UPDATE:
10/23/2015: Whispie has been adopted!
Another week has gone by, which means that we once again have another adoptable pet to feature. Our adoptable pet of the week is facilitated through our teaming up with North Shore Animal League America.
North Shore Animal League America is the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization. For over 70 years, North Shore has been rescuing animals and advocating their proper care. Since opening in 1944, the organization has saved the lives of over 1,000,000 cats, dogs, kittens and puppies.
The shelter is located in Port Washington, New York, where it facilitates animal rescue and adoptions, as well as plays a lead role in the no-kill movement. North Shore Animal League America continues to innovate better and more sustainable ways to care for pets, in order to create a brighter future for animals everywhere.
With their vision, “To put an end to animal cruelty and euthanasia and to create a world in which all companion animals find compassionate permanent homes.” North Shore Animal League America continues to make a positive difference in the lives of countless animals.
In a slight change of pace, the adoptable animal featured this week is Whispie the cat!
Whispie is a stunning, young tortoiseshell cat, with bright green eyes. She was rescued from the New York Tri-State area and is patiently waiting at North Shore for a new home.
Those who have interacted with her at the North Shore shelter note that she shares many personality traits to that of a dog. This is shown in her love of licking people’s hands and giving plenty of kisses. She adores being cuddled up on a lap, but also can be very playful and can be seen running around and chasing after her favorite toys.
Her affectionate personality is further demonstrated in the adorable purring sound she lets out when she is picked up and when she is curled up cuddling. Thus, Whispie is the perfect warm and loving addition to your family as we enter the cold, dark winter season.
The Shelter director of North Shore Animal League America, Christina Travalja, notes, “Sometimes cats like Whispie are misunderstood and don’t get the credit they deserve. However, there are quite a few benefits to adopting a cat. Some of which include companionship, entertainment, life-lessons as well as both mental and physical improvements such as reducing stress, high blood pressure and even help cope with anxiety.”
With her mix of calm and playful personality, Whispie is an ideal friend for people of all ages. She can help children learn responsibility, value for life, socialization and help build their self-esteem. Meanwhile, she can also provide ample companionship to adults and seniors and improve their feelings of self-worth. Taking care of her can also help provide a sense of purpose for her owners.
It has been said that pet owners smile more, laugh more and form special friendships with other animal owners and lovers. Undoubtedly, Whispie will bring these improvements to her new owners’ lives and help them lead a more joyful life.
Cats are extremely versatile and adaptable animals, making them the perfect pet option for almost every household. As mainly independent animals, cats are often low maintenance and are perfect for those who live an active and busy lifestyle who may not be able to take on the responsibility that is associated with owning a dog.
Being an adult cat, Whispie is well behaved and has already been litter-boxed trained. Therefore, her new family will be able to have the flexibility of leaving her home alone when they are out for short periods of time (i.e. work, errands, etc.). Whispie is relatively self-sufficient and therefore, does not require the daily walks that most dogs would need.
North Shore Animal League America notes that Whispie, like many of their cats available for adoption, is a perfect addition to a variety of households and family dynamics. Whispie is ready to find her new home and share her endless amounts of affection with her new family.
