Nosey was able to get her cute nose into the hearts of a wonderful family.

For most animal lovers, it is admittedly hard to think about all of the loving pets out there that are waiting in shelters for someone to welcome them into their home. Unfortunately, this is a reality, but together we can make a difference by raising awareness for all of the incredibly deserving animals currently in rescue shelters. Here at Movie TV Tech Geeks, we do our part by featuring a weekly adoptable pet article facilitated by our friends over at North Shore Animal League America.

As many of our readers know, we have been teaming up with North Shore Animal League America for the past year to help raise awareness for pet adoption. Every week we feature an adoptable pet – cat or dog – in hopes of helping them find their forever home.

Even if you don’t live in the area, you can still contact North Shore Animal League, and they can guide you to the closest no-kill rescue shelter in your area for a similar dog or even arrange travel arrangements. If you have a friend you think would be interested, pass these articles on as we are working even harder this year to get even more pets adopted than last year.

North Shore Animal League America is the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization. For over 70 years, North Shore has been rescuing animals and advocating their proper care. Since opening in 1944, the organization has saved the lives of over 1,000,000 cats, dogs, kittens and puppies.

The shelter is located in Port Washington, New York, where it facilitates animal rescue and adoptions, as well as plays a lead role in the no-kill movement. North Shore Animal League America continues to innovate better and more sustainable ways to care for pets, in order to create a brighter future for animals everywhere.

With their vision, “To put an end to animal cruelty and euthanasia and to create a world in which all companion animals find compassionate permanent homes.” North Shore Animal League America continues to make a positive difference in the lives of countless animals.

Now…time to introduce Nosey!

Nosey is a 2-year-old, black and white domestic shorthaired cat. Rescued from a municipal shelter in upstate New York, Nosey is anxiously waiting at North Shore’s adoption center for someone to give him a permanent place to call home. Although he was rather shy when he first arrived at North Shore, he soon warmed up with the help of some treats and patience.

It has been said that pet owners smile more, laugh more and form special friendships with other animal owners and lovers. Nosey will surely bring such improvements to his new owners’ lives.

Cats are extremely versatile and adaptable animals, making them the perfect pet option for almost every household. As mainly independent animals, cats are often low maintenance and are perfect for those who live an active and busy lifestyle who may not be able to take on the responsibility that is associated with owning a dog.

Dori Shani, the Feline Behaviorist at North Shore Animal League America notes, “When Nosey is in his cage, he curls up on his fluffy bed and chirps for affection. He will head-butt your hand for some pets and rub against your legs as you walk past.”

During his time at North Shore, Nosey has continuously demonstrated his loving and affectionate personality. His warm demeanor makes him the perfect addition to any suitable home – although North Shore’s staff recommends that he go to a family with children who are at least 7 years of age. In addition, the staff also notes that Nosey is often found lounging in the communal lounge with his feline friends and thus, would do well in a home with other kitties to hang out with.

Moreover, with his curious green eyes and black-and-white spotted face, Nosey will have you instantly falling in love. He is the perfect cuddle companion and is more than ready to form a bond with his new family that will last a lifetime!

STILL SEARCHING FOR A GREAT HOME

CASSIDY

Fortunately rescued by North Shore from the mid-west, Cassidy is a three-year-old Terrier and Schnauzer mix. She is a smaller dog with soft white and light brown hair and an adorable look that will have you falling in love instantly. Although she is a bit shy and timid at first, she is quick to warm up and show affection to those that earn her trust.

Terriers are known for being a relatively small breed although there are different variations. They were first bred and trained to hunt rodents and vermin. Therefore, the breed is known for being active and high-energy. The name terrier is actually in reference to the Latin word “terra” meaning Earth, and it signifies their love of digging which was once useful for finding prey such as moles and badgers.

Due to their trained hunting past, Terriers are also notably intelligent and are quite responsive to training. They are often very single-minded, meaning that they become very concentrated at the task at hand, whether that be playing fetch or hunting prey. During the time that Cassidy has been at North Shore’s campus, her adaptability has been thoroughly demonstrated through her ability to learn how to walk on a leash, as well as do her business outside. In addition, her particular breed is also known for being territorial. They are often protective of their homes and loved ones, thus, can form very strong bonds with their owners.

Rosie Tombolo, the Kennel Manager at North Shore Animal League America notes, “During Cassidy’s time here at North Shore Animal League America, our medical and behavioral staff have worked with her to teach her how to walk on a leash and how to use the bathroom outside. She is a smart dog with so much love to give.”

The staff at North Shore also wants future potential owner(s) of Cassidy to be aware that she does have a heart murmur. This is a medical condition that requires her to be seen by a vet twice a year to listen to and view her heart through an echocardiogram. Other than this condition, Cassidy is in great health and has plenty of joy-filled years to share with her future family.

Lastly, it is recommended that Cassidy go to a home with children at least 12 years of age, as she is a relatively timid little pup. Nonetheless, Cassidy is yet another incredibly caring and deserving dog that will bring plenty of love and laughter into any home she is welcomed into.
