Will 4K TV’s Go Mainstream In 2015?

4K TV, also known as Ultra HD (high definition), is a concept that began in the end of 2012 but it is only now that it has become a concept that is growing in terms of recognition. The basic definition of 4K TV is that it beats all other flat screen display resolutions, by offering a groundbreaking resolution of 4,000 pixels. That is four times than your clear, vivid 1080p HDTV. There is no denying that the concept is impressive, and to watch movies and other videos on such a display would be a splendid experience but the question remains whether or not 4K TV will make it big.

4K TV viewing is like watching TV in 3D, minus the part where you have to wear glasses and the like. Images seem to pop out for the viewers so there is a vast similarity between 4K TVs and 3D TVs. However, we all saw that the trend of 3D TV, while being widely renowned and recognized, never jumped on the mainstream bandwagon. This is probably because while 60% of TV viewers have chosen HD TV, they simply are not willing to pay so much for 3D experience, neither are all the networks and advertisers promoting full 3D content. Like 3D TVs, 4K Ultra HD TVs are also on the expensive line, for the consumers as well as networks/advertisers. Starting price is around $2,000 and it is easy to see why not many of the TV consumers would be willing to spend so much, no matter how incredible the experience.

Despite the price, there are still many, especially those of elite class, who turned to 4K technology immediately. As of 2014, Samsung and Sony were the main rivals for Ultra HD TVs and the battle rages on still. The rivalry, however, seems a little far fetched, considering most of the population of the US is not adapting towards 4K TV anyway. Had this trend been an immediate success with a high rate of people looking to purchase them, the rivalry would have been justified but fact remains that the trend is still not mainstream or even close to mainstream.

As far as predictions go, 4K TV is a concept with potential – much like 3D was. For 4K to hit the mainstream market, there are a few factors that need to be scrutinized such as the price, customer rate, and network adoption. Network adoption refers to content made for 4K, which is a hurdle as this is an expensive investment for advertisers and network channels. Surprisingly enough, many of the networks and advertisers still have not produced and distributed HD content introduced way back in 2009, so it is difficult to imagine them all suddenly adopting 4K. The TV industry is connected by many aspects and it is not easy to change. Technology advances every day and consumers find it hard to stay up to date to it let alone having big networks stay up to date with the TV industry, so the ultimate conclusion seems to be that no, 4K TV will not go mainstream. Not anytime soon, anyway. Only when all networks/advertisers and consumers have completely turned to HD TV will they even start to think about further advancing to 4K TV.

Editor’s Note: Far from being in the ‘elite class’, we have already adopted 4K TV’s in our offices and for those that truly love great theater-quality, these are very worth it, especially as prices are dropping rather quickly this year. Be warned, that if you’re looking to move up to 4K or UHD, do your research as most of the electronics companies are cranking them out, but they are not all the same. Sony and Samsung are miles ahead with keeping the tv’s updated (including the all-important firmware), and these are worth paying a little extra for as they will last much longer than most of them.  For some reason Sony has discontinued their A lines from the 4K which had passive 3D technology so if you hate those bigger glasses with the opening and closing lenses, that’s something to keep in mind. Top 5 Most Underrated UFC Fighters

 

With the ever growing appetite for mixed martial arts (MMA), fans are turning in more than ever to watch two modern day gladiators duke it out for supremacy in the octagon.  More fans means greater audiences for the fighters to prove their worth, and so we have seen a great increase in popularity of many of the stars of the UFC.  From current champions to popular overseas stars, more than ever have fans turned out to see their favourite fighter leave it all in the cage. Below is my personal list of UFC fighters who could easily be considered underrated throughout their career.

For a former champion to be considered underrated may seem to be a somewhat strange statement, but hear me out on this one. When Frankie Edgar was booked to take on the great BJ Penn for a shot at the UFC lightweight championship, not many gave the New Jersey Slugger much of a chance.

Touted as too small for the division and without a ‘killer instant’ – he only had two finishes under the UFC at the time- Edgar didn’t let all the doubters holding back and in one of the most surprising results in lightweight history, with a decisive victory over the future hall of famer. Not only did he defeat who many seen as one of the pound for pound greats, but done so in such a manner that made Penn look distinctively average.

The resulting rematch proved that it was no fluke.
Despite eventually losing the belt, in a very close decision, Edgar has looked championship material over the past four years, dropping two close decision fights against Benson Henderson, then an even closer decision against Featherweight champion Jose Aldo.

With some of the best boxing in the sport, Edgar’s movement and intelligence can only be measured next to his massive heart and will to win. Sure he may not knock heads off in spectacular fashion as some do, but the fact he has been involved in seven championship bouts, and is still in his prime, shows that Frankie is far from done on his already spectacular career. The fact he now fights in a division where is smaller stature isn’t under scrutiny may see more plaudits flying his way.

Fighting in a division that was dominated by one man for nigh on 7 years is no easy task. But the UFCs welterweight division was deemed stagnant and without any true challengers for 175 kingpin Georges St Pierre. One man managed to challenge that, that man was the always dangerous Carlos Condit.

After a spree of fights that included first minute flying knee knockouts and last round comebacks, Condit came face to face with Stockton slugger Nick Diaz for an interim title shot and eventual shot at GSP. He duly obliges and won a hard fought effort, in which his intelligence as a fighter was made apparent.

His encounter with GSP was what got him in the headlines, as he was the first man in close to seven years to making the Canadian look human, almost securing a spectacular head kick knockout. Despite going on to lose the match due to the superior wrestle of the champ, he proved he was one of the most dangerous fighters in the division. Whilst not a household name, Condit is a definite fan favourite with lethal striking and a killer instant to go with, if he can work on his takedown defence, we could see a future welterweight champion.

At forty years of age and with a frame that makes you think he’s in the wrong sport, the Super Samoan Mark Hunt is a story every UFC fan appreciates. After the closure of Pride FC Mark Hunt was given the opportunity to take a pay out on his remaining contract that was transferred over to the UFC after its purchase of the Japanese promotion. Deciding to earn his money, the Super Samoan chose to stick it out and bang first with the best heavyweight that the division had to offer.

A definite striking based fighter, the former kick boxer lost his first fight in the UFC to submission, as many of his previous defeats did. Glancing at his record you would see a man with more loses than wins, and nearing forty, you be forgiven for thinking you wouldn’t be hearing from the New Zealand native any time soon.

However, a string of violent knockouts has cemented his place in one of the hardest divisions in the UFC, as well as showcasing his greatly improved ground game, showing that despite questions over age, weight, professional record (9 wins to 8 losses) you can have great success at the highest levels.

More of a part time fighter these days due to his numerous roles in action films, Cung Le’s fighting skills can be best described as straight out of a film. Never in a boring fight, Le has a background in Tae Kwon Do and kick boxing that has provided fans with some of the flashiest (yet technically sound) kicks you are likely to see in the sport.

Fighting mostly in other organisations, and with only eleven fights under his belt at the tender age of 42, many have not had much of a chance to see Vietnamese-American in action. A now successful actor, Le still fights on occasion in the UFC, giving more fans a chance to see what he is truly capable of.

Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson is a current world champion and undefeated at flyweight, the newest addition to the UFC’s weight classes. A relatively new division has seen an under appreciation for the smaller fighters at 125 pounds. Despite having all the skillsets of their heavier counterparts, as well as unrivalled speed, this new division shows its infancy with a lack of depth and star talent beyond the top 10.

Perhaps this is why not many have seen the greatness in the making of the champion as he has simply ran through an already thin divison. Some may view it as not as competitive as other weight classes, but Johnsons is a definite contender in the pound for pound rankings.

The scary thing is he is continuing to grow as a fighter, with a solid wrestling base (a must in MMA)  as well as possibly the fastest footwork, and ever improving hands (ask Joe Benavidez). He may not be a tall imposing figure, standing at a modest 5 ft 3 in, but in terms of outright talent, he up there with the elite of the sport, just not many people have noticed it yet.

So many things can determine why some UFC fighters are more underrated than others, but one thing is for sure, that as long as two fighters are willing to leave everything in the octagon for our entertainment and pleasure, they will unquestionably find themselves with a few admirers.

2014 saw a lot of mayhem inside the Octagon and a bit of chaos outside of it as well thanks to the Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier brawl. Like each and every year careers were made and some faded into the abyss. The fight game is not for folks seeking a twenty year career. Father time is undefeated so fighters have to make the most of their small windows of opportunity.

2014 had its share of fighters showing dominance in the UFC. These are the top fighters of the past year. Take note as they could disappear as fast as they came on the scene.

  1. Dominick Cruz – Coming back after a near three year layoff from fighting is basically impossible. But Cruz is not your average fighter. He beat Takeya Mizugaki easily and will get a shot at becoming a champion once again in 2015.

TOTAL DIVAS Season 3 Ep 12 Recap: Eva Marie Baby Talk With Jonathan

This week on Total Divas the show opened with Eva Marie and Naomi visiting Eva Marie’s hometown to see a fertility doctor. Eva Marie got married recently and her husband, Jonathan, wants children but she may not be able to sustain a pregnancy.

Nikki and Brie then met with a merchandiser to establish their own line of merchandise. Brie complained that Nikki was asking the merchandisers if they would ever go behind their sister’s back and try to sabotage their relationship, angering Brie and leading her to accuse Nikki of acting unprofessional.

Alicia Fox debuted as the newest member of the Total Divas cast and came clean that she is an honest person that is fun to be around. She also spoke of how she is getting more TV time on WWE’s flagship show, Monday Night RAW.

Eva Marie then confessed that not only does her new husband not know she can’t have a baby he doesn’t know she doesn’t want a child because she is scared to be pregnant. She also said that since she and her husband are just starting their careers that is another reason she is not ready to have a child. Rosa Mendes then announced that she has 25,000 more Twitter followers than she had had the previous day. Alicia Fox and Rosa Mendes then discussed having a wrestling match together. Rosa said that she was worried that a wardrobe malfunction would be the only reason she would be gaining popularity with WWE fans.

Naomi told Brie that Naomi was going to kick Nikki’s ass in their match that night and Nikki said that she deserves to have her ass kicked. Nikki then told Brie she is a backstabbing b*tch. Brie confessed she thought she ruined her relationship with her sister.

Brie talked to John Cena backstage about getting Nikki to forgive her for interfering in Nikki’s relationship with John. He told Brie to give Nikki some space and time to let her anger die down over the whole situation.

Alicia Fox and Rosa Mendes then tried to practice staging a wardrobe malfunction in their hotel room in hopes of gaining more social media followers. Rosa Mendes then said that doing this was a bad idea because it might get them fired from the WWE. Alicia Fox also talked about the fact that the other WWE divas don’t seem to like her. She then confessed that for the first three years she was with the company she threw up prior to every match she wrestled because she was so nervous.

Jonathan and Eva Marie then discussed the fact that if she can’t have children they can adopt them. Eva Marie stressed again that Jonathan doesn’t know her real feelings about having children.

Brie then visited her mother and brother at home and talked about the trouble she is having with Nikki. Their mother then called Nikki to touch base with her and Nikki said she felt like she needed distance from the family. Her mother tried to reason with her to no avail. She defended the family by saying they just want what is best for Nikki.

Naomi and Eva Marie showed up at her fertility doctor’s office to find out if she is fertile or not. She was told her reproductive hormones and eggs are good, so she will be able to have children. Eva Marie confessed that this was a bittersweet revelation.

WWE officials called Rosa Mendes out on trying to plan a wardrobe malfunction. As a result he told her she could no longer be a part of the divas. Rosa Mendes swore that she didn’t make the wardrobe malfunction happen purposefully. She then said that Alicia Fox was the only one who knew about this and that Alicia had thrown her under the boss and betrayed her. Rosa then confronted Alicia about the incident and Alicia denied that she told anyone other than the other divas. Alicia claimed she has Rosa’s back 100% but Rosa didn’t seem to believe her.

Nikki and John began discussing the fact that she wasn’t going to go to a monthly “cousin” dinner that she always attends. Then John and Nikki told each other they were being poops. Nikki confessed that she loves her family but is having a hard time forgiving them.

Eva Marie then confessed to Jonathan that even though she can have children she doesn’t want to. He agreed that now was not the time to have children but later on in life it would be ok. However, Eva Marie couldn’t agree to this and she finally admitted she never wants to have children. Jonathan then confronted her on her decision and Eva Marie said that she has no maternal instincts. This led to Jonathan calling Eva Marie out on marrying him knowing that he does want to have children. Eva Marie then told Jonathan that their relationship moved so quickly and that’s why he wasn’t aware of her feelings. Jonathan told Eva Marie it is not normal to lie about not wanting children and stormed out of the house.

Meanwhile at Nikki’s “cousin dinner,” she said the night wasn’t about Brie and she wasn’t going to let her ruin it. Brie tried to talk to Nikki at the dinner but she got ignored. She said that even though she has apologized to Nikki, Nikki is not accepting it and that Brie didn’t have time for the drama. Brie even confessed that she made a mistake, in hopes of making up with her sister.

Eva Marie then met with Jonathan to discuss their situation calmly. They came to the conclusion that even if she had previously confessed not wanting to have children, Jonathan still would have married her.

These two teams really don’t like each other. To be fair, they seem to hate each other on a team wide and individual basis. Terrell Suggs refuses to utter Tom Brady‘s name and the Pats QB seems to loathe even being on the same field with the Baltimore club. That was the setting going into this Divisional Playoff game in Foxboro.

Baltimore started off with the ball and struck quickly on their first drive to go up 7-0. Joe Flacco hit Kamar Aiken for a 19 yard TD as the Ravens QB started out hot and stayed that way most of the day.

The next score of the game came from Baltimore once again. This time it was old man Steve Smith doing his thing, namely making big plays in big games. Flacco connected with Smith for a 9 yard score to put his team up 14-0 as the stunned crowd watched in horror.

The Patriots finally got going on their next drive as Brady and Gronkowski connected on a couple of big pass plays. Edelman was in on the action as well. The Patriots capped off the eight play drive with a Brady run up the middle to score, making it 14-7. Life was pumped back into the New England crowd with Brady’s spike.

The next three drives ended in punts by both teams. Brady getting into a mini scuffle with a Ravens defensive lineman was the only interesting moment for a few minutes.

New England marched down the field quickly on their next scoring drive. The little receivers that have not done a thing most of the year, Amendola and Edelman, made some of their best plays of the year. The former caught a 15 yard touchdown to tie this game up 14-14.

The Ravens offense had stalled as they once again punted the ball away. This time they got it back quickly as the Golden Boy threw a pick as he tried to hit Gronk one too many times.

This possession Baltimore would not waste. They got a big penalty on the Patriots’ Darrelle Revis as he grabbed Steve Smith for a pass interference call worth 20 yards. Flacco hooked up with Owen Daniels to make it 21-14 Ravens.

After halftime the Pats punted after they failed to move the chains. Gronk was interfered with on third down but no call came.

Baltimore took advantage of their next possession as they went down the field in about three and a half minutes. Torrey Smith caught a 35 yarder from Flacco to set the Ravens up on the one yard line. However, Smith got dinged with a taunting flag, moving them back to the 15. No matter. Journeyman Justin Forsett took a screen pass to the house on the ensuing play. 28-14 Ravens.

Once again the chowder heads in the stands were getting pretty nervous. They had Tom Brady though, who tied Joe Montana for most TD passes in the postseason with his five yarder to Gronk to make it 28-21, Baltimore still on top.

After another Ravens punt, Belichick got tricky. Brady tossed a backward pass to Edelman who proceeded to shock the Ravens defense for a 51 yard deep ball to Amendola. 28-28 and the Ravens were on the ropes.

Flacco got in a hurry on the next drive as he tossed an interception. He had played near flawlessly up until that play. The Pats failed to score off the turnover and punted it back after a three and out.

Baltimore went on a long drive, and I mean long. They ate up almost eight minutes on a 16 play drive. Only problem was they couldn’t get in the end zone and settled for a FG. 31-28 Baltimore.

Tom Brady knows how to deliver a knockout punch. He was nearly perfect on his next chance at the Baltimore defense. He capped the drive with a 23 yard pass to Brandon LaFell to put his team up 35-31. Touchdowns win playoff games, not field goals. Actually field goals do win playoff games, but not in this case!

Flacco and crew had another chance to make something happen, but as they were moving the ball another pick was thrown by the Ravens’ 100 million dollar QB. Torrey Smith did his passer no favors as he could have broken the play up on the defender.

Brady took a few kneel downs which left Baltimore with about four seconds toheave one into the abyss of the end zone. Brady and company find themselves in the AFC Title game once again next week. This team will not go away. Brady is just too good.

Let’s be honest. No one gave the Panthers a chance in this game that was played in Seattle. Carolina was in a horrible division that allowed them to squeak into the postseason and got lucky as they played an Arizona team that was down to the team bus driver as their quarterback. And Seattle has looked unbeatable the past few weeks. The Panthers held their own for three quarters however.

The Panthers’ first play on offense went awry as Jonathan Stewart coughed the ball up. Not a good start but Carolina retained possession. Carolina ended up punting the ball away and the teams traded punts for a few drives. Seattle benefited from better field position on almost every punt though.

Make no mistake, Carolina has a stout defense. And Cam Newton is a force to reckon with. His accuracy and passing consistency needs improvement, but he can take over a game with his shear size and running ability. The early going in this one was no easy task for the defending Super Bowl champs.

Newton did give Seattle the ball back on a deep pick to Richard Sherman. But it was such a long pass that it was in effect another punt. And Seattle was unable to capitalize on the turnover.

Carolina got the ball back after the Seahawks punted it. It was a short lived drive as Stewart fumbled again, but lost it this time around. Russell Wilson made them pay for this miscue, hitting Doug Baldwin for a 16 yard score to go up 7-0. Carolina had held Marshawn Lynch in check so far, but Wilson is indefensible.

On Carolina’s next drive they got a huge run from Stewart who has been one of the top rushers the past five weeks. Newton was almost picked, but came back a couple plays later to find rookie sensation Kelvin Benjamin for a score. Seattle was forced to cover the big play rookie with a backup. The result was a tie game 7-7.

Seattle would answer on their next drive with Russell Wilson putting the perfect touch on a deep ball. Jermaine Kearse made just as nice a catch as the pass. He also made sure to get in the end zone with a stretch for the pylon. In a game of inches, there have been untold points left unscored as players failed to get the touchdown when they had the chance. If he is stopped at the one, who is to say the Hawks don’t have to eventually settle for a field goal? 14-7 Seattle.

Carolina’s last drive before the half was quite eventful. Benjamin almost had another TD catch, but failed to get both feet in. Cam was lucky to keep the ball as he carried it like a loaf of bread. OK to do that versus the Falcons….Seahawks are not the Falcons. Earl Thomas had a big INT reversed by the booth and Kam Chancellor damn near killed big Mike Tolbert on a vicious hit. The Panthers finally got a FG after a flag on back to back tries. Chancellor showed the meaning of freak athlete as he leaped over the line twice in a row to try and block the kick. 14-10 Seattle led at the half.

The third quarter started with a Lynch fumble that was saved by Russell Wilson. Wilson is simply a great football player, not just an elite QB.

Carolina got the ball back via a punt, but failed to do much as Newton was way off target on many of his second half passes.

Seattle did not look like a rushing threat most of the game, but that changed in the third period as Beast Mode struck for 25 yards. Lynch’s run got the Hawks sideline fired slap up! Wilson followed that up with a big run to show it was near over for Carolina. Even though Seattle only got three out of this drive, it was a back breaker for the Panthers as the rushing game of the champs was getting in rhythm. 17-10 champs.

Carolina couldn’t move the ball and had to give it right back to the Seahawks. Tight end Luke Wilson made two big time receptions on this drive. The second was a TD catch to make it 24-10 champs.

The game was basically over so Newton had to press the issue if the Panthers had any shot. That resulted in an 89 yard interception by Kam Chancellor who put the hammer down as he crossed into the end zone. Legion of Boom had struck to make it 31-10 Seattle.

Carolina got a late TD to Benjamin that only served to wreck some football pools and point spreads. It made the final 31-17 Seattle. The Hawks will host the NFC Title game for the second year in a row. This team is on fire and appears to be a freight train from Hell, to quote Mr. Chazz Michael Michaels.

TOTAL DIVAS Spotlight On the Bella Twins

Of all the WWE divas that make up the cast of Total Divas most of the action centers on Brie and Nikki Bella. The duo has been wrestling in a WWE ring since 2008. Brie Bella was the first to appear and Nikki was introduced as Brie’s twin shortly afterwards. When Brie made her debut part of her gimmick was to disappear under the wrestling ring and magically reappear rested and refreshed. In all actuality what was happening was that Brie was ducking under the ring and Nikki was popping up, posing as Brie. Once the WWE finally let the cat out of the bag that Brie has a twin sister in Nikki they two began working storylines with the other wrestlers where they would participate in matches against other tag teams.

Brie and Nikki got their start in wrestling in 2007 with Florida Championship Wrestling before they signed with WWE. Florida Championship Wrestling is the training grounds all future WWE wrestlers go through. Upon completing their time at FCW Brie debuted on Smackdown. Once she and Nikki were established WWE divas they were moved to Monday Night RAW during the Supplemental Draft of 2009, where they are today. Later in 2009 they were briefly transferred to ECW, a now defunct WWE brand. They also appeared on WWE Superstars at the same time. A divas trade in October of 2012 brought the twins back to Monday Night RAW. At that point they were involved in backstage antics but didn’t get in the wrestling ring very much. Once they got back in the ring on a more regular basis they began rivalries with Maryse and Jillian Hall. This led to a tag team match that pit Maryse and Jillian Hall against Brie and Nikki Bella, who emerged victorious.

Over the course of their first few years with WWE the two were involved in storyline romances with other tag team partners. This eventually led to a storyline romance that mirrored the real life romance of Brie and Daniel Bryan, who are now married in real life as viewers of Total Divas already know.

The Bella twins participated in season three of NXT, which is a WWE show for those who want to become professional wrestlers. The girls participated in the show to act as a mentor for NXT contestant Jamie. However, one wrestler is voted out at the end of each episode and Jamie was voted out on the first one for season three.

There was a period in 2012 and 2013 where the Bella Twins left the WWE and briefly worked for some independent wrestling federations. During that time they participated in a show for Northeast Wrestling and CTWE Pro Wrestling, where they did nothing more than walk other wrestlers to the ring. Shortly after Brie and Nikki returned to the WWE in 2013, Total Divas made its debut. On a side note, the Bella Twins had originally entered WWE’s Diva Search in 2006 but at that time they didn’t even make the cut.

During Wrestlemania 29 Brie and Nikki were supposed to have a match against the Funkadactyls, another WWE female tag team. Unfortunately the match was cut from Wrestlemania at the last minute because of time constraints. Instead the match took place on the next night’s Monday Night RAW and was won by the Funkadactyls. Shortly after Wrestlemania 29, Nikki accidently fractured her tibia.

When Total Divas made its debut in July of 2013 rivalries were immediately started between the Bella twins and Natalya and the twins and A.J. Lee. Shortly after the show began Brie Bella and Daniel Bryan got engaged. Upon finding out about this turn of events the WWE incorporated it into both Total Divas and Monday Night RAW storylines.

By April of 2014 Brie Bella was involved in a WWE storyline with Daniel Bryan that was played out on Monday Night RAW. The storyline dealt with WWE chairman Vince McMahon and daughter Stephanie, threatening to fire Brie if Daniel Bryan didn’t relinquish the company’s World Heavyweight Championship title and belt because he was injured and couldn’t compete. Brie then “quit” the WWE and wasn’t seen again until three months later where her arrest for trespassing was staged to help move along the story line.

These busy girls, in addition to wrestling and filming Total Divas, have also appeared on other shows and in the movie Confessions of a Womanizer, which was an independent film. In 2013 Nikki Bella was a celebrity judge for the Miss USA Pageant. In 2014 the twins were presenters at the MTV Music Awards in Europe. They presented the award for Best Female.

A piece of trivia that most people don’t know about the Bella twins is that Nikki Bella got married at the age of 20 to the man she called her high school sweetheart.  After three years the marriage was annulled and as viewers of Total Divas know, Nikki is now dating John Cena. Many people also are not aware of the fact that Nikki is qualified to be a real estate agent. A trivia tidbit about Brie is that she is an animal rights advocate and has used Total Divas to raise animal rights awareness.

Suffice it to say the cameras love Brie and Nikki Bella, no matter what they are doing. They have a presence that makes it hard not to watch every move they make. These two truly are the heart of Total Divas and have probably brought more to the show than any other divas that have participated or will participate in future seasons.

Fans all over the world tune in every week to see what the Bella twins are up to now. One thing is sure; life is never dull for these two ladies. They always have something going on and even when you can tell one of them or both of them is having a bad day they still exude beauty other women only dream of.

With the conclusion of the college football bowl season, it is now time for fans to start thinking about the NFL Draft. For the first time since 2005, the draft will take place somewhere other than Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The 2015 NFL Draft will take place April 30 through May 2 from Auditorium Theatre in Chicago. Where will you favorite college players end up? With a pretty good idea of which underclassmen will choose to enter the draft, here is a look at the top five picks in the upcoming draft as well as the top prospects at each position.

  1. Tampa Bay

In a quarterback driven league, the Bucs need a franchise player. They think they will have one in 2014 Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota of Oregon. Mariota passed for over 4,000 yards and accounted for 55 touchdowns in his brilliant redshirt junior season.

After Mariota, there is Jameis Winston, the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner, of Florida State if he chooses to enter the draft. Winston plays baseball at FSU and could opt to return to school. At 6-5, 240 pounds, Winston is a prototypical NFL QB with a strong arm. Whether or not teams want to deal with Winston’s off-field antics is another story.

Behind Mariota and Winston is probably the best true NFL prospect at the position, UCLA’s Brett Hundley. The 6-3, 227-pound Hundley played in a more traditional pro-style offense and could sneak into the first round.

Running Back

Melvin Gordon of Wisconsin came within 100 yards of breaking the NCAA single-season rushing record held by Barry Sanders. Gordon and Georgia’s Todd Gurley are the best of a pretty solid group of running backs in this year’s draft. One of the two, if not both, could go late in the first round.

Wide Receiver

Amari Cooper of Alabama had the kind of season receivers dream about. He finished the season with 124 receptions for 1,727 yards and 16 touchdowns. He can do it all. Cooper’s got good speed, strength, and route-running skills.

Defensive Line

There are numerous quality defensive lineman in this year’s draft. Williams, Gregory, and Beasley are not the only ones who could be top 10 picks. Malcolm Brown (Texas) is a big 6-4, 320-pound load of a defensive tackle. Dante Flower (6-3, 270) helped lead a very good Florida defense and as more teams opt for the 3-4 defense, players like Florida State’s Eddie Goldman (6-4, 313) will be in high demand.

Linebacker

This year’s draft is deep in defensive gems. None may be brighter than Washington’s Shaq Thompson, a 6-2, 231-pound outside linebacker. Benardrick McKinney (Mississippi State) will be a steal late in the first round or early in the second. At 6-5, 249, McKinney has the frame to add weight and could wind up as an every-down defensive end.

Defensive Back

With more teams using tight ends and big wide receivers to create matchup advantages, the need for hard-hitting safeties that can cover like corners has never been higher. The only surefire first round safety is Alabama’s Landon Collins (6-0, 222). The first cornerback off the board might be Michigan State’s Trae Waynes, a 6-1, 183-pounder who excels at press man coverage.

This week’s Undercover Boss features Colorado based Phenix Salon Inc’s President and co-founder, Gina Rivera, a former hair stylist, visiting a handful of the company’s locations. Rivera said that she wanted to go undercover because there are plans to open 50 more locations and she wanted to get an idea of how well the business was running.

The first stop on her undercover journey was a location in Boca Raton, Florida where she was scheduled to work as a barber. In her undercover identity as a woman named Ashley she introduced herself to Michele, the barber she was working with for the day. Ashley then met the first customer of the day, named Chris. Right away Ashley noticed how meticulous Michele was in her work and admitted that even though she was following Michele’s instructions she was screwing up.  When the next customer, named Mike, came in Ashley knew she was going to be assisting him by shaving his beard. Michele walked Ashley through the process of doing so. When it came time to start the actual shave Ashley admitted that her stress level was “through the roof,” and that her blood pressure was quickly rising. Michele advised Ashley to have a good grip on the blade and to not rush through the job. She then told Ashley that this was the time not to make any mistakes. At that point Ashley confessed that she thought she was going to faint. When she was finished Michele praised Ashley for a job well done and told her that she “nailed it,” much to Ashley’s relief.  After they had completed work for the day the two talked about the daily struggles Michele faces as a single mother of four children. Ashley then confessed she wanted to fill all the company’s locations with employees like Michele.

For her second undercover mission she visited a Las Vegas location of the company. She was scheduled to work as a nail technician for the day. This particular location does not do as much business as it should and Ashley went in to figure out why. She met with the employee she’d be working with, G and her first job of the day was a pedicure, which seemed to make Ashley uncomfortable. On their lunch break they talked about the fact that the salon was often empty of customers. Ashley said that this location was struggling because the owners were not present. The two women then bonded over the fact that both had lost their mothers.

In her third undercover mission Ashley worked at a location of the salon in Catonsville, Maryland where she was assigned to work as a cosmetologist. Felisa was a cosmetologist at the salon that Ashley worked with for the day. Ashley stated that she was nervous because Felisa’s clients are African American and that Ashley does not know how to do their hair. After showing Ashley the proper technique for a weave, Felisa asked her to try performing it. Ashley was unhappy that this particular location of the salon was very noisy and she was going to look into a way to make it soundproof, after Felisa complained to her about the noise. On a scale of one to 10 Felisa said Ashley’s performance on the weave she performed was only four. Felisa then told Ashley that the communication at this particular location was awful. Afterwards the two women talked about Felisa’s family, including her mother and her children. Felisa then confessed that she felt like she was a failure and she hadn’t accomplished anything with her family.

Long Beach California was the location of Ashley’s fourth undercover mission, this time as a hair stylist. She arrived and met Richie, the hair stylist she would be working with for the day. Richie talked Ashley through cutting the hair of a customer with curls all over her head. After Ashley did the job Richie told her he wasn’t thrilled with her results. Ashley then helped Richie apply hair dye to the next customer. Ashley said that Richie made her performance even better when it came to completing the dye job. Richie and Ashley then talked about his personal life. He confessed that his wife had had a baby after a period of homelessness for the family. Ashley said she was very impressed with Richie after hearing everything he had endured in his personal life in recent years.

After completing all four undercover missions Rivera called together all of the employees she had worked with along the way. She met with Felisa and confessed her real identity. Rivera told Felisa she is good at what she does and that Rivera was happy to have her working for the company. She told Felisa that she had taught Rivera so much about hair weaves that she was bringing Felisa in on a new training program for employees. In addition Rivera gave Felisa $10,000 to help her with personal expenses, including visiting Felisa’s grandmother’s cemetery plot.

When she met with Michele and they discussed Michele’s struggle to raise her kids. Rivera then gave Michele $10,000 to take care of one of her four children that was going to need a wheelchair. She also said she would pay Michele’s salon rent for a year. In addition Rivera sent Michele and her family to Maui for vacation.

Rivera also met with G and talked about getting G’s location filled. She also gave G $5,000 to purchase supplies for the salon. Rivera even paid for a cruise G was planning to take her daughter on as a college graduation gift. Since G’s daughter is going to law school, Rivera gave G $40,000 to pay for it.

Lastly, Rivera met with Richie and they discussed his job performance. Rivera then gave Richie $5,000 to host a fundraiser to help pay medical bills his daughter had incurred. She also agreed to buy him a home so he would never have to worry about being homeless again.

John Elway has been on both sides of success. He won back to back Super Bowls, but he tasted the bitterness of Super Bowl losses as well. Now he has to make decisions from the top about what is considered successful from a coaching standpoint. The former Broncos great made a tough decision this week when he concluded that head coach John Fox’s best wasn’t going to be good enough for the Broncos going forward.

The two parties agreed to part ways, but make no mistake, if Elway wanted Fox back then that would have happened. Clearly the General Manager of the Broncos has greater hopes for his team than what Fox was been able to produce in his four years with them. That record of 46-18 would be welcome on most teams, but it was no longer going to cut it for Elway. Actually the regular season numbers were good enough. It was what happened each year in the postseason that got Fox run off.

He did some good things in the playoffs like winning a game with Tim Tebow under center. No disrespect to Tebow, but no other team even gave him a chance to get on the field after he was ushered out of Denver the next year. Fox even managed to get his crew to the Super Bowl last year. The result was the problem. They were not even close to a Seattle team that was a heavy underdog. And many so called experts made a point of saying that Fox was out coached by Pete Carroll in the big game. These “experts” were the same people who picked Denver to win the game in the first place, so I take their opinions with a grain of salt.

John Elway had his share of Super Bowl embarrassments. Three of those games his team got waxed. So he has not forgotten that it can happen to even the best of teams, players, and coaches. But now Elway has to make the hard decisions about what should be accomplished. He can’t wait around to see if a coach is going to finally get over the hump. It was eight years after Elway’s Broncos lost their third Super Bowl before they got back there and actually won the big game. As General Manager, the former QB can’t be that patient.

So, did Fox deserve more time? I say no. He is a hell of a coach. He has a good regular season record for an NFL coach and has taken two different franchises to the Super Bowl. Most teams would be glad to have the man stalk their sidelines. But he was given a Hall Of Fame quarterback in Peyton Manning three years ago. And this season Elway made sure Fox had a much improved defense to work with. The team was in place to at least get back to the Super Bowl. When that didn’t happen, Fox had to be replaced. What would be the point of waiting around another year, especially considering Manning’s window to keep playing is just about closed.

In the NFL, good just isn’t good enough most of the time. If a coach has success then he is not going to ride that wave forever. He has to keep winning to stay employed and that rarely happens. Being an NFL head coach is a great job short term, but eventually you will be fired in most cases. Even the best coaches will feel the sting of losing enough games to get a pink slip. John Fox did a good job in Denver and the franchise was lucky to have him. He just fell a bit short. And in the grind of the NFL, a bit short is enough to send a man packing. It will be interesting to see who gets the gig in Denver now. Also Manning, who’s best hasn’t been good enough in Denver either, may not be there for the new coach once one is hired.

Bill Cosby is a timeless actor that never should have made this list in the first place. Yet here he is after recent allegations came to light regarding his sexual assaults against women back in the 1960s and 1970s.Though his agent has denied all the allegations made against him he has already fallen from grace in the eyes of America as he was forced to cancel interviews and various appearances when news of his alleged actions first broke. It is highly doubtful he will ever be able to recover from the damage this has done not only to his career but to his reputation as an actor as well.

Now that it has come out that he had inappropriate sexual relations with a minor he is fairly assured that the roles he once got he will no longer be offered. It is safe to say that had this come to light before Seventh Heaven came along Stephen Collins would not have been cast on the show. But at this point, his due date is past and it is time for him to put away his acting chops.

thThis week on Undercover Boss the President of Maaco went undercover to get a feel for how the company’s employees operate and what problems need to be addressed. President Jose Costa wanted to ensureat the brand is being represented properly. Costa gave a little overview of how the company got started and grew into what it is today.

His first stop on his undercover mission took place in Orlando, Florida where he was tasked with working alongside a body tech. The particular Orlando shop where his mission began is one of the top performing shops the company has. Costa stated that he was going undercover at the location so he could learn the job from the best body tech at Maaco. He worked with unsuspecting employee Jim, who simply thought Costa was there to be trained in the job.

Jim gave “Alberto” (Costa’s undercover identity) his uniform and promptly put him to work. He started out by explaining what needed to be done on the car they would be working on that day. The first bit of conflict came when Jim told Alberto that he gets no hourly pay and instead works solely on commission. Jim stated that time is money, implying that all he cared about was getting the job done quickly. Alberto then began sanding down the car that Jim was tasked to work on. At one point Jim said that they were close to screwing up the job and that Jim’s three year old could probably do a better job sanding a car than Alberto was. Jim then once again emphasized that the best course of action was to complete the job doing as little work as possible. He then said that not every dent had to be fixed 100%. Jim also stated that cutting corners was what had to be done in order to make money. He then said that as a company Maaco was subpar.

During a work break Jim confessed to Alberto that he had spent time in jail and admitting to having had problems with alcohol in the past. He then explained that he spent 18 months in rehab.

Alberto then moved on to another Maaco store in Orlando to work side by side with an employee painting cars. Upon arriving he introduced himself to Christian, the employee he would be working with. Alberto was happy to see that where Jim would cut corners Christian did a thorough job that he could be proud of. As soon as Alberto made some mistakes on his first paint job, Christian stopped him and politely showed him what he did wrong. When the two went on a break from work Christian confessed to Alberto that he was missing his family. Christian spoke of leaving his home in Puerto Rico in order to live the American dream. He then told Alberto that his wife had had a difficult pregnancy that led to a miscarriage and that she was now pregnant again but could not work. As a result, Christian admitted he was struggling to make ends meet.

Alberto’s third undercover mission took place at a Maaco shop in Trenton, New Jersey where he met the franchise owner, Matt and worked with an employee called Rambo. They worked together moving cars around the lot and Rambo stated that Alberto is a slow driver. At one point the two were told they need a VIN and Alberto didn’t even know what that was. Alberto stated that running back and forth on the lot was very stressful. When they went on a work break Rambo told Alberto that eight years ago he had been in a bad car accident and had to immediately return to work anyway. Rambo stated that he had to work on cars outside in all kinds of weather because they couldn’t afford an indoor space for him to work in.

His fourth undercover mission then took place in Lawnside, NJ as a car detailer. When he arrived Alberto met Acey, the detailer he worked with. He also met Mark, the shop manager, who told him the car he was detailing had to be done within an hour. Mark later pulled Acey aside and told him to review the detailing process with Alberto again. At the end of the work day Acey admitted to Alberto that he had had drug problems in the past and had spent two years in jail. He stated that his work release program led him to his Maaco job.

Upon completing all four missions each of the employees Alberto worked with were brought to a Texas car showroom to confess his undercover mission to each of them.

Jim was the first employee he met with. He told Jim that he struggled with the admission of cutting corners. Costa then told Jim he did not need him to cut corners in his job and Jim stated that’s what he had been trained to do. Costa then announced Jim had 30 days to improve his job performance.

Matt was the second employee he met with. Costa told Matt he cares about all the franchise owners and that he wanted to help remodel Matt’s store, paint his building and get him new signage. Christian was offered training from Costa in preparation for becoming a franchise owner as well as rent money.

Rambo was the third employee he met with. Costa told him that he wanted to build a heated workstation to avoid Rambo having to work outside in the cold. Costa then gave Rambo $20,000 to care for his family with.

Acey was the fourth employee he met with and Costa said Ace was the highlight of his week undercover. Costa then announced he was sending Acey and his family on a vacation and providing college funds for each of his four children. He also gave Acey $25,000 to care for is family as well. He even stated that he would give him a $10,000 down payment for a new home.
