Alexis Ajinça: Best Basketball Player You’ve Probably Never Heard About

0

Alexis Ajinça best nba players you dont know about yet 2015

For every superstar multi-million dollar player in the NBA there are tons of young players just trying to get out on the court. Working day in and day out, these players strive for their chance to go up against these All-Stars and make a name for themselves one day. Among these players is the hard to miss, but often overlooked Alexis Ajinça.

At 7’2-7’3, 250 pounds, Ajinça is a monster both on and off the court. The big man was born and raised in France, and in 2003 he began his career as a junior basketball player for INSEP Centre Federal.

It didn’t take long for Ajinça to make it to the French professional basketball league. Between 2006 and 2008 Ajinça played for Pau-Orthez and Hyeres-Toulon in France before starting to receive attention from NBA franchises.

In 2008, the Charlotte Bobcats selected Ajinça with the 20th overall pick in the NBA Draft. Unfortunately, he didn’t get much playing time with the Bobcats; and at the end of the 2008-2009 season Ajinça was assigned to the Sioux Falls Skyforce—the Bobcats NBA Developmental League affiliate.

Ajinça was recalled by the Bobcats soon after being sent to the Skyforce, but the Bobcats gave the big man even less playing time the following season. In fact, Ajinça spent most of the 2009-2010 with the Maine Red Claws, another NBA D-League team.

In the 2010 offseason, Ajinça was traded to the Dallas Mavericks as part of the Tyson Chandler deal; and then in early 2011 he was traded again, this time to the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors gave Ajinça the most playing time of any team, but it still wasn’t much. Ajinça averaged just over four points and two rebounds per game in his 24 games in Canada.

Getting tired of his limited playing time in America, Ajinça flew back to France to join Paris-Levallois, then Hyeres-Toulon, and finally SIG Strasbourg.

In 2013, Ajinça decided to give the NBA another chance, and he signed with the New Orleans Pelicans in December. Since then, things have gotten a lot better for the big man.

The Pelicans have given Ajinça the biggest chance to shine in the NBA. Head coach Monty Williams sees the potential Ajinça has, and he knows that with his height he could turn into one of the better centers and inside scorers in the league. It took the big man a season to adjust to the NBA, but Ajinça has really come alive so far in the 2014-2015 NBA season.

Ajinça has especially stepped up when Anthony Davis missed time with injuries. During Davis’s injury after the All-Star break, Ajinça came off the bench averaging about 15 points and seven rebounds per game on an insane 70.6 shooting percentage. The Pelicans won all four of those games, including a 104-102 victory over the Miami Heat in which Ajinça scored a career-high 24 points off the bench. Even after Davis returned to the lineup Ajinça continued to dominate off the bench, scoring 17 in the Pelicans win over the Brooklyn Nets.

“I just think he’s in better condition this year,” said Williams when asked about Ajinça’s improvement in 2015. “He’s always been a skilled player, but he’s in much better condition this year to handle the rigors of getting up and down the floor and playing against bigger guys. And he’s worked on his game. He’s always been a guy who could shoot the ball, but he’s done so much work down in the post. He’s got good footwork.”

Ajinça knew the Pelicans were the right fit for him when he decided to come back to the league—a developing team and a developing player. As the team continues to improve and win, Alexis Ajinça continues to become more and more of a force in the NBA.

NBA 2014-2015 Coach of the Year Race Closer than MVP Race

0

steve kerr with mike budenholzer coach of nba year 2015

The 2014-2015 NBA season has had more than its fair share of “Can you believe that!” moments and MVP-caliber performances. The MVP race is as close as it’s ever been with Steph Curry, LeBron James, James Harden, and even Russell Westbrook have all made their cases for why they deserve the award reserved for the best player in the league.

With all the high-profile players this season, the NBA Coach of the Year race has been widely overlooked. For every MVP candidate, there is at least one coach doing a fantastic job in leading their team. Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors, Mike Budenholzer of the Atlanta Hawks, Kevin McHale of the Houston Rockets, Dave Joerger of the Memphis Grizzlies, Terry Stotts of the Portland Trailblazers, and even Jason Kidd of the Milwaukee Bucks have all made their cases for Coach of the Year. Here’s a short look at Kerr and Budenholzer, the two front-runners for this year:

Steve Kerr: Turning down Phil Jackson’s offer and deciding to coach the Warriors instead seems to be one of the best decisions Kerr has ever made. Kerr has turned the group of shooters, passers, and defenders into the best team in the Western Conference. Under Kerr’s guidance, the Warriors have soared; in fact, Golden State is No. 2 overall offensive team in the league, No. 1 in defense, and No. 1 in pace of play. If the Warriors can keep up this level of play, Kerr and his team will bring back the franchise’s first championship since 1975.

Mike Budenholzer: In my opinion, Budenholzer is the Coach of the Year by a long shot. The Hawks don’t have a single superstar on their roster. Jeff Teague, Paul Millsap, Al Horford, and Kyle Korver were all All-Stars and solid players; but none of them would be considered in the top 10 players in the NBA. Not having a future Hall of Famer on his squad hasn’t hurt Budenholzer or the Hawks at all—the Hawks have the best record in the NBA, and were 33-2 between November and January. With his share-the-ball style and team trust, Budenholzer has produced a team that can win in any situation.

Jimmy Graham Makes the Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl Favorites Once Again

0

jimmy graham is seattle seahawks super bowl favorite 2015

In what was by far the most shocking and unexpected trade in the opening minutes of the NFL’s new year, the New Orleans Saints sent their Pro Bowl tight end Jimmy Graham to the Seattle Seahawks along with a 4th round draft pick for center Max Unger and a 1st round pick.

Without going on a tangent about why Saints general manager deserves to lose his job if the team struggles on offense in 2015 after getting rid of two fan favorites—running back Pierre Thomas and now Jimmy Graham—to solve the cap space issue which he also deserves a good amount of blame for, let’s take a look at what Graham brings to the Super Bowl XLVIII champion and Super Bowl XLIX runner-up Seattle Seahawks:

The Seahawks are getting the second best tight end in the NFL behind only Rob Gronkowski. The former third round pick out of Miami has been an absolute monster on the field. Since coming into the league in 2010, Graham has led all tight ends with 4,752 total receiving yards and has scored the third most touchdowns in the league over that time span as well with 51.

In 2013 Graham secured his place as one of the top players in the league with 1,215 yards and 16 touchdowns. The 2014 season wasn’t his best, but even an off-year for Graham consisted of almost 900 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Bringing in Graham not only adds another Pro Bowler to the stacked roster in Seattle but also addresses the Seahawks biggest offensive need—big, bulky receivers. Graham is a ridiculously-athletic, 6’7 ball hawk. The Seahawks played four tight ends this season with Luke Wilson getting the majority of the snaps after Zach Miller’s injury. In Miller’s absence, the other three tight ends combined for 681 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 2014.

When Sidney Rice retired, Golden Tate left in free agency, and Percy Harvin a ghost of his former self, the Seahawks seemed to have nothing left at wide receiver heading into 2014. Fortunately for the team, Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse really stepped up in the passing game.

At the end of the season, the Seahawks could have used another big receiver on the roster. Russell Wilson’s pass at the end of Super Bowl XLIX would have certainly found its proper target if Jimmy Graham were on the receiving end. Graham will without a doubt be Wilson’s favorite target in 2015.

The Graham trade isn’t necessarily a win-win, however. Graham’s contract will cost the Seahawks about $8 million in cap space in 2015. Between Graham, Marshawn Lynch’s contract extension, and soon-to-come huge contracts for Wilson and linebacker Bobby Wagner, the Seahawks will be in the same over-the-cap situation that the Saints found themselves in this offseason.

On top of the salary cap problems, the Seahawks will need to start rebuilding their offensive line after losing two starters. Center Max Unger will be playing football in New Orleans this season as part of the Jimmy Graham trade, and guard James Carpenter left for the New York Jets as a free agent. The Seahawks will have to replace these two starters without the help of a 1st round pick as well. Good luck.

Let’s recap the trade:

Pros: The Hawks addressed their biggest needs, and brought in one of the best receiving tight ends in the league.

Cons: The Seahawks will have to rebuild their offensive line this offseason, and they will need to rethink their entire payroll after this season.

It’s sure to be an interesting season for the Seattle Seahawks.

FA Cup Sixth Round Review

The most anticipated clash of this season’s FA Cup is now over. Manchester United and Arsenal hold the joint record for the most FA Cup wins in the history of English football. But Arsenal can get one better of the Manchester giants by the end of this season.

Manchester United entertained Arsene Wenger’s men to Old Trafford for the crunch tie on Monday. Van Gaal’s men suffered the first blow as Monreal managed to sneak the ball past David de Gea. The Gunners’ celebration didn’t last long as Wayne Rooney scored a brilliant header on the other end, just four minutes later. The cross was way more spectacular than the finish. United’s record new signing, Angel di Maria had a good first half, but a moment of madness in the second half jeopardized his team’s chances completely.

The second half of the game at United’s home was full of drama. Antonio Valencia was one of Man United’s best players on the pitch and at the one-hour mark, he made a terrible mistake which resulted in Arsenal’s second goal of the night. Of all people, Danny Welbeck, the product of United’s academy scored on his first return to the club. Also the English striker didn’t shy away from celebrating the goal with his teammates. In the 76th minute, Di Maria got booked for simulation. The Argentine winger couldn’t control his temper and pushed the match referee for not giving the decision in his favor. Michael Oliver gave no second thought to it and showed him the red card. The drama didn’t end there. Only minutes from the final whistle, Adnan Januzaj took a leap in Arsenal’s penalty box. But the referee was convinced that the Belgian wasn’t brought down and instead he dived to earn a penalty. United’s Dutch master, Louis van Gaal seemed very disappointed and has vowed to reach the Champions League after the disastrous result.

The next most successful team in the oldest club competition, Liverpool couldn’t find a breakthrough goal against Blackburn on Sunday. It was a goalless draw at Anfield and the winner of this fixture will be decided in the replay at Blackburn’s home. Bradford and Reading were also involved in a goalless draw. Reading had no shots on target compared to Bradford’s one. The winner of this tie will play Arsenal, while Aston Villa will meet Liverpool, if they successfully see off Blackburn.

Aston Villa are struggling at the wrong end of the Premier League table. But Tim Sherwood’s team is doing a fine job in the FA Cup. Villa picked up a win over another Premier League outfit, West Brom. Fabian Delph and Scott Sinclair netted one each as Villa won 2 – 0 at Villa Park. Grealish and Yacob received red cards for Aston Villa and West Brom respectively.

German Bundesliga Soccer Game Week 24 Review

german bundesliga soccer week 24 review 2015

Borussia Dortmund loses the chance of reaching the top half of the table after a draw at Hamburg. Jurgen Klopp’s men failed to find a breakthrough goal, despite a total of 12 shots. Both the teams had two shots on target as the match ended in a 0 – 0 stalemate.

Meanwhile, the German champions Bayern Munich continue their wonderful run at the summit of the league table. Hannover’s Kiyotake drew first blood but it was soon canceled out by Xabi Alonso. The match remained undecided until Thomas Muller’s second half brace sealed three points for the Bundesliga giants. Pep Guardiola’s side have amassed 61 points in 24 matches and are now eleven points ahead of their competitors, VfL Wolfsburg.

The main challengers for Bayern’s Bundesliga throne were stunned at Augsburg on Saturday. Kohr’s 63rd minute strike was enough to sink the second placed team. Wolfsburg face Freiburg on Sunday and if they drop points in that match, the title race would certainly be over. Borussia Monchengladbach didn’t take advantage of Wolfsburg’s fall at the weekend, as they were held by Mainz in a 2 – 2 draw.

Bayer Leverkusen got an impressive victory at Paderborn’s home. All the goals came in the second half of the game as Papadopoulos found the first goal in the 73rd minute and Son Heung-min’s brace before full time ensured a comfortable victory for Leverkusen. Schalke also didn’t falter in this game week as they earned a 3 – 1 victory at home against Hoffenheim. First goal of the game was scored by Schalke’s Fuchs and the next two goals came from Meyer. Volland’s late second half goal was too little too late to make any impact.

Werder Bremen narrowly defeated Freiburg away from home. Former Premier League player, Franco di Santo’s 35th minute strike was enough to separate the two sides. Werder Bremen have stern test next week when they entertain the champions on Saturday. Holding Guardiola’s team to a draw will be a big achievement for them as they are sprinting to lift their 24th Championship.

This game week’s action was kicked off on Friday, when Stuttgart played host to Hertha BSC. The game ended in a goalless draw with 97th minute red card for Hertha’s Schulz. FC Cologne’s match with Frankfurt was a real goal fest. The hosts scored four goals, while Frankfurt’s Meier’s two second goals did no good to his team’s point tally. Cologne’s Wimmer was shown the red card in the injury time and he’ll the trip to Dortmund next week.

Premier League Soccer Game Week 28 Review

0

premier league soccer game review 2015

All the top eight teams in the Premier League picked up a win in this game week. It is hard to argue with Chelsea’s chances of picking up the league title. Not even the reigning champions are anywhere close to Mourinho’s men.

Manchester City had a comparatively easy fixture, when they faced Leicester City at home. Goals from Silva and Milner helped the side to pick up three more points. One slip would drag them to the fight of the top four and in a matter of games they can find themselves at the seventh spot on the league table. City’s arch rivals, Manchester United got an away victory at Newcastle on Wednesday. A mistake by Tim Krul in the dying minutes of the game allowed Ashley Young to tap-in the winner. United also crashed out of the FA Cup on Monday, which leaves the top four finish as their only goal.

Arsenal are in scintillating form. The Gunners defeated QPR at Loftus Road and then eliminated the 11-time FA Cup champions, Manchester United. Only Liverpool can match the brilliant form of the North Londoners. The Anfield based side picked up a 2 – 0 win over Burnley at home on Wednesday. Henderson and Sturridge got on the score sheet for Brendan Rodgers’ team. Burnley are second from the wrong end of the Barclays Premier League.

Pochettino’s Spurs played two games this week and amassed a total of six points in this game week. The Londoners’ first match was at White Hart Lane, where they earned a 3 – 2 victory over Garry Monk’s Swansea City. Their second match of the week was at QPR’s home ground, Loftus Road. Harry Kane (16 goals) scored a brace and is now only a goal behind Sergio Aguero and Diego Costa, in the race for the Premier League top scorer. Queen Park Ranger’s Charlie Austin is the close fourth with 15 goals.

The Saints aren’t giving up on their dream to play in Europe. Mane’s goal at the St. Mary’s on last Tuesday allowed Southampton to stay in close proximity of the Champions League spot. Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace were Southampton’s opponents and after this loss, their chances of reaching the top half of the table seem highly unlikely.

Stoke won 2 – 0 against Everton and Roberto Martinez’s problems are unending. From fifth last year to 14th this year; it is a huge fall for the Merseyside club. Although the season is not over and they can mathematically reach higher, but if they don’t the former Wigan manager might get the sack.

The league leaders have a crunch tie against PSG coming up. The West Londoners had no problem seeing off Sam Allardyce’s West Ham on last Wednesday. Eden Hazard scored the only goal of the game as Chelsea picked up 1 – 0 win at Upton Park.

Things are not looking very well for Leicester City, who are at the foot of the Premier League table. With 18 points and a game in hand, they still have a realistic chance of battling out of the relegation zone. QPR are also in big problem as they need to find a way to climb up in the table in the remaining ten matches. Rangers are 18th in the league with 22 points, with Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa right above them with 25 points.

grapefruit league week one recap images 2015

The warm sunny air is heating up in Florida as the Grapefruit League begins. Along with the warm temperatures rising, the Boston Red Sox have gotten off to a hot start this spring playing to a 7-2 record in their first nine games. This comes after an expensive off-season that saw the team land Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez.

xander bogaerts top shortstop for red sox 2015

The key to the Red Sox success this spring has been their newly revamped pitching staff. Over the teams first nine games the Red Sox have allowed only 33 runs while the team’s offense has been able to outscore their opponents by 18 runs. One player who has gotten off to a solid start is projected starting shortstop Xander Bogaerts.

Bogaerts has picked up two home runs and driven in six runs in the five games he has appeared in. Meanwhile the teams two key off-season acquisitions have gotten off to solid starts as well. In four games this season Sandoval has one home run while driving in two runs. Ramirez on the other hand has four hits in 12 at bats including two doubles.

Overall five teams in the Grapefruit have a .600 winning percentage including the Houston Astros, St. Louis Cardinals, Miami Marlins and New York Yankees. While these teams have played well this spring the same can’t be said for the Tampa Bay Rays, Atlanta Braves and the Baltimore Orioles. These teams have combined to win nine games this spring in 19 games.

This also gives us a chance to evaluate the top performers, players who found a new home this off-season and the ones that are struggling. One player that has stood out is Detroit Tigers outfielder Anthony Gose. Gose has gotten off to a terrific start picking up 11 hits in his first 19 at bats. Along with the 11 hits, Gose has picked up three doubles, two triples and six runs batted in.

Another player who has stood out this spring is New York Mets outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis. Nieuwenhuis has picked up ten hits in his first 21 at bats for the Mets this spring and could be a key contributor in 2015. Along with Nieuwenhuis, Matt Reynolds has gotten off to a hot start as well picking up nine hits in 18 at bats.

alex rodriguez off suspension for new york yankees 2015

The biggest headline of the spring has been the return of Alex Rodriguez to the Grapefruit league. After missing all of last season on suspension, Rodriguez didn’t need long picking up a hit in his first at bat. That success continued this week as Rodriguez hit his first home run of the spring.

russell martin toronto blue jays hitting great 2015

Two hitters to monitor this spring both found new homes with the Toronto Blue Jays are Russell Martin and Josh Donaldson. Martin was signed as free agent while the Blue Jays landed the All-Star third baseman in a deal with the A’s. In five games this spring Martin has picked up three hits in eleven at batas while Donaldson has four hits in 14 at bats.

Nathan Eovaldi amazing pitcher for new york yankees baseball 2015

On the mound Nathan Eovaldi has been brilliant in two games this season pitching to a 1.80 earned run average over five innings. The Yankees acquired Eovaldi from the Marlins this off-season to play a key role in their starting rotation. The Yankees big off-season acquisition Andrew Miller has been limited this spring allowing one run in three innings.

Max Scherzer with tigers baseball 2015

Another starter to follow this spring is Max Scherzer who elected to leave Detroit to sign with the Tigers. Scherzer has had his difficulties this spring allowing eight hits in five innings but has managed to get himself out of some difficult situations. Overall in five innings, Scherzer has allowed two earned runs while striking out five hitters.

rick porcello red sox pitcher sexy 2015 baseball

While the Yankees will get a few key starters returning to their rotation, the Red Sox will have a completely new rotation that includes three new off-season acquisitions. The top of the three includes Ricky Porcello along with Wade Miley and Justin Masterson. Masterson spent time with the Red Sox before joining the Indians and St. Louis Cardinals. The three have combined to make four starts allowing two runs in 11 innings.  Along with these three starters the team’s bright spot is Eduardo Rodriguez who has struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings without allowing a run.

marco gonzales hot pitcher for st louis cardinals baseball 2015

Another starter having a great spring is Marco Gonzalez of the St. Louis Cardinals who could have a chance of landing in the team’s opening day roster. Gonzalez has made two starts this spring picking up two wins in six combined innings with out allowing a run while striking out three.

Ubaldo Jimenez catches balls for orioles baseball 2015

It has been great for everyone in Florida, as a pair of potential Orioles starters have struggled. Starting pitchers Ubaldo Jimenez and Bud Norris have both struggled for the Orioles this spring allowing 13 earned runs in seven combined innings. Jimenez who the Orioles signed before last spring training is fighting for the fifth and final spot in the O’s rotation.

Other key players struggling in the Grapefruit league early on include Ryan Howard and Jacoby Ellsbury. Howard has four hits in 22 at bats this spring while Ellsbury has four hits in 21 at bats.

2015 Cactus League Week 1 Recap Review

2015 cactus league spring training baseball images

The baseball action is heating up in Arizona as the first full week of 2015 Cactus League action is in the book. While the standings in spring training don’t necessary mean results during the regular season it does give fans a little hope entering the season.

The one team that stands out is the Kansas City Royals with an 8-1 in their first nine games. Last season the Royals came within a few wins of taking home another World Series title. One key stat that stands out from the Royals success has been their ability to outscore their opponents by 23 runs in those nine games.

Along with the Royals the Cactus League has three other teams with three or fewer losses. These teams include the Oakland A’s (7-2), Arizona Diamondbacks (6-3) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (4-2). All four of these team’s our outscoring their opponents by at least eight runs.

jorge soler great new chicago cubs 2015

While these teams have gotten off to a hot start, the Chicago Cubs have struggled to get it going early on winning just one of their first eight games this spring. Despite the hype built around a young core of players including Kris Bryant, Jorge Soler and Javier Baez. The Cubs aren’t the only team that has struggled early on as the San Francisco Giants, Cleveland Indians, Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago White Sox all have only three wins to start spring training.

Now that we have taken a look at how the teams are doing in the Cactus League we can start to look at a few key players this spring. This list includes players who might have found a new home this off-season along with the ones that have performed well or struggled.

kris bryan hot for chicago cubs cactus work 2015

The first player we want to look at is Kris Bryant who is making a strong case at making the Cubs major league roster. Bryant leads all Major League players this spring with four home runs in seven games. Along with the four home runs, Bryant is hitting .500 with six runs batted in and a 1.991 ops.

alex rios hot for kansas city royals cactus league 2015

Another player that has gotten off to a hot start is Kansas City Royals outfield Alex Rios. Rios has gotten off to a terrific start hitting .438 in his first six games with two doubles and three home runs. The Royals added Rios this off-season to provide them more power in the middle of their lineup.

melky cabrera great for chicago white sox 2015

Along with Rios who signed this off-season the top two hitters on the free agent market also joined teams in the Cactus League. This includes American League home run champ Nelson Cruz who joined the Seattle Mariners. The other star is Melky Cabrera who joined the Chicago White Sox.

nelson cruz joins seattle mariners cactus league 2015

Cruz has picked up where he left off last season for the Orioles picking up four hits in 13 at bats including one home run. We really want to see how he will do once he arrives in Safeco Field in a ballpark that has not been friendly to power hitters. Cabrera on the other hand has gotten off to a much slower start hitting just .188 with three hits in 16 at bats this spring.

Brennan Boesch working hard to join cincinnatti reds 2015

The last hitter that stands out on paper is Brennan Boesch of the Cincinnati Reds who is making a strong case to earn a spot on the Reds team. Boesch is hitting .500 through his first seven games including two home runs. The Reds outfield situation includes Marlon Byrd, Billy Hamilton and Jay Bruce.

jon lester joins chicago cubs cactus league 2015

Over on the mound it is a little more difficult to access how a player is performing on small pitch counts and very little innings pitched. That being said we can get a feel for which pitcher is throwing the ball well early on during spring training. The first two pitchers we want to take a look at this spring is Jon Lester and James Shields who both found new homes this off-season.

Lester who has spent his entire career in the American League joins the Chicago Cubs while Shields signed a deal with the San Diego Padres. The Cubs starter has been brilliant this spring allowing zero earned runs over five innings while striking out five batters. Shields has been great as well striking out five hitters over four innings without allowing a run.

tyler olsen hot for mariners 2015 imagestyler olsen hot for mariners 2015 images

One reliever who has gotten off to a hot start is Tyler Olson for the Seattle Mariners. Olson has appeared in three games for the club pitching five innings while striking out eight games without allowing a single run. Another arm that has stood out is starting pitcher Kyle Lohse for the Milwaukee Brewers. Lohse has made to starts for the team pitching to a 1.59 earned run average over 5.2 innings.

Madison Bumgarner struggling first week of spring training 2015

Not everyone can get off to a hot start like the players above and one player that has struggled early on is Madison Bumgarner. The reigning World Series MVP has allowed seven earned runs in 6.1 innings. At the plate Arizona Diamondbacks rookie Yasmany Tomas has struggled to figure out Major League pitching. Tomas has five hits in his first 25 hits in his first season in the Major Leagues.

In the end the first week of spring training might not be the regular season but it does give us a chance to get ready for the regular season! We will have you covered through out the rest of spring training!

San Francisco 49ers Season Recap & 2015 Draft Needs

san francisco 49ers 2015 season recap images

The 2014 NFL season marked the San Francisco 49ers fourth season under head coach Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh led the team all the way to the NFC Championship, Super Bowl, and NFC Championship before losing in his first three seasons. Needless to say, expectations were high in San Fran for 2014.

The 49ers never really had any problems winning in Harbaugh’s first three years, but heading into 2014 there were a lot of locker room issues. At some point, Harbaugh lost the respect of the team, and their performance on the field reflected it.

jim harbaugh ex coach of san francisco 49ers 2015

Despite a 28-17 victory over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1, the 49ers looked horrible in their next two games, losing to the Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals. The Niners pulled off a mini winning streak to bring themselves to a 4-2 record, but that’s when things got bad:

Two more losses in a row put the Niners back at .500. The Niners then went on a sad three game winning streak in which they were barely able to pull out victories against the New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, and Washington Redskins—all of which finished with losing records. It was clear that something was wrong in San Fran, and the next four games made it clear. The 49ers dropped four games in a row against the Seattle Seahawks twice, the Oakland Raiders, and the San Diego Chargers.

49ers beat down dallas cowboys 2015 nfl

The 49ers finished 8-8, and they failed to make the playoffs for the first time under Harbaugh. Immediately after the season, Harbaugh and the 49ers parted way. The 49ers certainly have some pressing needs, and odds are they simply won’t be as good without Harbaugh on the sideline.

Jim Tomsula new head coach of san francisco 49ers disaster nfl 2015

The 49ers have had one of the deepest roster in the league over the past few seasons, but for the first time in a while they really need to make some moves in the draft to improve themselves. The best way to get young talent fast is the NFL Draft, so the Niners will need to make some big moves this season if they want to be good again in 2015. Here are the San Francisco 49ers biggest needs heading into the 2015 NFL Draft:

justin smith too old for 49ers nfl 2015 images

Defensive Lineman: Justin Smith is nearing the end of his career, Aldon Smith can’t stay out of trouble, and Ray McDonald has been cut for failing to stay out of trouble. The bottom line is the 49ers need pass rushers. Tank Carradine seems good enough to take one of their spots, but they will still need to find replacements for the others. A good defense starts with being able to pressure the quarterback, so it’s important that the Niners find someone fast. There are plenty of great guys in this year’s draft, so the 49ers should have no problem finding a replacement in the first round.

brandon lloyd back with san francisco 49ers nfl 2015

Wide Receiver: The 49ers really bolstered their receiving core heading into 2014, adding Brandon Lloyd, Stevie Johnson, and Bruce Ellington to Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin. Boldin is a monster, Crabtree is probably leaving in free agency, and the other three struggled this season. Colin Kaepernick needs literally all the help the team can possibly get for him, so the 49ers would be smart to turn to the draft for some young blood to put alongside Boldin. It will be interesting to see what the Niners do here, because Dorial Green-Beckham will more than likely be available for them first round. The Niners have a big decision to make as to whether they would like to improve their offseason or defense with their first round selection.

This week too, Camryn is once again doing the solo as she is being groomed to be the captain to take Kayla’.

While the moms are outside talking about who should be able to make it because the girls need to go in and kill it, they say to each other that newbies don’t need to be on the floor in Atlanta. Of course ZaTia’s mom doesn’t want to hear this and she stands by herself looking into the practice listening to them like, “Whatever!” ZaTia is obviously having trouble maybe because of the pressure but even her mom says that she is not doing her best. She knows that she can do better and has to because Diana wants the best of the best on the floor. In the end, ZaTia and two other girls are sent to “find her life” and to get off the floor. At this time Tawantza calls her to the door and tells her that she needs to try harder.

Camryn’s mom Meme pulls Tawantza over to the other parents and tells her that she needs to cool it because the girls are already under pressure and the big competition this week is already heated. Tawanda does not want to hear what she has to say. She tells Meme and the others to mind their business and worry about their own daughters. She doesn’t really care about the good of the whole squad and is working to secure ZaTia’s spot “with the big girls on the floor.”

kayla with dancing dolls on bring it!

I feel Tawantza on this but she has to understand that ZaTia is not the best right now and being the captain of the baby dolls doesn’t mean anything, obviously, because she is not keeping up with the rest of the team. I think she needs a reality check, which Meme was trying to give her in a nice way, but she didn’t want to hear it.

Meanwhile during the practice, Camryn is having trouble getting it together. She loses it and breaks down crying. Diana tells her the whole weight of the team is riding on her and now is not the time flake. She doesn’t think she can get it together in time so she actually pull out of the solo competition which Meme is not happy about.

Diana takes a break from the girls to spend some time with her husband and son. She realizes that she has not been giving her family the attention they need because she spends so much time at the Dollhouse. But she makes them dinner and they spend some quality time together. She talks to him about what’s going on with the girls. It is always refreshing to see this side of Diana. A much needed break from her cussing and yelling at the girls.

The day of the competition comes and it is apparent that the Dancing Dolls reputation precedes them. Every team talks about beating DD and that they are coming for them (even though the Purple Diamonds are the ones we focus on this week… again).

At the competition, even though her daughter is not performing, Tawantza shows up. Meme tells her to stay by her friend Selena because she is still burnt from how she responded to her when she tried to give her advice at practice. Tawantza says she’s not worried about and she’s not going to get into with Meme because she is a lady. Okay… yea I can see that.

When the solo captains go on, they look really good and it is apparent that Camryn was not ready to compete on that level but Meme did not want to hear that. She says that next time she’s going to put her daughter out there regardless. Um okay Meme… sure you are.

The competition that everyone is waiting for, stand battle, is next and the Dancing Dolls dance against, Love, Joy Diamonds, a feisty team from Atlanta. They don’t hold back and the white girl leading them is bad to the bone. Their routine, however, was not enough and the Dancing Dolls win that round.

The Purple Diamonds go against the Dancing Divas from Macon and guess what… they lose. The Purple Diamonds lose and so DD gets the chance to go against a new team that they have never seen. Diana was so impressed with them while they were dancing and in fact called them to win over the Purple Diamonds.

The competition proved to be super fierce. During the final round, both teams brought their A game but I have to say that the Dancing Dolls brought some moves that I haven’t seen before. To be truthful, I don’t think that the Dancing Divas were better than the Purple Diamonds and in my humble opinion, DD kills it against them in the last battle.

In the end, the Dancing Dolls win and it is no surprise because they really brought it this week.

Top 5 Free Agent Quarterbacks 2015

top five nfl free agent quarterbacks images 2015

This article would have been easier to write if it were only about the single best free agent QB available in 2015. One was hard enough to locate. I could have tried doing the top ten worst free agent quarterbacks, but that list would have been just as hard to do since ranking really really bad passers among other really really bad passers is not easy. The point is that unless your team has a defense that can hold the opposition to about 6 points a game, this year’s crop of free agent quarterbacks are not going to help you much.

Think I’m exaggerating, think again. Were you even aware that Jimmy Clausen still played professional football? Can you pronounce Scott Tolzien’s last name? Can you even remember where Jason Campbell played and starred at in college? That’s what I thought.

A team that is in need of starting over with their passing game better look to the draft. It would be better to take a risk on a rookie than to rehash some of the names in the free agency pot. Jameis Winston is an idiot of epic proportion. That much is clear. But he is worth a roll of the dice. Marcus Mariota may be just a product of Oregon’s fast paced scheme. That may end up being fact, but he is worthy of a shot, unlike many of these retread free agent quarterbacks that are available.

Without further trashing of the entire group of free agents who went on the market this week, let me dive into the top five free agents QBs.

jake locker washed up nfl free agent quarterbacks 2015

Jake Locker probably doesn’t belong as high as number five on this list. However, the fact that he retired and spared fans more misery watching him, gives him some extra points in my book. He is only 26 and decided to walk away. I give the guy credit. In this market full of washed up passers, he could have drawn a check welfare style for at least three more years.

matt hasselbeck free agent quarterback cleveland browns dont want nfl 2015

I couldn’t tell you the last time Matt Hasselbeck threw a meaningful pass in the NFL. He is Andrew Luck’s backup and has no shot of getting on the field unless a giant gasp of horror happens in Indy as their franchise QB goes down. That said, Hasselbeck is a capable passer and could win a big game if called upon. He is long past his prime, but will make $3 million dollars holding a clipboard this upcoming season as Indy re-signed him.

ryan mallett top free agent nfl quarterbacks 2015

Ryan Mallett comes in at number three based on potential alone. There was always the hope he the was a hidden gem while tucked away behind Brady in New England. He got his chances in Houston last year, but didn’t exactly shake up the world with his performances. He did enough to get re-signed by the Texans however. 2015 will be the year when we find out just what he has to offer. No more “potential” talk after this season.

brian hoyers top free quarterback agent 2015 nfl

Brian Hoyer was a decent quarterback for Cleveland last year. He got benched at the end of the year as they desperately tried to sneak into the playoffs with Johnny Manziel. That was more about politics than anything. The Browns coach didn’t believe J-Football was better than Hoyer, but was compelled by ownership to make the change behind center. Hoyer got a two year deal with Houston who played without much QB success last year. Well, he wound up signing with the Texans.

mark sanchez resigns with philadelphia eagles nfl 2015

Mark Sanchez is a capable QB. Sure, he had a very embarrassing butt fumble a couple years ago but since then he has manged to stay steady. Is he going to set any passing records? You know that answer already. What he can do is mange a game and not make the big mistakes that can cost a team dearly. As long as he isn’t asked to do too much, Sanchez was the best free agent available. He re-signed with Philadelphia for two years. The way his coach, Chip Kelly, is acting he better not get too comfortable though.

Most Overrated American League Baseball Players 2015

american league most overrated baseball players 2015

The excitement continues to build as opening day 2015 approaches. The sound of the ball hitting the mitt, the crack of the bat and all the stadium experiences has us ready for the 2015 Major League Season. This also gives us a chance to take a look at some of the most overrated players in the American League.

Now this list could include some highly over priced stars as well as a few player who might get to much credit based on their past accomplishments. The first area we like to focus on for this list is which players are making a ton of money that might get to much credit. Now we won’t put Alex Rodriguez on this list as no one really expects much out of him simply based on not playing for over a full season and he is 40 years old.

The next area we focused on is which player has slowly started to see his production drop but still might get put ahead of some more deserving players around the game. This doesn’t mean these players aren’t still great ball players but they might be on the decline but still get associated with their past success.

The last area we looked at is which players might be in the wrong position to succeed in 2015. This could be devastating for a player stat line as well as the success of a team. This could also be flipped and be positioned to better someone such as a pitcher he joins a team that plays in a stadium that is better associated with pitchers.

Here is our list of most overrated American League players in 2015.

josh hamilton angles most overrated american league baseball player 2015

Josh Hamilton, Los Angeles Angels: This has nothing to do with what happened this off-season and we don’t want you thinking we are taking a shot at him. We wish him the best and hope he can come back to the player he was just a few seasons back with the Texas Rangers.

That being said the guy did just sign a five-year deal worth over $100 million dollars to join the Angels just a few seasons back. That being said in his first full season with the club, Hamilton hit a career low .250 with his lowest home run totals since 2009. He also failed to hit the 80 rbi mark while his ops dropped to under .800 for the first time in three seasons.

Then Hamilton followed it up with an injury filled 2014 campaign that limited him to just 89 games. The lack of action dropped his season total to 10 home runs and 44 runs batted in. The alarming part he still managed to strikeout over 100 times in fewer games.

tigers justin verlander most overrated american league baseball players 2015

Justin Verlander, Detroit Tigers: Verlander gets the benefit of the doubt with many but we are still unsure we will ever see the pitcher from 2011. The Detroit Tigers ace lands on this list simply based on his production compared to having the second largest salary in 2015 at $28 million dollars. Yes you read that correctly $28 million dollars.

Now we don’t blame Verlander for taking the money as the league is built around paying players based on what they did in the past and not so much on what they will accomplish in the future.

When you look at the production he gave the Tigers in 2011 and 2012 picking up 41 wins to only 13 losses you kinda understand the salary. Then you look at his 28-24 record over the past two seasons with an increase of his earned run average to over 4.5 then you start to wonder if the 32 year old can bounce back.

jose reyes most overrated american league baseball players 2015

Jose Reyes, Toronto Blue Jays: While Reyes had a very productive season in 2014 for the Blue Jays but his alarming $22 million dollar contract makes anyone wonder why any team gave him this deal. Reyes has failed to play in 145 games in neither season with the Blue Jays. This is also not a knock on the Blue Jays who acquired the shortstop from the Marlins after they gave him this ridiculous deal before the 2012 season.

When you look at what Reyes is getting paid and compare him to a player such as J.J. Hardy for the Orioles who is making nearly nine million dollars less this upcoming season you ask your self is he that much better? Reyes has failed to hit .300 in each of the past three seasons, seen a decline in triples and a drop in stolen bases. His on base percentage also dropped to .328 the lowest since his third season in the bigs.

Pablo Sandoval most overrated american league baseball players red sox 2015

Pablo Sandoval, Boston Red Sox: One of the big off-season moves was the Red Sox adding Kung Fu Panda. That being said did you see that contract of five years $95 million they gave him? Sandoval is a solid ball player who should get paid but not that kind of money.

The Red Sox third baseman will be 29 this season and has failed to hit above .300 in four of his first six full seasons in the Majors. The former San Francisco Giants World Series hero has also failed to produce over a .800 ops in each of the previous three seasons.

Along with these measures, Sandoval has only hit over 20 home runs in two seasons including finishing with only 16 home runs last season. The stats continue to show that Sandoval might be one of the most overrated players in the game based on contract as he has also failed to reach the 100 run batted in mark in any season since coming to the majors.

Yes we know he has some post-season success but to be paid as the 37th highest player in the game is a little crazy.
