

The survivors were then divided into the blue team and the yellow team. The blue team consisted of Keith, Missy, and Jon. The yellow team consisted of Natalie, Baylor and Jaclyn. At one point during the race Missy stumbled and hurt her ankle right before having to climb the teeter totter. Keith, Missy and Jon ended up winning the Reward Challenge. Jaclyn then expressed her displeasure that Jon was going to get to enjoy the rewards and she was not. He angrily fired back that maybe he wasn’t going to go to the spa. Jon then announced he was giving his spot at the spa to Baylor. He said that by sending Baylor in his place she and Missy, as daughter and mother, would never forget the experience of being able to relax at this spa together.

Keith, Missy and Baylor were then asked to decide who they were sending to Exile Island. They chose Natalie, who happily went without question. This resulted in Jon and Jaclyn heading back to the camp together. When Keith, Missy, and Baylor got to the spa they enjoyed some refreshing drinks while taking in the sight of real food. Baylor stated that she and Natalie were determined to get Jon voted off. Keith then offered to look at Missy’s ankle. Missy stated that for the next couple of days she was determined to keep up with the game even if she had to resort to crawling.

Back at camp Jon and Jaclyn discussed how Natalie screwed everything up by voting Alec off instead of Keith. Jon stated that this was a bad mistake on Natalie’s part because it kept Keith in the competition and he was a threat to the other survivors. Jaclyn stated that if Keith continued to remain safe in the competition it would become more obvious what a huge mistake Natalie made.
While on Exile Island, Natalie got emotional about the fact that her sister Nadiya had been voted off the island in the beginning of the season. She said that she wanted to try to use her sister’s elimination as motivation to keep her going in the competition rather than letting it bring her down.

When Keith, Missy, and Baylor arrived at the site of the elimination challenge the next day, Natalie returned from Exile Island as well to find that Missy and Baylor had saved some rice from the previous day’s spa experience. When they gave her the rice Natalie was brought to tears. Missy stated that though her ankle hurt very badly she was still determined to stay in the competition. Jeff then told Missy that she needed to let the medical team examine her ankle. The medical team told her she might have fractured it. It was decided that her ankle could be immobilized because the competition was going to be over in a few days.

To rest her ankle Missy opted out of the Immunity Challenge for this week. Jon was forced to give back the Immunity necklace he had won last week. The Immunity Challenge was for each survivor to hold onto a handle and balance themselves on a teeter-totter holding a cone. Once the cone hits the ground the survivor who dropped it is out of the challenge. Jaclyn was the first one to watch her cone hit the ground. Baylor was then eliminated from the challenge. A sudden gust of wind got the best of Keith and he was the next one to drop his cone, followed by Jon. This left Natalie as the winner of the individual immunity for the week.

The remaining survivors were sent back to camp to await that night’s tribal council. Jon Jaclyn and Natalie discussed voting Keith out that night. Natalie told Keith that the voting that night would be split in half and made Keith believe the plan was to vote Jon out. Baylor said she needed to get Missy on board to vote Jon out but she was concerned because Missy has been treating Jon like a son. Missy then told Baylor she couldn’t that she couldn’t bring herself to vote Jon off.

After the voting was completed at the tribal council Jeff announced that with a three-way tie among Jon, Jaclyn and Keith the remaining survivors would have to vote again. Jeff then tallied up the re-votes an announced that Jon was eliminated.

TOP CHEF: BOSTON Episode 8 Recap: Adam & Katie Out & George Back In the Game

top chef boston episode 8 clean up cut constestants

This week on Top Chef the competition is down to only seven cheftestants. After Carrie Ann’s loss last week and Doug’s win during Restaurant Wars, this week brings more intriguing action straight from the Top Chef house and kitchen.

The chef’s sudden death quickfire challenge for the week was judged by Jasper White. Cheftestants were tasked with creating their own chowder. White wrote a cookbook on chowder recipes, turning up the pressure on this quickfire. Mae and Adam agreed to share a bucket of clams in order to complete their recipes. Steamer clams were all that Mae had left after the other cheftestants took a good portion of her bucket of clams.

Gregory chose to make clams inspired by Japanese flavors and methods of cooking. His coconut curry soup recipe was one he felt confident in. Adam stated that as the only New Yorker left in the competition he wanted to be the one to nail a chowder recipe. Mae made her dish using Thai flavors and styles of cooking. Katsuji made a Mexican inspired chowder dish. Upon running out of time the chefs were tasked with presenting their dishes to Padma and Jasper White. Padma asked Katsuji if he works with oysters a lot and he admitted that he does not.

Jasper White announced that Adam made one of his favorite dishes and that Melissa’s was delicious as well. He then chose Gregory’s as his favorite, giving Gregory immunity in this week’s elimination challenge. This week marked the third time that Gregory has won the quickfire challenge. White stated Doug’s chowder was too salty and shouldn’t have used oysters. He also complained about Katsuji’s sauce and said he couldn’t even taste the oyster. Katie was also criticized for using sour dough in her dish and lost the challenge as a result.

To turn up the heat on the competition all the chefs eliminated so far this season were brought back into the kitchen. The chefs who were eliminated had the decision of choosing one chef still in the competition for Katie to go up against. George was pit against Katie for another chance to re -enter this season’s Top Chef competition.

The next challenge was for the chefs to create their own dishes using rabbit. George stated that he knows nothing about Katie and didn’t care to, as he just wanted back into the competition. George struggled to get his rabbit legs cooked correctly and made the decision to quickly cook the loins. Katie expressed concern that her rabbit legs would be undercooked and that would end up sending her home. Jasper declared George’s dish the best. Tom told George his rabbit was cooked perfectly and it would have his vote. This allowed George to officially re -enter the Top Chef competition. Katie was then told that she had been eliminated. It was then announced that Last Chance Kitchen was returning to this season’s competition.

In a twist no one expected, for the first time in Top Chef history Gail and Richard Blais were brought in and Padma announced the chefs would be catering an event where Boston locals and Top Chef fans could sample the contestant’s dishes. Chefs were then tasked with creating a dish that would feed 75 people.

Padma announced that she, Tom, Gail and Richard Blais would be the ones doing the shopping for this challenge. Chefs weren’t privy to the ingredients at their disposal until they arrived for the challenge. Each chef had to draw a knife to determine if they would be cooking with the ingredients purchased by Tom, Padma, Gail or Richard.

Tom, Gail and Padma headed straight for the vegetables and took their time shopping even though they only had a half an hour in which to shop. Gail admitted she was shopping based on what she wanted to eat not based on what the chefs she was shopping for would want. Richard said he was buying protein and vegetables because he wanted to help the chefs cooking with his ingredients succeed in the competition. In a brilliant move, Padma knocked over a display of fish in the grocery store.

Back at the Top Chef house the cheftestants discussed how frustrated they were that George was back in the competition. Adam stated he never doubted George and that he was familiar with George’s restaurant. George said he felt uncomfortable in the house because the chefs living there have developed relationships from living together. He also stated that he wanted to win the competition to make his father proud and prove to his family that he could win Top Chef. Adam then confessed that he was a bad student until he found a passion in creating dishes and that he believed he could win the competition.

In 2 1/2 hours the chefs had to complete their dishes using the ingredients the judges purchased. Adam felt like the ingredients he had access to, were not ingredients that he could use to create a Top Chef, quality dish. Doug said that he was struggling when it came to preparing his dish. Doug said that Katsuji’s dish was as crazy as he is but that he was proud of Katsuji for coming up with the idea to create a shrimp dish with sangria on the side.

Tom, Padma, Gail and Richard then discussed what they thought of the dishes prepared by the chefs. They said that Mae’s dish was not flavorful but was slimy and undercooked. Richard stated that he did not like Adam’s technique in preparing his dish.

The chefs discussed their dishes while waiting for the judges to make their decision. Once all the chefs were standing in front of the judges Padma called out the top three chefs that had their favorite dishes. George, Gregory and Doug received praise from Padma and Tom. Gail announced that Doug had prepared the best dish. Padma then announced that Adam was the cheftestant being eliminated for this week.
