UPDATE: 5/23/2017 We are so happy to report that Mrs. Tyler has found a wonderful new home. Once again North Shore Animal League America has been able to place yet another great rescue animal with a loving home.
Check out our Adopt Me/Rescue Me section for other pets that haven’t found a home yet and learn how NSALA helped rescue 16 dogs from the Yulin Dog Meat Trade Festival in China.
We are happy to be back with our weekly “Adopt Me” feature. Once again, we are shining a light on a deserving pet who is anxiously waiting to find their forever home. As many of you know, Movie TV Tech Geeks have been teaming up with the reputable North Shore Animal League America to raise awareness for pet adoption. By featuring an adoptable cat or dog every week, we have been able to help find homes for countless animals and shine a light on the many animals that are in need
Even if you don’t live in the area, you can still contact North Shore Animal League and they can guide you to the closest no-kill rescue shelter in your area for a similar dog or even arrange travel arrangements. If you have a friend you think would be interested, pass these articles on as we are working even harder this year to get even more pets adopted than last year.
North Shore Animal League America, which is the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization. Since 1944, the organization has strived towards achieving its ultimate vision: “To put an end to animal cruelty and euthanasia and to create a world in which all companion animals find compassionate permanent homes.”
To date, North Shore has helped find homes for over 1,000,000 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. With their main headquarters in Port Washington, New York, North Shore provides crucial resources such as a pet adoption center, a pet health center that offers affordable veterinary care and much more
Now…time to introduce this week’s featured pet…Mrs. Tyler!
Mrs. Tyler is an adorable, 10-year-old purebred Maltese. She has a soft, curly white/brown coat of fur and a heartwarming little smile. Fortunately, Mrs. Tyler was lucky enough to be given a second chance by North Shore’s partners at National Mill Dog Rescue after she was found in unsuitable living conditions back in April.
Generally, Malteses are small, hardy dogs with a fluffy coat of fur. They have low-set ears and large, curious looking eyes. Although their fur can grow to be rather long, most owners opt to keep it groomed and relatively short.
In terms of personality, Maltese have long been recognized as great companion animals. They are very affectionate and loyal pets, but can get intimidated by other animals – especially if they are notably larger. With that being said, Mrs. Tyler is a notably calm, kind-hearted dog and will likely be just as happy living in a home that already has other small dogs living in it.
Due to their small stature, Malteses can thrive in smaller homes, including apartments and are usually able to expend most of their energy while playing around inside. However, they do need some play time outdoors on a regular basis as well.
Now that Mrs. Tyler is with her friends at North Shore, she is learning some basic commands and behaviors that she was unfortunately deprived from learning back at the puppy mill. Currently, she is working towards sharpening her on-leash walking skills, as well as embracing the love and affection of her two-legged pals.
Rosie Tombolo, the Kennel Manager at North Shore Animal League America notes, “Mrs. Tyler will thrive in a quiet home with another social dog she can follow and learn from as she adjusts to her new home environment.”
Moreover, North Shore is hoping to find a patient and loving family to give Mrs. Tyler the love she deserves. Based on her relatively timid personality, the staff at North Shore recommends that she go to a home with children (if any) 16 years of age or older. With plenty of love and joy to spread, Mrs. Tyler will make the perfect addition to any warm and welcoming home.
