UPDATE: 11/14/2016

Zoey has found a great home just in time for the holidays. She’s going to have an amazing holiday season, but don’t despair, there are still plenty of great rescue pets available in our Rescue Me section.

Another week, another furry friend looking for their forever home! Once again, with the help of our friends at North Shore Animal League America, we are happy to feature a four-legged companion who is anxiously waiting to be adopted. With North Shore Animal League America’s support, we have been able to help find homes for countless animals throughout the duration of our partnership. Every week we here at Movie TV Tech Geeks shine a light on an adoptable pet – cat or dog – in hopes of finding them the family they deserve.

North Shore Animal League America is the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization. For over 70 years, North Shore has been rescuing animals and advocating their proper care. Since opening in 1944, the organization has saved the lives of over 1,000,000 cats, dogs, kittens and puppies.

The shelter is located in Port Washington, New York, where it facilitates animal rescue and adoptions, as well as plays a lead role in the no-kill movement. North Shore Animal League America continues to innovate better and more sustainable ways to care for pets, in order to create a brighter future for animals everywhere.

With their vision, “To put an end to animal cruelty and euthanasia and to create a world in which all companion animals find compassionate, permanent homes.” North Shore Animal League America continues to make a positive difference in the lives of countless animals.

Please help us give a warm welcome to…Zoey!

At three years of age, Zoey is a domestic shorthaired tabby cat. She has precious green-yellow eyes with brown and black striped markings, as well as a white patch on her snout and upper chest. Fortunately, North Shore was able to rescue Zoey from a municipal shelter in West Virginia. She is an incredibly friendly, laid back kitty, who loves treats and cuddling up on a nice warm lap.

Like most of her cat counterparts, Zoey can undoubtedly help mature children learn responsibility, value for life, socialization and help build their self-esteem. She can also provide ample companionship to adults and seniors and improve their feelings of self-worth. Taking care of her can also help provide a sense of purpose for her owners.

It has been said that pet owners smile more, laugh more and form special friendships with other animal owners and lovers. Zoey will surely bring these improvements to her new owners’ lives and help them lead a more joyful life.

Cats are extremely versatile and adaptable animals, making them the perfect pet option for almost every household. As mainly independent animals, cats are often low maintenance and are perfect for those who live an active and busy lifestyle who may not be able to take on the responsibility that is associated with owning a dog.

Kristen Dudick, the Team Leader at North Shore Animal League America notes, “Zoey is a beautiful tabby who meows for attention. She likes to be petted and purrs thankfully. Zoey would make a great companion for any cat lover!”

Moreover, North Shore believes that Zoey is well suited for pretty much any household environment. She gets along with both humans and her fellow four-legged friends. Therefore, she would happily join a family who already has a pet wandering around. Zoey can be playful, but she also is very even-tempered, making her the perfect addition to nearly any home. Zoey has plenty of love, cuddles and purrs to share with the family who opens up their home, and their hearts, to her.

Meet Mahoney, NSALAs latest rescue dog ready for a good home 2016 images

At just 8 months old, Mahoney is a Shar-Pei/Cattle dog mix. He was fortunate enough to be rescued by North Shore Animal League America from a municipal shelter in Arkansas. Although he is still very young, he has already shown to be a bright pup. In fact, he already responds to basic commands and performs even better when treats are involved.

The Shar-Pei breed is known for being loyal to their handlers. They love to spend their time running, walking, playing, or even just hanging out on the sofa for the day with the ones they love. However, while they may be notably loyal when it comes to their family, Shar-Peis still [generally] maintain a friendly demeanor when meeting new people/animals.

In terms of caring for a Shar-Pei, they are noted as one of the easier dog breeds to physically maintain. They have short fur that needs very minimal brushing and washing. Mahoney’s other breed, Cattle dog, is also known for being low maintenance when it comes to grooming and physical upkeep.

As demonstrated by Mahoney’s ability to perform basic commands at such a young age, Shar-Peis are highly trainable. Most owners of the breed say that it takes very little time to get them housebroken.

Since Mahoney is still considered to be a puppy, he definitely expends a youthful energy. Around the North Shore shelter he is always wandering about with his tail wagging and a big smile on his face.

Rosie Tombolo, the Kennel Manager at North Shore Animal League America notes, “Mahoney’s tail never stops wagging. He has such a happy disposition and loves getting belly rubs, treats and hugs from his two-legged friends.”

North Shore is looking for a family who has the time to work with Mahoney, teaching him how to behave as he matures into a full-grown dog. Since he is rather rambunctious, the family would need to have some patience and be able to provide the leadership that Mahoney needs. The staff at North Shore believes that Mahoney would do best in a home with children (if any) who are over the age of 12. In addition, they also believe that he would be okay with having another four-legged playmate in his family. It is suggested that any interested adopters who currently have dog(s) bring them in, as it is best to ensure that Mahoney meshes well with his potential future four-legged roommates.

Moreover, Mahoney has an infectious joy that will bring plenty of happiness and light into any [suitable] family that opens their doors and hearts to him.

If you are interested in adopting Mahoney, please e-mail Rachael Rudman at RachaelR@animalleague.org.

Once again, meet…

leeza rescue cat 2016

Leeza

Our latest feature, Leeza, is an adorable 1-year-old domestic shorthaired Tabby cat. She was rescued by North Shore from the New York Tri-State Area alongside a whole litter of kittens, however, she is the last of the bunch to still be looking for a home. While Leeza is a fairly shy kitty at first, she warms up to people quickly once she gets to know them and she becomes comfortable with her surroundings.

If you are interested in adopting Leeza, please contact Dorit at DoritS@animalleague.org.
