UPDATE: Great news! Rubi has found a wonderful new home. It had been a few weeks since we featured this wonderful Pitbull/Terrior and Boxer mix. We have a special place in our hearts for Pitbull’s as many animal organizations have helped perpetuate a bad rap for these wonderful breeds.
Like with most pets, it’s how they are raised that determines how they turn out, not solely based on a specific breed.
In February, people all around the world celebrate their love and appreciation for one another in the form of Valentine’s Day. While it is important to celebrate this holiday with your two-legged friends and family, it is also the perfect time to open up your heart to a deserving four-legged friend. Fortunately, just in time for Valentine’s Day, we are back with our latest featured adoptable pet of the week. Thanks to our friends at North Shore Animal League America, we continue to help find homes for countless pets – both dogs and cats.
North Shore Animal League America is the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization. For over 70 years, North Shore has been rescuing animals and advocating their proper care. Since opening in 1944, the organization has saved the lives of over 1,000,000 cats, dogs, kittens and puppies.
The shelter is located in Port Washington, New York, where it facilitates animal rescue and adoptions, as well as plays a lead role in the no-kill movement. North Shore Animal League America continues to innovate better and more sustainable ways to care for pets, in order to create a brighter future for animals everywhere.
Even if you don’t live in the area, you can still contact North Shore Animal League, and they can guide you to the closest no-kill rescue shelter in your area for a similar dog or even arrange travel arrangements. If you have a friend you think would be interested, pass these articles on as we hope to continue to find loving, suitable homes for even more pets.
With their vision, “To put an end to animal cruelty and euthanasia and to create a world in which all companion animals find compassionate, permanent homes.” North Shore Animal League America continues to make a positive difference in the lives of countless animals.
Now…time to introduce the star of this week…Rubi!
Rubi is an adorable, 2-year-old American Pitbull Terrier/Boxer mix. She is a mid-sized dog, with a light brown/orange and white coat of fur. Fortunately, North Shore’s staff was able to give Rubi the opportunity to find the loving home she deserves by rescuing her from unsuitable living conditions in Tennessee. Shown through her heart-warming smile, Rubi is an incredibly friendly dog and loves to meet new people. She is also very well behaved. Rubi has been trained to walk on a leash, and she is also housebroken, which means she knows to do her business outside.
Like most Pitbulls, Rubi has a big heart and will make a great addition to any suitable home. This is why it is important that people read up on the Pitbull breed, as there is (unfortunately) a lot of misleading and/or inaccurate information out there about them. If you haven’t already, check out our previous Fact v. Fiction article on Pitbulls, which dispels some of the myths surrounding the breed, as well as outlines some of their amazing characteristics.
Stemming from her various roots, it is not surprising that Rubi has an infectious spirit and lively energy. From her Boxer side, Rubi has shown to be an intelligent pup, who is both loyal and alert. Boxers have become known for their tendency to form very strong bonds with their owners, which Rubi will inevitably do once she has found her perfect, forever home.
Rosie Tombolo, the Kennel Manager at North Shore Animal League America notes, “Rubi enjoys playtime outside of the home with respectful, similar sized dogs!”
Based on Rubi’s active spirit and innate strength, the staff at North Shore recommends that she go to a home with children (if any) who are over the age of 12. While she gets along with other (respectful) dogs, Rubi would do best in a home where she is the only dog around. Since she is looking to form a lifelong bond with her new family, she wants to be the center of attention (in terms of four-legged family members)!
A sweet girl on the inside and an adorable pup on the out, Rubi is ready to start the next chapter of her life. With her big heart, Rubi will surely bring plenty of love, joy and laughter to her forever home.
If you have previous dog experience and are currently looking for a new canine companion, Rubi is for you! If you are interested in adopting Rubi, please e-mail RachaelR@animalleague.org.
